If you steal info from this FAQ and post it on other sites (i.e. Speedfreak on cmgsccc.com) IT IS ILLEGAL. Also, that you everybody for the emails. I'm glad you like what I've done. -------------------- ################## Table of Contents: ################## I. Introduction / Updates II. Characters III. Gameplay IV. Items / Weapons V. Areas / Dungeons VI. Secrets / Hints / Codes VII. FAQ's VIII. Copywrite / Other Info ################ I. Introduction: ################ This is a "quick and dirty" FAQ for Dark Cloud for PS2. There won't be too much info for the dungeons, but enough to get you by without any spoilers. This FAQ is for your own personal use (i.e. read it, learn from it, don't profit from it). If you wish to add this FAQ to your site, please see the information located at the bottom of this FAQ. ############### II. Characters: ############### Toan- Main character of the game. The only character with the ability to open the ATLA (see dungeons section). He uses sword type weapons. Fluffy doughnut upgrades his defense. Xiao- Second character in the game, found in Norune Village. Has the ability to jump gaps in the dungeons. She uses slingshot weapons. Fish crackers raise her defense. Goro- Third character, found in the forest. He primarily uses club type weapons. Use this weapon to hit switches to open some doors in the dungeons. Ruby- Fourth character, aquired in Queens. Her weapons are rings which shoot magic balls. She can open doors which have a crystal pillar nest to them. Unaga- Fifth character, will join your party mid way through the Sun and Moon Temple. His weapons consist of spears and staffs. He can clear the "black wind" that blocks some doorways. Osmond- The final playable character. He uses guns as his weapon of choice. He can fly over gaps in the dungeon floors. ############## III. Gameplay: ############## The gameplay may seem complicated at first, but you will get the hang of it and have a good time. The gameplay consists of two primary modes, the dungeons and the world. World: This is where you place the Atla that you find in the Dungeons. Building placements are in realtime (i.e. you place it there, it will be there for you to walk around). As you complete the town, tressure chests will begin to appear containing valuable powerups. Sometimes it is required to complete part of the town to go farther in the dungeons. Dungeon: Each floor of the dungeon is created randomly every time. At the start of the dungeon, there will be a chart showing the levels you have accessed and the Atla left to obtain. You must obtain a special "key" to move on to the next level. This is always dropped by an enemy, so you will most likely have to kill all the monsters on each floor before proceeding. After completing each level, always select to return outside and save your game (this is tedious but worthwhile). You can go back to any level you have already been to. There are some other factors to also consider while playing the game. First of all is that your weapon can break (<-Yes). Always carry several repair powders and always be aware of your weapons Whp status. You don't want to lose a weapon you've been working on for quite a while. There is also a thirst meter on your character that drains as time passes. If the thirst meter becomes empty, you will slowly lose HP unti you die. You can recover your thirst by carrying water or by standing in a pool in the dungeon. Every once in a while you will be challenged to a duel. These are pretty simple. A series of button presses with come across the bottom of the screen. Just hit them in order when they cross the white line. You don't have to be exact with the timing, and you can try over as many times as you would like. If you ever get stuck, just do the following: Check to see if you have all the available Atla. Try to combine them to finish as much of the town as possible. Talk to everybody and ask how to fix their house. Doing this will solve 99.9% of your problems GUARANTEED. ##################### IV. Items /Weapons: ##################### Below I have listed the various weapons for each character and what the possible evolutions for each one are. Some weapons have multiple evolutions, so decide what final weapon you want first. All weapons (besides starting ones) will evolve into one of the ultimate weapons for each character. By the way there are more evolutions out there. These are only the evolutions I have personally discovered. Areas / Dungeons: ####################### There are several towns and areas in the game to explore and chat with locals. Come back to these locations after placing the Atla to look for treasure chests and special events. Here is a breakdown of the dungeons in the game. The number next to the level indicates the number of Atla located on the floor. Floors with 0 Atla usually contain either a special event or a Limited Zone. ---------------------------------------- Divine Beast Cave: 1: 8 2: 8 3: 6 4: 0 5: 5 6: 7 7: 8 8: 1 9: 8 10: 8 11: 0 12: 8 13: 8 14: 6 15: BOSS (STRATEGY: Use Xiao to shoot the beast while it is flying, then use Toan while it is on the ground) ---------------------------------------- Wise Owl Forest: 1: 8 2: 8 3: 7 4: 0 5: 8 6: 8 7: 8 8: 7 9: 0 10: 6 11: 5 12: 0 13: 8 14: 6 15: 8 16: 7 17: Boss (STRATEGY: Use Goro to smash the feet of the monkey. When the monkey is holding his foot, use either Toan or Goro to deliver another blow.) ---------------------------------------- Shipwreck: 1: 7 2: 8 3: 6 4: 4 5: 0 6: 8 7: 4 8: 5 9: 0 10: 4 11: 3 12: 0 13: 3 14: 6 15: 4 16: 4 17: 8 18: Boss (STRATEGY: While the forcefield is up, use any PHYSICAL attack on the queen. When the shield falls, use Ruby's fire spell to attack.) ---------------------------------------- Sun and Moon Temple: 1: 4 2: 8 3: 4 4: 2 5: 0 6: 4 7: 8 8: 3 9: 0 10: 4 11: 8 12: 5 13: 0 14: 3 15: 8 16: 4 17: 2 18: Boss (STRATEGY: Use Unaga to disperse the dark cloud, then attach with Toan.) ---------------------------------------- Moon Sea: 1: 6 2: 4 3: 4 4: 0 5: 7 6: 3 7: 5 8: 0 9: 5 10: 5 11: 0 12: 6 13: 6 14: 5 15: Boss (STRATEGY: Move behind and hit the legs.) ---------------------------------------- Gallery of Time: 1: 4 2: 3 3: 3 4: 3 5: 2 6: 2 7: 4 8: 4 9: 3 10: 3 11: 3 12: 3 13: 3 14: 3 15: 3 16: 3 17: 4 18: 4 19: 0 20: 0 21: 0 22: 0 23: 0 24: 5 25: Boss (STRATEGY: Phase 1: Run until you see the hand pop out of the ground, then hit it. Phase 2: Use stamina to protect from the wind, then use a projectile to attack. Phase 3: RUN. Hit it on the head when it's open.) I HIGHLY suggest you build up your weapons for the final boss for Toan and Ruby. ---------------------------------------- Demon Shaft: Levels 1-99: There are no ATLA or limited zones. Every level is difficult if you have weak weapons, but a good place to build up to your characters ultimate. Level 100: Final Boss. Piece of cake, no explination necessary. You get the Chronicle 2 sword for completing the Demon Shaft. TIP: Use a strong character to do most of the damage, then switch to a weak weapon/character to finish the enemy off. This will give your weak weapon tons of ABS. ############################## VI. Secrets / Hints / Codes: ############################## There are currently several Gameshark codes located on their main site, www.gameshark.com. Return to every town periodically. Tresure chests will be left inside and outside of buildings every once in a while and contain very usefull items necessary in completing your quest. I have discovered a gameshark code by accident that gives Toan MAX ABSORBED for his first weapon. This means UNLIMITED upgrades. 1D5C5D95 F5734488 This will only work for a weapon in slot one for Toan. Go to the item menu and switch the weapons around to upgrade another. This code was created by myself, so don't take credit for it. Take the time before the final boss fight to build your weapons. You can buy all the upgrade items you need from the guy in the gallery of time. The boss is very difficult and you need all the help you can get :). ########### VII. FAQ's: ########### I added this section because of all the email I get (which I really appreciate). If you have more questions, please feel free to ask. Q. What characters should I work on the most? A. Toan will be your main character. I would also work on Ruby for the final boss. Work on Osmond in the Demon Shaft, he will be very helpfull there. Q. Where is the fishing rod? A. Finish as much of the town as possible. An event will occur at one of the finished houses in which you will receive the fishing rod. Q. Are powerups for defence and health random? A. As far as I can tell, yes. So you perfectionists may get pissed when you can't max all your characters. I know it made me mad. Q. Where is the Serpent Sword? A. Try to complete as much of the town as possible. An event will occur at one of the finished houses. Go there and you will be given the Serpent Sword. You must have this equipped to beat the snake. Q. How do I open the music box in the Shipwreck? A. You need to complete the fortune tellers house. Talk to her and have her read your fortune. After the first time, a third option will open up the next time you talk to her. Go to this one and she will show you where the key is. Q. How do I open doors with Ruby? A. Use R2 to go into a first person viewpoint. Shoot directly at the gem by the door. Each gem has a different color for each element. If the door doesn't open, change the elemental attribute on Ruby's weapon and try again until it opens. Q. How do I clear the black fog blocking the doorway? A. Use Ubanaga. If you hold down the attack button, he will spin his weapon. This will create a wirlwind that will disperse the black fog. Do the same thing on the boss of the level. Q. How do I build the robot in Yellow Drops? A. Start by putting his head in the middle and top of the screen. Each part is labeled L or R for left and right. Just imagine if you were laying in the robots place, which would be your left and right side. The shoulders seem to be the tricky part. The beak of the eagle will point straight up and the eyes will face outward. As you place parts, spots will fill in to complete the joints. This is how you know if you did it correctly. Take a look at the picture of the robot in the instruction booklet if you need a picture. Q. How do I get the Demon Shaft? A. Just finish the game. At the end of the credits it will tell you a new spot has been opened on your map. You will be given the option to save, so do it. When you start up again there will be a new map location slightly west of the Gallery of Time. This is the Demon Shaft. ############################## VIII.
