I've decided to write this based on the lack of guides listed on www.gamefaqs.com for this rather large game. All information listed in this guide was uncovered by myself, or otherwise directly noted to the contrary. I'll attempt to guide you through the adventures of Max and Monica. I'm placing "Sub Guides" throughout this FAQ, in a specific order. If you follow this FAQ directly from start to finish, these Sub Guides will help you tremendously, as they show information that is usually key in that part of the game. If you only accessed this FAQ in order to get hints on a certain topic, use the "Find" option located in your browser's toolbar. You can also use CTRL+F to access the Find option quickly. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- B: Legal Banter ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dark Cloud 2 is a trademark of Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. © 2003 Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. The whole "Don't email me if you're going to.. blah blah". My only rule as far as sending me email is this - Please be respectful, and use common sense. Remember that I only wrote this to help people as best I can. If there's something incorrect in my guide, you're more than welcome to email me and point it out. If there's a misspelling, email me about that too. I'll even put you in the credits of this guide for your contribution. If you email me a question that is covered in this guide, I will not reply. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- D: Game Introduction ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The introduction to Dark Cloud 2 if extremely drawn out. Sit back, and enjoy the near half hour it will take you to advance past it. The first thing you will do when you begin a new game of Dark Cloud 2 will be picking out Max's outfit. How thrilling. Select whatever ensemble you wish, and advance. Next up, you will meet Monica. Her little intro scene will teach you the bare essentials of battling. Follow the on screen instructions, and defeat your enemies. Following Monica's cinematics, the game shifts back to Max. You will soon find yourself looking to finish fixing a vacuum cleaner, so you can go to a carnival. You will also meet Cedric for the first time. Head down the stairs to the first save point. An exclamation point will appear over Max's head, indicating an event. Get used to this happening, as it will happen probably a million more times throughout this game. It's a good way to tell when you can inspect something. At any rate, save your game, and continue down the stairs. Along the far side wall, you will see a work bench. Approach it, and another exclamation point will appear. This is the vacuum you need to fix to complete your work. Upon inspecting, Max will say that you need a certain tool located "in that cabinet in the back". Continue through the tool shop, and go down to Cedric's bedroom. You will find a notebook on the table there, grab it. Proceed to the cabinet in the bedroom, and pick up your trusty Wrench. This will be your means of defending yourself in the game. Head back over to the work bench at this time. Inspect the vacuum, and select "OK! Time to start fixing it!" to advance the story. If, for some odd reason, you want to look around more before continuing, select the 2nd option. Max will fix the vacuum, and talk about the damned thing like its gods gift to man. Next. You will now meet Flotsam. A crazy ass clown dude babbling about his carnival. After that short scene, it will switch back to Max. He's fallen asleep! Oh no! His alarm clock didn't go off! He then runs out the shop, and notes that Cedric is gone. You now take control of Max again, outside the carnival tent. Notice the save point to the right of the tent entrance. Hint hint. When you're ready to advance the story, talk to the goofy clown standing opposite the save point. You need a ticket to enter! What to do.. what to do.. Now you'll learn how to press the Square button to trigger certain events. Hit the Square button next to the clown, and find the carnival ticket in your inventory. Select it. Yay, carnival time! Er.. damn. Some little punk steals your ticket right out of your hand and runs away. Time to chase his ass down. No, you can't kill him, sorry. Anyways, run counter-clockwise around the area, and talk to everyone you come across. Max will ask if they've seen a little red haired boy recently. Continue to follow the peoples directions until you find him. Max will wrestle the kid to the ground, and they'll exchange some rather dry dialogue. Max will find it in his heart to give the boy his ticket. Things will start to get freaky, and the little boy will tell you that you "passed the test", whatever that means. He vanishes without a trace and leaves your ticket behind. Max picks it up, and you regain control over him. Save the game if you wish, and give the clown your ticket for a second time. Max will now enter the carnival, and another cut scene will occur. A LONG cut scene. Max will eventually eavesdrop on the Mayor of Palm Brinks, and Flotsam the queer clown. The clown talks about some magic stone with the mayor. The clown beats down the mayor. Eventually, Max idiotically knocks something over, and Flotsam takes note of his presence. Flotsam sends his gaggle of goons after Max, and his mysterious stone. Following the cut scene, you will have to fight off 4 clowns. Wrench in hand, you gotta button mash them to their doom. Don't forget to evade (Away + X), and block (R1), when the going gets tough. After battle, his wrench becomes a "Battle Wrench". Max will now get chased out of the carnival by a few more clowns, as well as Flotsam, and his dumb looking clown machine. Max will run away, and run away some more. Don't worry about dying or anything, this is all automated. Floatsam will end up confronting Max on a rooftop, and demand the stone. Max will run away, yet again, and end up going down a sewer with his friend Donny. Roll credits! Sadly, it's unskippable.. Sigh.. Next up, Max and Donny will talk about what happened. You will also see the game's first dungeon, The Underground Channel. Following the dialogue, the game will tell you that to continue on, you gotta talk to Donny. But first, go save. Go talk to Donny and advance the story now. He will ask you what you plan on doing next. Select the 2nd option to advance. Max will now embark on his journey, to uncover what's going on in the outside world. Donny will eventually give max 2 things, a "Classic Gun" and a "Help Receiver". Max will then advance to the dungeon. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- E: Chapter 1 - To The Outside World ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This chapter begins at the dungeon screen. Get familiar with this screen, you'll be seeing it many, many times. Triangle saves your game, and square exits the dungeon. When you press X on a specific dungeon floor, it will display information about it. Cue my first sub-guide! ----------------------------------- Sub-A: Floor Info, Goals, and Seals ----------------------------------- Before you enter any dungeon floor, a screen displaying information about that specific floor will pop up. It will look somewhat like the following ASCII sketch*: _________________________________________________________________ / Floor Info \ |-----------------------------------------------------------------| | To The Outside World | |-----------------------------------------------------------------| |O Time Limit To Defeat All Monsters: 02:35| |O ??? ???| |O Clear All Without Healing: Not Cleared| | Total Monsters Defeated 0| |-----------------------------------------------------------------| \_________________________________________________________________/ *This is the Floor Info screen from the game's first level. What this nifty little screen shows you are 3 main goals that you must complete in order to receive a "Medal". Medals are used later in the game to purchase new costumes, and other special things for your characters. Each goal you complete will result in you gaining 1 more medal. It is possible to gain 3 medals from completing all the goals on this specific floor, for example. This screen also shows you the total number of monsters that you've defeated on the particular floor. I don't think that the total number of monsters defeated ever comes into play later in the game, and is just there for show. Ok, onto "Seals". A seal is something that will almost randomly be placed on a dungeon floor. A seal will make it more difficult for you to beat the floor by forcing you to use only 1 character, or by disabling healing items. These seals can be broken by wiping out every monster in the level, or by using a special item that will remove the seal. The item will be available to purchase eventually, and probably can be found in some treasure boxes. I bet you're wondering what goal those question marks are referring to. The question marks on this specific level represents a "Spheda" goal. If you've visited the GameFAQS message boards, I'm sure you know what Spheda is. If not, Spheda is a golf wannabe mini game in which you have to hit a magical ball into a time distortion. I think it's rather boring personally, but I will cover it later in this guide. Another question mark goal that you will encounter eventually will be a fishing goal. To complete fishing goals, you'll need to catch a fish in XXX dungeon of a certain length. I'll go deeper into fishing later on as well. ---------------------------------------- Sub-A: Floor Info, Goals, and Seals -End ---------------------------------------- Ok, back to the game. Hit X to enter your first dungeon. Max will get a message from Donny over his Help Receiver. Donny will tell you that you need to find a "Floor Map", and that it's in one of the treasure chests on that floor. Donny will continue on and explain what you need to do in each dungeon floor to advance. I'll take this time to begin sub-guide B. ------------------------- Sub-B: Dungeon Essentials ------------------------- To advance to the next floor, you must clear the current floor by getting what is known as the "Gate Key". Gate keys can be found on a random monster in that specific floor. Gate keys are dungeon specific items. For example, in the Underground Water Channel dungeon, the gate key is called a "Key Handle". When you want to advance to the next dungeon floor, you need to find the exit, and use the gate key on it. Floor maps can be found in random treasure chests. Although where ever you walk will be automatically charted, the floor map will show the entire map layout without having seen it first. Your map display can be adjusted by pressing the Select button, by the way. So if that gets in your way, don't hesitate to hit select a few times and disable it. Magic crystals can also be found in random treasure chests. A magic crystal will show you all the treasure chests, monsters, and other special things on that specific floor. Red dots represent monsters, dark yellow dots represent treasure chests, light yellow dots represent Angel/Devil coin spots, and pink dots represent Georama elements, which will be found later on in the game. Another thing to keep in mind when looking at your map are the floor enter and exit points. A green rectangular dot represents where you entered, and the yellow rectangular dot represents the floor exit. There's a ton of crap on the map, huh? Yeah well, there will also be a pinkish "?" located on the map sometimes. These are special healing areas, that will replenish your character's HP, and remove all status aliments. Be warned that you can only use these once every few minutes, or so. The last thing that your map will eventually display will be locked-off areas. A locked off area is represented on your map by a thin brown line, and can be opened if you have the proper item for it. What's in a locked-off area? Usually more enemies, and some treasure. Nothing too spectacular. Also scattered throughout the floors are dungeon specific throwing items. In the Underground Water Channel dungeon, they are wooden boxes. You can pick these things up, and hurl them at your enemies to stun them. Some of the boxes contain items as well, so especially when you're starting out, it's a good idea to smash every little box you come across for valuable items. You can pick them up by holding R1, and pressing X near them. Throw them by simply pressing X again. You can also pick up and throw certain enemies in the same fashion. Last, but certainly not least, are the regular/locked/booby trapped/clown filled treasure chests! All treasure chests look exactly the same in every dungeon floor, and it's impossible to tell the difference between them visually. The first type of treasure chest is a.. regular one. It has no special locks, gizmo's, or surprises. It will just pop open, and the contents become property of Max and Monica. One type of treasure chest, the locked kind, will require a "Treasure Chest Key" to open. These can be purchased from Donny, almost right off the bat, or can be found in other treasure chests, ironically. The game gives you an option to try and force a locked treasure chest open, but more often than not, it will result in injury to your character, and the demolition of the treasure. Do what you want to do, but don't say I didn't warn you! Next up, you got your booby trapped chests. One type of booby trapped chest will offer you 4 choices when inspecting it: "It's a poison trap", "It's an explosion trap", "It's a weapon destroying trap", and the option to leave it the hell alone. Now you get to try and guess which type of trap it has. Good Luck. With these kind of chests, you should either, flat-out, leave them alone, or, select the most-damaging outcome. If you don't have any antidotes on you, select "It's a poison trap". If you don't have any HP restoring items, chose "It's an explosion trap". I think you get the idea. Anyways, if you guess correctly, the contents will become yours for the keeping. If not, you will get hurt one way or another. Good thing about these chests is that you will be able to get it's contents no matter what you do. If it's a poison trap, and you indeed get poisoned from it because you chose the wrong option, inspect the chest again, and choose "It's a poison trap". Another type of booby trapped chest are the ones which contain a monster known as a Mimic. Just like the name would lead you to believe, it's a treasure chest mimicking monster. Hah. Mimics are usually easy to defeat, so this really isn't that big of a problem. The final type of chest is a clown filled one. Yes, a clown. When you open a clown filled chest, a clown will pop out, scare the bejeezus out of you, and offer you one of two gifts. Just pick which ever gift you want, and be done with it. ------------------------------ Sub-B: Dungeon Essentials -End ------------------------------ Back to the walkthrough, yet again. Dungeon crawling time for you. Aimlessly wander through the dungeon, killing enemies, opening treasure boxes, and collecting ABS, Gilda, and items. My only advice to you about dungeon crawling would be to use your block and evade skills to take little or no damage when fighting. Be sure to watch your HP, and WHP meters. After completing the 1st floor, a cut scene about Max's mother will roll. Nice little break from mindlessly bashing Rats, Clowns, and Frogs. Before advancing to floor #2, save your game. Do this after EVERY completed floor to minimize the amount of stuff you'll have to do over. After the completion of dungeon floor #2, you will see another brief cut scene with Max, and mommy. Following that, Donny will contact you. He will inform you about upgrading weapons. Guess what? Sub-guide time! ------------------------ Sub-C: Upgrading Weapons ------------------------ While battling through hoards of monsters, you'll eventually gain enough ABS to upgrade your weapons. ABS are gained by simply killing an enemy, and collecting the blue colored crystals that pop out of its dead carcass. I swear to god, it's like Christmas. When you kill an enemy with your right hand weapon, the ABS will go to your right hand weapon. When you kill an enemy with your left hand weapon, guess where it goes. Anyways, when you get a weapon level up, the words "Level Up!" will appear over Max's head. It's a good idea to take a break from combat at this time, and upgrade your weapons. Press triangle, and access the help menu for a tutorial on how to upgrade weapons. Check out tutorials #16-19. It's better to view that than have me babbling on about upgrading them. :) Keep in mind that basically ANY ITEM YOU HAVE can be spectrumized for weapon upgrading. Choose wisely. I may include another section in the future devoted to Building Up weapons. Time will tell on this one. ----------------------------- Sub-C: Upgrading Weapons -End ----------------------------- After the 3rd dungeon, another cut scene will occur. Max will contact Donny and talk to him about floor 4, the Pump Room. Max will soon get ambushed by Floatsam, and his elephant, Circus Darling Linda. This Mid-Boss is unbeatable at this point. After taking some damage, Cedric will show up from outta the clear blue, riding what is known as the "Ridepod". You will eventually jump on with him, and escape to the sanctuary of his tool shop. Cedric will then teach you how to invent things. Heads up! Here comes sub-guide D, dude. -------------------------------- Sub-D: Photographing & Inventing -------------------------------- In Cedric's own humble words: "Inventing something involves taking several 'ideas' and combining them together to create something new". Delicious concept, no? Yeah well, when you get your trusty camera (complete with infinite film!), you can start gathering ideas for inventions, or as the game likes to call it, "Seeds Of Inventions". Simply take massive amounts of pictures of ANYTHING you think will make a good invention idea. When you think you have some ideas for an invention, access your "Make" menu, and try try try to make something to your hearts content. When you finally invent something, you'll need the appropriate items to actually make it. Find what you need at shops, or in dungeons. Please scope out the Photography/Invention Guide, by on GameFAQS for detailed information about photographing and inventing. ------------------------------------- Sub-D: Photographing & Inventing -End ------------------------------------- Cedric wants to fix up the Ridepod's energy tank. Max volunteers to do it for him. What you need to do now is go outside, and take 3 pictures. 1 must be of a Milk Can, another must be of a Belt, and the last must be of a Pipe. The Milk Can can be found directly outside Polly's Bakery, on the ground. The Belt can be found on Sheriff Blinkhorn, outside of the police station, and the Pipe can be found on top of Cedric's shop. When you have the 3 pictures. return to Cedric, and talk to him. He will explain that you need some materials to actually make the damned thing now. Being the gopher that Max is, he accepts 400 Gilda from Cedric, and agrees to find the items. You have to go to Morton's Sundries and buy 20 Scraps Of Metal, 1 Thick Hide, and 2 Hunks Of Copper. The shop is located near Cedric's shop as well. You'll know it's the right place when you find 3 pumpkins outside a door. Enter. Talk to Morton, and buy the stuff you need. Also note the "Monster Book" and "Cooking Stove" he has stocked. The Monster Notes come in handy when you want to check out the monsters you've encountered, and the Cooking Stove is used later to roast some delicious fish on. Yum yum!! Make your way back to Cedric, and talk to him again. He'll explain how to go about making the Energy Pack now. Access your main menu, and follow his directions. When you're done making it, talk to him for the 90th time. Cedric will equip the Ridepod with the new Energy Pack, and the game will explain that you can now use the ridepod while in dungeons to fight. To use the ridepod, simply press the R3 button, or go to the characters menu, and select it from there. Now is the time where you get a break to do some exploring. Take it. Walk outside, get used to the town, buy some stuff, click some photo's, whatever. There's a TON of invention ideas in Palm Brinks alone, and now is a great time to go get them out of your way. If you want to get everything you possibly can at this point, refer to the Photography guide on GameFAQS. Keep in mind though, that some parts of Palm Brinks are inaccessible at this time (Such as Max's House). Speak to Cedric when you're ready to continue with the dungeon crawling. it would be a good idea to save your game at this point also. Hint HINT! One other thing you might want to do before advancing would be to go back to the Underground Channel entrance, and talk to Donny. He will give you 6 "Scoops" to try and find. sub-guide E comin' up. ------------- Sub-E: Scoops ------------- What's a scoop? A scoop is simply a special picture you can take, and get a nice reward for. Donny boy is your go to guy here. Talk to him oftenly to uncover scoops, and to get rewards for scoops that you've uncovered. To know what to look for, head to your items list, and open the "Inside Scoop Memo" booklet. This will give you hints on where to find scoops. Ever so oftenly your "Photography Level" will increase. Based on this level, Donny will give you different items. from the GameFAQS message boards contributed the following: As you increase in [photography] level you [can] earn: A Diamond An Explorer's Helmet A Bandit Coin Explorer's Shoes Explorer's Outfit Moon Badge Sun Badge ------------------ Sub-E: Scoops -End ------------------ All done exploring Palm Brinks? Now talk to Cedric. Tell him you're ready to go on, and prepare for Brave Little Linda's mini boss battle. After a short cinematic, you will find yourself controlling the Ridepod. **Boss Battle: Brave Little Linda** **Difficulty: 1/10** **Missable Scoop Alert** Before you beat the living hell out of that elephant, hop off the Ridepod, and take a picture of Linda as she does her ground-smash attack. This is one of the many "Missable" scoops in this game. The best way to get Linda to do this attack is to run around back of her, and shoot her in the ass with your gun. No joke. Shoot her, back away some, and ready your camera. When Linda stands on her hind legs, snap away like no tomorrow. It may take some time, but you'll get it eventually. When you're done taking pictures of your would be dispatcher, hop back onto your machine of uber death, (R3) and pound the crap out of her. Try to maneuver around back of her, and watch out for her ground-smash attack, as it causes damage in a complete circle around her. After roughly 9 hits, she's a goner. Cut scene time. Flotsam will swear revenge, and fly away magically. I'll now begin my 6th sub-guide, Sub-F. ------------------ Sub-F: The Ridepod ------------------ The Ridepod is definitely a force to be reckoned with. While making your way through dungeons, you can switch to this machine at anytime with the R3 button. It's oftenly extremely valuable when fighting certain enemies. When you come across an enemy that has loads of HP, and mega high defenses, hop on, and smash away. The only hindering problem the Ridepod experiences is it's ever diminishing fuel bar. When the Ridepod runs out of fuel, you are S.O.L. At this point, you either have to leave the dungeon, and talk to Cedric, or use a refueling item on it, which can be found in some chests, or bought directly from Cedric (Or from some shops later in the game). The Ridepod can be built up similarly to your weapons. When you collect ABS with the Ridepod, it adds up in the Ridepod EXP meter. This can be found at the top of the game screen while on the Ridepod, or when you check out the Ridepod in your menu. After acquiring a certain amount of EXP, you can go to Cedric, and have him upgrade the Ridepod in a number of ways. My only advice to you about upgrading the Ridepod would be to avoid getting the Voice Box add-on. It's a waste of 1000 EXP, and it's extremely annoying to listen to while you dungeon crawl. It's also good to keep in mind that some Ridepod upgrades can be invented, and you do not have to waste precious EXP buying certain ones. ----------------------- Sub-F: The Ridepod -End ----------------------- Continue on deeper into the Underground Channel now. Head to the door opposite the stairs to move on. You might also want to hop off the Ridepod, and conserve it's fuel at this point. Plus, it's slower moving than Max is when running. Cut scene now. Cedric will talk to Mayor Need about some crap, and you will be left in the dark, so to speak. Anyways, save your game at the dungeon menu, and advance. After completing floor #5, The conversation between Cedric and the Mayor will continue. You'll learn some more about what's going on, story wise. Fight on, and following floor #6, prepare yourself for another boss battle. Stock up on Bread. **Boss Battle: Clown Robo - Halloween** **Difficulty: 3/10** **Missable Scoop Alert** Before you begin fighting Clown Robo, ready your camera. The robot will launch missiles at you. These are key in a few inventions, as well as a scoop. Try your best to snap a photo of it while it shoots a missile at you, Once you get the correct photo, advance onto fighting it. The key to defeating this boss is to pick up the RoBombs, or big red noses that the boss heaves at you, and throwing them back. Hold R1 near a bomb, and press X to pick it up. Throw it at the boss with X, and then strike it as it sits there with your wrench. Learn the bosses attack patterns, and also watch out for the little Flotsam Balloons it drops out at you. After roughly 3 bomb hits/wrench attack combo's, this boss should be a goner. Here comes another cinema, enjoy. When you're all done, exit out the door. Save, and run down the stairs. Here comes the train part. Another cut scene. You'll learn about Griffon, and what's happening in the world. After the cut scene, save. Take some pictures inside the train if you'd like, and head out to the roof. Prepare for another boss battle. **Boss Battle: Flotsam & His Clown Car** **Difficulty: 1/10** Our goofy, yet persistent clown friend, Flotsam is at it again. He's decided to chase down the train on his trusty clown car - fitted with a friendly chain gun. Your objective here is to pick up the bombs Cedric sets out for you, and toss them at Flotsam before he destroys the train. This is all about throwing accuracy here. Hit him with 3 bombs, and the battle draws to an end. Heads up, another cut scene for you to enjoy is next. Hope you like fat, nearly naked clowns. :\ You finally meet up with Monica at this point. Thank god. Now it'll be twice as hard to die in dungeons, because you have 2 people to go through before the evil GAME OVER screen. Anyways, Monica explains what Origin Points are, and what you must do next in this game. And on that note, this chapter is over! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- F: Chapter 2 - Resurrection Of The Great Elder ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This chapter begins with Monica explaining what needs to be done in Sindain, the game's 2nd town. You will also find out that you can't advance any further even if you wanted to, the tracks are conveniently blocked. You can, however, return to Palm Brinks at any time by accessing your the "Move" option from your menu screen. Now would be a PERFECT time to explore all of Palm Brinks, as it is all available to roam freely now that Flotsam is gone. Get used to the layout of Palm Brinks, and meet everyone you can. Take some photographs while you're at it, talk to Donny for more Scoops, and find the 3 following HP/Defense raising items: Fruit Of Eden #1 - Across from the police station, next to a cart, and some wooden boxes. Fruit Of Eden #2 - Near Donny in the Underground Channel entrance. Potato Pie #1 - Outside Cedric's shop, directly under his shop sign. I'll now roll into another sub section. ------------------------------- Sub-G: HP/Defense Raising Items ------------------------------- Every now and then, you'll come across an item called "Fruit Of Eden". A Fruit Of Eden will raise your character's HP by 8. They can usually be found in future renditions of Georama areas. Along with Fruit's Of Eden, you can find Potato Pie's for Max, and Witch Parfait's for Monica. Both items raise Defense by 4 points when used. They can also *mostly* be found in future renditions of Georama areas, Palm Brinks being the only known exception at this time. When you find either of these 3 items, use them immediately. Try to keep Max and Monica at even HP though. I'll do my very best to keep a running tally of stat increasing items throughout this FAQ. If you read through my FAQ, and you find one that I've missed, please email me it's location. ------------------------------------ Sub-G: HP/Defense Raising Items -End ------------------------------------ When you think you're ready to enter Sindain, go for it. A small cut scene with Max, Monica, and a new character will occur. The Firbit will run into the house afterwards. This is your cue to follow it inside. Run up to the door, hit X, and enjoy another long cut scene. Mmmmm.. Grape Juice. You'll learn about a mysterious woman, by the name of Holly, as well as the Firbits magical power that enables them to restore houses and things of that nature. Your task now is to go find the 4 missing Firbits, and be on the lookout for Holly. Conda will open the way to Rainbow Butterfly Wood, and give you some Grape Juice. Mmmm.. Grape Juice. Go ahead and enter. Keep your eyes peeled for this dungeon's gate key, called "Fairy Saw", and the locked-off area key, brilliantly called "Stick". o_O One thing I forgot to mention before this point was character switching. You can easily switch between Max and Monica now at any point by pressing the L3 button. Keep this in mind when you encounter certain enemies! Upon entering floor #2, Monica will give you a few items. She will then teach you how to spectrumize items, and use them to synthesize weapons. For more information about upgrading weapons, back track to the sub section devoted to that topic, Sub-C: Upgrading Weapons. After passing floors #1, #2, and #3, you will get a nice break from mindlessly killing monsters. Enter floor #4, and a cut scene will occur. Yay, you found the 4 missing Firbits. Good job. Now go talk to them, and leave the one on the log for last. Another cut scene. When he gives you the hint-hint to give-give him the grape juice, do it. The nice Firbit then joyfully gives you his "Rod" to keep. No jokes, please. And with that, he'll give you a Mimi for bait. I'll explain how to fish with another sexy sub-guide, located right below here for your convenience. ------------------- Sub-H: Fishing & FP ------------------- To fish, you'll need to equip the fishing pole, like it's a weapon, to Max. After you have it in his right hand, select a type of bait for him to use. You can use all sorts of things as bait, from Mimi's and Battan's, to Mellow Bananas, and Poison Apples. I wont bother going into excruciatingly deep detail about bait, and fishing spots for now, but I may in a future update to this guide if I receive enough requests to. Anyhow, after you bait up your hook, stand near pretty much any water you can find, and press X to cast. Wait until the game shows it's little "X: Start Fishing" prompt before you begin throwing controllers in anger, while wondering why the @#%$ you can't fish. Oh, and another thing; If you're trying to fish in a dungeon, make sure you've defeated all enemies before even trying. The game forces you to do this before it lets you fish. On to the finer points of fishing. After pressing X the 1st time, you'll see some goofy looking pointers out on, and above, the water. This is showing you where you're aiming to cast right now. Move the pointers around with the left analog stick to your desired casting spot, and hit X to fire that sucka out there. Great, the bait, hook, and bobber are all now in the water. Use the right analog stick to move the camera around Max's back to get a better view of the bobber, or hit R2 to zoom in on it. Be sure to read the controls at the bottom of the screen at this time too, as they show everything you need to know. Now all you have to do is sit there, and wait for a fish to take your bait. Easier said than done. You'll know when a fish is nibbling at your bait when you see the bobber wiggle, and/or when you feel your controller vibrate. If after around 3 minutes of sitting there, staring at your TV, and you haven't gotten as much as a nibble, Reel in, and move to a different spot. Proceed to try, try, TRY again. Still with me? Hope so.. When you finally get lucky, and a fish does take your bait (you'll know this when you see an exclamation point [!] over Max's head) pull down on the left analog stick to set the hook. Now comes the fun part, reeling it in. Reeling a fish in is rather simple, after you get the hang of it. Use X to reel, and watch the tension gauge illustrated on the right side of your screen. If that tension gauge ever fills all the way up, the line breaks, and that fish returns to safety. So, don't let it happen, Jack. The other thing to watch for when reeling in are the arrows that appear from time to time right where your line meets the water. If you press the left analog stick in the direction that arrow is pointing, it lowers your tension gauge dramatically. When you catch your first fish, you will see Max holding the fish, and a small pop up window that looks something like the following ASCII junk: /--------------------\ | Caught Priscleen! | | 40 cm. 34 FP | \--------------------/ In this example, the fish caught was a Priscleen, it's 40 centimeters long, and was worth 34 FP. I'm sure you're looking at this sentence with a "DUH" look on your face. I know, it's obvious crap, but it's leading into my next explanation! FP! What's FP? FP stands for Fishing Points. FP can be exchanged in your menu screen when you select your fishing rod, to increase your personal fishing skills. Why would anyone bother doing this? Well, because it makes it easier to catch fish, first of all, and second, it may increase your chances of catching rare fish depending on your Luck stat. To increase a stat by 1 point, you need a whopping 100 FP. It sucks, I know. ------------------------ Sub-H: Fishing & FP -End ------------------------ If you feel like fishing now, go ahead. If you want to advance the story, head past the Firbits, and across the wooden bridge. Continue along this way, and wander off to the left between 2 rock formations. You'll soon see a giant ape sitting on its ass while leaning against a tree. He wont attack you or anything, so don't worry about that. In fact, there will be a cut scene if you keep walking that way. Do so to advance the game. Turns out that the ape is named "Master Utan". Poor Master Utan is sick, he's eaten some poison apples. HEH. Utan goes on to explain how the "Holy One" must be angry at him for eating its favorite food. Monica goes on and asks about the Holy One, and your next objective becomes bluntly clear. After the cut scene, turn around and snap a picture of Utan. You'll get credit for a Scoop. Proceed to the swamp Utan tells you about next. Another nice cut scene will let you know you're there. What you have to do here is use a Poison Apple as bait, and fish in that swamp. If you don't have any Poison Apples in your inventory, exit this floor, and dungeon crawl in floors #1-#3 until you find one. Skeleton Soldiers (Skeleton.. Soldiers), and Tores (Big @#$%ing tree monsters) usually drop them, so seek those 2 out. If you do have a Poison Apple, equip it to your rod, and cast into the swamp. When you finally get a hit, the game will quickly jump into another cut scene. You'll meet King Mardan, quite possibly the first "homosexual fish" in video gaming history. The fish then asks you to go find him a Priscleen fish for him, because he feels "dirty", and in return, he'll return the Firbits back to normal. What you have to do now is head back over to where the Firbits are, and catch yourself a Priscleen. Use Mimi's as bait. I find that they catch Priscleen the majority of the time when used here. If you happen to run out, the Firbit on the log has your back. Talk to him, and he'll give you more. After you catch the Priscleen, head back over to Mardan and give him the fish. Be sure to snap a photo of him before you present the Priscleen to him. He's a missable scoop. Another cut scene for your troubles is next. Head back over to where the Firbits are at, and you'll get yet another cut scene. Save, and go back to Sindain after it ends. Next, enter the Firbits house to advance the story. Cut scene time. The Firbits will whine about Holly for a short while, and then eventually explain that they'll hold up their end of the bargain. You'll go on to learn all about The Carpenterion, Geostones, Atlamillia, Time Gates, and time travel during this cut scene. Watch out, sub section I is up next, followed directly by sub section J. This one cinema covers a lot of important stuff, and I need to break it all down. ----------------------- Sub-I: The Carpenterion ----------------------- What the hell is "The Carpenterion"? The Carpenterion is a big, magical, flying machine owned by the Firbits. This machine is capable of building houses and stuff like that in no time flat. Turns out the Firbits don't really have the power to restore houses and the like themselves, but they own a big ass flying robot that does. The Carpenterion is used in this game to restore towns, and ultimately "Origin Points" of areas that were erased in Max's time period. Ok, now what? I guess I should go over the controls for the Carpenterion. When you're in a georama area, watch for a little blue and white logo to appear in the bottom left hand corner of your screen. This lets you know when you can take control of it. Press select to do so. The camera now shows a zoomed out view of the land you were just running on, and a blue cone in the center of your screen. You can move the cone around with the left analog stick, and you can pan/rotate the camera with the right. Press triangle to bring up the georama menu screen, and press select to return Max to the ground. It would be a good idea to view tutorials #38-43 under the help menu to get a better understanding of all of this stuff. ---------------------------- Sub-I: The Carpenterion -End ---------------------------- ------------------ Sub-J: Time Travel ------------------ Woo hoo!! Time travel, baby! What's more fun than jumping ahead in time 100 years? Don't answer, it's rhetorical. As if this game wasn't packed full of goodness already, the developers decided to cram time travel into this whole thing too. To time travel, you need to use the power of "Atlamillia" at "Time Gates". Atlamillia? Time Gates? Atlamillia are very special stones in this game. Max has a red one, and Monica has a blue one. Max's red Atlamillia enables him, and anyone with him, to travel 100 years into the future. Monica's blue Atlamillia enables her, and anyone with her, to travel 100 years into the past. I hope you notice the pattern here. ^_^ Time Gates are points on certain georama areas that you use to travel ahead or back 100 years time. It's important to travel back and forth between present and future many times throughout this game to advance the story. To use a Time Gate and your Atlamillia to travel through time, simply walk into a Time Gate, and press X. ----------------------- Sub-J: Time Travel -End ----------------------- Arright, cool, you now know how to use the Carpenterion, and how to time travel. Feel free to use the Carpenterion at this point to move some of the already-placed georama items around. When you think you have a good handle on how it works, find Sindain's Time Gate, and travel to the future. During this visit to the future Sindain, you will meet a young Firbit, by the name of Yuran. He'll talk about how something big is missing, etc. There's also 1 small treasure box here at this time. It contains Fruit Of Eden #3. Keep your eyes peeled for it. Go ahead and head back to Rainbow Butterfly Wood, floor #4 at this time. Make your way over to Master Utan, and a new cut scene will roll. Utan will move one of the boulders that were keeping you from progressing on. Proceed to the next floor by walking through the area that Utan cleared for you. Save your game at the dungeon screen, and enter floor #5. Floor #5 will contain items known as "Geostones". Here we go, sub guide L is directly below! ---------------- Sub-L: Geostones ---------------- The majority of your quest in Dark Cloud 2 revolves around collecting magical stones, named "Geostones". Geostones contain plans, or blueprints if you will, for creating certain georama elements. When you find a Geostone in a dungeon, and then "download" it to the Carpenterion, it allows you to create items from the blueprints found in that specific Geostone. For example, one Geostone may contain plans for a Brick House, while another may contain plans for a Pot. When the Carpenterion has these plans installed, you will need the appropriate items to actually make them. I'll go super in-depth about geostone contents, as well as locations, and items needed near the end of this guide (Section N). I'll also cover what to do in order to "100%" each specific area's goals. Geostones are marked on your dungeon map as pink dots, and their actual appearance is that of a molten, egg shaped stone. When you see one in a dungeon, I promise you that there's no way you'll miss it.. Unless you don't pick it up, that is.. --------------------- Sub-L: Geostones -End --------------------- After completing floor #5, and grabbing it's Geostone, I suggest that you take a break from the action, and learn how to use them. After clearing floor #5, save your game, and leave the dungeon. A cut scene with Conda will occur, as well as a short tutorial on how to use the Carpenterion. Don't bother creating/placing anything on the map now. Instead, head back to the future and find 2 new small treasure boxes. One contains Fruit Of Eden #4, and Potato Pie #2. After that, feel free to screw around with the georama parts you've unlocked. Remember that if you're short on materials needed to build certain georama parts, board the train, go to the last car, and speak with Conda. He will sell you pretty much everything you'll need to build any sort of georama item. When you're itching to continue the dungeon crawling, head back to Rainbow Butterfly Wood, and pick up where you left off. Fight through until you reach floor #8. Floor #8 features a "Double Gate", or "Double Exit". Whatever you like to call it, it's 2 different ways to exit the floor, and ultimately, provides 2 separate paths in the dungeon itself. Thankfully, the game only lets you head one way in this floor (you'll see what I mean when you try to choose an exit). Floors that feature Double Gates usually have a Sun, and a Star sign near each exit. Sun signs are almost always the way to go when you first begin a dungeon. With that in mind, complete floor #8, and make sure you have collected the geostone. Exit the floor through the sun gate, save, and leave the dungeon. After leaving the dungeon, access the georama menu in Sindain. It will download all the new Geostones to memory, and open up a new portion of the game, Support Character Recruiting. Right after you upload the Geostones to the Carpenterion, get back on the ground, and a new cut scene will roll. Max and Monica will talk about how they need someone who can "tend to trees" in order to restore Jurak's origin point. You'll need to go back to Palm Brinks, and find Max's gardener, Gordon. Feel free to head back to Palm Brinks at this time. Now you have to find Max's house. Remember before when I asked you to explore the town? this is when it comes in handy. Anyways, Max's house is located in the "upper-class" portion of Palm Brinks. From the center of town, head over the bridge, and make a right. Keep walking to the right, until you see a huge mansion, complete with a waterfall, and iron gates. Walk onto the property, and look for a bald, shirtless man near a tree. This is Gordon. Talk to him, and complete his small side-quest to get him to join you. After recruiting Gordon, it's HIGHLY recommended that you go throughout Palm Brinks, and recruit as many people as you can. It's better to get it out of the way sooner than later. I'll begin Sub-guide L below here. ------------------------ Sub-L: Recruiting People ------------------------ Recruiting people plays a very important role in completing Dark Cloud 2. Some characters are needed to "100%" certain Georama goals, while some others are included to give the gamer flexibility when choosing a support character. Each character you can recruit has specific abilities in dungeons. For example, one will resurrect a fallen character, and another will sell you bombs. To recruit someone, you must fulfill their specific goal. One person will have you catch a big fish, while another will have you take a picture of the moon, for example. Goals and hints on how to recruit a certain character will appear in your "Notebook" item, after you speak to them for the 1st time. A full list of recruitable characters will appear at the end of this guide, as well as detailed information on how to recruit each specific character, for reference. ----------------------------- Sub-L: Recruiting People -End ----------------------------- Hopefully, at this point, you have quite a few people to choose from, as far as support characters go. Choose whoever you want to accompany you, and advance deeper into the Rainbow Butterfly Wood dungeon. Fight through, while collecting every geostone, until you reach the final floor, "Rainbow Falls". Don't worry about the "Boss" marker for now, because there simply isn't a boss to fight there.. yet. Go ahead and enter the floor. You'll notice a small swamp in the middle of the level. Inspect it, and Max or Monica (whoever you are at this time) will comment on it. Leave the dungeon, and head back to Sindain. Be sure to save, as always. Now comes the time where you'll actually be forced to fulfill georama goals in order to advance the story. Press select in Sindain to enter the Carpenterion, and begin rebuilding Sindain. I'll begin Sub-M, "Chapter 2 Georama-Rama" under here. Keep in mind that if you ever run out of materials needed to build certain georama items, go speak to Conda on the train, and purchase some, or, dungeon crawl to your heart's content to find what you need. There will be quite a few cut scenes in the future, as well as a number of special items you need to buy in order to recruit certain people, and, above all, to advance the game. You'll find both coins Donny wants, as well as the special Gold Paint Parn wants. Purchase both when you restore the Tailor Shop, and go recruit those 2 characters. You'll also need to buy the Himarra Badge to enable Monica's monster transformations. Go through this next sub-guide, and complete the Georama goals. I'll explain Monster Transformations after this sub-guide is complete. ----------------------------- Sub-M: Chapter 2 Georama-Rama ----------------------------- Every Georama-Rama sub section throughout this guide will display goals, hints, and any other information I find to be helpful when completing XxX chapter's Georama portion. You'll get the hang of my layout quickly, I assure you. Anyways, on with the show! Sindain's Goals, As Listed In Game: O-Forest Lake Restored |--15 River Parts placed O-Glowing Mushrooms restored |--Elder Jurak revived |--10 Trees Placed O-Withered Tree restored |--Nose Tree between Eye Trees |--Nose and Eye Trees near River O-Elder Jurak Revived |--Withered Tree restored |--Forest Lake restored |--Gordon resides in Sindain O-Tailor Shop Restored |--Elder Jurak Revived |--Adel Resides In Sindain |--30 Culture Points obtained O-Eatery Restored |--Elder Jurak revived |--Polly Resides In Sindain |--40 Culture Points Obtained O-Weapon Shop Restored |--Elder Jurak Revived |--Milaine resides in Sindain |--Elder Jurak's Branch restored |--50 Culture Points obtained O-Elder Jurak's Branch restored |--10 Trees placed |--??? Get your total CP to at least 50. -Future Changes: Weapons Shop will now be open, on top of one of Jurak's Branches. A new Firbit will be running the store. -Future Treasures: Jurak Gun (Sindain's 100% Completion Gift) ---------------------------------- Sub-M: Chapter 2 Georama-Rama -End ---------------------------------- Wowza. How's that for a sub section? Hope you followed every single little step, and got 100% for Sindain. Now would be a good time to go recruit Parn, Julia, and Donny, so why don't you go ahead and do that now? :P After recruiting them, it's time to learn about Monster Transformations! Whee!! Now I get to write another sub-guide. I hope you aren't getting as tired of reading them, as I am of writing them. Heh! Here you go, Sub-N: Monster Transformation is a couple lines below here. ----------------------------- Sub-N: Monster Transformation ----------------------------- La la la. Another sub-guide for you to read. This one happens to be all about Monica's Monster Transformation skill. Whenever our heroine finds a new "Monster Badge" she can transform into a new kind of monster. How original, witty, and clever! This transformation works similarly to how Max jumps into his Ridepod, when in dungeons. Press R3 while inside a dungeon, and BAM!, Monica changes to the pre-selected monster of your choice. Also note that your monster's health drains, as if it was a Ridepod, and/or a poisoned human being. How original, witty, and clever! 0_o Um.. these monsters also level up similarly to the Ridepod, and somewhat like your weapons. Whenever you kill something, and collect the dropped ABS with Monster-Monica, that specific monster will gain experience, and eventually level up. If you level up each monster enough, it will change form to a totally new monster. Too bad it takes FOR-FREAKING-EVER!!!! :( One mega-cool thing about being a monster is that you will be able to talk to other monsters of that specific type, for the most part. For example, when you're a Himarra, you can talk to other Himarra's, and some other floral type monsters, like the Man-Eating Grass. This comes in pretty handy when you want to get some hints on how to find other monster badges, or when you have very low hp, and need to avoid fighting. Sometimes the monsters you talk to will say some "funny" things to you. "Funny" meaning boring crap that the developers added in to make the game more.. fun, I guess. Anyways, your first transformation type will be that of a Floral monster, a Himarra to be exact. It's been said that there are badges for each type of monster in this entire game, barring bosses. I've decided to compile a list of obtainable Monster Badges, as well as how you can go about getting them, and what monsters you change into after you level up XxX number of times. Look for it towards the bottom of this FAQ, underneath the Character Recruitment section. How original, witty, and.. bloop. ---------------------------------- Sub-N: Monster Transformation -End ---------------------------------- Hopefully you know how to transform frail little Monica into a hellacious beast. If not, read the sub-guide again!! They're there for a reason, you know. Ok, what’s next.. Oh yeah, now you have to head back to Rainbow Butterfly Wood, find a Himarra to talk to, and get a Sundrop. Or you could go hunting for some more monster badges. The choice is yours. If you want to search for some new monster badges, scroll down to section O: Monster Transformation List, and get some hints on how to find some new ones. Onto getting yourself a nice new Sundrop. Head to the first floor of Rainbow Butterfly Wood, and locate a Himarra. Change into a Himarra yourself, and talk to the other Himarra you've found. A small cut scene with you and the other monster will roll, and you'll get a Sundrop. Slaughter all the monsters in that floor, and head out the floor's exit. Save your game, and return to the Boss area. Walk up to the little swamp, and press square to bring up the little sub menu. Select the Lafrescia Seed, and Max or Monica will toss it in. Following the very small cut scene, press square again, but this time toss in your newly acquired Sundrop. After the blinding flash of magical light, the ground will quake, and the Lafrescia Flower will grow super-duper huge before your very eyes. At this point you can either climb up the flower, and begin the boss battle, OR, you can take a picture of the stem, leave the dungeon, return to Palm Brinks, and recruit Claire (See the recruitment guide below for details). The choice is yours. Approach the thin white rope, and inspect it when you're ready to get on with this game. Max and Monica will talk for a short while, and eventually will appear up on top of the Flower. Cut scene, cut scene, cut scene. You'll encounter the Rainbow Butterfly. Here comes another Boss Strategy, haven't seen one of these in a while! :P **Boss Battle: Legendary Creature: Rainbow Butterfly** **Difficulty: 5/10** **Missable Scoop Alert** Arright, here's the low down. Dodge the Rainbow Butterfly's attacks (it shoots an extremely slow white laser type thing along the ground at you, and shoots some rainbow colored balls, that poison you if you get hit). Attack the flower's Stamens (they look like giant yellow tentacles, almost). After each one is standing straight up, the butterfly will split apart. Now you can either finish this boss off quickly, or try to get a missable scoop. If you want to get the missable scoop, simply run around, and disrupt each butterfly multiple times, until they all fly back to the tips of the Stamen's. Get your camera ready, and take pictures like crazy as the butterflies merge together. Once you have your scoop, attack the Stamen's and, the butterfly will split once again. Once the butterflies settle in place, you have to sneak up on them in a special order, and attack. Kill them off in "Roy G. Biv" fashion, or if you haven't gone to school, the order of Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet. Make sure you don't make too much noise while moving, or they'll fly away. Try to walk very very slowly while approaching each butterfly. If you find that they're flying away/attacking you even though you get right up to them, and attack, try to switch weapons, or switch characters. After you defeat the butterflies in that specific order, a cut scene will roll. I wont bother ruining it this time, so, after it finishes, head to Sindain. On your way there, save the damn game. You don't want to fight that boss again, believe me. Once is enough. Once in Sindain, make your way over to the Time Gate, and go to the future. Another LONG cut scene will take over. Jurak will talk about Griffon.. S..L..O..W..L..Y. You'll eventually learn about Crest, the super sage. Turns out that Crest's origin point has been wiped out too. How predictable. After Jurak's cut scene, it will roll into another one with the Firbits. Finally, the cut scene will show that the tracks have been cleared. You now regain control of whoever you defeated the Rainbow Butterfly with. Talk to Cedric, and head to the newly opened Balance Valley. Upon arrival, you'll discover that the train tracks are once again blocked. 0_o Make your way through the cave station, and up to Balance Valley. Boom, cut scene #500 will play now. You'll learn about Balance Valley's unique georama, and how you'll need to build things on each plateau evenly. Max will spot a house, and you'll regain control of your character. Head on over, and enter. Another cut scene will roll, this time featuring a freakish Owl, and a sick girl by the name of Lin. Max will think long and hard about what to do to help Lin, and will come to the conclusion that they need Dr. Dell of Palm Brinks to make a housecall. Time to fulfill your role as gopher of the millennium, and seek the help of Dr. Dell. Make your way back to Palm Brinks, and head to the lake area there. Enter Dr. Dell's cabin/house/shack, and a cut scene will roll with the good ol' Doc. This is probably the only character in the entire game who's voice DOES NOT FIT. Dr. Dell will join up with you as a support character. On a side note, you will witness a small glitch in the game, no doubt. Dr. Dell will say something totally different than what the text reads at the bottom of your screen. Don't bother sending me an email about this glitch, and don't bother flooding the message boards at GameFAQS about it. Everyone knows already, ok?? Anyhow, Head back to Balance Valley, and enter the Owl's house. Cut scene for you, cut scene for me. Dr. Dell will diagnose Lin, and Monica will reveal her knowledge about a master chef named Lao Chao, and his "Miracle Dish" that will cure any illness. Why she didn't mention this before, I have no clue. You'll also learn about Lao Chao's Bistro, and Starlight Canyon, by the way. On that final cut scene, chapter 2 will draw to its end. Woo-Hoo!! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- G: Chapter 3 - The Sage of the Stars ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter 3 begins in a cut scene with Monica explaining Balance Valley’s georama condition in detail. Save your game afterwards, and make your way to Starlight Canyon. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- H: Chapter 4 - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I: Chapter 5 - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- J: Chapter 6 - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- K: Chapter 7 - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- L: Chapter 8 - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- M: Monster List ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This section will cover every monster encountered, except bosses, throughout the world of Dark Cloud 2, as well as their weaknesses, effective weapons, ABS dropped, fighting tactics etc. ----------------------------------- Mon-A: Underground Channel Monsters ----------------------------------- Name: Bat Type: Beast ABS Dropped: 6 Gilda Dropped: 6 Weakness: Chill Effective Weapons: Gun (Normal), Gun (Beam), Magic Ineffective Weapons: Wrench, Gun (Grenade) Item Inventory: Holy Water, Wind Crystal, Bundle Of Hay Key To Victory: Shoot with your gun, and avoid using right handed weapons. Name: Mimic (Underground Channel Type) Type: Magical Creature ABS Dropped: 8 Gilda Dropped: 12 Weakness: Flame, Smash Effective Weapons: Gun (Beam) Ineffective Weapons: Gun (Normal) Item Inventory: Destruction Crystal Key To Victory: These things are more annoying than anything. Sucks when you go to open a treasure, and it ends up being a mimic. As soon as you know it's going to be a mimic, move away. Try to get around behind the mimic as it does it's long attack patterns, and attack. Continue until dead. Name: Flotsam Balloon Type: Magical Creature ABS Dropped: 10 Gilda Dropped: 14 Weakness: Flame, Lightning Effective Weapons: Gun (All) Ineffective Weapons: Wrench Item Inventory: None Key To Victory: Usually you can just run up to this monster, and smash it to death without it as much as even getting off 1 attack. They blow up whenever they run into anything, you see. Oh, and another key to victory would be to kill the Tore, that produces these enemies, before it gets a chance to. Name: Pumpkinhead Type: Flora ABS Dropped: 10 Gilda Dropped: 12 Weakness: Flame, Lightning Effective Weapons: None Ineffective Weapons: None Items Dropped: Antidote Drink Key To Victory: Evade it's pumpkin bombs, and attack from behind. Try not to lock onto it, and get in close while holding R1 (Block). It'll jump out of the ground, and try to attack you. As soon as you block the attack, let go of R1, and attack like crazy before it comes back out of the ground for another attack. You can also try to use the charged up X attack to stun it, then attack, but I wouldn't recommend it as a solid way to kill it with out getting hurt by it's long range breath attack. Hold down X, get close to this monster, and let go of X when the monster closes in on you. It will get stunned, and you will proceed to bash it to death, Ok? Ok. Name: Fire Element Type: Spirit ABS Dropped: 14 Gilda Dropped: 15 Weakness: Chill Effective Weapons: None Ineffective Weapons: Gun (Normal), Gun (Grenade) Items Dropped: Flame Stone, Flame Crystal, Fire Element Key To Victory: Block it's initial long range attacks, while moving in closer and closer. Once the Fire Element gives up on it's fire ball attack, it will attempt to maul you physically. Just block, wait for it's attack pattern to complete, and bash to death. Hunter Fox will attempt to aim at you with its rifle, and eventually fire. As long as you're blocking, nothing will happen to your precious HP. When you get close enough, it may or may not go onto it's secondary attack, which is hitting you with the butt of the rifle. Just keep blocking, learn it's attack pattern, and smash/slash/bash it when you can. Name: Killer Snake Type: Reptile Family ABS Dropped: 20 Gilda Dropped: 22 Weakness: Chill, Smash, Scale Effective Weapons: Ridepod Ineffective Weapons: Wrench, Sword, All Guns, Magic Items Dropped: Sea Dragon Crystal, Life Element Key To Victory: The Killer Snake is pretty much a push over, as long as you use the Ridepod. Move close, mash X, and hope it dies before it burrows underground. If it happens to go under, move in a straight line away from where it did go under, and wait for it to pop back up again. Proceed to move in, and bash away. How: Talk to him as Max, then proceed to do his little race in under 2 minutes and 1 second. You'll have to run from where he is standing to the boat in the lake area of Palm Brinks, and back. My tips for completing this are... ..Talk to Blinkhorn before the race from as far away from him as you possibly can, and pan the camera to it's facing Max when you talk to him. ..Hold nothing but up on the left analog stick while running the main course. Use the right analog stick to to pitch the camera behind Max, and thus, turn him effectively. Do NOT do this while starting out the race (if Max is facing Sheriff Blinkhorn, and the camera is behind him), and while maneuvering around the dock to the boat. ..Take the shortest possible route to and from the boat. Practice a few times if necessary. Remember that you cannot run between trees (awful programming). ..Mash the X button like mad when you approach Sheriff Blinkhorn on your way back; it will help you talk to him from the farthest distance you can, thus, reducing your overall time by what could be a few precious milliseconds. ..Try to recruit Fabio, and put him into your support character slot. If Fabio isn't on the dock, you can button mash X like crazy when you get near the boat, and not have to worry about interacting with Fabio. Abilities: -Show me the monster notes. Changed roman numerals to letters. Added Geostone List section. Worked on chapter 2 some more. 3/12/03: Version 0.22: Finished chapter 2 up to where you can begin recruiting people. Changed my idea of having the complete character recruitment list within the "Recruiting People" sub-guide (Sub-L), and decided to dedicate an entire section to it (O: Character Recruitment List). Almost completely finished the Character Recruitment List.
