I have playing 2D fighters ever since the first Street Fighter game was released. I always use to use Ken and Guile. I've evolved and I Hardly use them now. Yun is one of my favorites to use in CvsS 2. Along with Kyo, Athena, Hibiki, and Terry. My favorite Fighting game as of now is Street Fighter Alpha 3 (Zero 3). I love to use Guy in Alpha 3. Now enough about me. On with the FAQ. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2. Quick Profile Yun's full name is Lee, Yun. He is the brother of Lee, Yang. His fighting style is Kung-Fu. Gen is his grandfather and taught him his fighting style. (For those who don't know, Gen is in the Alpha series) Yun loves to skate, as if can't already tell and is more outgoing than his brother Yang, who likes to be by himself most of the time. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3. Why use Yun? Why use Yun indeed. Well Yun is very fast. I usually like to pair Yun up with the S groove. He is fast to knock an opponent down and charge his meter. then I can use dodge to keep myself from getting hit and counter with a quick easy combo. Yun isn't strong, but with his speed, he can outmatch even the most powerful characters. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 4. Abbreviations Directions: U - Up UL - Up Left UR - Up Right L - Left R - Right D - Down DL - Down Left DR - Down Right Buttons: P - Any Punch WP - Weak Punch SP - Strong Punch FP - Fierce Punch K - Any kick SK - Short Kick FK - Forward Kick RK - Roundhouse kick Directional movements: QCF - Quarter Circle forward QCB - Quarter Circle Back HCF - Half Circle Forward HCB - Half Circle Back FDD - Forward, Down, Downforward BDD - Back, Down, Downback ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. General Moves General moves are the basis of 2D fighters. Just general punch and kick attacks usually just performed with 1 or 2 buttons or motions. Without these moves, it will be rather hard to win. Standing: WP - A quick palm stab. Rating: *** SP - A shot with the elbow. Rating: ** FP - A forward punch. Rating: *** SK - A quick knee shot. Rating: ** FK - A quick high kick in the air. Rating: ** RK - A strong forward kick (does a double kick in the air when close). Rating: *** (****) R WP - Same as WP. R SP - Same as SP R FP - Same as FP (alittle near oppoent results in Yun doing an upward chop for 2 hits). Rating: (***) R SK - Same as SK R FK - A twisting turn kick. Rating: *** R RK - Same as RK Crouching: WP - Same as standing WP except he's crouching. Rating: **** SP - A slower version of the WP version. Rating: *** FP - A rising chop upward. Rating: *** SK - A quick leg stab. Rating: ** FK - Yun turns around with a leg stab. Rating: * RK - Yun leans forward slightly and sweeps the floor. Rating: ***** Jumping: WP - Yun leans down with his elbow. Rating: *** SP - Yun leans down with a punch. Rating: ** FP - Same as SP version except it's stronger, straight jump results in a poke. Rating: **** SK - Yun kicks forward. Rating: ** FK - Yun kicks forward again except it's a bit more downward. Rating: *** RK - Yun kicks in an upward fashion parralleling his leg with his body. Rating: *** DR RK - Yun does a diving kick toward his opponent. Rating: *** Throws: FP - Yun grabs the opponent then elbows them in the chest. Rating: *** RK - Yun grabs the opponent with his hands and flips them over. Then he uses his legs to push the opponent off. Rating: *** Taunt - Yun takes off his hat and twirls it in his index finger while saying something in japanese. (I thought he was cantonese) Rating: * Roll - Yun does a cartweel without his hands touching the ground. Rating: *** Dash - Yun jumps forward a bit. Rating: * Back dash - Yun does a double flip backwards. Rating: ** Dodge - Yun Steps back saying "ootah" or something like that. Rating: **** Winning pose: Yun stands with one leg up and jibbers something in japanese. Yun has his hand on his fist and bows. Yang jumps in and poses with Yun. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 6. Special Moves Special moves are the pinnacle of any fighter. They are usually used to start or end combos. Don't abuse them though, because most specials have slow recovery time and you'll get owned. Zesshou Hohou - QCF + P A lunging attack. Yun jumps forward with his fists with his legs spread. Good move to end combos as it has a fast start up. I don't suggest using the FP version, because if it is blocked, you'll eat some damage. Rating: **** Senkyutai - QCF + K A rising kick. I believe it was taken from Yang. It doesn't have the roll that Yang has when you use the FK or RK version in SFIII. The stronger the kick, the higher up Yun goes. Good anti-air. Don't use RK version unless you're sure it will hit. Rating: *** Kobokushi - QCB + P (QCB + PPP) A two handed thrust with his palms open. Can stop regular projectiles such as fireballs. All 3 punches do a false one where you can act quickly to a opponent that expected the real one. You can use 2 punches as well. Rating: *** Tetsuzanko - FDD + P Yun ducks and moves forward, then raises his shoulder to attack. Good move to surprise opponents, but don't abuse it. Seems a bit slower than the SFIII version. Rating: ** Zenpou Tenshin - HCB + K Yun grabs the opponent, then flips himself over to the other side. Not really very useful. Good if you want to taunt your opponent, I guess. Rating: * ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7. Desperate moves/Supers Desperate moves (or DMs) are used when either your guage is filled up, or if you are using S groove, have a flashing bar. The hit for alot more damage than special moves and are usually variations of the special moves. Most of the DMs have lag and bad recovery time so only use it if you're sure you will hit the opponent, otherwise you might take a nasty beating afterwards. Raishin Maken - QCF x 2 + K Yang jumps in right next to Yun and kicks the opponent, then strikes him with his fist hitting a couple of times. More hits with level 2 and Max. Good move only if you're using level 2 or max. Level one is too short and requires Yun to be right next to the opponent where Yun can eat some damage while Yang jumps in. Higher the level, the farther Yang jumps. Stick with Sourai Rengeki for your level 1 DM. I found a bit of an easy way to connect. Knock your enemy down with a sweep. Get about 2 steps away from him and wait till he or she starts the getting back up animation, then quickly input it and Yang should jump in just in time to just graze the opponent. Most likely it will probably be blocked, but sometimes it will hit. This is the best way I can get the level one to hit without the enemy being dizzy. Rating: ** Sourai Rengeki - QCF x 2 + P Yun punches opponent a couple of times. He starts kick at the end with SP and FP. Good super. I think it's by far better than Raishin Maken, but Raishin Maken looks cooler. Normal startup time. Rating: ***** You Hou - QCB x 2 + P (Level 3 & Max) Yun punches opponent once, then thrusts his shoulders up, and finally he slams the opponent in the air with a rising forearm. Not that great of a super IMO. Stick with Sourai Rengeki. Rating: *** Hiten Souryuu-jin - QCB x 2 + K (Level 3 & Max/air only) Yun makes a downward kick at the opponent similar to the jumping DR RK. If it connects, Yang jumps in and comes in on the other side. They both then commence punishing the opponent into oblivion and end it with both kicking from either side. Excellent move. If you plan to use a level 3 or max DM, this is your choice. It comes out pretty quick and should surprise you opponent. Plus it looks really cool. Rating: **** ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 8. General Combos Yun has alot of good fast combos. Unfortunately I don't know most of them. I know only of a few general ones you can do for quick and easy damage. Crouching WP x 3 into a Zesshou Hohou Jumping FP WP x 2 into a Zeshou Hohou Jumping FP into a You Hou or Sorai Rengeki (C Groove Max bar) Jumping deep FP, WP, WP, MP, Sourai Rengeki level 2, Cancel, Raisshin Maken level 1. Yes I'm a scrub ^_^;; ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 9. General Strategies Yun has alot of ways of pummeling his opponents. You either use speedy combos, or just use his speed for guerilla warfare AKA hit and run. I generally use both since I don't know many combos with him. Dodge is very useful with Yun. Once I had a fight with Shin Gouki and he had about 1/3 of his life depleted. I had about 3/4 of my life gone. I was ratio 1, and obviously he's ratio 4. Instead of aggressively going after him, I instead went to dodge and hit and run tactics. Dodging, then using throws and charging up my bar whenever I possibly could. Then dodging again and creaming him with DMs. Keep in mind that Shin Gouki is incredibly fast. I'm sure he's faster than Yun. Your dodge lasts about a half second. You have to plan it right so Yun can get back into possition quickly to coutner attack. If you don't time it right, Shin Gouki will most likely make you eat a super or hurricane kick. Absolutely never and I mean never, use any special moves on Shin Gouki other than Zesshou Hohou, Senkyutai, or his DM Sourai Rengeki. Trust me on this. This strategy may or may not work with God Rugal since obviously his moves are different. Shotokans are the worst. Who still uses them these days? I mean common. J/K. I know we all grew up using shotokans. Here are some basic strategies for shotokans otehr than Shin Gouki of course. For Ken and Ryu, it's pretty simple stuff. First of all, everytime I fight them, I find a pattern. Ken uses Shoryuken almost all the time whether he is near you or not. He does them in succession too. That's where Yun punishes him with straight, fast, and easy combos. It happens almsot too often. Of course this won't work with a human player, since they are smarter. Well depending on who's playing that is :p Ryu almost all the time does at least 2 consecutive Hadoukens at one time. This is where Yun eats him up alive. Jump up over him and tap the FP, then start a chain of simple combos followed by a Sourai Rengeki. Works 95% of the time. Also if you are using any groove other than S, you can roll over to him and commence operation: Shotokan massacre. For Gouki, the 2 strategies don't seem to work since he balances out his attacks. For one, he uses his Shoryuken about 80% of the time whenever he is close to you. This is when you try to dodge his attack. If you do it successfully, you can pound him with even more speedy combos, or you can throw him. I prefer the former. Either way, it'll punish him dearly. The other 20% of the time he'll most likely Hurricane kick you, then juggle you for a Shoryuken (I know everyone hates this). Big damage. Gotta watch out for that. When he teleports, it's actually better for you. For one if he teleports far, you can time it right and make Yun perform a Zesshou Hohou, FP version, and attack him as soon as he stops his teleport motion. As for strategies for Dan and Sakura, who needs one? Just beat them up like you would beat up your little brother. Toy with them. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 10. Final Thoughts In conclusion, you should only use Yun if: -You like speedy characters that take skill rather than pounding an opponent. -Like combos in general and rather beat you opponent with 8 hits rather than 1 or 2. -Just think you can own anyone with him. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 11.
