Added Dover to Dragons section. Removed the Exp Needed for levels from the Misc. section. Removed the Rafflesia trick from the Misc. section as it doesn't work. I'm in the process of doing a walkthrough re-write for the guide, you can tell which parts have been done by the different paragraph formatting used. This isn't so much an actual version of the guide as it is a work in progress version, I just haven't been able to get back to the game to play it to see what needs doing and thought I might as well update with what I have for now. Version 4: More enemy info. Added a bit to the PETS, Dragons, Fairy Colony, and Skills sections. More in the Misc. section. Fixed some of the spelling errors throughout the document. New section on characters. Finished the Kokon-Horay. Version 3: More D-Ratio doors. More enemy info. Added to the Dragons, SOL, PETS, Fairy Colony, Skills and Combos, and Misc. sections. Version 2: Started the SOL, PETS, Skills, Misc, Dragons, and Enemies Sections. Started with the D-Ratio doors. Added a bit to the Fairy Colony section. Version 1: Initial release. If you want to send me email, you can do so at your own risk. I have a very bad habit of not responding. Something I'm trying to break, but so far I've been unsuccessful. Another thing you might want to know is, if it isn't in this walkthrough, chances are I don't know about it, so that's another risk you're taking sending me stuff. But whatever, if you do want to send me something, make sure it has a clearly identifiable subject line, something with BoF:DQ or BoFV in it will work fine, just so I know it isn't spam or a virus. Also, if it's not too much trouble, could you please spell things out. 1337 speak and using abbreviations like "ura qt" (taken from a valentine heart, none-the-less) are not as easy to read as one might think. Well, anyways, my email address is leeroy3825@hotmail.com for right now, so send away. ============================================================================= ======================== |Table of Contents | |------------------------| | 1: Characters | | 2: Dragons + | | 3: Walkthrough | | 4: Skills and Combos | | 5: Fairy Colony | | 6: The SOL system | | 7: PETS | | 8: Combat * | | 9: Enemies | |10: Misc. + | |11: FAQ * | |12: Acknowledgements | |------------------------| |* - Section is New | |+ - Section is Updated | ======================== ============================================================================= 1: Characters Welcome to the obligatory "who's who in the game" section. This is where I get to give you all of my biased opinions about the characters and you then get to disagree with them completely and yell at me for being a dodo head. Anyways... There aren't any spoilers in this section other than the fact that the characters that join your team are listed, so if you haven't played the game and are just looking for some general info about the characters and what they're like, this is the section for you. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Main character stats: (covered mainly because the instruction manual didn't) Hp - Hit points, what keep your character alive. The stat that you have to keep track of the most since there is only 1 way to increase them, which is through items. Given the limited inventory space available in the game, you might not always have enough items to keep your hp high. Ap - Ability points, the stat that lets you do things in battle other than just stand there. It regenerates after every round of battle and if you do not use all of them in one turn, the extras will carry over to the next turn, allowing you to have up to double your standard amount. Atk - Attack power, how much damage you can do with your physical attack. The main damage stat for Ryu and Lin, although it seems a bit useless for Nina. Def - Defense, your ability to take hits like a man. Or a woman. Or a little woman with artificial lungs implanted that give you the appearance of having wings. Important for everyone. Mag - Magic, and not just the offensive stuff either. If this stat were only for offensive magic, then it would be useless to 2/3 of the characters in the game (aside from the fact that Atk seems to be useless to one of them anyways). While it does increase the amount of damage Nina does with her magic attacks, the stat also doubles as the defense against magic. The higher your stat, the less damage you'll take from magic damage and the less likely you are to fall victim to status attacks (confuse, bind, etc), making it the second most important stat in the game (tied with defense, and second to HP). Spd - Speed, not the drug or the movie. This determines the order of battle as well as how far you can move in battle. It does not increase your movement speed or evasion (if that even exists). But don't let the fact that it does very little confuse you. You'll be cursing Lin quite a bit for not being faster than she is, while getting very nervous if an enemy happens to go before Nina. Mov - Movement, the only stat that doesn't go up with levels. Determines the distance you can move in battle. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Character Rundowns ------------------------------------- Ryu Ryu has been the main character in the Breath of Fire series ever since it first started. Having the power to transform into various dragons has also been one of Ryu's staples throughout the games, and his relation to those dragons has been at the center of all the games plots. Field Ability: D-Dash D-Dash makes Ryu move at double his running speed and prevents enemies from touching him (thereby preventing battles) at the price of raising his D- Counter a lot more rapidly than normal. Also, while in D-Dash, he cannot swing his sword, open doors, or switch the lead party member. D-Dash is also discussed in the Dragons section, refer to that for more in depth info on it. Stat comparison - how he compares to Nina and Lin HP 1/3 Atk 1/3 Mag 3/3 Mov 2/3 AP 2/3 Def 1/3 Spd 2/3 Stat breakdown HP: 9/10 - Ryu will have the highest amount of HP of anyone else in your party. And since he's the only close range attacker, he's gonna need them. AP: 7/10 - Ryu's AP will be enough for him to get off enough attacks per round to do some powerful combos, but you'll be wishing for more quite often when he gets cut off in the middle of a chain of attacks that could beat a boss. Atk: 9/10 - Definitely the highest of the three characters, if it weren't for Nina's insane magic stat, he would probably be able to deal the most amount of damage of the three. And against enemies with strong magic defense, or strong all-round defense, he will be the hardest hitter. Def: 8/10 - Since he is gonna be the meat shield most of the time and take most of the hits for everyone, it seems only fair that he have one of the best defense figures in the game. Mag: 6/10 - Well, he's got enough of a stat so that he won't be killed in one hit from magic attacks, but it's nothing overly powerful. Spd: 7/10 - He'll never be faster than Nina, but he'll always be faster than Lin. He may be pre-empted by high level enemies, which is pretty much the only thing you have to worry about. Mov: 8/10 - He can get around and hit enemies just fine, but doesn't have as much mobility as Nina. ------------------------------------- Nina Another staple of the Breath of Fire series, Nina has always been the Wyndian princess with wings that teams up with Ryu. Well, this time around she's not a princess (but she's soooooooo cute!), but she still teams up with Ryu. Field Ability: Item Vaccuum Nina opens up her ventilator and draws any items on the field into her. You won't automatically pick them up, they'll all gather in clumps right next to her. The main use for this ability is when you fight enemies that are over space or some other obstacle is preventing you from picking up the items monsters leave behind. Stat comparison - how she compares to Ryu and Lin HP 3/3 Atk 3/3 Mag 1/3 Mov 1/3 AP 1/3 Def 3/3 Spd 1/3 Stat breakdown HP: 4/10 - Nina's HP stat is pitiful. Worse than it usually is. I know she's a mage and a weak little kid, but it's a bit rediculous in this game. Against stronger enemies like Duke Knights and Lords, she'll die in pretty much 1 hit most of the time. AP: 8/10 - Granted, all 3 characters tend to have about the same amount of AP as each other, but Nina's will usually be a bit higher than the others, which is great for setting traps (the most AP hungry skills in the game). Atk: 5/10 - Now, this stat actually goes up enough for you to wonder whether there's a real purpose to it or not. My only speculation on any possible use of this stat are 3 of her skills: the 2 Mirage skills which seem to do less damage to strong defensive enemies than other traps like G-Inferno (see: Duke Lord) and a bit more damage to defensively weak monsters (see: Worm-man), and the Shazam skill, but that one's even more indecisive than the 2 traps. Def: 4/10 - This one is just as sad as her HP stat. In fact, if you don't have either a Bari-type shield on or the Snatch skill equipped on her shield, you're going to need quite a few tonics, especially on boss fights. Mag: 9/10 - Ah... the stat that makes Nina the second strongest character in the game (next to the Wyrm form, that is). Unless a monster is seriously strong on the magic defensives and has no physical defenses whatsoever, Nina will be the hardest hitter on your team, even more so if you make use of monster elemental weaknesses (and you should, you have them listed for you near the bottom of the guide *hint*). Spd: 9/10 - Your fastest character, she would be the fastest character out of everything (monsters included) if it weren't for a few monsters that seem to have a pre-emptive strike speed built into themselves. Mov: 9/10 - Of all 3 characters, Nina actually has to move the least of them, since Lin might need to get more monsters into range and Ryu is a melee fighter. It stands to reason then that she has the greatest mobility of all 3 of them. Why? Movement range is related to the character's speed. Simple enough, right? ------------------------------------- Lin Your third party member and resident gunholic, Lin is one of the most critical characters for your survival. The reason for that is because she can trigger fights with enemies from a distance. When you start going up against the harder enemies later on in the game, this is going to become phenominally important, allowing Nina to set up traps and Ryu build up his AP for massive combos. Lina also has the longest range attack with her Sniper Scope weapon, and when you use skills such as Blow Up! she'll be able to hit almost the entire screen at once. Field Abilities: Lock-on and push-back shot Lock-on works by pressing R1, and will have Lin's gun target the closest enemy to her in her field of vision. You can then move around and/or turn and she will stay locked on to the same enemy, provided you stay within range of her gun. As soon as you fire her gun, she will automatically turn to face the locked on enemy. Push-back shot works by pressing and holding the X button instead of just pressing it quickly to trigger a fight. Energy will then gather around the nozzle of her gun and when you let go of the X button, it will fire and push the enemy back a ways. How far depends on how long you hold down the X button. Stat comparison - how she compares to Ryu and Nina HP 2/3 Atk 2/3 Mag 2/3 Mov 3/3 AP 3/3 Def 2/3 Spd 3/3 Stat breakdown HP: 7/10 - She's got enough so that she won't need constant Med Kits like Nina does. AP: 6/10 - One of Lin's stats that you really wish was higher. Even at some of the higher levels, Lin's AP falls short of Ryu and Ninas', which makes doing long combo chains out of the question for her. Atk: 7/10 - She doesn't hit nearly as hard as Ryu on a consistant basis, but she more than makes up for that with her range and some of her skills (Shatter at a really close range can often beat out Ryu). Another saving grace here is that some enemies seem to be weak to shot attacks (Worm-man) and she can usually take them all down in 2 turns, before they get close enough to hurt you. Def: 6/10 - She can take a hit or 2 before you start to have to worry about her health, but you need to keep her as far away from bosses and big enemies or she's going to be a Tonic guzzler (shouldn't be a problem though since she is a long-range fighter). Mag: 7/10 - Well, she seems to be the most resiliant to status attacks and can walk away from most magic attacks without getting too banged up, so I guess this stat is sufficient. Not like you're really going to have very many chances to test this theory out. Spd: 3/10 - Ugh. That's all you can really say about Lin's speed stat. When I first played through the game I found myself neglecting Lin because of this stat. Most of the time, Lin goes last, after your other characters and most of the monsters. Mov: 4/10 - Ok, this stat is pitiful, but is saved by Lin's long attack range making it so she doesn't have to move as far as Ryu and Nina to get her attacks in. It's still rather annoying when monsters hide on the other side of the area behind obstacles and you have to wait a turn or 2 in order for them to get in the clear so Lin can attack. ============================================================================= 2: Dragons ------------------------------ | Section ToC | |------------------------------| | 2.A: Introduction | | 2.B: The Wyrm form | | 2.C: The Dragons in the game | ------------------------------ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2.A: Introduction As with every other game in the Breath of Fire series, Dragon Quarter once again continues the tradition of having dragons play a central role in the game. Another unwritten tradition in the series is that with each game, the dragon system will evolve to something similar, but different from the last game. This time around, there is only one dragon form for Ryu to assume, much to the dissapointment of many fans. The form, Wyrm, however is incredibly powerful, albeit incredibly limited. As a form of control, to make sure the system isn't abused, Ryu has a D-Counter, which rises every time he uses his dragon abilities (either transforming in battle or using his D-Dash ability while walking around areas). This can be quite annoying since it goes up quickly if you're not careful and has no way to be lowered at all, short of beating the game or using the SOL system. Let me repeat that, *THERE IS NO WAY TO LOWER YOUR D-COUNTER.* Once your D-Counter reaches 100%, you die. You have to either use the SOL system or give up completely. Because of this, you have to ration out how and when you use the dragon power as much as you can throughout the game, so that you can have enough to finish the game in one piece. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2.B: The Wyrm form (not the Kaiser, *sigh*) Normal Abilities: All normal abilities attack for the same amount of damage (~300 without D-Charge), the only differences between them are how they target the enemies. AP D-Coutner Name Cost Cost What it does Vortex 10 1.00% Basic attack, hits one target 1 time. Hurricane 20 1.25% Attacks a Spread of Enemies *NOTE: Uses 1.25% on the D-Counter for each enemy hit. Twister 30 1.50% Hits the enemy twice and knockes them back. --------------------------------------- Special Abilities (access through R2 while in dragon form) D-Counter Name Cost What it does D-Breath Varies The most insane attack in the game, the longer you charge it by holding the O button, the more damage it will deal. This is only limited by the fact that it eats up your D-Counter like water in the desert. D-Charge 2.00% Increases the amount of energy (aka the amount of damage you deal) you produce by up to 10x. Easily one of the best features in the game, using it two to three times will make Twister kill any boss in the entire game with one hit. D-Power You normally start out a battle in x.5 Dragon power, which is why your first D-Charge says x1 power. At the original x.5 power, your normal abilities (Vortex, Hurricane), which state that they're at x2 power, will actually attack at the Wyrm's x1 level. Twister, which states that it attacks at x3 power, will be at x1.5 power. D-Charging D-Power Once you use D-Charge, it will last the entire round unless you use Cooldown and then re-transform into the Wyrm. D-Charge effects the wyrm's base attack level, it is not an add-on like the attacks are. This means that the normal dragon attack values of x2 (x3 for Twister) power will MULTIPLY with the D-Charge power, rather than ADD to it. So basically, if you've got D-Charge x10 (max), you will be doing 20x the dragon's base power for Vortex and Hurricane and 30x base power for Twister, which is why it's so easy to see damage in the tens of thousands with D-Charge that high. I must warn you though that it's unadvisable to charge up to 10x power, since in order to do so, you need to use 20% on your D-Counter. Unless you happen to be on the last boss and you have 70% on the counter or less, you should avoid ever going that high. Usually, if you need to use D-Dive to beat a boss (and there are only a few that you might actually need to), you will have sufficient power to do so with D-Charge at x2, x1 on weaker bosses. --------------------------------------- Normal D-Counter - aka the time limit on the game - Aside from using your D-Counter to use the various Dragon abilities that Ryu has, the D-Counter will go up on its own, even if you're not using your draconic self. - If you stand completely still and don't move, your D-Counter will not go up at all. The same goes for swinging your weapon. If you stand still and swing, it won't go up. - While walking/running around, your D-Counter will go up by .01% every 25 steps or so. - The D-Counter will go up by .01% after each round of battle. Ex turns are not counted in this way. --------------------------------------- D-Dash Ryu's field ability, it speeds him up to about double his normal running speed and prevents enemies from attacking, also knocking them back. If it weren't for the fact that it constantly raises your D-Counter, this would be the best field ability in the game. However, D-Counter is precious and needs to be saved for bosses. The rate you use up D-Counter % is about .10% a second, but the longer you hold it, the faster it will drain you. After holding down R2 for about 5 seconds, it will speed up to .20% a second. If you want to use it in short bursts so you can avoid annoying enemies or get someplace safely if you're low on health go ahead, but make sure to keep an eye on the D-Counter in the upper right corner of the screen. As a little bonus, from when you first get the D-Dash ability to when you gain access to the dragon form, you can use D-Dash freely without raising the D-Counter. Be sure to take advantage of it while you can. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2.C: The Dragons in the game There are 3 Main Dragons in the game (that I know of) and 1 Dragon that plays a (very) minor role: Odjn - Odjn (pronounced either Odin, like the Norse God or Ah-deen as the number 1 in Russian) is the dragon that you see in the beginning of the game, when Ryu and Bosch go to the Genic proccessor. He's the dragon that possesses Ryu and grants Ryu the ability to use dragon powers. Known also as the Destroyer of worlds, Odjn is part of a prophecy that involves mankind reaching the sky again. Elyon - Also known as the Dragon of Life, Elyon is seen in various scenes as an advisor (well, ruler might be a more appropriate term) to the Regents. His appearance is similar to Odjn's, but he has a blue color most of the time, rather than the constant red/orange that Odjn has. Chetyre - Not much is known about Chetyre (pronounced Cheh-tear-ee in Russian, meaning 4). He appears towards the end of the game, but doesn't reveal his intentions other than to try and stop Odjn. Dover - Originally named Dva (prounounced... uh... dvah, Russian for 2) in the Japanese version, this mistranslated dragon is an "Anti-Dragon" dragon whose background is not explained at all in the game. It might be a genic creation designed to defeat Odjn or one of the other dragons or it may be a long lost brother (or sister) who's taken refuge in the depths of the earth. ============================================================================= 3: Walkthrough ***************************************************************************** NOTE: Throughout the walktrhough, I refer to several rooms as kea rooms. This means you must kill all of the enemies in the particular room in order to proceed, which is where I get the kea from (kill 'em all). ***************************************************************************** ------------------------------------ | Section ToC | |------------------------------------| | 3.A: Main Walkthrough | | 3.B: Old TradeSector Optional Area | | 3.C: D-Ratio Areas | ------------------------------------ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.A: Main Walkthrough ***************************************************************************** I am aware that some of the items for this section are not 100% accurate. This is because [from what it appears] items that you get from the white item boxes are random, while items that you get from the yellow boxes are usually (if not always) the same each play through. As far as the red boxes go, well, I have no idea. They always seem to be equipment of some sort. ***************************************************************************** ::Ranger HQ 1F (-980.0m) After the opening game cinematic, go out the door at the top of the screen. Walk through the hall and up the stairs. ::Ranger HQ 2F (-980.0m) Follow the hall to the next room. Talk to the person you were with during the starting cinematic (Bosch) for a scene. After that, leave back to the first hall on this floor and go out the door near the stairs. ::LowSector Junction (-990.0m) Go down the stairs. You can go to the left to the town, where you can buy a few supplies (you're pretty broke right now though), and bait for enemies. You can't afford any weapons right now, so don't bother with that. The person that kinda looks like Momo from Breath of Fire 3 will store items for you, and since you only have 2 pages of inventory right now, that might come in a bit handy. Anyways, when you're done in town (or you just didn't want to go there), go out the door close to the staircase leading to Ranger HQ. ::LowSector Liftport Go down the staircase right in front of you and follow the path for a scene. Bosch will join your party now, after he does, go down the mini-staircase next to you and into the tunnel. ::Lift to Biocorp 1 (-1000.0m) Walk along the path, the white boxes are chests you can attack to open. The first has a Fresh Meat in it, the next one has another Fresh Meat. These are your first traps (unless you bought some in town), which are used to distract enemies so you can avoid them or get the initiative while they're distracted. When you go through the door, there will be a small tutorial on encounters, read it if need be, then get the white box. Go left at the intersection where you are and get the chest there with a Dynamite it. Note that there will be a Duke close by and often out of sight. Bosch should be able to kill the thing in 1 turn, before it has a chance to attack. Go back to the right side. Go to the end of the passage and in the small room for a white box, then back to the left side. Go to the end of the tunnel and watch out for the next enemy (you can use the Dynamite/Fresh Meat to get acquainted more with traps if you want), and go through the door at the end. You'll get a small turorial on the PETS system now, then there's a fight to use. Thrown a piece of meat into the pack and then charge them, the fights are still relatively easy. Get the key and another tutorial will appear. Go through the door at the end and in the next room, go west to the chest, which opens with the key you just got. It will be a skill for you (Steal). Watch the tutorial, then go to the north side of the room. Ignore the enemies for now and go through the door oppossite where you came in. Follow the path back to the first room you were in and get the Save Token in a chest. Go back to where the monsters still are and fight them. If you can seperate one from the pack and fight it alone, that would be best, since they're less holstile by themselves. Once all 3 are gone, get the chest with an Escape in it, sitting all alone in the middle of the landing, then go to the east wall and get the chests there with: 1x Bomb, 400z, and a Heal Kit. Now, go through the West door. Talk to the person standing around for some game info if you want, then get on the elevator. ::Lift to Biocorp 2 Go east through the door and past the 2 dead things, through the next door and make sure you throw some meat for the creature there. It's a Deathcow, and a rather hard enemy to fight right now. If you have steal on Ryu, you can steal Wild Swing from him. After/If you beat him get the key for the chest nearby, which is a skill (Side Slash). Go through the door and cross the bridge, the kid is there who explains stuff, he'll explain skills now if you want. When you're done learning (or you don't want to bother) go through the door and get the next White box. At the end of the path, there are more white boxes to get, so get them and go up to the platform and through the door. Go North and get the 2 white chests, then through the door near those chests and down the lift. ::Lift to Biocorp 3 (-1040.0m) Go out the door and see the small traps tutorial. Go south for the white box, then you get to make your way through about 8 bats. Start out by gathering them together with some meat, then throwing dynatmite into their midst. This will weaken them a little (not a large amount, but enough so they can be all killed in one or so turns). Don't use all your traps though, you'll need them. Once the bats are dealt with, head South to the next room, then get the boxes. Keep going south. ::Lift to Biocorp 3 (-1040.0m) To the left are 3 Hychees that will confuse you in battle, but also die in one hit from just about anything. In fact, you can kill them just by kicking them as Bosch or hitting them with Ryu's sword. Remember these things, they leave behind healing items when they die, so you'll want to make sure and kill them at all chances. Going south to the dead end puts you against a Mama Nugget. Fight it and it's kids if you want (she's pretty hard at this point in the game, so you might not want to) and get the box at the end of the corridor, otherwise go through the door. Get the white box between the two doors, and go though the Western door and get the box there, then go back to the other door and follow that path to a "Danger Room," which is basically a room where you have to fight all the enemies, you can't just avoid them. (These rooms are here on out referred to as kea rooms.) Take out the baddies one (or two) at a time to make things easier on yourself. You can steal Ogre Slice from them if you're lucky. After they're taken down, get the key that appears, then the chest with Kick in it. Now, go up to the platform where the key was and through the door. ::Lift to Biocorp 3 (-1040.0m) The explanation kid is there again, explaining controls and how to change them. Go through the door and walk along the corridor through the doors. After the 3rd one is a fight with a Nugget, but you can kill it in one EX round, so don't worry. Keep going south to the next room and get on the lift. ::Approach South (-1020.0m) Go through the door and follow the path ::Genic Processor (-1020.0m) Watch the scene, then go through the door. When you go a certain distance down the walkway, there will be another scene. When you're in control again head to the door near where you are. ::Approach West (-1010.0m) The kid is there explaining running away if you want. Regardless, go through the door at the north and up the elevator. ::Genic Accumulator (-1000.0m) Follow the path, save if you want, then keep going. When you get to a choice of either a door you open (heads east) or a door that opens for you (heads north), go through the door east and follow it to 3 white boxes. Go back and through the door that opens for you. Follow the path to a lab like area with caged monsters. There are a bunch of the little worms in here for you to get Med Kits from (which you probably need at this point). In the next room is an AP Plus and 40xp, in the white boxes. In the next area are a bunch of Nuggets for you to fight. If you want to fight the Mama Nugget you can, but you don't have to. If you do fight her, make sure to get the yellow box with a Panacea in it on the north wall of the room. Leave the room through the East door. The arsenal person will be here, so you can do some stuff with her, then go through the north door. ::Biocorp Liftport (-1000.0m) Watch the scene. ::Biocorp Lift (-1000.0m) Another scene. ::Old Waste Shaft 1F (-1200.0m) That was one hell of a fall... Bosch is gone from your party now, in case you didn't notice. When you're moving again, go right. The explanation kid is there (somehow) to explain exp and camera movement. Go through the door. ::Old Waste Shaft 2F (-1200.0m) In the middle of the room is a white box. There's a blue treasure box around, but you don't have the key yet, so ignore it and go through the door to the west. In the next area is a scene, then a boss (sorta). Boss: Cyclops HP: 440 Exp: 70 Steal: Ogre Slice Another scene afterwards. Then Nina will join you and you'll get a mini- tutorial on D-Dash. When you're in control again, go through the west door. There will be an explanation of Nina. After that, go forward. There are 2 little enemies that will run from you and a red box. There's a couple spider enemies here, one of them will drop the key to the blue chest back in the other room. Get that for an unknown shield, then go back to where the spiders were. Go through the western door first (the one that doesn't open for you), and get the treasure inside the chests. Go back and through the south door this time, and through the door in that area. Follow the corridor, after the curve are a few spiders. It's probably better to just D-Dash past them, rather than fight them. In the next room, go up the ladder. ::Old Waste Shaft 3F (-1190.0m) Go through the door and follow the corridor to the next room where there will be 10xp, 70xp, and 240z in yellow boxes. Get them and go through the northern door. There will be 3 more yellow boxes with 40xp, 300xp, and 70xp in them. Get those and go back, through the southern door this time for a scene. Lin will join you and you'll get another page to your item screen, then there will be another scene. After the scenes, go through the east door. There's a tutorial on Lin, watch it and go east. There's a goo in the corner, fight or ignore it, then go through the door leading north. There's a box with 200xp in it. Watch out for the hermits, they can surprise you fairly easily. They look just like normal yellow boxes too, so be careful. The easiest way to sniff them out is to throw some meat in front of them and watch for them to move, then attack. They have a really high physical defense for this point in the game, meaning Ryu and Lin probably won't be able to hurt them at all, so have Nina cast a few circles, and then have Lin knock them back into those circles. Keep going north into the next room, then up the ladder. ::Old Waste Shaft 4F (-1180.0m) Go into the next room and watch out for the bind spider that's right at the door. There will be a total of 8 you have to fight, and then there will be a scene. Watch that, then go north. There are some Ratphages around near the white boxes, take them out and take the treasure. The door on the north is a D-Ratio door, so don't worry about it for right now, just keep going west to the next room. There will be a bunch of spiders in this area, along with some babyrat phages, so do your best to get through them (Nina's skills are the best way to go at this point). Get the boxes and keep going to the next door. In this room are a bunch of Worker Ants. Fight or ignore them, whichever you want, then keep going. In the corner is a box with an unknown armor in it, get that and keep going to the next area. Go down to the lower area to get the chest with an unkown armor for Lin, then through the door to the east (the knowledge kid is there too) and up the ladder. ::Old Waste Shaft 5F (-1170.0m) Through the door, there's an area with a bunch of Hychees for you to get Heal Kits from, as well as a box to the south for looting. There's a confused DeVolve (FYI, all DeVolves in the game start out confused) at the corner, attack him or avoid him with Ryu's D-Dash. The door all the way north is another D-Ratio door, so ignore it for now, the west path is a box with an unknown armor for Lin, and the east path has another white box. Go back to the southern east path and to the door. The north door in here is also a D-ratio door, ignore it and go east. At the corner is an Odd Hychee, these will give you a Mega Aid Kit (which will turn into a Trauma Kit if you hit them with fire), but you have to fight them (they're still not that hard though). Past that just keep going north to the ladder. ::Old Waste Shaft 6F (-1160.0m) In the next room, the box near the door you come out of has 120z in it, get that and then go north. Watch out for the Hermit, but do kill it, it has Jolt for Nina. Get that, then get white box. Through the door that opens for you is a 3 way intersection. First, go through the door to the east. Well, first you have to fight the DeVolve, or run through it with Ryu. Once you're through the door, just get the box. Back at the intersection, take the west door this time. Examine the corpse that's still moving a bit and a whole bunch of babyratphages will show up. Dispose of them for some fairly easy exp and items, plus the key to this level's chest, then go through the door leading north. Follow this to a box and the chest with Lin's There! skill. That's all that's here, go back to the intersection and through the north door. Get the chests in here, one's near the ramp and the other's to the northwest in the first area. There are some chests being blocked by ants, but the ants still run away from you when you get near them. If you beat all of the little ants in here, a Queen Ant will show up. The easiest way to beat it is to set up 3 bombs right next to each other and then have Ryu D-Dash the thing into them, then have him pick the fight. During his EX turn, have him ignite one of the bombs, and they should all go off, dealing an easy 300+ damage to the thing. After that, just have him use Deathbringer, and during the normal turn, have Nina either use Jolt, or set up a fire circle or 2 behind the thing, and have Lin or Ryu push it into them. If you do it right, this battle will be over in one round and you won't take any damage at all (which is good because this thing casts Fireblast on a regular basis). Once the big Ant is disposed of, go through the north door. Get the boxes in the corners, but don't worry about the monsters on the wall, they aren't active/real/whatever. Go through the door to the north to get to EndSector Borough. ::EndSector Borough (-1160.0m) The first thing you should take notice of across the wooden bridge is the telecorder, the first one you've seen for a while. There's the arsenal person here too, so make sure to identify all the items you've been collecting in that last dungeon. The shops are all the way right and up the stairs, don't forget to stock up on healing items. Once you're set, go past the arsenal person and through the door at the top. ::EndSector Liftport (-1150.0m) Watch the scene. Have fun in the fight, it's rather impossible to lose. Just make sure you don't increase the % in the upper right corner by too much. If Lin has the Steal skill on her shield, you can get some weapons and zenny from the henchmen, and a lot of zenny and Ryu's Fang skill from Bosch. Another scene after. ::Lift: LowSector 1 (-1140.0m) Right behind where you start, on the north wall, are 2 white boxes. The southwest area has a box with a save token and an item shop. The kid who gives out info will be there and tell you about skill combos. On the other side of the railing in the middle part of the area are 2 boxes. When you're ready to go on, go to the northeast door. ::Lift: EndSecotor 1 (-1150.0m) Go through the down and down off the platform, to the north wall for a chest with an unknown armor for Lin. Go through the door to the south, fight the enemy there, get the 900z from the box, and go back up to the big intersection area. ::Lift: LowSector 1 (-1140.0m) This time, go through the Northwest door. ::Lift: EndSector 1 (-1150.0m) There are a bunch of bugs here, but you're on the platform so you've got a slight advantage. On the lower area all the way west are some boxes with 70xp and 20xp in them. Get them and go east. In here are 2 boxes with a Heal Kit and an Antidote in them. Get those and keep going. In the next area is a large number of lampbats, but they're still just as weak as they were at the beginning of the game so, really, these are just quick exp and fire traps. Once they're all dead the treasure key will emerge, but you have to go around east to get it. After you get it, go through the east door. There are 2 Big Ox things here, which are pretty tough, but managable. The bigger one is easily paralyzed, so if Nina has the Thor Hammer, just cast Joltball in front of it and it will pretty much never get a turn. The smaller one casts something that will immobilize you, so you might want to make sure Ryu has the EX turn so he can get into position before becoming stationary (either that or you have some loosefoots or whatever they're called). Anyways, behind them is the chest, which has the Joltball skill for Nina, which means you don't need the staff for it anymore. Good, now go back west. Through the door in the southwest is a box with 60xp in it, and another with an Armor Boost. If you keep going west, you'll be back at the EndSector Borough. Do what you want here, then go all the way back to the LowSector 1 junction. ::Lift: LowSector 1 (-1140.0m) Take the Southeast door this time. ::Lift: LowSector 2 (-1130.0m) Follow this to the an open area with a bunch of Dukes on a platform you can't get to. You can fight them here if you want, but some of their attacks are ranged, so you still have to be a bit careful. Once they're all dead, the treasure key for this floor will materialize, but you can't get it yet. Instead, go through the door to the south. In the next area are 4 Dukes waiting for you, but you can lure them to you one at a time for an easier set of fights. There's 360xp at the southern end of the tunnel in a box, get that and go up on to the platform and through the door to the east. In this area is a fight with a ninja type thing, and a Duke Battler that's sleeping. If you want to fight it go ahead, it's a tough cookie, but you can steal a Counter skill from it. Otherwise sneak around it. The boxes have a Bomb, some zenny, a footloose, and 100xp. Go through the north door, this will take you to the platform where the key and chest are, but the treasure that the Duke's left will all be gone. The chest has Lin's Blow Up!, so get that and go back to the room with the Big Duke in it (or not if you killed the guy). Take the Southeast door. ::Lift: LowSector 3 (-1120.0m) Follow the path south to a room where there are some spiders (Black Widows and Bind Spiders). In the area behind the counter are a couple boxes, one with a longfoot, the other with 400xp. There's also a goo back here, so take it out. Once the goo is dead, the treasure key for this level will materialize. The boxes on the other side of the counter (in the main area of the room) have an Armor Boost and a Bomb in them. Either way you go (Southeast or Southwest), it leads to the same place. The boxes on the east only have a wake up in them, but the blue chest is there also, with a Rust Armor skill in them for Ryu. Keep going south after you've gotten the items to the next area. ::Lift: LowSector 4 (-1130.0m) Get the Wake Up and Armor Boost from the nearby boxes, then head east for an Antidote in a box. Get that and go across the bridge to a door. In this next area are a bunch of the small worms that give you Heal Kits. There are also a couple boxes in the Northwest corner with 120z, an Aid Kit, and a Tonic. In the Northwest part is an Odd Hychee that gives a Mega Aid Kit (or a Trauma kit if you hit it with Fire), and another Duke Battler. Through the door is another Odd Hychee and a Duke. The next room is one of those where you have to kill everything. There's 2 Duke Magi and 2 Duke Battlers here. The box in the northeast corner is a Save Token, the one in the south east corner is 120z, and the one in the southwest corner is 200z. Once you beat everything, the treasure key will appear, this gets you a Backpack, which adds a page to your inventory. The next room to the south is an elevator up. Watch the scene on the way up. ::LowSector Borough (-1000.0m) Recognize where you are? Good, you should. Save on the higher area if you want to. You can't go back to Ranger HQ though, so don't even bother. If you have the money, you may want to buy the Antenna for Nina, that'll give her a lvl 2 skill, Lightning. Stock up on some healing items as well if you need to, then go down the stairs next to the item shop. ::CorpLab Entrance (-1010.0m) Go south, and in the first door you come acroos (the southeast one). There are 3 boxes in here, with an aid kit and 2 antidotes to be had. Get them and then head over to the southwest door. Watch the scene as you try to enter. When given the option, choose to open the door. You'll meet a fairy and she'll talk to you for a bit, then give you access to the fairy village. This is a mini-game that's been part of the BoF series since #3. Well, you might as well start by hiring all 3 ants nearby and then put them on excavations. What you do here is up to you, this mini-game is totally optional, but can have many bonuses throughout the game for you, so it's worth it to keep it maintained. Anyways, once you're done here, select leave, and you'll go back to the dungeon. You'll get the Fairy Drops, which let you go back to the colony whenever all the monsters are kaputted. Anyways, go back to the main intersection and take the east door. Follow the path to another door that is locked and will have an emergency sign posted. Go back to LowSector. ::LowSector Borough (-1000.0m) Watch the scene, then you're fighting. Chances are you're going to get poisoned, but there's nothing you can do about it right now, just have Nina set up some Magic circles and stay back, let Lin use Blow Up!, and have Ryu go straight at their mage. You can get some pretty good items from the fight and quite a bit of zenny, so make sure to leave the steal skill on your shields. Watch the scene afterwards. There's an id card next to the Biocorp entrance, get that and go down. ::CorpLab Entrance (-1010.0m) Take the east door and watch the scene, then go to the security door. In the next area, there's the shops and identifier standing around in the west area. Do what you need to with them, then go htrough the nearby door. ::CorpLab 1F (-1010.0m) Go east first to the next area. The southeast door is a D-Ratio door, so don't bother with it yet. Instead, go into the lab area in the middle and through the west door in there. There are boxes here with 60xp, a Vaccine, and Dynamite. Get them and go back to the entranceway, and go west to that door. There's another lab inset here, the boxes have an eyedrops in them, and there's a goo plasma blobbing around (do NOT use lightning against it, that will heal the thing). Take it out if you want, there's a chance it will drop a Plasma Maser for Ryu, which is a good weapon, but it doesn't allow his deathbringer skill, so you may not want it. The door in this area is just plain locked, so ignore it and go back to the main area, and keep going to the next door and take the elevator up. ::CorpLab 2F (-1000.0m) follow the tunnel to the next lab area. In here, go south into the small area and get the box with a confushroom in it, then go back north then east to the door at the end of the tunnel. Go into the small lab area here and get the boxes with a Heal Kit, Fresh Meat, then go through the door west. In this area are a bunch of Hychees, and an Odd (big) one on the ceiling. Kill them all and get the box with 120z in it, and don't forget to take notice of the blue chest, although you can't get it yet. Go back through the door that opens for you and through the door to the south. There will be a bunch of little bees here, take them out and keep going south. In the next area is a box with a Magic Boost in it, through the door south is a Patroller you can fight, take him out (Ryu can do it in an EX turn) before he calls for backup, then go to the end of the passage and get the box with an unkown armor for Ryu. In the door to the west (where you would be if you had taken the other path south to this area) is a Rafflesia, watch out for it though, the more you hit it with magic, the more it powers up. If you played Breath of Fire 3 or 4, then you know about this type of monster (think Lavoid, Lavaman, Bot). Once they're dead the treasure key will materialize, so go back to that and get the Roundsaber skill for Ryu, then go back to where the Rafflesias were. Go through the door all the way southeast. There will be a bouncer near the door, have Lin shoot him so you're not in the fight with the Patroller standing around as well. They can drop Nina's Lightning skill, so they're worth fighting. There are a whole bunch of bouncers around the corner, so make sure you don't get surprised by accident. Beat them all, then go down the elevator in the next room. ::CorpLab 1F (-1010.0m) Follow this path to a room with a bunch of Goo Plasma and Goo Rubys in it, which is also a "kill 'em all" room. MAKE SURE RYU DOES NOT HAVE THE PLASMA MASER ON. Put the Pyromania on Nina and have her use flare (if you have it, if not, the Goo Rubys will drop it for you) on the Plasmas to weaken them. Have Ryu and Lin attack as they normally would. Once they're all dead the treasure key will show up. Pick that up then go into the room to the west. There's a big monster here (Armstrong) and the blue chest has Nina's Blunt skill. If you want to fight the thing, make sure to set up a bomb trap and have Ryu trigger it during his EX turn. This thing has a really high attack power and defense, so make sure you use Nina's blunt skill on him. Really though, Nina's the only one who can deal actual damage to him right now, so have Ryu and Lin act as meat shields and guard her while she uses Lightning to kill it. Once it's dead go back to the second floor. ::CorpLab 2F (-1000.0m) If you did some exploring earlier, you should notice that there's an up elevator directly north from where you are, although you have to go a bit out of the way to get to it. Enter the southwest door and then go north until you can't anymore, then go east through 2 doors, one you open, the other opens for you. If you want to go back to the entrance and save/shop, do that now, otherwise, go south to the elevator and up. ::CorpLab 3F North (-990.0m) Go through the first door to a corridor and walk down that. Notice that there's a Goo Plasma on the ceiling right around the corner. Avoid or fight it, it's your choice. Directly through the next door are 3 more Goos, one of which is the Goo Sapphire, who has the Frost skill for Nina on it. Once you kill all of the Goos a couple of Kanaphages will show up. These are easy monsters to beat that will give you lots of z for killing them. But beware, they run away at any and all chances, so make sure to have Nina get the EX turn and hit them with Lightning before they can run away. When everything is dead, head out west. There are some boxes in this room, with 1000z, 150z, a Confushroom, and a Wake Up. Get them and go south. ::CorpLab 3F South (-990.0m) First, go south as far as you can to get the Bomb and Vaccine from the boxes, then go in the east door. There will be a Queen Buzz along the path, have Lin trigger the fight with her, then do a shot combo (Hey Hey, There, and Stay Here!) to keep her from moving and you're all set for the fight. Do the same with the next one and you won't have any problems at all. Go through the door east, and then head south to the 2 doors. Take the West one. Get the boxes on the other side of the door for an unkown armor for Lin and 600xp. Head back to the other side of the bridge and go south this time. Go around the corner doors and in the next room go in the door that opens for you. Watch the scene. After the scene go in the door to the east and follow that to the next elevator. ::CorpLab 4F (-980.0m) Follow the corridor south then west to the next room, where there are a couple of Patrollers walking around. One of them will leave the room on his own, but you still have to fight the other. Fight whoever, then go to the next room. Fight the bouncers in here if you killed the patrollers earlier, then keep going north. Same thing as the last room, fight if need be, then continue north. The side room in here to the east has a patroller, as well as some boxes with 80z, a Tonic, and an Aid Kit. In the southeast corner of this room is a Goo Prism. Beat it and the treasure key for this level will materialize. Get everything in here, then go back to the hallway where there is a side room to the north and get the chest in there with a Backpack (another page in inventory! wahoo!). Head back to where you got the key and continue north. There are a bunch more bouncers in this area if you killed the patrollers, so make your way through them to the east. This is the last batch of enemies you'll be fighting before you get to the elevator, which is further to the east and then south. ::CorpLab 5F (-970.0m) Walk through the next area and go into the side room that has boxes with a Wake Up, a Save Token, and a Tonic, then continue west. Head all the way west in the next room to the door in the southwest. The shops, arsenal, and save are in this area, use them if need be then go back to the main hall. Make sure you've got some Ice resistance equipment before you set out, you will need it. The electric weapons will also help out a bit as well. When you're set, go north through the doors to another area. Get the nearby boxes for an Aid Kit and a Heal Kit. The next box near the northwest door has 50xp in it, get that then go through the next door to get to a ladder. ::Frozen Road 1F (-960.0m) Everything in this next area is weak to Lightning/Electricity, so it may be worth it to lose your level 3 skills for Ryu/Lin so you can deal the added damage. Head west to the blue door room, where there will be a few GarPikes waiting. Fight them (you can get Ryu's Thrust skill from them). Further in the room is a GarSniper, who has Lin's Blow Up skill if you forgot it earlier. The boxes in the next room have 1200z and some Weapons for Lin. In the next room to the north will be a couple Goo Sapphires surrounded by some Drill Plugs. The boxes in the middle of this area have Dynamite and Fresh Meat, get them and go in the door to the east. There will be a bunch of Aggrossers in this area, about 7, and a couple FroGressors, so have Lin trigger them and use Blow Up! to start things off, then have Nina do her Lightning thing. When they're all gone the treasure key will materialize, so get that and the chest nearby with Lin's Greetings skill. Get it and go back to the big area west, then north to the ladder up. ::Frozen Road 2F (-950.0m) In the next area, you should notice a really big box to the north. Get the smaller ones first. The one to the right is a Jack-Box, whose prize is zenny that keeps going up the longer you let it live. You can keep checking it's profile with Lin if you really want to, otherwise just kill it quick. Now, the big box is, well, a Big Jack-Box, who basically works the same way, only he has more HP and more zenny to give. Beating all of them will get you the treasure key for this floor. Get that and continue east. In the next area, you can ignore the numerous enemies standing around, or you can fight them for treasure. The boxes in the lower area all have an Armor Boost and Confushroom on the left and a save token past the DeathCows. Up there is also the chest, which has the shield skill Feint. Get everything, then go into the room to the north and up the ladder. ::Frozen Road 3F (-940.0m) Walk along the ice path to the east, and you'll be in a larger room again. There are 4 Goo Sapphires here, along with an Ice Goo. Beat them and the treasure key will show up, then get the boxes up on the small deis with 400z and 1800z. After you do that, go in the door to the north. There are a bunch of Drillbugs in this area, as well as a BugLeader. If you want to fight them all, make sure to take out the leader first, then go after the smaller Bugs. You can get the shield skill Leech Power from the leader, which is a common drop. Once they're dead you get access to the chest, which has an unknown weapon for Lin in it. Get it and head east to the next room. This is a Kea (Kill 'em all) room, so trigger the enemies one at a time if you can, letting Lin get the EX turn. Once everything in here is dead, there will be a scene. Make sure you get any items that drop before you kill the last enemy, they all dissapear after the scene. After the scene, continue north to a ladder. ::Frozen Road 4F (-930.0m) In the first area after the ladder are a bunch of boxes. They're all Jack Boxes, as is the really big box, which is a (surprise) Big Jack Box. Fight what you want to then head north. In the lowered section of this area are a bunch of Hychees, and there are also 3 Odd Hychees on the ceiling. Kill the and take the door west. The two boxes nearby have an HP Plus and a Proximity Bomb in them, and the one to the north has 160xp in it. You may also have noticed there are quite a few Beaks. Take them all out (try to get them one at a time and it shouldn't be too hard to do) to get the treasure key. It opens the chest in the room to the north, which has Nina's Fragball skill. Get that and go south. The box in this area has an unknown armor for Lin in it. Once you get that go back across the bridge and into the northeast door. Through the blue door, the boxes have 120z and 80xp, get those. There's also the item shop and the arsenal person in this area, as well as a save spot. Go through the door to the north and up the elevator, once you're done. ::Storage (-900.0m) Make sure you're equipped right, there's about to be a boss fight. Walk down the path and take the west branch, there will be a scene when you get close to the door. After that, a fight. You'll fight 3 Battler Capns, a Lead Battler, 3 Gunner Capns, and a Lead Gunner. If you want to make things easy on yourself, just use D-Dive, otherwise move everyone to the top of the screen you you're not surrounded, after that you can have fun and let Nina use traps while Lin pushes/pulls them into them, or you could just make the enemies group together and use area skills like Fireblast and Blow Up! on them. Anyways, once they're done with, there's another small scene, then another fight against an Asimov. It takes extra damage from cold, so make sure you're equipped properly (remember those cold weapons you got from enemies throughout the last dungeon? good). All it does is call out annex minions until it starts getting low on HP, then it will use skills like Push and Press, but it's nothing all that bad. Once you get it down to 1 HP, it will start to self destruct. Use this time to get the hell away from it. Ignore the little annex's, just get the hell away. Once it self destructs, the battle will be over and there will be a scene to watch. And then... Another fight. This time it's against Zeno and 2 Mage Capns. Boss: Zeno Lv: 56 HP: 1600 Steal: V, Valor Drop: nothing (well, she drops a Violet Blade) Elements Fire: 100% Ice: 100% Electric: 100% Information: The speed of her attacks and the power of her blade skill, Violet Death, are impressive to behold. Boss Lackey: Mage Capn Lv: 31 HP: 580 Steal: ? wand for Nina+2, 450z Drop: nothing Elements Fire: 100% Ice: 100% Electric: 100% Information: Depending on the situation, either supports Zeno or attacks the party himself. - Take out the Capns first, they're more annoying, and will heal Zeno anyways. - If you don't want to fight the Capns for some reason, you don't have to, when you defeat Zeno, the fight is over. - She's got the shield skill Valor on her, so be sure to get that during the fight. - When she gets to about 1/2 her HP, she'll cast Last Resort and start using her Violet Death skill. When she finally goes down, there will be another scene, then you're in control again. You can pick up Zeno's sword if you want (and you should, it's a good sword). You may want to go back to the shop/arsenal to heal and restock on healing items, so do that if you want, then take the door in the northwest corner of where you fought Zeno. The boxes in here have 1600z, a Trauma Kit, 2 Save Tokens, and a shield for Ryu. If you chose not to kill the Mage Capns during the fight with Zeno, they'll be in the room to the southwest now, take them on if you want. After you get all that, go in the middle west door and follow that to a ladder up. ::IndustOne 1F (-890.0m) Go through the 2 doors and you'll see a glassed out area with a Bandit inside. Fight him and get the box next to him with an unknown shield for Ryu, then go down the stairs. There's another bandit and 3 HighwayStars for you to fight. The HighwayStars will pick up items on the field (ie traps), so watch out for that if you leave anything valuable lying around. Other than that there isn't all that much to worry about. You can purposefully leave junky items (like the Steal skills Bandits leave behind) to distract the HighwayStars if you want to, but it's not really neccessary since they're rather easy to defeat. At the fork in the road, take the upper path to the northwest door where there are 4 Odd Hychees waiting for you. Get those and take the lower path to the southwest door, follow that past the next door and a blue door to a room with 5 moth-type enemies floating around in the middle (4 Ebonfires and a Baphomet). It's worth it to let the Baphomet hit you a few times so you can steal from it, then equip your Ice weapons and let loose. Just make sure you steal from it before you kill the Ebonfires, once you do that the Baphomet will no longer attack you. The boxes in this area have an Aid Kit, 60xp, a Heal Kit, and an AP Plus. Get them and continue west to the next room with an elevator. ::IndustOne 2F West (-880.0m) Follow the path across a bridge and turn south before the door to get 80z, an Escape, and Fresh Meat from the boxes. Inside the second blue door are a couple Capeks. If you steal their Battery Packs they become little more than paperweights. The blue chest in this area is actually a Wonderbox, which works like the Jack-Boxes, only this gives you various items. That is, if you let it explode. If you take it to within a millimeter of it's life, then it will drop a Gold XP for you, which increases the amount of xp you get after battle by 5% for each you have. Very worth it. The door to the south is a D-Ratio door, so don't worry about it, take the door to the east, as well as the next one. ::IndustOne 2F East (-880.0m) Go east to the next room, there will be a bunch of enemies in here, including Capeks and Petrophages. The petrophages are weak to fire and have the Shield Explosion skill on them, so get that while you can. If they use Twin Strike on you, you're pretty much dead, so watch out for that. Once all the enemies are gone the Treasure key will materialize, get that and the boxes with 2000z, and an Aid Kit, then continue east. In the next area, there is a FireGoo (nothing worth stealing on him) with 2 Goo Rubys guarding the blue chest, which has Lin's Let's Dance! skill in it. If you stay on the walkway outside the room where the Blue chest is, there's a Protein right behind the chest on the other side of the glass. Go across the bridge and hit the box to get it out of the way, then continue across. Down the stairs in the southwest corner is a box with an Aid Kit. There are also a couple more Petrophages in here if you couldn't get Explosion earlier, as well as a couple Goo Rubys and a Bandit. The boxes in the middle of that area have a total of 200xp for you, get that and go through the door in the southeast corner. In this next area, take the path all the way to the southwest corner, where a HighwayStar will be next to a box with an unknown armor for Nina. Take the path north of that one to the door, but watch out for the 2 Petro- phages sitting at the door. Keep going west. ::IndustOne 2F West (-880.0m) Head to the southwest door. There are a bunch of Petrophages and Bandits for you to fight if you want. The box in the middle east walkway has a Save Token in it, the box directly south of that one has a JuJu, and the boxes along the south wall have 220z total. In the next room west is the elevator up. ::IndustOne 3F (-870.0m) A Kea room, it's more Ebonfires and Baphomets. After the fight(s) will be a scene. When that's over, take the eastern exit. The boxes in the south- west corner of this room have a Fresh Meat and 160z. Continue going east. There are a bunch of Capeks in this area, take them out and the treasure key will materialize in the northwest room, which is also where the chest containing Nina's Fireball skill. The room directly south of the chest room has 4 Proximity Bombs, and the room all the way south has 2 Firebombs in it. The 3rd room from the top leads to the next area and also has an unkown weapon for Lin in it. Keep going east to get to the elevator up. ::IndustTwo 1F (-860.0m) Heal up and explore the area. Check the dead bodies in the control room to the east, then go down to the lower area and talk to the only thing standing (don't bother putting up traps, they won't be in the battle), then there will be a fight against Tantra, who has 1000 HP. If you've got multimeds or Wake Ups, have them handy, you'll need them. You can get Lin's C'mere! skill from him, but that's about it. Ryu's Deathbringer skill is the best way to go against him, especially if you put it 4th or 5th in a combo chain (obviously you'll have to let him power up for a turn, which won't be a problem if he get's put to sleep). He's really not that hard, just make sure you stay healed whenever possible. After is another scene. Get the IndZone2 ID from where he was standing. You now have a choice. You can go through the door either to the north or south, or you can do both of them. Follow whichever to an elevator up. North. ::IndustTwo 2F North (-850.0m) In the next area will be a Kea room, where you fight against Deegon. He has really strong counter attacks, so watch out. He's also weak to Ice, so make use of Nina's Ice skills and your Cold weaponry. Also make sure you've got some Mutimeds and Tonics available, you'll probably need them. All you can steal from him is an Afro, which isn't all that worth it, so keep defensive skills on your shields. If you read the description of him, it says stay close to him, but that's pretty much the last thing you want to do here. I kept Ryu in close and he never got a chance to act, and had to resurrect him twice. There's a quick scene when he dies, then the key for this floor's chest drops, which is Lin's Too Slow!! skill. Skip to IndustTwo 3F -------------------- ::IndustTwo 2F South (-850.0m) The first room is a Kea room, with a Geegagis in it. It's weak to Ice, so make use of your frost weaponry and Nina's Ice skills. Also, if you've got skills like Lin's Take This!, you'll be able to deal more damage since he's got a really high defense. He leaves the key to the chest for this floor, which is Ryu's Spirit Charge skill. Get it and keep going east for a few rooms to the elevator. There aren't any enemies here, so don't worry about that. -------------------- ::IndustTwo 3F (-840.0m) If you came up from the north, the boxes in the first area have 450z, an Armor Boost, and a Fresh Meat in them. Inside the blue door, the boxes have 180z and a Magic Boost. Through the next door the boxes have an HP Plus, a Save Token and an Unknown sword for Ryu. If you came up from th south, the boxes will have zenny, an AP Charge, and some xp (I think, I can't remember right now). Whichever way you took, when you go to the middle area of the level, there will be a scene and a fight. Tantra is one hell of a pain in the ass this time around. He's got 800 HP for each villain inside him (meaning 1600 if you fought one of them and 2400 if you fought both). He also has the special characteristics of all 3 (or 2 if you left one of them alone). With Geegagis he'll have really high defense and use the Take That! skill every now and then. With Deegon he counters just about anything that's close range and has even more status ailment attacks. If you don't want to use D-Dive, the best way to take him on is to charge your AP the first round to save up for combo attacks, and keep everyone seperated so they can't all be hit at the same time by his attacks. If you want, you can have Nina and Lin stay on the other side of the fences and attack from there, using Ryu as the "take all the hits like a man" guy. Once he's dead and you've gotten all the items to be found up here, go through the east door. NOTE: If you chose not to fight one of the other cohorts, there will be a Goo Element in their place that has the key to that levels chest. ::MidSector Mall (-840.0m) Finally a break from all the fighting. First things first though, go find the arsenal dealer to identify all these weapons and armor you've been finding. The only weapon really worth pointing out is the SniperScope+1 for Lin. Do whatever, save if you like, then go all the way to the end of the area and up the stairs for a scene. ::MidSector Borough (-830.0m) Nothing to do here, just go across the broken bridge to the next area. ::Old TradeSector A (-840.0m) Go into the next area. There is a worm-man behind the glass on the east side, but watch out, he can still start a fight with you from there if you get close. Also in the east side room is another worm man and a Bandit hanging from the ceiling along the west wall, just inside the room. In the middle hallway is a Zombie, they take a lot of damage from Fire, so use that to your advantage. The boxes here have 120z and a Trauma Kit. The box in the west corner has 1800z in it. Now, you may have noticed the zombies are saying something like "Zombie will only vanish when its host does." kinda thing, right? That basically means no matter how many times you kill them right now, they'll keep coming back. Yes you could use this as a source of infinite exp, but it'd be rather annoying to do so since they only give 35xp per kill. Well, whatever, leave to the east and follow that path north. In the next open area are a few more zombies and 3 Broken Hearts. Kill the broken hearts and you'll be able to take out the zombies permanently. Well, not yet. You have to take out all of the broken hearts floating around this level for that to happen. The boxes here have 120xp, a Med Kit, and a Confushroom. Get them and continue to the next room, where there's a Bandit very close to the entrance waiting to ambush you. There are also 2 more Broken Hearts to deal with, with a couple zombies here and there. In the glassed out area to the south, there are some boxes with an unknown armor for Lin, a JuJu, and a Footloose. In the glassed area to the north are 2 Worm-mans (worm-men... whatever). That's also where the chest for this level is, but you can't get it yet due to the replenishing zombies. Once the enemies that die are out of the way, go through the west door. There are 5 Broken Hearts in here, kill them all and the zombies will be gone for good. Also, the treasure key will materialize when they're gone, but in a different room. The boxes in this area have a Protein, 180z, and a Bind Bomb. Get those and go back to collect the treasure key and chest, which is a Backpack (yay!). Head back to where the 5 Broken Hearts were and go through the door in the southeast corner of the room. The boxes on the branch to the left have 10z and a JuJu in them. Get them and continue south to a ladder. ::Old TradeSector In (-850.0m) More broken hearts and zombies here, so stick to the same routine you used for the last ones. On the path east is also a Trilizard. These things can be a bit annoying since they rotate elements on you. Just have Lin and Ryu put non-elemental weapons on, and Nina switch between her wands when need be. You can tell which element it's weak to by the element it uses at the beginning of each round. Fire->Water->Lightning->Fire, that's the basic circle of elements in this game, kinda like Rock-Paper-Scissors. The boxes have 90z and 80z, so get those, then go in the door to the northeast. There's a Kanophage here, get it's zenny, then go to the corner. There's a petrophage right next to the first box with a Multimeds, then the next with 60z. Around the next corner is a petrophage and a Trilizard, so you may want to go back to the southern room and take the other door here to the west. Once they're dead, go north to the next room and up the ladder. ::Old TradeSector B (-840.0m) Go down the hallway to the south were there are 3 Brokenhearts. Kill them and go back down the ladder. ::Old TradeSector In (-850.0m) Now, go back south and east all the way to where you were earlier and go in the east door. There's a Kanophage right inside the room, so kill it for some easy cash. A little further in is a petrophage. There's a box with some Multimeds in it on the south pass, and a little past that is another broken heart. Kill it and go through the door next to it, and up the ladder in there. ::Old TradeSector A (-840.0m) Get the box with an unknown armor for Nina, then go back down. ::Old TradeSector In (-850.0m) Go all the way north to another ladder. ::Old TradeSector B (-840.0m) Go out south and all the way down the hall for an unknown armor for Nina, then in the room to the west. Kill the worm-men and Petrophages in here and the key will appear for the chest which has Ryu's Circle Stage skill There's also a box in here with an HP Plus. In the small room to the north are 2 other phages, not sure which kind, but they aren't petro, so that's a relief. There's a box here with 240z, get that and then... You guessed it! All the way back to the other side. ::Old TradeSector In (-850.0m) Go back to the ladder in the northwest corner. ::Old TradeSector B (-840.0m) Go east to the same room where the chest is, but you're on the other side of the wall now, go in the door to the north and down teh stairs. ::Trinity Pit (-850.0m) Watch the scene, then you're walking around with just Ryu. This is a town so you can save, identify, shop, whatever. Make sure you have either an Unlock or Multivitamin in your inventory, you'll need it shortly. To advance the story, go through the door between Nina and the shops, then into the side room on the right for a scene. After that, go back to Nina and talk to Lin. Agree to go down to TradeSector with her. Go to the room on the other side of where Mebeth is (there are a bunch of beds in this area). If you want to go down to the Old TradeSector, go through the door past the beds where a guard rail has been moved aside. This is entirely an optional area, so if you want to go there, look below the walkthrough. When you're ready to further the plot, make your way to the resting area and talk to the guy sitting down. Say you want to rest for a scene. You're now in a fight where you have to protect Nina from Trinity. She starts the battle with the Locked status on her, use the Unlock/Multivitamin you got earlier and she'll be able to attack during the first round. Have her get away as fast as possible, then put Ryu and Lin between her enemies and her. After 3 rounds, 2 more enemies will show up. Take them out as well. They all have some good items to steal, but don't let stealing get in the way of protecting Nina. After the fight is another scene. After that, you can go back to Trinity HQ to shop/identify/save if you want to. Go figure. Well, anyways, when you're ready take the door near Mebeth. ::Lifeline LowSector (-800.0m) In the next area, the box to the west has 160z, get that and go south. If you want to, the path to the west of that one that heads back east, will lead to a fight with 3 trilizards and 2 Gigantis'. The box on the other side is a Heal Kit, so you may want to forego the fights. Both doors to the west are D-Ratio doors, so ignore them and go east to the next area. The box directly south of you has an AP Plus in it, get that and go west. There will be a Shadowplayer and 3 Bandits sitting around ahead. Try to trigger the Shadowplayer to attack without the bandits, otherwise he'll use Command on one of your players, which will make things get annoying. You can steal Ryu's Hazecut from the Shadowplayer, so make sure to get that, it's not very hard to steal. When they're gone, take the western south passage and get the boxes with a Save Token an AP Charge, and a Proximity Bomb. Now, take the eastern south path to a door. This will lead to a fight with a Gigantis and 4 DeVogues. Beat them and the treasure key will show up. The chest back in the main room is Lin's That's It! skill. Get it and go west to an elevator. ::Lifeline Mid East (-760.0m) Go west, the box is 100xp, so get that and keep going to the next room. The box nearby has a Dynamite in it. Get that, then go north where the door is, that leads to some Hychees and an Odd Hychee. Don't forget to hit it with fire to get the Trauma Kit. Once you get that, go back west and through the door. There are 3 Trilizards and a DeVogue waiting for you at the next door to the west. Kill them and keep going west. ::Lifeline Mid West (-760.0m) There are 3 GooPrisms standing near the entrance. Thankfully, these are not tough opponents to face, and will drop different types of weapons/armor depending on how they're killed. The blue chest further down the hallway is a wonderbox, so take it down to very low HP and hope for another Gold XP. Whatever you get, keep going west to the next room. There are 3 Gigantis' along the wall, fight them, then keep going west. The boxes in this area have 220z, a Multimeds, a Speed Boost, 1400z, and an unknown shield for Lin. Get them and go up the elevator to the west. ::Lifeline Top East (-720.0m) Go west a bit, in the open area is a Shadowplayer with 4 Bandits. Again, if you can get the Shadowplayer by itself you'll have a lot easier of a time going at it. Once the Shadowplayer is dead the treasure key for this level will materialize. Don't bother taking the northern east route, all that has is a D-Ratio door you can't open yet. Instead, go north and in the little side passage go east. There's a Cerebus (Absorbs fire, exp/abilities grow each time it's hit by fire, similar to the Raflesia) there guarding boxes with an Armor Boost, a Bomb, an Aid Kit, and an unknown shield for Lin. Get those and go through the door to the south. There are some boxes with 50z, an AP Plus, a Sleepyshroom, a Range Boost, an unknown armor for Ryu, a speed boost, and a Reflex, as well as 4 Bon Appetits, which are basically an upgraded Hychee. Beat them and go through the door to the west. Nothing in this room, follow it to the door north. In the dugout to the south, where the path turns from east to north, there is a Gigantis, as well as one in the dugout to the north. Once you're past them there are 2 Odd Hychees and a bunch of Bon Appetits for you to get healing items from. Do whatever, then go back to the room to the south. East to the next room. Go north to the next room. Go all the way north to where there's a door leading to the west. Follow the path in this room west, south, then west again to the next room. Go in the southern east door (directly south from where you came in). Get the chest with Lin's How's That? skill in it, then go back west. Go through the blue door and continue west to the next room. ::Lifeline Top West (-720.0m) Watch the scene, then you're fighting Bosch. He's got 1900 HP and pretty good defense. He's also got the Thrust skill you can steal (which you should already have btw), as well as a Mega Panacea. First of all, start off by having Nina set up a magic circle or two, then have Ryu sit there and wait for his next turn (ie charge his AP). Oh yeah, he also recharges 300+ HP per round. Your best bet is to use and Stat boosting items you have and let loose as much as possible. Or... you can use D-Dive. It's your choice, but I recommend agaisnt D-Dive since chances are you're going to need it for future bosses and you don't want to use it all up right now (and you'll need to use about 10-15% or so for this fight). Once he gets low on HP he'll switch to Berserker mode, which is less HP recovery, more damage. Do your best and watch the scene afterwards. When you're in control again, take the door near you (ignore the one to the south, it leads to a D-Ratio door you can't open yet). Keep going to an elevator up. ::TopSector Junction (-700.0m) Go out the door east. The door further to the east is locked from the inside, so go north to the next area. ::TopSector Borough (-680.0m) The shops are a bit hidden in this town. The weapon shop is up the stairs to where there are two people talking and behind the wall, the item shop is the next set of stairs after that. Save if you want, then go all the way up the stairs and take the middle door. ::PowerOne 1F (-660.0m) Head east to the next room. There's a Karon to the south. It's got a lot of HP, but is still fairly easy to beat. Just watch out for it's death ability. Kill it and get the key it leaves behind. You'll also notice that the other enemies that look like bigger versions of it disappear when it dies. Remember the Zombies and brokenhearts? Yeah, this works the same way. There are some Crushedhearts on the bridge, make sure you take out all of them at once, or you'll be screwed. It's not hard though, just have Nina charge for a round and then use one of her level 2 skills (Fireblast works best). Continue east. The box next to the door has a Bind Bomb in it, and the blue chest in this area has a Backpack, giving you another page to your inventory. The box to the north of that has a protein, and the other box in that area has a Prox. Bomb. Before you fight the Nuggets in this area, go through the northwest door. Get the boxes with an Antidote and 1800z, then go back. There are a bunch of Nuggets, a Mama Nugget, and a Papa Nugget for you to fight. Fight them, then go through the... Northern door: Continue to the west, following the path. You'll wind up in a Kea room full of skeletons and a Karon. Kill the Karon and you win. Continue west and up. ::PowerOne 2F (-650.0m) Keep going out the door. There's a Karel and a RescueMech to fight. You can get Nina's Transfer skill from the RescueMech, in case you want it. Head to the east door and make sure Ryu is in the lead. There will be 4 Karels sitting right at the door, and you probably won't have time to shoot as Lin or swing with Nina, which is why Ryu is in the lead right now. Once they're out of the way, there are 2 more Karels and a RescueMech a little further down the hallway, and another RescueMech on the south wall. Go through the southern west door when you're done with the baddies. Across the bridge are more Karels and RescueMechs, beat them and go through the west door. There are some skeletons and a Karon in here, kill the Karon and get the key, then the boxes with: a Firebomb, 80z, an unknown armor for Nina, 80z, an HP Plus, 2000z, a Fresh Meat, and a Multimends. Then go get the treasure box with Nina's Divine skill in it. After you get that, leave this room. Go into the south door. Follow this path to an elevator up. ::PowerOne 4F (-630.0m) {from PowerOne 2F} In the next area, go south to the corner where the path turns east and you'll see a Proto-Karel to fight. Do so, then keep going east to the next room. The boxes in here have 140xp and a Fresh Meat, get those and continue to the northeast, to a door leading north, which is where the path from 3F will join in. Southern door. The box nearby has 30xp, get that and follow the path. This next room is a Kea room, so take out the Nugget family and continue west to an elevator. ::PowerOne 3F (-640.0m) Go out the door and head east. When you go through a door leading north, there will be a hallway with a branch to the west and a Proto-Karel with 2 RescueMechs to the north. Once you beat the Proto, the treasure key for this level will show up. In the boxes in this area are: an AP Charge, 160z, an Antidote, a Fresh Meat, 1000xp, and another AP Charge. Get them and go into the door to the north. There are some boxes with an Unknown weapon for Lin, an AP Charge, an Unknown weapon for Ryu, and 120z. Get those and go back to the room to the south. Take the west door. Go across the walkway and turn to the north. Follow that to the northeast door. (If you want to take the southwestern door in this area, it has 2 Nuggets, a Papa Nugget and 2 Thunder Goos. There are no items or whatnot in there other than what they do/don't drop) There are 3 Karels and 2 RescueMechs in here, take them out and go west, but go through the south door. This will take you to the big area with the generators in it, go to the door leading west. Get the chest with Ryu's Crossviper, then go back to where the Karels were. Go in the door to the west and up the elevator. ::PowerOne 4F (-630.0m) {from PowerOne 3F} Follow the path east, you'll wind up in a room with a bunch of skeletons and some big looking Karons (Lesser Karons). There's also a Karon in this room, which still needs to be killed for the others to get the message, only now it has the lessers to help out a bit. Kill them and continue southeast to a door leading south. This is where the paths from 3F and 2F meet up, so look below for the continuation. ::PowerOne 4F (-630.0m) {Where the two paths meet} There are a bunch of Hychee looking enemies (Primas) that can be killed with a sword swing or gunshot (ie out of battle), as well as a few skeletons and... yup, a Karon. The box in the northwest has 120z in it, get that and then go west. Take the path to the south first, there will be a few crushed hearts and a door to go through. Get the boxes in here with 3000z, an HP Plus, 160z, and 240z, then go back to the main room. Go north this time and fight 3 more CrushedHearts, this will make the treasure key for the level show up. Get that and then keep going north to the next room. There are a whole bunch more Primas in here for you to get healing items from, as well as a box with 100xp. Get all that and continue to the next room. Get the treasure chest all the way to the west with Lin's Shatter! in it, then go through the door to the south and up the elevator. ::PowerOne Roof (-620.0m) Go out the door and up the stairs. (wow that was a useful level) ::PowerOne Transport (-610.0m) Go up the staircase for a scene. Then a boss. Deamoned is one pain in the ass. You have 2 choices, either have Ryu go dragon and use his breath attack which will raise your D-Counter... a lot... or... Have Ryu charge his AP on the first turn, then on his next one use the 7th sense you got a while back (I really hope you still have that) and go all out with his level 3 skills, then use some AP Charges to repeat the process. That will be enough to get him down to 1/2 his HP (I told you this guy would be a pain in the ass). After that, just keep pounding away as hard as you can and don't be afraid to charge your AP for a turn, just don't forget to stay healed. Don't forget to steal the Anger skill from him if you can. Oh yeah, if you still have those Power Boosts, Magic Boosts, etc, now would be a good time to use them. His big attack to worry about is Fatal Strike, which takes you down to 1HP. In case you were wondering, his big defensive shield has about 200 or so HP that you have to break through before you can deal real damage to him. Also, his shield will recharge after every combo, so each new attack chain you start has to start over from scratch. Good luck. You'll get 16,800 exp for beating him. Get the key he leaves behind, then step onto the middle of the platform where the light is, that's an elevator of sorts. ::Centre Entrance (-500.0m) Well, you're half of the way to the surface, congrats. Go up the stairs, the Arsenal and Shop are there waiting for you. Do your business there and go in the foreboding door. ::Centre 1F (-500.0m) There aren't any fights in this first area, and both paths lead to the same place, so take the one you want to. The yellow boxes with pink tops are the representatives of the boxes in this area. Don't ask why, they just are. Down the stairs are some Buzz Militants and a Creep Stalker. The Creepstalker has Lin's Go On! skill. Once you kill the Creepstalker, the treasure key for this level will come out. Kill them, get the boxes with 320z, a Confushroom, and a Life Kit, and go in the door to the west that's at the bottom of the two staircases if you want to save. Otherwise, go through the east door. There will be 2 Darkstalkers near the door you come out of, kill them and get the boxes nearvy with 1000xp and a Confushroom. Stay on this level and go to the small little hut to the east. There's a Creepstalker guarding the blue chest, kill it and get the chest with a Backpack in it. Now go back and up the stairs. The staircase to the south has 2 boxes with 2000z and a JuJu, the one to the north has 1000xp in a box. Go in either the door to the north or the door to the south after you get the items. Go up the... thing to the next level. NOTE: The next level is different depending on which elevator you took to go up. If you took the Northern path, that is below, the southern one is below that. They both meet up at Centre Hall, so once you follow one of them there, ignore the other. ::Centre 2F North(-480.0m) Walk along the balcony east, you'll see a box with a status effect on it, pick a fight with it, it's a Pandorabox. You can get a 7th sense from it after battle, which you'll more than likely need for later. However, if you don't kill it, and let it go through it's 3 stages of casting spells on you, it will leave behind Nina's Mirage Blast (level 3 skill). Go down the stairs and get the boxes behind the staircase with 320z and a Confushroom, and on the other side of the stairs 2500z. Go east and pick a fight with the Gargantua blocking the door. It's got one of those shields Deamoned had, only this one absorbs ~500 damage before you can hurt it. You're going to have to wait and let your AP charge a turn before you go toe to toe with the thing. It's a pain, but Ryu should be able to do some heavy damage if you combo Deathbringer, and Lin can do quite a bit of damage with Shatter. Go through the door behind him when you're ready. In here are a bunch of Ebonfires and a Mahadevan. Don't kill the Ebonfires until after you kill this thing (at least, not all of them), it'll save you a headache. It's still annoying though since it casts sleep constantly. Lin's Shatter works the best against it. Once the Hahadevan is gone, the treasure key will show up, get that and the boxes in the room with a Firebomb and a Life Kit, then go back through the door. Go back up the staircase to the balcony and through the door to the east. Go east through the blue door and take the southern door first. Get the treasure chest with an unknown armor for Lin, then go back to the other room. Take the northern door this time to the elevator (I guess that's what those are) up. ::Centre 3F North (-460.0m) In the next room get the boxes near the staircase with an HP Plus and a Life Kit, then go up the stairs and through the door. In the middle nook is the treasure chest for this level, but you can't get it yet. In the eastern one is a box with 2500z. Get that and continue east to the next room. There are a bunch of Goos in this room, Ice Goos, Fire Goos, and Thunder Goos (Note: This is a good place to do the GooSlayer challend in the Fairy colony). Take them all out and get the boxes at the top of the stairs with an AP Charge and a Bomb. Go back through the door to the west and it will be a Kea room. There's a GooKing sitting around in the eastern nook. He likes casting Primus and then Expand for his turn, which, really, is a deadly combination if you don't stay healed. There's also a GooCrystal moving around invisibly so have Ryu in the lead and swinging his sword to make sure you're not screwed into a penalty round. There's also another GooKing in the western nook, so get him and the key for this level will appear in the west crook. Get that then get the chest with Nina's Blizzard skill in it. Now, go back to the other room. Go up the stairs and through the door to the elevator. ::Cupid (-440.0m) Watch the scene, then fight the boss, Cupid. She's got a pet Oncotte that can't be hurt as a pet (you can steal a really nice sword for Ryu from it), just ignore it and go after her. She also has a 300 HP shield that you have to get through each chain, so save your AP and use the 7th sense you got earlier on Ryu to have him take her down as much as possible in a round. Most of the time she just keeps running away, which gets really annoying really fast. You'll get 16,800 exp for beating her. Get the key she leaves behind and step on one the western elevator. ::Centre 4F North (-420.0m) Go to the next room. There are a bunch of Buzz Militants sitting around, have Lin trigger them and take them out, then get the box with 1500xp. After that, go through the door to the east. Get the nearby boxes with 150z, a Life Kit, a Full AP, and an HP Plus. There's another Pandora Box in this area, take it out and go to the next room. In the middle of the floor is a DarkStalker with a bunch of little Dark- Stalkers sitting nearby. Kill the big Darkstalker and the treasure key will materialize. Go back to the previous room, claim the chest with the shield skill Snatch, and come back to the big room. At the door to the east are a bunch of Bon Appetits for you to get healing items from, do that and go through the door to the north and up the elevator. ::Jezuit (-400.0m) Watch the scene, then fight the boss. He starts out using Shadowwalk, which makes him unable to be targeted. Have Nina set up a magic circle to make him visible again, then have everyone slam away at him. Unlike the others, his barrier shield isn't that strong (only 50HP), so getting past it won't be too much of a problem. The problem is that he has a really high defense. Owell, use the 7th sense you got from the Pandora Box on Ryu as well as the Full AP you got. If all else fails, just go dragon and hit him with a massive breath attack. If you're unlucky enough to have Ryu and Lin die, with Nina as the only one standing, pretty much the only way you can do this is to have her run circles around the room gathering AP and then setting 3 Fragball circles (or Fireball circles) on top of each other and letting those kill him. This will take a really long time to do, but it's pretty much the only way you can if it's down to just Nina. You'll get another 16,800 for beating him. Get his key and go up. ...Skip to Centre Hall... ----------------------------- ::Centre 2F South (-460.0m) Get the boxes with 2 Speed Boosts at the bottom of the stairs, then the box on the other side of the stairs for 5000z. Then pick a fight with the Pantagruel. Don't even bother using Nina for this, she'll hardly be able to hurt him. Instead have Ryu and Lin get in close and use their attacks. Lin's Shatter! will do some really nice damage to it. Once it's dead, get the Shazam if it leaves that behind, then go through the door. In here are a bunch of Ebonfires and a Mahadevan. Don't kill the Ebonfires until after you kill this thing (at least, not all of them), it'll save you a headache. It's still annoying though since it casts sleep constantly. Lin's Shatter works the best against it. Once the Hahadevan is gone, the treasure key will show up, get that and the boxes with 200xp, a Protein, a Tonic, and a Life Kit. After you get those, go back to the other room. Go up the staircase and through the door going east. Go in the northern door to get the chest with an unknown armor for Nina, then go back and through the southern door and up. ::Centre 3F South (-440.0m) There are a bunch of Rafflesias in the lower area (If you took on the fairy village challenge Tri-Buster, this is a good place to do it), take them out and get the boxes near the staircase with an AP Plus and an Aid Kit. Up the stairs are a few Trilizards, kill them and go through the door. This will be a Kea room, with a bunch of Cerebus' in it. Take them out and the key will appear. Get the chest with Nina's Inferno then get the boxes around here. The western one has 1500xp in it, the eastern one has 4000z. After you've gotten everything, continue east. Keep going east up the stairs and to the next door. Go up the elevator in here. ::Hortensia (-440.0m) Watch the scene, then you're fighting Hortensia. She's a really strong mage that will cast Fortune at the start of every round. What fortune does is change the color of the tiles people are standing on. When she casts Hymn, everyon standing on a blueish-White tile will have their HP healed. Everyone standing on a Black tile will have their HP halved. White tiles are Neutral. Whenever someone gets too close to her, she'll cast Divine Shell. This pushes everyone to the oppossite corner of the battle field. Annoying? Yes. The best way around it is to move everyone behind her, so that when she casts the spell, you won't get moved very far. Make sure to note which Element she uses on you during her round. That will change the element she is weak to. If she uses Fire, get Ice ready, Ice Electric, Electric Fire, etc. Her shield absorbs 300 HP each combo, so save your AP and go at her. Only use D-Dive as a last resort. She'll go down eventually. Get her key afterwards and go up the elevator. ::Centre 4F South (-460.0m) Go out into the open area, there will be 9 Buzz Militants in this area, kill them and continue east. Don't forget the boxes with a ? shield for Lin. Get the boxes in this area with a Protein, an HP Plus, and a Power Boost. There will be a KanophageDX near the chest, if you kill it in one round it will leave behind 7500z, so be sure to do that, then keep going east to the next room. Kill the big Creepstalker in the middle of the open area and get the key for the chest. Go back to the previous room. Open the chest with Lin's Drop Dead! skill (level 3) in it, then go back to the other room. Go towards the north door and kill the Bon Appetits near the door for some Med Kits, then go through the door to the south. Take the elevator up. ::Vexacion (-400.0m) Watch the scene, then you're fighting Vexacion, Nalaka, and Ryked. First things first, Ryked takes 1/2 damage from Lin, and Nalaka takes 1/2 damage from Nina, so again, don't try. They all have good weapons/armor to steal, but the only thing you should actually try for (intentionally, that is) is the Terrabreak skill (Ryu,level 3) Vexacion has. Vexacions shield blocks roughly 250 damage, so it's not as bad as Hortensia's. As with all bosses, charge your AP so you can chain attacks. When either Ryked or Nalaka state that they plan to counter during a turn, do not attack them, they really will counter attack you, using Kirin Flight. After about 6 turns, Vexacion will start using Quint Wake, which, unlike what it says in his profile, isn't going to kill you in one hit (well, ok, it doesn't say that exactly, but that's sorta what it's hinting at). It will deal about 200-250 damage to your team though, so it's still something to watch out for. Just keep everyone healed up and you shouldn't have too much trouble. Unless, of course, you don't have any healing items left, then you either use D-Dive, or you're screwed. When you finally win, you get 30,000 exp for beating all 3 of them. Get the key he had and go up the elevator. ----------------------------- ::Centre Hall (-390.0m) You'll end up here regardless of which path you took. Keep going to the next elevator. ::Cemetary (-380.0m) Examine one of the monuments here for a scene. When that's done, go up to the red monument and examine that for another scene. After that one, go through the now open door. The shops/arsenal kids are here, so do that. *Make sure you stock up on as many healing items as you can!* There's also a save phone nearby, use that then follow the walkway to a door. NOTE: If you can afford them, buy the armor for each person that makes them immune to status changes, they will help out greatly in the coming fights. ::Geovator Terminal (-370.0m) Go up the staircase that's nearby and into the control area up top. Examine the controls and choose to activate it for a scene. Yes, all that wicked music and the cool scene means this is gonna be one hell of a boss. ::Elyon You have to defeat him in 20 turns. Sounds easy enough, right? Yeah... sure... Well, whatever. On his first turn, Elyon will make 2 copys of himself that you have to beat. Store AP, then do massive combos, like you've done before. If you steal the 7th Sense from him, use it on Ryu, unless Lin has her Shatter! attack, in which case use it on her. His attacks don't really deal all that much damage right now, so you kinda lucked out on that one, but he still takes a long time to beat. World 1: Asiya Yuga - He summons shadows of himself and uses basic attacks. Kill the shadows ASAP (they have 3500 HP each), use D-Dive if you have to. The rest of this world isn't all that much to worry about. World 2: Yetsira Yuga - He casts a magic circle on one of your characters, MAKE SURE AT LEAST ONE CHARACTER IS OUTSIDE OF THE CIRCLE!!! When that countdown hits 0 (well, the turn after it hits 0) he casts a spell that utterly kills anyone within the circle. World 3: Beriyah Yuga - Revive whoever got slaughtered in the last attack, then continue as you have been for the past few rounds. World 4: Astiluyah Yuga - He'll summon 2 more shadows of himself. These are even more of a pain than the last ones, since they will use Stinger, followed by Valhalla. Eventually he'll go down and you'll get 32,000 exp. Watch the scene that follows. ::Geovator Terminal (-120.0m) Once you're in control again, heal up if you need to, then get off the Geovator and go down the stairs to a door. ::GeoFront LowSector (-110.0m) Watch the scene. After that you're fighting again. He's got 2400 HP and good defense, but his shield isn't as strong as some of the ones you've faced (only about 100 HP), so you can use D-Dive if you want to, but you don't need to. In fact, if your D-Dive is around 50% or higher, I reccomend that you don't. Just make sure you keep everyone healed. In addition to his normal attacks, he also casts Blizzard and Primus. He's also got a new attack that he uses occasionally (luckily so) called Tri Wake. When he uses it, he'll use it as a combo with Twin Wake, which means it's almost garunteed to kill whoever gets hit by it. Ryu can survive if he's got 400+ HP and something that reduces damage by 25-50%, but that's about it. Well anyways... keep pounding away and keep healing when you need to and he'll go down sooner or later. After you win you get 10000 exp. Watch the scene that comes after and then you're fighting again. You pretty much have to go dragon this time around. Luckily, you only need to hit him once to break his invulnerability. If he uses Malefactor you're pretty much screwed over completely. After a round of him being vulnerable, he'll go back to being invulnerable, so you have to hit him with dragon powers again. Just go at him with any/everything you've got. If you still have 80% or less on your D-Counter, well, I don't need to give you any advice on what you should be using, do I? You know what? I will anyways. First, turn into a dragon with D-Dive. Next, use D-Charge 2-3 times (or more if you want, but at least 2 times), and then use Twister until there's nothing left of the guy. You get 65,535 exp for beating him. Guess what though, you're still not done! Watch the scene, then you're fighting again. Ok, not really. Just let loose one hell of a breath attack. Keep going until your guage is maxed out at 100% (no matter what it was before, it will have to go to 100% now). After that there will be a cinematic sequence, then the ending credits. Wait through the ending credits if you want to make a clear game, which you should. Depending on how well youdid, you'll can get a higher D-Ratio for the next time you play through (when you load the clear game). Congratulations, you've beaten Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.B: Old TradeSector optional area. You can only come here at one point in the entire game, when you're at the Trinity HQ with Lin and Nina. After you speak with Mabeth, go back to where Nina is and talk to Lin. She'll ask if you want to go to the old TradeSector with her to look for medicine. Say yes and go to the side hall on the oppossite side of where Mabeth is. The guard rail that is normally blocking the way will be gone, go through there and down the ladder to... ::Old TradeSector 2 (-860.0m) Through the first door, there will be an Aggrosser on the ceiling near the doorway to the north (all the way to the east in the corridor you're in, where it joins into a larger, more open area). Fight it and then go into the middle area, where a couple Gars are waiting for you. Ignore them for now and go into the door to the west. There will be a GarSniper inside the door with his back to you, so kill him and continue down the corridor to a door. When you get to the T junction in the next room, go west to another door. Follow the path in here all the way to another door. Get the box with an Aid Kit right where you enter and keep going west until the path goes to the north. Keep following it to another door. Ignore the side branch going north for now, instead keep going west to a door. Again, ignore the side branch and keep going west. Get the box with a Save Token and go back to the previous room. This time, take the branch to the north and go down the ladder. ::Old TradeSector D (-880.0m) Follow the path all the way south, ignoring the side paths to the east. You'll wind up at a ladder, take it. ::Old TradeSector C (-870.0m) Go out the first door and fight all of the BrokenHearts at the intersection (there are 6 total), then take the door to the east. Have Lin shoot or Ryu swing as soon as you enter the room, there are 4 Worm-men in here for you to take on, after they're gone the treasure key for this level will come out, get that and the chest nearby with Nina's Enfeeble skill. There are also a few boxes in here, but you can't get to them. Instead, go back to the ladder down. ::Old TradeSector D (-880.0m) Goo all the way back north to the ladder up. ::Old TradeSector 2 (-860.0m) Go down the hall to the east and take the door there. Take the northern branch in the path to a ladder. ::Old TradeSector D (-880.0m) Go down hte path to the south and turn west with it to get to a door. This is a Kea room with some GarPikes, and GarSnipers. If you still have your Ice equipment on from the Ice Floor area, you have nothing to worry about. Once they're all dead there will be a scene for you to watch. After it's over, get the boxes behind the counter with 3 Trauma Kits, then go back out the east door. Go back up the ladder. ::Old TradeSector 2 (-860.0m) Go west at the junction and follow that to a door. Follow this path until it branches off to the south (where the door west is) and go in the door to the south. Right inside is a Gigantis with it's back to you, beat it. The box next to the door to the west has an antidote, and the one at the intersection has a Heal Kit. Take the door all the way to the east. Get the box with an Aid kit and go back to the other room. This time take the path to the south. You're back in the open area (well, sorta) you were in earlier. Beat all of the Gars in here, then take the path to the southeast and go down the ladder in the next room. ::Old TradeSector C (-870.0m) First, go north to a door that's half under water. Beat the brokenhearts and keep going north to a ladder. ::Old TradeSector D (-880.0m) Keep going north through the hallway to another door. Get the box with 800xp and go back to the other corridor. Take the branch to the west to another room. There are 3 Aggrossers and 2 Gigantis' in this area, take them out and get the treasure key, which unlocks the chest to the north with Ryu's Discharge skill in it. Get it and go into the door to the south. Go up the stairs. ::Old TradeSector C (-870.0m) Go out the door and in the side room to the west, where you can get the boxes that weren't available before. They have a JuJu, a LongFoot, and a PowerMeal. Get them and go through the door to the south. Go into the side room and get the boxes with a Heal Kit, 2500z, and 30xp. The ones behind the counter in the middle west area have JuJus, and the ones in the area to the south have an Aid Kit, a ? armor for Ryu, and an Eyedrops. Go all the way back to the other floor. ::Old TradeSector D (-880.0m) Go through the first door and then east to the next one. Turn south and go back up the ladder. ::Old TradeSector C (-870.0m) Go out the first door and take the side path to the west, follow that to a door. Keep moving, there's a Petrophage right at the door. There area few more Petrophages in here as well as a WonderBox. Take everything out and go back out east. Go all the way south to the up ladder. ::Old TradeSector 2 (-860.0m) Go out the door and make your way back west to the ladder up and out. That's it for this optional area. If you came here while following the walkthrough, go back to where it left off to continue the story. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.C: D-Ratio Doors ::Old Waste Shaft 4F D-Ratio needed: 1/1024 (maybe lower) What's in there: Skulldiggers and a Lesser Karon to fight. Gives key to treasure chest on level, which is also there. Chest contains Nina's Weaken skill. ------------------------------ ::Old Waste Shaft 5F D-Ratio needed: 1/1024 (maybe lower) What's in there: GuardAnts and a Boss Ant and to fight. The Boss Ant will leave the key to chest in the corner, which is Nina's G-Iceblast skill. Through the door in the northeast is a red box with party exp, then past the blue door is another door to the south. In there are a bunch of Guard Ants and Worker Ants. The door to the west leads to a red box with a shield for Lin. The door to the south is another D-Ratio door (requires same D-Ratio as the door for this area) that is basically the other way into this area. ------------------------------ ::CorpLab 1F D-Ratio needed: 1/1024 (maybe lower) What's in there: The first door is an elevator down to B1. :Corplab B1 (-1020.0m) Down here are a bunch of Goos on the ceiling in the hallway and in the side room, a couple Bon Appetits in the side room, and a white box in the side room as well. The southern west door has a couple of white boxes in it as well. The room to the west has a couple Odd Hychees and some Bon Appetits in it. Through the door to the south is a room with a bunch of GooRubys and Goo Plasmas. Through the blue door are some Goo Sapphires and more Goo Plasma monsters. The yellow box in here has a ? sword for Ryu +2 (Buster Sword+2), and the key appears in the room back to the north. Get that and come back here for the chest with Nina's G-Inferno skill. Once you have that, go all the way back to the area outside the elevator and take the northern west door. There are a couple white boxes through the blue door all the way to the west, get them and go through the door to the south. Nothing in here, just go to the door in the southwest corner. Follow this to an elevator down. :Corplab B2 (-1030.0m) Go out the door and follow the path to a lab area where there are a bunch of Kanaphages and Refflesias, as well as some white boxes scattered around. Get everything and continue to the east. Down the hall is an Armstrong, beat him and continue along. There's another Armstrong just inside the door, but it stays still. If you want to fight it, move around to the other side of the barrier (walk along the wall) to the southeast corner, then have Lin trigger the fight. When it's dead (you you just don't feel like fighting it), continue to the west. Go through the first blue door and then through the next one to the south. On the table is a doll, examine it for a scene. Examine it a second time to pick it up (it's actually a weapon for Nina, go figure). Go through the next blue door and get the 2 white boxes as well as the yellow box with 500 xp in it. Now, go all the way back up to CorpLab 1F and continue the game like normal. ------------------------------ ::IndustOne 2F West D-Ratio needed: 1/1024 (maybe lower) What's in there: It's a kea room with 9 Petrophages. Beat them all and the treasure key for the level will appear. Go through the blue door, get the white box as well as the chest with the shield skill Reflect. After that go through the door to the south. You're out of the D-Ratio area now, basically that was a shortcut to bypass IndustOne 2F East. ============================================================================= 4: Skills and Combos You acquire skills in one of 4 ways. (adds more to piercing damage) ============================================================================= 5: Fairy Colony Once you get to the Biocorp Lab at LowSector, you will be able to trigger the Fairy colony mini-game. This is completely optional for the game, but has quite a few benefits to it if you choose to go through and play it. Ant skills: HP - Guts - Their HP, works with physical jobs: Excavation, Explorer, and The Daily. Smt - Smarts - Intelligence, good for "smart jobs" like Bank, Laboratory, Market, the Cafeteria, and The Daily. Tst - Taste - Well, basically their artistic side. Works with: Concert Hall, the Stockhouse, and The Daily. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jobs ----------------- Market Sells various items that you might not normally be able to get. Should definately be one of your first rooms, since it will let you get Nina's level 2 skills very early (relatively speaking) in the game. Skill Shop: Ryu Shop: Nina Shop: Lin Shop: Hex Impact Gear+3 Antenna+5 FlameBlaster+2 FireBlast Bari Shell Impact Check+3 Bari Ribbon+1 IceBlast Ruby Maser+2 Bari Ring Impactproof+2 Lightning Plasma Maser+3 Holy Heart ThunderRifle+3 Weapon Boost Bari Guard DeluxAntenna IceCannon+4 Shield Boost Sapph. Maser+4 Bari Loop Bari Bangle Cutspace Protect Suit+1 Divine Coat+1 Quick Garter+6 Divine Strong Sword+8 Demonscythe SaveQueen+1 Slow ChobhamPlate Platinum Arc Lightwave Skullsplit Legend Blade+1 Wizard Wand+1 Grenade+1 ----------------- Laboratory Researches new jobs for your fairies to do with the rooms you make. Does not make any money. It will also research items for you. In previous games this was a seperate shop that was called the Gift Shop, but this works the same way. The longer you leave the fairies alone, the better the item will be. ----------------- Bank Well, it's a bank. Based on the various account types they offer, you can put money in and leave it there until you come back, after which time it will have grown in amount. There are 3 different ways to invest your money. Checking account: Works just like a bank account in real life, you put money in and go fight stuff while it grows on interest. This works best if you leave large sums of money in the bank (50,000z on up) and then go through several story sections of the game, fighting just about everything so as to let the account grow. Savings: These work slightly differently. You put a set amount of money in, either 100 or 500 zenny, and then go off and fight the number of enemies you're told to (hint: the number you have to fight is the same as the bank account number). Foreign: This is more like Stock Market trading than the others. You buy currency from another country (don't as where the other countries are) and then sell that currency for your own later on. Basically you buy when the currency value is low, and then sell when it's high. Simple, but a bit risky if you're not careful. You can trade in two different types of currency, Mils and Dals. They're both essentially the same process, except Mils are worth a bit more than Dals. NOTE: The bank does not start with all of the above options. When you first open it up, it will only have the checking option, then after you fight enough enemies, the additional options will become available. ----------------- Explorer One of the most useful jobs in the game. The ants that are sent out will get various items for you, ranging from fairly common, to incredibly rare. The longer you leave them out, the better the item, but also the higher the chance that the ant will die. ----------------- The Daily Like the cafeteria, this serves no real purpose for the game, other than to earn a bit of money and provide you with some amusing tidbits about the game. In previous games this was the fortune tellers' job, but it has since become more mainstream I guess. This is also the only job where you're required to have 3 ants in it at all times. You need one with Guts, one with Smarts, and one with Taste. If you put ants in those positions which excell at them, then The Daily can be one of the biggest money makers in the Fairy Colony. ----------------- Concert Hall The game's jukebox. It will play the soundtrack for you and earn some money for the colony. That's about it. ----------------- Cafeteria Basically a way for your colony to make some money. Doesn't have any other really useful features to it, and once you get your shops running and the other places (Daily, Bank, etc) going, this will become useless even in the regard of making side money. ----------------- Review Board Statistics: Shows you your game data for the game. Your D-Ratio, encounter rate, foes defeated, saves, etc. Challenges: Do these and you'll get certain prizes for completion. Chicken Runner - Escape 9 times in a row Combo Master - Do a combo 9 times in a row* Goo Slayer - Kill 9 Goos Technician - Win 9 battles in a row without taking damage Duke Hunter - Deafeat 9 Duke creatures 1-Round Warrior - Defeat all foes in 1 turn 9 times in a row Tri-Buster - Defeat 9 3-headed monsters Hard Puncher - Deal 999+ damage in one turn Robocrusher - Defeat 9 machine creatures * Combo Master is a bit deceiving in what it wants you to do. Basically, you need to perform a 180AP combo where you do all 3 lvl 1 skills, all 3 lvl 2 skills, and all 3 lvl 3 skills in one combo. Prizes: Chicken Runner - C'Mere!! (level 1 skill for Lin) Combo Master - ? gun for Lin+9 (AutoRifle+9) Goo Slayer - 30,000z Technician - Bladesmack (level 2 skill for Ryu) Duke Hunter - 1000 party XP 1-Round Warrior - Kidding!! Yeah, I know it sounds weird, but it can be very profitable if you know what you're doing. First, keep checking the market report and wait until the fairy in charge says the prices are low, it's time to buy. Then choose your Nugget from the list of ones to buy. The higher their ranking, the more you pay for them, but also the more you can get in return later on. Just remember though, you have to pay for the Nugget out of your own pocket expenses, the colony won't pay for it. You now have to leave while the fairy puts a bid out for the Nugget. The next time you come back to the colony, your nugget should have arrived and you'll be able to see it next to the counter (not on it). Once you have a Nugget, choose what type of feed you want it to grow on from the menu of feeds. The more ants you have in here, the better the selection will be. The better ones are more expensive (obviously), but not required to get a good price. Every time you visit the colony from now on, make sure to check the board in the main area for status on your nugget. When the board has a note from your nugget fairy saying the nugget is mature, go back to the nugget shop and check on the market. If it says the prices are high, sell the nugget. If the prices are low, leave and come back a little later (don't wait too long or the nugget might die). Once you've sold the nugger for a (hopefully) high price, leave the colony, come back, and start the process all over again. If a nugget is sick, you can either let it heal itself over time or you can feed it a Multimeds from your inventory to heal it instantly. If you let it heal itself it won't get as large/flavorful as if you heal it. Talk to the fairy up on the pillar to go inside. If you've played Lufia 2 and spent time in the Ancient Cave, that is basically what this is like. You start at level 1 but keep all of your equipment/skills. If you die in there, you're brought back to the fairy colony the same way you were when you left for the dungeon, but without any of your inventory items (you keep your equipment). Also, your D-Counter is at 0 when you go in, but you still don't want to overuse it, you won't end the game, but you will get booted out of the dungeon if it hits 100%, just as if you had died. Every 5 floors is a fairy that will take you back to the colony if you want. If you choose to leave this way, you will keep all of the items and skills you find down here but you'll have to start all the way from the beginning of the dungeon the next time you enter. NOTE: You can get these treasures once each time through the game. NOTE2: Though you may be tempted to put all of your party exp into Ryu when you start the Kokon-Horay, it may be a better idea to put it into Lin since she has a long range attack and can trigger fights from a distance. It's an even better idea to do this if she has the Sniper Scope, which will allow her to pick enemies off very easily without having to worry about taking damage (even more so with mages and other long range attackers, whose AI tends to make them do nothing but charge AP until someone moves in close enough for them to attack). If you go up against a particularly hard enemy on the first few levels while every one else is still at a low level (for example the Papa Nugget on the first level), you can just have Ryu transform into the wyrm to take it out easily. Lv: 02 HP: 16,000 Steal: Dragon Tear Drop: nothing Elements Fire: 50% Ice: 150% Electric: 100% Information: Anti-Dragon. Dragon attacks only affect it once per turn, but..? - He casts Howling at the start of combat and then whenever all 3 of your characters get out of the Bind status. - He casts Inferno the first few rounds, then moves on to Spores and Primus. - Keep your party memebers away from each other so they don't all get hit by his attacks. - After about 14 turns or so, he'll use Depress, and then if the character is still alive, he'll use Dragonbreath, which will almost always kill whoever it hits. - Note about Dragonbreath: It's damage is based on Dover's HP, so the lower his health gets, the less damage his breath deals (remember the previous Breath of Fire games? They worked the same way). - The only way to really hurt Dover is to attack him in dragon form and then Cooldown and continue the attack in human form. Basically, turn into Wyrm and use D-Breath without holding it down (it will deal 0 damage, but still trigger his Dragon protection), then cooldown (so you won't have used any AP), and finish the turn with some massive combos. If Lin is still alive, her combos will be able to hurt him as well, as will Nina's, but Nina will probably have already had her turn (unless you transform Ryu at the end of his turn which is not recommended). - If you have any Power Boosts, make sure to use them on Ryu after he goes back to human form and is ready to do a combo on Dover. - You're going to need about 10% to 15% of your D-Counter to do things this way, so I hope you haven't been going too hog wild in the earlier parts of the dungeon. - Once you kill him you get 65535 exp. Little, if any, of that is gained as party exp though, so you have to wonder why you get so much. Whatever... - After he's dead and you get the treasure, go through the door behind him to go back to the Fairy Colony. ============================================================================= 6: The SOL system ----------------------------------- | Section ToC | |-----------------------------------| | 6.A: Story through the SOL system | | 6.B: SOL Restore/Restart | ----------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6.A: Story through the SOL system Short for (S)cenario (O)ver(L)ay system, the SOL is a new way of approaching the plot of a video game. Instead of showing a player the entire story their first time through, and including little nuances about certain characters and the overall plot that would normally be overlooked without prior knowledge to the game's storyline (think: M Night Shayamalan movies like "The 6th Sense"), Capcom has instead opted to remove those pieces of the story from the game on your first play though, and creating a system that will show you more of the plot and further character development on each consecutive play through the game. This feature, in a way, forces the player to play the game multiple times, through the clear game method. In the past 2 Breath of Fire games, Capcom has offered the option of a clear game that would enable the player to pick the game back up with all of the items, equipment and status of their characters from a point in the game just before the last boss was fought. The player would be able to obtain extra items that were not normally available in the regular game, and have the option of fighting the last boss multiple times, but that's about it. There were no new story revelations or character developments. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? Well, that remains opinion. It is, however, an interesting system. Your first play through the game is just that, your first play through. You'll see only the basic plot, no interesting character references or any scenes not directly related to the game's main plot. ***************************************************************************** Warning: Major Story Spoilers from this point until the end of the section. ***************************************************************************** On the second time through an area (NOTE AREA, NOT THE WHOLE GAME), you will get a few extra scenes that go a little bit more in depth into Lin's and Bosch's characters. There will be several scenes throughout where the party stops for a minute or two to catch their breath before moving on. - When you first meet up with Lin, there will be another scene of her talking with Mabeth about the mission, what her goals are to be. - When you leave the Old Waste Shaft, there will be a scene where Hortensia tells of the prophecy about man gaining wings and the world returning to the sky. - When you arrive inside the CorpLab and she scouts ahead, there will be a scene with Lin walking through one of the labs where there are several disembodied parts that look like parts for new/extra Ninas. - After the fight with Zeno, when you leave Storage, there will be a scene with Cupid giving Tantra the orders to attack Ryu. - After your fight with Tantra, when you're going to MidSector, there will be a scene with Bosch being ridiculed by another ranger, calling Bosch a coward, after which Bosch will attack the other ranger and vow to beat Ryu. - There will be a flashback scene of Bosch's past when you get to Lifeline, showing his father, Vexacion, putting him against a very large monster and making Bosch fight the monster. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- During the 3rd time, there will be even more scenes. - At the very beginning of the game, there will be a scene with Nina in the BioCorp Lab, having trouble breathing and the doctor explaining certain things to her. - When Bosch asks to meet with Zeno alone, after Ryu leaves that scene will be played out. - As Ryu leaves Ranger HQ for the first time, there will be a scene there. - On the way down to Lift to BioCorp 2, there is a scene where Mabeth will have a converstion with a Regent (Cupid). - On the BioCorp Lift, there will be an added scene about Ryu being a dragon. - In the BioCorp Lab, Nina will have a flashback of being on an operating table. - After the kea room in IndustOne 3F, Lin will make a status report to someone (probably Mabeth). ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- During your first Clear Game (after you've beaten the game and saved), there will be another set of scenes for you to view. - When the party take the ladder from Industone 1F up to Industone 2F, there will be a scene with Odjn and Origin, and then with Origin and Cupid. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6.B: SOL Restore/Restart If you die, or feel that you cannot continue further in the game (ie your D-Counter is too high), you can use the SOL system to restore an earlier game, or restart the game from the beginning. Simple? Sorta. SOL Restore: When you choose to SOL: Restore, you will be taken back to your last save point, your D-Counter will revert back to what it was then, as will your Zenny and level. However, you will retain a percentage of the party exp that you earned before you SOL'ed, and you will also retain all of your skills, and characters' current equipment. The items you have stored in the Arsenal Locker will carry over from when you choose to restore from (in other words, if you have a Legend Sword in the locker when you save, then sell it and choose SOL restore, you're out of that Legend Sword). You will get new scenes for SOL Restoring, but it works a bit differently than a SOL Restart and Clear Game. You will get new scenes for everthing after where you SOL Restore from, but you won't get new scenes for stuff you've already passed. So basically, on your next play through the game you'll get extra scenes in certain areas, but not others. SOL Restart: If for some reason, your saved game has become unusable (D-Counter too high, no money or healing items and characters are at minimum health), you can choose to restart the game from the beginning. The same thing that happens when you SOL: Restore as far as levels, zenny, Lockers, etc. The only 3 differences are that: A, you'll be back at the beginning of the game (obviously), B, you will get to see extra plot scenarios throughout the whole game, rather than just extras from what you had already passed, and C, your D-Counter will reset to 0% (you'll also lose your dragon powers until you get them from the game like before). In both of them, when you choose to use the SOL system, your inventory will be reduced once again to what it was at the start of the game: 1 Tonic, 1 Save Token, and 5 Heal Kits. ============================================================================= 7: PETS ---------------- | Section ToC | |----------------| | 7.A: Traps | | 7.B: Bonus Exp | ---------------- No, this isn't the Capcom digital pet system. It's the (P)ositive (E)ncounter (T)actical (S)ystem. Put simply, it's a way to make battles easier for your party, which, unless you're using a GameShark, you'll probably need at some point in the game. The basic way the PETS system works can be described in 2 forms. The traps, which allow you to give yourself an advantage going into the battle, and battle effectiveness, which increases the amount of experience and party experience you gain after battle. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7.A: Traps There are 10 traps in the game that you van set in place and leave for enemies to either eat and be affected by various statuse, or use against them to deal added damage going into/during combat. What it does on field Trap /in combat ------------------------------------------------------------ Fresh Meat Distracts enemy so you can get the EX turn more easily /Restores 10HP for whoever uses it Rotten Meat Repels enemies away from it /brings whoever uses it down to 1HP Confushroom Confuses the enemy that eats it /confuses whoever uses it SleepyShroom Puts whatever enemy eats it to sleep /Puts whoever uses it to sleep PoisonShroom Poisons the enemy that eats it /Poisons whoever uses it Dynamite Deals minor damage to an enemy /cannot be used in combat Bomb If it hits an enemy, it deals about 100 damage to all within range, if not then it sits on the ground and times down to an explosion, which will deal the same amount of damage. /Deals about 100 damage to all enemies in range Bind Bomb If it hits an enemy, will deal ~100 damage to the enemy it hits and immobilize them (Bind status). /Deals ~100 Fire damage to enemies in range and Binds them Firebomb Explodes and deals ~200 Fire damage to enemies in range. Burn lasts for about 1.5 seconds and then dissipates. If you get into a fight with an enemy while the trap is still burning, the flames will last for 1-2 rounds in battle, depending on how long the bomb was burning before battle. /Deals ~200 Fire damage to any enemy that touches it, lasts for 3 rounds. Prox Bomb Once it's set, it will detonate and deal ~200 Fire damage to any/all enemies in range. /Deals ~200 Fire damage to enemies in range, will not auto- trigger NOTE: In order to use a trap in combat, you have to walk over to it and press L2. This brings up a set of options, with Pick Up and Use listed as the actions. Choose "Use" and your character will use the trap. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7.B: Bonus Exp Let's face it, if you only got the normal amount of exp from battles for levelling up, you probably wouldn't have anywhere near the levels you need for beating the game (even though the dragon form can slaughter just about anything with minimal effort). You would also be a tad bit screwed when you start a new SOL: Restart or Clear Game, since you go back to level 1. Granted, the weapons you got would make the replay easier, but you would still have troubles with enemies for a while since your HP and AP would not be very high at all. That is where the PETS system lends a hand. By utilizing the various traps and abilities you have at your disposal, you can increase the amount of party exp that you can use outside battle at your discretion, which can even be saved for your next play through the game. However, while these bonuses both increase the amount of party exp (converted from normal end-battle exp) you gain after battle, but have different variables that determines the amount that the bonus will be. ----------------- Tactical Bonus The tactical bonus rewards you for the various tactics that you use to wipe out the enemies, how efficient you are. You gain tactical bonuses for killing all monsters without taking any damage, for killing monsters while they're distracted (ie eating a trap), and getting an EX turn. Taking a lot of turns, having a character die and be resurrected, losing the EX turn, and taking a lot of damage (not neccessarily dying, but still taking constant damage) will lower your tactical %. ----------------- Rating Bonus The Rating Bonus is a lot easier to aquire since it is based less on your being "smart" in battle and more on your ability to wipe out monsters fast. The vast majority of your rating bonus will come from killing multiple monsters in the same turn. For each monster you kill during the same turn as another, you get 20% added to your bonus for each monster killed after the first (the bonus goes down by 4% per enemy for every turn in battle beyond the first). This is incredibly beneficial when you go up against groups of somewhat weak enemies that have a stronger "boss" with them, for example: a group of Nuggets with a Papa Nugget. If there are 4-5 Nuggets around and you kill all of them at once, you'll get a nice rating bonus, which will be quite hefty with the exp from the Papa Nugget. You also can get a small bonus to your rating by utilizing a monster's weaknesses (I haven't thouroughly tested this one yet though). If a mosnter takes 200% damage from Fire, and you use Flare, Fireblast, and Inferno to kill it, you'll get an extra 10% or so Rating Bonus. Also, monsters have more than just elemental weaknesses. If a monster description says it doesn't like being stolen from, or it panics when alone, then steal from it and/or kill all it's friends. That will get you the same bonus as from using the right element. On a downside, I'm not exactly sure if weakness bonuses will stack with each other, making you only able to get the added 10% for using weaknesses once in the battle. ============================================================================= 8: Combat Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter is a dungeon crawler and as such, most of your time playing the game will be spent in battle. Attack Patterns: - There are 4 basic attack patterns used in the game: 1 enemy, Line, Circle and Spread. 1 enemy Attacks will do just that, hit only the enemy targetted. Line Attacks will target an enemy and any enemies in front of or behind that enemy within range of the weapon. Circle Attacks hit around the character (ie Shazam) and have a radius of that character's equipped weapon range. There are also Circle attacks that don't attack around the character, but still hit in circles (like Nina's Magic Circle Traps). These skills have a fixed radius that will not change with weapons. - All attacks that have a targetting effect of Spread have an arc of 140 degrees, regardless of the weapon's range. Basic Tactics: - When moving around on the battlefield, you can move about 10cm for every 1 AP used. - If you've got a skill with a Spread attack (ie Side Slash) and a pack of enemies close together, it may be a good idea to use the added AP to walk around the enemies so you can target all of them with the Spread, rather than use even more AP targetting just one of them. The same goes with Circle and Line attacks. - When triggering fights to get the EX round, remember that Ryu swings the fastest, then Lin, then Nina. Advanced Tactics: - You cannot target enemies though walls, but you can hit them with splash damage from other attacks. For example, using Lin's Blow Up! skill (which has a Spread attack pattern) you can target an enemy directly in front of her, an if there is a wall with an enemy on the other side in range of the attack, it will hit him/her as well. - Some enemies have an ability to absorb certain types of attack to become stronger (such as the Rafflesia which absorbs fire elemental attacks) and also leave behind more exp than they normally would. Most of the time it's unbeneficial to pump them up for exp since taking the time to do so will lower your rating and tactics bonuses after battle, giving you less party exp. - When killing multiple enemies at the same time in order to obtain a high rating bonus, you don't have to kill all the enemies with the same attack, or even with the same character. They just have to all die in the same round. - If you're going up against an enemy you haven't seen before, or an enemy you don't want to be close to (Duke Lord anyone?), use Lin to trigger the fight. Just remember a couple things with her. 1, monsters are knocked back by her shot, only about a meter or two, but they're still moved and if they were already at her maximum distance, she's gonna have to move to target them. And 2, every monster in her visual range (in other words, the range of her gun in the direction she's facing) is going to be in the fight, so watch out when you try to do precision fight triggering. Traps: - Repeat after me: Traps are out friends! - Ok, as indicated by the above statement, if you hit enemies with traps, especially ones like Firebombs, you can deal a lot of damage to them without having to actually do anything. Some enemies can even be killed by traps outside of battle! If you do kill an enemy outside battle, you won't gain any normal exp for your characters, but you will gain their exp as Party exp. - When using the Bind Bomb in an area with a large amount of enemies, try throwing it so you hit a few of them, but not all, that way you can trigger the fight and draw 1 of them to you, rather than have to fight the entire pack all at once. - Against thief enemies and enemies that run away all the time (Kanaphages), use a Bind Bomb on them to keep them in place. - Mushrooms (both kinds) work great when you're trying to fight specific enemies, but there are others around you don't want to fight. Throw a rotten one at a group and they'll scatter, letting you go after the one you want. ============================================================================= 9: Enemies I'll identify what the items you can get are as I figure them out. -A- Aggrosser Lv: 16 HP: 260 Steal: Wake Up, Aphid Drop: ? armor for Nina +3 (Chaos Check+3), HP Plus Elements Fire: 50% Ice: Recovered Electric: 150% Information: Panics as HP is reduced, increasing the odds it will use Confuse. This section is here for everything that deserves to be put in, but isn't big enough for its own section, or didn't fit into any pre-existing section. ----------------------------- | Section ToC | |-----------------------------| | 10.A: Party XP tricks | | 10.B: Rafflesia trick | | 10.C: Equipment | ----------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10.A: Party Exp tricks Ok, granted, there is a whole section for the PETS system which does exp, but this didn't seem to fit there. what it is, is a way to get massive amounts of party exp without raising your D-Counter to critical levels, while still using the dragon form to get that exp. Huh? You say? Keep reading. As you probably know, there is usually a save spot (Telecorder) right before a major boss comes up. You may also know that bosses are an incredible source of exp, and party exp if done right. So, put 2 and 2 together. If you save at the Telecorder with a token, then destroy the boss with D-Dive, you can gain a lot of party exp. Then, you choose to "Give Up" from the main menu (press the L2 button) and do a SOL: Restore. You'll be back at the save spot with all your items, restored D-Counter, and oh yeah, the bonus party exp you got from the boss. You can do this as many times as you want, just so long as you know you will lose points towards your D-Ratio for the next game (more on that later) from saving, as well as using the SOL system. The 2 most profitable places to do this trick are in the Storage area, right after the Frozen road (where you fight 9 Battlers, a big machine thing, and Zeno with 2 lackeys), and at the end of the game when you fight Elyon (kill his shadows, let him summon more, etc). However, there is another way that you can gain a lot of party exp in a short amount of time without using save tokens or the SOL system but you will use a lot of time (which you do with the other methods as well, just not as much as this way). What it involves is going to the Kokon-Horay at the bottom of the fairy colony and fighting there. Since the Kokon-Horay gives you its own D-Counter that is seperate from the one in the normal game, you can charge that up to as high as you want, then leave and have the D-Counter set back to where it was. Now, going down too far will just waste time and other things you don't have to spare, so just stop at B1, with the Nugget family. The Papa Nugget is worth 900 exp on his own, and with Mama Nugget and a bunch of regular Nuggets, you can get about 970 or so exp from the fight. To get the massive party exp bonus, since you'll be at level 1, have Ryu transform and use D-Breath to kill as many at the same time as he can. If you have them all grouped together, you can usually kill them all in one breath. If you manage to get 5-7 Nuggets (including Papa and maybe Mama) all in the battle, you can get anywhere from about a 120-168% rating bonus, meaning you'll walk away with anywhere from 1200-1600 party exp. Once you do that, just leave the level via the fairy in the corner and then go back in to repeat the process. The downside to this process is that it will take a very long time to do, and you can only do it once your ants have dug down to the Kokon- Horay. Other than that, it works just as well as the other one without the Save and SOL penalties. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10.B: Rafflesia Trick I apologize for any confusion associated with this trick. I've received several emails telling me that there is a cap to the amount of Exp the Rafflesia will give you. Because of that this part will be removed from the guide entirely in the next update and probably put into another section with other enemies that have a limited exp raising potential. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10.C: Equipment This isn't really a trick, but it's worth mentioning anyways. You can have 3 different weapons available with their own sets of skills selected, meaning that if you want to, you can have all of your skills accessable in battle by putting one set on one weapon, another on the second, and your remaining skills on the last one. To switch the weapons in battle, press the R2 button during a characters' turn, then press X to go to their equip screen. If you don't remember which weapon has what on it, press the O button to see a list of the skills that weapon has. Just make sure you select the right weapon, because you can only change equipment one time each round. You can also do this with your shield (and armor too, but that can't have skills on it), but it follows the same rules of having only one change per round, so you'll have to switch it at the same time as your weapon. ============================================================================= 11: FAQ Q Where is the Dragonblade? A The Dragonblade can be found only in a clear game, in the Genic Processor where Ryu and Bosch first see Odjn. To get to it go the oppossite direction from the door into the lab, you'll wind up at a staircase, go down and the Dragonblade is in that lower area (it's on the other side of Odjn). Q Is there any way to lower your D-Counter? A Aside from using the SOL system to restore or restart, or clearing the game, no. Q What does having a higher D-Ratio do? A It allows you to access areas of the game that would normally be locked. Q How many times do I have to play through the game to see the whole story? A On either your 3rd or 4th time through the game, the whole thing will be shown. Q How do I get a higher D-Ratio? A Beat the game faster, do the Kokon-Horay, level your characters, get all the blue treasure chests, visit every area of the map, and get the Ex round in battle. I don't remember if there are other factors, but those are the main ones. ============================================================================= 12: Acknowledgements --- Most current version of guide always available at www.gamefaqs.com --- Sites with permission to display guide: www.gamefaqs.com Mike, my best friend... aww...
