INTRODUCTION G0100 =============================================================================== Welcome to 'UFO: A Day in the Life' for the Playstation, released by ASCII Entertainment in 1999. The game was developed by Lovedelic, more famous for their "Moon" RPG on the Playstation and later becoming Skip Ltd. and developing for the GameCube, Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS. The game is mainly in Japanese but for some outputs, but the core game is easy to grasp by just looking at buttons and you will probably only misunderstand some goals the game sets, or explanation why the photos you took are not correct. Suggestions, comments or errors - tell me about it. Enjoy! =============================================================================== 02.) BASICS G0200 =============================================================================== Flow: ````` As you start the game you will be given instructions by a big alien. Everything in the game is written in hiragana and katakana thus making it kind of hard to decipher sometimes. I suppose they chose to leave out kanji because they are aliens talking and have funny accents at times. From the hub, go to the large screen on the right and watch the introduction video from "mama" about your goal to find 50 passengers (fellow aliens) hiding in various sections of the house and appearing only at certain times. Go to the central screen which is your zone selection. There are nine zones to pick from but at the beginning you are stuck with just 1 open time slot. ROKA 201 202 203 205 101 102 103 105 Note that ROKA is the outdoor area and it has three floors which I will be calling 1F, 2F and 3F respectively. All rooms connect from this location but you cannot directly enter the rooms as an alien and have to warp around by using the menu command instead. Go to the first zone and find the alien (a rather easy start). Each scene is about 1 minute and has a 3-2-1 countdown for your time. You are allowed 10 shots before automatically returning to the mothership. O for bringing up camera square, press O again to take photo or X to cancel. Naturally you move around around the scene with the D-pad and move the camera square around with the D-pad once it is open. You cannot move the alien once the camera has been pointed and you have a limited range from your position. If you cannot reach the spot you want, cancel and move closer before trying again. If you think you got the right photo already or the alien is gone then you can return to the mothership early from the menu by pressing /\ (where you can also look at photos, return to scene or move to another location). By taking the correct photo you can go develop it with the big alien from the beginning. Having found all correct photots for that particular passenger the game will start a sequence that unlocks additional time zones at other areas of the house. This cycle continues until the end of the game. Finding aliens is kind of linear but most of the time you have some choices. Many zones do not have any passengers to find but just show the story of the household members. Each zone has their mini-story, whether it is a hacker on his machines, a senior member with his bodyguards getting harassed by a killer or the parents having a row, not to forget the artist and his integrity. It can be fun to watch all the scenes or follow a person around as they move about the house. If you have found one of several required photos for a particular passenger the big alien will inform you how many you have left to find. Finding just one photo does not open any new zones and only helps to shave off the requirements for that passenger's total. There are also five hidden sailors in the house. The game does not tell you this at first but once you find one there will be a scene at mama's screen telling you find all five. You need to find these guys while looking for other passengers since they will unlock zones as well. You also get a messenger after capturing all five of these, unlocking an 11PM time slot (do NOT go to such a time zone until you have rescued all passengers!!) and finding all passengers will move on to the finale. In the finale you are asked to find 9 black cosmo terrorists. These bombs are hidden in the house, one per room. You can actually choose to end the game by telling mama to lift off before finding all but it is not the proper ending to the game. Nevertheless you should find all and then request a lift-off instead. Hub Layout: (outer ring is connected by up/down direction too) ======= O is center warp pad (you only arrive here) 1[ ]2 [] memory slot O ]3 1=passenger list incomplete/complete [ ] 2=mama screen 3=photo development As you find passengers they will populate the seat at the bottom area. Sailors will be spotted around the hub as well and the black cosmos will be piled up at the left side. The zone selection has a confusing 0-24 hour cycle as well as AM/PM style. If you are familiar with both concepts then this is not a problem. If you are confused then think of 13:00 being 1PM, 14:00 being 2PM and so on. The time zone's have different looks depending on their status. Rapid movement means you found a partial clue at this location and this passenger needs to have further shots taken of. This does not indicate if the location must be the same or another place. A solid block just means you found something here but does not mean the location is done (only very few have more than 1 though). Tips: ````` If you are unclear where to take the picture, just point somewhere you think is plausible and take some photos. There is no limit on these and at least you will find out more about the area. If you are looking for passengers on your own, you definately want to use the alien sensor. It indicates an alien is present but does not say when the right time to take a photo is. For this you need to check into visual and audio effects. For example, somebody quickly turning their head towards a spot on the screen might mean they have seen a "ghost", or there is a noise coming from the speakers. There are a few tricky ones that span multi-location and one thing happening at one location actually triggers the passenger pose at another one. Although there are a few location with more than one alien it would be easier to concentrate on one at a time. Not only do you get 10 fresh shots to take but also repositioning will maybe cause you to miss it. It is also not a big deal to come back for another try. If you are having a hard time location a passenger then try for something else first or just watch the events, both are more fun than a frustrating alien. Some events from another location at the same time might be useful to know. If the photo does not count for anything you probably have the wrong shot. "New" alone doesn't count for the correct shot. The big alien will tell you to get better shots. =============================================================================== 03.) You need to get all photos for each passenger to complete it but there is no certain order you must do it. The correct shot is at the kick-off whistle which is still hard to capture. While it is walking take a photo (it helps if you know where it will stop). It is hard to capture the correct moment for the yellow card. レッドカード! 205 4AM After the second fight, above the white mouse showing it a red card. The other mouse is knocked down at this point. Get a shot when the costume's hat moves up. Timing is a little tight. You get another chance later if you want but frankly the start of the scene spells out YMCK and you can get all four shots quickly, and the rest of the scene randomizes the order a little. M 205 5PM When the bodybuilder spells out a 'M' (the second letter in his first move), aim for the first costume on the back wall. Get a shot when the costume's hat moves up. Aim your camera at that brown box laying on the ground. The sensor will appear early but you have to wait at least 10 seconds for it to be even close to where you want it. So take some time and then start shooting the box, shot after shot. One of these should capture the alien sitting down just on top of it and eating those white dots if you can make that out on your monitor. Check your shots and adjust your wait time accordingly. You are now waiting for a moment where it will jump up and down briefly and then jump left while looking right. Take a shot to the right of the bird at this point and you should have the tripped alien. Watch the sniper. He will take two shots. As soon as the second shot is done, take the picture. You are actually trying to capture the bullet. The sensor will flash for a millisecond and that is how much time you have. Frustrating. You want the last pose which is kind of tricky to capture. Unlocked Zone: 103 7PM-11PM メタモール しょうたい 105 9PM This is a puddle left behind by the artist (or his business partner) and can be found on the floor above the exit anytime after they have left. There is no sensor indicating its presence. Unlocked Zone: 201 8PM-11PM ペリーせんちょう ナンセイにしんろをとれ 201 8PM On top of the cans in the bottom left corner anytime the sensor is on (starts halfway between '2' and '1' timer). ニシにしんろをとれ 201 9PM On the left of the TV anytime the sensor is on (starts at '1' timer) ホクセイにしんろをとれ 201 10PM At the shelf in the top left corner of the ceiling anytime the sensor is on (starts shortly after '1' timer) ワンコ わん ROKA (1F) 10PM As soon as you land hold Left and go down the stairs, then continue to the first floor and run right until you see the whole of door 105. Quickly aim at the bottom of the door and take a picture. The guard should just be starting to move. You want the shot where the alien "dog" barks at the guard. Unlocked Zone: 205 9AM-1PM 101 10AM On top of the painting (of a donkey or something) when the sensor signals presence. Unlocked Zone: 203 10AM-12AM ROKA (3F) 5PM Above the scientists head as he stops on the left side (near the stairs) and rapidly scribbles down some notes. Unlocked Zone: 202 2PM-6PM 203 10PM In front of the short cabinet on the left side of the woman doing make-up. It only appears for a short time, best is at the third appearance and you need to shoot just before the woman turns around. I suggest aiming at the navy uniform and shoot as soon as the army uniform next to it moves. 101 11PM Aim at the three bottles to the right and shoot as soon as you see the right one move. 102 11PM Outside the window once the sensor has come online (after the bodyguards have taken the old man outside). 103 11PM Inside the switched-off monitor at the top left corner. You can see the reflection. 105 11PM On the phone in the bottom left corner when it is ringing (you can tell by the display of the phone although it does not actually ring). ENDINGS G0400 =============================================================================== There are three endings to the game. Bad Ending: Go to an 11PM zone before having rescued all 50 passengers. Normal Ending: Rescue all passengers and take off without finding black cosmos. Good Ending: Rescue all passengers and find all black cosmos. =============================================================================== 05.) CHALLENGE MODE G0500 =============================================================================== After the Good Ending's credit have rolled, make a save and you can use this to begin Challenge Mode. Challenge Mode has several changes: * 50 shot limit (per location I think) * No alien sensor (yeah...jeez) * Passengers are already listed as rescued even if you have to find them again Clearing this mode allows you more insight into mama's home and info on the residents at the house. As a lot of my instructions for finding the aliens include the alien sensor this will be tough to solve with my help even, but I did not know such a mode exists and I think if you want to challenge yourself (it is called CHALLENGE mode after all) then you do not want my help ;) =============================================================================== XX.) FAQ GXX00 =============================================================================== Q) Why does the big alien flash its eyes red? A) You took an incorrect picture of a passenger. The big guy will always explain something is wrong with the first such picture of your 10-roll of film, not for all of the rest.
