Introduction Street fighter EX2 plus is a sequel to the previous edition and apparently it is the best fighting game I have played so far. From where it stand's, the maniac mode proves to have been the most difficult mode I have played for this game, but it is not impossible to perform it. I should warn you people that I only have gotten 19 out of 24 characters in the game, so just wait for my next update. Let's get right to the guide and forget about this introduction. 2. Changes made in version 1.4 ? Added in Hokuto and Doctorine Dark MAX combo. ? Added How to bring out the Sample Video Section. ? Added in Combos to try Section 3. Controls Here's a description of the controls I will be using for easy references for you all. Directions for the controls are based to the characters facing right or in the player 1 position. 7 8 9 SP MP HP SK MK HK 4 5 6 1 2 3 1 = Downback 2 = Down 3 = Downforward 4 = Back 5 = Neutral 6 = Forward 7 = Jump Back 8 = Jump Up or Straight 9 = Jump Forward SP = Small Punch MP = Medium Punch HP = Hard Punch SK = Small Kick MP = Medium Kick HK = Hard Kick ST = Standing CR = Crouching - = Follow up with *? = Repeat a number of times 4. Maniac Time Now comes the part where you all will have to concentrate. I will provide for you in this guide for the "Maniac Mode" in Street Fighter EX2 plus the requirements, method, how, timing and who (character who was used as a punching bag) to master the art on this fine game. I will also add "possible characters" to see if the combos can be used for other characters. To start, I will now explain on how I will lay out excel sequences in how I perform it which is in this little picture below (please do NOT follow this sequence, as this is only an example); So with this order, you should perform your excel as if you could understand this, then you will have no problems to perform all the combos which I am about to list here. I will also lay out commands before starting an EXCEL such as; Jump in deep Hard Kick-EXCEL<… This will mean you should follow up with a jumping Hard Kick first to start. Another lay out that I'll use is the link combos such as the picture below; Jump in deep HK-CR-MP-CR-MK-Special moves This means that you should link your combos in this order, jumping in Hard Kick to crouching Medium Punch to crouching Medium Kick to a special move. In most of the combos there are moves involved. If you are unknown to which move I'm referring to please refer to the "Move List FAQ" that are listed at "www.GameFAQs.com". Now, on with the show. I am going to list out the guide according to the easiest character first, which means those that does not require MAX combos will start first. There will be, without any doubt that you will not succeed in the first hour for the MAX combos, but don't get discourage, I mean it took me at least 1-3 days to know exactly how the timing goes for only 1 character. So best of luck to you all and never give up. General timing. General timing are a set of timing that are used frequently to the combos I have made. Here are the lists of general timing; a) (Cancel) – cancels are a command to be used where the preferred button is not suppose to hit your opponent. In order to continue on, you have to move a little bit forward. b) (Out of EXCEL) – this is to allow an attack to be pressed within the excel mode, but it will hit your opponent out side of it. In result, it will charge up your super bar. c) Jump EXCEL – this is a timing to be used when you immediately execute the excel mode after jumping. Which mean executing the excel mode the very second you jump. d) Move half a step forward – nothing much to say here. Just remember to move a maximum of half a step and you'll be all right. e) Jumping within EXCEL – in some parts of the combo, you'll be following up a jumping attack after executing a few excel sequences. Just remember that a (cancel) command is used before doing so and you need to move slightly forward before executing it. Perform it quickly, as it is most preferred. Difficulty Level Here is a ranking that I have made to suite the combos in the Maniac Mode. These are according to my thoughts on the combo. * = Baby ** = Kid *** = Student **** = Apprentice ***** = Master WARNING: Timing is crucial to perform these combos so pay really REALLY good attention. When performing the excel sequences, sometimes I cannot explain the timing on it but this much I know, you can have some certain feelings on how to continue them. So follow your heart and let nothing get in your way to master the "Maniac Mode" the honest way. i. Sagat Requirements: Tiger Genocide-EXCEL<7 hits and above> Method: Perform a Tiger Crash first, then continue as follow. Who: Darun Possible Characters: Ryu, but change Tiger Crash to Tiger Blow (1 hit). Difficulty: * How: Do not perform this method in a corner, as a result it will fail. Keep on slamming the select button in order for this to work. Timing: After performing the Tiger Crash, perform the Tiger Genocide the second you land on the ground and you'll have no problems. Execute the excel immediately after you land from Tiger Genocide. If your wondering what sequence you should use, just add a standing Medium Kick to a few Tiger Shots to a few Tiger Blows. ii. Area Requirements: Great Cancer-EXCEL<7 hits and above> Method 1: Perform Five Star Raid first, then continue as above. Method 2: Perform Jackson Kick-Hop Kick Knee first, then continue as above. Who: Garuda. Possible Characters: All, but its such a waste of super bars. Difficulty: ** How: After performing Five Star Raid, continue Great Cancer when you are still on the ground. Timing: When connecting Great Cancer, allow only 1 hit in the process and don't let the opponent fly of like a corkscrew and you'll have no problems with this. Just add a standing Small Punch to a Few Small Humming Rush to continue on. iii. Zangief Requirements: Super Stomping-EXCEL<3 hits and above> Method: EXCEL-Super Stomping-EXCEL Who: Darun Possible Characters: None How: Best in Corner. Timing: I can't really say how the timing should be for this guy. All I can say is that you should perform the Super Stomping immediately after the crouching MP. If you are still not familiar with what I mean, watch the sample video which will be explained below. iv. Skullomania Requirements: Opponent must be left in the air for 12 seconds. Method: Skullo Ball-Ball Hit-Jump EXCEL- (Move half a step forward-SP-Move half a step forward-SP-Jump EXCEL)*2 Who: Guile. Possible Characters: Its possible to hit all characters but I don't think you'd have the chance. Difficulty: **** How: Best performed in corner. Timing: Let your opponent fly off a bit when Skullo Ball hits. This actually causes some time to be added to pass this puzzle in ease. Time yourself properly when performing the excel sequences as it will bring a proper height to continue. When continuing the 2nd and 3rd excel mode, jumping Medium Kick to jumping Hard Punch must be connected immediately while the jumping Medium Punch and jumping Hard Kick a little slowly to bring your opponent to the required height. If you think it might not work at the end of the combo, just add another Skullo Head to the end and that's it. WARNING: Please DO not rapidly press the Small Punch at every end of the excel mode as it won't work. Reason is that the opponent could fly off further then expected and you can not continue. v. Guile Requirements: Perform a combo of 135 damage or above. Easy Method: Jump in deep HK-EXCEL-SP-Sonic Boom-Opening Gambit-Double Somersault Who: Zangief. Possible Characters: None. Difficulty: *** How: Not much to say cause it's too easy. Timing: Not much to say except that you have to perform the excel sequences fast. If not, you can not follow it up. Expert and the Real Maniac Method: Method 1: Jump in deep HP-EXCEL-Move half a step forward-SP-Move half a Step Forward-SP-Jump EXCEL- Move half a step forward-SP-Move half a Step Forward-SP-Jump EXCEL-CR-MP-Sommersault Kick Who: Zangief. Possible Characters: None. Difficulty: **** How: Perform in corner Timing: When continuing the 2nd and 3rd excel mode, jumping Medium Kick to jumping Hard Punch must be connected immediately while the jumping Medium Punch and jumping Hard Kick a little slowly to bring your opponent to the required height to continue. When performing the crouching Hard Kick within the 2nd and 3rd excel mode, do it a bit slowly, as it will not connect if you do it too fast. NOTICE: Either one of these combos will work. I just put it in to show you all that there are more then one way to work the combos. Thanks to my friend Yong Jenn Tzong for teaching me the easy method (yup, I passed this puzzle with the expert. Why not you try? ^_^). v. Blanka Requirements: Perform a combo of 140 damage or above. Method: Jump HK-EXCEL-CR-MK-Vertical Roll-Beast Huricane-Ground Charge Rolling Who: Sagat. Possible Characters: None. Difficulty: **** How: When starting with a jumping Hard Kick, let it hit around the head area of Sagat. If you do not do this, you won't be close enough to perform the combo. Timing: There is a tricky part in this combo, when you continue on with the Beast Huricane (which is immediately after the Vertical Roll), make sure on your way down you will get at least 1 hit. The same goes for the Ground Charge Rolling, hold the punch button after performing it and you'll get an extra 2 hits, then release. It is a must that you perform these 2 tricky things as it will get exactly 140 damage. vi. Balrog (or better known out side of Japan as Vega) Requirements: Perform a combo of 160 damage or above. Method: Jump in deep HK-EXCEL-Super Rolling Attack-Scarlet Terror-Air catch Who: Garuda. Possible Characters: All. Difficulty: *** How: Best done in corner. Timing: Do not, I repeat, do not rapidly do the Rolling Attack move within the excel mode as it will inflict less damage. Wait till Balrog finishes the first attack then perform the second. Always allow more hits when performing the Super Rolling Attack as it inflicts more damage but don't let it hit till the end. Wait for the very last hit then cancel it with Scarlet Terror. As for the air catch, there are 2 ways to do it, catch your opponent when his still in the air or catch him immediately after he got slammed to the floor. It's your choice. vii. Sharon Requirements: Perform a combo of 185 damage or above. Method: Load Gun-Jump in deep HK-EXCEL-CR-MK-Medium Hammer Punch (1 hit)-Hell Fire-Shuttle Combination Who: Garuda. Possible Characters: Blanka, Darun and Zangief How: Perform anywhere. Difficulty: *** Timing: Perform the excel sequences as quickly and accurately as possible or it won't work. When performing the Hammer Punch move, always use the Medium Punch to get closer to your opponent. To get even closer, wait a little before continuing on with the Hell Fire Super. This is quite a must (not confirmed cause I just did it straight out of the horses mouth so to speak) as it will give the right distance to connect Shuttle Combination. Be sure that you have 3 super bars after the Load Gun super. viii. Ryu Requirements: Perform a MAX combo. Method: Jump in deep HK-EXCEL-6HP-EXCEL-6HP-EXCEL-Jump HK (out of EXCEL)-CR-MP-CR-MK-Hard Tatsumaki Senpuu Kyaku *4-Shinkuu Tatsumaki Senpuu Kyaku Who: Darun. Possible Characters: Zangief. Difficulty: ***** How: Best done in corner. Timing: I know you guys have noticed that I use a lot of cancel commands in this combo. If you have passed Blanka's combo, then you will know how the timing should go. When performing jumping attacks within excel mode, do this quickly for the first 2 excels. On the 3rd excel mode sequence, it's possible to move one step forward but it is best to move at least half a step forward after the first 2 hits. One of the hardest, most important timing you should master is the one after performing the "Forward Hard Punch (or known as 6HP after the excel mode)". Do this when you can see Ryu's arm coming back to him as it is the best. When you master this, I think you can do this combo with your eyes closed ^_^. ix. Dhalsim Requirements: Perform a MAX combo. Method: Yoga Catch-Yoga Contact-CR-MK-Yoga Blast-EXCEL- (4SP-Yoga Blast-Slide SK-Yoga Blast- EXCEL) *3-4SP-Yoga Blast- Slide SK-Yoga Blast-Slide SK-ST-SP-Jump Hp Who: Darun. Possible Characters: Zangief, not confirmed. Difficulty: ***** How: Perform anywhere as long as Yoga Catch is connected. When I mention the Slide attacks, it means the sliding attacks according to the respective buttons. Whether it is Small Kicks, Medium Kicks or Hard Kicks. Timing: When connecting excel sequences, a little timing is needed to continue the sliding Medium Kick to crouching back Hard Kick and the rest is like a hot knife cutting through butter (so to speak). Another tricky part in the combo is to continue a Slide to a Yoga Blast after the 1st Yoga Blast. The only thing you have to remember is to move a little bit forward, then continue on with the combo. x. Hokuto Requirements: Perform a MAX combo. Method: Jump in deep HK-EXCEL-Jumping HK (out of EXCEL)-CR-MP-CR-MP-Chuugeki Hou- Shougeki Ha-Renshou Geki-Jump HK-EXCEL-ST-SP-Move half a step forward-ST-SP-Jump EXCEL-Move half a step forward-ST-SP-Move half a step forward-ST-SP-Jump HK Who: Garuda Possible Characters: Zangief and Darun. How: Can be done anywhere. Difficulty: ***** Timing: I copied this exactly from the sample video of the maniac mode. Just keep watching the video and you will get the timing. xi. Doctorine Dark Requirements: Perform a Max combo Method: Hard Explosive-Jumping Crossover HP-CR-MP-Explosive Hit- EXCEL-ST-MK-Dark Wire- Dark Hold-Jump in deep HK-EXCEL-Move half a step forward-ST-SP*2-Jump EXCEL-ST- SP-ST-MP-Vertical Dark Wire Who: Garuda Possible Characters: Zangief and Darun are a big possibility but I also have this feeling that all Ryu based characters could work. How: Can be done anywhere but corners. Difficulty: ***** Timing: I also copied this from the sample video but with slight adjustments to the excel sequences. Everything you need to know including connecting the start of the combo is shown in it. xii. Cracker Jack Requirements: Jump in deep HK-Perform a MAX combo. Method: Jump in Deep HK-EXCEL-Jump HK (out of EXCEL)-CR-MP-CR-MK-Dash Upper-Home Run Hero-Jump HP-CR-MP-Jump EXCELST-SK-CR-MP-Jump EXCEL-CR-HP-Dash Upper Who: Garuda. Possible Characters: None. Difficulty: ***** How: Best performed in corner. Timing: When continuing the standing Medium Punch within the 2nd and 3rd excel (the one with the first hit column), make sure Cracker Jack's elbow area hits Garuda as it will bring you closer to him. The hardest timing to do in this combo is to follow up the jumping Hard punch to crouching Medium Punch after the Home Run Hero and also the standing Small Kick to crouching Medium Punch after the 2nd excel mode. To continue on after the Home Run Hero, jump immediately (advised to jump forward) and wait till your character reaches half of the screen and on the way down, then attack. Now, to continue on after the 2nd excel mode there isn't much timing for it. Just continue on without any doubt. This is following by my timing, if you all want to try out a timing of your own, feel free to do so. ADVICE: It is advisory for you to master these hard parts first before trying out the whole combo by performing the Dash Upper to Home Run Hero for the first part, and just the Home Run Hero for the second part. xiii. Nanase Requirements: Perform a MAX combo. Method: Yayoi Toukon Gi-Natsuki (stop behind opponent)-Jump in deep HP- CR-MP-Natsuki hit-ST-MP-Hard Tenshou Kon- {Yayoi Toukon Gi (1 hit)- Natsuki-Small Sanren Kon-Small Tenshou Kon (continuation)-Natsuki (1 hit)-Small Sanren Kon-Small Sanren Kon (continuation)-Small Tenshou Kon (continuation)} *5-Yayoi Toukon Gi (1 hit)-Natsuki-Small Tenshou Kon- Natsuki (4 hits)-Small Ryuusui Who: Darun. Possible Characters: None. Difficulty: **** How: Just remember to control Yayoi Toukon Gi and stop it behind Darun. Then continue on. Please configure the button for the 3 punches for the combo to be made easier. Timing: This combo is actually quite simple once you know the timing. Execute Yayoi Touko Gi immediately after the Hard Tenshou Kon. To continue on, my advice is to wait for the 1 hit of Yayoi Toukon Gi, then perform all Small Sanren Kon and Small Tenshou Kon with the 3 punch button (configure your buttons are advised) as it will give the same result. When you do the first Small Sanren Kon after the 1 hit of Yayoi Touko Gi, you'll be doing the Small Sanren Kon and Natsuki at the same time which places Natsuki at just the right distance to continue. Before continuing the Small Sanren Kon, move a little bit forward and make sure your opponent is just nice above the chest area of Nanase. At the last part, after performing the repeated combo 5 times, immediately perform Small Tenshou Kon at the same time with the 1 hit of Yayoi Toukon Gi as it will bring your opponent to land right in the middle of Natsuki. xiv. Pullum Purna Requirement: Perform a MAX combo. Method: (Jump HP-Drill Pulse (air)-EXCEL) *2-Jump HP-Drill Pulse (air)-EXCEL-Jump HK (out of EXCEL)- CR-MP-CR-MK-Medium Ten'el Kick-Praec Larm Who: Zangief. Possible Characters: None. Difficulty: **** How: Best performed in the corner. When performing jumping Hard Punch to Air Drill Pulse, attack with Hard Punch immediately after the jump. Timing: Like I said before, timing is of the essence. You have to perform all the excel sequences for the first 2 excels while in the excel mode to continue on. Then on the third excel, you must have the jumping Hard Kick outside of excel to charge up your super bar and that's all for Pullum. xv. Volcano Rosso Requirements: Perform a MAX combo. Method: Hard Volcanus-ST-HP- (EXCEL-Medium Volcanus (out of EXCEL)-ST-HP)*3-CR-MK- Vesuvio no Ikari Who: Zangief. Possible Characters: Darun. Difficulty: **** How: Perform anywhere as long as standing Hard Punch is connected. Please configure an excel button to ease the combo. Timing: There are no particular timing I can say to connect the standing Hard Punch with the excel mode (this is where the excel button comes in handy). After the standing Hard Punch, rapidly press that button. I can guarantee that there will never be one chance that you cannot connect it with an excel. Sometimes you can pass the combo when the last standing Hard Punch connects. If that still wont do, just carry on with the combo. xvi. Shadow Geist Requirments: Perform a MAX combo. Method: Jump in deep HP-Death Sword Kick-EXCEL-Jump HK (out of EXCEL)-CR-MP-CR-MK-Death Crusher-Death Government-ST-SP-CR-MP-Jump EXCEL- ST-SP-CR-MP-Jump Death Somersault-Super Death Crusher Who: Zangief. Possible characters: None. Difficulty: ***** How: Best performed in corner. To continue jumping Hard Punch to Death Sword Kick, you need to jump straight up instead of jumping forward as it will bring to some distance problem. Timing: When starting with jumping Hard Punch, punch above the chest area of Zangief and it will be the best timing to go on. To execute an excel after the Death Sword Kick, perform it when you see Shadow Geist finishes his move then go on. I would like to mention that the Death Government Super gives 8 hits of combo. So the timing I usually use to continue after it is to hit the standing Small Punch just after the eighth hit or exactly on the eighth hit, you choose. Now to connect the 10 Small Punches in the excel mode, you have to let Zangief drop down around the belt area of Shadow Geist and then comes your turbo fingers. You have to do these 10 hits of Small Punches cause the damage for this combo is exactly 201 units. So don't miss one of it. xvii. Kairi Requirements: Perform a MAX combo. Method: Jump in deep HP-ST-MP-Medium Mouryou Kasen-Hard Mouryou Kasen- Ryuujin Kyaku-EXCEL- (CR-MK- Medium Mouryou Kasen-Hard Mouryou Kasen-Ryuujin Kyaku-EXCEL)*2-CR-MK-Hard Mouryou Kasen*4-Shinki Hatsudou Kai Who: Zangief. Possble Characters: None. Difficulty: ***** How: Best perform in corner. Always perform the Ryuujin Kyaku with the Medium Kick. Timing: To connect the excel mode after the Ryuujin Kyaku, you need to see where the kick hits Zangief. Ryuujin Kyaku should hit around the bottom leg area of Zangief (between the feet and the knee area) then move a little bit forward (I mean like a millimeter or so) then use the excel mode. I usually go with this cause it will give a better range and timing to continue on. When you want to connect the Ryuujin Kyaku with standing Small Punch within the excel mode, the second Kairi's feet touches the floor then continue with the standing Small Punch. On the first connection of Mouryou Kasen to Ryuujin Kyaku, you have to perform Ryuujin Kyaku quickly for it will give the best result. As for the rest, perform it the same way but after moving a little bit forward after each excel mode sequences. xviii. Garuda Requirements: Perform a MAX combo. Method: Jump in deep HK-EXCEL-Soukondan (1 hit & Full Charge)-CR-HK (cancel)-Hard Gouga- Soukondan (1 hit & Full Charge)-CR-HK (cancel)-Hard Gouga Who: Sagat. Possible Characters: None. Difficulty: **** How: Can be done anywhere. When canceling the crouching Hard Kick to Hard Gouga, perform it in this order (4-1-2-HK-3-6-Hard Gouga). Perform it quickly, as it is best. Timing: Again, I have to say that you should not continue the Hard Shuuga 4 times rapidly as it won't give a lot of damage. Perform 7 hits of damage after each one of it as it is best. In order to tell whether the combo should work, you will have about a 113-117 worth of damage after the excel mode sequences. Continue Soukondan after Garuda slams to the floor from the Hard Gouga move. If you did it correctly, Sagat will get 1 hit while you are charging up Soukondan. Keep holding it untill Garuda lets it go. 5. How to bring out the sample video. There are two methods to bring out the sample video option for the maniac mode. One is declared the honest method and the other is the code method. Honest Method: Complete the Expert Mode in a total time of 36 minutes. Now a lot of people told me I must be nuts to do this in 36 minutes but they misunderstood me, when you complete all the Expert Mode tests there will be a Total Time listed beside the whole list. Just try to get that in less than 36 minutes and that's it. If you're asking for a tip on how to do this, here's a list I have made: i. Each character should be completed with a maximum time of 1 and a half-minute. ii. When performing some of the super moves in the test, you could save a lot of time by using the Guard Break immediately but not within combos. iii. Lastly, try to memorize the test if you wish. Code Method: Here's a code for all of you people that are lazy to do the sample video honestly. But there is a downside to this, u still have to bring out the maniac mode in order to watch the video. The method is: In the main menu, bring the cursor to Practice, then press start, Director, press start, Versus, press start, Arcade, press start, Option, press start, Bonus, press start, Director, press start, Versus, press start, Arcade, press start, Practice, press start. 6. Combos to try. These are some other combos that I have created. Some of these combos are easier then the original but you can just try it to give yourself a good view of doing excel combos. I'm not going to include timing and such in this section cause basically it is just the same with a different look. i. Guile Jump in deep HK-EXCEL-ST-SK-Hard Sonic Boom-Jump EXCEL-ST-SK-Hard Sonic Boom-Jump EXCEL-CR-MP-Sommersault Kick Confirmed Character: Zangief Possible Characters: All Ryu based or weight characters cause it applies to Ryu also. How: Perform anywhere. ii. Ryu Jump in deep HK-EXCEL-6HP-EXCEL-6HP-EXCEL-Jump HK (out of EXCEL)-CR-MP-CR- SK-Hard Shouryuu Ken-Shinkuu Tatsumaki Senpuu Kyaku Confirmed Character: Darun Possible Characters: Garuda How: Can be done anywhere but not in a crossover. iii. Volcano Rosso Jump in deep HP-move in close- {ST-HP-EXCEL-Medium Volcanus (out of EXCEL)}*2-ST-HP-CR-MK-Vesuvio no Ikari Confirmed Character: Zangief Possible Characters: Darun How: Can be done anywhere but not in a crossover. iv. How: Can be performed anywhere. This includes executing the jumping middle kick as a crossover. Method 2: Jump in deep HK-move in close-EXCEL-Jump HK (out of EXCEL)-ST-MP-Middle Mouryou Kasen*2-Hard Mouryou Kasen-Ryujin Kyaku-EXCEL-CR-MK-Middle Mouryou Kasen*2-Hard Mouryou Kasen-Ryujin Kyaku- EXCEL-CR-MK-Small Mouryou Kasen-Middle Mouryou Kasen-Kyaku Hougi (1 hit using the knee animation)-CR-MP-Small Mouryou Kasen*4.
