Star Ocean: The Second Story North American Version Secret Dungeon Spoilers guide Version 0.9 By Jack N. 8/1/99 To contribute info: Http://members.tripod.com/mdplayer82/starocean.html This Secret Dungeon Spoilers guide for Star Ocean: The Second Story is copyrighted to me and may not reproduced in any way without my consent. This file is freely distributed as long as the copyright remains. You may use this Spoilers guide only in its entirety, but give proper credit where it is due. I wrote this guide because I feel that the Secret Dungeon is offer quite a challenge for even the masters of the game. The puzzles in it are sometimes harder than most could imagine. They are all solvable without any help from me or anyone else if a person really spends some time comtemplating about it. But the fact is, due to the increase in the chances you meet w/ monsters than you normally would in the game, you can hardly spend time to explore the dungeon and think without being distracted by monsters. That is why I wrote this guide. The reason it is called a spoilers guide is simple. If you are a true hardcore, play 24hr a day game person, you will think of me as a fool for spilling out all the secrets to the Secret Dungeon. But like most people, I am just an average gamer (okay, maybe a little more on the hardcore side) that want to share the secrets in how to beat the certain level of the Secret Dungeon. Since comprehensive is my middle name (well, not literally), I would appreciated it if you would send me info on things I missed in the Secret Dungeon. Since I am also writing an item list, I have to use another method for you to provide me with your info. All you have to do is fill out the form on my webpage in http://members.tripod.com/mdplayer82/starocean.html and your info will be pass along to me. As always, you will get credit for anything I put on my guides or item list. The Secret Dungeon is a bonus game for gamers who's appetite for Star Ocean 2 cannot be satiate by a simple defeat of the last boss. It is a 13 levels cave made up of bonus treasures, bosses within every stage and extremely hard enemies as you progress along the way. I am sure it is common knowledge by now, but if you still don't know how to get to the Secret Dungeon, Here's how: Save at the last Save Point before you fight the last boss. Go out back to L'Aqua. Leave L'Aqua on your Synard and head for Funcity. Enter the Arena (where the audiences are) and go to the back of it. Talk to the Old man in green who tells you he can teleport you back into the past. Once you get teleported you willed be back in Arlia. In order to get backed to Funcity talk to Pigya, the Purple penguin right behind you. Anyway, leave Arlia. You will see that your Synard was teleported along with you. Ride it west to the desert with the red dot on the map and you are now right in front of the Secret Dungeon. 1.1 How this guide works I will provide description of each level accordingly. I will also provide you hints in solving the level. But if you still can't solve it, just go to the Spoiled section which is at the end of the guide for answer to how to solve each level. 1.2 Basic tips in surviving the Secret Dungeon A couple of basic tips in order to survive the Secret Dungeon. 1)Make sure you are totally stocked up. (all berries, food, resurrection bottles) 2)Make sure all your characters (the ones that you use anyway) are at level 90 or above. If they are not, hang around level 1 or 2 of the Secret Dungeon until they are. 3)Bunny shoes are important so get as many as you can before you enter. From my knowledge, you can win it in the Bunny Race in Funcity, steal it from the ticket clerk in a bunny costume, and you will also get a pair for beating the level 1 boss of the Secret Dungeon. If you can only get one pair (I assume using the last method), equip it on the character that you control because this will allow you to choose who you want to fight and get to that monster as quick as possible. Let me explain why in the next tip. 4)Magicians are almost always behind the fighters in the enemy line-up. So in order to prevent the magician from casting nasty spells like Eruption, Explosion and such, you must attack them first (this is why the bunny shoes are useful). If you are using magicians too, hope that their attack spell is faster than the enemies, so you can disrupt the enemy and prevent them from using their spells. 5)Last tip, run when you know you can't win. In fact, run unless you know what the enemy is capable of. Some enemies always have first strike at you even though you are behind them. So know your enemies. 1.3 Level 1 Heraldic Ruins Basic search and explore for this level. No puzzles. Go to the right path if you want all the treasure chest. Avoid the room with 4 red square tiles in the center in the left path until later on. I will tell you why in the spoiled section. Treasure: Fruit Nectar, Link Stock, Blueberry, Juicy Beef, Wonder Drug, Nuclear Bomb, Tri-Emplem. Enemies in this stage: Gloomwing HP 30,000 MP 0 WeirdKnight HP 23,000 MP 0 Livingarmor HP 11,800 MP 0 Strong against everything Warlock HP 14,500 MP 0 Stage boss: Dark Feathered HP 160,000 MP 0 No strengths or weaknesses Weird Knight(x2) HP 23,000 MP 0 Strong against Fire and Darkness Item recieved from boss: Bunny Shoes 1.4 Level 2 Love Alley Your first puzzle. And it is quite a hard one. You have to turn statues of lovers according to the tablet: Confessions of Maid Milene It was when Luke and the maid began their delicate story of love. Feria's passion would not allow the two to part. Lloyd continued his passion for the lonely maiden. Yufie's secret passion was for the young Lloyd. Sharon's forbidden love would never bear fruit. Cistina was alone, looking up to the sky. Tip: Concentrate on Lloyd, Sharon and Cistina. They are the ones that are the most confusing so I suggest reading the lines about them over a few times. Treasures: Purity Leaf, Reflex, Resurrection Mist, Link Combo. Enemies: Weirdaxe HP 23,500 MP 50 Cavesting HP 18,000 MP 100 Giant HP 29,000 MP 0 Huntinggel HP 20,000 MP 0 Stage boss: Blood Gerell HP 60,000 MP 0 No strengths or Weaknesses Hunting Gels(x5) HP 20,000 MP 0 No strengths or weaknesses 1.5 Level 3 Single Path Cave Another puzzle. I would say this one is not quite as hard if you picked up the meaning of the tiles the first time around. Also pay attention to the name of the stage. It literally is the key to solving the puzzle. Treasures: Slayer Ring, Fruit Nectar(x2), Sylvan Mail, Wonder Drug, Dream Crown, Juicy Beef Enemies: Weirdgoat HP 24,600 MP 500 Warlock HP 14,500 MP 500 Bloodgerell HP 60,000 MP 0 Lesserdevil HP MP Stage boss: Dream Shade(x3) HP 35,000 MP 0 item from boss: magical drops 1.6 Level 4 Dancing God Altar Things are not always what they seem to be (especially walls). Anyway, the puzzle on this stage if I remember correctly, is a goddess asking you to play a song for her. If you play songs as much as I do (violin 2) then you should be quite good at it. That's all I can say without totally giving it away. Treasures: Black Earring, Peep Non, Seraphic Garb, Fruit Nectar, Extinction, Resurrection Mist, Purity Leaf, and Extinction - A spell for Leon (The strongest spell in the game) Enemies: Punkbonk HP 37000 MP 0 Huntinggel HP 20,000 MP 0 stage boss: Mi-il37 HP 190,000 MP 0 Strong against everything 1.7 Level 5 Lady's Revenge This level is quite easy if you follow my basic tip #5 to how to survive the Secret dungeon. I also don't know if you answer the girl's questions correctly or incorrectly if it would affect the rest of the dungeon. From my experience (I met with her twice, cuz the game crashed) there is no real effect. Tip: If you see a red door(closed) before you got the weirdslayer, you went the wrong way. Go back and retrace your steps. Treasures: Wonder Drug, Fresh Syrup, Slayer Ring, Juicy Beef, Seraphic Garb, Fairy Ring, Fruit Nectar, and weirdslayer (it's not really in the treasure box) Enemies: LadyQumira HP 27500 MP 200 Dragonaxe HP 26550 MP 0 Gloomsting HP 22,500 MP 210 Dreamshade HP 35,000 MP 0 Atlus HP 30,000 MP 0 GreaterGoat HP 28,700 MP 600 stage boss: You fought it once before. Weird Beast HP 8,000,000 MP 0 Recieve the key to open the door to Lvl 6. 1.8 Level 6 Burglar's Nest This is the first stage where there is an escape panel on the floor for you to re-stock or save your game. I suggest you do so (to save) unless of course, the game never ever crashed on you before. The puzzle on this stage is not at all hard, all you have to do is check all the "funny" statues. Of course, if you know where to look... Tip: This is also the place to meet Santa, a merchant (probably have ties with the bandits) that sell you the real tri-emblem, go-home frogs, and Santa boots. He will only appear some of the times so I guess you just have to be lucky. Thanks to Daniel Hensley(SuperEther@aol.com), here is the exact prices (before you alter it with Idenitify All!, Second Ledger, or Cinderella Glass) for the items that Santa sells. I would suggest you go out and save once you got the item that you suppose to offer: Make the offering on the Altar whose portal opens with jewel's power. Treasures:Ishidaya Tea, Yukiocho Tea, Bunny Shoes, Purity Leaf, Peep Non, Tri-Emplem, Fresh Syrup, Cracked Jewel, Weird Slayer, Ganze Sea Urchin, Resurrection Mist. Enemies: Orbiterbeast HP 84,000 MP 0 Strong against light and Dark LastAvenger HP 26500 MP 200 RobinFake HP 18200 MP 0 Meirgus HP 17510 MP 590 F-thiefl99 HP 40000 MP 0 Stage boss: Mithril Eater HP 600,000 MP 0 No strengths or weaknesses recieve Million Staff from stage boss 2.0 Level 8 Food God The puzzle of this stage is simple enough. Feed the Food God (the gold wall with relief sculpture of a slug like face) the food you think is the most tasteful. I wonder if you can feed it poison? Treasures:Peep Non, Slime Jelly, Fresh Syrup, Seraphic Garb, Lavender, Soda-Pop, Wonder Drug, Ganze Sea Urchin, Amoeba Soup, Funny Slayer, Million Staff, Prime Tuna Enemies: Weirddevil HP 27,800 MP 1,400 Killergigant HP MP Dreamshade HP 35,000 MP 0 Starguarder HP 28,500 MP 0 Strong against everything Foriger HP 28,200 MP 0 Weak against Physical Stage boss: Erysin Beast HP MP item from boss: Gelatin Steak 2.1 Level 9 Sealed Coffin No puzzle here. No stage boss here too? How strange. Maybe the coffin has something to do with it. Treasures:Resurrection Mist, Wonder Drug, Valiant Boots, Artemis Leaf Enemies: weirdmalask HP 28,000 MP 100 RobinMaster HP 22,000 MP 0 Brigandogre HP 36,200 MP 0 Stage boss: Wise Sorceror(but he's not there) HP MP item recieve from the boss: Levantine sword 2.2 Level 10 Decision Point When 'tis time to choose, if crimson be the color of death and azure be the color of tranquility, which does thou wish for? Hmm, I like blue better than red but blue sound so boring and treasureless. (oops, kinda gave it away) Treasures: Bunny Shoes, Valkyrie Boots(x2), Purity Leaf, Fresh Syrup, Funny Slayer, Million Staff, Valiant Boots, Rainbow Diamond, Sage's Stone, Tri-ace(Killer Move for Ashton), Meteor Swarm(Spell for Celine) Enemies: Liveflayer HP MP Ghastricgel HP 39,000 MP 500 Mindflayer HP 66,500 MP 0 Clubgunner HP 48,500 MP 250 Miel128 HP 59,000 MP 0 Stage boss: Geo Guardian HP 400,000 MP 0 No strengths or weaknesses Item from boss:Valiant Guard 2.3 Level 11 Dragon's Nest You will meet the stage boss in the beginning of the stage. The puzzle itself is after the stage boss. There is this guy that keeps on saying you are not worthy of going thru. Hmm, if only you show him that you can get there without the others help... Treasures: None Enemies: Mind Flayer HP 66,500 MP 0 Ghastricgel HP 39,000 MP 100 Dreamshade HP 35,000 MP 0 Stage boss: Synard looking bird that calls itself a dragon Recieve Valiant Guard, and Float Combat Skill 2.4 Level 12 Hall of Warriors Now that you are all together once again, you will have to fight another immortal(so they say). There should be no real problem on this stage. But it 's time to go back to finish some unfinshed business after you slay the immortal. The tablet say: Light and darkness. Sacred and evil. The way to the Holy Alcove of Time will open when the opposites meet. Treasures: Battle Suit(x2), Valiant guard, and Bunny Shoes Enemies: Weird Mage HP MP Hellmaster HP 60,000 MP 3500 Owlbear HP 300,000 MP 100 Stage boss: Phoenix HP MP Recieve the Holy Sword Farwell from it. 2.5 Level 13 Holy nest of Angels (last level) This is another hard stage. Not because of the puzzle, but because of the stage boss. No one you have met so far to this point has as much HP as she has. No one have the speed that she has. Not to mention her one hit kill technique, which does exactly what the name says. Treasures: Valiant Guard, Valiant Mail, and Angel Armband Enemies: SoulMaster HP 50,000 MP 1,900 Dreamshade HP 35,000 MP 0 Hell-Servant HP 480,000 MP 100 Strong against Fire and Wind Rock-Demon HP MP Stage Boss: Gabrie Celesta HP 10,000,000 MP 10,000 Recieve Holy Sword Farwell and Silver Trumpet from her. 2.6 Spoiled Here it is. All the secrets in how to solve each lvl. Level 1 - The room with the four red tiles is a shortcut to the 9th flr. Just run around the back of the room and here it click four times. You will fall right thru afterward. Level 2: Milene - south Luke - north Feria - East Yufie - south Lloyd - east cistina - south sharon - west Level 3 - I will try to draw out the map as clearly as possible. legend: S - Starting point + - crossroads, perpendicular paths v - down arrow < - left arrow > - right arrow ^ - up arrow numbers - the path I took (follow the #'s) _________________________________________________ | | | | | | | | | | | +-> | <-+-> | <-+-> | <-+ | | v | | | | | | | | 4 | v 3 | v 14 | v 13 | ------------------------------------------------- | ^ | ^ | ^ | ^ | | | | | | | | | | | | | +-> | <-+-> | <-+ | | | | | | | | | | | v 5 | v 2 | v 15 | v 12 | ------------------------------------------------- | ^ | ^ | ^ | ^ | | | | | | | | | | | +-> | <-S-> | <-+-> | <-+ | | | | | 17 | | | | | | v 6 | v 1 | v 16 | v 11 | ------------------------------------------------- | ^ | ^ | ^ | ^ | | | | | | | | | | | +-> | <-+-> | <-+-> | <-+ | | | | | | | 7 | 8 | 9 | 10 | ------------------------------------------------- Level 4 - You need to have either pitch or rhythm talent in order to play correctly. I found Ashton's secret talent by playing the violin 2 song over and over again (I need it to perform perfect in alchemy to make infinite sage stones so I can sell for profit.) Level 5 - Puffy, Monster chose to help her - she says something like "am I suppose to be thankful?" chose not to help her - she says something like "I will remember that." Level 6 - lower right corner Level 7 - use metalwork to make the jewel out of the cracked gem you got from the treasure chest Level 8 - first give ganze sea urchin, then give mandrake. Puffy comes out without a really bad tummy ache. Level 9 - Bring the Holy Sword Farwell to open the coffin. But unfortunately, it was already open by the time you get there. Level 10 - Choose to go to all the path by entering and leaving this level multiple times to get all the treasures. Level 11 - Choose Claude and Rena to go alone. The door will stay open once you killed the Pheonix. Level 12 - bring both Holy Sword Farwell and Levantine sword to open the door. Level 13 - just go left then right, pushing both levers on each side. The last boss is quite hard, Here is how I beat her: Equipped one person with Bloody Armor(Dias) and just keep slicing her down till she is dead. It would also help to have Rena(for like, healing the guy with the Bloody Armor on)in your team before you fight Celesta. You can also summon the Dark side of Gabrie Celesta, which have 30,000,000 HP, with the Silver Trumpet. All you have to do is write the song evil melody with that trumpet and play it after you leave the cave (because they play this victorious song and you won't fight any enemies during that time. Hmm, I wonder if you can write that song. Also, you got to have both pitch and rythym talents to play it correctly) and you will fight her. Use the same strategy as you use to fight her so called good side(I think they are both evil)and the battle is about 3x as long due to the 3 times the health bar of the good side and you will beat her. If you use the Discovery card during the battle, you guarantee yourself of receiving either a Levantine Sword, Angel Armband or the Holy Sword Farwell. 2.7 Credits Thanks to shadowmaster@bluemail.ch for clarification on the items that you get from the Iselia queen.
