Copyright Information ================ 1. Introduction ================ BE WARNED: THIS GUIDE CONTAINS SPOILERS I had always wanted to do a guide for Silent Hill in some way, but the game has been out for about seven years now and pretty much everything had been covered. Maps, item guides, plot guides, and walkthroughs piled up to your eyeballs. I noticed, however, that no weapons guide had been posted on GameFAQs, so here I am! This guide is primarily here to help you, the reader, master combat in the game of Silent Hill and use every weapon to it's fullest potential. I'll present each weapon in this format: Weapon Name: Clip Capacity: Range: Fire Rate: Damage: Good Against: Bad Against: Obtained: Notes: Final Ranking: Now that you know how this will go, let's hop to it! ================= 2. Melee Weapons ================= 2A. Kitchen Knife Weapon Name: Kitchen Knife Clip Capacity: N/A Range: Close Melee Fire Rate: Medium Damage: Very light Good Against: Gray Children, Zombie Dogs Bad Against: Pretty much everything else Obtained: In the diner where you start the game Notes: This is indeed the worst weapon in the game. It does little damage, doesn't attack very quickly, and to use it you'll have to get very close to an enemy, meaning you'll probably get hurt as you use it. If you find yourself in a situation in which you HAVE to use the Kitchen Knife, you're better off just running away or even restarting the game. You should never have to use this weapon. Final Ranking: 1/10 2B. Lead Pipe Weapon Name: Lead Pipe Clip Capacity: N/A Range: Medium Melee Fire Rate: Medium Damage: Medium Good Against: Gray Children, Zombie Dogs Bad Against: Monkey Men, Flying enemies, Sewer Dwellers Obtained: In the alleyway you go to after you leave the diner towards the start of the game Notes: This is THE weapon to use in the school. Turning off your flashlight and sneaking up behind Gray Children will ensure a quick clear of any hallway or room in the school. It's a light and easy to use weapon. Sadly, it's not very effective in open areas or against faster enemies. You'll probably use it only in the school and be done with it afterwards. Final Ranking: 7/10 2C. Emergency Hammer Weapon Name: Emergency Hammer Clip Capacity: N/A Range: Medium Melee Fire Rate: Medium/Slow Damage: Heavy Good Against: Nurses/Doctors, Sewer Dwellers, Zombie Dogs Bad Against: Monkey Men, Flying Enemies Obtained: In the generator room of the Alternate Hospital Notes: This is the NURSE. KILLER. This weapon will put a nurse down in two hits and a doctor down in three or four. It does so much damage, in fact, that it will stun an enemy nurse or doctor, preventing them from attacking you. The Hammer will desecrate ANY monster in close quarters, but like the lead pipe, doesn't do so well in open spaces. Still, it's incredible damage makes the Emergency Hammer the BEST melee weapon in the game. Stop! Hammer time! Final Ranking: 10/10 ================== 3. Ranged Weapons ================== 3A. Handgun Weapon Name: Handgun Clip Capacity: 15 bullets Range: Preferably short, but can work at medium Fire Rate: Medium/Fast Damage: Light Good Against: Gray Children, Zombie Dogs, Flying Enemies, Monkey Men, Cockroaches, The "Lizard" Boss, The "Larva" Boss Bad Against: Last two bosses, Sewer Dwellers Obtained: Cybil gives it to you at the start of the game Notes: The handgun is the most versatile weapon in the game. It is effective against almost every monster and ammo for it runs rampant, especially in the school. It can have a very fast fire rate if you want it, but that will probably result in a lot of wasted bullets. Still, you'll be using this weapon throughout the entire game, without a doubt. Final Ranking: 8/10 3B. Shotgun Weapon Name: Shotgun Clip Capacity: 6 shells Range: Short/Medium Fire Rate: Medium Damage: Medium Good Against: EVERY boss, Gray Children, Zombie Dogs, Monkey Men, Flying Enemies, Sewer Dwellers, Nurses/Doctors Bad Against: Nothing Obtained: Found in a stall in the first floor boy's bathroom of the Alternate School Notes: This is my favorite ranged weapon in the game. With strong damage, a quick rate of fire, and a decent amount of ammo, this is perhaps the best ranged weapon in the game. Don't use it too lightly, though. Ammo doesn't come up too often and you'll want to save your shells for the bosses. Final Ranking: 9/10 3C: Hunting Rifle Weapon Name: Hunting Rifle Clip Capacity: 6 shells Range: Short/Medium/Long Fire Rate: Slow Damage: Heavy Good Against: Sewer Dwellers, EVERY boss, most other enemies (though you won't want to waste ammo on them) Bad Against: Nothing Obtained: In the pit where you fight the "Larva" Boss Notes: This is the strongest gun in the game. It packs enough punch to kill most common enemies in one or two hits, but ammo is extremely scarce. You'll only want to use this gun against the Sewer Dwellers and last three bosses, but when you do use it, blast everything you've got! Final Ranking: 8/10 ================== 4. Secret Weapons ================== 4A. Chainsaw Weapon Name: Chainsaw Clip Capacity: N/A Range: Medium Melee Fire Rate: Extremely fast Damage: Light Good Against: Nurses/Doctors, Sewer Dwellers, Zombie Dogs Bad Against: Monkey Men, Flying Enemies Obtained: After you beat the game, go to the gas station in Next Fear mode and take the Gasoline. After you have the gasoline, go to the "Cut-Rite Chainsaws" store (it should be on your map) and use the gasoline on the chainsaw. Then, take the chainsaw. Notes: This weapon looks like it packs a punch, but it has relatively low firepower. It makes up for this by dealing damage by simply being in contact with an enemy (swinging it only does extra damage on top of what's already being dealt), and you can move while using it. Sadly, it just isn't powerful enough to keep enemies from attacking you while they take damage, making it a dangerous weapon to use. To make matters worse, using the chainsaw will hurt your end-of-game ranking, so you can't use it if you're going for a high rank. Final Ranking: 7/10 4B. Rock Drill Weapon Name: Rock Drill Clip Capacity: N/A Range: Medium Melee Fire Rate: Slow Damage: Heavy Good Against: Nurses/Doctors, Sewer Dwellers Bad Against: Monkey Men, Zombie Dogs, Flying Enemies Obtained: After you beat the game, go to the gas station in Next Fear mode and take the gasoline. Then go to the first floor of the drawbridge control building and use the gasoline on the rock drill. Then, take the rock drill. Notes: The rock drill rocks (what an awful pun)! What sets it apart from the chainsaw is that instead of dealing lots of light damage at once, the rock drill deals slow and heavy blows of MASSIVE damage, and I mean MASSIVE. Just two hits from this thing will destroy any nurse, and three will easily take down a doctor. Plus, it pushes an enemy backwards, preventing them from attacking you while you keep attacking them! Unfortunately, you can't move while using this weapon, making it ineffective when nurses are ganging up on you. Also, like the chainsaw, use of this weapon will hurt your rank, so it shouldn't be used if you want to get a high rank. This would have gotten a perfect 10/10 from me if not for that. Final Rank: 9/10 4C. Hyper Blaster Weapon Name: Hyper Blaster Clip Capacity: Unlimited bullets!!! Range: Short/Medium/Long Fire Rate: Fast Damage: Variable (see Notes) Good Against: Virtually everything except bosses Bad Against: Nothing but bosses Obtained: Beat the game with a Good+ ending, then go to the convenience store at the start of your Next Fear game and take the Channeling Stone. Using the Channeling Stone, get the UFO ending. When you start the game after getting the UFO ending, you'll have the Hyper Blaster in your inventory. Notes: The Hyper Blaster is one of the best ranged weapons in the game. It has laser sighting and is deadly accurate. You'll be able to hit flying enemies through fog, even if they're off screen with the Hyper Blaster. Still, it only does as much damage as an average handgun when you first get it. You can increase the amount of damage it does by getting good ranks on future playthroughs. Getting a ranking of 8 stars or better will increase the damage to roughly the power of a shotgun, while getting a nearly impossible rank of 10 stars will turn the Hyper Blaster into a total killing machine! Sadly, just like with the chainsaw and rock drill, using this weapon will take away from your rank at the end of the game, so you can't use it if you want to achieve a good rank. 4D. Katana Weapon Name: Katana Clip Capacity: N/A Range: Long Melee Fire Rate: Fast Damage: Heavy Good Against: Anything that doesn't fly Bad Against: Flying enemies, bosses Obtained: Nobody knows for sure how to obtain the Katana, though the most widely accepted method is to get a good ending (preferably Good+), followed by a bad ending (preferably Bad+). The steps I took to get the Katana are as follows: Good+, UFO, Bad+. Once you have unlocked the Katana, it should appear in the background of your game ranking screen at the end of the game. Then, on your next playthrough, go to the house where you use the three "Keys of Eclipse" at the start of the game. When you enter, a door that was originally locked should be unlocked, leading to a Japanese-themed room with the Katana in it. Notes: The Katana is very hard to use at first. This is because whenever you use it, Harry will shoot forward like a swordsman in a Jet Li movie, slashing as he does so. You can cover great distances in this way and run around open areas a lot, but it takes some practice. However, once you have the Katana down, you're armed with one of the best melee weapons in the game. As with all the other secret weapons, use of the Katana will hurt your rank at the end of the game. Final Ranking: 8/10 ========================= 5.
