Pro Evolution Soccer 2 FAQ for PSone by BigCj34 Version 1 August 2003 -National Player names, club team names and unlockables. Version 2 October 2003 -Master League, tournaments, classic teams names added, more FAQS and secrets added Version 3 October 2003 -Minor mistakes corrected Version 4 November 2003-More detail on unlockables Version 5 December 2003-Non Contracted players added, corrections Version 6-January 2004 -Altered some national team player spellings which are too long to fit in the 10 letter space ======= Preface ======= Pro Evolution Soccer 2 is a great game on PSone, the best and most realistic football game on PSone and will be (unless EA have something up their sleeves) and the last PES you will find on PSone. This FAQ has Master League tactics proper names for stadia, teams and players and unlockables. ================ Copyright notice ================ This FAQ is exclusively for www.gamefaqs.com. This FAQ is only for reference for help on PES2 and not to be used commercially, by selling it, printing it in magazines, etc. After all, it's not fair to make money out of work that has not been produced by yourself. ======== Contents ======== 1-Stadium Names 2-International Team Player Names 3-Club Team Names 4-Master League 5-Tournaments 6-Unlockables 7-FAQS 8-Credits ================ 1. Stadium Names ================ (Thanks to Erkhes,Turuu and Didi) The stadiums on PES2 aren't these unknown stadiums belonging to unknown clubs, they are real stadiums. But what are they called? I've written the names below. Note-Stadium names can't be edited in the edit feature in the game. Key Square Stadium -Australia National Stadium, Canberra, Australia Royal Palace Stadium -Konig Boudewijn Stadion, Brussels, Belgium Flying Disk Stadium -Stade de France, Paris, France Twin Towers Stadium -Olympiastadion, Berlin, Germany Apex Stadium -Wembley, London, England White Stadium -San Siro, Milan, Italy Imperial Stadium -Olympiastadion, Munich, Germany Arena Stadium -Amsterdam Arena, Amsterdam, Holland Masters Stadium -Parc des Princes, Paris, France Pacific Plaza Stadium-Estadio Nacional, Santiago, Chile National Stadium -Saitama Stadium, Tokyo, Japan Legends Stadium -Old Trafford, Manchester, England International Stadium-Yokohama International Stadium, Yokohama, Japan Arc Stadium -Nagai Stadium, Osoka, Japan Oval Stadium -Olympic Stadium, Tokyo, Japan Club House -Hidden stadium, a training field ================================== 2. Team Player Names ================================== (Thanks to GuitarFreak86 and DWatson) The licensing on PES2 is rather poor. The reason is the makers didn't pay for a full license, so the names of teams they didn't have permission to use, so the names have to be spelt wrong. Licensing has always been a problem on PES/ISS games. Anyway, here are the real names below. It may be a good idea to change the names of Holland, Brazil, Wales, and some other countries because the names I have mentioned in the Master League are by the real names. I have included the international team names for all teams Note-The names are spelt in such a way that they fit in the 10 letter space provided. The teams which have the names spelt incorrectly on the game are marked with '*' so you know which teams to print out. The names are in the same order on the game as they are here. ------- Ireland ------- Given Staunton Breen Harte Carr Kilbane Holland Roy Keane McAteer Robb.Keane Quinn Dunne Cunningham G. These players are mostly past retired players.Find them in the Non Contracted player section. Default ML players and players who played for the team you picked and no other team can be found here. If the name is incorrect in the game, the real name is written next to it. Again you can't edit the names, but here they are:- Pagliuca Ince Bodo -Bode Ripijkac -Rapaic Malves -Alves G. Lopez Leopardo -Leonardo Dalverama-Valderama R. Baggio Signori Stonichov-Stoichkov Palermo Werah -Weah Ravanelli ================== 3. Club Team Names ================== Club teams on the PSone version of PES2 cannot be edited. To edit the players, you can only edit the players that play for a national team on the game, and that's not all of tham, so Yorke will have to stay as 'Yawke' and can only be updated via the Master League. The reason for the incorrect names is because of licensing issues, and the names are to do with the geography of the place, eg Leeds are Yorkshire. Why they called Man Utd Aragon instead of Manchester I don't know. If I find out, I shall let you know. Here are the names so you know who you're playing as. Default name Real name Aragon -Manchester United London -Arsenal Liguria -Chelsea Europort -Liverpool Yorkshire -Leeds United Highlands -Newcastle United Vasgongadas -Aston Villa Cataluna -Barcelona Navarra -Real Madrid Andalucia -Valencia Cantabria -Deportivo de la Coruna Provence -AS Monaco Languedoc -Olympique Marseille Medoc -Bordeaux Normandie -Paris Saint-Germain Rijnkanaal -Ajax Amsterdam Noordzeekanaal-Feyenoord Flandre -PSV Eindhoven Marche -Inter Milan Piemonte -Juventus Lombardia -AC Milan Umbria -Lazio Emilia -Parma Toscana -Fiarentina Abruzzi -AS Roma Westfalen -Borussia Dortmund Anhalt -Bayern Munich Ruhr -Bayer Leverkusen Peloponnisos -Olympiakos Byzantinobul -Galatasaray Marmara -Dinamo Kiev Pantagonia -Boca Juniors ============== 4. To play there, just select it from the stadium select option. For some reason, you can hear crowd chants , althgough there isn't a single spectator watching! Note-Unlocking classic teams also allows you to buy the players in Master League. ================ 5. Master League ================ The Master League is a league consisting of 2 divisions. You start off in division 2 and have to work your way up to the top of division 1. Your starting team is a team of nobodies who should be playing for a local team near you (excluding peoiple who live near big cities, near Premiership grounds). You need to build up your team buy winning and drawing games to earn money to buy them. ------------- Starting team ------------- Regardless of you being Man Utd or Aston Villa, you will always start with these players. These players are entirely fictional. I have noticed players being based on players on the game, with some name modifications, eg Ivanov is based on Bulgarian goalie Ivankov, and Harty and Baroja based on Harte and Baraja. See if you can spot any others. There is no prize, I'm telling you, it's just for fun. If you don't know what fun means buy a dictionary, if you don't have any money get a job...Anyway, here they are:- Ivanov Stromer Daric Valery Iorga Cellini Ximenes Espinas Miranda Castello Baroja Cecil Vorlander Eddington Nachtegall Harty Matt Ostwald Burchet Njord Oranges102-Huygens Kelsen Zamenhof These players are poor players. You need to win or draw matches to earn monetary points and rank points. ------------- Points System ------------- The rank points apply for divisions 1 and 2. Win =3 pts Draw=1 pt Loss=0 pts The monetary points is a different story. You get a certain amount for a win and a draw, depending on which division you are in. They follow:- Division 2 ---------- Base Boints, points you are guaranteed to have depending on the result. Win =4 base points Draw=2 base points Loss=0 base points Division 1 --------- Win =8 base points Draw=4 base points Loss=0 base points You can earn bonus points too, but only if you win. The bonus points are based on the goal differece you have eg If you win 2-0, you would get 2 points for the goal difference plus the base points. If you win 2-1, you would get 1 points, becasue it is only a difference by To work out the goal difference it is goals scored - goals let in = goal difference. So you are guaranteed 5(div 2)/9(div 1) points for a win, because the lowest win is 1-0, and 1-1 means a draw. If you get promoted out of div 2 or win div 1 you earn bonus oints. I'm not sure about 2nd in div 2 but here are the others:- Winning Division 1-40 pts Winning Division 2-25 pts -------------- Buying Players -------------- Your starting team is so poor, winning is a miracle. It is possible to win, but hard. If you are new to Master League, like me, then play on Normal mode. However, if you have done this before, regardless of on this or previous ISS/PES games, try hard mode. You can choose who goes in your division, to help you put the worst teams in your division, and the rest in div 1. If you are finding it a bit easy with your new players, don't worry! Go on to the game options in the main menu, select the memory card option, then go on to save data manager, and find the Master League icon. Load it up and change the difficulty. To earn points, you need to at lest draw. You start off with 20, and you will be doing well if you draw. Hopefully you will have eventually got enough points to buy a player. Here is a quick guide to how to buy players. Goal Keeper-10-20 pts- Poor, stick to your starting players. 20-30 pts- Rather good, worth investing on. 30+ pts- Exceptional, buy if possible. Defender-10-20 pts-Uselss, avoid buying 20-25 pts-decent, but can get better 25-30 pts-good, well worth buying 30+ pts-excellent Midfielder-10-20 pts-are you kidding? These are your starting players prices! 20-30 pts-okay, but buy if desperate. 30-40 pts-very good, a necessary buy 40+ pts-excellent Striker-10-20 pts-wouldn't even be fit for the subs bench 20-30 pts-poor to okay, can get better 30-40 pts-good to very good, worth a buy 40+ -exceptional The prices don't always reflect their statistics. I got Shevchenko for 46 pts and he was a slightly better player than Maradonna for my requirements. Always look at the statistics as well as the price. When you buy players, you don't get money for selling ones you had. They will fall into the non-contracted section, or if they play for a national team, they will go back to them. When you buy your first player, I recommend you get a striker. You need a fast one to get to the goal and score, your default ones are no good. It doesn't need to be the best, but one for your requirements. When you start earning points you will gradually start winning games, if you are good. It's not going to be that easy. When I did this, I got Roberto Carlos. Who cares if he is not a striker, he was pretty darn good! When you win games, you will gradually start building up your team. You should get a new goalkeeper early on, then start buying some midfielders, defenders and another striker. Try to avoid being ripped off. If you have created players in the edit feature, you can buy them in the Master League. All created players cost 50 points, no matter how good or bad they are. You can make a player, and raise all its statistics to 19 (the maximum stat), but that is just cheating. You can also buy classic players off the 7 bonus teams, but they need to be unlocked first. It's not all that necessary, because there are big stars there anyway, but Having Maradona and Pele is worth the effort though. In the non-contracted players section, there will be some players who you can buy. If you were, just say, Real Madrid, you will find some Real Madrid players here. You can buy players who only play for the team you selected. Instead of finding McManaman in the Real Madrid side, you will find him in this section. This is because the team you selected had their players replaced with the useless nobodies. Clubs can buy those players too though. You can also buy other players like Lenardo, George Weah, and the starting players fall into this section when released, if for some strange reason, you want to buy them back. The playerss are listed are above in the team player names section A few of the stats are inaccurate on this game, so don't buy Del Piero without examining his stats. Top 5 Best Players ------------------- Schevchenko 46 Pts. A fantastic striker, with maximum speed and a great scorer. Chilavert 32 Pts. He's a keeper, and he is good. He will also handle your set pieces. R. Carlos 36 Pts. Will play anywhere, except as a keeper. Superb speed, the first player you should buy. Davids 36 Pts. A defensive midfielder, and he is a must have for your team. Pele 50 Pts. The greatest Brazilian player? Yes, and no exception here. --------- Formation --------- To build a good team, you need good players and good tactics. Good players and bad tactics don't always do well, as they do their own thing, and bad players and good tactics mean players that won't do as their told. True, you will need a good formation for your starting players. My Formation:-4-4-2 Diamond --------------------------- O. Kahn R. Ferdinand M. Desailly S. Campbell D.Hierro E. Davids R. Carlos E.Pele V. Rivaldo A. Shevchenko L. Ronaldo Set pieces:- ------------ Corners Left- R. Giggs Corners Right-R. Giggs Free Kicks Long -R. Carlos Free Kicks Short-R. Carlos Penalty Kicks-R. Carlos Position attitude ----------------- This is the players attitude to their position. There are 3 types. Attitude Symbol to represent it Defensive __> Red Arrow Atacking <__ Green arrow Neutral - Green Dash Neutral is where the players attitude is not defensive or attacking. Set the forwards/strikers to full attacking, the defenders at full defending and the midfielders to your choice. If it is a domestic 4-4-2 formation, set the midfielders to neutral, as full attacking and full defending can leave a gaping hole in the formation. If you are using diamond formation like mine, then set the back midfielder to defensive, the middle midfielders to neutral and the forward mid to full attacking. ---------------- Gameplay Tactics ---------------- With your starting team, don't be put off if you can't score. They are a bunch of donkies, and they will be going gradually. If you can maintain a draw, then that is good. Once you get your new striker, you need to make sure he always gets the ball. If one of the other players has a good scoring oppurtunity, then take it with him. He may be able to score. It has happened to me that although I had new players, there was an occasion some of my starting players had scored. Do you know what a through ball is? No? Then read on. They can be useful. Instead of passing the ball directly to the striker, and having to do awkward dribbles around the opposition, you can do a through ball which will have a player kicking the ball, past the opposition, and then your other player collects it, dribbles with it and then hopefully scores. If you are winning through the first half, the computer will start to pressure you in the second half. That will mean they will play harder, then they may score and draw against you. If you score in the second half, they won't pressure you as much. Sometimes the computer will try to foul your best player, which is an ass really. That means they get injured, and play slowly. Quit the game if he's your only good player. If the computer has an awesome player that keeps trying to score (or does score) use one of your default players to foul them, and hopefully they will be injured. Just don't do it in real life! If your player does get injured, he may be out for a game, same with him being sent off. ---------- My ML Team ---------- So you want to know how I did it? Why are half the names spelt wrong? Don't they need a spelling test? Nope, the names that were spelt wrong wern't registered to FIFPro, their license provider. That meant they had to jumble up letters etc. so they don't get sued for using names without permission. They could've misspelt them better so they sound like the real name though. What's the Orangesxxx business about? Not only are the Dutch teams not registered to FIFPro, but legal action is to be taken for people who misspell their names. Why do the club teams not have their real names? They weren't allowed to use the real names anyway, but they could've been less sloppy by calling them the names of the cities their in, eg instead of Man Utd being called Aragon they could've called them Manchester. Also, you can't change them. And the stadiums? Not allowed to use real names. They can make it look like a real stadium, but not use the names. What they can do is to use the names of the cities their in, eg instead of calling Old Trafford Legends Stadium they could've called it Manchester. What's the Club House Stadium? It's not a stadium, all it is a field with floodlights and a club house by it. Bizzarely you can hear crowd roars, where there aren't any stands and spectators to be seen? Unlock it by winning the Konami cup. Can I edit club teams? No, you can't. That is really annoying since the squads are out of date, and clubs have bizzare names like Man Utd are called Aragon. You can edit the players who play for a National team on the game, but not players who don't eg Yorke. Also, since the game is out of date, and Ferdinand should be at Man U now, not Leeds, that too is a problem that can't be solved Who the heck are these players in the Master League, they are useless! It's ment to be like that. Any team, regardless of you Being Aston Villa or Real Madrid, the starting players are a bunch of bonzos who are very limited at what they can do. Earning points will let you buy players though. In Master League, it says your monetary points out of 200. What's that all about? Nothing happens when you get 200 points, it just means you can't exceed 200 points. So avoid getting 200 points, or you lose your money! If you can buy classic players in Master League, where are they? I can't find them. You need to unlock the respective teams, buy winning certain competitions. See the Unlockables section. The games out-of-date! Why? Of course this was released in the 2002/2003 season, but why they don't have the 2002/2003 rosters? Probably because Konami payed for a 2001/2002 season club license. You can't update the squads, there is no option which lets you. Is this game worth getting? If you have a PS2 then get PES2 on the PS2, or PES3 when it comes out. If you have ISS Pro Evolution 2 or Pro Evolution Soccer, then don't get this, it's the same. Otherwise, if you don't, then definitely get this, it's the best football game on PSone money can buy. To find what it's like, check out my review! ========== 8. Credits ========== GuitarFreak86 -for the international and classic player names, club team names and FAQS info.
