Thanks ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------Introduction--------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- So, you decided to pick up this classic Electronic Arts gem and want to know what you're getting into? Well, I can tell you right now that this is not your regular NHL hockey game. This is fast-paced, no rules, 3-on-3 action, and just happens to be my personal favourite sports game. NHL Rock the Rink was released in the year 2000 for the Sony Playstation. At the time, it provided impressive graphics, physics, and gameplay. Despite the fact that it seems outdated today, it can still provide you with a great deal of fun, since it is a very original hockey game. Once the puck is dropped, anything goes. Having trouble scoring? Just send your biggest guy into the crease to knock the goalie down. Nothing you do will land you in the penalty box. This game features several different game modes, all of which are very fun, and at times can be incredibly challenging. Start off with a lowly amateur team and work your way towards the ultimate NHL championship! At the higher levels, this game becomes very difficult. If you plan to sit down and finish the NHL Challenge in one sitting, it's going to be a long one. Do not expect to beat every team on the first try, and try to have fun, even if you're losing! This FAQ will provide you with details on each game mode, some tips and tricks, full team rosters, a list of unlockables, and a whole bunch of useful information! Oh, and in case you're wondering, the song in the intro video is Celebrity Skin by Hole. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------Gameplay----------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well, this is a hockey game, so the object of the game is to put the puck in the opposing team's net. However, unlike regular hockey games, there is not a set time limit. Instead, the first team to score a set number of goals wins the game. This game is very fast-paced. It pits two teams against each other, and each team sends three players and a goalie out to compete on the ice. There are seven players in each team, and fatigue does not play a factor. Also, this game is very hard-hitting. No matter what you do, you will not end up in the penalty box. This means that you can get away with anything, from sucker punches to interference to knocking the goalie down. Also, your players will never go down with injuries. In addition to regular hits and shots, there are also "cool" hits and shots. The cool hits are triggered at random, and when one is triggered, its name appears on the screen. The names are things like Bull Dog, Wrecking Ball, and Clothesline. The cool shots are triggered by pressing the triangle button. The cool shots called things like Tornado, Corkscrew, and Backflip. They increase your chances of scoring a goal, but can often be interrupted by an opposition's check, so make sure you have the time to get one off before hitting triangle. When you take shots, score goals, check opponents, win fights, and pass the puck multiple times in a row, you will increase your bonus meter. When your bonus meter is full, the announcer screams out "BONUS!", and for a limited time all your players are faster, stronger, and have better accuracy. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------Controls----------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- Menu ---- D-Pad - Move X - Select Square - N/A Circle - N/A Triangle - Back Start - Choose an option ------- Offense ------- D-Pad - Move your player X - Pass Square - Shoot Circle - Turbo Triangle - Cool Shot L1 - Avoid Left L2 - Taunt One R1 - Avoid Right R2 - Taunt Two / Accept fight Start - Pause Also, when taking a face off, X will pass the puck to a teammate, and the triangle button will suckerpunch or hit the opposing center. ------- Defense ------- D-Pad - Move your player X - Switch players Square - Block Shot Circle - Turbo Triangle - Big Check L1 - N/A L2 - Taunt One R1 - N/A R2 - Taunt Two / Accept Fight Start - Pause ------ Goalie ------ D-Pad - Move X - Pass Square - Shoot Circle - Speed Burst Triangle - Shot L1 - N/A L2 - N/A R1 - N/A R2 - N/A Start - Pause --------------------- Fighting - Big Player --------------------- D-Pad - N/A X - Block Square - Body Shot Circle - Uppercut Triangle - Headbutt L1 - N/A L2 - N/A R1 - N/A R2 - N/A Start - Pause ----------------------- Fighting - Small Player ----------------------- D-Pad - Move X - Block Square - Face Shot Circle - Face Shot Triangle - Low Blow L1 - N/A L2 - N/A R1 - N/A R2 - N/A Start - Pause If you win a fight, you can press X, Square, Circle, or Triangle to finish off your unconcious partner in fisticuffs. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------Game Modes---------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- There are three different game modes in Rock the Rink: Arcade, NHL Challenge, and King of the Rink. Before you start playing, you should create a user profile so that your records and assorted stats are kept. As you accumulate certain records, you will unlock rewards. ================================= Arcade =================================== When you choose to play in the Arcade mode, you can either play one- or two- player. You can play as any team that you have unlocked so far, and if you choose to play one-player, the game will pit you against a random team out of the ones that you have unlocked so far. You can choose the "Just Play" option, or you can create a new user profile. Also in Arcade mode, you can compete for the Belt, which is discussed in the Unlockables section of this FAQ. ============================ King of the Rink ============================== The King of the Rink game mode is a double elimination tournament. This mode is only open to human players, and you need at least three players to battle to be the king of the rink, but as many as eight can participate. Since it is a double elimination tournament, when one player loses twice, they are eliminated from the tournament. The winner stays in competition, and when there is only one user left, that person receives the crown and becomes the King of the Rink! There are five save slots for King of the Rink, so you don't have to play the whole tournament in one sitting. The different save slots are named "Kick Butt", "I've Got Game", "Let's Rock!", "Feel No Pain", and "Stuff It!" When you win your first King of the Rink, you will be challenged by a new team, The Reapers. If you beat this team, you will unlock them for future play. ============================= NHL Challenge ================================ Finally, the NHL Challenge is NHL Rock the Rink's major attraction. You start off as the underdog, and face real NHL teams in different championships of different difficulties. As you defeat each team, you unlock them for use in any of the three game modes. Descriptions for each team can be found in the Teams section of this FAQ. At the time this game was released, there were 28 teams in the NHL. Also, if you beat a group of teams in a specific category, you will receive new skates, sticks, or gear. Skates add to your team's speed and agility stats, sticks add to your shot power and shot accuracy stats, and gear adds to your checking and goaltending stats. Each team you face is already wearing the upgraded equipment, so their stats are significantly increased from the initial stats given in the Teams section. The following is the order in which you face each team, and how to unlock new skates, sticks, and gear, and how to advance to the next championship. --- EASY CHAMPIONSHIP --- In the easy championship, you only have to face two teams in order to get your new gear. The good equipment glows green when equipped. The following are the teams that you must face for each set: GOOD SKATES: Match #1: vs. the Atlanta Thrashers Match #2: vs. the New York Islanders After beating the Islanders, you get the good skates. These add +5 to your team's Speed stats, and +10 to your team's Agility. GOOD STICKS: Match #1: vs. the Tampa Bay Lightning Match #2: vs. the Nashville Predators After beating the Predators, you receive the good sticks. These add +5 to your shot power and +5 to your shot accuracy. GOOD GEAR: Match #1: vs. the Vancouver Canucks Match #2: vs. the Washington Capitals After winning against the Capitals, you receive the good gear. This adds +5 to your team's checking stats, and +5 to your goaltending stats. EASY CHAMPIONSHIP GAME: Once you get either the good skates, sticks, or gear, you will have the option of competing in the Easy Championship Game. I recommend that you get all three upgrades before challenging for the championship, because this team is significantly harder than the teams that you have faced so far. Also, when you compete for the championship, you must stake one of the upgrades that you have earned so far. If you lose the game, you lose the upgrade and have to earn it all over again. This means that you'll have to beat both teams that you have already triumphed over just to get your gear back. It might be more effective just to reset your game if you lose and refrain from saving, but that's certainly not the manly way to do things! Easy Championship Game: vs. the New Jersey Devils After beating the Devils, you can now compete for the Medium Championship. --- MEDIUM CHAMPIONSHIP --- In the medium championship, you now have to beat three teams in order to upgrade your equipment. As with the Easy Championship, you can challenge for the championship as soon as you receive one upgrade, but that is not recommended. These teams have higher stats, and are also set at a higher computer difficulty than the prior level of matches. The better equipment glows blue when in use. BETTER SKATES: Match #1: vs. the Calgary Flames Match #2: vs. the Montreal Canadiens Match #3: vs. the San Jose Sharks Beating the Sharks will get you the better skates. These add +5 to your speed and agility, in addition to the +5 increase that you already received from the good skates. Therefore, this equipment will add +10 to your initial stats. BETTER STICKS: Match #1: vs. the Chicago Blackhawks Match #2: vs. the New York Rangers Match #3: vs. the Edmonton Oilers After beating the Oilers, you receive the better sticks, which add an additional +5 to your shot power and shot accuracy. This +5 is on top of the +5 you already got from the good sticks, so this is a +10 improvement over your initial stats. BETTER GEAR: Match #1: vs. the Los Angeles Kings Match #2: vs. the Florida Panthers Match #3: vs. the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim The better gear adds an additional +5 to your checking and goaltending stats, so these stats will now be ten above your team's initial values. MEDIUM CHAMPIONSHIP GAME: As with the Easy Championship game, you must stake one of your new upgrades in order to compete in the medium championship game. Medium Championship Game: vs. the Detroit Red Wings These guys are tough, but after you prevail against them, you'll be ready to take on the Hard Championship. You're now well on your way to building a championship team. --- HARD CHAMPIONSHIP --- You beat Easy Mode. You beat Medium Mode. Now here's the real challenge. As the name would imply, this is going to be hard. The CPU AI is cheap - they know what to do, and employ the same tactics that you should have been using throughout the last seventeen games. They'll knock your goalie far out of the play if it helps them score, and they're quick with their one- timers and shoot very accurately. These guys are crazy good, so be prepared to lose at least a few times. You don't start off in hard mode just winning every game by five goals, so don't feel too bad when you lose. Practice will make you better, so use each loss as a learning experience. Also, in hard mode, if one team gets their bonus, then the other team's bonus meter is reduced to almost nothing. Be wary of this, because bonuses are integral at this stage in the game. If at any time you're overwhelmed by the difficulty, try using one of the better teams that you've unlocked, like the Detroit Red Wings. You will eventually want to beat the NHL Challenge with your created team, but using a better team might help you learn how to play a bit better. Once you equip a piece of red equipment, it will glow red. BEST SKATES: Match #1: vs. the Carolina Hurricanes Match #2: vs. the Ottawa Senators Match #3: vs. the Colorado Avalanche Excellent! You now have the best skates in the game. This fancy footwear adds an additional +5 to both your skating and agility stats. This means that these stats are now 15 full points above what they started as. You can now keep up with the best with these maxed out skates! BEST STICKS: Match #1: vs. the Phoenix Coyotes Match #2: vs. the St. Louis Blues Match #3: vs. the Buffalo Sabres The best sticks add an extra +10 to your shot power, and another +5 to your shot accuracy. This means that your shot power is now 20 above what it started as, and your shot accuracy is now 15 points above its initial value. Congratulations! Your team's sticks are now maxed out! BEST GEAR: Match #1: vs. the Pittsburgh Penguins Match #2: vs. the Boston Bruins Match #3: vs. the Philadelphia Flyers Once you top the Flyers, you get the best gear in the game. The gear upgrade level three adds an extra 5 points to your checking stat, and an additional 10 to your goaltending. So, you now have a checking stat that is 15 better than what you started with, and goaltending that is 20 better. HARD CHAMPIONSHIP GAME: After you collect all of the best equipment, you will be ready to face off for the Hard Championship. As with the previous Championships, you must stake one of your new upgrades in order to compete in the Hard championship game. Stake the one that you felt was the easiest to obtain, because there's a good chance of you losing this game the first couple times, so make sure that regaining your equipment won't be too much of a hassle. Hard Championship Game: vs. the Toronto Maple Leafs Uh, obviously if the game was made today, the Maple Leafs would not be your opponents in one of the most difficult matches of the game. But back when there was no salary cap in the NHL, they were actually quite the formidable opponent, and they're sure to give you a tough time here! Just be persistent and use all the tricks you've picked up in your last 26 games and you're sure to win eventually. If you need additional help, check out the tips and tricks section of this FAQ, but you probably would have picked up most of those tricks along your way. If you lose against the Leafs and don't want to have to earn the equipment that you staked all over again, just don't save your game and reload your previous save. You really shouldn't back out on a bet like that, but if you feel that it's completely necessary, go right ahead. You will eventually triumph over the evil Toronto Maple Leafs, and when you do, you will open up the final championship level. --- ULTIMATE CHAMPIONSHIP --- After you defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs, you may think that you've won. However, you have not yet completed the NHL Challenge. If you have been adding up the number of teams that you have unlocked so far, you will find that the total equals twenty-seven. There's one team left, and since this game was made in the year 2000, the most difficult challenge in the game comes from the previous year's Stanley Cup Champions - The Dallas Stars. This is the most difficult challenge in the game, so get ready to fight your way to the very top by defeating the Stars in another first to five matchup. Good luck! Ultimate Championship Game: vs. the Dallas Stars As with other championships, you must stake some equipment in order to challenge the Stars. You have to bet a level 3 piece of equipment, which is one that you earned in the hard mode. As I said earlier, these guys are really hard. Rely on all your cheapest tactics to beat them - knock their goalie down, use the one-timer, pick up garbage goals, and just do anything that will help you win this game. Try to fill up your bonus meter before they do, because the bonus will help you score goals much more easily, and if they get one, the same goes for them. If they get a bonus, they can pocket two or three goals quickly. Eventually, you'll be able to best Ed Belfour and gang, and then you will finally have completed the NHL Challenge. Well, congratulations! You managed to beat the dethrone the reigning NHL Champion Dallas Stars, and I'm sure you did so in style! Unless, of course, you're just reading ahead and didn't actually beat the game yet. In which case, I suggest that you quit slacking and get to it! Now that you have completed the NHL Challenge, check out the Unlockables section of this FAQ, and be sure to unlock all of the various rewards and then play around with them. Play the NHL Challenge with different teams, compete in some more King of the Rink tournaments, or play Arcade games and try to get the top spot on all of the record lists, which can be found in the Records section of this FAQ. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------------Teams------------------------------------ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- In NHL Rock the Rink, you can play using any one of the 40 teams. The game came out in 2000, which was before the Columbus Bluejackets and the Minnesota Wild joined the league. So if you're a Bluejackets fan, that's unfortunate. In more ways than one. Anyway, this section includes all of the teams' rosters, stats, tactics, and any other information that I felt was necessary to include. You start the game with 8 fantasy teams. There is one more unlockable fantasy team, three unlockable all-star teams, and then 28 NHL teams. The NHL teams are unlocked by defeating them in the NHL Challenge mode, and how to unlock the other teams is discussed in the Unlockables section of this FAQ. =---------------------------------= =- LEGEND -= =- # = Jersey Number -= =- Name = Player's Name -= =- Pos = Position -= =- C = Center, RW = Right Wing -= =- LW = Left Wing, G = Goalie -= =- RD = Right Defenceman -= =- LD = Left Defenceman -= =- Size: B = Big, S = Small -= =- -= =---------------------------------= As the legend indicates, a player is either big or small. Big players are harder hitters and shooters, but lack the finesse of the speedy and more accurate small players. Goaltenders are all the same size. Aside from goaltenders, positions don't really mean much because, in 3-on-3 hockey, the players don't stick to their positions very much. These rosters are segregated into the team's lines. Each team has two lines of three players. The first group of three players is the first line, and the second group is the team's second line. The seventh player on each team is the goaltender. Each line has a predefined tactic, which is also included below. ============================== Fantasy Teams =============================== As stated above, you start with eight fantasy teams, and the Reapers team can be unlocked. I would personally recommend not bothering with any of these teams. Just play one game in arcade with each team in order to unlock a reward, and create your own team to use in the NHL challenge. If you succeed with a created team, you will be rewarded, so it's definitely worth it to create a team. Creating teams is discussed in full detail later in this FAQ. ---BRIGADE--- This team is made up of army personnel. They wear green jerseys, and their logo is a tank. ============================= All-star Teams ===============================

There are three all-star teams in Rock the Rink, and each one must be
unlocked. These teams already have all of the upgraded gear upon unlocking
them, but the stats given are their stats without the gear equipped.

---World All-Stars---

These are the guys who the developers at Electronic Arts felt were the
seven best players from outside North America.

ROSTERS AND STATS FOR THE NORTH AMERICAN ALL-STARS AND THE NHL ELITE
TEAM ARE COMING SOON!!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------Team Creation---------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Instead of using one of the available fantasy teams when you start playing
Rock the Rink, you can choose to create your own team based on several
different selections. If you don't use a create team when you beat the NHL
Challenge, you won't unlock the Unlimited Turbo reward, so create a team!

You start by selecting your new team's name, and then choose a logo. The
choices for a logo are limited to the following:
LOGO 1: A wolf
LOGO 2: A plane
LOGO 3: A knight on a horse
LOGO 4: A weird-looking guy with a nosering and spiked hair

If you choose Logo 1, you will have green jerseys.
Choosing Logo 2 results in a team with red jerseys.
Choosing Logo 3 gets you blue jerseys.
Choose Logo 4, and your team will wear dark red jerseys.

After choosing a name and a logo, you can choose strategies for each of your
two lines. The choices were discussed in the Strategies section of this FAQ,
and when creating a team, each tactic has a set amount of big and small
players.

The choices of tactics, and the number of big and small players are as
follows, where S is a small finesse player and B is a big player.

RUN THE GOALIE = SSB
ONE-TIMER = BSS
BUZZ THE NET = BSB
GIVE AND GO = SBB
CHAOS IN THE SLOT = BBB
THE WHEEL = SBS
ONE MAN SHOW = BBS
PASSING FRENZY = SSS

My preferred tactic for my first line is one-timer, but different people's
playing styles vary, so test out the different tactics before finalizing
your team.

The names of your team members are automatically generated. The following
is a list of possibilities, but this list is not yet compreshensive:

Goaltender: Andy Arrow

Miscellaneous names: Paul Pummel, Rick McQuick, Frank Faster, Bud Beefsteak,
Lou Angryman, Scott Scuttle, Jacques Rocket, Lou Lively, Hal Hurt, Sean
Swift, Johnny Fester, Harley Headcase,

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------Strategies----------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Each line of three players has a specific strategy concerning how they play
their game. There are eight different tactics that a line can employ. The
following are the various strategies, along with a brief description found
in game:

RUN THE GOALIE
Make one of the wingers hit the goalie and then let fly with a shot. You'll
be in great position to pop in a rebound with the goalie lying on his face.

ONE-TIMER
Similar to Passing Frenzy, this strategy is a little more conservative in
that you're less likely to get caught for a breakaway if you turn the puck
over. Move the puck around to a player for the one-timer and see what
happens!

BUZZ THE NET
Work the puck between the two highest players and let the "buzzer" get into
position. When he's at the front of the net, it's a good time to shoot. He
just might get a deflection or a rebound.

GIVE AND GO
After a player passes the puck, he’ll go for the front of the net. Pass to
him for the one-timer or shoot when he's in position for a deflection or
rebound.

CHAOS IN THE SLOT
Get the puck to one of the wingers and wait for the guy in the middle to
get open. Hit him for a quick one-timer in the slot.

THE WHEEL
Imagine the puck carrier is at the edge of a wheel in the offensive zone.
The other two players will move around the wheel in the same direction as
the puck carrier. Wait until you have a player in position for a one-timer,
or shoot when a player is in position for a rebound.

ONE MAN SHOW
Take advantage of the open ice created by the two players dedicated to
knocking down nearby defenders, and go for the net where a good deke just
might pay off with a goal.

PASSING FRENZY
Pass the puck around quickly until you've got a player open for the big
one-timer. The defense won't be able to keep up with those quick passes.

Out of the above strategies, my personal favourite is One-Timer. One-Timers
are incredibly effective in this game, and having a line equipped solely
for them will help you out tenfold. One Man Show is also an excellent
tactic. All of the others are effective in their own ways, and the best
idea is to practice with each one to find the best fit for your style of
play.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------Tips and Tricks--------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here are several tips that will help you win the NHL Challenge:

- Use the One-Timer! Use it a lot. Charge down the right or left wing, and
when one of your teammates is close to the opposite side of the net, pass it
to him and shoot the puck as soon as he receives it. This works incredibly
well in Rock the Rink, and is the ultimate offensive strategy. This can also
be effective when you couple the one-timer with the give-and-go. To perform
a give-and-go, hold on to the pass button so that your player passes the
puck and then receives it back, then take your one-time shot, and hopefully
you will have caught the goaltender off guard for an ever-useful goal.

- Knock the goalie down! Having trouble getting the puck past the
goaltender? Send in one of your big guys to check him and knock him down,
then shovel the puck in the net while the goalie is down and out.

- Deke! Use your L1 and R1 buttons to deke the goalie, leaving more net
open for you to shoot the puck in. Normally, these buttons will just cause
your player to shift to the left or right, but when you're holding in the
turbo button it will cause your player to perform a spin-o-rama move. These
are difficult techniques to master, but once you get a grip on them, they
will prove to be very useful.

- Collect bonuses! You can get a bonus by passing, hitting, scoring goals,
and winning fights. The bonus lasts for around 15 seconds, and while you
have one, all of your stats are increased - you skate faster, hit harder,
and can score more easily. Get bonuses as often as you can, it always helps.

- Use your upgrades. This one should be obvious - once you have unlocked
upgrades in the NHL Challenge mode, make sure that you put them to good use!
Upgraded equipment significantly adds to your stats, and will help you
greatly in your cause of winning the ultimate challenge.

- Reset your game! If you lose a championship and really don't want to have
to go through the gruelling task of earning your gear all over again, just
don't save the game. You won't be a real man anymore, but at least you'll
save some of your precious time (and tears) in the process.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------Options------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

You can customize many aspects of Rock the Rink after selecting Options from
the main menu. You can also adjust several of these settings while playing.
The following are the different options and the possible selections for
each one:

DIFFICULTY
This changes the difficulty of the computer-controlled opponents.
The choices for difficulty are Easy, Medium, and Hard.

LENGTH
You can specify the number of goals it will take to win a game.
Your choices are First to 5, First to 7, First to 10, First to 12, First to
15, and First to 20.

HELP BOXES
You can choose to turn help boxes on or off. These boxes give you tips on
how to play the game, and they aren't intrusive or anything, so you might
as well just keep them turned on.

CAMERA
Here, you can customize the camera angle. The default is low, but the other
choices are Rock the Rink (RTR) and High.

REVERSE CAMERA
This option simply switches which end each team appears to be attempting to
score on.

CATCHUP LOGIC
You can turn catchup logic on or off, and when turned on, it will become
easier for the computer players to quickly come back from deficits when they
are down a couple goals.

SHOT CLOCK
You can turn the shot clock on or off. When turned on, there is a shot
clock. If your team hangs on to the puck for longer than the amount of time
on the shot clock, then the puckholder falls and loses the puck. The time
of the shot clock is dependent on the difficult mode in which you are
playing. In Easy mode, the shot clock is 12 seconds, it is 10 seconds in
Medium, and in Hard you only get 8 seconds.

VIBRATION
You can choose to turn controller vibration on or off.

Other options found here include saving and loading, viewing the game's
credits, sound options, and controller configurations. In sound options,
you can adjust the Sound Effect and Crowd Volume, the Speech and Music
Volume, which music is played, and also the sound quality.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------Unlockables---------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rock the Rink boasts a great deal of unlockables, which are attained in
many different ways, ranging from tasks as easy to losing games to ones as
difficult as scoring five hundred goals. With that said, here is the
complete list of unlockables, which totals twenty-one. Most of these
unlockables can be toggled on or off by selecting Rewards from the main
menu.

================================ The Belt ==================================

DESCRIPTION:
Upon creating a user profile, the Belt will be given to one player on a team
selected at random. The team in possession of the Belt gains a +1 in all
stats except for goaltending (and in some cases, agility), and a +6 in
fighting. The player in possession of the Belt cannot turn down a fight,
no matter what. He must defend his Belt!

HOW TO UNLOCK:
As stated above, the Belt is randomly given to one player. In order to get
the Belt all for yourself, you have to play a game against the team that
currently has it, and beat its wearer in a fight. The player with whom
you win the fight will then wear the Belt, which is visible in-game.

============================== Reapers Team ================================

DESCRIPTION:
This is a new Fantasy team called the Reapers. This team's description,
including its roster and stats, is included in the "Teams" section of this

FAQ.

HOW TO UNLOCK:
Win the game in Easy, Medium, and Hard modes.

----------------------------Announcer Quotes--------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you've played this game for even the shortest amount of time, you've
noticed how strange the announcer's sayings are. You have definitely either
laughed or groaned at least a few times thanks to this guy.

The announcer in this game is Don Taylor. He has also provided colour
commentary for two other EA Sports games, NHL 2002 and NHL 2003. He
currently works for Sportsnet in Canada, and is known for his unique
vocabulary of "Taylorisms." Here are some Taylorisms heard in Rock the Rink:

This list is not yet comprehensive, and any additions to it would be
greatly appreciated.

"Hi Folks, and welcome to the game that has more goals than a room full of
motivational speakers. Now let's get this thing started."

"That shot was... unpretentious."

"That save had a certain je ne sais quoi, although I have no idea what that
is."

"And he puts the cake in the oven! The oven of course preheated to a toasty
350 degrees."

"Nice hit by behemoth boy."

"Unusual technique on that save, but I liked it!"

"He turned on, tuned in, and got dropped!"

"Oh, he scrambled his eggs on that hit!"

"The athletic protector comes through when it counts."

"In many parts of the world, solving your problems with a fight would be
considered highly civilized. My recommendation? Don't ever go to those
places."

"Don't worry folks, this is all part of their therapy."

"Apparently these guys live in a world where your face is subject to change
without notice."

"He tattooed that shot! Possibly with I heart mum."

"And that goal has the British fans saying, 'great shot gov'ner.'"

"That save? Effective, but forgetable."

"That hit? Just plain mean."

"That save was part of a diabolical plot to overthrow the government!"

"I don't have anything to say about that goal. Maybe you should think of
something for a change."

------------------------Frequently Asked Questions--------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

There aren't really many questions that are often asked about this game, so
if you do have any questions, feel free to e-mail me and if I feel they're
good ones then I'll put them in this section.

Q: What other games are like this?

A: The NHL Hitz games are the only ones that are really similar. There are
ones available for Game Boy Advance, Gamecube, Playstation 2, and X-Box.
These games are developed by Midway. I haven't played them extensively
enough to accurately compare them to NHL Rock the Rink. Alternatively, if
you want to go oldschool, you can pick up Mutant League Hockey for the Sega
Genesis.

---

Q: Why is this game so hard?

A: The computer-controlled teams are smart. They know how to exploit tricks
to score goals, and are pretty effective at doing so. Also, the goalies seem
to get in the way of the puck quite a bit, and shots are nearly impossible
to aim.

---

Q: What happens if I lose a championship game in the NHL Challenge?

A: In order to participate in a championship game, you must stake a piece
of gear that you earned at that level. If you lose, you lose your gear and
must beat the three (or two, in easy mode) teams that you had already beaten
in order to regain your prized equipment.
