INTRODUCTION G0100 =============================================================================== Welcome to 'The Wing of Madoola' for the NES, released by Sunsoft in 1986. Suggestions, comments or errors - tell me about it. Enjoy! =============================================================================== 02.) BASICS G0200 =============================================================================== The aim of the game is to get Lucia through all 16 stages, beating a boss in each one and to collect the crystal ball guarded by said foe. With that in hand you can move on to the next stage. On the way you will find new weapons, items and upgrades to help with the quest. Between stages you get to see your current stats. You start out with 1000 HP and MP but can build on that with items. The list is what you have found so far, each one having 3 upgrades. You already start out with the basic sword. The max HP and MP is 5000. MP automatically refreshes with each stage, HP does not. Be careful that you always take the crystal ball when you defeat the level's boss (not counting the final boss). If you forget about this, you're screwed. Controls: ````````` A Jump B Attack DOWN + A Fly (only with Wing of Madoola) START Pause SELECT During Pause, changes your weapon It is very important that you learn how to jump well. If there are two platforms not too far from each other, do not bump your head into the top one but instead jump around to the side and then maneuver on the upper platform. Weird physics, I know, but this saves tons of time and often health. Display: ```````` There are two small boxes on-screen. The orange one at the top shows your current HP, whereas the red one at the bottom displays the MP amount available. When you pause the game with START there is another item displayed which is your current weapon. At this point, use the SELECT button to cycle through the available items. Secret: ``````` Normally when you die it is game over. It brings you back to the title screen and that is that. However, if you die on Stage 2 or higher, when it brings you back to the title screen hold Select and press Start. You will be brought to a screen that asks where you want to continue from. You can choose any stage up to the one you died at, but not higher. [Thanks to AdamL for this secret posted on GameFAQs.] =============================================================================== 03.) STAGES G0300 =============================================================================== Stage 1: ````````` At the start of the game your sword is very weak. It is better to jump and dodge enemies for now, you will get your revenge soon though. Go right and take the first steps down. There is a little trick you can make use if you feel like killing anything, you might even have to kill the reptile if it blocks the doorway. Stand on the ladder so your sword just reaches the enemy above. If positioned correctly you can kill it without taking damage. In this first cave you can find BOOTS. Back outside, go a little right and down to the next cave for your first SWORD upgrade. You may now kill the enemies with ease. Soon you will reach the third ladder. BOSS: Egg His movements are easy to see. It will look both ways twice and then hop over your side twice. Thanks to your new sword upgrade it shouldn't even get the chance to do so, however, as you will kill it with 4 hits. Grab the CRYSTAL BALL in the next room and return outside. Continue right past the jellyfish and quickly enter the door before they become too many. Stage 2: ````````` Move forward until you exit this small valley, when you have to climb a steep hill you will see a cave on the right side. Inside you will find the BOOTS required to jump up there. Go through the gate at the end and continue right. Jump over the first waterfall. If you fall down you can go left and warp back to the start. Do not drop down the second waterfall either, there are two items down there (SCROLL, APPLE) but they will get you killed while attempting to reach them. When you reach another hill to climb, go right into the cave. BOSS: Skeleton Go left and stand on the platform. The boss will jump up to your height and then start hacking away. After 9 hits he's dead. Grab the CRYSTAL BALL and we're out of here. The exit is just at the top. Stage 3: ````````` Walk right and go down the first ladder you see. Take the next ladder down as well. If you go right and down another letter you will eventually end up at a room with an APPLE. Don't bother. Instead go left and climb the ladder to the warp. Climb down the ladder on the far right and then run over to the left side to find a room with the second SWORD upgrade. Go down another ladder, continue right and jump the gap to other side. If you fell, you can climb back up the columns. Climb up both vines to the room with the FLAME SWORD. Drop down to the highest platform and walk right to another room. BOSS: Knight Equip your new flame sword and walk towards him. As soon as he's in sight, blast three times towards him. Then turn around and dash back left to get some distance and do another three hits. Continue this one more time and he will fall. Just stay clear of his fireball, it doesn't have much distance but takes off 400 in one go. Grab the CRYSTAL BALL when done. Back outside, go left and drop down all the way to the ground. Continue left past the last few enemies and soon you shall find a ladder that goes up and the exit is on the right. Stage 4: ````````` As you start, drop down and then drop down a little bit more on the right side. There is a ladder on the left that leads to a FOUNTAIN should you need it. The path continues right further down. Climb the ladder to the room with the final BOOTS, you can now really jump high. Continue right along the columns and ascend the ladder. The first ladder on the left has a SCROLL at the top, recovering your magic. Continue left and up another ladder. Go up two short ivy to find a MAGIC BOMB. Go back down both ivy strands and up another one further right. BOSS: Snake Woman Kind of pathetic. Advance left and it will soon start dashing towards you. You could either hit it and jump up so it passes by, then re-appears from the left side. If you advance too far left it will come from the other side. Much easier is to equip the basic sword and hit it continuously. One hit will stun it at the spot, so after a dozen hits it will die. Take the CRYSTAL BALL as usual. Outside, go back down the ivy and then ascend the short one on the right. Continue right and up the long ladder that leads to the outside. Walk right in both screens to find the exit. Stage 5: ````````` Go left and up to the next floor. The ladder on the right leads to a POT. Go up another floor and use the warp. Enter the chamber on the right. BOSS: Dinosaur Just like the previous (pathetic boss), use your basic sword to hit away any HP he's got. Nothing to it. He might come in flying, but that shouldn't be hard to adapt to. CRYSTAL BALL here we come. When you get back through the warp, get past the shaft and continue right up a ladder. There are two room coming up, containing useful items (FLAME SWORD, SPELL BOOK). Descend the next ladder and drop down this long shaft. At the bottom, go left and exit. Stage 6: ````````` Go right and descend the first ladder if you want to refresh at the FOUNTAIN. The next cave leads to a POT. Return to the fountain if you wish to get more HP back, otherwise warp to the next area. Grab the SPELL BOOK inside the cave, then jump over the rocks. It is a little tricky with all the slimes surrounding you. Should you fall down, warp back to the start. Across the waterfall, get the BOUND BALL inside the cave and then warp to the next area. Get across the broken bridge and the rocks to find another cave. Falling down will result having to warp back to the start. BOSS: Propeller Equip the Magic Bomb and blast away while he thinks it is safe flying around. Grab the CRYSTAL BALL. The ball is at the top of the hill. Stage 7: ````````` Go right and miss out on the first two chasms. Drop down the third on to find the SEALED BALL in the room. Climb up on the right and drop down the long chasm all the way to the bottom. Go left and find the SWORD upgrade in the first room. The second room has the boss. BOSS: Gold Dragon This is actually the first tough boss. One way to deal with him is equipping the Sealed Ball while he is chasing you through the room. If you stay just far enough away but not too far, bot of his fire balls will miss. Once you reach the left end you need to jump up and then start going right. By the time you reach the right end he should be dead. Get the CRYSTAL BALL on the right before leaving. To recover some MP, enter the room on the left (SCROLL) before continuing to the right side. There is also a room on the right that has an APPLE. Climb the rest of the way to the exit. Stage 8: ````````` Go right past the warp and climb the ladder. Go left and ascend to the boss. BOSS: Bunyon This is only one of the larger ones, with just over 1600 HP. I use the Flame Sword to hit it from far away. By the time you get to the left side, jump over the top and then start hitting it from the right side. Kind of like the previous boss. Don't forget about the CRYSTAL BALL. Go left and warp to the top floor. Descend the ladder on either side and find the room just below the one you were just in, it contains an APPLE. Go back up and walk right, jump over the exit door for now. The first room has a chick which when touched, gives you a keyword that was used in a prize competition back in 1986. The room after that has a MAGIC SWORD upgrade. Now return to the left and exit. Stage 9: ````````` Avoid enemies as best as you can while you walk right. Get the SHIELD BALL upgrade from the first cave and warp to the next area. When you reach the ruins, enter the first room to find a FOUNTAIN and then enter the second. BOSS: Dog Similar to a couple of earlier bosses, this guy likes to run from left to right like a dog. If he goes too far off screen he might come up from the opposite side. Use the FLAME SHIELD to hit it, jump up and turn around. Continue until he's dead. Grab the CRYSTAL BALL before leaving. Walk right and find the FLASH inside the cave, then leave on the right. There are a couple of previous bosses in your way though. Stage 10: ````````` Walk right and descend the ladder. Go left and drop down one floor. Continue right until reaching the door. BOSS: 50 Reptiles I use the Flame Sword, because the Magic Ball uses a bit too much MP. There are only a few of these on-screen at the same time, so walk around when they are all gone as they might not be all gone yet. If you think they are all dead, enter the left door for the CRYSTAL BALL. Return all the way left and drop down the shaft. Walk right and drop down a bit more. On the left is a room with a FLASH upgrade. Back up, continue right and grab the MAGIC BOMB upgrade. Return to the shaft and up two floors. Walk all the way to the other side and first drop down for a FOUNTAIN, then climb to the top to exit. Stage 11: ````````` Walk right, jump over the warp for now and enter the door at the top to find the SMASHER. Return to the left and this time warp up. Go right and kill the eggs, then descend the ladder to find another warp. Walk right and grab the MAGIC BOMB upgrade as well as the POT from the rooms here. Continue up the steps until you see a wide opening on the left with a broken window. Take this to a room. BOSS: Bunyon Unlike the previous boss, this one will split into small balls when enough damage has been dealt. The best way to defeat it is the Flame Sword, especially once the are split into the new forms. CRYSTAL BALL no.11. Return right and continue up the steps. At the very top, go left. Take the first warp door you get to and from here walk left. This next part is a little tricky, you must be fast but careful at the same time. The slimes like to touch you which causes a hysterical bounce from our heroin. You only need to reach the next floor and quickly enter the door to find a SPELL BOOK. The next room has a POT. Now, one more time on the left side to the next floor. Dash right to the warp to escape the slimes. Walk left to complete this stage. Stage 12: ````````` This level is tough. First walk right until platforms start to appear. Start climbing them and when they start to descend, follow them all the way to the right. By now the slimes must have started to appear, this is very tricky to stay alive and not be knocked off to the ground floor. As you climb the next few steps, a door with a SPELL BOOK is on the way. Now go down the steps on the left and after around eight platforms there is a door on the left, so don't drop down too far. The door has a BOUND BALL upgrade. Climb the stairs on the left to find a warp. Walk right past the enemies to reach a broken bridge. The last part of this is actually a trap, do not stand in the middle of that long piece. Continue right, up the ladder and all the way left to find an APPLE. Take the ladder up you just passed and go right at the top. The next ladder leads to a fight. BOSS: 6-Arm He will bump into you as soon as you walk left a little, be careful! Due to the sheer amount of HP this guy has, I think it's best you use the Flash a few times to remove his lower body. Once he starts floating, switch to the Flame Sword to kill it off. Grab the CRYSTAL BALL before leaving. Now all that's left is to dash right to the exit. Stage 13: ````````` Walk left, dodge the foe and then climb the ladder. Soon you will reach a warp. Go down the steps on the left to find another warp. From here, go left into the room with a SMASHER upgrade. Return through the warp and this time climb the steps all the way to the third warp on the right (sixth in total). Dash right and up the slope. The third door you get to has a SCROLL which you may want to leave until after the boss fight. The second one leads to a FOUNTAIN which you probably need by now, then the first door is the battle. BOSS: Big Bug Another huge HP for this boss, I again recommend Flashing him until you get too low on MP, then finishing it off with the Flame Sword. It's just quicker and avoids dodging most of his fireballs. The 13th CRYSTAL BALL is yours. Return to the warp and climb the rest of the stairs. At the top, walk right and descend the first ladder to find the exit gates. Stage 14: ````````` First off go left and up the ladder for the final BOUND BALL upgrade. Then go right and jump over all the gaps. Should you fall down, or want to fall down on purpose, you require to walk through several shafts to get where the warp up ahead would take out. There is a SCROLL and POT on the way, but it really is a huge detour. After taking the warp (or walking all the way), enter the left door for the final SMASHER upgrade and the left door for a brawl. BOSS: Bunyon Same as on Stage 11, but this time there will be two more once it is dead. Grab the 14th CRYSTAL BALL. Go back left and descend the ladder. Enter the warp at the end of the corridor and go right into the exit. Stage 15: ````````` Because you want a SPELL BOOK, first go left and through the warp after climbing the ladder. Take the adjacent warp and then climb the nearby ladder to find this item. Return all the way to the start and continue running right to another warp. You are most likely always followed by slimes, it is best to dash away and enter warps to avoid them. In that fashion, quickly take adjacent to the next floor and dash left to find a room with a FOUNTAIN. The room next to it has the final SHIELD BALL power up. Continue left to find yet another warp. First go left and ignore the long ladder. The next room has a POT. Return to the last warp you used and enter the adjacent one. Here, go right to find the boss. BOSS: Bosupaido Same as on Stage 12. Don't forget that final CRYSTAL BALL. Return left to the warp and then continue right to find the exit. Stage 16: ````````` The final stage, try not to consume any unnecessary MP. Take the last few items from the first room on the right (POT) and the two rooms on the left (FLASH, SPELL BOOK). Continue left and go up the slope. Soon you will reach a large room with blocks shaped like columns. If you fall here, you miss out on the last fountain as you need to make your way right and climb up the long ladder, then go through a few corridors and shafts to end up at the top. Instead, try not to fall and reach the other end. If you cannot see the next column, use the blocks at the ceiling as guidance as the columns are always spaced equally. Go through the corridor at the top, again not dropping down. Your reward is the FOUNTAIN. Go left and up another slope, then climb the shaft. This is the toughest part here, with often ten slimes attacking you. Equip your Shield Ball to keep them at bay and climb quickly at the same time. Go right when you can and drop down in this shaft. Pick up the Wing and fly up with Down + A. You only need to reach the platform above, but you may be unlucky and get hit by a fireball. Watch the pattern to get an idea, it's better to get hit now rather than when flying which costs another 1000MP. Check where the fireballs fly past and plan safe trip. Now climb up the boss platform, don't fly there. You have to get over to his platform, once you are there it is totally safe to stay just in the middle of where he jumps from side to side. The boss itself does not harm you, only his fireballs. You can also only hurt him at his head. Don't bother with your magic items and instead stand next to where he lands, either left or right, then jump up when he arrives at this point and slash his head. Continue until he is dead, it is quicker than you think. Note: AdamL tells me that if you left the area and come back, the dragon is gone. Don't fall into this programmer's bug, because once you pick up the Wing the enemies will disappear, all but the boss. Once the boss is gone because of the above, there is no way to die! In that case you cannot die and re-start the level... Finally, fly up to the door above, just don't bump your head. THE EVIL IS DEFEATED NOW. THE WING OF MADOOLA WILL BE BRIGHTING OVER THE WORLD FOR PEACE. YOU FINISHED THE ADVENTURE. THANK YOU FOR PLAYING AND HELPING LUCIA TO SAVE HER PRINCE. THE END =============================================================================== 04.) ENEMIES G0400 =============================================================================== Mage: ````` To kill these little buggers you have to crouch down first. They are quite slow thus not too hard to kill. HP: 80 Damage: 100 Stage: 1 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 7 / 8 / 9 / 10 / 14 Reptile: ```````` Their jumping behavior is a little hard to read, proceed with caution. HP: 210 Damage: 30 Stage: 1 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 7 / 8 / 10 / 14 Jellyfish: `````````` Their movements are just like jellyfish under water, you will see what I mean once you come across them at the end of Stage 1. HP: 90 Damage: 80 Stage: 1 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 7 / 8 / 9 / 10 / 14 Slime: `````` This rather annoying enemy will attach itself to your head similar to what you might know from Alien or Half-Life. HP: 60 Damage: 80 Stage: 3 / 4 / 5 / 7 / 8 / 10 / 14 Flame: `````` Extremely slow, can't be hit by fire. Easily avoidable but if they do hit you then it is damaging. HP: 360 Damage: 250 Stage: 3 / 4 / 5 / 7 / 8 / 9 / 14 Hyper Ghost: ```````````` Like ghosts but much faster, you notice their red color but the fast movements might also give it away.
