(Variable Geo) 2 is the latest in a string of all-female 2D fighting games that first saw daylight on the PC Engine, and since have moved on to other platforms such as the Super Famicom (SNES), PC, and Playstation. There is also an anime based on the game, and some of the PC-based titles are notorious for the "hentai" scenes that are included. No such scenes exist in the Playstation versions of the V.G. games. In this installment, Yuka and company go after the evil deeds of Miranda, Reimi's mother, and the real "brains" behind the Variable Geo Tournament. This game also introduces three new characters: Kyoko, Saki, and the sub-boss, Material. This document is a collection of the character profiles from this game, and where applicable, a description of their endings. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ============================================================================== Character Profiles ============================================================================== ============================================================================== Tamao Mitsurugi ============================================================================== Occupation: 3rd-year student at prefectural middle school "M" Age: 14 Birthdate: December 6 (Sagittarius) Bloodtype: AB Height: 150 cm Three Sizes (B-W-H): 77-53-81 (cm) Hometown: Shizuoka prefecture Fighting Skill: Karate (unknown school/style) Signature Move: Kikoudan Belongs To: Silver Parrot (part-time service) Hobbies: Collecting "Character Goods", fortune telling Favorite Things: "Yuka-senpai" (Yuka Takeuchi, the protagonist), fighting games Disliked Things: Tomatoes, karaoke Voice Actress: Chinami Nishimura Profile: A first-time participant in Variable Geo. She's catching the most attention during this tournament due to the fact that she's the youngest V.G. competitor ever. She moves before she thinks, making her a bit of a spirited, clutzy person; perhaps it is because of this reason that people tend to like her. Last year, after seeing Yuka in action, she decided to take on fighting (karate) with all the yearning in her heart; now she has taken several techniques in Yuka's style. She says that she's learned by watching others, but... Ending: Tamao wins against the one to whom she aspires, Yuka Takeuchi. After the battle, Yuka asks why Tamao is using her techniques in a way that seems like she minds other people doing so. Tamao responds that she just learned them by watching her, and a bittersweet smile crosses Yuka's face. Yuka takes Tamao in as an understudy after- ward, with a promise to compete in the next VG. Fighting Techniques: Kikoudan - A projectile in the vein of the "Hadouken", an imitation of Yuka's own technique; since it is an imitation, it does not travel full- screen (the weak variant has more in common with Dan Hibiki (Street Fighter)'s "Gadouken"). (Can be powered up into a Super Technique.) Souryuugeki - A jumping, rising uppercut in the vein of the "Shoryuken". (Can be powered up into a Super Technique.) She is beloved by both underclassmen and her classmates at school. She is a 4th-dan black-belt practicioner of Full-Contact rules karate. After the last VG, she quit going to the dojo. Now, while she mainly takes time alone to compile all that she's learned, she seems to be thinking about something. Ending: In the last battle against one Saki Shinjo, Yuka emerges as the victor. Seeing the way Saki fought opened her eyes, and forced her to put more effort into the fight. However, without losing her focus on Saki, the resurgent Yuka challenges her to another fight. She goes to the same school as Yuka and also trains in the same dojo as she does; they've become friends this way. Her personality is hot-blooded and impulsive, straight-forward. Recently, she's been teaching elementary school students at the dojo. Ending: Satomi stands victorious over Yuka, but Yuka is different than she usually is. Satomi worries that Yuka has not been fighting at 100% strength. After get- ting a lecture from Satomi's little brother Daisuke, Yuka is determined to reach those heights and more. She befriended Kyoko around this time. She speaks in a way that is almost "mannish" and tends to be blunt. She generally doesn't let her guard down to the people around her. Ending: After her victory, Chiho returns to her village. But in a move that defied her grandfather, Chiho quietly confesses that before she enters the world of the "shinobi", there are some things she wishes to do. Chiho will return to the village then, with a smile, having lived out her dreams. Fighting Techniques: Shisenken - Chiho swipes her arm backwards, and a rose-hued bullet of energy sails forward. She's argumentative and prefers to be alone. As her heritage is one splinter of Chiho's Masuda clan, she has entered VG to honor the request of Chiho's grandfather Atsuyuki, to reunite with her "old childhood friend". Kyoko doesn't especially get along with Chiho. Ending: After beating Chiho, Kyoko stands her ground. As per her orders, she seeks to bring Chiho back to her village, but decides to see Chiho, on her way out. It seems Chiho was going to leave the village, but return some years later. Kyoko and Chiho were promised to fight together as heirs to their family line, but for now they would begin to take seperate paths. Fighting Techniques: Ominaeshi - A forward palm strike. The super version combines this hit and that of the following Otokoeshi. (Can be powered up into a Super Technique.) Otokoeshi - Following the Ominaeshi, Kyoko adds an elbow strike. A "playgirl" that's always going in and out of the club. Recently she hasn't been able to get comfortable, being busy and what not, and hasn't been in the clubs very much. She normally looks to be absent minded, but uses her speedy techniques in battle to make fun of her oppo- nent. She says that it's just like her own style of dance, but... Ending: After defeating Satomi, Satomi berates Ayako for running away from home. After returning home and conversing with her mother, Ayako, as expected, turned down the responsibility of moving up to being the "iemoto" (head) of her family's traditional Japanese dancing school to much displeasure from her mother. After being dis- inherited and leaving her home behind, the spirited Ayako could be seen volunteering at disaster area... Fighting Techniques: Mach Spin - Ayako hits the ground and performs a breakdance "windmill" with both legs outstretched, then soars upward, kicking both legs into the air for the final blow. She may fight like a little kid, but the truth is that she's really a high- school student. She made the "Neko Glove" she wears on her arm herself; she's followed around locally like she lives the life of an idol. Ending: With the prize money, Manami could grant her heart's wishes. Her wish was to build a house out of sweets and candy...not just a house, but a giant palace-styled home. Soon, the house was completed, and she was elated, but the next day, it was brought down by an earthquake. Ayako and Elirin stopped by to comfort her, but Manami couldn't stop crying. Fighting Techniques: Neko Rocket Punch - Manami releases the "cat paw" gloves from her hand like a yo-yo to crash into her opponent. Gorogoro Attack - Manami curls into a little ball and rolls into her opponent. (Can be powered up into a Super Technique.) Ultra Gorogoro Attack - Manami curls into a ball and spins on the ground, before pouncing on her opponent as a tiger might. If charged long-enough, this technique does mega damage. ============================================================================== Jun Kubota ============================================================================== Occupation: First-year student (freshman) at American national uni- versity "F" Age: 18 Birthdate: November 18 (Scorpio) Bloodtype: AB Height: 172 cm Three Sizes (B-W-H): 85-60-86 (cm) Hometown: Kanagawa prefecture Fighting Skill: Wrestling Signature Move: Kubota Buster Belongs To: Ska Lark (part-time service) Hobbies: Collecting stuffed toys, watching sports games Favorite Things: Stuffed toys, Chocolate sundaes Disliked Things: Weak men, cockroaches Voice Actress: Chiharu Tezuka Profile: In high school, she was in the wrestling club. She was slated to compete in the Olympics, but after she simply called it a "pain in the neck", her career ended there. After graduating high school, she immediately left for the U.S.A. by herself. She entered national university "F" and majors in studies such as astrophysics and fluid mechanics. For this VG, Jun has come back home tempo- rarily, and put in an application at the cafe where she once used to work part-time. Ending: After beating Yuka, Jun and Yuka take a moment to breathe. This wasn't anything to do with the fight the two of them just had, but because of the strange satis- faction the two of them had participating in the VG Tournament. More than talking with each other, Jun and Yuka seem to understand each other more with fisticuffs -- perhaps that is Jun's way of expressing her true feelings. Fighting Techniques: Earthshaker - Jun punches the ground, and a wave of energy spouts out to hit the opponent. (Can be powered up into a Super Technique.) Kubota Buster - Jun grabs her opponent, then leaps skyward, bringing her opponent down in an Argentine Back Breaker (also known as the "Torture Rack"; the opponent is lying face up on Jun's shoulder). Kubota Sway - As the name implies, Jun moves out of the way to dodge an opponent's attack. Kubota Lariat - Jun rushes forward, extends her arm, and strikes her opponent across the neck and shoulders with a clothesline. Kubota Press - While airborne, Jun falls onto her opponent with a body splash (not unlike Jimmy Snuka's "Superfly Splash" or Val Venis (WWF)'s "Money Shot" attack). Nagesute German - From behind the opponent, Jun applies a waist- lock and "bridges" her body backwards, throwing her opponent onto her upper back with a German Suplex. A normal throw. Suichokurakka-shiki DDT - Jun lifts her opponent as if attempting a verrt- ical suplex, but instead drops her opponent on her head and neck. Known as the Brainbuster DDT in the West. A normal throw. Kubota Special (Super Technique) - After performing two successive German Suplexes, Jun lifts her opponent up for a Kubota Buster. Jun makes a victorious pose afterward. Kubota Shuttle (Super Technique) - Jun charges all of her strength into her fist, and rushes forward with a Kubota Lariat so powerful, her opponent goes airborne. ============================================================================== Eleanor Goldsmith ============================================================================== Occupation: Waitress at The Rival Age: 21 Birthdate: May 28 (Gemini) Bloodtype: A Height: 160 cm Three Sizes (B-W-H): 92-57-88 (cm) Hometown: Osaka metropolitan area (both parents are American) Fighting Skill: Self-styled fighting Signature Move: Elirin Fire Belongs To: The Rival Hobbies: Karaoke, watching Formula 1 racing Favorite Things: Osaka, Jun (Kubota) Disliked Things: Kantou-ben (Dialect spoken in eastern Japan, including Tokyo -- often considered "standard" Japanese), Nattou (fermented soybeans), indecisiveness Voice Actress: Miyuki Matsushita Profile: Her nickname is "Elirin (Elly-Lynn?)" (or maybe she just calls herself that?). Though her parents are both blue- eyed, blond-haired Americans, she is a naturalized, genuine resident of Osaka, raised since infancy in the Naniwa area. She holds no concept of "inside" and "out- side" and clearly states her own likes and dislikes without restraint. Her (paternal) grandmother lives in Texas, and is doing well. Ending: Elirin is happy, because now that she has defeated Jun, Jun will honor the promise she made before the fight and grant her a favor. Because Elirin can't speak English (a fact of which, because Elirin is blond-haired and blue-eyed, Jun makes fun), she wants Jun to come with her to visit her grandmother (who lives in the USA) and serve as a translator. Jun accepts, but finds out (after the fact) that Elirin really brought her to the USA to introduce Jun to her grandmother as her "girlfriend" (a claim to which Jun takes major offense once she reads Elirin's letter to her grandmother -- Jun, despite her use of masculine Japanese, insists that she is FEMALE, implying that she's not interested in other women that way). Fighting Techniques: Elirin Fire - Elirin removes the cigarette lighter from her cleavage (...) and lets loose a sizable flame onto her opponent. (Can be powered up into a Super Technique.) Elirin Tsuutenkaku-otoshi - Elirin leads in with a jumping knee lift, bring- ing her opponent airbone, then smacks her oppo- nent, bringing her down. (Can be powered up into a Super Technique.) Elirin Chop - Elirin brings down her hand (which is awash in golden-hued energy) upon her opponent while leaning over, for an overhead attack. Elirin Sanrenbu - Satomi performs two elbow strikes in succession, then extends her leg out for a shuffle side "superkick". A multi-part technique. Elirin Dynamic - A normal throw; Elrin reaches around her oppo- nent's head and neck from in front of her opponent, and tosses her forward in a "snap- mare". Elirin Smash (Super Technique) - From close range, Elirin performs a lethal, rapid-fire punching and kicking combo onto her opponent. ============================================================================== Kaori Yanase ============================================================================== Occupation: 2nd-year student at private junior college "F" Age: 19 Birthdate: September 7 (Virgo) Bloodtype: O Height: 159 cm Three Sizes (B-W-H): 84-58-87 (cm) Hometown: Chiba prefecture Fighting Skill: Tae Kwon Do Signature Move: Ressenshuu Belongs To: Mohi-kan (part-time service) Hobbies: Collecting PC correspondence (E-mail), violin Favorite Things: Onsen (hot springs), ice cream Disliked Things: Dirty (minded/acting/living) people, raw fish Voice Actress: Yuri Shiratori Profile: The runner-up in the VG tournament before last. Both times that she lost in the tournament, it was to Reimi Jahana. Since she was about 3 years old, she has been going to a Tae Kwon Do dojo, and with a prodigal fighting sense, she's amassed several trophies with her true abilities. Though, it looks like she's rather awkward with the opposite sex. The computer terminal she uses is her own personal computer (a custom made model she calls "D-G"); on it, she stores all the data on the V.G. competitors. Ending: Kaori finally wins against Reimi, one whom she could never defeat in the past, no matter what she did. Though Reimi said that today was different than before (meaning the help she had been given by the mysterious "HIRO", a man claiming to be a fan of Kaori's, before the match did not necessarily help her), Reimi gave her the iden- tity of the one with whom she had been collaborating, one Kanehiro Kijima. Kaori thanks him for helping her defeat Reimi. Fighting Techniques: Ressenshuu - Kaori performs a standing roundhouse, leaving a bullet of violet energy in its wake. On the super variant, Kaori adds a jumping spin kick and another violet bullet to follow. (Can be powered up into a Super Technique.) Enkenfu - Kaori performs a jump kick toward her opponent. The strong variant hits for 2 hits, to the weak variants one, and the super version hits for several more, ending in a mid-air downward heel thrust. (Can be powered up into a Super Technique.) Rasengeri - From above, Kaori drills into her opponent by spinning her descending frame as she kicks downward with both legs. Shuugeki - From above, Kaori stomps upon her opponent's head. Ryuurentai - Kaori's command throw; after two knee strikes, Kaori kicks upward before swinging her leg in a mid-air kick to her opponent. Retsuzandou - Kaori begins with a rapid-fire string of kicks onto her opponent, and ends with a string of mid-air stomps that carry her opponent upward, ending with a final kick to bring her down. ============================================================================== Reimi Jahana ============================================================================== Occupation: Third-year (junior) at private women's institute "S" Age: 20 Birthdate: February 27 (Aquarius) Bloodtype: B Height: 165 cm Three Sizes (B-W-H): 85-56-87 (cm) Hometown: U.S.A. She leads the Jahana group, a multi-national enterprise. However, the real power is held tightly by her mother, Miranda. Once she was taught her mother's unusual talent in martial arts, from her Japanese father, she learned the techniques of spirit through Zen meditation, and put it all together in her own way. She's proud; in her heart, mind, and to herself and others, she is a true "queen". This time she has joined VG as a regular entrant, against the wishes of the executive committee. Ending: After defeating Yuka, Reimi is back on top of the world. But upon returning to her lead position in the Jahana group, Reimi finds herself bored with the business world; during an important business meeting she rudely regards the people within, and she's scolded (rather, slapped in the face) by her subordinate, Washio. After- ward, in a conversation with her father, she asks him how he met her mother. He begins to tell the story of how he was a poor student, and she was the only daugh- ter of a wealthy family... She is a true lady of character. Her past, her nationality, and so on are a mystery. A sadistic type who takes delight in heartlessly beating her opponent down; In the preliminary contests, she drove many contestants to a point where they were unable to rise again. Ending: After defeating Reimi, Saki is pleased to see Reimi's mortified face. Though, not satisified with Reimi, who failed to live up to the hype in her eyes, Saki sets her sights on Yuka next. Who will be victorious in that battle...? Fighting Techniques: Tetsu - Saki lunges forward, raking her nails into her opponent. (Can be powered up into a Super Technique.)
