You can't get on a boat yet, because you don't have a ticket. There are two people with signs there, representing the two places you can go. You can go to Dyea or Skagway. Dyea is much calmer than Skagway, but Skagway has a crime problem. Not the best place to be. Go to downtown Seattle by clicking on the sign. Talking to the few people who live here, they tell you to buy supplies in Seattle. It's a good idea. Someone also makes note of how Seattle has almost been completely turned into a ghost town by the Yukon gold rush. Go to the ticket office. There is a choice between a banker, a carpenter, a native of the Yukon, and a reporter. The advantage of the banger is you have lots of money. He's not a very good choice, you don't need all that money, and he can't do much good. There's the carpenter. He's good at building things. You'll need to build a boat, so he may be a good choice, but in my opinion, he isn't much help, since you have lots of time to do it. The native woman is best at carrying supplies and moving on the Yukon trail, which is important, because there are only so many claims. The reporter, I'm not sure what she's good for. Anyway, click on the Yukon woman, and ask to be he partner. She is the best. She has $500, which is much more than your $350. Go get tickets. Here's the schedules of departures: ************************************************* * SKAGWAY * DYEA *Departure* ************************************************* * Al-Ki * Alliance *Aug 24 * ************************************************* *Rosalie * Yosemite *Sep 1 * ************************************************* *Willamette * Eliza Anderson *Sep 8 * ************************************************* You should get tickets on the Alliance. It goes to Dyea. It will cost $80, but it's well worth it. It's the safest, and it gets you there the fastest. Leave and go to the outfitters. Go up to the merchant, and buy the 2,400 pound outfit, the sled, and the whipsaw. Now leave and head for the wharf. There is a guy trying to sell some stuff. Most of it you don't really want. He is kind of a thief. Kind of reminds me of the Encyclopedia skit in Monty Python. Anyway, if he sells eggs, buy them. You can sell them for a profit. It's kind of funny when you let the gold sniffing gophers go, but they're no good. The folding boat will get thrown away by the ship captain, so don't buy it. Get on the boat by talking to the person holding the sign. ********************* Dyea ********************* I got to Dyea on September 15. You can sell a copy of your journal, but it's only for $20, and it takes two days. You can go to the arcade for the location of the second-best location to stake a claim. Don't worry, I'll tell you where it is. If you want to though, feel free to play. It's fun. There's not much you need to do in Dyea, but you can go to the Dyea saloon. To play cards. If you want to go to Skagway, feel free, but it takes extra time. There's a guy from the Chilkoot, and he carries supplies for people. He'll carry your supplies for only $3,000. Hmm, I guess you should carry them yourself. Wait, you will want to buy extra food. To be safe, get the 1,600 pound package. There isn't really anything else you need money for. ************************ Chilkoot Trail ************************ You're on the Chilkoot trail. You can probably get away with setting speed to heavy loads. If you kind of squint, the inlets on the map kind of look like the red sea. About half-way through the map, you'll come to Cordaroy Road. It's a landmark that does not mean that much, but it's half-way. Three-fourths of the way you get to Canyon City. Again, it's just a landmark. At the end you'll get to Sheep Camp. *********************** Sheep Camp *********************** I got here at Octobor 5th. Since you stocked up on supplies, you shouldn't need to buy anything unless someone stole lots of stuff from you. If you have less than 2750 pounds of food, you should buy more. If you have more, go ahead and go ahead. You can bet on sled dog races if you want to, but you probably shouldn't. There's a guy who will carry your supplies up, but don't use it. He will get your supplies there late. *********************** The Trail *********************** You should really better be on heavy load, unless you're getting injured repetedly. If you are, it would be better to lighten the load. *********************** Scales/Golden Stairs *********************** Now, you get to the Scales, which is just a landmark. It doesn't mean anything more than the other landmarks. This is the last DIFFICULT hike in the game. After this, you'll get to the Yukon Teritory, which is in Canada. The border patrol will make sure you have enough food, which will be 2,000 pounds for you. If you hired a tram, you'll have to wait for it. You will now continue down the mountain, headed to Lake Bennett. You are going downhill, so it's quite a bite easier. You'll get to the landmark Lake Lindeman. Nothing to see here, folks. Move along. When you get to Lake Bennett, you'll see a ranger guy. He says that you need to build a boat to haul your supplies to to dawson. He says to stay in the middle of the river in Miles Canyon. That's only a good idea if you want to live. Ok, great. Talk to the people if you want, and the ranger will tell you that there is some wood already cut down for you. Click on the boat plans sign to select a boat. Boats: ************************************* * Plans * Plan 1 * Plan 2 * Plan 3 * ************************************* * Speed * Slow * Fast * Middle * ************************************* *Navigate* Middle * Best * Worst * ************************************* Pick the one in the middle, it's the best boat. If you arrived at Lake Bennett before the year was up, you get to leave sooner! That's really the only reason you don't want to arrive in April. ************************* Miles Canyon ************************* Ok, the first challenging part of the game. You may want to save before going. You'll probably end up having to repair the boat. Anyway, keep going until you get to Five Finger Rapids. In the Five Finger rapids, it's normally best to hang to the right side. If you damaged your boat again, repair it, and keep going. You should arrive in Dawson. How much gold you make depends on when you get to Dawson. Here's a list of claims and how much gold the make on average: No. 1 Below Bonanza Creek $151,000 No. 2 Below Bonanza Creek $82,000 Cheechako Hill $50,000 No. 1 Above Adams Creek $43,000 No. 4 Below Bonanza Creek $21,000 No. 1 Above Boulder Creek $21,000 No. 3 ABove El Dorado Creek $6,000 No. 1 Above French Gulch $5,500 On the High Score list (Claims of Fame) If you get < $50,000, you are a Stampeder, < $100,000, you are a Sourdough, and if you get > $100,000, you'll be a Yukoner. ----------------------------------------------------------------- 3.
