Here you can buy items, weapons and armor, magic books and scrolls, and improve your Skills. The townspeople provide you with their services. Gunther the Blacksmith: Sells you weapons and armor, plus repairs and upgrades them. You can also sell equipment to him for money. Madame Irma: She can heal you, identify objects, and remove curses from your equipment. Perry the Publican: You can buy food from him, as well as rest and sell artifacts to him (An artifact is a special item left over after a quest). Master Elmeric: You buy magic books, scrolls, potions, rings and amulets from him. He can also recharge magic weapons or armor. Master Dalsin: You can upgrade your Skills through him. The Beggars: They sing the "Darkstone" song (Don't worry, you don't have to give them any money). Also, your character starts with a weapon, 1-2 pieces of armor, food, potions and a Magic book (Wizard, Sorceress, Monk, and Priestess only). One quick tip; if you have money left over (over 1200 gold) after you buy the rest of your armor, spend it on a Skill (Learning would be best). 5) Walkthrough --------------- UNDER CONSTRUCTION The PC version Faqs have the quests, which are basically the same as the Playstation version's (That's what I've used for a while). 6) Quests ---------- Quests are the largest part of Darkstone which gives it its RPG-like touch. There are a total of 20 quests, but you'll only have to do 7. Another plus is that the quests are randomnly selected when you start with you're character so you'll never do the exact same selection of quests twice. Each land has 3 different quests except for Baastehl which has 2. The quests themselves are pretty straight-forward, usually requiring an item or items which will allow to to get the Crystal. I don't have the time to write the quests now, but they will be in the future Walkthrough which I'll begin soon (School's starting soon so I'm pressed for time >:( ). 7) Armor List -------------- Armor plays a very important role in Darkstone. Not only does it protect you, it also changes your character's look. You'll start off with very basic armor, but as the game progresses, you'll be able to buy stronger and more expensive kinds. The AC (Armor Class) is the armor's protective quality. Each class has a different kind of armor. Warriors usually equip metal armor while Priestesses wear robes. You are not restricted to your class's armor type, but you must have the required stat level to equip other armor. Warrior/Amazon ************** Armor: AC's: Rags 2, 8 Suit 14, 20, 26 Reinforced Armor 32, 38, 42 Light Armor 50, 56, 62 Plate Mail 68, 74 Mystic Armor 80, 86 Shield 4, 8, 12, 16 Large Shield 20, 24, 28, 32 Helmet (1) 2, 4 Helmet (2) 6, 8 Helmet (3) 10, 12 Helmet (4) 14, 16 Wizard/Sorceress **************** Armor: AC's: Neophyte's Cape 2, 8 Novice's Cape 20, 26, 32 Apprentice's Cape 38, 44, 50 Sorcerer's Cape 56, 62, 68 Chief Sorcerer's Cape 74, 80, 86 Helmet (1) 2, 4 Helmet (2) 6, 8 Helmet (3) 10, 12 Helmet (4) 14, 16 Assassin/Thief ************** Armor: AC's: Rags 2, 8 Coat of Shadows 14, 20, 26 Leather Armor 32, 38, 42 Chain Mail 48, 52, 58 Studded Armor 62, 68, 74 Master's Armor 80, 86 Helmet (1) 2, 4 Helmet (2) 6, 8 Helmet (3) 10, 12 Helmet (4) 14, 16 Monk/Priestess ************** Armor: AC's: Neophyte's Robe 2, 8 Initiate's Robe 20, 26, 32 Priest's Robe 38, 44, 50 High Priest's Robe 56, 62, 68 King Priest's Robe 74, 80, 86 Helmet (1) 2, 4 Helmet (2) 6, 8 Helmet (3) 10, 12 Helmet (4) 14, 16 8) Weapon Guide ---------------- Weapons are just as important as armor, because the stronger the weapon, the longer you'll live. Darkstone has a large variety of weapons you'll be able to use, ranging from swords to staves, and even scythes! Each class has two types of weapons, basic one-handed weapons, and two-handed ones which are usually stronger. Warrior/Amazon ************** One-handed: Sword: Basic weapon, the sword offers quick attacks with decent damage. Axe: Stronger than the Sword, but a little slower and a larger damage range which can be gamble sometimes. Two-handed: Master's Sword: Stronger, impressive weapon that can deal incredible damage. Two-handed Axe: The Warrior's strongest weapon with a huge damage range. Wizard/Sorceress **************** One-handed: Staff: Weakest weapon in the game, 'nuff said. Scepter: A little stronger than Staves, and cooler looking too. Two-handed: Lance: Stronger, quasi-melee weapon. Trident: The Wizard's stronges quasi-melee weapon, this makes all that time dealing with Staves worth it. Assassin/Thief ************** One-handed: Throwing-Knife: A throwing weapon that can double as a melee weapon. Shuriken: A pathetic excuse for an upgrade, the Shuriken is only a little stronger than the Knife. Throwing-Axe: A mini-Axe, this weapon can do decent damage. Two-handed: Bow: The Thief's only two-handed weapon, you'll find yourself using this a lot. Monk/Priestess ************** One-handed: Club: Not as strong as the Sword, but still an effective weapon. Hammer: The Hammer is probably the only weapon that is one AND two handed. Good damage, but sluggish attack speed. Mace: Quicker attack than the Hammer, but a little weaker. Two-handed: Halberd: A larger Axe, the Halberd offers a small yet efficient damage range. Hammer: The Two-handed version of the Hammer is stronger. Scythe: A stronger variation of the Halberd. Special Weapon ************** Njolner: This hammer can be found in Draak's Lair. It requires 80 Strength and 40 Dexterity (which can be achieved by any class), and adds 40 to Dexterity and 30 to Strength. Also, the best thing about the Njolner is it has infinite durability. The only problem is it has a slow attack speed and isn't quite strong enough for Draak. 9) Item Guide -------------- There are a variety of items in Darkstone, ranging from potions, elixers, to scrolls. Items are very important as they can be the difference between life and death. Potions keep you alive by healing you, curing you, or replenshing Mana. Elixers are very expensive, but can permanently boost your stats even past their maximum. There is also an Elixer of Youth to make you up to 5 years younger. The Elixer of Surprise can either add to or subtract from any stat. Magic Books teach your character new spells. You find them in dungeons, or you can buy them from Master Elmeric. If you don't have enough Magic for a book, you can buy a Scroll. Scrolls let you use a magic spell even if you don't have it. Plus, Scrolls don't take any Mana! You can buy more than one scroll to use a spell more than once. Then, there are the Crystals, the most important items in the game. They are the Crystals of Wisdom, Virtue, Bravery, Nobility, Integrity, Compassion, and Strength. Once you get these Crystals, you can give them to Sabastian to create the Time Orb. The Time Orb is Draak's worst nightmare because it freezes him and keeps him from regenerating (or so Sabastian says). 10) Skills ---------- Skills are also very important because they either make your character stronger or help you through the game. There are also Skills you help you make lots of money like Theft or Repair. Every character has 8 slots for Skills, but starts with 7. In harder difficulty levels, you get an extra Skill to fill up that last slot (not class specific). Learning: Increases the experience you get making you level up faster Trade: Gives you an x% discount (x is Trade's level) on items Communion: Makes Mana recharge faster Master of Arms: Improves your melee abilities (hit % and attack speed) Perception: Rigged chests and barrels will appear red Concentration: Briefly increases your character's Strength and Dextertity Difusing: Lets you open rigged barrels and chests without getting hurt Detection: Highlights magic objects in blue Forester: Allows you to find food in the wilderness Identification: Enabled you to indentify unknown objects Lycanthropy: Transforms you into a werewolf, switches Magic and Strength Meditation: Increases your Mana temporarily Orientation: Shows the whole map for regions and dungeons temporarily Prayer: Temporarily boosts your Armor Class Recharging: Lets you recharge magic objects Repair: Lets you repair weapons and armor you have Silence: Your movements are less noticed by enemies Theft: Lets you can steal from monsters 11) Magic Spells ----------------- Magic spells let you do a variety of things. You can quicky destroy enemies, heal, or effect your enemies in different ways. You can even level up your spells by using more magic books. Level 1 ******* Antidote - Cures Poison Berserker - Increase your speed, attack speed, and slowly restores health Healing - Restores health Light - Makes area brighter (really helpful in dungeons) Magic Door - Takes you back to Town Magic Missile - Basic damage spell Ray of Injury - Damages all enemies around you Reflections - Protects you from magic spells and projectiles Level 2 ******* Detection - Helps detect magic objects Food - Boosts food meter Haste - Makes you faster Magic Bomb - Stronger damage spell Night Vision - Makes enemies more visibl Spark - Stronger damage spell Telekinesis - Lets you flip switches, open chests and pick up items far away Level 3 ******* Absorption - Absorbs enemy's health when you attack them Fear - Causes enemies to run away from you Fireball - Very strong damage spell Forgetfulness - Causes monsters to forget spells Invisibility - Makes your character invisible Stone - Turns enemy into stone Storm - Throws enemies away from you, can even damage them if they hit a wall Wall of Fire - Creates a barrier that damages enemies Level 4 ******* Death Dome - Damages enemies around you Flame Thrower -Very strong damage spell Invocation - Summons a Fire Golem that attacks your enemies Mutation - Turns enemy into a chicken Poison Cloud - Poisons and damages enemies around you Slowness - Slows your enemy down Teleportation - You can instantly go anywhere you choose, however there are some places that you can't go. Thunder - Very strong damage spell 12) Strategies --------------- Don't have enough money to buy a new weapon or armor? Try selling your old one first to see if that will give you the money needed. Always carry 9 Healing and Mana Potions on your belt when adventuring. This way, when you get into a bad situation or run out of Mana, you're covered. Never equip weapons or armor dropped by monsters; they usually have really low durability (if you have Repair, you don't need to worry about this). Sell Artifacts after quests for a good amount of money. Leave the Crystals in Town until you can get the Time Orb (no one's going to take them) so they won't take up room. Warriors/Amazons and Assassins/Thieves can make alot of money with their Theft/Repair skills. Theft is especially useful since the objects you steal are of much better quality than the ones dropped. Use your first five level-ups to add 25 to your weakest stat and 5 to your strongest stat (add 5 to your weakest and 1 to your strongest each level). If your stats aren't high enough (especially after level 30), get alot of money and buy elixers. 13) PC and Playstation Differences ----------------------------------- Ok, it's basically the same game, but there are several differences. Lands ***** PC: 4 lands (Ardyl, Marghor, Omar, Serkesh), 2 quests per land except for Serkesh which has 1 quest and Draak's Lair. PS: 8 lands (Ardyl, Terrnya, Marghor, Dywahd, Omar, Mothada, Baastehl, and Serkesh), 1 quest per land except Serkesh which has Draak's Lair. Gameplay ******** PC: Smoother graphics, can play online and control 2 different characters (one is the Computer). Also can have up to 5 Magic/Skill hotkeys, and I think 4 belt slots. PS: Graphics not too bad, only 2 Magic/Skill hotkeys, 2 belt slots, and none of the other stuff. Quests ****** PC: All of the PS's quests plus 1 more (not sure which one though). Plus, sidequests that are assigned in the "Village" that get you money. PS: 20 quests. no sidequests (would've made this game more fun...) Miscellaneous ************* PC: Main locale is called "Village" PS: Called "Town" PC: Characters could get special items that keep them young or other effects (More than what regular Rings and Amulets can offer). PS: Nope PS: The PC's "Darkstone" which appears after you get 3 crystals is called "Monolith". PC: When you beat Draak, you'll get the "Astral Hand" which you use on the Darkstone. PS: When you beat Draak, you'll get the "Dragon Scale" which you use on the Monolith. PS: In the Druid's Quest in Baastehl, you get the Mystic Bow instead of the Holy Bow. PS: In the Templar Quest in Omar, you don't have to free Prince Ramal's sisters (In fact, there's no way to). PS: Playstation version is cheaper. 14) Contact Me --------------- If you have a question/comment, find a mistake, or want to put this faq on a website, contact me at RavenZero@juno.com Thanks
