INTRODUCTION G0100 =============================================================================== Welcome to 'Zombie Hunter' for the NES, released by Hi-Score in 1987. It was almost released in the US by Activision as 'Zombie Master'. The game, originally in Japanese only, has been translated by KingMike. It is generally well done and I have used most enemy names from his version. You can still play the Famicom game and follow this guide, most enemy names are in katakana characters anyway. Suggestions, comments or errors - tell me about it. Enjoy! =============================================================================== 02.) BASICS G0200 =============================================================================== The game is very basic. You are a knight and wander right through an area until you encounter an enemy. When it is defeated you get experience points as well as a chest that contains gold and possibly an item. If the last on-screen foes escapes by leaving the screen, the chest won't appear. You still get experience for the enemies you have defeated though. The chest will also disappear if you don't pick it up within five seconds. The drop rate of the items varies between each one. Food, for example, is very easy to get. On the other hand, rare equipment would require lots of luck and re-fighting to get it. As you level up from the experience it may be worth trying to get the good weapons and equipment early on to get the upper hand on the foes ahead. Between battles you have time to take a break until continuing right for the next fight. Even during fights you may equip and use items. Going left during a fight may push you back down the landscape, and the next encounter you face is a previous fight all over again. If you wish to fight some more for experience or items, you can backtrack at any time. To get a fight to end quicker you could also try to force a foe out of the screen. You may run back left as far as you want, and going back too far means that enemies re-spawn. You cannot proceed further right until you have taken care of the enemies. Falling down anywhere means you have to win a fight to get back up. You still get gold and experience for that fight and automatically return to where you fell down. The inventory can only hold up to 10 items at the same time, including the weapon you are holding. This does not include items you are wearing such as armor or a ring. Each stage has a shop where you can buy and sell items or equipment. To find the shop, jump out of the screen at the top and you may enter it. This is harder to describe for each area so just try jumping around by your own will. There are more than one entrance. GAME A vs Game B: ````````````````` At the main menu, change the game from A to B with the SELECT button. Game A is the easy one. In Game B the items dropped are random levels, level gains are not as beneficiary. This is very challenging so beware before you start this mode you may want to have played Game A a few times as it is quite tough for ordinary players. For a difference in the experience gains, check the chart in section 7. Controls: ````````` ______| |____________________________ | ............. | | ............. B A | |_____________________________________| D-Pad Move, Duck A Jump, Confirm B Attack, Cancel START Menu SELECT Cycles through weapons You can only equip one item as main weapon. Use an item to recover power or wear it. For example, wearing Armor will upgrade your stats and remove itself from your inventory screen. You can wear several things at once. Wearing a different level item such as Armor will replace the old one as well as lose it forever. Ergo you can not sell your old equipment once worn. You may also not remove that item from your body, but there is also no real point in making yourself weaker. Display: ```````` The top part of the screen is the action area where you walk around and battle enemies. The lower parts is all about stats and inventory. The top bar is your Power (HP), where the red bar is what you have left. The Lx on the right is your current Level, you start out at 0. The left side has two more stats, the top is Experience earned to level up and the one underneath is the amount of gold you have collected from treasure chests. At the bottom is your inventory. The area on the right is used for your inventory menu but while you have an enemy on screen it will display its name and HP, including a small power bar. If an enemy is dead or has fled, the display will change so accordingly. WALKTHROUGH G0300 =============================================================================== Due to the fact that the entire game consists of walking to the right and fighting more enemies, the walkthrough is more of a list of enemies you encounter in order and which item they may drop. If you feel moving on is a struggle, backtrack and gain some levels and find more equipment. Encounters in ()s appear only if you have no key for the boss door. Stage 1: G0310 ```````` Do not forget to wear your starting equipment! If you do not have a good weapon upgrade by the time you fight the 3 Gyon, you will have a hard time. Backtrack and fight some more until you get the 2 Sword or the 1 Steel Sword, perhaps even level up once or twice. 1 Gargo 2 Food 1 Daruken 1 Steel Sword 2 Gargo 1 Armor 1 Daruken 3 Food 1 Gargo 1 Golem 1 Medicine 2 Gargo 1 Ring 1 Daruken 2 Dagger 1 Gargo 1 Golem 2 Food 2 Golem 2 Sword 2 Gargo 2 Dagger 3 Gyon 2 Medicine 4 Daruken 3 Food 4 Gargo 3 Candle 2 Gargo 1 Medicine 1 Golem 2 Golem 3 Ring 2 Gyon 1 Key 2 Gargo 3 Poison 2 Golem 4 Daruken 2 Shuriken 2 Gargo 3 Food 4 Gyon 2 Gauntlet 1 Baru 3 Flame Magic 2 Baru 2 Food 1 Gargo 3 Sword 1 Mirack 2 Mace 1 Gyon 2 Shield 1 Mirack 2 Mirack 2 Food 2 Baru 2 Helmet 2 Gyon 1 Key 2 Marick 2 Baru 1 Candle (4 Gyon MagiBracelet) KAISER (1) Go left to the 'Old Underpass' or right to the 'Tunnel Of Ice'. ITEMS G0500 =============================================================================== Food: Recovers small amounts of Power. Medicine: Recovers medium amounts of Power. Siliva: Recovers large amounts of Power. Life Water: Recovers all Power. Armor: Defense. Shield: Defense. Helmet: Defense. Gauntlet: Defense. Boots: Defense. MagiBracelet: Magic Defense. Necklace: Magic Defense. Ring: Magic Defense. Sword: The basic sword, still weak when at max level but at least it never disappears. Steel Sword: Stronger than the normal sword, but deteriorates rather quickly. Katana: Mainly strong when on high levels, deteriorates slowly too. Dagger: Shoots a fireball, deteriorates moderately. Not too strong though and takes some practice to get on target. Mace: Spawns a fireball that zooms along the ground and around obstacles. Originally stronger than the Magical Ball but gets weaker later and deteriorates faster. Crystal: Great magic weapon, especially when it gets a into the high levels. It might deteriorate pretty fast but it can still be used for a few more levels going downwards. Magic Book: Does not deteriorate, yet only really powerful at the highest level. Magic Rod: Very weak weapon and deteriorates too. Close to useless. Crystal Rod: Average strength for a weapon, too bad it deteriorate rather quickly. Thunder: Can be very strong at higher levels, and deterioration is slow. Unfortunately once it does it is not too strong any longer. Big Thunder: Great magic weapon, no deterioration either. The downside is, it's nearly impossible to find. Flame Magic: Spawns a flame that zooms along the ground, goes around obstacles with ease. Better than the Mace after a few levels. Shuriken: Extremely fast projectile, but a little hard to aim. Explosion: Nice area attack, but weak and deteriorates fast. Bomb: Sets down a bomb which explodes in half a second and has a huge range. Poison: Slows down the enemy for a short period of time. Magic Clock: Stops the enemies for a short period of time. Candle: Required to see the entire underground areas, as well as detailed enemy info. If not available, all enemy stats are shown as "Zombie". Key: Quest item, opens the door at the end of a stage. Very powerful weapon at the three highest levels though, it's a shame you'll most likely lose it once you open a door. Bag: Used to escape from boss battles. Mainly useful if you think you can't handle him at this point and you want to return for some level grinding / equipment hunting.
