===================================DISCLAIMER================================== I have decided not to allow websites other than Gamefaqs (www.gamefaqs.com), IGN (faqs.ign.com) & Gamespot (www.gamespot.com) to host my FAQs from now on. Please don't ask, because I will not grant permission. It's just that too many sites don't keep their version of my FAQ up to date which makes for a lot of hassle in my mailbox. So if anyone sees this FAQ on any site other than those mentioned above, please let me know and I will take care of the situation, thanks. Just to make things crystal clear for some people, this FAQ is not to appear anywhere at the following URLs: http://www.cheatcc.com http://www.cheatindex.com This document Copyright 2004,2017 Daniel Engel =============================================================================== Yume Penguin Monogatari FAQ November 30, 2017 Daniel (DEngel) Engel dan.engel.2017 [AT] gmail [DOT] com *NOTE* When I quote the story of the game and some of the updates between stages these are based directly on the translation work of the people at Vice Translations in the "Thanks" section, I did not translate the in-game text myself. ############################################################################### (A) TABLE OF CONTENTS ############################################################################### Table of Contents (A) This Table of Contents (B) Story (C) Controls (D) Items (E) Walkthrough (F) Endings (G) Thanks (H) Experimental ############################################################################### (B) STORY ############################################################################### The story basically centers around a fat penguin named Penta (that you control), his girlfriend Penko and an evil Penguin named Ginji that's trying to steal her away from you. "Penko: I can't stand fat guys like you Penta... So I've decided to go on a date with the smart, stylish Ginji instead. Penta: Whaaat?! Ginji: Hey! Penta! If you wanna lose weight, get some Fat-B-Gone! My gang has some... You could try and get it from them... Penko: Penta, if you really love me, come see me when you've slimmed up! I'll be waiting for you at the top of the waterfall. Penko: Just stop eating and SLIM UP!!!!" ############################################################################### (C) CONTROLS ############################################################################### The controls for this game are as follows: A - Jump. B - Attack. Select - Not Used. Start - Pauses Up/Down - Climb ladders. ================= ADVANCED CONTROLS ================= Depending on how fat Penta is he will control quite differently. Chubby - Chubby Penta moves very slowly and can only do a belly flop to take out enemies. Normal - Normal Penta moves at average speed and does a kick attack to hit enemies. Thin - Thin Penta moves at a good speed and does a very helpful long-range attack. If you manage to completely empty Penta's weight meter (get it to the "?" at the far right end) you will get temporary invincibility. If you do the same thing in any of the flying stages you will upgrade your basic shots into missiles. ############################################################################### (D) ITEMS ############################################################################### [Fat-B-Gone Bottle] These bottles come in both yellow and pink varieties and they both help Penta to lose weight fast. The yellow bottles remove less units on your weight meter than the pink bottles, but you should try to get either whenever you can. [Clocks] When you collect one of these items 15 seconds is added to your time limit for the stage, they're very helpful and you should try not to skip any if you see them. [Food] The food in this game comes in a variety of forms, but the main types are either apples or rice balls. In either case you want to AVOID as much food as possible, treat it as if it will kill you because it certainly won't help in this game. Every piece of food that Penta eats adds three units to his weight meter. [Beanie] When you pick up the item that looks like a circle with an "H" you will get a propeller beanie for Penta. Hold A to fly upwards while you have the beanie, but if you get hit you lose it. [Auto-Kill] When you pick up the item that looks like a circle with an "A" you will automatically kill every enemy on the screen, very helpful. [Invulnerability] When you pick up the item that looks like a circle with an "M" you will become invulnerable for a few seconds. ############################################################################### (E) WALKTHROUGH ############################################################################### Bricklayer J. Gastronomy In order to pass a stage in this game you first need to make it to the goal without time running out. However you also need to be thin enough when you reach the goal in order to pass the stage. The heart just above your weight meter indicates whether you are thin enough. If you are thinner than the heart (the heart is in one piece and the meter is blue) then you are fine, but if you are fatter than the heart (the heart is broken and the meter is pink) then you are in trouble. When you first start the game you will play a very short tutorial that basically teaches you how to jump and attack, as well as what the Clock and Fat-B-Gone items are for. -------------------- Stage 01 - Waterfall -------------------- The larger pink and green goons that you see before the stage starts are part of Ginji's gang, so any time you see them be sure to attack them for a pink bottle of Fat-B-Gone. Otherwise you'll want to basically attack all enemies that get in your way because many of them either drop Fat-B-Gone bottles or Clocks. This also stops them from hitting you (which makes you lose 10 seconds) or throwing food at you. Also MAKE SURE you don't fall in any water because it will FILL your weight meter instantly. Head right from the start and kick the trio of bugs in your way as you jump up and attack the blue goon for some Fat-B-Gone. Walk right off the pair of ledges, then attack the pink goon for some more Fat-B-Gone. Ignore the ladder and just jump to the middle ledge yourself, then head right and attack a bug as you grab some more Fat-B-Gone. An enemy above you will likely explode and send fruit flying diagonally, but you should be safe from it here. Jump to the ledge above and make sure you don't jump to the fruit above in the trees, then head right and drop off a pair of ledges as you attack more enemies. Quickly start climbing the nearby ladder to avoid the bouncing enemy, then wait for the blue goon to start walking right before attacking him from behind. Grab both bottles of Fat-B-Gone and drop off the ledge on your right, then stay on the ground as you head right. Attack a bug and a blue goon, then grab the Fat-B-Gone before jumping up to another bottle above. Quickly kill the enemy on the ledge above that runs left with a bottle on its back, then grab the bottle and kill the blue goon above if he's still on the screen. Grab the bottle from him and head right, then jump the bouncing enemy before continuing right. Kill more enemies until you reach some water, then avoid the jumping fish as you jump over the water. Head right some more and the volcano in the background will shoot rice balls at you (because rice cakes would have too much wind resistance, duh). Avoid them and continue jumping along the platforms over the water. Large purple hippos should start falling on the platforms as you jump towards them, you can't kill them but you can stand on them if needed. Attack/avoid the fish as you head right past the hippos, then attack some bugs and a blue goon before climbing a ladder. Attack another bug and blue goon before climbing the ladder to your left, then start jumping up the green platforms. There are also some falling platforms that you can use to continue your climb if you need to. Use the ladder at the top and head right to the telephone to end the stage. "Penko: Hello, Penta? Well done, but you need to get slimmer! Now you'll have to fly, and fight Pooh's Pig Cruiser! You've got 75 seconds, so don't waste any time! Penta: Ok, I'll do my best!" ----------------------------------- Stage 02 - Fly The Unfriendly Skies ----------------------------------- The pair of goons that you see before this stage begins are the ones that you'll want to look out for in order to get some Fat-B-Gone. The green one is more deadly as he moves and shoots faster, the yellow one is much slower with weaker shots. In this stage you fly a plane instead of walking on foot though, so instead of your number one hazard being water its other enemies. If your plane crashes into another enemy you will fat pretty quickly. Like all stages though you should attack as many enemies as possible so that you can get plenty of Fat-B-Gone and clocks. From the start shoot a trio of enemies up high followed by another trio down below, then start shooting some stronger pig ships as you avoid their food. A green goon shows up soon and the shots that he fires are pretty fast, (and fattening, heh) so try your best to avoid them as you kill him for his bottle. A trio of birds appears up high next, followed by three groups of enemies. Some pig ships appear next with a green goon soon after, kill him for some Fat-B-Gone. Multiple groups of enemies appear next as you see a machine that spits rice balls at you from above. A couple lines of enemies are next followed by a yellow goon, so kill him quickly for a bottle. Avoid rice balls from below as you kill another yellow goon, then kill a couple groups of enemies as you avoid rice balls from above. A V-shaped swarm of enemies appears next, followed by a yellow goon and rice balls from both directions to avoid. "Captain Pooh: Ah, here is my opponent! I will not fail you, Master Ginji!" You don't have a lot of time to win this battle, so work fast and shoot a lot. In the first stage the boss will fly vertically while shooting spreading trios of fruit, shoot him rapidly in the middle pig face on the front of the ship to damage him. The boss will start to fly forward at one point, fly above him when this happens. Shortly after this he will start shooting fast deadly shots from the two pink pig cannons on the top and bottom of the ship. However he will stop throwing apples so you can easily hit him many times here. The pattern repeats like that and during the whole fight bottles of Fat-B-Gone get thrown at you. So try your best to hit the boss while avoiding his shots and fruit, while also grabbing the bottles. "Penko: Hello? This time I'll be waiting on top of a cake. The cake is undergoing repairs, so be careful! You've got 125 seconds! Good luck!! Penta: Ok, I'll do my best!" --------------------- Stage 03 - Giant Cake --------------------- The goons for this stage are green in colour and carry umbrellas so be on the lookout for them. Start jumping up the steps to your right, then attack the bugs as you jump up more steps to your left. Attack the goon at the top for some Fat-B-Gone, then jump on the cloud to your right when it gets close. Jump to the platform to your right next followed by another cloud, then jump to the area above. Attack the bug and goon to your left while avoiding an apple, then grab the Fat-B-Gone and clock before jumping to the cloud. Attack the goon to your right if he gets in your way, then jump across the next three clouds until you reach the area above. Grab the clock to your left, then jump from the three disappearing clouds to a moving cloud above. Attack the enemy to your right if it gets in your way, then ride the moving cloud beyond to the area above. Attack the pair of enemies to your left and pick up the beanie that falls on you, then start flying upward. If you're good at avoiding enemies you can fly all the way to the goal without being hit. However if you get hit early on and lose the beanie, then you need to jump up a number of platforms to the area above while avoiding a few enemies. Collect the clock here while avoiding the bouncing enemy, then jump across the trio of moving clouds as you avoid a goon and reach the area above. Climb the ladder here before using a cloud to reach the area above, then collect more clocks and defeat a goon. Work your way up moving, stationary and disappearing platforms for the last section to make it to the stage goal. "Frosting Man: Now you'll have to face me, Penta! I'll make you creamy and smooth, just like me!" This boss is fought up in the clouds and isn't terribly hard if you are thin and have your long-range attack. Basically the boss just bobs up and down while using slow spread shots of fruit. Hit him in either of the two candles to both damage him and produce Fat-B-Gone to help you out. Just jump from the moving clouds to hit the candles and you should have him beat in no time. "Penko: Penta, you're still too fat! Do some exercise in the desert! The area boss is weak when he splits into three birds! You've got 125 seconds! Hurry up, Penta! Penta: Ok, I'll do my best!" --------------------- Stage 04 - The Desert --------------------- The goons for this stage are pink in colour, the larger one fires some fast shots that do a lot of damage. The smaller goon is slower and fires weaker shots so he's much easier to beat. Shoot around four groups of slow enemies before two faster groups appear, then quickly kill the fast goon before he hits you. Grab his bottle and shoot another couple groups of enemies, then avoid some riceballs as you enter an indoor section. The pink enemies on the ground leap into the air when you get close, but otherwise they're fairly way to defeat. The orange enemies that fly in loops can take a few hits though, so it's best to avoid them. Beware of the ground enemies as you fly high and kill some ghosts, then beat a pair of goons before dodging some riceballs. Back outside for a moment, shoot a goon and avoid more riceballs as you enter another indoor section. Try to avoid the falling enemies in here and grab the auto-kill from the ghost if you can, then kill a trio of goons before avoiding some riceballs beyond. Kill another goon out here and avoid more riceballs before entering another indoor section. Shoot as many enemies in here as you can and kill the pair of goons above the nearby items, then get the items. However MAKE SURE you don't touch any walls while getting the items as it will count as damage. Otherwise continue flying to your right to meet the stage boss. "Grah: Penta... What a shame you've made it here! My eggs will make you look like a FAT PIG!" For the first part of the battle the boss moves horizontally while firing spread shots of eggs down at you. Avoid the eggs as best you can and grab the Fat-B-Gone instead, then wait for the boss to split into three smaller birds. When this happens pick one bird and attack it as it drops down three times. Grab the Fat-B-Gone that it drops and avoid more of the boss's eggs. Repeat the pattern until there is one small bird left, then get ready for a change. This bird will bounce diagonally around the room pretty quickly, but if you're ready for this he's not hard to avoid. Once you kill the last bird the battle and the stage ends. "Penko: Penta? I'm at the beach now... Come find me! I'm waiting! But watch out, the Captain will attack you with barrels! You've got 150 seconds! Don't keep me waiting! Penta: Ok, I'll do my best!" -------------------- Stage 05 - The Beach -------------------- The pair of goons that you see before this stage begins are the ones that you'll want to look out for in order to get some Fat-B-Gone. They're identical to the goons that you faced in stage 01 so they're not hard to get rid of. Head right from the start, then jump the gap and kill the nearby enemy. Jump to the first moving platform and jump to the next one when you start moving back left. Shoot the goon up ahead and take his Fat-B-Gone, then kill the nearby enemies as you avoid falling coconuts. Jump across more moving platforms as you attack some jellyfish, then shoot the goon and grab the bottles. Jump across the octopus' tentacles as you avoid his riceballs, then shoot a goon beyond. Grab his Fat-B-Gone and shoot the enemies beyond, then avoid the large object that gets thrown at you followed by the coconuts that fall. Kill a pair of goons to your right, then jump from the moving platform for some invulnerability. Run right through the enemies as you ride the spout of water from the nearby whale, then jump to the pirate ship beyond and run right to the stage boss. "Captain Ginta: Arr, Ye not be sailing anywhere, Penta! No matter what ye do, ye can't win! Prepare yeself, yarrr!" This boss can be VERY frustrating if you don't have a proper strategy so read this carefully. The boss walks back and forth while throwing bouncing barrels at you, he also throws fruit every so often. He is too high for you to attack directly so you need to use one of his own weapons against him. The apples are simple avoided but the barrels can be knocked back at the boss. Unfortunately you can't just hit him with a barrel to do damage, instead you have to make sure that you hit the boss FROM BEHIND with a barrel. If you hit him in front with a barrel he will simply catch it and throw it back. I find it easiest to avoid the boss's barrels until he hits the edge of his platform and turns around, then hit the closest barrel that's behind him. It should bounce a lot higher and hopefully hit him from behind, then you can grab the Fat-B-Gone that appears. Repeat this until you hit the boss five times, then the battle and stage will end. "Ginji: Are you there, Penta? Haha! You'll never see her again! Penko will be MINE!!! Mwahaha!!! Come on Penta! Just try and get her back! Penta: Damn you! Penko! I'm coming for you! Just hang on!!" ----------------- Stage 06 - Finale ----------------- Head right from the start and jump on the wall, then jump to the hill above and run down it. Jump the gap as you avoid some enemies, then jump to another hill. Run down it and jump another gap, then shoot the polar bear to your right for some Fat-B-Gone. Jump the gap to your right and jump to another hill, then run down it and jump a gap. Jump the pair of enemies to your right, then collect some clocks before climbing in your plane and heading to the final boss battle. The boss is a giant airplane with fists piloted by Ginji, also depending on whether or not you are fat after the battle you will see either the good or bad ending. Ginji throws apples at you during the battle, but they are easily avoided. The airplane also shoots its fists at you every so often but they too are easily avoided. I recommend staying as low as possible for the entire battle as it gives you more time to react. Your first target is the airplanes fists, shoot them until they both explode, then get ready for the next part of the battle. Ginji will now start throwing riceballs at you, but they are just as easy to avoid as the apples that he threw earlier. Start firing at the nose of the plane and Ginji should start throwing some Fat-B-Gone with his riceballs, collect it if you need it and get ready to damage the plane. When the green panel opens up and you see a small circle of energy start attacking it to damage the plane. When the circle grows in size get out of the way because a fireball is on the way. Repeat this pattern until the plane explodes then enjoy whichever ending you received, but keep in mind that the bad ending counts as failing the stage. ############################################################################### (F) ENDINGS ############################################################################### [Bad] "Penko: Penta, thanks for saving me, but you're still too fat! ...Goodbye... Mainly as a small experiment since a few other FAQ authors have also had the same idea. I had a few people email me before I put this link in because they wanted to send money, so it's here for those people. For the record I've received about $87 (which works out to a bit more in Canadian lol) last I checked, so I've been getting cases of pop and making some excellent progress on a few FAQs. If you don't want to send money or can't then send me an email, it's nice to hear what people thought about my work and there's always room for improvement. My email address and paypal address for those that want to contribute are both dan.engel.2017 (AT) gmail (DOT) com Many thanks, and I hope you continue to use my work! ~Dan
