You introduced me to this gem of a game, and I appreciated your help in beating it. I hope that one of you will pass over this and drop me a line on it sometime. Also, for Cougar, Howler, Koonce, and Gracey. I miss you, and I hope you are living it up in the afterlife as you did in this world. You will always be in my memories, and you will never be forgotten. ----------- Version 1.0 ----------- -Submitted guide on July 10th, 2003 ----------- Version 1.2 ----------- -Submitted guide on September 25th, 2003 -Fixed a few small errors -Did some slight formatting updates ----------- Version 1.3 ----------- -Submitted guide on September 30th, 2003 -Fixed some more errors -Added in some new info to the secrets section (thanks to Stephen McCrillis) ----------- Version 1.5 ----------- -Submitted guide on July 16th, 2004 -Altered format and flow to make it easier on the eyes ----------- Version 1.6 ----------- -Submitted guide on 8th of November, 2005 -I added in Retronintendo and Honestgamers as sites allowed to use my FAQs -Altered the format to make it easier on the eyes of the reader ----------- Version 2.0 ----------- -Submitted guide on 8th of December, 2007 -Added in some ASCII maps for the game (thanks to Starsfighter76 for the contribution) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------Table Of Contents------------------------------ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) Introduction 2) Controls 3) Walkthrough 4) Attack Items 5) Magic Items 6) Items 7) Mini-Games 8) Bosses 9) Secrets 10)Final Word ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------Introduction-------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) The following is directly from the instruction manual of the game and is no way the work of Brian P. Sulpher. Thank you to www.nesfiles.com for archiving the instruction manual online (as mine went missing years ago). In the year 2777, the Earth existed in a totally different atmosphere. Due to Nuclear Wars and natural disasters, the population decreased dramatically and only five small islands existed on the surface of the earth. Those five islands formed a nation and for hundreds of years those people lived peacefully. The new nation is called XEXYZ. At XEXYZ, aside from human beings, there exist fairies and spirits who lived under the ruling of King Xeu Star. But one day, XEXYZ was attacked by the mechanic fortress, GORUZA, from outer space. XEXYZ did not have many weapons to fight back and was forced to surrender. GORUZA built mechanic castles on each island, captured a queen from each island and confined them. King Xeu Star was murdered and his only daughter, Maria Star, has gone missing since then. Battle-soldier Apollo could not endure the cruel treatment of GORUZA any longer. So he put on his space battle suit and challenged the mechanic beasts' empire! A rather involved story that allows for this sweet game to take place. Move out Apollo, and save the XEXYZ from GORUZA! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------Controls----------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) This section will look at the controls of the game. o----------------------o | Platforming Controls | o----------------------o D-Pad----> LEFT and RIGHT will move Apollo in the corresponding direction. UP will enter any door that Apollo comes across and if held when jumping Apollo will go higher. DOWN allows Apollo to duck. SELECT---> Moves cursor. START----> Pauses/unpauses the game. SELECT---> Moves cursor. START----> Pauses/unpauses the game. B Button-> Apollo will fire his long-range weapon. A Button-> Apollo will fire his Bombs. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------Walkthrough---------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) This section will look at the levels within the game. Please note that the doors containing tips will be ignored while doors containing useful things will be mentioned with the bracket containing their wares. This means that for story purposes, enter EVERY DOOR, but you can skip the ones not noted otherwise). Please note that with every continue, your Energy stores will be cut in half and your score will reset. Score is important as every 50000 points will add an extra life to Apollo's cause! o-----------o | World One | o-----------o ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~Enemies~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Bomber : They fly across the screen horizontally, occasionally dropping a bomb downwards. a few hits will take them out. Green Trooper: Found in the castle, these active fellows will fire multiple shots while taking multiple shots to take down. Ground Bot : They are weak enemies that patrol the ground of a specific area. A shot will put them down. Hopper : These guys hop along the ground, firing off the odd shot. They require one hit to be defeated. Paratrooper : They will come out of ships crossing the skies, landing on a surface where they will patrol back and forth, mindlessly firing off shots while not walking off of cliffs. A few shots will kill them off easily. Sentry Bot : They patrol the castle in slow sweeping motions up and down the hallways. A few shots will finish them. Statue : Some of these indestructible beings will drip fire from their eyes. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~Outside Path~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Kill the Paratroopers and head right to enter the first door you see to find a "Treasure Box Room". After playing for some E's, go back out to deal with Hoppers as you go right to jump to the higher ledge (watch out for the Bomber), and then jump left to enter the door to get a 45B Ball weapon (if you prefer the bouncy shot). Head right past the Statue heads to jump the gap to head up on the top path. Fight the Hoppers, hop the block to get the Life Box, and then shoot the star blocks to your left five times to make a gate appear. However, you should enter the door on the right to Power-Up your weapon for 20 E's first. Enter the gate and battle the Devil inside by shooting it in the head while dodging it's attacks to win a Force Star. Now you will be able to enter the mechanic castle at the end of the area. Head right to jump to the ledge below, head left to get an Energy Box, and then go right to deal with the Ground Bot. Now continue right, being sure to dodge the fire drippings from the attacking Statues to hop the gap, grab the Life Box, and then enter the door on the right to play the Bet A Box game for 20 E's (win 100 E's if right). Upon exiting, head right to enter the low door to play Rescue a Fairy (requires a fight), and then continue on to the door just above and to the right to receive a Foot Wing from a kind stranger. Head right along the ground to get a Life Box from under a fire spewing Statue before going right to hop a gap. Enter the door above to pay a frog 60 E's for the right to have your life refilled (only ay if you are desperate for life). Head right past the Ground Bots, Bombers, and Paratroopers to head across a gap to get an Energy Box as you go. Head right fightng off some Paratroopers to enter the door on the right to go inside the Mechanical Castle! However, enter the final door before the Castle to receive a free 20 E's! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~Castle Path~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Head right past the Green Troopers and the Sentry Bots to find an Energy Box by an entry to an Item Shop where a Foot Wing, Hand Beam, and a 45B Ball are available to buy. Head back outside to go thrugh the Air Well to the next floor. Take on the Sentry Bots here, grab the Life Box, and then go right through the door. Please note that you can go through the high Air Well to fight a couple Green Troopers to enter a Treasure Box Room. Once you go through the door, shell over 20 E's to enter the Gardex. ______ ___________ ___________ ______ |1 2 |-| |-| | | 3 4| |______| |___________| |___________|-|______| 1. Starting Point 3. Dock Ship 2. Board Ship 4. Leads to Section 2 Head through the door to fight the troops here (be very careful of the ground guns) to pass through the top door at the end of the corridor. Continue to fight the enemies that appear in this corridor (be sure to dodge the proximity exploders here), and when you reach the end of the corridor, enter the bottom door to find the hanger to ditch your Gardex. You will appear in a new hallway where a Green Trooper and three Sentry Bots attack. They guard a Life Box and an Item Shop selling Foot Wing, Hand Beam, and a 45 B Ball. Continue right to fight some Sentry Bots, a Green Trooper, and some Cannon. Carefully cross the gaps, grab the Energy Box, and then enter the door to receive a flying saucer to fight the BOSS! ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~Braiza~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~ A red-coloured floating brain with antennae is the boos of this mechanical castle, he will fire off a constant stream of bubbles straight across the screen, originating from the eyes. He will also have a smaller version of himself circle him briefly before flying at Apollo, the number of which will double as he takes damage. The 45B Ball is the best weapon to use as it allows Apollo to attack while safe from one of Braiza's attack, and also allows Apollo to kill the small Braiza's if he is fast enough. Your job is to attack continually while concentrating on dodging the incoming attacks from Braiza. o-----------o | World Two | o-----------o ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~Outside Path~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ You will receive the Zebox from the rescued Queen, so go through the door to head towards the next island. Shoot your way past the first two squadrons of Red Fliers to get an "S" and "P" Power-up. Continue along the top route (ignoring the Missile Launcher) to face a set of three Proximity Mines, followed by a four sets of Red Attackers. Grab the "S" Power-Up while fighting them and then take on the Mask by blasting it repeatedly to get rid of it quickly. Grab the "P" Power-Up (giving you spread fire if you have been getting each "P" Power-Up) and fight the Red Fliers and Missile Launcher combos that attack, followed by sets of Proximity Mines as the sky changes colour. Now the speed will increase by a fair margin, and your only job is to continually fire to remove as many Proximity Mines as possible while dodging the spiky platforms. Fly at the following altitudes to avoid the majority of the sets of Proximity Mines: start low, cut high quickly, move lower, then higher, and then quickly cut low to get by. Just remember that you also need to dodge the spiky platforms as you do the directions above. Once you pass that fifth set of proximity Mines, you will find the BOSS! ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~Jeliza~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~ A large, upright ship that has two main attacks: a spread attack from a gun on the bottom of the ship (it sends out bullets in a set of three), and then a fire cannon from the centre area of the ship that also shoots in a spread pattern of three huge fireballs. Please note that moving to a position above it will cause the ship to shoot the spread attack from the top area of the ship. To win, the nest strategy is too charge close to the right side of the screen, blast at point blank as it appear, and then back off to the left side to attack from afar continually while dodging through the spread shots and fireballs. Concentrate on keeping the Demex ship healthy while landing a massive amount of shots to the the enemy. o-------------o | World Three | o-------------o ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~Enemies~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Blue Hopper : These guys will charge at Apollo, take a running leap, and then continue to hop in measured lengths in the same direction. A few shots will take this annoyance down, but you are better off avoiding them. Bouncer : These pink heads will bounce around the room trying to hit Apollo. A few well placed shots will put them down for the count. Bug Bot : Small, green, and fast, they will charge at Apollo before flying off-screen. Either shoot them as they come or keep moving to avoid them. They will often come at Apollo in swarms. Chopper Bot : These bladed baddies will move back and forth over Apollo's head, dropping bombs. Shoot upwards to get rid of them, but they are easier to avoid. Crawler : The will come low to the ground towards Apollo, but they can hop to new levels to pursue him. They fire off shots, so take it out quickly. Dragon : They will pop up from below ground level occasionally to fire a shot before slowly sinking back underground again. Avoid them as they are not worth your time (especially since they hide for long periods of time). Gnat : These small beings will fly to a spot just out of reach of Apollo to try and sap his life away. A couple shots will end this threat, so fire away quickly to avoid taking massive damage. Green Trooper: Found in the castle, these active fellows will fire multiple shots while taking multiple shots to take down. Roller : These green balls will stop to produce a short robot that will fire one shot before going back into the roll mode. A few shots will take them down, but they are small enough that they are difficult to destroy. Tank Sentry : These small and fast bots will move relentlessly at Apollo, firing off round after round of attacks. Take them out quickly with a few well aimed shots or find higher ground to dodge them. Tarantuala : These beings move up and down on the trees, pausing to throw a web at Apollo. A few shots will take down the Tarantuala. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~Outside Path~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Head right past the two Tarantualas to hop the barrier to fight the combined threat of Blue Hoppers and a Tarantuala before entering the door to receive a free Wave Ball! Now head right to fight a Gnat before continuing to the right under a Tarantuala to fight another Gnat before entering the door above to play in the Treasure Box room. Go down the ledges to the right past a Gnat and a Dragon, enter the door to "Revive The Lady" for 50 E's (requires a fight) if you like, and then grab the Energy Box as you deal with a couple Gnats and a Dragon. Ignore the door above as you move right past a Gnat, a Chopper Bot, and then a Tarantuala to find a door to a person who will Power-Up your weapon for a measly 20 E's. Head right to pass a Tarantuala and a Chopper Bot (also be wary of a sneak attacking Gnat from the left) to jump the barrier to find a door to the Item Shop (save your Weapon Power-Up until you go here if you want a different weapon than the one you have) as it has a hand Beam, 45B Ball, and a Foot Wing available. A couple Blue Hoppers will charge you as you head right to find a barrier (watch out for the Chopper Bot from the left). Now continue right to find two Chopper Bots guarding an entrance to find a "Revive The Lady" (if you want to fight for some E's), grab the Life Box, and continue right past some more Chopper Bots to deal with a Crawler. The door above has a free 20 E's for ya, followed by Chopper Bots and a Tarantuala before a door will take you to a life refill for the steep price of 60 E's. Take off to the right again to shoot the star barrier to make a door appear, allowing for Apollo to fight the Devil for the needed Force Star to enter the castle. Exit to take on a Tarantuala before entering the Mechanic Castle to try and free the Queen! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~Castle Path~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Go past the two Tank Sentries to find a Roller guarding the three paths ahead. The lowest path is a dead-end (an Energy Box is there guarded by a Tank Sentry), the middle path advances further into the fortress, and the top path leads to an Item Shop (Foot Wing, Hand Beam, and 45B Ball for sale). Grab the Life Box, avoid the Tank Sentry, and then choose form one of three paths. The bottom path leads to a dead-end, the middle path leads to a Rescue The Fairy fight for 40 E's, and the top path leads to the door to the next room. ______ ___________ ___________ ______ |1 2 |-| | | | | 3 4| |______| |___________|-|___________|-|______| 1. Starting Point 3. Dock Ship 2. Board Ship 4. Leads to Section 2 Demex is your ride here, provided you have 20 E's to spend to get into it. Fly through the door above to fly down a corridor where the enemies will attack in the sky in attack wings while ground cannons will fire upwards. Start low to get the "S" Power-Up, followed by cutting up to get the "P" Power-Up while dodging the purple orbs attacking by moving up and down throughout the corridor. Following that is an "S" Power-Up guarded by the ground cannons, which are followed by squadrons of fighters and a wall cannon as Apollo goes through the bottom door. This room has Apollo slaloming through the pipe walls while dodging the attacking fighters and ground cannons. Be sure to get the "S" and "P" Power-Ups low to the ground to improve your weapons. Be sure to take the bottom door to exit the area and to park your vehicle to continue through the Mechanic Castle! A Green Trooper and Bouncers attack here (kill the Green Trooper right off, then go after the Bouncers), which you will follow up by heading right to find a door to an Item Shop (Hand Beam, $5B Ball, Wave Ball, Foot Wing) along with a Life Box to the right. Take the lower route to fight Bouncers, followed by Bug Bots as you start jumping across the deadly gap below. Continue across the gap past the Air Well to battle a Green Trooper, some Bouncers and then another Green Trooper before entering the door to receive the Flying Saucer to carry you to the fight with the BOSS! ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~Stinza~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~ A rather prominent eye on this guy screams out what his weakness is (the EYE in case you are not catching on). He will fire spikes out in sets of four, with enough space in between the offending sharpies for Apollo to fly between. However, he can also shoot an eyeball at you that will home in on the position that is currently occupied by Apollo at the time of the shot. Your job is to continually fire while concentrating on flying in between the spike attacks, occasionally moving up/down to avoid the eyeball attack. Keep in mind that the eyeball can be defeated, you need to be dead-on in your shooting to do this. o------------o | World Four | o------------o ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~Outside Path~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ You will receive the Dolfix from the rescued Queen, so go through the door to head towards the next island. Fight the three sets of attackers here and grab the "S" Power-Up between the second and third set before fighting some Jellyfish before cutting upwards to grab a "P" Power-Up (be sure to shoot the Jellyfish just to the right to allow Apollo to move out of enclosed space quickly before enemies from below get him). Fight some attackers, Jellyfish, and then bait the drilling enemies off the roof to allow Apollo to get the "S" Power-Up on the high ledge. Fight the streaking blue enemies next (they fly straight across the screen rapidly) before going low to shoot a Driller and then move under the Drillers attacking from above. Grab the "P" Power-Up, deal with the Jellyfish, and then grab the "S" Power-Up before cutting up through the streaking blue enemies for a "P" Power-Up, and then you get to face more Jellyfish. A few more Jellyfish and attackers will be followed by a speeding up of and darkening of the course, which is further complicated by the appearance of a Mask. You will need to dodge through the statue obstacles while fighting off the attacks of bugs in sets of three that fire off their own shots. Your best bet is to concentrate on avoiding the enemy swarms as the speed is too fast for Apollo to effectively take them down. Once you pass these obstacles, Apollo will find the BOSS! ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~Megaza~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~ An anteater like enemy, it has a very basic attack pattern of firing three sets of blades at Apollo that can be dodged by flying in between the offending appendages before he charges at the left side of the screen (dodge up or down). He will then repeat this same old attack pattern, so dodge carefully and attack continually to fall this rather easy Boss. o------------o | World Five | o------------o ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~Enemies~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Beast Bot : These blue apparitions will walk back and forth, tailing Apollo from ground level, waiting for him to descend into the range of their horizontal firings. A shot or two will quickly rid them from your sight. Fighter : They will fly onto the screen from the right and continue till they reach Apollo's area, at which point they will circle and then fly quickly off the screen. Land a shot to finish them off. Gap Missile: They will fire from the various gaps in the area. They will move upwards to the top of the screen, followed by returning to the gap, but they are weak so fire a shot at them to destroy them. Hopper : These guys hop along the ground, firing off the odd shot. They require one hit to be defeated. Rotator : These small blue entities will circle around, firing off a wild amount of shots. Take them down from afar with a few well placed shots. Shuttle Bot: These small beings patrol the Mechanical Castle, changing altitudes as they attempt to shoot Apollo. They are weak, so pop them form a distance. UFO : These big and slow discs will release multiple spread shots out of their opening on top of the craft before flying off. Kill them from below for safety reasons. Walker : They walk along the ground until they get trapped or fall off a cliff. A few shots will take these somewhat tough customers down. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~Outside Path~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Kill the UFO before grabbing the Energy Box above, and then head right past the trapped Walker to take on some Fighter as you enter the high door to gain a Moon Ball weapon! Take on the Fighters upon exiting before going to shoot the star barrier below five times to find the door to the Devil fight for the Force Star! Battle the Fighters again, take on the UFO, and then walk to the right to battle a Walker. now hop across the large gap on the small blocks while dealing with Fighters to find a door to a Bet a Box room. Be wary of the Gap Missiles here as you hop to solid ground to fight a Walker and a UFO before entering the Item Shop above (Hand Beam, 45B Ball, Wave Ball, Foot Wing) if you wish something from there. Head right past a Walker to enter the next door to receive a Mirror magic item (gives a false Apollo on top of real one which doubles your firepower), which you should use as you head right through some Fighters and Walkers. A UFO is your next obstacle, followed by two Walkers guarding a Life Box, and then enter the next door to pay 20 E's for the Powering-Up of your weapon. Fight the UFOs here, start across the gap while tackling the annoying Fighters and UFOs to enter the door below for a Save the Fairy game if you wish to fight the enemy there. Continue right across the gap while shooting down Fighters to find a UFO and Walker in your path, Following that are more Walkers, a UFO, and then some precarious gap jumping on small platforms while fighting UFOs (the door you see has a frog who will refill your life for the super steep price of 90 E's). Once you reach the solid ground again, kill the UFO and Walker before entering the door for 20 E's, and then head right past the UFOs, Walker, and Gap Missile to enter the Mechanical Castle! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~Castle Path~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Pop the Shuttle Bot, head right, and then tangle with some more Shuttle Bots as you hop small gaps while avoiding the hazardous red raindrops that fall from the ceiling here. Now fight past the Beast Bots to find a door to an Item Shop (Hand beam, 45B Ball, Wave Ball, Moon Ball, Foot Wing, and Mirror) before going through the Air Well above to the next floor of the castle. Two Shuttle bots and a Beast Bot greet Apollo, followed by another Beast Bot guarding a door above (Bet A Box mini-game) and an Air Well leading down. If you wish to Power-Up your weapon, go right past the Beast Bots and red raindrops to go through an Air Well to fight four Hoppers to find the door to the Power-Up room. otherwise, just head down the Air Well below the Bet A Box room to find a Rotator, red raindrops, a Life box, an Energy box, and a gap to jump across to find the waiting Jennex for the cost of 20 E's. ______ ___________ ___________ ______ |1 2 |-| | | |-| 3 4| |______| |___________|-|___________| |______| 1. Starting Point 3. Dock Ship 2. Board Ship 4. Leads to Section 2 Proximity Mines attack en masse here as you grab the "S" Power-Up before entering the narrow corridor to deal with some Tank Sentries on the ground. Upon emerging from the narrow corridor you will some attacking bots in the sky as you grab a "P" Power-Up, at which point more Tank Sentries join the sky attackers (go high to get the "S" Power-Up). Once you finish the trip past the barricades in the middle of the room, fight the Wall Cannon before choosing the bottom door. Deal with the fighters here as you grab the "P" Power-Up, followed by destroying more fighters and Wall Cannon as you go high for the "S" Power-Up. More fighters and Wall Cannons will attack, followed by Proximity Mines as you find the "P" Power-Up. Kill the Proximities as you advance, and go past the splitting enemies to take the top door to land your rider in the hanger before advancing. Deal with the two Rotators as you dodge the red raindrops, and go through the Air Well above to fight Shuttle Bots and Beast Bots as you move to the right to find an Item Shop (Hand beam, 45B Ball, Wave Ball, Moon Ball, Foot Wing, and Mirror). Otherwise, continue right through the red raindrops to ignore the next Air Well as you start the jumping across a gap. just continue to be wary of the red raindrops as you enter the door to go to fight the BOSS with the flying saucer! ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~Shelza~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~ A shellfish-like appearance for this bad guy, and he is rather simple in pattern but rather deadly in his attacks. He will slowly advance towards Apollo while firing three blue spread sets towards Apollo, followed by firing three blue spread sets towards Apollo as he back off. Your job is to concentrate on moving between the incoming bullets while continually firing to hit the massive mollusk. If you have Mirror power when you enter, this fight will be easy, but remember only your bottom Apollo is vulnerable, so get that one positioned between the incoming spread shots. o-----------o | World Six | o-----------o ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~Outside Path~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ You will receive the Doorax from the rescued Queen, so go through the door to head towards the next island. Fight the attacking guys that will circle as they attack to go after an "P" Power-up, and then cut up to kill the black enemy that will annoy you all level if you leave him alone. Grab the "S" Power-Up next as the attacking guys continue to come, aided by sow floating eyeballs (they come from the top or bottom of the screen). Next are some Crab enemies who fire at you, so kill and dodge as you see fit, remembering to grab the "P" Power-Up as a missile flies form below. Continue right to fight Crabs and the Mask in a tandem attack, followed by eyeballs and Crabs protecting a "P" Power-Up. Another black enemy will show up here, so take it out fast before more Crabs and another Mask appear as the background changes colour and the speed of your craft increases. If you have collected every "S" Power-Up and "P" Power-Up, the following section is extremely easy as you can hang to the far left in the middle of the screen, allowing Apollo to pass through ALL the spiky barriers ahead. You will need to continually fire to plow a path through the blocking Crabs to reach the end. Otherwise, you will need to dodge and shoot as you go, which is exceptionally hard with the shooting Crabs! Either way, you will arrive at the end of the scrolling screen to find a fight with the BOSS waiting! ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~Gidoza~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~ A giant bird-like entity, it will attack from it's talons with two air blasts, followed by another two air blasts accompanied by two small bullets from it's mouth. This will all occur as it moves up and down on the right side of the screen, so the pattern is mind numbingly easy to predict. You will, as always, fire continually to win as fast as possible, and you will concentrate on dodging the Gidoza's projectiles for the easy win. o-------------o | World Seven | o-------------o ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~Enemies~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Beige Sentry: They are fast moving patrollers that will smartly patrol an area and try to get Apollo. They are tough, so try to fight them with the best weaponry. Blue Sentry : They are fast moving patrollers that will smartly patrol an area and try to get Apollo. They are tough, so try to fight them with the best weaponry. Bounder : These blue beings hop across the screen in big arcs at a fairly fast rate. Their erratic movements along with their small size makes them an enemy to avoid unless you prefer risking large amounts of your health. Creep : Little red beings that will attack by rolling around, only to spring loose when Apollo draws near. They are fast and small, with the ability to hop through platforms, so take them out quickly or try to pass them (not recommended though). Cross : They will come spinning from the bottom of the screen to stop at the top to make the return trip downwards. Hard to shoot, so dodge or wait for them to fall out of your way before advancing. Dragon : They will pop up from below ground level occasionally to fire a shot before slowly sinking back underground again. Avoid them as they are not worth your time (especially since they hide for long periods of time). Drone Bot : They will fly in a small area, zeroing in on Apollo as they weave up and down in their lazy patterns. Easy to kill, they usually are positioned over pits to get overconfident players. Red Sentry : They are fast moving patrollers that will smartly patrol an area and try to get Apollo. They are tough, so try to fight them with the best weaponry. Statue : Some of these indestructible beings will shoot small bullets from their eyes. Whirler : They whirl across the floor rapidly, firing off a shot as they try to ram Apollo. Their poor defense allows for easy removal however. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~Outside Path~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Deal with the Chopper Bots, kill the Blue Sentry, and then head right (the lower door is a Revive The Lady for E's) to jump over the hole (although all "holes" out the Mechanic Castle may be walked in without death) while dodging the Cross. Enter the door here for a Typhoon, and then head outside to rampage to the right through the Chopper Bots and Crawlers to see a door (Treasure Chest Room) or take the bottom path for an Energy Box before going across the gap past a Dragon to find a door (Item Shop where a better weapon should be purchased). Go right through the Chopper Bots, Crawlers, and a Cross to go past the first door you see to fight three Bounders before grabbing a Life Box. Shoot the star barrier here, enter the resulting door, and beat the Devil for the Force Star. Fight the Chopper Bots, Bounders, and the Cross as you continue to the right to take out a Blue Sentry to find a Bet A Box door and a weapon power-up door (pay this for better attack power!). Go right over the water past a Cross and a Dragon, past a door (life refill for 90 E's) to find an Energy Box, a Revive The Lady door, and a Life Box on the low path and an Item Shop on the top path (Hand beam, 45B Ball, Wave Ball, Moon Ball, and Foot Wing) and a free 20 E's from the next door. Head right over the water and past the columns while battling a Cross to follow that up with a Crawler and a couple Blue Sentries before Apollo can enter the Mechanic Castle! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~Castle Path~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Unless you want to go after a Life Box, Energy Box, and an Item Shop door (you will have to fight Creeps and Beige Sentries as you do this), go right and then down the first Air Well you come across. The door here is a weapon Power Up (do so if needed), and then fight past the Red Sentries to find a choice in paths. Going the high route will take Apollo to an Air Well that takes him to fight a Red Sentry and a Whirler before entering an Item Shop. The bottom path will bring you to an Air Well (the one to advance Apollo through the level), but if you go past this spot and fight a couple Drone Bots to reach an advice door (not useful). Fight the Whirler and the Red Sentries, collect the goodies, and then head through the door. Spend the 20 E's to get on board the Vardex and fly through the door. ______ ___________ ___________ ___________ ______ |1 2 |-| |-| |-| | | 3 4| |______| |___________| |___________| |___________|-|______| 1. Starting Point 3. Dock Ship 2. Board Ship 4. Leads to Section 2 Fly past the Wall Cannon to fight the flyers ahead before cutting above the Wall Cannons to fight the patrolling balls (they move up and down across the screen) as you grab the "P" Power-Up. Enter the narrow path to fight more patrollers before taking on a Wall Cannon and some Flyers to go above the platform for the "S" Power-Up. Move through the patrollers and past the splitting enemy to take the top door. Find a spot on screen and stay there and repeatedly fire to get through four sets of Streakers unharmed, followed by a set of Flyers with more Streakers (three sets). Pass the Wall Cannon, grab the "P" Power-Up, and then duck below the next Wall Cannon for the "S" Power-Up before two sets of Flyers along with continual Streaker attacks that ius followed by a splitting enemy and Apollo going through the top door. Go low to take the cannons out, then cut up to fight the Flyers as Apollo passes over the low walls (go for the "S" Power-Up if you feel daring). Continue to slalom along through the low and then high walls as you fight the Flyers and Cannons on the ground (ignore the Power-Ups and concentrate on staying alive). Take the bottom door to find the hangar to leave your mechanical rider behind as you head through the door. Kill the Red Sentry and jump to the ledge above for the Life Box as you avoid the shots from the statue before heading right to go through the Air Well in the roof. Fight the Red Sentries, go right to a choice. the top Air Well leads to an enemy infested area (includes Red Sentries and Drone Bots), a Life Box, and a door to a Rescue The Fairy. If you pass the bottom Air Well, a Life Box and a door to an Item Shop are your rewards once you get past the attacking Whirler. Head down the bottom Air Well when ready to advance further into the Mechanic Castle. Hold RIGHT as you fall onto the screen to avoid taking unecessary damage, and then head right past the Red Sentries to fight the Creep and a couple Red Sentries. Now go past the shooting Statues to enter the door to find your flying saucer to go battle the BOSS! ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~Loboza~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~ This lobster-like creation will attack Apollo with one main projectile attack, which is a steady stream of bubbles. It will patrol the room in a slow clockwise manner, trying to trap Apollo on the side of the screen so the bubbles will have an easy time hitting Apollo. To win this fight, continually shoot at the monstrosity, and move to keep Apollo far enough away to avoid the bubbles and still close enough to land hits. When Loboza is on the left half of the screen and he has Apollo trapped, try to move out of the way. but use your Jump to get over any offending projectiles, as it not only avoids the current one but often throws Loboza's aim off for the next bubble attack. A tougher boss that requires some sharp movements to beat! o-------------o | World Eight | o-------------o ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~Outside Path~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ You will receive the Shrix from the rescued Queen, so go through the door to head towards the next island. Head along the top, dealing with Streakers and Wall Cannons, all the while grabbing the "S" Power-Up, followed by the "P" Power-Up. You will have to deal with the Drillers (up and down patrollers) next, followed by more Streakers and a Wall Cannon. Next up are Bombers (who shoot their payload when they draw near and then retreat a little to block the path) and Drillers guarding an "S" Power-Up on a platform, so shoot the Bombers from afar or risk damage. Continue right to find more Bombers guarding a "P" Power-Up, followed by Drillers, Wall Cannons, and ground patrollers. Grab the next "S" Power-Up and "P" Power-Up from the Wall Cannons and Bombers before tangling with the Mask as the background speeds up. You will have to maneuver through the green barriers as multitude of Bombers attack. Your job is to fire continually why totally concentrating on dodging the Bomber groups as you skillfully fly through the open airways. When you see a lone Bomber, you have raeched the battle with the BOSS! ~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~Jawza~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~ This shark machine has three viscously strong attacks that work incredibly well together. He will use his top and bottom "fin" to slice forwards, followed by going in the direction his mouth was (up or down) and then retreating to his body to reattach. The second attack is a continual spraying of bullets from his mouth that leave little room for Apollo to pass through the stream if needed. the third attack will occur after three sets of "fin" attacks have taken place, and Jawza will shoot a spread of bullets (three out the top, three out the bottom), move forward, spread fire, move forward, and spread fire one last time before returning to the first two attacks. With this pattern being so tough on Apollo, your job is to fire crazily before mouth bullets start, cut above Jawza to drop bombs (A Button), and then continue this until he has done the three spread fire attacks. You will then repeat the pattern to win this tough fight. o------------o | World Nine | o------------o ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~Enemies~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Bouncer : These green heads will bounce around the room trying to hit Apollo. A few well placed shots will put them down for the count. Drone Bot : They will fly in a small area, zeroing in on Apollo as they weave up and down in their lazy patterns. Easy to kill, they usually are positioned over pits to get overconfident players. Mini-Tank : They move along the ground at rather slow speeds, but they are tough to hurt without a superior weapon. Paratrooper: They will come out of ships crossing the skies, landing on a surface where they will patrol back and forth, mindlessly firing off shots while not walking off of cliffs. A few shots will kill them off easily. Red Sentry : They are fast moving patrollers that will smartly patrol an area and try to get Apollo. They are tough, so try to fight them with the best weaponry. Rotator : These small purple entities will circle around, firing off a wild amount of shots. Take them down from afar with a few well placed shots. Spider : These fast moving bugs will patrol the roof, but will drop down to fight Apollo. a few shots will take them out. Statue : Some of these indestructible beings will shoot small bullets from their eyes. Volcano : These litter the landscape outside the Mechanic Castle, firing small molten rocks off into the air that damage Apollo. Avoid them as they are invulnerable. Wall Cannon: They shoot off fireballs in a steady manner, but are rather weak, allowing for easy killing. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~Outside Path~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Head right past the door and first two Volcanoes to fight a Bouncer before continuing to the right. Fight the Bouncer to pass the door (for now) to continue right (go for the Energy Box if you are adventurous) to pass two more Bouncers to enter the door below to receive a Laser weapon! Now head left past the Bouncers to enter the previously skipped door to Power-Up your Laser! Go right over the gaps and past the Bouncers, past a door (Bet A Box), and then past more Bouncers and a volcano to find an Item Shop (all Items now available!). Head through the narrow passage below while fighting the Bouncer and Mini-Tanks and dodge the red raindrops. Ignoring the door on the left, go right past a door (Rescue The Fairy), some Volcanoes, and then tangle with a couple Rotators while jumping the dangerous gaps. Get the Life Box, enter the door above for a free 20 E's, and then go right to fight a couple Paratroopers that appear near the next door (Item Shop). Next up is two Rotators guarding a door (life refill for 90 E's), followed by Red Sentries and a Volcano. Jump the hill, kill the Red Sentry, shoot the star barrier, and then enter the door to fight the Devil for the Force Star! Upon exiting, head right to enter the Mechanical Castle! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~Castle Path~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ You will be faced with three paths right off the start. Taking the low path Air Well will lead to a fight with Drone Bots, Red Sentries, and Wall Cannons as you move to the right to find an Item Shop. The top path Air Well to find Red Sentries and Wall Cannons guarding a door (useless advice). Head through the room towards the right, battling the Red Sentries and Wall Cannons to find a door (Bet A Box). Go through the Air Well above to the next area when you are ready to go deeper into the Mechanical Castle. Tale out the four red Sentries, start out to the right on the high path, and then go low (door with a weapon Power-Up) or high (door to the hanger). Jump on board the Demex (at the price of 20 E's) and take off out the door! ______ ___________ ___________ ___________ ______ |1 2 |-| |-| | | |-| 3 4| |______| |___________| |___________|-|___________| |______| 1. Starting Point 3. Dock Ship 2. Board Ship 4. Leads to Section 2 The platforms in this corridor will fire off shots with NO WAY to stop them, so just avoid their attacks. Patrollers and Proximity Mines will start the attack off, followed by an "S" Power-Up and some more Proximity Mines. More Patrollers and a "P" Power-Up appear next, and then three splitting enemies guarding the end (take the top door). Head under the wall ahead (avoid the ground attacker), fight the Patrollers as you cut up to pass over the low wall, and then Proximity Mines and ground attackers come in full force as you cut under the high wall. Head right to pass more ground attackers, grab the "P" Power-Up, and then go under the low wall (dealing with more ground attackers). Proximity Mines show up next, guarding the "S" Power-Up below as well as the doors at the end (take the bottom door). Ground attackers from below and Patrollers from above lead off here, followed by a Wall Cannon closely guarding a "S" Power-Up. More ground attackers and Patrollers attack as two Wall Cannons appear guarding a "P" Power-Up, followed by two splitting enemies. Choose the top door to find the hangar to park your Mechanical Rider, and head through the door to continue through the Mechanical Castle. The room has three Drone Bots (two ahead, one coming from behind through the wall), and you have choice of the low Air Well (path to get to end of castle) or the high Air Well (fight past Spiders, and Wall Cannons to find an Item Shop and a Life Box). A Spider and two Wall Cannons greet Apollo through the low Air Well, followed by a Life Box up high, a door to the right (useless advice) and an Air Well above (leading to a Rescue The Fairy after getting by two Red Sentries). The bottom Air Well is the proper path, so head down it to fight a couple Drone Bots before hopping the gaps to go right to go along the bottom route past two Red Sentries and a Spider. Head through the door to find your flying saucer waiting to take Apollo to the battle with the BOSS! ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~Horrza~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~ A battle that is INSANELY DIFFICULT, Horrza will bring superior firepower to the battle most of the time (even with Mirror and a Powered-Up Laser, it is still just an EVEN fight)! He will fire three lightning bolts in a spread fashion along the top third of the screen, and three spread fireballs along the bottom two thirds of the screen. This means that Apollo needs to stick to the bottom two thirds of the screen, where he has to dodge continual fireball attacks from Horrza and continually fire. This sounds like no help, but with this BOSS, half of your battle will consist of luck due to the severe power of the enemy's weapons and his very aggressive attack plan. Be sure to enter with Powered-Up Laser, full life meter, and a Mirror Magic Item handy to improve your chances. o-----------o | World Ten | o-----------o ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~Outside Path~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ You will receive the Cammex from the rescued Queen, so go through the door to head towards the next island. Fighters in sets of three will attack as you move forward to grab the "S" Power-Up, followed by a Mask with Fighter sets. Streakers will appear quickly after the formation of the Mask, leading into more Fighters and a Ground Cannon. Saucers will appear next flying their up and down patterns over a short area, then another Ground Cannon and more Saucers. A Mask will soon form here, so kill it quickly as the Ground Cannon assists. Grab the "P" Power-Up, deal with the Saucers, kill a Ground Cannon, and then take on more Saucers before grabbing the "S" Power-Up. Take on a couple Ground Cannons while yet another Mask forms, and then kill it and the Streakers that come at Apollo. Following this, things I can only describe as X-Wings (George Lucas should sue) attack as they fire and dive, followed by a "P" Power-Up. Now the screen will darken as a Ground Cannon appears, followed by more X-Wings and "S" Power-Up. Now the screen will be littered with small statue heads that will hurt if Apollo hits them, and they are accompanied by continual X-Wing attacks. Go along the top or bottom of the screen to avoid most of the statue heads as well as most of the X-Wings (the ones that do attack in your flight path will be decimated by your continual weapons fire). Get far enough and the scrolling will stop, meaning is the battle with the BOSS! ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~Cavuza~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~ An odd looking character, this guardian will have two main attacks as he moves forward slowly before backing off at the halfway point of the screen. He will fire three fireballs in a spread formation, but one of them will move slower than the others, causing their to be more fireballs on screen. He also will shoot a gigantic missile on occasion, usually when Apollo lines up with the green missile battery on the side of him. Your job is to continually fire while staying above the green missiles AND avoid the fireballs as they come (usually you can fit between the bottom two fireballs). o--------------o | World Eleven | o--------------o ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~Enemies~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Attacker : These angular enemies rise to Apollo's altitude, and then fly at him while not stopping in any way. A few shots will ground them. Bouncer : These green heads will bounce around the room trying to hit Apollo. A few well placed shots will put them down for the count. Bug Bot : Small, green, and fast, they will charge at Apollo before flying off-screen. Either shoot them as they come or keep moving to avoid them. They will often come at Apollo in swarms. Creep : Little red beings that will attack by rolling around, only to spring loose when Apollo draws near. They are fast and small, with the ability to hop through platforms, so take them out quickly or try to pass them (not recommended though). Drone Bot : They will fly in a small area, zeroing in on Apollo as they weave up and down in their lazy patterns. Easy to kill, they usually are positioned over pits to get overconfident players. Gap Missile: They will fire from the various gaps in the area. They will move upwards to the top of the screen, followed by returning to the gap, but they are weak so fire a shot at them to destroy them. Guardian : Three of them exist within this castle, and they must be defeated for Apollo to advance towards Goruza. They ware tall, tough, and throw grenades in a spread fashion, so try to stay at a distance as you destroy them. Red Sentry : They are fast moving patrollers that will smartly patrol an area and try to get Apollo. They are tough, so try to fight them with the best weaponry. Roller : These red balls will stop to produce a short robot that will fire one shot before going back into the roll mode. A few shots will take them down, but they are small enough that they are difficult to destroy. Spider : These fast moving bugs will patrol the roof, but will drop down to fight Apollo. a few shots will take them out. Statue : Some of these indestructible beings will shoot small bullets from their eyes. Tank Sentry: These small and fast bots will move relentlessly at Apollo, firing off round after round of attacks. Take them out quickly with a few well aimed shots or find higher ground to dodge them. UFO : These big and slow discs will release multiple spread shots out of their opening on top of the craft before flying off. Kill them from below for safety reasons. Walker : They walk along the ground until they get trapped or fall off a cliff. A few shots will take these somewhat tough customers down. Wall Cannon: They shoot off fireballs in a steady manner, but are rather weak, allowing for easy killing. Whirler : They whirl across the floor rapidly, firing off a shot as they try to ram Apollo. Their poor defense allows for easy removal however. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~Outside Path~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Go right past the Drone Bots and Creeps (ignore the first door) to enter the second door (Bet A Box) if you wish to. Jump to the higher area to access the two doors (left is a weapon Power-Up, right is an Item Shop), followed be heading right to fight Drone Bots and UFOs. If you wish to play Rescue The Fairy, shoot the star barrier below five times to find the mini-game entrance. Continue right to find a dangerous set of jumps across the gap (get the Energy Box if you dare), enter the low door to fight a Whirler for two Life Boxes, and then go out to fight to the right past some Drone Bots and a Creep (the door above it Bet A Box). An UFO and a Drone Bot will appear just before Apollo attempts to cross a gap on small platforms while fighting more UFOs and a couple Gap Missiles. Take on a Drone Bot and a Walker as you head right to find more Walkers and Drone Bots guarding a low door (useless info) and a high door (Whirler guarding two Life Boxes). Head right, facing Drone Bots and Walkers, enter the high door for a free 20 E's, and then cross the big gap using the small platforms while dueling with Drone Bots. Now head through the door to enter the Goruza Castle! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~Castle Path~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Red Sentries greet Apollo as he hops across the gaps to ignore the door above to continue right to see an Air Well in the roof (it leads to an Item Shop, but it is guarded by Bouncers and a Spider). The next challenge is a Bug Bot and three suddenly appearing Red Sentries by a low Air Well (leads to a Treasure Box Room past Bouncers, an altered version of Drone Bot, and some suddenly appearing Red Sentries). Continuing along the main path, Apollo will find a Weapon Power-Up door, and then the door to the hangar to find Gardex waiting for the price of 50 E's. ______ ___________ ___________ ______ |1 2 |-| |-| |-| 3 4| |______| |___________| |___________| |______| 1. Starting Point 3. Dock Ship 2. Board Ship 4. Leads to Section 2 Two sets of smaller and slower than normal Streakers will attack, followed by a "P" Power-Up found underneath some Fighters. A Ground Cannon is next, followed by Fighters coming at Apollo in a narrow corridor. Upon exiting the narrow corridor, a splitting enemy comes the front with two Streakers coming from behind, followed by more Fighters and two splitting enemies guarding the doors (take the top door). All the platforms here fire continually, so be wary of them as touching them will also hurt Apollo. Tank Bots attack, followed by Streakers coming from behind as the "S" Power-Up is available, and then more Tank Bots as a "P" Power-Up appears. Avoid the splitting enemy, battle more Tank Bots, and then deal with a Mask before choosing the top door to find the hangar to continue further into the Goruza Castle! Enter the door above immediately to battle a Whirler for two Life Boxes, fight the Bug Bots as you hop across the gaps, and then face a Wall Cannon by two Air Wells. The top Air Well leads to an Item Shop if you fight the Attackers, Red Sentries, and Spiders. The rest of the room you are in leads to a Rescue The Fairy if you wish to brave the Wall Cannons, Spiders, Statues, and Rollers. The bottom Air Well brings Spiders and a Tank Sentry, followed by a Red Sentry and more altered Drone Bots. Continue across the gap to find a door (Bet A Box) and a door to the hangar where a Jennex awaits at the price of 50 E's. Head through the door to the next challenge. ______ ___________ ___________ ______ |1 2 |-| | | | | 3 4| |______| |___________|-|___________|-|______| 1. Starting Point 3. Dock Ship 2. Board Ship 4. Leads to Section 2 Fast Streakers (two sets), slow and small Streakers (two sets), followed by Tank Bots in a narrow corridor. Fast Streakers, a Patroller, and some Ground Cannons guard a "S" Power-Up, which are all followed by a Mask guarding the two doors (choose the bottom door). All the platforms here fire continually, so be wary of them as touching them will also hurt Apollo. Patrollers and Fighters guard a "S" Power-Up, followed by Apollo cutting over the low wall to face a splitting enemy and Patrollers guarding a "P" Power-Up (below first set of shooting platforms). More patrollers await Apollo, followed by Fighters as he cuts over a low wall, and finally Patrollers and two splitting enemies guarding the path to the doors (choose the top door). All the platforms here fire continually, so be wary of them as touching them will also hurt Apollo. Tank Bots start the fight off here, followed by homing enemies guarding the "S" Power-Up near middle of the screen, and then more Tank Bots. Fighters appear next, as do Tank Bots and homing enemies (four sets) guarding the "P" Power-Up, and then a splitting enemy guarding the doors. Take the bottom door to find the hangar so Apollo can continue further into the Goruza Castle! Fight the Red Sentries and the Wall Cannon, and then choose between the two Air Wells (the door is useless advice). The bottom Air Well is your first spot to go, and you will fight a Red Sentry immediately, followed by Bouncers and an Energy Box. The door you see will be an Item Shop (I suggest a Laser/Mirror combo OR a Typhoon for a cheap win), which is followed by more Bouncers and then a Guardian (the Typhoon saves the long fight). Now backtrack to the first room of this area of the castle. Go through the top Air Well to fight a Red Sentry, two Spiders, and then another Red Sentry before tangling with some Wall Cannons (ignore the Air Well leading down as it has nothing to offer for now and the door is a Whirler guarding two Life Boxes). A Drone Bot guards an high Air Well, which Apollo will ignore for now as he continue to the right to pass a Drone Bot to fight the second Guardian. Shoot him repeatedly, jump him as he nears, and then go to far wall before ducking to throw more shots at it. Now head left to enter the Air Well leading up to fight the Spiders, enter the door for a weapon Power-Up (if needed), and then head right to fight the Guardian (shoot him repeatedly, jump him as he nears, and then go to far wall before ducking to throw more shots at it). Now return to the main corridor you just left. Enter the door there to battle a Whirler for two Life boxes, followed by heading through the Air Well below. Fight the Attackers, avoid the Red Sentry, and then go past the Statues carefully while fighting a couple Red Sentries to enter the door (it is there ONLY IF you have defeated all three Guardians in the proper order AND on the same life) to find your flying saucer to go after the BOSS! ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~Goruza~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~ The fight will begin with Goruza'a arms firing off fireballs rapidly, so shoot away to destroy them as you dodge their attacks. Next is the main body, that fires a multitude of fireballs, so concentrate on dodging those incoming fireballs as you fire away (try to land your shots near the eye of the vehicle). The small red head will break off of the exploding vehicle to back up to the right side of the screen, charge across the screen to the left side, and then back up slowly, firing off three deadly spread shots to the left. You must shoot the head as it comes at Apollo, dodge out of the way, and then move forward so first two spread attacks will miss, and then dodge the third one as you line Apollo up to shoot the head once more till it is defeated. YOU WON! YOU BEAT GARUZA!! CELEBRATE!!! Right? Well, Queen Maria informs you that you have on final mission... o--------------o | World Twelve | o--------------o Kick ass ship? Check. Goruza's Fortress on radar? Check. Ready to finally free XEXYZ from the hold of GORUZA? Checkity check check! Start off by charging forward to shoot the window before dodging out of the way to the side, and then start flying a circle around the weak spot while the enemy fires. Every time your aimer passes near the window, shoot at it as you continue your circle (does not matter if it is clockwise or counter clockwise), and if you manage to dodge enough of the shots while landing enough of your Force Star shots of your own, you will liberate XEXYZ from underneath the heel of the mechanical enemy! You have done it! Go enjoy the ending! You deserve it! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------Attack Items---------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) This section will look at all the Attack Items contained within the game. o-------------o | Platforming | o-------------o ======== 45B Ball ======== This weapon will allow up to two balls to be thrown at one time, and they will fly around the screen, bouncing off of walls at 45 degree angles. However, they will go until they hit an enemy, hit Apollo, or bounce into a fifth surface (where they disappear). A Powered-Up 45B Ball will fly around the screen at a much higher rate of speed. ========= Wave Ball ========= A weapon that fires two shots in a slow, wavy fashion across the screen. These balls will pass through structures for Apollo. Keep in mind that they are slow and may leave Apollo defenseless for a few seconds. A Powered-Up Wave Ball will increase the speed at which it travels as well as adding in a second ball above the original one to make the weapon more powerful. ========= Moon Ball ========= A small Moon will circle Apollo as he fires, both his gun and the Moon firing off shots. This weapon can fire continually due to fast nature of the bullets it fires. While ducking, the Moon will turn the ammunition into a circling whip until Apollo gets to his feet again. A Powered-Up Moon Ball will add a second Moon to orbit around Apollo, firing off an additional shot. your weapon will also have a little more power behind it as well. ===== Laser ===== Apollo will raise his hand to fire a stream of a Laser shot straight across the screen. Repeatedly pressing the B Button will make a continuous stream of fire of the most powerful weapon Apollo can use. A Powered-Up Laser will double his firepower with a second Laser. o--------o | Flying | o--------o ============= Power Capsule ============= A small "P" Power-Up, it will increase the power behind your shots as well as add in extra bullets (even giving Apollo a spread-fire attack). ============= Speed Capsule ============= A small "P" Power-Up, it will increase the rate of fire for your shots. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------Magic Items----------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) This section will look at all the Magic Items contained within the game. o-----------o | Foot Wing | o-----------o The power of your jump will be greater than the "UP + A" jump, and you can slow your descent while increasing your distance on the jump by pressing the A Button to "walk on air". Three enemy hits will remove the effects. o--------o | Mirror | o--------o An identical version of Apollo will be stacked on top of the original. This will double the amount of firepower comign from Apollo, but three enemy hits can remove it. o---------o | Typhoon | o---------o After acquiring this Power-Up, Apollo will be invulnerable for 9 seconds as he spins wildly while attacking the enemy. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------Items-------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) This section will look at the various Items Apollo wins form enemies as well as what he can find laying around the game. o-------------o | Energy Ball | o-------------o Won by defeating enemies, these small E's will award one Energy point to Apollo. Collect many of these as better Attack Items and Magic Items may be purchased, not too mention the buying of Power-Ups for weapons and rides in Cyborg Riders in Mechanical Castles. o------------o | Energy Box | o------------o Won by defeating enemies and found laying around levels, these big E's will award five Energy points to Apollo. Collect many of these as better Attack Items and Magic Items may be purchased, not too mention the buying of Power-Ups for weapons and rides in Cyborg Riders in Mechanical Castles. o-----------o | Life Ball | o-----------o Won by defeating enemies, these small L's will award one Life point back to Apollo. These are great for allowing Apollo to fight for a longer period of time. o----------o | Life Box | o----------o Won by defeating enemies and found laying around levels, these big L's will award five Life points to Apollo. These are great for allowing Apollo to fight for a longer period of time. o------------o | Force Star | o------------o Win one on each island by defeating the Devil hiding there, allowing Apollo to enter the mechanical Castle located on that same island. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------Mini-Games------------------------------------ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) This section will cover the various Mini-Games that can be played. o-------------------o | Treasure Box Room | o-------------------o Jump and hit the ghost into the Treasure Box you think holds the riches of E's for Apollo. o-----------o | Bet A Box | o-----------o Pick form three different Treasure boxes to make more money than your initial investment... if you are lucky enough! o----------------o | Rescue A Fairy | o----------------o Defeat the enemy to receive some E's for your effort! The best strategy is to shoot from below a few times, run away, and then repeat after he dive bombs Apollo. o-----------------o | Revive The Lady | o-----------------o An empty bath tub awaits as you do battle to release the spirit trapped within! The best strategy is to shoot from below a few times, run away, and then repeat after he dive bombs Apollo. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------Bosses-------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) This section will look at all the bosses that can be fought, including the Devil that holds the Force Star. Keep in mind the order of the Bosses is used here, so no worries if you do not know their names! Please note that the Devil is found in odd-numbered levels, and his strategy works the same for each area (the weapon being used is only possible change). o-------o | Devil | o-------o His room has a few columns on the floor, which are the same height as the pedestal upon which he resides. He will not attack in the first four seconds, but following this time frame, he will attack every one and a half seconds with a spread shot that fires three bullets. To defeat him, you will need to shoot him in the head. You have two options when it comes to the Devil, both of which carries their own risk. The first method involves getting in close to stand on top of the column on the right to jump the incoming shots and fire at the Devil's head when you jump. The second option requires that the weapon be long range enough to allow Apollo to stand to the left of the left column to use the "UP + A" jump to get high enough so the peak of the jump has Apollo high enough to shoot the Devil's head, again doing so between vollies of shots from the Devil. If you have the Moon Ball weapon, you can also jump up to allow your circling Moon to bash the Devil's head as you shoot it, but this requires getting really close, which will usually result in him shooting Apollo. o--------o | Braiza | o--------o A red-coloured floating brain with antennae is the boos of this mechanical castle, he will fire off a constant stream of bubbles straight across the screen, originating from the eyes. Your job is to attack continually while concentrating on dodging the incoming attacks from Braiza. o--------o | Jeliza | o--------o A large, upright ship that has two main attacks: a spread attack from a gun on the bottom of the ship (it sends out bullets in a set of three), and then a fire cannon from the centre area of the ship that also shoot s in a spread pattern of three huge fireballs. Concentrate on keeping the Demex ship healthy while landing a massive amount of shots to the enemy. o--------o | Stinza | o--------o A rather prominent eye on this guy screams out what his weakness is (the EYE in case you are not catching on). Keep in mind that the eyeball can be defeated, you need to be dead-on in your shooting to do this. o--------o | Megaza | o--------o An anteater like enemy, it has a very basic attack pattern of firing three sets of blades at Apollo that can be dodged by flying in between the offending appendages before he charges at the left side of the screen (dodge up or down). He will then repeat this same old attack pattern, so dodge carefully and attack continually to fall this rather easy Boss. o--------o | Shelza | o--------o A shellfish-like appearance for this bad guy, and he is rather simple in pattern but rather deadly in his attacks. He will slowly advance towards Apollo while firing three blue spread sets towards Apollo, followed by firing three blue spread sets towards Apollo as he back off. Your job is to concentrate on moving between the incoming bullets while continually firing to hit the massive mollusk. If you have Mirror power when you enter, this fight will be easy, but remember only your bottom Apollo is vulnerable, so get that one positioned between the incoming spread shots. o--------o | Gidoza | o--------o A giant bird-like entity, it will attack from it's talons with two air blasts, followed by another two air blasts accompanied by two small bullets from it's mouth. This will all occur as it moves up and down on the right side of the screen, so the pattern is mind numbingly easy to predict. You will, as always, fire continually to win as fast as possible, and you will concentrate on dodging the Gidoza's projectiles for the easy win. o--------o | Loboza | o--------o This lobster-like creation will attack Apollo with one main projectile attack, which is a steady stream of bubbles. A tougher boss that requires some sharp movements to beat! o-------o | Jawza | o-------o This shark machine has three viscously strong attacks that work incredibly well together. With this pattern being so tough on Apoolo, your job is to fire crazily before mouth bullets start, cut above Jawza to drop bombs (A Button), and then continue this until he has done the three spread fire attacks. You will then repeat the pattern to win this tough fight. o--------o | Horrza | o--------o A battle that is INSANELY DIFFICULT, Horrza will bring superior firepower to the battle most of the time (even with Mirror and a Powered-Up Laser, it is still just an EVEN fight)! Be sure to enter with Powered-Up Laser, full life meter, and a Mirror Magic Item handy to improve your chances. o--------o | Cavuza | o--------o An odd looking character, this guardian will have two main attacks as he moves forward slowly before backing off at the halfway point of the screen. He will fire three fireballs in a spread formation, but one of them will move slower than the others, causing their to be more fireballs on screen. He also will shoot a gigantic missile on occasion, usually when Apollo lines up with the green missile battery on the side of him. Your job is to continually fire while staying above the green missiles AND avoid the fireballs as they come (usually you can fit between the bottom two fireballs). o--------o | Goruza | o--------o The fight will begin with Goruza'a arms firing off fireballs rapidly, so shoot away to destroy them as you dodge their attacks. You must shoot the head as it comes at Apollo, dodge out of the way, and then move forward so first two spread attacks will miss, and then dodge the third one as you line Apollo up to shoot the head once more till it is defeated. o-------------------o | Goruza's Fortress | o-------------------o Start off by charging forward to shoot the window before dodging out of the way to the side, and then start flying a circle around the weak spot while the enemy fires. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------Secrets-------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) This section will look at a few secrets contained within the game. o----------------------o | Play the Even Worlds | o----------------------o Password: A2A4A 6A8A0 Apollo will play World Two, World Four, World Six, World Eight, and then World Eleven and World Twelve completely. o----------------------o | Fight The Odd Bosses | o----------------------o Password: BBA13 57912 Apollo will be equipped with a Powered-Up Laser, taking on Braiza, Stinza, Shelza, Loboza, Horrza, Goruza, and Goruza's Fortress only. o------------------------------------------------------------------o | Exploiting The People Of Xexyz For Profit And Better Weaponry... | o------------------------------------------------------------------o As you know, the people you are attempting to save will offer whatever aid they can to Apollo. However, it is possible to use their generousity in a way unintended through the programming, but still easily enough performed. Thanks to Stephen McCrillis for the first two points listed here. -If you find a room where 20E is the gift recieved, immediately re-enter said room to recieve an additional 20E! -If you enter a room where a new weapon is bestowed upon Apollo, immediately re-enter the room to have said weapon powered-up! This saves the payment to another for the same deal! -You can play the gambling games twice, thus increasing your chances of breaking even at the very least! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------Final Word------------------------------------ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10)As is the usual, this walkthrough is copyright property of Brian P.
