What's New -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Version 1.0 (2/10/08): The first version of this FAQ. ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 2. Introduction -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Wagyan Land 3 is the last in the series of Wagyan Land games for the Famicom. It is a platformer with its own unique quirks, namely your attack consisting of a scream which only stuns your foes. Also, there are no boss fights per se but challenges in the form of word chain, memory, or numbers games. It is a rather lengthy adventure, hence the password feature, but it is quite fun to play, so I would recommend trying this as well as its predecessors. ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 3. Controls -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Control Pad: Move your character Start: Pause/resume game A: Jump B: Attack ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 4. Gameplay Modes -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= In this game, there are 3 options to choose from at the initial start menu: スタート (Start) パスワード (Password) たいせん (Battle) When you pick Start to begin your game, you can pick the difficulty at either Normal (ひとなみコース) or Hard/God (かみさまコース). In Battle mode, you can pick from the following options (2 players can battle in this mode also): しんけいすいじゃく (Memory) しりとり (Word Chain) すうじさがし (Numbers) やめる (Exit) ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 5. Walkthrough -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= =============== Space Station 1 =============== Begin by heading right and jumping to collect a star in midair. Grab the power icon on the ground, then continue onward. Jump from platform to platform, stunning the enemies you meet, and grab the next power icon. Grab the stars in the air as you progress, and be careful of the brown enemy that jumps toward you. Up ahead, you will meet the boss, which is an Elephant. In this boss battle, you will have to play a word chain game. There will be a grid of picture cards, with some of them already facing up. The boss will select a card and you will have to select the card that continues the word chain. For instance, if the boss selects a dolphin (いるか) card, you will have to pick the card whose name starts with the (か) symbol, like the crab (かに). The cards that will be used in this game are totally random, so you will not experience the same results every time. If you pick a wrong card, you lose 5 seconds off your time; pick the right card and you will gain 10 seconds and a point. If you successfully clear the board, or the boss picks a card that cannot be chained, you win. Run out of time and you will lose, and be forced to repeat the level. ========= Spacewalk ========= Start by jumping to collect the stars and a power icon. Then, jump onto the moving platform to progress. Because of the low gravity in this space-themed stage, your jump will be much higher/longer, so keep that in mind as you head through this level. Continue jumping to the right, stunning the flying enemies you encounter. When you reach the part with 3 crater plateaus on a long platform, continue to the right edge and do your attack facing right. You will see a hidden diamond shape flicker in midair; hit it enough times to open up a portal. Jump in and you will play a number matching game where you have to select the number that was displayed below before the boss (Kangaroo) gets to it. After you fill your meter on the left with correct answers, you win. When you return to the actual level, continue jumping to the right and collecting the power icons as you stun the enemies above. Grab a bunch of stars and hop over a bunch of moving platforms, then continue to the end of the level. =============== Space Station 2 =============== Inside a space station of sorts, you will be riding along on a conveyor belt. Stun the enemies you see and jump to collect stars, as well as a couple of power icons. After the second power icon, you will see a block that falls from above onto the belt before retreating upward. Be careful as you pass underneath it. Then, just continue to the right while grabbing the power icons and stars and stunning enemies, and you will soon reach the end. ======== Mountain ======== Out here, you will have to deal with some bumpy terrain in the form of high platforms to jump over/across. Head to the right while grabbing stars and stunning the enemies. Between two of the high wall platforms, drop down to grab a power icon after stunning the enemy there as well. Continue going all the way to the right by jumping along, collecting power icons/stars and using your attack to stun enemies. After a short enough while, you will be at the end. There, you will be confronted by the Kangaroo boss. For this battle, you will have to play a picture card matching game against the Kangaroo. There is a grid of 24 cards, which means there are 12 pairs of pictures. You each take turns picking two cards to try and match them. At the end of the game, if you matched more correct pairs, you win the game and the level. =============== Space Station 3 =============== This level sports another unique gameplay aspect: the ability to walk on the ceiling. In the background you will see a gray horizontal wall with the top half pointing upward and the bottom pointing downward. If you jump above the center line, you will switch your orientation to the ceiling or the floor. With this in mind, head to the left. If you tap A, you will do a shorter hop so you don't end up switching unintentionally. As you progress, jump between the ceiling and floor to make your way through the level, collecting three power icons, dodging enemies, and making it past wide pits on both the ceiling and the floor. After you pass the spiked balls, grab the fourth power icon and run/jump your way to the end of the stage shortly thereafter. ======= Pyramid ======= Here, head to the left and jump across two high pillars, being cautious of the fast-moving enemies below. Collect the power icon and some stars in the air as you jump your way to the left. Stun the larger enemy atop one of the platforms so you can pass it safely, then continue onward. Grab a power icon in a lower alcove, then jump from the elevated platform over the tall pillar. Stun the next couple of enemies, then when you reach the edge of the level, jump up the ledges to continue vertically. As you jump up the ledges, be careful of the ladybug enemies that will try to fall on you from above. Stun the enemies you encounter as you jump your way to the top area. Once you reach the very top platform, the stage will end. ======= Railway ======= For this stage, the screen will scroll to the left as you ride on a spaceship of sorts. As your ride moves along, you can jump onto the neon platforms on the way to collect stars and get around an obstruction. Make sure you don't get trapped/crushed by the screen though! Fortunately, your jump will be high in this stage due to the lower gravity, so you shouldn't have much trouble jumping your way through here. The only advice would be to stun any flying enemies in your way, and to not worry so much about collecting every single star if you don't feel that you can make it to the next part safely without ending up trapped. When you finally reach the end of this lengthy scrolling stage, you will be confronted by a boss, the White Horse. Your "battle" will consist of a number matching game, where you will have a grid of numbers with only numbers 1-25 showing. You will then have to pick each one from the grid, one number at a time. For each correct selection, you will get a point on your meter. Fill your meter and clear the board before the boss does to win! ====== Slides ====== As the name implies, you will deal with plenty of slides and slopes in this level. You will be able to alternate between red and blue slides as you make your way through the stage. Collect the power icons and stars, and stun/jump over the enemies you reach along the way. The trick to getting across some wide gaps is to gain momentum on the slide and jumping at the right moment. When you reach the pink ledges in midair, be quick when jumping across them as they will sink into the abyss. Try not to move too quickly so you don't end up falling into a pit or running right into an enemy. Along the way, you will also find pink platforms that look like ducks that you can jump on. As you ride them to the left, they will sink, so be ready to jump to the next one quickly. Continue along the slides and jumping between platforms, until you reach the end. Once you get there, you will face the Beaver boss. For the boss encounter here, you will play a card matching memory game of sorts. You each will take turns flipping two cards to see if they match. If they do, you get a point and will be able to pick again; if you don't match up two cards, your turn is over and the boss will go. You need to make at least 8 successful pairs in order to win the game. Once all cards have been flipped and you have made enough pairs, you will win. ============ Space Flight ============ Here, you will have to deal with another scrolling level. It is a relatively short stage, but you need to constantly be on the move in order to make it through. There are no enemies; all you have to do is jump from platform to platform as you head all the way left. When you reach the final platform, you will be met by a Spaceship, which happens to be the boss here. The battle here will be played out in a number matching game similar to the one with the White Horse a couple levels earlier. This time, the grid will display numbers 1-30, and you will have to select them one at a time in order to gain points. If you are not quick, the boss will try to pick them too, taking away points from you. Successfully pick 20 numbers and complete the grid to win the fight and the level. ==== Farm ==== Here, you will get to play in a more brightly-colored level for a change. Get through this level by heading all the way left, jumping between giant-sized vegetation and stunning the smaller versions which act as your enemies. Collect the power icons and stars as you progress through this short and simple stage. At the end, you will face off against a Mantis in another word chain game. This is just like the game you played at the end of the very first level of the game. Basically, there will be 16 picture cards visible, and after selecting one, you will have to pick the next card that continues the chain. For example, say you get the beetle (かぶとむし), you will have to pick the picture which starts with (し), like the crab (しおまねき). For each wrong guess, you lose 5 seconds; for a correct one, you gain 10 seconds. You need to make at least 5 correct pairs and clear the board before time runs out to win the battle. ============ Spiral Tower ============ In this stage, as soon as you jump onto the first platform, the screen will start scrolling upward. You will then have to jump from platform to platform in order to reach the top of the level. There will be regular ledges, as well as horizontally-moving ones. Use the stars as a guide to show where to jump onto the horizontal ones. As soon as you land on one, quickly jump to the next platform before you move too far away to reach it safely. Once you reach the final ledge, the screen will stop scrolling and the stage will be over. ==== Pods ==== Here, you will play a simple and straightforward level with a backdrop of pod cities. There isn't really anything here to worry about aside from the occasional jumping brown enemies. Make your way all the way to the right by jumping and running, while collecting the stars and power icons along the way. At the end, you will be confronted by a Robot which acts as the level's boss. You will have to play yet another number matching game here, where you have to pick the designated number as shown below. They will be randomly selected, but luckily there are only numbers 1-30 on here, so it's a slight break from the usual 40. If you don't move quickly enough, the boss will select it, which is one less point you can grab. Successfully pick at least 15 numbers, and complete the board to win the game and finish this stage. ====== Forest ====== Over in this stage, you will have to deal with another situation where you can switch your orientation to standing on the ceiling or floor. The way to do this is to attack the red creatures along your path. The entire level is straightforward since you will have to switch orientation in order to make it further through the level. Stun the enemies and collect the stars/power icons as you navigate this maze of sorts. At the end, you will face a Rooster as the level's boss. For the boss challenge here, you will have to play another word chain game, but this time with all 24 cards visible. You should know how this works by now: pick a card, then pick the next card whose picture starts with the last symbol of the first word. For example, if you pick the trumpet (ラッパ), you will need a word which starts with (パ or ぱ), like parasol (パラソル). If you make enough correct pairs, or the boss picks a card that cannot be paired to anything at all before time runs out, you win. === Gym === For this level, you will have to make your way through a gym setting complete with various equipment to jump over. There is only one hazard in this stage, and that is the fact that gravity is particularly strong. That means your jump won't be so high, and even your vocal attack will have a downward slant to it. Anyway, head to the left, jumping across pieces of equipment and stunning the enemies as you collect stars. When you reach a particular ledge you cannot reach by yourself, you can stun an enemy and jump atop it to reach the ledge safely; just jump quickly so the enemy doesn't become unstunned and kill you! You can do this to reach some of the power icons as well. When you reach the far end of the level, you will face a giant Slime as the boss in a memory game. You each take turns picking two face-down cards to try and make a pair. If you don't make a pair, the other side goes. You will have to make 9 successful pairs (out of 12 total) and clear the board in order to win this battle. At the end of the level, you will also receive a spacesuit complete with jet pack for the next stage. ======= Chasm 1 ======= For this stage, you will have to travel across a giant chasm using your spacesuit and jet pack. Hold A to fly with the jet pack. To descend, let go of A and you will slowly fall. You won't be able to attack enemies in this level either, so you must fly around them. As the screen scrolls towards the right, fly above and below the spiky walls and evade the enemies you come across. There will be a platform you can rest on briefly in the middle of the stage. After another round of flying, you will reach another platform which will signify the level's end. ============= Mountain Side ============= Here, simply head all the way right jumping from ledge to ledge. There will be numerous pink ledges that will sink as soon as you step on them; if you move quickly you should be in no danger here. Stun the enemies you come across and grab the power icons as you come across them. If you power up as a result of collecting four of them, you can basically run/jump through the rest of the level with no problem. When you get to the end, you will be up against another Robot boss. You will play yet another word chain against this boss. If you don't know already how to do this, you pick a card and then you pick the second card whose picture starts with the last symbol of the first card. You need to make at least 8 pairs and clear the board before time runs out in order to win. ========= Asteroids ========= In this stage, jump onto the first platform and the screen will start to scroll vertically upward with giant rocks in the background. Jump your way upward by using the platforms. Be careful since this time, some of them will move up and down, so jump when they are at their high point in order to reach the next platform with no problem. Collect the stars as you make your way to the top area. Once you reach the end, you will face the Flying Saucer boss. For this battle, you will play a memory game where you flip two cards in the hope of making a pair. Take turns doing this, but you will need to make at least 7 of the pairs in order to win. Once the board is cleared, if you made enough successful pairs, you will win this stage and get to move on. ======== Aquarium ======== Starting off here, you will have the effects of low gravity, so you will be able to make wider/higher jumps again. Head to the right, stunning enemies and jumping to collect power icons/stars as you progress along the platforms. When you reach a platform with two blue enemies jumping up and down, get between them and attack to the right while standing on the elevated part of the platform to reveal a hidden diamond. Shoot it enough to open the portal for a bonus room where you will get an extra life. Continuing onward, jump to collect some stars while stunning the flying enemies you encounter as they can be a little bit tricky to get past. Hop across some more ledges and you will soon reach the end of the stage, where you will meet the Elephant boss. You will have to pick each number from 1-40 in order. You need to pick 15 correct numbers to fulfill your quota, then finish the board to win. Remember, if you take long, the boss will pick the numbers for you, taking away points you could have earned! =========== Bounce Room =========== This stage is fairly annoying since if you touch any surface other than the ground you walk on, you will bounce off it. You will also only be able to jump diagonally, so you will need to plan your jumps wisely so you can bounce to the next part without falling into a pit or an enemy. Make your way to the right as safely as you can, while avoiding the spiked balls and blocks that fall from above in certain areas. When you make it to the end of this bouncy maze, the stage will be cleared. ============== Gravity Room 1 ============== In this level, as you would guess, your orientation can be changed from the floor to the ceiling if you jump high enough. Stay in the blue area and you will land on the ground; jump into the pink area and you will be on the ceiling. For the most part, staying in the blue area will be easiest for you, as long as you take small jumps (tap A), but some parts will require you to reach the ceiling to safely progress. Stun the enemies as you reach them, and continue to the end where you will meet a Dog boss. Here, you will have to play yet another memory game with the cards. This time you will need to make 11 of 12 successful pairs in order to win here (the cards with your character on them count as 2 points luckily). Once the board is clear, the game will end and hopefully you'll have won it. Before you go to the next level, you will get the Jet Pack back again for use ahead. ======= Chasm 2 ======= For this level, you will have to once again fly along using the Jet Pack. Maneuver yourself around the spiky walls and dodge the enemies along the way as you collect stars. In the middle area, there will be a ledge you can stand on briefly. The screen will be scrolling for the entire level, so you will need to keep moving anyway. When you reach the end, you will face a Beetle as the level's boss. You will have to play a number matching game, where you must select the displayed number below on the grid before the boss does. Fill your meter with each successful pick as the numbers are randomly drawn. After all numbers have been selected, you will win, as long as you filled your meter high enough. ========= Ice World ========= In this unique stage, when you use your vocal attack, it will freeze in the air, allowing you to jump onto it to cross the gaps and reach higher ledges. In the low-lying areas of this stage, there is also water; fall into it and you will die. Anyway, make your way through this stage by jumping up the ledges and using your icy attack to jump to points further upward/ahead. Once you make it through this level, you will face a Penguin boss. Against the Penguin, you will get to play another word chain game. You should probably be used to this by now, so go ahead and play it through. When there are no more cards left, or the boss picks an unpairable card, you will win. ============== Gravity Room 2 ============== Here, you will have to deal with a similar situation as you did in the Forest stage. That is, there are red enemies that will change your orientation if you hit them. Progress through the stage by going back and forth and hitting these creatures while making your way upward and along the path. Once you reach the top of the level, you will move on to the following stage. ========== Laboratory ========== From the start, head to the left and jump across the platforms while stunning the flying enemies you encounter. The flying ones that move up and down can be annoying especially when you're trying to make it over the gaps safely. At the far left, ride the blue platform to the left, then jump up the ledges to reach the area above. Jump from platform to platform as you make your way to the far right now, being careful to avoid the blue rocks that fly through the air (you cannot stun them). At the right side, go upward and continue to the left. When you reach the end of the level, the room will go dark and you will fall into a trap it seems. You will then meet the evil Professor boss, and will have to play a word chain game against him. It is a very long and tricky game, but once you beat it, the game is done. Congratulations! ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 6. Items -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Power Icon: These are smaller versions of your character. If you collect one, your power meter at the bottom will increase, causing your stun attack to become more effective. If you get four of them, you become invincible and speed up for a limited time.
