INTRODUCTION G0100 =============================================================================== Welcome to 'Utsurun Desu.' for the NES, released by Takara in 1992. The game was only released in Japan. Utsurun Desu. is a Japanese comic strip or manga created by Sensha Yoshida, which ran on Big Comic Spirits issued by Shogakukan from 1989 to 1994. This manga is deemed to be one of the works that initiated the "irrational" or "unreasonable" gag comic genre where the reason of its funniness cannot be explained by logic and traditional sense of humor, which made this title very popular among teens and early twenties at that time. One of the most popular characters that appeared in Uturun Desu was "the otter", Kawauso-kun. [WikiPedia] The guide uses Shift-JIS to display Japanese characters in .txt form. If you cannot see them automatically and just see some garbled font, set your browser encoding or file viewer manually. It is recommended that you view the file in a fixed font such as Courier New as some of the tables with Shift-JIS will look odd without it. If you cannot or do not want to switch, it is not a big deal because the only things this concerns is the shop section. Suggestions, comments or errors - tell me about it. Enjoy! =============================================================================== 02.) BASICS G0200 =============================================================================== Controls: ````````` Left and Right on the D-Pad moves Kawauso left and right as well. Down on the D-Pad ducks/crouches, but also picks up a throwable object. Up on the D-Pad also looks up, and enters shops when available. The B button attacks either standing or when crouched. The attack range is very small. The A button is for jumping. The leap is a little awkward and not very far. When in front of a climbable object such as a cactus, hold the direction against it, as well as up, and hold down A. At the top, tap A to climb on top of the object. START pauses and resumes the game. Special Attacks: ```````````````` By holding down the B button you can change the small picture at the top of the screen. Dance: If you hold it down for just a second, Kawauso does a little dance. Fire Attack: For around two seconds it fires a strong attack into both directions. Screen Attack: The third icon is the hardest to get, but also the most powerful: it harm everyone on the screen at once. Flower: However, if you hold down B for too long it will quickly change to the flower icon which means you are day dreaming for a few seconds and open for enemy attacks. Keep these special attacks in mind when playing the game, you often need them to progress. Display: ```````` The display has a status bar at the top. The left is you health and the lives left. when the bar is empty you lose a life and have to go back to the section start (not stage beginning however). When you lose all lives the game is over. Take note while you flash you may not be harmed but that sometimes the health bar takes a little while to adjust to its true value. You may actually be much lower on health than it seems but suddenly collapse like a dead otter. If you feel like cheating to make this easier, set 0418 to value 16 to keep your health at max. The top right has you money. It is used to buy items at the shops. Defeating enemies adds to your points, buying stuff naturally reduces your wealth by whatever you purchase. =============================================================================== 03.) WALKTHROUGH G0300 =============================================================================== Stage 1: ```````` Punch the trainers away as you start the game. Soon you will meet the second type of enemy: the book. It throws hiragana characters in a straight line and is easy to avoid right now, just watch out when you jump closer. Here is your first shop guarded by another pair of trainers. Whatever or not you are buying something right now (if you are, make it food to recover anything you have lost so far, else keep the cash for later), there is an item lying at the edge of the platform. Quickly pick it up and throw it at the book over the small gap. Jump the next gap and duck before the book gets the chance to shoot you. Dispose of it. Next you have a flying enemy, like starfish flying in a circle. It will swoop down once in a while so be careful. What next, super far jump over the field of spikes OR we could simply walk straight on. The green hill is not actually scenery but you walk up and down it. Enter the cave and follow the arrow - bump! Walk all the way to the wall and start walking back. The floor will give way and you find yourself at the bottom. There is a shop on the left if you want it, but the cave continues to the right. Kill the trainers and then jump on the Mario-style pipes. The book is a little tricky to avoid, just quickly jump up and slam the B button when you have an opening. The next lethal foe is none other than - a guy playing skip rope. Bump into him so he gets knocked over. However, once he is on the ground shouting for his mommy, touching actually hurts you. Carefully crouch and punch him. If you take too long he will get back up and start skipping rope again. Remember the Mario-style pipes? Well the last one actually has a Mario-style use in which you press down to slide through. Once back outside you have to avoid one of those starfish flying around. After one more pair of sneakers and another starfish, the boss will walk in. Boss: Green Dude Really easy, but you can be caught off guard. His attack consists of taking his or hat off and throwing it in one direction, from where it comes back like a boomerang. Wait until he stops walking and takes off his hair/hat, but be aware that he sometimes stops and keeps walking a second later. When you are sure he is stopped to throw, get close and punch him a few times. By the time his projectile has come back you should already be walking away before he starts moving again. Beating him is worth 1,200,000 in cash plus the feeling you just made him cry. Stage 2: ```````` The ghost is easy to kill, but it comes back soon afterwards. Move into the forest and meet Green Dude again. He will tell you it's impossible to get out of here but of course there is a way. When you see the ghost afterwards, use the Dance skill to entice it, then move right to get out. It may take a few attempts as you loop through the forest. It depends on where you are standing. There is shop and a guy throwing down rocks (or melons?). This is where the controls are tricky, as you need to jump to the top right with the head bumping into the platforms too easily, as well as the guy throwing rocks down of course. If you want, stay at safety and use the Screen-kill ability to slay the guy before getting too close. There is nothing else to do bump jump into the waterfall, which lands you on some logs. You can try jumping from log to log but eventually you will fall into the water. Swim right, a large pink fish will overtake you but just ignore it. You will find a cave where you can leave the water. The skip rope guy is back and this time you know how to defeat him. Boss: Large Bee You have to avoid the small pebbles it throws in threes. The only place to attack it physically is from the small plateau on the left and it requires precise jumping. Instead, I would prefer the Screen-attack skill but it still takes a while to shrink this bee down to its original size. Stage 3: ```````` Avoid the starfish and then punch out the white guys posting something on the wall. There will be another starfish as you reach the building. Enter it. Walk right while defeating another couple poster guys and ride the elevator up all the way to floor 11. You will have to re-enter it each time you reach another floor. Basically you know where to go because I told you to, but there are many rooms with people to talk to and also shops (such as Floor 2, room on the left). If you do not want to talk to anyone and make this level really short, enter the first room on the left up on Floor 11 to find the boss. Boss: Kids These two will drop from the sky and fire into both directions. You can jump over it with good timing, and then move out of the way. The ideal way to hit them is the Fire attack. They are much easier than the previous boss for sure. Stage 4: ```````` Enter the airport hanger and avoid the frog and band member that run at you. At the end you have to enter the shop, and when you exit you will be near the parked airplane. Jump up the ramp and enter the plane itself. Avoid a couple of more enemies and leave via the door at the end. You find yourself at the BOTTOm of the plane, weird indeed. Avoid the starfish creature and walk forward a bit more, the boss will show himself. BOSS: Superman As far as I know, his only attack is swooping down from right or left. Duck and throw punches or a special attack. It's quite a basic fight. Stage 5: ```````` The guys standing around hurt you, so punch them out. Do not fall into the holes either, they damage you. After jumping over a few cactuses there is a shop. At the base of the cactus, hold up-right and A and you'll start climbing up it. At the top tap A to jump over it. Get rid of the dancers until you reach the next area. Be careful of the guys dumping things on you. You can get rid of them, but it is mostly easier to just ignore them. This is a short area and you can avoid everything with some attention. A good jump will let you get to the next block without taking damage. You should land just in front of the books and slap them. This is actually just a two-screen portion and the next one is even just one screen with a bunch of dancers. BOSS: Royal Family The King simply walks from left to right. Jump over him when he approaches and either be quick about slapping him from the back or just start your special attack. After around 10 hits he is replaced by the Queen. The Queen is faster than the King but otherwise the same tactics apply. Apparently you are in for some kind of "royaltycide", because after the Queen you have to take on the Princess but that is it. Stage 6: ```````` This stage starts out as the usual deal but as soon as you hit the large crater you will turn into swimming mode. Tap A to swim and hold down the direction you want to go. There is a long stretch of at least six or seven of these stars that rotate, and once in a while a blue banana drops right down the middle. The banana will hit you if you go to fast. Once you hit a small ledge you will know that at least two more bananas will drop and there are no more stars, so take it easy. When you bump into the high wall you will return to normal. Wait here a second though, do a little special dance to reach through the wall so that another banana drops that would otherwise hit you while you are up on the wall. To climb the wall, press and hold Forward and Up while holding A. Tap A again as you reach the top. Here is where you would have hit that banana. Speaking of, there are a few more dropping as you climb the steps so take is slow as before. BOSS: Sandman To keep at a safe place, stand just where the sign is. The only thing you must be concerned with here are the balls of sand that will be chucked again you once in a while. They can be dodged with ease, a normal jump will do. As for taking him down, use the fire special attack. It also takes care of the sand balls but you are more concerned about actually harming him. As soon as you see the small hill on the right side of the sandpit, start the effect and let it rip so he gets hit on the way over. He usually disappears about halfway down the pit, leaving you enough time to hit him. Often he goes even further, making it even better for you. He only requires around 5-6 hits. Stage 7: ```````` This is a little tough. You are constantly on ice which means your footing is unstable. In fact, some of these jumps are impossible to make, landing you in the water. However, that is the better way to play through this anyway. Ditch all that jumping and slapping enemies that will most likely drain your energy within seconds. This isn't a sales pitch - jump in the water already. You can basically swim underneath the entire level, including the boss. At the end you have to get out again, but by then there are no more enemies left and very valuable diamonds to be picked up. As you slide to the very end, enter the cave to finish. OPTIONAL BOSS: Ice Creature I say optional because you can just swim underneath the south pole, but if you get out before you can actually take this guy on. He lobs snowballs at you, so just fire your special attack and get it over with. Stage 8: ```````` As soon as you start, hit the guy coming towards you and jump to avoid the arrow meant for him. Jump into the water and swim underneath three propellers, then get back out when you see and item waiting for you. There are two shops coming up. As you go up the ramp there is another rope dancer, get rid of him as well as the guys insane enough to be in your way. When you are on the green moving platform, make sure you jump very late to reach the other ledge. As you reach another moving platform soon, get up to the item and pick it up, then drop all the way down into the abyss. You will reach the next area, then quickly throw the item at the guy walking towards you and dodge the arrow meant for him. Get rid of the stupid guy with his jump rope guarding the shop. For your next stunt you have to throw the item (always the tire?) onto the spikes and use it to get across as it rolls around. The end is near. BOSS: Circus Couple The guy is your first concern, he will constantly move around and you have to jump over him. You should try and get the fire attack going as it also blocks some of the hearts thrown by the lady above. After a few hits the guy is already dead, but the lady is much tougher to reach. I would go with the Screen Attack, but you have to start it almost as she leaves the screen herself so it will hit her when she comes back. This way you are invulnerable to her hearts and your only worry is screwing up the attack and standing around in your flower pose. She also seems to take quite a large number of hits to finally kneel down. Stage 9: ```````` This is only a boss fight, but you have to walk through one room, take the elevator up and quickly make a decision. You can't go wrong, but to make it quick say "Yes" (left answer) and then "No" (right answer) to face the boss. BOSS: Creator? His attacks are lethal and hard to dodge. He spews out half a dozen of meteors and most of them come towards you. They are easy enough to hit and take out, but by that time you almost have no time to hit him before the next bunch comes in. His only weak point is the head, and it turns red as soon as it took some damage. I would normally refer to you to use the Screen Attack but it just too slow here. Instead, get rid of the meteors and quickly move in for a jump-hit. After around ten or twelve he will be done for. END =============================================================================== 04.)
