As far as I know, the two games are pretty much the same aside from the language used. Why did I use the Japanese version rather than the American version? I don't know, that's a good question! I originally typed up this guide in 2004; as of the moment that I am writing this introduction, that would be almost 7 years ago. I also never got around to completing the guide! I have made a few small updates to the guide in 2011, but I will probably never fully complete this guide. I tried playing this game again after all these years, but my skills just aren't where they used to be. Because the version of the game I played was in Japanese, that means I had no idea what was said to me in the game about 90% of the time. There are a few words displayed in English (such as the mission titles), but not much else. The mission briefings were a complete mystery to me, so thank goodness they included pictures with the descriptions. Whenever Dr. Newron talked to me in between missions, I had to guess at what the new upgrades might be. Most of those guesses were probably wrong. :-) _______________________________________________________________________________ [2!]Controls[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][ The controls are as basic as candy apple pie. Let's go over them. _______________________________ | | | _ Nintendo | | _| |_ _ _ | ||_ o _| SELECT START (_) (_) | | |_| [ ] [ ] B A | | | |_______________________________| Directional Pad - Navigates menu, controls direction of movement for aircraft. Select - Switchs current weapon being used. Start - Accept selection in menu, pause during game. B - Fire currently selected weapon. A - Fire Vulcan cannon (machine gun). B + A - Launch chaff (protects against missiles). _______________________________________________________________________________ [3!]The Menus[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] ==== The Main Menu Options: - START - PASSWORD - INTRODUCTION - CREDITS == Start Start brings you to the mission select menu. == Password Brings you to the password screen. If you put in the wrong password, it automatically starts a new game for you. == Introduction Displays story and plot for the game. == Credits Displays the credits. ==== The Mission Select Menu Choose one of the four missions available. ==== Weapons Loadout Menu - (Current Selection) - UNLOAD - AUTO ARM - FINISHED == (Current Selection) Whatever weapon you currently have selected. Scroll through them by pushing left and right. == UNLOAD Unloads your weapon. == AUTO ARM Automatically fits your craft with weapons best suited for the mission. == FINISHED Continues. _______________________________________________________________________________ [4!]The Equipment[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] ==== FA-18 Hornet This blue little baby is one stylin' ride. Is it speed and prowess you be lookin' for? Then this is what you need in your hands today. ==== AV-8 Harrier Blue not your style? Well how about this! This green bandit can hover in mid air! That's right, you lookin' to impress your friends? You be all over the enemy in this boy. ==== F-14 Tomcat The green bandit not for you? Well how about the gray powerhouse! This thing can crush even the most determined of Cambodian pilots. Watch your back! ==== Aircraft Carrier Ahhh, the home base from which destruction is brought unto the enemy. This is where you'll live throughout the game. Although, you will need to make a stop at the White House to use their projection machine and review your mission goals. ==== White House Projection Machine This is where it's all at. This thing tells you what you need to do, who you should go after, and who's behind the terror of the enemy. ==== White House Projection Screen Equally important as any of your aircraft, how would you know what your targets look like if you didn't have this? This item is so important to national security that it's kept at the White House. It should be an honor to be able to see one of these in action. _______________________________________________________________________________ [5!]Weapons of War[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][ Normally it would be faster and easier to just use the auto arm option, but for those of you that like customization, this section is for you. ==== Vulcan Cannon You have this machine gun by default. I primarily use it in dogfights, as that is probably where it is most useful. ==== Fuel Tank Extends fuel capacity for longer missions. As a good rule of thumb, take these along for every mission, just in case. I mean, you never know for sure, right? ==== Sidewinder Air to air heatseeking missile, with a relatively limited range. Good at taking out those annoying enemy fighters. Pretty much the standard missile. ==== Sparrow Medium range air to air missile. Requires a maintained radar lock on target. This missile serves as a good alternative to the Sidewinder. ==== Air Laser A forward-firing air-to-air laser. One solid hit demolishes any plane. ==== Asraam Newly developed European missile with short range, high speed, and great tracking. ==== Thunderball Non-guided missile, it travels a fixed distance and explodes, destroying all enemy aircraft present. ==== Phoenix Foolproof air to air missile, it destroys its target even when it moves off- screen. ==== Rockeye Clears a large area of enemy ground forces. Good for large strongholds. An excellent tool used for clearing out enemy forces below you. ==== AS-X-10 A Soviet air to ground missile adapted for use on the Tomcat. ==== Ground Laser An air-to-ground laser which fires directly downwards, severely damaging any object below it. ==== Harpoon Specially designed shipsinking missile, tears apart the hull of the most powerful warships. Obviously, this is your best option when it comes to sinking enemy ships. ==== Sea Eagle A British shipsinking missile of awesome potency especially designed for the Harrier. ==== Maverick Destroys a small area, but can be loaded in clusters of three. Good for precision bombing. _______________________________________________________________________________ [6!]Items[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] Items will appear from time to time which you can fly into. (B) - Extra bombs. (F) - Extra fuel. (M) - Extra missiles. (R) - Emergency repairs (what it repairs is random). _______________________________________________________________________________ [7!]Info You Need[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] The missions are in order of left to right, top before bottom. I don't know Japanese, so I don't know what they are saying in the mission briefings. Likewise, I also don't know what Dr. Newron is saying when he is talking about aircraft upgrades. Whenever selecting an aircraft, it's best to choose whichever is already highlighted. It's the game's way of telling you this is the best choice. It's a good idea to just use "AUTO ARM" at the weapons loadout menu. Once you get good at using the machine gun in dogfights, you will rarely require the use of air-to-air missiles until much later in the game. The machine gun is useless against buildings in ground attacks, so keep in mind during ground attacks that your ammo is limited when targets are buildings. _______________________________________________________________________________ [8!]Powder Keg[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][ ==== Mission Briefing: Shows a picture of some storage buildings. ==== Dogfighting == Enemy Fighters: 3 At the start of every mission you enter dogfighting mode first. This is fairly simple and easy to beat. To turn, just bank to the left or right. It's wise to use your machine gun during dogfights, to save your missiles in case you need them later on. When it starts to get harder later on, you might need to use your missiles during a dogfight then, but generally it will not be required. Once you clear out the enemy fighters, your auto-pilot will engage and you will begin the ground attack. ==== The Ground Attack == Target Buildings: 5 The second half of every mission consists of the ground attack. This is where you bomb whatever targets they told you to bomb in the mission briefing. Avoid defenses as best you can, but don't attack those same defenses. Concentrate on destroying your objectives. You do have a LIMITED number of bombs, so if you destroy anything other than your target buildings, you will most likely get yourself stuck without anything powerful enough to do the job. Just keep that in mind. Don't be trigger happy. The best way to destroy a building is to wait for your white targeting reticle to move on top of the target. Drop one bomb when you are sure you'll hit it. For this mission, the Powder Keg, the enemy base is laid out so that the target buildings are the focal point of enemy defensive towers. This isn't really a problem due to the enemy's bad aim and low rate of fire. ==== PASSWORD: BFYZGGG _______________________________________________________________________________ [9!]Tub Buster[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][ ==== Mission Briefing: The general says something about "DON" and shows some pictures of some boats. ==== Dogfighting == Enemy Fighters: 3 They seem to like to get behind you this time around. ==== The Ground Attack == Target Ships: 5 Defensive turrets come in the form of land turrets as well as turrets on ships. They still don't have too well of aim, but they do fire in bursts of about two or three. Enemy fighters will harass you as well. Four target ships will be scattered around the island, while a lone one will be to the bottom right. ==== PASSWORD: BT!VBBB _______________________________________________________________________________ [10!]London Bridge[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][ ==== Mission Briefing: The number four and a picture of a brown bridge. ==== Dogfighting == Enemy Fighters: 3 Aggressive head on attacks. ==== The Ground Attack == Target Bridges: 4 The bridges appear to require two bombs before being destroyed, so you will have to pass it twice. The defenses here aren't very threatening, definately unique and different, but nothing to be alarmed about. ==== PASSWORD: BTXFYYY _______________________________________________________________________________ [11!]Camp Fire[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][ ==== Mission Briefing: "DON" along with some buildings, possibly hangars. ==== Dogfighting == Enemy Fighters: 3 They enjoy coming in from behind. ==== The Ground Attack == Target Buildings: 6 This is easy. Hardly any resistance. ==== PASSWORD: CWWXDDD ==== Upon beating all four levels... Professor NEWRON comes back for more. From what I can tell, The F-18 gets a new missile of some kind, the F-14 gains the ability to fire backwards, and the Harrier has suddenly gained the ability to be invisible! I mean, look, when he starts talking about the Harrier, his computer screen is blank! What else could it mean? _______________________________________________________________________________ [12!]Over A Barrel[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][ ==== Mission Briefing: "DON" again, with what appear to be grain storage buildings. ==== Dogfighting == Enemy Fighters: 3 Head on attacks. Not terribly aggressive, but they do fire a missile or two. You can avoid the missile by shooting it down. ==== The Ground Attack == Target Buildings: 12 The defensive turrets are faster this time around, but still not very good shots. Nine target buildings are bunched up together while three more are to the right. It takes time to destroy all of them, but is otherwise easy. ==== PASSWORD: CZGJK33 _______________________________________________________________________________ [13!]Dragonfly[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][ ==== Mission Briefing: Maybe the pilot's name is "DON"? I dunno. This time around we are targeting ships with guns on them. Targets that can shoot back. Interesting. ==== Dogfighting == Enemy Fighters: 3 This is fairly challenging. The enemy fighters are getting better at moving. ==== The Ground Attack == Target Ships: 9 The ships can take a couple of hits to destroy, depending on which weapon you are using. This may become your first real hurdle of a mission. Enemy patrol ships and fighters will harass you the entire time. Getting items that pop up is a must. ==== PASSWORD: CVBDFYY _______________________________________________________________________________ [14!]Killer Bees[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][ ==== Mission Briefing: You're targeting SCUD launchers. ==== Dogfighting == Enemy Fighters: 3 Typical dogfight, they will try to unbalance you with a couple of missiles though. ==== The Ground Attack == Target SCUD Launchers: 7 Fairly challenging. I suggest you pick the Harrier for this mission, as it seems to be better suited. Enemy fighters make use of missiles during this ground attack. Use lots of chaff to avoid the missiles. ==== PASSWORD: CVF12JJ _______________________________________________________________________________ [15!]Pot Shot[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] ==== Mission Briefing: Artillery pieces are your prey this mission. ==== Dogfighting == Enemy Fighters: 3 All three of these fighters really like using missiles. ==== The Ground Attack == Target Artillery: 10 Just don't get dinged up too much during the dogfight, and you should be okay. ==== PASSWORD: DDDGH11 ==== Upon beating all four levels... The Harrier is granted a new missile (the THUNDERBALL), the F-14 is granted invisibility, and the F-18 can now shoot backwards. Thanks Doctor Professor NEWRON! _______________________________________________________________________________ [16!]Dish It Out[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][ ==== Mission Briefing: DON would like us to take out some communication dishes. ==== Dogfighting == Enemy Fighters: 4 The enemy is really aggressive during this dogfight. They come at you quickly, and aren't shy with the missiles. ==== The Ground Attack == Communication Dishes: 8 Defenses will be firing at you constantly. Enemy fighters will be on you and will not get off. Take out the target dishes as quickly as possible. ==== PASSWORD: DH14NNN _______________________________________________________________________________ [17!]Smoke Trail[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][ ==== Mission Briefing: Anti-aircraft turrets are your targets today. ==== Dogfighting == Enemy Fighters: 4 Standard dogfight. ==== The Ground Attack == Target Turrets: 10 There's hardly any resistance at all. Fairly easy, the only real danger is running out of bombs or fuel. The green turrets take only one bomb to destroy, while the tan ones take two. ==== PASSWORD: DCWZJJJ _______________________________________________________________________________ [18!]Barracuda[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][ ==== Mission Briefing: I think those are aircraft carriers. They look like them; or they could be oil tankers. Considering all the enemy aircraft we've shot down, I wouldn't be surprised if they were aircraft carriers. ==== Dogfighting == Enemy Fighters: 4 The enemy fighters are good at staying alive. If you miss them at the first pass, you'll be fighting with them for a good while. ==== The Ground Attack == Aircraft Carriers/Oil Tankers: 5 Fighters and defenses will keep you busy, but because of the relatively close carriers, there shouldn't be any trouble. It takes three bombs to kill one, but you can take them down with one shot using the Sea Eagle. ==== PASSWORD: DCZK555 _______________________________________________________________________________ [19!]Power Down[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] ==== Mission Briefing: Take out those factories! They make things in those factories! Things, DON, things! ==== Dogfighting == Enemy Fighters: 4 Cool, there's different music! The enemy is fast and clever during this skirmish, so it would be prudent to take them out on the first pass. If they live, they will do everything they can to stop you. ==== The Ground Attack == Power Plants: 5 This place is loaded with ground defenses. Try to stay on the outside without going completely through them. These power plants are tough to take out. Use everything you got on them. You may need to switch to the Harrier if the F-18 doesn't work out. ==== PASSWORD: FYY2LLL ==== Upon beating all four levels... The Harrier can shoot backwards, the F-18 gets nothing, and the F-14 gets a blimp machine! Way to go Doctor NEWRON! You cat professor! _______________________________________________________________________________ [20!]Poison Ivy[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] ==== Mission Briefing: Get rid of those buildings! ==== Dogfighting == Enemy Fighters: 4 They're crafty. Don't get too far below them. They will have missiles up your butt the majority of the dogfight. This is the first dogfight where the graphics actually play a small part in making it difficult to win. ==== The Ground Attack == Crap Buildings: 8 Defenses are unyielding in this mission. Weave in and out of their fire as best you can. The area where four of the buildings are close together will prove to be a problem area if approached wrong. ==== PASSWORD: F2JNR99 _______________________________________________________________________________ [21!]Nuts & Bolts[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] ==== Mission Briefing: Factories are in your sights. Factories of evil. Doom. ==== Dogfighting == Enemy Fighters: 4 If you didn't hone your dogfighting skills in the last mission, you certainly will during this one. This will most likely be your first mission where you are forced to use missiles against the enemy instead of the machine gun. ==== The Ground Attack == Evil Doom Factories: 6 If you were damaged even slightly in the dogfight, you will find this to be a challenge. It's wise to stick to the outside of the enemy base and swoop in when the opportunity presents itself. ==== PASSWORD: FXDJM55 _______________________________________________________________________________ [22!]Inferno[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][ ==== Mission Briefing: The enemy is poisoning the minds of everyone with their evil radio stations! ==== Dogfighting == Enemy Fighters: 4 Luckily, this isn't nearly as hard as the last dogfight. Just eliminate them as quickly as they come, and you shouldn't have any major trouble. ==== The Ground Attack == Evil Radio Stations: 13 There's a multitude of these things to take out. If you have the F-14, that means you can afford to use up your bombs. Know why? Because you have the Ground Laser. Blow up those defenses! This can be a lengthy mission. ==== PASSWORD: FXH58QQ _______________________________________________________________________________ [23!]Titanic[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][ ==== Mission Briefing: The target for operation Titanic is enemy aircraft and boxes! Take 'em out! ==== Dogfighting == Enemy Fighters: 4 This is nothing. You should be able to handle this type of entangle by now. ==== The Ground Attack == Targets: 3 Lock and load! Rush the aircraft carrier and let loose with the bombs! The boxes take a bit more punishment to destroy than the aircraft do. ==== PASSWORD: GGGLP77 ==== Upon beating all four levels... Dr. Newron says something about a missile. Who knows. _______________________________________________________________________________ [24!]Misc. & Legal[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][ GetJesse can be found on the web at: blip.tv: http://getjesse.blip.tv/ YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/user/GetJesse GameFAQs: http://www.gamefaqs.com/features/recognition/11250.html If you'd like to make a gift or donation for my work, you can do so through PayPal.
