INTRODUCTION G0100 =============================================================================== Welcome to 'Top Striker' for the NES, released by Namco in 1992. Based on the anime "Moero! Top Striker" where as 13-year old boy called Hikaru Striker moves to Italy to learn how to play better and joins a team called Columbus with his friend Anna. You only control one player on your team - Hikaru - in your quest to beat the other teams to the title. This was a concept new to the genre at the time and Namco later adapted it into their 'Libero Grande' series. You can also find this kind of gameplay in modern games as a feature. The game is entirely in Japanese but quite easy to understand. The menus are described in this guide and most of the time is spent on playing an arcade football (soccer) game. Suggestions, comments or errors - tell me about it. Enjoy! =============================================================================== 02.) Mode) <-Story Mode スタート パスワード (Password) レーニングモード (Training Mode) 2P対戦モード (2P Competition Mode) Controls: ````````` o----------------------------------------------------------------o | Button | Hikaru | Teammate | |--------+-------------+-----------------------------------------| | A | Shoot | Shoot (near goal); Clear (far from goal)| | B | Pass | Pass | | D-Pad | Move | | | <- + A | Supershot | | | START | PAUSE / RESUME | o----------------------------------------------------------------o The longer you hold down the B button the stronger the pass will be. Note that the supershot is only available after you have learnt it and that the control will flip if you are playing from right to left as Player 2. You can only use it in the opponent's half. Rules: `````` Without going into general rules of the game, special to the game is that there is no off-side, pretty much no fouls (you cannot slide anyway, you just kind of trip when losing the ball), you cannot walk out of bounds with the ball or into your own goal. The game has two halves and by default a half is 5 minutes long. If the game is still a draw at full-time there will be two extra halves of 2 minutes each. If the game is still even after that the game is decided on penalties. The penalties are best ouf of 5 side each and then one each until somebody misses. Penalty Kicks: `````````````` The controls are super easy and straight forward. As kicker, select the area of the goal you want to aim for. Press A to shoot. As goalie, select the area of the goal you want to jump to and hold. Areas include: Left, Right, Up, Down and combinations, e.g. Left+Down is the bottom left corner: _____ |x x x| |x x| |x x x| Just shooting and holding Down is the same and will go right into the middle of the goal. You cannot miss the goal. The only way to fail to score is when the goalkeeper catches it. Teams: `````` Your team is with blue-haired guys. Don't ask... your own player has black hair. The opponent team has blond hair but their top striker has ginger hair. Strategy: ````````` If you have a supershot then you want to use it near the penalty area as much as you can. If not then you cannot really score on your own from my experience with the beginner stats. The goalie will always catch your shot. What you want to do instead is pass to another guy on your team in front of goal and let them do the scoring. After you gain stats scoring becomes a possibility. Best place is to shoot at an angle across the goal because the goalie is in the wrong corner. Do not wait at the front for your team mates to get the job done in defense. They are not very good at that and will lose the ball quickly. You often need to make runs towards the opponent goals for a good chance. For the best defense I have found to tell them to just punt it forward rather than short passes. You can actually outrun all of the players if you want to waste some time. =============================================================================== 03.) You are thrown right into a match you have to win. The opponent is very easy at this point. Doing nothing yourself will still result in a big win. Still easy and you could win by doing nothing. It is unlikely you win here on your first attempt. No worries, you are not supposed to finish the tournament so quickly and easily. When you lose you get a certain amount of "rounds" to spend on the map screen where you will end up next. It will take several amounts of map visits until your team is good enough to win the games and progress. A cheap tactic is to score a supershot early on (or 2 if you have spare) and then trickle down the time by dribbling around the field. You should not be caught by the other players and even if you do lose the ball at some point just win it back and do the same again... Teams will kick your butt if you are not ready - I know this from a 1-14 drubbing at the hands of Florence (though I did not touch the controller at all). From now on the same will repeat: get better teammates, perhaps buy some good gear, collect supershots (very, very important) and level up. An indicator for your level and when you should start winning the games: First game vs Again, new teammates are available to trade, new items, keep leveling up and you will beat the last three teams too. First game vs イギリス Level 9 Second game vs ドイツ Level 10 Third game vs イタリア Level 11 After you beat the last team you will see the end credits. Kick Dice (lit. Roll Dice but there is only one die) Password I think that is straightforward to understand. The number below the menu shows the amount of points you can spend on kicking the die and does not mean the number of moves. Moving back from where you came from adds 1 to your move allowance again so you cannot "waste" turns to land on a favorable spot. Pro tip: stay near junctions so you have more choices of where to go! You always start out at the stadium. The amount of turns you get depends on the chapter: chapter 1 up to 15, chapter 2 up to 23, chapter 3 up to 30. Mostly you get good events. Levels: ``````` After you learn enough SP you will level up. My estimate is as such: Level 2: 300SP Level 3: 700SP Level 4: 1200SP Level 5: 2000SP Level 6: 3000SP Level 7: 4000SP Level 8: 5000SP I believe each 1000SP gains another level after that but I have not confirmed. Status: ``````` The top left are Hikaru's stats (they all start with 1): スピード Speed キック Kick パス Pass ボレー Volley ドリブル Dribble カット Cut せいかくさ Accuracy はんのう Reaction Below the stats is the もちもの Item you currently possess. If you buy a new item it will replace the existing one. At the bottom left are the amounts of points for your アクィーラ special attack (Aku-ira). At the start of the game you have 0 which is why you could not do any special shot (you probably tried and thought the control section is lying). You actually use these special shots up during a game and go back down to 0 eventually. Therefore if you want to win a game you need to stock up enough. The right side are your teammates and their position. ちまん shows your CP (credit points). This is spent on the shop. The bottom right stat are you skill points (SP) (スキル). Shop: ````` These are items affecting Hikaru from what I see but the stats are not added in the status screen.
