===================================DISCLAIMER================================== I have decided not to allow websites other than Gamefaqs (www.gamefaqs.com), IGN (faqs.ign.com) & Gamespot (www.gamespot.com) to host my FAQs from now on. Please don't ask, because I will not grant permission. It's just that too many sites don't keep their version of my FAQ up to date which makes for a lot of hassle in my mailbox. So if anyone sees this FAQ on any site other than those mentioned above, please let me know and I will take care of the situation, thanks. Just to make things crystal clear for some people, this FAQ is not to appear anywhere at the following URLs: http://www.cheatcc.com http://www.cheatindex.com This document Copyright 2004,2017 Daniel Engel =============================================================================== X-Men FAQ November 30, 2017 Daniel (DEngel) Engel dan.engel.2017 [AT] gmail [DOT] com ############################################################################### (A) TABLE OF CONTENTS ############################################################################### Table of Contents (A) This Table of Contents (B) Controls (C) Characters (D) Items (E) Walkthrough - (E-01) Level 01: FutureCity Street Fight - (E-02) Level 02: Subterranean Confrontation - (E-03) Level 03: Search & Destroy The Robofactory - (E-04) Level 04: Battle Through A Living Starship - (E-05) Level 05: Magneto's Stage (F) Thanks (G) Experimental ############################################################################### (B) CONTROLS ############################################################################### A - Attack (Attacks differ for certain characters) B - Jumps (Jump differs for some characters) Select - Control the CPU player in 1-Player mode. You will be looking for these a lot. Invincibility - This item which looks like a stack of yellow cookies with a red middle makes you invulnerable for a few seconds. This is VERY helful for getting past some annoying doors and barriers that can otherwise kill you instantly. Bomb - This item looks like a lightning bolt, pick it up to instantly kill all the enemies on screen. Freeze - This item looks like a yellow 's', pick it up to stop the enemies from moving for a few seconds. Paralysis - This item looks like a magnet, if you pick it up you won't be able to move for a few seconds. AVOID THESE! ############################################################################### (E) WALKTHROUGH ############################################################################### Bricklayer J. Gastronomy Before you start any stage in the game play the practice area, get familiar with battling hordes of respawning enemies because that's 90% of the game right there. Once you find your skills good enough you can exit the practice by pressing A and start together. With the exception of the bosses, if you can kill one type of enemy you can kill them all so I won't be detailing how to beat every single variation of the same basic one-hit-to-kill enemy. In the real game you will be battling many enemies while also going from room to room. Some rooms have doors or walls that you can't get past, you need keys for that. The keys will always be in the same room or area of a room, the first enemy that you will there will drop the key. At the end of each stage is a boss, you must beat them to gain an item and then escape the stage within a time limit or you will die. Other than Nightcrawler, I suggest you keep as many of the long-range characters alive as possible. If you're playing the game by yourself (good luck convincing anyone else to play), then chances are you will hate your team mate. The CPU does a terrible job of keeping him alive so you will likely be glad when they die within the first 10 seconds of a stage and you can finally play properly. For this reason you should be careful with who you pick for each stage. Don't pick two long-distance characters because they are far better than the close-range characters and one of them will not survive the stage. Also as mentioned above, try to keep Nightcrawler alive for stage 3. In case you haven't got it through your head already here is a final word of warning, this game is bad. This game is very bad, it's also not a lot of fun, makes very little sense plotwise and can be pretty hard. However it's also very basic/repetitive in structure, so don't expect any mind-bending puzzles. The extent of your worries are staying alive and taking the right route to the stage boss. ############################################################################### (E-01) LEVEL 01: FUTURECITY STREET FIGHT ############################################################################### [My choice: YOU-Cyclops, CPU-Colossus] Head up from the start and avoid the shots of the turrets (you can't destroy them). Continue up past a couple of panels in the floor, DO NOT walk on the red metallic panels they will kill you. Continue up until you see a blue moving door, you can risk it and time your run through but there is another way. You can also shoot enemies until an invincibility item appears and use that to pass safely through. Either way head up past the door and right to what looks like a blue mine. Step on it to move to the next area. Avoid the enemies here as you go southwest to the next area. Kill the enemies until you get an invincibility item, then pass through the field above you. Go past the walls and kill enemies for another invincibility item and run past the door. Finally head northeast to reach the next area. Avoid the worms as you head southeast to the next area. Kill some enemies for an invincibility item, then run through the barrier above and continue north. Watch out for the red death-panels as you go through a door and approach some turrets. Avoid their shots as you continue up and don't take the warp on your left when you see it. Instead go to the very top and take the warp in the northeast corner to the next area. Avoid the worms as you enter the southwest warp to the next area. Shoot any of the enemies and pick up the key that gets dropped, then return to the previous area. Avoid the worms once again and take the northeast warp to the next area. Head down to that warp on the left that you avoided earlier and use it this time to enter the next area. Use the warp just northeast of you to enter the next area. Head straight up past four warps and a pair of turrets, then when you hit the wall head right and up and enter the warp above. Avoid the enemies as you go northeast through the warp to the next area. Sometimes you will get knocked back through the warp here before you can do anything, so just try to be quick and avoid that if possible. Kill any enemy and pick up the key that gets dropped, then return to the previous area. Go back through the warp at the very bottom to return to the red area. Work your way down through the door and past a pair of turrets, then continue down past some pipes. Use invincibility if you need it to get past the field below, then continue down and the door below you should open when you get near because you have the key. Continue down and try not to stay on the non-tile section of floor because you will slow down quite a bit while on it. Go down through another door that will open since you have the key and fight the stage boss. A time-limit will start and you must beat the boss and escape the stage in that time. Though neither task is all that difficult so you shouldn't worry. The boss can fire shots of his own so be ready for that, but otherwise just shoot him as often and rapidly as you can and he will die long before you do. Also if you fire shots horizontally while he is in the row above you he shouldn't be able to hit you. This is because your shots get fired from the top of your character and his get fired from about the middle. Now pick up the item that he drops and use the warp in the southwest corner to return to the very first area, then run down until the stage ends. You will then see this bizarre message: "Another success! Remember, you should always seek the advice of the leader of the X-men, Professor X, if you are not abel [yes the typo is there] to make it to the final mission." ############################################################################### (E-02) LEVEL 02: SUBTERRANEAN CONFRONTATION ############################################################################### [My choice: YOU-Cyclops, CPU-Wolverine] Avoid/kill enemies as you head up past the turrets, then take the right path and continue up. Once you reach the top, take the right staircase to enter the next area. Kill/avoid the enemies as you take the northwest stairs to the next area. Head up and avoid the lava and enemies as you enter the stairs near the lava. Kill/avoid more enemies as you head up for a bit and use the stairs to enter the next area. Go up and left through the gap in the wall, then kill/avoid enemies as you use the stairs below to enter the next area. Head down past the pair of turrets toward the lava below, then make sure you have most of your energy before dashing across the lava to the stairs on the other side. Kill enemies until you get invincibility, then run through the barrier below you. Continue down past the turret and lava, then use the stairs in the southeast corner. In this room you'll want to avoid the surface that looks like vines, it kills you fast. Otherwise head down and ignore the first staircase, then past the darts when they're not firing. Of the two staircases below you now, you want to use the one on the left to reach the next area. Work your way around to the stairs above you, beware of the turret and enemies on the way. Kill the enemies for a full-health item, then go through the barrier below (using invincibility if needed). Then continue down some more and a time-limit will start once again, which means you're fighting a boss. This boss fights at close range so you should have an easy time with him by using your projectiles. Once he is dead pick up the item and use the stairs at the bottom to return to the first area. Just like the previous stage run all the way down to the bottom to end the stage and receive another message. "Be prepared for your next challenge. You have reached a new level of power from which you must draw the needed skills to conquer the next mission." ############################################################################### (E-03) LEVEL 03: SEARCH & DESTROY THE ROBOFACTORY ############################################################################### [My choice: YOU-Nightcrawler, CPU-Cyclops] Remember that you are using Nightcrawler for this stage, so you don't have to go around objects or through barriers when safe, you can simply pass through the objects or go through the wall beside the barriers. Just MAKE SURE that you watch your energy levels if you decide to do this. Head up past the turrets and go through the barrier with or without invincibility, then continue up until you see some rails/grooves in the ground. You should notice a blue square among some grey tiles on your right, this is what the warps between areas look like for this stage. Ignore this one and continue up through this blue section. Weave through boxes and fight/avoid enemies until a brown section starts above you. Pass through the barrier here when safe or use invincibility, then continue up past some turrets and into another blue section. Work your way up some more and you should find a warp on your right before you reach a pair of barriers, use the warp to enter the next area. Head for the barrier on your left and pass up through it when safe, then use the warp in the northwest corner to enter the next area. Kill an enemy in this room and get the key it drops, then return to the previous area. Go down past the barrier again, then continue down into a red area. Pass through another barrier and a door below should open when you get close to it because of the key that you picked up earlier. Head down in this yellow area and get ready to fight the boss. Though he can use projectiles the battle shouldn't be all that tough, just get in close and rapidly attack him from the side, he moves really slow and you should be able to get many hits in at a time. After grabbing the item take the warp in the southwest corner to the next area. This area is the one that you'll be glad you're using nightcrawler for, otherwise you could very well get stuck forever and have to restart your game if using someone else. Go around the wall and head down, you should see the gap below you getting smaller and eventually closing up. Since you're using nightcrawler just walk through it and continue downwards. Repeat this for two more similar moving walls, but always make sure you have a good amount of energy before passing through them. At the very bottom you can use the warp in the southeast corner to return to the first area. Here you just run all the way down like you've done twice before to end the stage and receive this message. "You managed to break thru [yes they use thru] Juggernaut's screen of defenders. By pushing constantly toward your objective, you have beaten the enemy once again. Time to select a new challenge and test your fighting ability." ############################################################################### (E-04) LEVEL 04: BATTLE THROUGH A LIVING STARSHIP ############################################################################### [My choice: YOU-Iceman, CPU-Nightcrawler] Kill/avoid the enemies as you head upwards, then take either path and continue up. Use the warp above you to enter the next area. Kill/avoid more enemies as you head up, then take the left warp to the next area. Work your way up and pass through the first barrier when safe or while invincible, then do the same for another barrier above it. Continue up for a while until you start to see lava, kill an enemy here and pick up the key that gets dropped. Now you can return all the way down and use the warp to return to the previous area. Make a short trip through the warp on your right to reach the next area. Head up and avoid the trio of turrets, then pass through a barrier and avoid another turret. Ignore the warp above the turret and continue up, then take the right warp beyond the lava to reach the next area. Head up past the purple object on your right, then kill an enemy for a key. Once you pick it up you can head back down and return to the previous area. Go down past the lava and use the warp that you ignored earlier to reach the next area. Head left to the lave then go up until you reach a row of rock, a gap should open when you get close thanks to one of the keys that you got earlier. Continue up to another wall of rock that will open because of the second key that you collected. Work your way through this purple area and try to get full energy if possible because a boss is coming up at the end of the area. This boss mimics whatever character you're using and uses the same attacks, but every so often she will return to her normal form. When she is in that form she has no projectile attack. Basically attack her from the side in a row just below her and she won't be able to hit you, repeat until dead. Pick up the dropped item and use the warp above you to return to the first area, then run all the way down to exit the stage. "The last of White Queen's forces have been beaten. Congratulations on a successful mission. You can start a new challenge now." =========== Frustration =========== Once you have beaten all four stages in the game there doesn't seem to be anything left to do, as the game won't let you replay the stages, you can only play the practice stage. However while looking at the label on the front of the game you should notice this: "+B+Up together with Start". This is MEANT to be the code to reach the last stage but it was printed wrong (Nothing like locking the players out of the game that they paid for huh?). The real code to access the last stage is to hold Select+B+Up, then press Start. You enter this code after beating the other four stages and you must have the items from each of the four bosses otherwise the code won't work. If you meet all these requirements then you can highlight the practice stage in the menu and enter the code to reach the final stage. ############################################################################### (E-05) LEVEL 05: MAGNETO'S STAGE ############################################################################### You should only have one character left for this stage if you're playing alone, but if you managed to keep more than one alive it gives you more choice for the final stage. It would be ideal though to have a long range character for this stage because it makes the stage and the boss easier. This stage is a pretty big maze which has two paths to the boss, but it doesn't have any keys for you to collect so that makes it much shorter. Fight off the enemies and notice the small area on your right with warning stripes around it. Inside the area is a warp and you should take it to reach the next area. Go right to the next warp and kill any enemies that get in your way. Head left and walk on the red dotted area as you take the lower of the two warps. Work your way to the warp in the bottom right corner and enjoy the lack of enemies. You'll definitely want to kill some enemies for an invincibility item so that you can get past the barrier below, then you can take the warp on your left to the next area. Kill some more enemies here for another invincibility item, then run through the barrier below and take the warp on your right to the next area. Kill any enemies in your way as you take the bottom warp, then get ready for the boss battle. You'll want to go in and out of this warp until the boss appears in the upper area with you. Now quickly run right and go to the bottom of this horizontal area at the top, then rapidly fire shots left until the boss dies. This way he shouldn't hit you very much at all and all your shots should hit him with relative ease. The boss's shots are annoying though because not only do they damage you, but they can change your controls temporarily or cause you to stop moving. Once the boss is dead pick up the dropped item and work your way back to the start of the stage to see the terrible ending. "Congratulations!!! You have saved the world from Magneto and his evil mutants. Humanity is safe... For now." ############################################################################### (F) THANKS ############################################################################### Huge thanks go out to Andrew Rae for sending me the correct code to reach the last stage of the game. ############################################################################### (G) EXPERIMENTAL ############################################################################### For a little while now I've had a paypal link in all my FAQs at the very bottom here. Mainly as a small experiment since a few other FAQ authors have also had the same idea. I had a few people email me before I put this link in because they wanted to send money, so it's here for those people. For the record I've received about $87 (which works out to a bit more in Canadian lol) last I checked, so I've been getting cases of pop and making some excellent progress on a few FAQs. If you don't want to send money or can't then send me an email, it's nice to hear what people thought about my work and there's always room for improvement. My email address and paypal address for those that want to contribute are both dan.engel.2017 (AT) gmail (DOT) com Many thanks, and I hope you continue to use my work! ~Dan
