Street Heroes FAQ/Move List by Seth0708 o--------------o | Introduction | o--------------o Street Heroes is a one-on-one 2D fighting game published by Sachen for the Famicom in 1995. It was released only in Taiwan. I had tried playing this off and on for a couple of years, but without a move list I never really got into it. Recently Taoqi Qiezei (known as NusuttoSan on youtube) put up scans of the manual from the Gameboy Color version of the game so I decided to give it another go. Unfortunately not all the moves are the same between the two versions. There is also a disparity between how precise you have to be for the different characters. What's really weird is a lot of the time the difference is in a button press (A instead of B and vice-versa) or that you need to use the opposite directional input (down, down-left, left instead of down, down- right, right). This guide will break up the game by the fighters and have a brief rundown of some of the idiosyncrasies of each. It will also cover some other weird things in the section below. Also remember that all moves assume you are facing right so if you're facing left reverse the directional inputs if the direction is right or left. o----------o | Overview | o----------o Street Heroes is set up in a fairly standard manner. You have your basic home console options, such as difficulty and round time, and you have a single player and versus mode. Each of the fighters have their own stage and each has an ending sequence, in English no less, when you defeat the final boss. The character select screen is set up like this: ***************************************************************** * Rex * Malcolm * Roger * Daphne * Big Whale * Ned * Rock Tiger * ***************************************************************** The game seems to take place on some mishapen Australia, although some of the endings refer to a place called Aros which I assume is the island. Each fighter also has a stage, which is a nice touch given the hardware. Single-player will take you through the six standard opponents before sending you to face the boss, Dark Moon. Defeating Dark Moon will then send you to a mirror match, which if cleared will show you that character's ending sequence. The manual lists three moves for each fighter and I have seen the computer seemingly do all three of them, but the inputs are sometimes really precise and you won't be able to get them to work ninety-nine out of a hundred times. Other fights though seem to do their moves even if you only half try the input, so I'm not really sure what's going on here. There is a lot of flickering in this game. This seems to be common among the limited Famicom fighting game library, which is probably why there are not very many fighting games on the console. Sometimes when you boot the game up the title sequence will be an 8-bit version of the Samurai Shodown opening. When this happens the title menu will also be from that game. If I had to guess it would seem that Sachen built this game on the programming of one of those Samurai Shodown hacks for the Famicom. o-----------o | Big Whale | o-----------o Age: 42 Height: 165 cm Weight: 89 kg Measurements: B210, W175, H210 Blood Type: O Big Whale would seem to be the big bruiser of the roster. He's pretty slow and his moves don't work most of the time. At first I thought the manual was just plain wrong, but then I got one of them to work. The first and second move have a different button press in the manual, but they actually can be done as written below, it just doesn't seem to work right most of the time and becomes very frustrating very fast. Big Whale's stage is onboard his ship in the southwest. It is a Viking vessel replete with shields and his bearded crew. To the right side you can see a large whale poking it's head out of the water to watch the brawl. Moves: -> | \ -> + B v o | / <- + A v o | \ -> + A v o o--------o | Daphne | o--------o Age: 19 Height: 174 cm Weight: 55 kg Measurements: ? Blood Type: B Daphne is the lone female of the roster. She appears to have some sort of tribal theme in her stage, but he style of dress doesn't look anything like anyone else in her village. She might be based off Mai Shiranui as she fights with her flowing clothing that seems to light things on fire. Her third move is also next to impossible to perform, along with every move in this game that involves hitting forward, down, down-forward, and forward again. Daphne's stage is a small tribal village. There's some shirtless villagers cheering in front of grass huts. You can see a forest in the background that has green, brown, and blue leaves. Not sure what the blue trees are. -> \ | / <- + B o v o <- / | \ -> + A o v o -> | \ -> + A v o o---------o | Malcolm | o---------o Age: 25 Height: 180 cm Weight: 79 kg Measurements: B113, W83, H86 Blood Type: AB Malcolm seems to be a monk or something. He has a more Eastern theme, perhaps to contrast with Roger's clear Templar inspiration. I cannot get his first move to work at all, while the second two seem to only work intermittently. Malcolm's stage features a checkered floor. Just into the background this gives way to grass behind a series of pillars. Further back is a domed temple and some small trees. -> | \ -> + A v o | \ -> + B v o | / <- + B v o o-----o | Ned | o-----o Age: 23 Height: 176 cm Weight: 72 kg Measurements: B114, W82, H86 Blood Type: AB Ned is one of two sword wielders in Street Heroes. Ned has a more Western style sword, while Rex has a more samurai style sword. His moves actually seemed to work alright for the most part except the second one which wants to be the third move all the time. He wears armor over his whole body except his head and thighs, which seems like an odd choice. Ned's stage is a bridge over a river basin. A large waterfall pours into the river in the center of the stage, while smaller waterfall is off to the side. A handful of rocks jut out of the surface of the water behind the bridge. | / <- + B v o -> | \ -> + A v o | \ -> + A v o o-----o | Rex | o-----o Age: 20 Height: 180 cm Weight: 79 kg Measurements: B112, W81, H85 Blood Type: O Rex is one of two sword wielders in Street Heroes. Ned has a more Western style sword, while Rex has a more samurai style sword. Out of all the characters, Rex's moves are the most reliable; I can get them to work about a quarter of the time. All his button presses are reversed from the manual, which might just be that his basic attacks might be reversed in the Gameboy Color version. Rex's stage is a statue park. The ground and surrounding walls are all grey in color. Statues of knights line the walls. A large pathway cuts down the center into the background, flanked by statues and ending at a single large statue in the distance. -> | \ -> + B v o | / <- + A v o | \ -> + B v o o------------o | Rock Tiger | o------------o Age: 27 Height: 196 cm Weight: 92 kg Measurements: B112, W54, H70 Blood Type: B Rock Tiger is an Egyptian themed claw fighter. I guess they were trying to knock two archtypes out with one stone. For the life of me I cannot get any of his moves to work. I've seen the computer do them, so they must exist, but none of the standard fighting directional combinations seem to do anything. If anyone can make them work, drop me a line and I'll credit you in this guide. Rock Tiger's stage is a desert at either dawn or sunset. There's a broken statue head lying at a forty-five degree angle in the background with two vultures sitting atop it, presumably waiting to feast on the loser of the match. | / <- + B v o -> | \ -> + A v o | \ -> + A v o o-------o | Roger | o-------o Age: 28 Height: 179 cm Weight: 85 kg Measurements: B125, W85, H90 Blood Type: O Roger is inspired by the Knights Templar. He wears Medieval chain mail and his tabard is emblazoned with a cross. His moves are the most wildly different from the manual; the manual lists them as all half-circle moves, while in-game they're charge moves. The first two work semi- reliably, while the third one almost never seems to work. Roger's stage seems to take place in a large clock tower. The floor is all grey tiles, while the background is consumed by gears. The gears are in motion and looks kinda neat, although it is all really choppy. <- (hold) -> + B | (hold) ^ + B v | | (hold) ^ + A v | o-----------o | Dark Moon | o-----------o Age: ? Height: ? Weight: ? Measurements: ? Blood Type: ? Defeating your six opponents will send you to fight Dark Moon. A short cinematic will play and then you'll face the boss. Dark Moon is a cloaked demon who wields a scythe. The manual seems to list two moves for him, although the only move I've ever seen him do is one where he leaps off the top of the screen and rains his scythe down at you before landing. Dark Moon's stage is atop a castle wall at night. A crescent moon hangs ominously in the background. A green gargoyle stands watch to the right, sometimes looking back at the fight. Defeating Dark Moon will start another cinematic. Dark Moon will use the last of his power to summon a fighter to battle you. This fighter is a copy of your character, initiating a mirror match. Interestingly this fight will take place in an unique stage. The stage is a purple chaotic swirling mess, which is somewhat disorienting. Defeating your copy in this mirror match will end the game, showing a small cinematic for your character with some text. This is in English, so you can try to puzzle through the character backgrounds based on what happens in their endings. o------------o | Copyrights | o------------o Samurai Shodown is (c) SNK Street Heroes is (c) Sachen
