INTRODUCTION G0100 ============================================================================== Welcome to 'Strategist' for the NES, a card game released by Sachen in . It is also includes on Sachen's 'Super Cartridge Ver 5'. Suggestions, comments or errors - email me about it. Enjoy! ============================================================================== 02.) OVERVIEW & CONTROLS G0200 ============================================================================== There are two card games including in this pack. Check their individual sections for information on how to play the games. From the main screen, switch between "Poker Racing" and "The Battle of Poker" with the SELECT button. Both can be played against the CPU or another human player. Enter your name after making your choice. There are multiple countries and avatars to pick, but they only differ in appearance. ============================================================================== 03.) POKER RACING G0300 ============================================================================== Controls: ````````` A = Select B = Cancel SELECT = Switch between Continue and Restart How to play: ```````````` The aim of the game is to have raced as far as you can within the amount of cards available in the deck. The deck has 108 cards. Each player takes turns playing a card. There are four kinds of cards. Green, blue, red and purple. Green are distance cards, they allow you to travel as far as it says on them. For example if you place a "100 KM" card then your total score is increased. Red cards inflict a negative status on the opponent's car, such as running out of fuel or maybe a road accident. In this case the driver cannot drive fast, or not at all. You may inflict more than one status at once, providing they fill the requirements. For instance, the other car may be stopped by the police and still receive a flat tire. Blue cards in turn, negate these effects on your own car. There are also purple cards, which are played automatically when they are drawn. They will protect your from certain events, in other words you are immune to that red card. As you draw a purple card you also draw another one straight away. There is only one kind for each purple card. If you cannot play card, then you need to discard one on the pile to the left. The game ends when the deck has run out of cards. The player with the farthest distance wins the game. The total score may be taken to the next game is you choose to continue. This way you can beat the high sores on display. Otherwise restart from 0 to balance the handicap. Strategy: ````````` Whereas distance cards are great to have, you always need to have a few blue ones on hand or may be stuck. If you cannot move, green cards are useless. Play red cards as soon as you can. If you need to discard cards, get rid of low green ones first. There are most likely other cards you can get rid of first though. Blue cards are useless if you have a purple immunity card already, so those should not be in your inventory. If you have more than one, then think about throwing one of them away. Some immunity cards are better than others. Check the list for example, as some negate two status. If the other player is immune on the other hand, then there is also no point in keeping a red card for that matter. Similarly, if a player has been dealt the police or overturned car, they will not travel at high speeds anymore. Therefore, crash. edge and more overturn cards are useless at this point. When the police pulls you over you may still travel at 40KM, 60KM and 90KM. When the car is overturned, you may only travel at 40KM. Try to play these cards against the opponent to severely slow down his movements. Cards: `````` 40KM = Travel 40 kilometers. 60KM = Travel 60 kilometers. 90KM = Travel 90 kilometers. 100KM = Travel 100 kilometers. 120KM = Travel 120 kilometers. ___________________________________________________________________________ | Red | Blue | Purple | |-------------------------+------------------------+------------------------| | Edge (90/100/120KM) | Fixed Car | Thumbs Up | | Crash (100/120KM) | Fixed Car | Thumbs Up | | Roadworks | Re-Route | Straight Road | | Sleep | Awake | Radio Tunes | | Flat Tires | New Tires | Super Tires | | Out of Gas | Gas Canister | Gas Truck | | Car Turned (100/120KM) | - | - | | Police (100/120KM) | - | - | ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Note: Some items only work when the opponent drives at a certain speed as noted in ()s. ============================================================================== 04.) THE BATTLE OF POKER G0400 ============================================================================== Controls: ````````` A = Select B = Cancel SELECT = Switch between Continue and Restart How to play: ```````````` The aim of the game is to have advanced as far as you can within the amount of cards available in the deck. The deck has 108 cards. Each player takes turns playing a card. There are five kinds of cards. Green, blue, black, red and immunity cards. Blue are distance cards, they allow you to advance as far as it says on them. For example if you place a "4KM" card then your total score is increased by 4. You first need to start moving with a green 'A' card. It does not actually move the troops, but it is like an attack order for the next round. Red cards inflict a negative status on the opponent's army, such as an airstrike. They will hinder the advance of the tank. You may inflict more than one status at once. Black cards in turn, negate these effects on your own army. For example, play the 'tunnel' card to get rid of the fence that was dealt to you. The sun card is actually green, but works like a black card. It could be a graphically error by the developers. There are also immunity cards, which are played automatically when they are drawn. They will protect your from certain events, in other words you are immune to that red card. Check the card table for more info. As you draw an immunity card you also draw another card straight away. There is only one kind of each status. If you cannot play card, then you need to discard one on the pile to the left. Choose wisely - there are some strategies below. The game ends when the deck has run out of cards. The player with the farthest distance wins the game. The total score may be taken to the next game is you choose to continue. This way you can beat the high sores on display. Otherwise restart from 0 to balance the handicap. Strategy: ````````` Whereas distance cards are great to have, you always need to have a few black ones on hand or may be stuck. If you cannot move, blue cards are useless. Play red cards as soon as you can. If you need to discard cards, get rid of low blue ones first. There are most likely other cards you can get rid of first though. Your priority is to stop the advances by the opponent. Playing a red card will require the other player to restart with an 'A' card, then continue the advances. This means at least 2 turns to get back on track, including the one the negate the effect of the red card. If you can advance by 4 or 5KM instead then you may want to do that too. Weigh your options carefully. Black cards are useless if you have a purple immunity card for this event already, so those are some to dump first. If you have more than one, then think about throwing one of them away. Some immunity cards are better than others. Check the list for example, as some negate two status. If the other player is immune on the other hand, then there is also no point in keeping a red card for that matter. The 'A' cards are necessary to have, but more than one is not really a must. If you are already advancing then keep one extra perhaps, but not more. Cards: `````` A = Required to start an advance. 1KM = Advance 1 kilometer. 2KM = Advance 2 kilometers. 3KM = Advance 3 kilometers. 4KM = Advance 4 kilometers. 5KM = Advance 5 kilometers. ___________________________________________________________________________ | Red | Black | Immunity | |-------------------------+------------------------+------------------------| | Airstrike | Wall | Tank | | Fence | Tunnel | Tank | | Storm | Sun | Helmet | | Destroyed Bridge | Fixed Bridge | Engineer (Shovel) | | Rocket Malfunction | Rocket Fix | Rocket Precision | | Mine | Anti-Mine | Mine Embargo | | Surrounded | + Reinforcements | Flank Protection | ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Note: You may still play the 'A' card during a storm, when the storm is gone the advances can be played straight away. Think of it as a strategic move while you await sun. If, however, another negative status is inflicted at the same time, the 'A' status is gone. ============================================================================== YY.) REVIEW GYY00 ============================================================================== Gameplay: 6/10 I actually enjoyed playing this a lot. It is a little basic, they could have added more cards, or game modes. The two modes are practically the same with a different theme. Still a great short game to play for 10 minutes or so. Graphics: 6/10 Sachen put in a good effort. There are many small animation sequences when an event happens. The card all look good, although sometimes it is hard to make out what they represent. Sound: 4/10 I had the music on for at least 20 minutes before I decided it was too much. It just doesn't change, and even though it is not really horrible it will get on your nerves sooner or later. Overall: 5/10 Great little game you can even play on your lunch break. ============================================================================== ZZ.)
