What's New -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Version 1.0 (3/28/06): The first complete version of this FAQ. ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 2. Introduction -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= SonSon is a side-scrolling platformer game which originated from the arcade. Basically, a bunch of people have been kidnapped by a weird creature floating in a cloud, and it is up to you as SonSon (or TonTon if you're the second player) to rescue them. The screen constantly scrolls to the right, which leaves you to move in all four directions through the area, blasting enemies and picking up food items for points. Every now and then the scrolling will stop and you'll have a short battle scene with many enemies at once, but it's nothing too major. Apart from the inevitable slowdown you may experience when a lot is going on, this game is rather addictive and worth a playthrough if you want to try something fun and new (well, not new, but you know). ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 3. Controls -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Start: Pause/resume the game Select: Moves cursor on the title screen Control Pad: Moves the character, jumps up/down ledges (press Up/Down) A/B: Shoot a bullet straight ahead (up to 3 on the screen at once) ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 4. Overview -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= =========== Extra Lives =========== As you would expect, extra lives are rewarded based on the amount of points you have accumulated. As such, you gain an extra life after passing the 20000 and 80000 point thresholds, then every 100000 points from that point onward (180000, 280000, etc.). ========== Game Clear ========== In the final area (designated by the rock with the number 1), collect the floating staff and you will have completed the game! From here, you can start a new game from the beginning. The difference in this continued play is that there are more enemies, but there are also more opportunities to earn lots of points! ================= Mini-Boss Battles ================= After every few "areas", designated by the decreasing rock numbers, you will encounter an area where the music changes. Often times there will be dragonflies that will appear at this point, too. Up ahead you will see Skull Blocks on each level, and behind them a doorway where Bombers come out (one per level). In order to progress, you need to shoot through the blocks and the bombs, and kill the Bombers. It is not necessary to kill every enemy on the screen, but it does help to rack up your points. When the music changes, the "mini-boss" section is over. ========= POW Block ========= Every so often you will come across a flashing "Pow" icon. If you pass over it, all the enemies currently on the screen will disappear. They all will be replaced by large food items, most frequently Large Carrots and Noodle Boxes. Later in the game they may also turn into Eggs as well. Try to time your usage of this for when a new wave of enemies first appears on the screen to the far right. That way you can take full advantage of its enemy-clearing ability for a brief period. ======= Scoring ======= Food Items ---------- Item Points ---- ------ Radish 10 White Flower 10 Cherry 20 Shish Kebab 20 Carrot 30 Red Flower 30 Mushroom 40 Strawberry 40 Potato 50 Tomato 50 Blue Pepper 60 Lemon 60 Blueberry 70 Watermelon 70 White Carrot 80 Yellow Berry 90 Banana 100 Blue Plum 100 Special Items ------------- Note: Special items refer to those which appear in front of wooden signs. The dirt lumps appear at random out of the ground, so keep an eye out for them. It should also be noted that the point values for these special items appear to increase in value late in the game, based on my own observations. Contact Information -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= As of this version, the file contains all the information I know to date. If it is a work in progress, give me time before bombarding me with emails about things being missing. All I ask is that you READ THE FAQ before emailing me, since that's what it's here for! Don't waste my time (and yours) by asking me for information obviously covered in the guide. If it's in reference to a side quest or item, chances are they can be found in another section besides the walkthrough, so check the appendices as well. If you have any questions, comments, or things to add that are not already in this FAQ, feel free to email me. I usually do post submissions, credit given of course, so long as I feel they are relevant to the game in question. My email address is: dbmfaqs(at)gmail.com.
