Skate or Die is based on one of today's most popular extreme sports, skateboarding. You take the role of a young teenager trying to be the best skater around. You get to compete in such events as the high jump, freestyle, and even a race. Skate or Die is also one of the more popular NES titles. Many players hold the game in high regard as one of the greatest skateboarding titles ever made, even compared to some games today. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- .::CONTROLS::. Control Pad - Used to move character and the Skate Or Die cursor. Select Button - Not used. Start Button - Pauses Game A Button - Used to choose an option B Button - Only used to erase letters when "signing-in." Advanced controls vary from event to event. They will be included below, in each events section. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- .::EVENTS::. >>SIGN IN The sign in sheet is where you place your name into the game. It will record your times, and high scores. You can have up to 8 different names(also used for multiplayer), and each of those names can be up to 8 characters in length. >>GO COMPETE This is where you compete in the regular game versus the computer, or other human players. You can choose just one event, or choose "COMPETE ALL" which will let you compete in all the events. >>GO PRACTICE This allows you to practice each of the events. This is great for getting used to the game, and not having to worry about high scores. But you will have competition in some events such as the JAM and the JOUST. They play the same as the regular game. >>HIGH SCORES To reach the high scores, click the trophy in the SKATE SHOP. There are high scores for: Ramp Freestyle(points) Downhill Race(points) Ramp Highjump(height) Downhill Jam(points) >>REGULAR/GOOFY FOOT Switching from Regular to Goofy Foot changes the direction you turn when pushing the control pad. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- .::SKATE SHOP::. They are very similar for regular. The main difference is which direction speeds you up, and which slows you down. >>FREESTYLE In this event, you pull off your best tricks and combos to score the most points. You get 10 passes(going up the right side of the ramp). -(Controls)- Control Pad - Used to do tricks. A Button - Used to "pump" your character to get speed. -(Moves)- Spins Pump character, then press in the direction your going when you reach the top of the ramp. When you are spinning, press in the opposite direction to stop and land properly. If not, you will crash. Grinds Similar to the spins, but you need to have less speed. Just press the direction your going, and your character will grind. Press up or down, and he will grind along the lip of the ramp for more points. Or just hold it, and he will stay there. The longer, the more points. But don't hold it to long, or else he will fall. Handplant Press the DOWN direction, and the A button at the same time at the top of the ramp. Hold it for more points, but not to long, or you will fall. Eggplant Press and hold the opposite direction in which your going and press the A button. -(Tips)- Try varying your moves. The longer you hold a move, the more points you get for it. Stay away from the dip in the ramp on the left side. Going over it will result in you crashing. Stay away from the very top, and very bottom of the ramp. If you go near them, your likely to crash. -(Map)- ____ ____ /\ /\ \ \___Lip-->\ _/\ <--Dip \_ | | |\___Bottom___/| >>HIGH JUMP A simple event. Duck - DOWN direction with A button. -(Points)- Glass - 100 points Large Bottle - 200 points Police Car - 1300 points -(Tips)- Try to finish quickly, as you get more points for speed. Hit as many bottles as you can along the way. You get either 100, or 200 points for them! To get the Police Car points, you must jump on the hood of the police car at the end of the race. Do not attempt to go through the backyard area unless your experienced. Stay away from sewers, water, and other hazards. Jump over the black and yellow speed bumps. They slow you down. Before you reach the two ledges, you can go through one of the buildings. Be careful though, it is easy to hit the wall there. Punch or kick your opponent if you have to. The objective is to knock your opponent down with the bopper, and score the most points. The problem is, you only get the bopper for about 5 seconds. Once you knock an opponent off, he gets the bopper. Dodge him for 5 seconds, and you get the bopper back! -(Controls)- Control Pad - Used to move your character and to grind. A Button - Used near your opponent to knock them off. -(Tips)- Grind along the edge of the pool to waste time, and don't run the risk of getting hit as much. Keep an eye on your opponent, stay near the top or the bottom of the pool. Stear clear of them at all cost! Press the A button near an opponent when you have the bopper, to knock them off their board. -(Map)- ______________ / \ / \ | | | | P1 P2/CPU | | | | | | | | \ / \______________/ >>COMPETE ALL This is simply all the events.
