INTRODUCTION G0100 =============================================================================== Welcome to 'Mottomo Abunai Deka' for the NES, released by Toei Animation in 1990. It as only released in Japan. There is a TV show called the same name that ran in Japan. I have not seen it myself, but I take it the game is based on that. It is related to the more famous show 'Abunai Deka' (Dangerous Cops) which ran from 1986 to 1987. Suggestions, comments or errors - tell me about it. Enjoy! =============================================================================== 02.) BASICS G0200 =============================================================================== The basic premise of the game is very similar to Namco's 'Rolling Thunder' in that you simply have to run through the level from left to right and shoot enemies that come along, picking up power-ups as you can. There is no time limit, no score, all you have to accomplish is blasting your path through the levels before your life hits 0, and once all your lifes are depleted it is game over. The main menu gives you three choices. The top two are for either one of the police detectives, they play the same. The lowest option is for playing with both cops as 2 human players. The game is almost the same, but certain screen limitations apply as you have to stick close together. Display: ```````` The display has your name (1P or 2P) depending who you picked at the start of the game. Underneath your name is a health bar. Each time you get hurt you lose some of it, but you can replenish is by picking up Hearts. When you are hurt you will flash for a couple of seconds, in that time you are immune to any more damage. Health is not replenished when you start the next stage. If you want to cheat, set value 06E1 at 10 to never lose any health. The third icon is your currently held item. This means your weapon, such as the default pistol or maybe hand grenades. Controls: ````````` The D-Pad walks left and right. You can return back left if you want to, for example in case you forgot to pick up a power-up you desperately need. Keep in mind that you will also be subject to more enemies spawning from all sides the longer you keep sticking around. Press DOWN to crouch. When there are stairs you can go up and down them using the UP and DOWN direction respectively. B is to shoot whatever weapon is currently held. A is for jumping. The jump is very awkward (like in 'Rolling Thunder') and you are prone to be hit while in the air. Use it with care. If you press DOWN along with jumping you will leap off a ledge to the lower area. To pause the game, press START. Once paused you can cycle through your weapons with the A button. When you are ready to continue, resume with START. Items: `````` Just walk into them to pick it up automatically. *Heart Replenish your health a little. *Machine Gun Adds 10 rounds to your total. *Grenade One extra grenaded added to your total. Note that the default gun has unlimited ammo. Enemies: ```````` Thug ```` Your average criminal, equipped with a pistol. They come in different colors and like to run around the areas real fast. Watch out for their hurtful jumping and sliding attacks as well. Later these guys will have hand grenades and eventually machine guns. Sniper `````` These guys hide in or on buildings and shoot down on the floor. You often cannot touch them because they are so high up, but their line of fire is easy to spot and they can only shoot at 45 degree angles. Thug Boss ````````` There is only one of these, on Stage 3. It is basically a tougher version of a regular thug and he can take more hits before going down. Flame Fhrower Man ````````````````` A mini-boss on Stages 6, 7 and 8 as well as 12. Kind of tough if you ask me. Rock ```` Al right, more like a hazard than an enemy. They only appear in Stage 6 and 8, and they deal very high damage when the drop down so watch out. =============================================================================== 03.) WALKTHROUGH G0300 =============================================================================== Because of the simple nature of the game, a lot of time is simply spent on running left to right while blasting enemies and trying not to get killed. Yet there are some things to note: Stage 1: -------- As this is the first stage, get used to the game's control and mechanics. There are only a few obstacles to jump. You only have to reach the right side of the alley/street to complete the level. Stage 2: -------- This stage introduces you to the Snipers. If you see one reachable by a jump you could attempt to shoot him, but it will expose you from all the other enemies that will harm you while you jump up and take a long time to descend again. Simply watch out for their easy-to-spot line of fire and avoid it, there are hardly ever more than 2 on the screen at the same time. When you reach the police headquarters you are done with the level. Stage 3: -------- Leaving where you left off, it is now night time. When you reach the end, a boss in green will appear. Shoot him full of lead (around half a dozen of hits should be enough) and he will spill his guts, literally. Stage 4: -------- All right so now you know where to go. Ignore the 'Danger' signs. Some barrels will make progress a little bit harder but nothing new here. At the end of the airfield you will meet up with the military. Stage 5: -------- This is different than previous stages - a shooting gallery!! Aim at the target and shoot it. Try for the red ring if you can. After around 20 of those you are already finished. Stage 6: -------- You are now on a road, or on the side of it. Watch out for the rocks that are high up as they deal large amounts of damage. The enemies also like to throw grenades now. Soon you will run into a boss with a large flame thrower. Avoid it and use the machine gun to quickly make him go away. Soon after the level ends already Stage 7: -------- Down in the sewers now. After a short time you will see the Flame Thrower again but this time you could hide on the platforms if you are quick enough. He also seems to know the sewers better than we do because he can leave at the left screen side and reappear on the right...interesting! As before, just a few more steps and you have reached the ladder to get out of here. Stage 8: -------- This is the other side of the road, and even shorter than previous levels. At the end you will meet Flamethrower man one final time and this time he is going down for good. Stage 9: -------- Run forward a few screens and then start climbing up the building. The path winds around a bit, going up and down but is always obvious. The jumping can be annoying as usual. Stage 10: -------- Driving, sometime different again. Press A to accelerate and B to break. The D- Pad moves the car left and right as you might have guessed. You can crash as often as you like but the timer only lasts 99 seconds. A 'perfect' race will give you something around 25 seconds to spare, so consider how bad you may do before running out. It is not really too hard drive at max speed as often as you can. Stage 11: -------- The shooting range from before still fresh in your memory, use the practice to shoot the corrupt cop in his office. He will pop up at different locations so be quick to move the cursor. B shoots if you forgot already. This is much harder than the mode you tried earlier. Stage 12: -------- The bad guys come equipped with machine guns now. Walk all the way right and take the stairs up. Take the next flight as well and then descend a little to the left. Ascend all the stairs as you see and when you reach the top, another flight goes down on the right side. The next few should be obvious now, and when you reach the top again walk left to an open door. Boss: Flame Thrower Guy ``````````````````````` Ok so that guy wasn't dead, has a twin brother, or is just also as badass. This time around you are on enemy territory and thugs will crawl in from the left once in a while. There is also a fancy desk blocking your way. When he's defeated you automatically move on to... Boss: THE Boss `````````````` He must be the guy behind all this, as you are fighting in his office. He is also hiding behind a desk and has thugs supporting him by running around all over the place. The guy likes to lob grenades over the desk, too. When he goes down you are treated to a quite long (at least for this game) event and the credits roll. Congrats on beating this one (without cheating?)! FIN =============================================================================== YY.)
