IV: Credits and Such Part I: Introduction ======================================================================================= 1. Story ======================================================================================= A long, long time ago a woodcutter's family lived in a small woods. One day, inside their house, the grandmother was talking to her grandchildren. "Long, long ago there was an evil dragon that was terrifying the people. A wizard came from the north country, captured the dragon, and put it deep in the ground. See the picture on the wall? The wizard is your grandfather." Just as the grandmother pointed at the picture, their pet dog "Pochi" came in with a shiny, pointed object. It was a scale from the dragon! Mother and Father both felt the dragon was about to revive. So they started to get ready to go to the dungeon. Their mission was to destroy it. The kids cried, "There's no way that you can ever beat the dragon!" Father smiled and said, "Don't worry, there is a DragonSlayer." "DragonSlayer" is a magical sword - the only weapon that can destroy the dra- gon. However, it is protected by four hidden crowns. The kids said, "We can help you find the crowns if it's OK with you." "Sure, if we can all help each other, we will be able to defeat the dragon," the Father replied. Where are the four crowns? Can the Drasle family destroy the dragon? Now the adventure begins. That's basically the story straight from the instruction manual, if I remember correctly, and it sums up the game fairly well. Just remember what to do; go down into the dungeon, use each character to find a specific crown, fight the boss after finding the crown, and return home (you'll be warped there automatically after defeating the boss). After you find all 4 crowns, you must search for the Dragon Slayer in order to defeat the main boss of the game. ======================================================================================= 2. Characters ======================================================================================= The game basically revolves around 5 characters, but there are two others that help you. Here are the biographies of ALL of the characters in the game, even the two that don't go down in the dungeon. Xemn Drasle: This is the father of the Drasle family, and also the most powerful character in the game. He's the one that wheres mostly green, has black hair and a black beard and mustache, and throws axes as his weapon. He's a fairly average character, but the fact that he can't jump very high really narrows down the different ways he can go in the dungeon. His special items are the Glove, Armor, and the Power Boots. Meyna Drasle: This is the mother of the Drasle family. She's probably my favorite character in the game, and above average in most catagories. She's the one that wears a pink cloak, and hurls pink puff balls as her weapon. I used her most in the entire game, mostly because of her unique special items. She has no downfalls, once you have all of her special items. Her special items are the Wings, Key Stick, and the Rod. Roas Drasle: This is the boy of the Drasle family, and probably the most unused character in the game (until near the end). He's the one on the left on the game screen, and turns mostly blue and light blue when you choose him. His weapons are swords that don't cause very much damage. I wouldn't advise using him at the start of the game. His special items are the Jump Shoes, Dragon Slayer, Armor, and he is the only character that can equip the crowns. Lyll Drasle: This is the daughter of the Drasle family, and is (like Meyna) one of my two preferred characters. The's the one near the bottom that turns mostly red when you choose her, and looks like she has feathers by her ears (like an American Indian). She shoots red fireballs that don't cause very much damage at all, but her jumping height really makes up for it. She jumps higher than anyone else in the game. Her special items are the Power Boots, Jump Shoes, and the Mattock. Pochi Drasle: This is the family pet, which is another character that you'll probably only use once in the game. He is laying on the ground at the character selection screen and turns pinkish when you choose him (he kind of looks like a pink dinosaur). His method of attacking is shooting small energy balls at a VERY small range. He can't jump very high, either. The good thing about him is that he doesn't take damage from enemies (except bosses). I only used him to get a few regular items and one crown. He doesn't have any special items. Jiela Drasle: This is the grandmother of the Drasle Family. Unlike the other characters, she doesn't leave the house and explore the dungeon in search of items. She stays at the house and records your question (she gives you your password when you return to the house). For the longest time, I thought that she was a guy. It looked like she has a beard and a cane (like Noah). She is the second character from the character all the way to the right. Douel Drasle: This is the grandfather of the Drasle Family. Like Jiela, he never leaves the house. He stays at the house and listens to the story that you tell him that Jiela told you (you input the password into him). He's the character all the way to the right of the character selection screen, and looks a bit like an old bartender. Keela: This is the boss of the game. She was terrorizing neably villages, therefore the villagers cage her in a square mount of blocks. You can see her when you get the the main "turning point" part of the dungeon, in the very middle of the screen. To be able to fight her, you need to use Roas equipped with the Dragon Slayer, and then walk under her stone cage. ======================================================================================= 3. Gameplay ======================================================================================= In my opinion, the gameplay in Legacy of the Wizard was great. The controls were near perfect, but it did take me quite a while to figure out how to use certain special items (such as Xemn's Glove, and Meyna's Rod). The game is usually fast paced, with lots of enemies moving everywhere all the time. The game is obviously very up-beat. Here's what each of the controls do: "Up": Of course, this makes you walk to the right. Also, while holding the A (jump) button while using items such as Xemn's Glove, Meyna's Rod, and Lyll's Mattock, it makes the item 'work.' For instance, if you have Meyna's Rod equipped, you hold down the jump button and the "Up" direction on the directional pad in order to make block shoot to the right. Understand? I hope you do. "Down": Same thing applies to this, except this makes you face down, or fly downwards while using Meyna's Wings. Also, you can hold the jump button and press the directional pad in this direction in order to shoot or push a block in this direction. "Left": Same thing applies to this, again, except it makes you walk to the right, or push or shoot a block to the left while holding the jump button and pressing this direction on the directional pad. "Right": Ahem, the same thing as the three above controls, except you walk to the right while holding this down, or move or shoot a block to the right while holding this button on the directional pad while holding the jump button. "Start": This lets you take a look at all of the main items you have, and which ones you can use and cannot use (you cannot use ones whose numbers are dark blue). "Select": When you press this button, the gameplay freezes and you're able to go select one of the three items you chose either coming out of the house or staying at an inn. "B": This makes you shoot your character's 'weapon.' That basically sums it up. "A": This makes you jump. Again, that sums it up. Note - You can shoot your weapon, move or shoot blocks in more than one direction... Kind of. For example, hold "Up" and "Left", and then press the A to shoot your weapon diagonally in the direction... The same thing works for moving or pushing rocks. You can press "Up" and "Right," "Up" and "Left,", "Down" and "Right," or "Down" and "Left" to shoot in four different diagonal directions. You should understand that... ======================================================================================= 4. Items ======================================================================================= First, I'll start off with the items that you find after you kill enemies. Whenever an enemy dies, they will leave an item, no matter what. Here are the different types of items that enemies leave behind: Bread (Food): This will fill up 5 health points. You'll usually only get these when you're low on health. In certain treasure chests, you'll find a discolored bread. This will fill up your health by about 40, I believe. Orange Potion: This fills up your magic. Like the Bread, you usually only get this when you're low on magic. Again, you'll find discolored Orange Potions in treasure chests, and they'll fill up about 40 magic points. Key: Keys are probably the second most important things to find, standing next to Money Bags. All treasure chests and 'doors' use keys. Never leave one behind. Now and then, a treasure chest will contain a discolored key. This will give you 20 keys. Money Bag: This will give you 2 gold pieces. You'll get these any time, but you'll get them MOST when you're low on money, or you just bought something from a shop or stayed at an inn. Discolored ones in treasure chests give you about 40 gold pieces. Deadly Potions: The potions are red, with a skull as the top of it. If you get one of these, you LOSE 5 health points. Stay away from these. Fortunatley, there are no discolored ones... I have, however, heard rumors about finding a green on in a treasure chest, and it kills you if you get it. Scroll: These are my favorite items, and you don't get these very much. They make your speed increase, therefore making your jumping DISTANCE farther. If there is any gap (I don't remember any important ones) that you need to get across, try to kill a lot of enemies nearby and get one of these to make you able to jump across it. In the lucky occasion of getting another one of these while you already have one, it'll make you go even FASTER. Pretty good, in my opinion. I only found ONE discolored scroll in the game... It makes you go as fast as having two scrolls, and lasts a bit longer than usual. Ring: This allows you to become invisible from enemies and spikes for a limited amount of time. Like the scroll, you don't get these very often. I never really NEEDED one of these in order to get past part of the dungeon, and I've never found a discolored on in a treasure chests. They're not a bad find, nonetheless. ============================================================================================ Now, these next items are items that you'll either find in treasure chests, or in shops. You can see all of the by either staying at the inn, coming out of the house, or pressing "Start" any time while playing the game. They are as follows: ======================================================================================= Armor: While wearing this, enemies will die if you run into them. Bad thing is, your magic is constantly going down while you're wearing this, plus, whenever you run into an enemy, sometimes it takes away some of your life before they die. You can either buy this in shops for a tidy some of money, or find this in about three different treasures chests in the dungeon. Crowns: You'll get these roughly at the corner of each dungeon. Four of the characters (Xemn, Meyna, Lyll, and Pochi) will be able to get these. When you get a crown, you'll be taken to a boss. After you defeat him, you'll be warped back home. After you have all four of them, Roas can equip one of them and warp around the dungeons using the Pictures of Celina found here and there. Crystal Ball: When you use this, you'll be instantly warped back home. There is one of these in each direction on the dungeon, and ones just here and there throughout the dungeon. Usually, when you see these in shops, they are a LOT of money. Dragon Slayer: This item can only be obtained by warping through different pictures while using Roas with a crown equipped. This sword is needed to pierce Keela's thick scales. Elixer: So you won't be confused, this is the potion with the wings on it. You can find these in a few places in the dungeon, or buy them at shops for usually around 50 gold pieces. When you have one of these equipped and you run out of life, you'll be brought back to life with 99% health. So, if you feel you're going to die, and you have one of these on hand, equip it quickly. Firewand: This item can be either bought in a few shops or found in one place in the dungeon. It looks like a wand with an orange stane at the end of it, with two 'petals' on each side. When it is used, it lets you shoot your weapon twice as far as usual. On the down side, it takes away two magic points instead of one. Glove: This is Xemn's ideal item, allowing him to move blocks around in any direction while using it. Also, unlike other characters' special items, it uses no magic points. It can either be found really close to the surface of the dungeon (go down to the first screen of the dungeon, and then go right a bunch of screens until you reach a wall, and then go down one screen), or bought in two different shops for about 60-80 gold pieces. Jump Shoes: This item is the one that looks like a shoe with a spring on it. Only Meyna, Lyll, and Roas can equip it, and it takes one magic point when used. It allows them to jump twice as high as they usually do. It can be either found deep in Meyna's corner of the dungeon, or can be bought somewhere in Lyll's part of the dungeon for about 80 gold pieces. It takes one magic point for each time it is used. Key Wand: Probably one of the most important items in the game. It looks like a rod with a cookie at the end of it, with a thread going around it... It can either be bought in a secret shop not very far in the dungeon for 60 gold pieces, in a few shops deep in the dungeon for about 80 gold pieces, or can be found in Xemn's corner of the dungeon. Only Meyna can use this. Whenever you have this equipped, you can open doors (NOT treasure chests, though) without using keys. Bad thing is, it uses magic instead... But, don't worry, in Meyna's part of the dungeon, there are inns EVERYWHERE. Magic Bottle: This is the orange bottle of potion right next to the Elixer. It's practically the same as the Elixer, except it refills your magic meter to 99% whenever you run out, and have this equipped. Luckily, unlike the Elixer, you don't have to have it equipped at the exact time that you run out... Just select it AFTER you run out to refill. This can be found in a few places in the dungeon, or can be bought in several shops for an average of 40 gold pieces. Mattock: Don't get confused, this is simply the white pick axe that only Lyll can equip. It can be bought in two shops in the dungeon for a high price, or can be found in Xemn's corner of the dungeon. When Lyll uses it, she can destory blocks with it while running into the blocks while holding the jump button. For each block it destroys, it take one magic point. Power Boots: This is the boot with a start on it. Whenever you jump and hit an enemy with this one diagonally, it kills them without taking any damage from you. Only Lyll and Xemn can equip it, I believe. It can be bought for about 60 gold pieces in a few shops, or can be found in about 3 places in the dungeon, ranging from Lyll's corner to Xemn's corner. Power Knuckle: This is the "boxing glove" looking item... I used to think that it was either an upside-down saxophone or some sort of shell, but now I see what it is. Anyway, it can either be bought in one shop in the dungeon for about 70 gold pieces, or can be found in Pochi's part of the dungeon. When equipped, it multiplies your attack power. I think ever character except Roas and Pochi can equip it. It takes two magic points when it is used. Rod: I thought that this thing was a pitch fork for a while... It can be bought in Lyll's corner of the dungeon for about 80 gold pieces, or can be found easily in a treasure chest not very far in the dungeon (towards Xemn's corner, sort of). It is one of Meyna's main items. When she uses it, it shoots a block at very high speeds towards whichever direction she's facing while holding the jump button with this item equipped. Shield: Of course, this is the orange shield with a dragon on it. I have NO IDEA where this found in the dungeon, and I have NEVER found it... I do know that it repels the boss' energy balls, but I have never been able to use it against a boss. If anyone knows where this item is, PLEASE tell me. Every character can use it, I believe. Wings: This is Meyna's ultimate special weapon. When it is equipped, she is able to walk ANYWHERE in the air (she can't go through walls, of course), but your magic slowly goes down while you have it equipped. You MUST use this item along with the Rod and the Key Wand to get Meyna's Crown in the dungeon. It can be found in Lyll's corner of the dungeon, or bought in about 3 other shops around the dungeon for an average of 90 gold pieces. ======================================================================================== 5: Other Tips and Hints ======================================================================================== Well, without knowing these few tips and hints, you'll probably get nowhere in the dungeon... Well, anyway, here they go. 1. Of course, ALWAYS pick up keys and money bags whenever you see them. They're a must for getting items throughout the dungeon. You already knew that, though. 2. Use enemies to your own benefit. Even though they usually take minor damage off of you, you can use them as 'moving platforms'. I can think of three places off of the top of my head in which you MUST use this technique. They can carry you places and make you jump higher, getting to those impossible ledges you'll see here and there. 3. Never pass up a shop. Even if you don't have any money, go into shops to see what they have. If they have an item that you've never seen anywhere else before, best thing to do is write down which section of the dungeon this is in (or remember it), and then return to it to buy the item once you have enough money. 4. When you see spikes one the ground, DON'T WORRY. There's a trick that you can use to walk over spikes without getting harmed at all. Hold UP and whichever direction you're going in while you're walking on spikes, and you won't take any damage. Also, it'll make your character look kinda funny... 5. Shoot treasure chests before you touch them. There are a certain race of enemies in the dungeon that look exactly like treasure chests. Also, they take off quite a bit of energy from you (they take off 10 whole health points from Meyna) when you touch them. Another bad thing about them is that they cannot be killed unless you touch them... They have to somewhat be 'activated.' Thing is, there are at least two places in the dungeon tha t have these guys with a REAL treasure chest hidden behind them... Like, they're covering it up, and the only way that you'll be able to get the treasure chest behind them is to touch them. 6. In Meyna's part of the dungeon, you'll encounter VERY strong invisible (nearly invisible, that is) enemies that will take up to 15 health points from you when you touch them. Like the treasure chests, they must be 'activated' in order to be killed. One good thing is that you can see the base of them against the background (the base is a maroon color). Neither this enemy or the treasure chest mimicing enemy MOVE. The treasure chest enemy does, however, move a LOT after you touch him. Part II: Getting Around in the Dungeon ======================================================================================= 1. Which Way To Go ======================================================================================= Believe it or not, each character has their own unique way to go in the dungeon. I'll try to include some of the major items in each of the character's directions in the dungeon. I'll be going through Legacy of the Wizard again pretty soon, so if I find something that I missed (or if YOU find something that I missed, e-mail), I'll add it in my new version. If I say that there is a "needed" item nearby, this means that you should try to get it. If I say that there's a "special item" nearby, get it at all costs (i'm not talking about in shops, I'm talking about in the dungeon). Anyway, here it goes, in the best order that I could find to get through Legacy of the Wizard quickest. Pochi Drasle: This should be the first character that you take down in the dungeon. First of, when you first enter the dungeon, go all the way to the right about 3 or 4 screens (or until you hit an end in which you cannot go any further) and then go down one screen. You should find the Glove (a special item) in a treasure chest in the level that you're in now. Anyway, after getting the glove, go back to the "beginning" of the dungeon (not back outside). While getting the glove, you should have gotten a discolored money bag in a treasure chest which should fill up all of your money (unless you bought something with it, which you shouldn't, YET). While you're at the beginning of the dungeon, go down one screen, and then down another. If you want to, you could walk to the right in the second screen that you were in in order to get a Crystal Ball (a needed item). Anyway, if you get the Crystal Ball, go back down one screen. If you're already on that screen (you didn't get the Crystal Ball), go right two screens, and then fall down. You should land near an inn. If you really need to, stay at the inn. Anyway, don't move just yet. You should see a lot of rocks near the inn. Look up and to the left, and you should see a little ledge that you can stand on if you can jump high enough. Remember this, there's a hidden shop in there that sells the Power Boots and the Key Wand for a good price. Anyway, from the screen with the numerous blocks and the inn, go down on screen. This is your main turning point screen. You'll know that you're here by seeing Keela trapped inside of her stone cage in the very middle of the room. Alright, go all the way to the left of the room. You should see two latters going up and going down, but you can't get to them since there's a stone in the way. The latter to the north is Xemn's latter. When it's his turn to explore the dungeon, this is the direction that he goes, and this is the latter that he first takes. The one on the bottom is Meyna's latter, the one that she takes when it's her turn to explore the dungeon. Now, go all the way to the right of the screen. It looks practically the same, except there is no block in the way. There is a latter that goes all the way up, and then a latter going down, and a small latter going up. The small latter going up is the latter that Lyll takes when it's her turn to get the crown. The bottom latter is Pochi's latter. Take Pochi's latter down. From here on, I can't really guide you through each and every level. There's no way of getting confused, since all of the levels go directly into another one (there are no major 'crossroad' type parts), so just make your way through. Remember to kill as many enemies as possible for gold and keys, and cehck each and every shop just so you'll know what kind of items they sell in this part of the dungeon. Eventually, you'll run into a room that has a bunch of blue bricks, a bunch of latters, and what appears to be a bunch of treasure chests. There are three ways to get into this room. There is the north way (the wrong way, there's a block that doesn't allow you to get any further in the level), and two east ways. Either of the two east ways are the right way. All of the treasure chests in this room (except the one of the far right side) are treasure chest enemies, but since you're Pochi, you cannot be harmed by them. Touch all the blocks to see which one disappears, and find the paths that lead you to the right side of the room. There are also latters that you'll need to grab on to get to the other side. You'll eventually get the to treasure chest that carries the crown. Get the crown, and fight the incredibly easy boss. Just stand really close to Tarantunes, and fire away with Pochi's weapon. He'll die pretty soon, and you'll be warped back home. If you feel unsecure about fighting him, bring along an Elixer to heal yourself if you run out of life. If you get to a part in Pochi's part of the dungeon that seems like a dead end, remember to touch EVERYTHING, since this game is full of secret passages and such. Pochi's crown is the easiest crown to obtain, so I really hope that this wasn't too hard to understand. Lyll Drasle: Even though Pochi's route seemed pretty long, it really wasn't. Most of the things that I was talking about were just the basics that you needed to know about getting around in the dungeon, and which directions to remember for the other family members' routes. Anyway, first off, use Xemn (with the Glove) and go towards his part of the dungeon. Not very far into his corner of the dungeon, you should find Lyll's Mattock. After finding it, go back home and choose Lyll. Now, go down to the main area (with Keela in a stone cage, of course) and take Lyll's route. Just keep going, and going, and use inns whenever necessary. Remember to look in each and every shop, and get every single treasure chest that you see. In all honesty, this is what I did... After finding Lyll's Mattock, I used Lyll and went back to her part of the dungeon. I went as far as I could go to the northeast, but stopped on the screen in which I could see the Dragon Slayer. I dropped down several screens, and eventually came upon a treasure chest that contained Meyna's Wings. I got the wings, and returned back home. I chose Meyna (when I chose Xemn and went and got the Mattock, I also got Meyna's Rod which wasn't only 2 screens above the latter that leads to Xemn's part of the dungeon. Anyway, I used Meyna equipped with her Rod and her Wings, and went towards Lyll's part of the dungeon (northeast). I noticed that Lyll's section was basically split into two parts... The part below the area containing the Dragon Slayer, and teh part above it. The part below it could be explored by either Lyll or Meyna, and since Lyll isn't very strong, I went down there with Meyna. I don't remember all of the items that I found down there, but I do remember finding at least one Elixer and the Armor. When I was down there, I realized that there were lots of loose blocks that'd disappear as soon as I touched them. So, when you're down there, touch all blocks that seem suspicious. Also, if you see a pathway that you can't get to in a certain level, drop down (most of the time, you're either dropping down or going up in this part) and see if you can still see it. Usually, you'll find a loose block or something that will allow you to get to that pathway. After finding all of the necessary and good items down there, I finally went back home for the last time in Lyll's adventure, chose her, and finally headed out to seek her crown. I brang along about 90 gold pieces (this may take a while to accumulate... You WILL need it, however.), Lyll's Mattock, an Elixer, and a Magic Bottle. I eventually got to the part in Lyll's section of the dungeon that contained the Dragon Slayer, and went UP instead od DOWN. I used the Mattock to bash all of the necessary white and light blue rocks, stayed in inns whenever I needed to, and checked all shops. I finally found a shop that sold the Jump Shoes... For a whopping 80 gold pieces. Luckily, I had about 70 gold pieces, so it didn't take too long to get 10 more. I bought the Jump Shoes, and had the Mattock, Jump Shoes, and Magic Bottle in my inventory. I eventually made my way to a part that had a really high ledge that I needed to jump to. If you see more than one ledge like this, this one has a dark soldier-like enemy walking back and fourth on it, and there is one of Celina's pictures above the ledge. Anyway, I equipped the Jump Shoes, and jumped up there onto the ledge. There was an inn directly (or almost, at least) below this ledge, and I had already accumulated 20 gold pieces, so I stayed at it to refill my life and such. And this time, I re-equipped my Elixer, so now I had the Mattock, Jump Shoes, and an Elixer. I continued left into the next screen. The screen directly below this next screen has Lyll's crown in it. This is probably the most frustrating part of the dungeon I ever had to do... But you shouldn't have too many problems. First off, the screen that has Lyll's crown is a very familiar level that you've seen before near the entrance into the dungeon, which contained a pillar, a lion-like enemy, and a treasure chest sitting in pillar, all enclosed by stones. Whenever you try to jump to get the crown, a block on the right side of the pillar blocks you from getting it... Meaning, you have to get it from the other side. This is where the hard part starts, or at least did for me. The screen directly above this has a lot of those white rocks that can be crushed by the Mattock, all of the rocks laying horizontally in two rows. I got into the second row, and crushed all of the rocks all the way to the left. After this, I fell down onto a bridge of green rocks. Many of these rocks, however, broke when you tried to walk over them... Luckily, when you crush the rocks as I said above, you'll land on a green stone that's safe. Now, this is tricky part. On that same rock that you're standing on (when you're going from the top row of white rocks to the green rock, HOLD left, so that you'll walk off, not fall straight down onto a rock that will break), I went as far as I could to the left (on that same rock, which is tiny...), and then jumped at the last second before falling down... If you're lucky, Lyll will land on a rock that's safe (your head hits the ceiling, not allowing you to jump very far), and you just walk to the left a bit more, fall down, and get the crown. You should have the Mattock, Jump Shoes, and an Elixer when fighting Erebone. This boss is a lich-type enemy that runs back and fourth, shooting energy balls at you. If you see energy balls coming at you, don't shoot them all with Lyll's weapon... This will just waist her much-needed magic. just dodge them, or run the other way until they disappear. Also, try to have near-full magic and health when entering this battle, you'll need as much of both as possible. Anyway, just keep nailing this sucker until he dies... It took me a couple of tries, so don't get angry if you don't beat him on the first try. Another good thng is that Lyll's part of the dungeon isn't very hard to get through, it'll only take you about 10 minutes to get from the house back to the boss. Lyll's section of the dungeon is the easiest to get through, in my opinion. Xemn Drasle: This part of the dungeon took me a heck of a long time to get through, but is pretty straight forward... This is the actual first part of the dungeon in which you must use puzzle skill, mostly pushing blocks with the Glove in certain positions in order to get to higher elevations and such. Anyway, choose Xemn along with his Glove, a Life Potion, and the Power Boots (if you want to, it's not necessary, though). Now, journey on into Xemn's part of the dungeon (and listen to the excellent background music along the way). I really can't tell you each and every way to go... It's mostly linear, like all other parts of the dungeon... Skill will come into play a lot, mostly pushing blocks into positions, and even "riding" a block across a 'gap' in a certain place... Again, I can't lead you all the way through Xemn's part. Plus, I really don't want to play the game for you... Have some fun with it. Anyway, remember (as always) to go into all shops that you see, and check out every treasure chest that you see. The only major item that you obtain in this part of the dungeon is the Key Stick, a MUCH needed item for Meyna's exploration of the dungeon. I forgot exactly where it was (it was kinda tricky to get, I believe), so I can't lead you directly to it... I'll try to find it again, and add it in the next version of this walkthrough. But like I said, there's really not much to say about this part of the dungeon... There's a lot of rock moving, loose block finding, and week enemy killing. Kill everything that you see (if you understand what I mean), get all treasure chests, and make it to the crown. The crown is located in a very odd place... This is kind of hard to explain, but I'll do my best. You'll eventually arive to a few levels that seem more out in the open than other levels that you've seen. When you get to the level, you'll notice that there are a lot of spikes, and inn above (sorta...) where you come in, and a lot of skeleton-like enemies with swords. This is also kind of tricky, so read carefully. Go to the right of this level, go up, and then make your way all the way back to the left to the inn. Stay in the inn if you need to (you really should... After staying in it, have the Glove, and two Elixers equipped), and then go up the latter that you see left of you up TWO levels (the level directly up is useless, at this point). Now, make your way all the way to the right through the white blocks (that CANNOT be moved... Really wouldn't want them to be, anyway) and get to the other side of this level. On the 'ground' of this level, you'll see tanish blocks now and then... If you step on one of these, you'll fall through to the level directly under you (the one that I said wasn't needed yet). Anyway, like I was saying, get to the right side of this level, and look at the LAST tan block in the floor... Don't fall through this one, whatever you do. Find the one DIRECTLY to the left of this one (the second from the tan block all the way to the right of the screen), and fall through it. You should fall onto a platform, with many other platforms nearby. You'll see some of those caterpillar-like enemies clinging to the ceiling and falling to you when you're underneath them. Make sure you don't fall... A few platforms to the left, you'll see some white blocks, and a treasure chest atop a platform really close to the ceiling of thise level. I can't tell you exactly what to do here, it'd take too long. Push the blocks that you see to make a 'staircase' that leads up to the next platforms of blocks. Get on of the blocks on the next platform, and then 'ride' the block to the platform that is holding the treasure chest. The treasure chest contains Xemn's crown. The boss that you fight after getting this crown is harder than the other two bosses that you fight before it. His name is Archwinger, and looks like a flying bat/vampyric being with wings. Just keep bolting him with axes, and always have an Elixer equipped. He should be dead if you're hitting direct-on. Then, you'll be warped back to the house, and you can get your password and be a happy person. Meyna Drasle: This is my favorite part of the game. Get Meyna, have her Rod, Wings, and a Magic Bottle equipped, have a bunch of money (over 50 gold pieces),and get a lot of keys (about 30). Go to the level above the 'main' level (with Keela in her stone cage), and use the mother's wings to fly up to that ledge to the right that I told you to remember near the beginning of this walkthrough. Use her Rod to shoot one of the blocks to the side, and go into the hidden shop. They sell the Key Stick her for a good price (60 gold pieces, it's either 90 or 80 everywhere else). Buy it if you don't already have it. Now, go to her part of the dungeon. This first part took me a long time to figure out... After you get past it, it's basically smooth sailing until you get to the boss (crown). Anyway, when you first unter her part of the dungeon, you'll be in a strange looking situation... You see a latter (that you're on, of course), and a smaller latter to your right... Don't worry about the other one... Just keep going down the latter. When you get to the next level, the latter won't be there anymore, causing you to fall all the way down. Now, go down again, and then go all the way to the right og this level. Then go down twice. The two times that you go down, you should see familiar levels (some of the right parts of Xemn's levels). Then, you'll get into another part of the dungeon (you'll know because the music changes). Most of the blocks are orange, and you can either go left or right. Go to the left until you see a part that has three ways to go... A top, a middle, and a bottom. Unless you want to waste your time getting a Crystal Ball or something, go through the bottom passage. Go through, and then make your way to a latter than goes down. The levels is pretty plain. After going down the latter, go to the left, go down the latter, and then go all the way to the right (you'll see a shop and an inn). After doing this, go all the way back to the left of this level. Now, look at the blocks on the ground. Count about 4 or 5 blocks on the ground from the left walk, and then try to 'walk down' through the blocks. The block will disappear, and you'll fall through to the 'real' part of Meyna's corner of the dungeon. From now on, you'll usually have to use a combination of Meyna's Rod, her Wings, and the Key Stick to get anywhere in this part. There are inns and life/magic refills everywhere in treasure chests, so don't worry about running out of magic (don't use too much, though). Keep making yout way to the right. WATCH OUT FOR INVISIBLE ENEMIES. These enemies take off as much as 15 health points, so beware. You can see their bases, though; they're maroon. Don't try to kill them if you see them, just try to avoid them. Anyway, keep going, usuing Meyna's items, refilling at inns, and checking out shops. You'll notice some parts that have a lot of 'doors' that require a LOT of keys (I counted over 56 doors on the level with her crown), in this part, just equip the Key Stick. If you start running low on magic, unequip it, and use keys. You'll find one of the rare discolored keys in this part of the dungeon, so you'll probably have about 60 keys to use. Just keep going, and make your way through everything. This really doesn't take much skill, since it's totally linear. Try to stay at every other inn that you see. You'll eventually come to rooms in which you'll have to shoot a block with Meyna's Rod, and then use the Key Stick or keys to get through a passage. Do just that. Keep going, and going, and whenever you seem to be stuck, touch all of the blocks to see if there are any secret passages. In the room with Meyna's crown, you'll notice that there are a lot of key doors. Just keep going through it, and then get to the inn. Stay at the inn, and try to equip her Wings, and either two Elixers, or one Elixer and the Shield (which I was never able to find). You'll get to the treasure chest with her crown easily while getting through to key doors. This boss is the hardest one in the game, even harder than Keela herself. His name is Rockgaea, and takes a lot of health from you (10 - 20 health points from his energy balls, and 50 health points if you touch him). You'll notice that there's a little cave-like place where he's jumping at. Just keep shooting at him until he gets himself stuck in that cave, and he'll eventually die. Then, you'll be warped back home, and the real fun begins. Roas Drasle: Equip Roas with a Crown, the Jump Shoes, and an Elixer. Now, go around to all of the pictures of Princess Celina that you've ever seen, and make your way through all of them until you get the Dragon Slayer (it's not too hard, just go from one to the other, and just keep doing it). After getting the Dragon Slayer, return home and get your password and everything. Now, equip the Dragon Slayer and two Elixers. Go down to Keela's picture, and stand directly below her cage. Then, the last battle begins. It's really not that hard... You can either figure out her patterns, or get under the "F" in "Life" and just start destroying her with Roas' swords. After this, the credits scroll, and you'll feel good about beating the game... Heh. ======================================================================================= 2. Other Hints in the Dungeon ======================================================================================= 1. When you need keys or money, use Meyna, go down two screens from the entrance to the dungeon, and kill all of the enemies repeatedly. This'll give you more money than keys, but it's still good. 2. Don't use the Power Knuckle and the Fire Rod very often (don't use them against bosses). They take away 2 magic points for each shot, and waste your magic. The Power Knuckle is better than the Fire Rod... The Fire Rod is useless. The only time that you might want to use the Power Knuckle is against Erebone, Lyll's boss. 3. Like I already said, shoot treasure chests before you touch them to make sure that they're not mimicing enemies. 4. Don't spend too long looking for one specific item in a treasure chest. If you can't find it in a treasure chest, but you see it in a shop, just rack up a lot of money using Meyna, and then go buy it. That's a lot easier and quicker. 5. If you can, go into other character's parts of the dungeon once you have everyone's special items. Sometime, there are places in other family members' parts that can only be accessable by using another character with their unique item. 6. The block "riding" technique that I was talking about Xemn takes some practice. This is what you do... Stand on a block in an open area (doesn't have to be very open). Equip Xemn with the Glove, and stand on top of the rock. Now, face to the right on the rock, and jump and hold the jump button. If you did it correctly, the block will move right; the way that you're facing. Whichever way that you're facing when you tough the block holding the jump button, that's the way that the block moves. Part III: FAQs ======================================================================================= 1. Items ======================================================================================= Q: What items are each character able to use? A: Unfortunatley, I can't make a chart as of yet that shows which item each character can use. I will, hopefully, have made a chart by the time I make my next version of this walkthrough. Q. Every item that can be bought can be found, right? A: To tell you the truth, I don't really know. Of course, the Crowns can't be bought, and the Dragon Slayer cannot be bought, but until I find the Shield, I can't really say (it may be in a shop, or in a treasure chest; possibly even both). Q. Someone told me that they were able to glitch the game and was able to use every single item with every character. Is this true? A: Well, it's halfway true. There is a Game Genie Code that allows every character to equip most of the major items (everything except the Crowns and the Dragon Slayer), but the code is very buggy. It glitched the game out itself now and then, and it really isn't useful (until they fix the code... When they do, you might be able to go through the dungeon with other family members, making the replay value go up). Q. I can't find the Shield... Is it in the game? A: I've never found it neither, but I have a few friends on the Internet that have said that they've found it. I'm not sure... But, whenever I find it, I'll be sure to add it to this Walkthrough/FAQ. ======================================================================================= 2.. Characters ======================================================================================= Q. Is there any way that Roas can be used to get a Crown? A: There MIGHT be a way, but I've never tried it. If you go through Pochi's part of the dungeon with a lot of Elixers, you might be able to get his Crown with Roas. Give it a shot... I probably will pretty soon. Q. Someone showed me a screenshot of Dragon Slayer V, and it looked almost the same, but there were more family members around the table. Have you seen this? A: I don't know if Dragon Slayer V even exists. If it does, then there is a good possibility that it's true. It's really too bad no other Legacy of th Wizard/Dragon Slayer game came out in America. It's my favorite series, and always will be. Q. My friend told me that he got Xemn's Crown with Meyna. Is this true? A: No, it's impossible. There is a part of the dungeon that Xemn explores in which you must 'ride' blocks, and a part the has a vertical line of rocks. You cannot get through the second part using Meyna's Rod. You can, however, get through the 'riding' part, since you can fly with her Wings. ======================================================================================= 3. Crowns ======================================================================================= Q. Is there anyway to mix and match family members with their Crowns? A: Like mentioned above, there might be a way to get Pochi's Crown with Roas. That's the only way that it could be mix and matchable. You CAN get the crowns in practically any order, though. Q. Can you get a Crown, and then use a Crystal Ball while fighting the boss to get back home without having to fight him? A: No, the Crystal Ball will not function when you try to use it during a boss battle. Q. Can you warp through the Pictures of Celina without having all four Crowns? A: No, you MUST have all of the Crowns in order to be able to warp through the pictures using Roas. ======================================================================================= 4. Princess Celina ======================================================================================= Q. Can you warp through the Pictures of Celina without having all four Crowns? A. No, you MUST have all of the Crowns in order to be able to warp through the pictures using Roas. Q. Who is Princess Celina? A: To tell you the truth, I know nothing of her past. Heh. Actually, she is the princess of the castle that you see in the distance if you come out of the house and go all the way to the left. That's really all that I know. ======================================================================================= 5. Other Hints ======================================================================================== 1. All Inventory Password: C4TB RSSH 6RXC 1TJH CUTK 3NFT YWMC WJVU 2. Sound Test: Controller 2: HOLD up-left + A + B, Controller 1: HOLD down-right + select and then press START. You'll hear a sound when it worked. To change tunes, click on the portrait. There's also a lame 16 of every item code, which is (in my opinion) useless. Part IV: Credits and Such ======================================================================================== Credits ======================================================================================== I made this walkthrough/FAQ without help from anyone... I just started on it, seeing as Legacy of the Wizard is my favorite game, and not many other people have attempted walkthroughs and FAQS for it. Of course, the main credits go to Brøderbund Software and Falcom Software for releasing this excellent game. It took me about an hour and a half of typing to make it, so I didn't really put too much effort in it. I didn't really have the skill and/or time to make any text-maps and such for it, but I probably will in the future. Since this is only v1.0, I'm going to be adding as much stuff as I can whenever possible, and I will hopefully complete a FULL walkthrough (including more details in the walkthrough section, another part that has maps and such (maybe a chart that shows each shop, what they sell, and how much their items are). ======================================================================================= Other Stuff ======================================================================================= First off, I'd like to talk about the last name of the family of this game... In the Japanese version of the game (Dragon Slayer IV), their last name is Drasle. On the American version of the game, their last name is Warzen... But, if you look in the American instruction manual, it says "the Drasle family." So, I didn't really know what to put... I just put Drasle. Until I find anymore ifnormation about it, I guess it'll stay like that... Feel free to e-mail me with suggestions, questions, comments, mistakes with anything that I've made on this Walkthrough/FAQ, or anything else... I first played Legacy of the Wizard in 1989, after seeing it at a video rental shop. The shop really didn't have many NES games, so I picked the one that had the best cover. It came with no instruction booklet, so I really didn't know what to do... I began to learn what to do, but I never got far (I remember getting Pochi's Crown, and some of the items, along with Xemn's Glove). I figured out that each character could use specific items that other characters could not. Bad thing was, I never cought on as how to use Xemn's Glove, so almost all other special items were blocked for me. In 1992, I bought it at a small video game store for about $10.99. It came with an instruction, so I had a better time with it. I always enjoyed the music of the game (it also has my favorite game music), and often hummed the tunes in my head hours after I stopped playing (Xemn's and Meyna's themes being my favorite). Even though I had the manual for the game, I didn't get very far. I never got another crown, but I didn't pick up some other characters' special items (such as Meyna's Rod and Lyll's Pick Axe). I really started playing it in 1998, and got a bit farther on it (I got two crowns, Pochi's and Lyll's). Then, I stopped again. About a month ago, I started playing it again, better than ever, and I finally beat it. I realized that it was the best game that I ever played, and thought about making a website for it (there are still no websites for it, so I'm still thinking about making one). After seeing that there weren't very many FAQs about the game, I decided to write one. So, here it is... Enjoy it as much as you want. ======================================================================================= Thanks Yous and Such ======================================================================================= Without getting too personal, I'd like to thank all of my friends in real life, and my closer Internet friends (Proman, Alagnos, The Ultimos, AntiFox64, Atlas, Jim Camel, Omega-X, Jim Rome, and a lot of others...). I'd REALLY like to thank Brøderbund Software and Falcom Software again for producing such a great game. For my first walkthrough/FAQ, I say this is about average. And... I guess I'll provide you with some links and such. ======================================================================================= Links ======================================================================================= http://www.gamefaqs.com (GameFAQs, of course) http://egm.i-web.net/ (Yura's page...
