Introduction -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Kitty's Catch is a game for the NES which was never commercially released, but exists as a prototype. The premise of the game centers around two cats who are trying to catch some fish. Basically, it's a competition between two human players to catch the most fish and thus fill up your buckets first. There are a couple of little items you can obtain that might help, and several types of fish that appear in the pond, but the concept is extremely simple. The game even has a time limit of sorts, so the game does end after a short period. If you want to see a largely unfinished game that's not too terrible, check this one out. ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 3. Overview -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= =========== How to Play =========== After starting the game, you will see two cats in boats floating above a pond. Player 1 controls Pitter while Player 2 gets to control Patter. There are various types of fish and other objects in the water below, and the objective is to fish them out! To do so, you first unravel your cat's tail by pressing any direction on the Control Pad. While the tail is unraveled at any point, press A or B to drop a fishing line straight down. You can hit the button at different times in the unraveling to change its position. Press or hold either button to lower the hook. If it reaches the bottom, the line will break with no penalty to yourself. You need to position your hook directly in front of a fish if you hope to grab it. If a fish grabs on, it will stop moving for a few moments before getting automatically yanked out of the water. Each cat has a metal bucket hanging overhead; the bucket will be slightly lowered with each fish you catch. A shell will be awarded to the cat who fills their bucket first and before an unseen timer runs out. There is no clear way to tell just how much time is remaining, though the music's tempo increases at that point. When time does expire, the cat with the heavier bucket will receive a shell and the side with the most shells is named the winner. The game ends at this point, so you will have to press Start to return to the title screen. Once a cat is awarded a shell, the next "stage" begins and the buckets reset. You just keep playing until time runs out, pretty much. There really is not much more to it, considering this game was probably not finished due to its simplistic nature. ===== Items ===== After catching certain fish, you may notice a can floating around in the water. If you manage to hook it, you will get an item of sorts, designated by an icon below your cat's name. The item can be a double-hook which seems to allow you to reel in fish more quickly (but still one at a time). It can also be a musical note icon, which seems to have no use. In the second stage, the first time or two you catch the can, it causes all of the fish to slow down for a period of time, making them easier to catch. The Shark will appear if you collect another can after getting the musical note; catch it to gain a huge boost in your catch bucket! The regular fish will reappear once the Shark is caught or swims away. ============= Types of Fish ============= Goldfish: The regular fish you see floating around everywhere. They are harmless and move straight ahead. Jellyfish: These small creatures appear after you've caught a bunch of fish already. You can not catch one, but if you make contact, you will lose any special hooks/items you acquired up to that point. Rainbow Fish: They are slightly larger than the Goldfish, but may pause if you lower your hook. The best way to deal with this is to quickly drop the line close enough so it can't trick you. These start to appear in the second stage. Electric Eel: You can not catch the Electric Eel with your hook. In fact, if your hook touches it, you will be unable to move until the eel swims past. These start to appear in the second stage. Shark: If you manage to collect another floating can after obtaining the double-hook and the musical note, all the other fish will vanish and the Shark will appear. Catch it before it disappears and you will gain a huge boost to your catch bucket! ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 5. Secrets/Tips and Tricks -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= =================== Change Cat's Colors =================== To change your cat's colors, press Select to pause the game. Then, press any of the four directions on the Control Pad to swap their colors. ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 6.
