I have added the ASCII art title as well as the correction of a few grammatical errors, which included re-wording some sections for better clarifictaion. I also have added the game genie codes section as well. Version History- Version 0.1- The first version, which included everything but the additions I have listed above. Version 0.2- The current version. =======================================================================- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- \_____Introduction_____/ / \ Image Fight is another one of the other million space-fighter shoot-em' ups where you control a highly advanced starfigher in an attempt to save the Earth from the clutches of extraterrestrial evil. However, it distances itself from the other games that follow the standard shooter formula by having a unique power-up system as well as the ability to vary your fighter's speed at any time during game play. Note that this FAQ is intended solely as a general FAQ about the game. It is *not* a walkthrough. Perhaps if I receive enough email asking for a walkthrough, then I will consider doing one. You can also feel free to email me concerning any questions or comments you have about the game or this FAQ. ======================================================================= ----------------------------------------------------------------------- \_____The Story of Image Fight_____/ / \ ======================================================================= On a fateful day in 20xx, the Earth's moon exploded into four large fragments and a multitude of meteors. Aliens from afar had succeeded in destroying the West's moon base. One after another, mankind's other military industrial space complexes were being lost. What mankind dreaded had come to pass. Scores of unidentified fighters were in the area. In addition, the moon's main computer, still intact after the explosion, had a strange vegetation coiled around it. Their trademark evil exploits being a dead giveaway; invaders from the Boondoggle Galaxy had arrived to take over Earth. To counter these evil forces, leading scientists from all over the globe created the "OF-1" Fighter ship. Combat pilots depart the Earth to fend off the invaders and earn everlasting glory. (Taken from the Image Fight instruction manual) ======================================================================= ----------------------------------------------------------------------- \_____Controls_____/ / \ ======================================================================= Control Pad- The control pad is used to move the "OF-1" Fighter. Select Button- Is used at the title screen to select between one-player mode or two-player mode. Start Button- Is used to confirm your choice of a one-player or two- player game at the title screen. During game play, it is used to pause the game. Your score and the number of ships you have remaining will be displayed while the game is paused. An interesting rhing to note is that if you pause the game, the current stage music will reset and play over from the beginning, which is irritating if you ask me. A Button- Is used to alter your fighter's speed. There are four levels of speed, which are labeled 1,2,3 and 4, with 1 being the slowest and 4 being the fastest. You can monitor your current speed by looking at your speed level, which is displayed at the bottom of the screen. The number highlighted in orange is the current speed. B Button- Is used to fire your fighter's weapons. =======================================================================- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- \_____Power Ups_____/ / \ ======================================================================= There are two different types of power ups that you able to obtain during your missions, pods and components. Proper utilization of both are essential to your success in this game, so learn how to use both effectively. To obtain a power up, you must first shoot a power up case, which looks roughly like this- ______ / ____ \ )||| / \ |||( ||| ||| ||| ||| ||| ||| )||| \____/ |||( \______/ This may not be an exact replica, but you should get the general idea of what it looks like. If you're having trouble identifying one, you should know that it has a green center. On the other hand, you should also be shooting everything you see, in which case it will only be a matter of time until you eventually shoot one of these. I. Pods- Pods are turrets that fly next to your fighter and fire whenever you do. There are two types of pods, blue pods and red pods. Blue pods only fire straight ahead, but red pods can be rotated to fire in different directions. The direction a red pod faces is the opposite direction of the last move you inputted on the d-pad. For example, if you move your fighter to the left, then your red pods would face to the right and fire in that direction. You can also shoot your pods out to smash into hard to reach enemies. In order to do so, push both the A and B buttons simultaneously to fire them. Your fighter can only carry a maximum of three pods. If you acquire another pod after reaching the allotted amount, than all of your pods will change color according to the pod you just picked up. II. Components- Components are special attachments that attach to the front of your fighter and enhance its fighting capability. There are nine different components, each with its own unique characteristics. The components are as follows- (Taken from the Image Fight instruction manual) 1. Drilling Laser- This very powerful beam only fires forward for maximum effect. Invaders, beware! 2. Rippling Laser- An expanding weapon that "grows" in width as it moves out toward the enemy. Very handy! 3. Vulcan Cannon- Fires cannon blasts diagonally to the front left and front right. 4. Seeking Missile- An enemy seeking weapon. This missile will automatically head straight for the nearest enemy. In my opinion, this is one of the best weapons in the game, as it enables you cut a swath of destruction through the toughest of enemy waves. 5. Side Shooter- Fires directly to the left and to the right. This weapon is also very useful in those tight passages. 6. Shields- Continue pressing B to activate these protective screens. They can save your life! 7. Reflecting Ball- This weapon will bounce off of walls and, if aimed well, into enemies. Practice this useful technique. 8. Seeking Laser- This laser will "hunt" an enemy by curving toward them at right angles. Good in tight places. 9. 5-Way Gun- This formidable weapon fires in five directions at once. It will give that "all around" protection. Switching Components- If you have a component and want to switch to another component, you must first destroy your current one. This can accomplished in a number of ways, which are listed below- 1. The component is hit by enemy fire. 2. The component hits a wall or other terrain. 3. The component hits a power up case. 4. The component hits an enemy. =======================================================================- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- \_____Combat Simulation Stages_____/ / \ ======================================================================= The first five stages in image Fight are actually combat simulator stages designed to make you proficient in handling the OF-1 Fighter. You have to clear all five combat simulator stages with an average score of at least 90% to continue on to the real missions in the game. If you do not meet the 90% requirement you will have to re-train until you reach an acceptable achievement rating. Stages and descriptions- Stage 1- The first stage of the game has you flying over an enemy base. Take your time to get used to the controls and how your fighter handles. The boss for this level is the Pincer Pest. Stage 2- Stage two has you encountering a gigantic enemy warship named the Wombat in deep space. You're going to have to have fast reflexes and a fast trigger finger here, because the Wombat is armed to the teeth and will send out scores of enemy fighters to stop you. Stage 3- Here you will find yourself in an abandoned space mine that is now occupied by the enemy. You'll have to dodge obstacles here as well as fight in close quarters. The boss of this level is Cucamonga, one of the more annoying and cheap bosses in the game. Stage 4- You will find yourself fighting in close quarters here as well, except that you are now fighting in an elevator shaft. Just like the previous stage, there will obstacles as well as assorted enemies. Be sure to stay on your toes and be on the lookout for Sweet Patootie (Is it just me or are these the lamest boss names ever?) Stage 5- The culmination of all the combat simulation stages, level five will put all of your skills to the test as you are confronted with the toughest series of challenges yet. The boss for this level is Char- Broiled. =======================================================================- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- \_____Real Combat Stages_____/ / \ ======================================================================= After successfully completing the combat simulator stages, you move on to the real deal. These three missions are all that stand between you and the saving of Earth, so do your best. 1st Target- Enemy Space Base *Classified* 2nd Target- The Enemy Flagship *Classified* 3rd Target- The Final target *Classified* =======================================================================- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- \_____Additional Comments/Hints and Tips_____/ / \ ======================================================================= 1. Use your rocket fire as a weapon! When you change speeds, a burst of flame comes out of the back of your fighter. This can be used as a last resort weapon to damage enemies. 2. Don't hesitate to sacrifice your component if there is no other alternative to survival. If you find yourself overwhelmed by enemies, use your component as a battering ram to damage them. It may just make the difference between you living or dying ad having to restart the level. 3. Use your speed to your advantage. Higher speeds are more useful in open areas that allow a wide berth of movement. Slower speeds should be used in tight passages for tricky maneuvers where there is little room for error. Stage Select Code- There is a stage select code that you can employ if you are getting stuck, or just want to skip ahead. On the title screen, hold down the A and B buttons, and then press the start button. If done correctly, a stage select screen should appear, allowing you to choose the stage of your choice. Use the select button to pick your desired level, and press start to confirm your decision.
