INTRODUCTION G0100 =============================================================================== Welcome to 'Hell Fighter' for the NES, released by Sachen in 1992. Suggestions, comments or errors - tell me about it. Enjoy! =============================================================================== 02.) OVERVIEW & CONTROLS G0200 =============================================================================== The main menu has an option selection, use it to change the number of players you get per credit (1->19), as well as credits itself (1->6). You may start the game from stage 1 through 4. Other options include turning off the music and making the game more rapid. As you progress through the stages, one touch by an enemy will kill you. You then restart an early point of the game. There are waypoints but the game does not tell you if you have passed one. Controls: ````````` A Jump B Attack DOWN + B Kick SELECT Suicide Kick actually just find items in the ground, but does not harm enemies. Jumping into blocks can break them to free up power-ups. Items: `````` There are items available to pick up. It cycles through different colors which changes the power-up obtained. Blue Defense Ball Green Fireball Attack Orange Increase Knife Attack Red ? The Defense ball first stack, meaning you can have 2 at the same time. The third one will increase the speed of both as they turn around your body. The knife attack will first triple, then start homing in on enemies. Not sure what the red ball does, although I also never required to use it. =============================================================================== 03.) WALKTHROUGH G0300 =============================================================================== Stage 1: Death City ```````` Quickly kill the skeleton running towards you and then start slaying the blue devils in the area. as you step into the second small put with the green skeleton, one big skeleton will pop up from behind. Get some power-ups to replace the weak knife. Try not to have the fireball as you approach the stakes in the ground as they cannot shoot through. The knifes can, which makes killing the blue guys behind really easy. Jump from one colored pole to the next as you go across the fishbone invested pool. There is nothing you can do to increase the speed and just wait for them to get across. After some more enemies, some poles will fly through the stage. Take it slowly here. Now there are three difficult jumps. The first involves having to jump over the fire and still make the other side. The second is not so hard, as the beam of lava actually carries you across if you jump a little too late. It kills you if you jump into it, but for some reason it doesn't hurt to be touched from the tip. The third jump combines the first two obstacles. BOSS: Skeleton This guy walks towards you very slowly, then jumps to the side and repeats going the other way. Simply start shooting at him, homing knifes would be great to have, and stand at around 20% into the screen from the left side. He will simply jump over you. Run right and stand just in front of the steps going up. He will again jump over you after reaching that far. Repeat this process until he explodes. But it's not over yet. The head survived! Run into the left corner and start shooting again. When he does the circling you better get ready to jump. Do it at the exact point when he starts swooping across the steps on the right side, you will dodge his attack and he will probably die before attempting this again. Repeat two more times. The fourth head is slightly different, in this case do not jump and it should just fly over with the circle. Just make sure you are all the way in the corner. Stage 2: Hell Prison ```````` The water drops do not hurt you, it's just scenery. Jump over the gap and grab the power-up, blue would be nice. What is not scenery are those spikes in the ceiling, they will kill you. Get across the next gap and kill the large skeleton. Get across the logs, the controls are not too easy but just start when they are just popping out from the water. Wait on the right side of the green platform until the enemy further right has dropped down. Soon you reach a bridge. Run across knifes blazing to take out the enemy while the bridge collapses. You should make it across if you kill the enemy quickly. There is a very large chasm up ahead with power-ups waiting at the bottom. To get them you need to run down quickly, as there will be ledges going up as you step over the area. It's likely you reach the bottom of the screen by mistake, which kills you. Think about it if you really want a power-up to risk your life. The last two gaps are NOT covered by a ledge, so jump it. When you see the two large pipes sticking out prepare to run right. Get closer but not too close, wait for the fire to retract and quickly kill the large skeleton at the same time. On the other side, wait at the edge of the plateau and time the drop to the floor. Do it just when the top fire is gone. Continue until some strange machine in the ceiling will surely get your attention. It stomps down as you try to get through. Stand in front of it so it comes down, then quickly go to the next safe area. After all of these the boss awaits. BOSS: Snake First you need to dodge the falling blocks from the ceiling. Then the snake appears on the right. I'm not sure the fire is suppose to hurt you because it never hurt me. Just shoot at it until it stops. It will go towards the middle in a slow movement. Just fire until it is close and then time your way underneath it. Wait in the left corner for it to return and just shoot at it. It cannot harm you in this corner, pretty pathetic. Stage 3: Ice Palace ```````` If you thought the game was tough by now, be prepared to get even tougher! There are multiple hazards on screen starting with the thundering clouds. They only react when two touch so be on the lookout. Much more dangerous are those birds and tablets swinging around. Try to reach the power-up as quickly as possible, a knife upgrade would be a a good idea. Those feathers that drop from killed birds are also dangerous for some reason, poisonous?! Once you are through the initial onslaught, jump over the platforms to continue. There are still occasional birds and tablets but it's nowhere near as bad as the beginning. Soon you will reach a platform and the next one has a dog. This is extremely tough to get through. First off there are some clouds gathering above and birds flying just low enough so you can't hit them but they still fly up to where you stand. Make sure the dog jumps into the abyss and then jump down to the crystal area first before getting on the next platform, otherwise you will not make it through the masses of dangers. Hop down to the low platform and use your head to smash the above for some power-ups. Upgrading to homing knifes would be very useful here. Jump up and wait for the dog to the right to jump into the abyss as before. Watch out for the clouds as you wait. There are more dogs on the next stretch, simply walk underneath them when they jump. They will follow which will slow down the game as before but if you are fast enough they aren't any threat. The one that is below the stairs you should jump OVER though. Then there are these guys throwing rocks. They are slow too. Wait for them the throw and jump over them. They don't even turn around. Soon you reach a boat with three power-ups before. Make sure get the three blue balls and you are practically untouchable for the rest of the level. Even the dogs and rock-throwers are now dead meat. Take the boat to the other side, the thunder can still hurt you though! Soon you reach the boss. BOSS: Tri-Face No wonder where all these birds and tablets come from -this guy spews them out. With homing knifes and 3 blue balls you are all set. Just keep hitting the attack button and avoid the thunder clouds above. First the guy will go along the bottom and then all the way at the top. If you are consistent with your shots then it will be around 3-4 rounds like this. Stage 4: Temple of Hope ```````` Shoot the first two enemies and the vines that drop down. Make sure all but the root is gone, a tiny bit remains though. Then jump one the log and jump on the platform that is slightly lower. From here you can reach the power-up. Kill the enemy on the right and jump back on the log. Remove the vine (if you took the blue power-up then that will more or less remove it for you). Get back up on the next platform as you cannot continue at sea level. Go up to the highest level for another power-up (blue is still a good choice). Jump back down on the logs and leap over each small block. The third power-up is on the last block. Be careful of the liches that throw lightning zaps. The first guy can be caught by jumping carefully but the second one is too high up. When you reach the shore you better grab the orange power-up to give you some homing knifes. Take out all the enemies on-screen. Just before you reach the end you may want to change your weapons to the green fireballs. Also try to kill every lich before you reach the boss. BOSS: Crab It is quite hard to avoid its attack at first. There are two kinds and they alternate. First it will slap around with its claws on both sides and then lethal bubbles will pop out from the mouth. To take it out, shoot the end of the claw. Homing missiles do not seem to hit it so changing to the green fireballs was a good idea. Jump and hit it with single shots. There is hardly any way to avoid its attacks right now but once you destroyed one arm it is much easier. What you want to do is jump on top of it when the arms are about to come down. Then return so the bubbles don't hit you. If you alternate between sides it will spend some time huddling over to you. When you are on top it will make it easy to hit the end of the arm. The good news is that this boss doesn't last as long as the others. Stage 5: Woods ```````` Dodge the red rock and get three power-ups. The homing knifes help a lot at this point as well as one blue shield. The blue devil drops explosives. With the knifes you can practically take out everything from a distance including those annoying caterpillars. There are more power-ups coming up to boost your shield. Check all chests but avoid the dropping floor between the chests. The rest of the level is quite repetitive. However, after a tree is a ledge with a red caterpillar and a chest. This should tell you that the floor is soon unstable. BOSS: Dragon This takes a long time. Make sure you have the homing knifes but you can still get them from the chests here. The dragon has two attacks. The red balls that just drop down and the blue ones that bounce. Both are relatively easy to dodge. Stand near the base of the large wall and fire away from it. Shooting left should hit the dragon at the top. What you can also do is dig a hole in the wall to dodge the balls easily. Then you can stand below the dragon and shoot left without any harm coming to you. Eventually it will fall, but even if you continuously hit it than it might take over five minutes. Stage 6: Lab ```````` Get the power-up in the box, and another one shortly afterwards. The blue balls that drop on head will first sit there and then explode after a couple of seconds. It gets annoying when you need to jump soon as they will drop in at awkward moments. The third power-up is up soon too. I suggest the three blue shields for now as it helps a lot and no shooting is required at this point. The rest of the level continues like a real platformer game, with moving platforms, treadmills, reverse treadmills and so on. More of the same enemies drop in and near the end a few blue balls get dropped in at quick succession. The level is much shorter compared to previous ones. BOSS: Monkey This is the easiest boss of all six. If you didn't get a homing knife yet then break open the boxes in the area. Stay here and continue to shoot. The monkey only has one attack. The spiked ball will slowly hover over and stop directly above your head. When this happens, step aside just so you are one full length at the side. What happens is that the ball will point lasers in all directions including straight down but miss as you moved aside. The other laser should be on the right of you. Don't move yet as the ball will fall down and disappear. Continue doing so until the monkey head explodes. THE END =============================================================================== ZZ.)
