I personally really like this game because it does a nice job of capturing the spirit of exploring space, with colorful characters, and is quite story driven. Although you might say the story is your cliche aliens coming to conquer Earth, it is well done and even has a plot twist or two. Your space travels are often interrupted by transmissions from Earth from children or other people sending you their best wishes, praying that you succeed in your mission to save them. Since I felt you should be able to follow the story to enjoy this game fully, and it is in Japanese, I have translated all of the important story elements throughout the game, so this guide contains a lot of spoilers. I hope that you will be able to use this guide to play through the game and enjoy it, even if your Japanese is very poor or non-existent. - - - = = = ==================== = = = - - - - - - = = = ===== Contents ===== = = = - - - - - - = = = ==================== = = = - - - Search words are given in square brackets []. 1. The borders of all nations have disappeared. All people are allowed freedom and love. It was the beginning of eternal prosperity. However... A strange civilization from outer space, the Garumu, appeared looking to attack the Earth. The Earth was once again faced with crisis. "We are the Garumu. Long ago, our sun lost its light and the planet of the Garumu became inhabitable. We have wandered a distance of 260 million lightyears in search of somewhere to once again live peaceably. Here, we have finally found the second Garumu planet. It's name is Earth." - - - = = = =================== = = = - - - - - - = = = == Game Mechanics = = = = - - - - - - = = = =================== = = = - - - [sec2] =-=-=-=-=-= ---= Jumping =-- [sec2a] =-=-=-=-=-= While exploring outer space, you move around by performing "Jumps". The distance to your current destination is shown when you select it on the map, and after you Jump. Your Jump has a Range that you can change. At first, you can only select a Range of 1. This means, if your destination is 20 units away, it will take you 20 Jumps to reach it. However, every time you find a Booster, your maximum Jump Range increases by one. So if your Jump Range is 2, it will take you 10 Jumps to go a distance of 20. When your Jump Range is 3 or higher, you lose HP every time you Jump, I guess because large jumps are hard on your armor. The HP decrease for different jump distances is as follows: Jump Distance HP Damage 3 1 4 2 5 4 6 7 7 11 8 16 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- ---= Max Level Limits =--- [sec2b] =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- This game has a maximum level you are allowed to attain for each portion of the game. For example, you cannot level up past level 7 until you defeat the Garumu Base 1. I don't have the information to make a comprehensive list of maximum levels for each portion, but it is something to be aware of. If you are unable to level up further, you will be told so at rest locations, such as Earth or the satellites, and they will tell you what action you have to perform to be allowed to gain levels once again. Here are the level maxima I noticed: Level 15 is the max until you defeat the Garumu Base 3, level 20 is the max until you defeat the Garumu Aircraft Carrier, level 24 is the max until you defeat the Garumu Battleship 1, level 32 is the max until you defeat the Garumu Battleship 2, and level 40 is the maximum for the entire game. =-=-=-=-=-= ---= Battles =--- [sec2c] =-=-=-=-=-= During battles, you have two characters to fight with. If you want to use an item, you have to do it at the beginning of the turn, and it doesn't take one of your character's actions, so you can use Energy items to heal without using a turn. During battle, you have the option of attacking with a beam weapon or missiles. If you select the beam weapon, you will automatically attack all enemies at once. The more enemies, the less damage you do to each enemy, because your attack power is distributed amongst them. If you select missiles, you will be asked how many you want to fire up to a maximum of 10. The more missiles you fire at once, the more damage the attack will do. The damage is also distributed amongst all enemies, but missile damage is generally much more deadly than beam damage. Your number of missiles is limited, so you don't want to waste them. You get more missiles when enemies drop them after battles, or by buying them at certain rest locations. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- ---= Running From Battles =--- [sec2d] =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- If you are traveling in outer space, you have two different run away options: つうじょう (General) and ちょうやく (Jump). General is a normal run away attempt. If you fail, the enemy will have a turn to attack you. Jump requires sacrificing HP to perform, but is extremely likely to succeed. If you fail, the enemy again will have a turn to attack you. If you are not in outer space, but exploring a shelter, then you only have the "General" run away option. I have noticed that, if you try to run away twice in a row, the second attempt almost always succeeds. It is very rare that the second attempt doesn't succeed. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ---= Enemy Attacks =--- [sec2e] =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= There are a large variety of enemy attacks other than simple physical attacks. Here is a list of different special attacks you can expect to see: Suicide Ram: The enemy damages you and kills itself in the process. Sleep: One of your party members cannot take any actions for at least one turn. He cannot use Rimi's ESP either. Wire: You are unable to run from the battle. Damage Wire: You are unable to run from the battle and your HP slowly decreases during the battle. Call for Reinforcements: More enemies appear. Sometimes fails. Fog: The screen is tinted light grey and your beam's attack power is reduced. Smog: The screen is tinted brown and you are unable to use Rimi's ESP powers. Missile Drain: Your number of missiles is reduced. Paralyze Attack: A character loses the ability to use either his beam or his missiles. Net: Missile attacks become useless. There are a few other enemy attacks that you will only see during certain boss battles, and those are not listed here. But they are explained below in the walkthrough section during those battles. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- ---= Death in the Party =--- [sec2f] =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- If either you or Blue die, then your game is over. You restart at Earth or Kyastero, depending on how far in the game you are, with your uranium level decreased by half. You retain all of your items and experience, so dying is not usually a very big deal. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ---= Menu Commands =--- [sec2g] =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ---Main Menu--- This is the menu you see while you are outside of battle, while moving around in space: ちょうやく きょり (1) もくてきち じょうたい もちもの リミのESP ちょうやく - "Jump". The 3 Garumu Bases [sec6.i] You are introduced to some characters. Daichi (ダイチ) is the commander of the Earth forces. He says that, due to the attack by the Garumu, over 33 hundred million people have died. Jupiter has just been wiped out. The defeat of Earth is inevitable. A barrier has been erected to protect Earth, but it is only a matter of time until it falls, unless you are able to destroy the Garumu aircraft carrier. Mount your Riser and go! Blue (ブルー) is your subpilot. He's very crass and cocky. Mio (ミオ) is a "computer doll", the operating system for your Riser. She says to attack the Garumu aircraft carrier, you must destroy 3 bases in order to disable its force field. Also, Earth has received a distress call from the moon, so you should head there to help. You are presented with a map of the solar system: ------------------------------------------------------------ o <--Pluto s <--Pixel Simpson--> s s <--Argos Garumu Base 2--> E s <--Unique Mars--> o E <--Garumu Base 3 o <--Uranus Garumu Base 1--> E s <--Dic Earth--> oo <--Moon Venus--> o E <--Garumu Aircraft Carrier Sun--> O ------------------------------------------------------------ There is the Sun (たいよう), the moon (つき), Earth (ちきゅう), Venus (きんせい), Mars (かせい), Uranus (てんおうせい), and Pluto (めいおうせい). The other planets have presumably been destroyed. Additionally, there are five satellites, Dic (ディック), Unique (ユニック), Simpson (シンプソン), Argos (アルゴス), and Pixel (ピクセル). Finally, there are four Garumu aircraft, Garumu Base 1 (ガルムベース1), Garumu Base 2 (ガルムベース2), Garumu Base 3 (ガルムベース3), and the Garumu Aircraft Carrier (ガルムくうぼ). Your primary mission is to destroy the Garumu spacecraft, starting with the Garumu bases. The satellites are where you can restore your HP and ESP (you don't have ESP yet), get your password, and find out how much experience (EP) you need to level up. Some of them have items for sale, and you use uranium (ウラン) for currency (received during battles). Earth is also a place to restore HP and ESP, but not get your password. The other planets and the moon can be explored to find androids who relay important information to you and to find useful items. You cannot land on the Sun, so it has no purpose other than to hold the solar system together with its large mass and sustain life by radiating heat. First, head to the moon to answer that distress call. A. The Moon [sec6.ia] Getting to the moon might take some patience since you begin quite weak and the battles can range from quick and easy to impossible, so run away if you find a battle isn't going so well. Frustratingly, you miss often in this game when attacking with your regular weapon, especially at the beginning. On the surface of the moon are two androids, one of which will replenish your HP the first time you visit (and only the first time). Their dialogue is translated below, along with the droids in the moon interior. Go down the opening in the planet surface to reach the interior, then use the map below to find the 3 items. In most places like this, you will have random encounters to deal with. On the moon, however, you never get attacked. Map: The Moon Surface droid dialogue: Droid 1 - "Hello hello. I am a talking android." Droid 2 - "There are survivors inside this shelter. Please save them." Interior droid dialogue: Droid 1 - "To become the True Soldier, you must obtain four 'Hearts': Love, Friendship, Courage, and Strength." Droid 2 - "You can trade uranium for beams and missiles." Droid 3 - "There is a 4M-Vulcan on Simpson that's twice as destructive as the 2M-Vulcan." Droid 4 - "You should get the Booster that's in this shelter." The Capsule is your primary objective. When you reach the Capsule, you find the survivors are alive. Blue suggests taking the Capsule back to Earth, so do so. B. Garumu Bases [sec6.ib] On Earth, you drop off the Capsule. Now, other than the mission to destroy the Garumu spaceships, you are given no other advice. You are free to explore the solar system as you please. For now, we should prepare for battling the Garumu by improving our equipment. An android on the moon mentioned a better weapon on Simpson. That sounds like a good place to start, so let's head there. To warn you ahead of time, the 4M-Vulcan on Simpson costs 210 uranium, so you will have to win some battles save up. If you die, you will keep your experience, but lose half of your uranium, so keep this in mind. Go to Dic, the satellite nearby Earth, to restore HP and get your current password. On Dic, you can also buy Energy for 40 uranium and E-Missiles for 8 uranium each. Soon after rescuing the Capsule, you will get a message from Earth. A young girl that was on the Capsule wants to thank you for helping her. Her name is Rimi. She has lost her memory, but Blue says to give her time and it will probably come back. After more battles, you will get another message from Daichi, announcing your promotion to Lieutenant (ルーテナント). After more battles, another message from Daichi. He wants you to meet a new Earth soldier who will fight with you. It's Rimi! Daichi explains that she has ESP ability, and will be able to help you telepathically from Earth. A new command appears on your menu, Rimi's ESP (リミのESP), so now you can cast spells basically. To start with, she has Beat (ビット) that can attack all enemies, and Comfort (なぐさめ), which restores some HP to both characters. She gains more ESP abilities as you level up. Read the section "Rimi's ESP" of this guide for more information. She has limited ESP points, but they can be restored by visiting satellites or Earth. When you are finally able to afford the 4M-Vulcan, head to Simpson. Some of the enemy battles will get harder as you get farther from Earth, but with a little luck you'll make it there just fine. Buy the 4M-Vulcan (4Mバルカン) for your main character since he always attacks first. You will also want to buy one for Blue, so do so if you can, or do it whenever possible. Each 4M-Vulcan you purchase will make your life much easier, because the battles will be less painful. On Simpson, you can also purchase S-Missiles for 21 uranium each. If you buy even one S-Missile for a character, then that character will lose all of his E-Missiles, so be warned. S-Missiles are much stronger, and eventually all enemies will start dropping S-Missiles instead of E-Missiles. It's up to you if you want to bother spending uranium on some now. When you feel ready, it is time to challenge the first Garumu Base. It is next to the satellite Dic, so head to Dic to restore HP/ESP, get password, and then head to Garumu Base 1. Boss: Garumu Base 1 (ガルムベース1) Battles with Garumu spacecraft are a little different. You begin the fight out of range of the Garumu, so you cannot attack at first. The Garumu can shoot at you, however. To get closer, select Draw Nearer (せっきん). Your range to the enemy will decrease, but it will take several turns to get close enough. When you are close enough to attack, the command Fight (たたかう) will appear on the menu. To do serious damage, you should unload your missiles and have Rimi cast Beat. Use Energy to restore HP as needed. After successfully defeating the first base, do some more battling to regain your missile stock and reach level 8, where Rimi learns the useful Power (パワー) ability. Your next goal is to destroy the Garumu Base 2, so head there when ready. Boss: Garumu Base 2 (ガルムベース2) Actually, this is not much different than the first base battle. Now, you can use Rimi's Power ability to increase the attack of your beams. Other than that, unload missiles, have Rimi use Beat, and use Energy to heal. The third Garumu Base is located in the upper-right section of the solar system map. It is not really any harder to destroy than the other two, so head there when ready. But while you are there, you might want to stop by a couple of the satellites. The closest is Unique. You meet a scientist there named Seigi (セイギ) who is very pessimistic about your chances of defeating the Garumu. Nothing to do on Unique for now other than restore HP/ESP, get a password, and continue on. Heading to the Argos satellite is a waste of time for now, but Mio will say that a scientist, Hiroki, is imprisoned there inside a force field that you cannot yet break. Soon, you want to stop by the satellite Pixel, where you can purchase the Ion Beam (イオンビーム) for 400 uranium, which will be super helpful. When ready, attack the Garumu Base 3. Boss: Garumu Base 3 (ガルムベース3) Once again, you have to move within range before you can attack the base. If you have S-Missiles, these can do massive damage, making this a very short battle. Otherwise, have Rimi use Power to improve your attack, unload whatever missiles you have, and heal with Energy. The base does about 10 HP damage at most, so it's not too dangerous at this point. C. Uranus [sec6.ic] After destroying the third base, stop off at Unique to restore HP/ESP and get the password. The scientist there will mention that he saw an escape pod from the Garumu Base 3 headed toward Uranus. Hmm... With all 3 Garumu bases destroyed, the force field around the Garumu Aircraft Carrier is now supposedly down. However, if you try to attack it, you will find that your weapons still do not damage it. So, instead, let's head to Uranus to see what was in the escape pod. If you have not done so, buy the Ion Beam on Pixel for both your characters. Map: Uranus Droid dialogue: Droid 1 - "The Garumu commander who locked Hiroki away is taking refuge here." Droid 2 - "The Heart of Courage is in this shelter." Droid 3 - "If you want to know what the Garumu possess, ask Seigi of Unique." Droid 4 - "Hiroki is searching for the True Soldier who possess the 4 Hearts." You will eventually want to accomplish both, and it doesn't matter which you do first. If you first head for location "2", you will obtain the Heart of Courage, which is a key item that you must have later. It doesn't appear in your inventory, but it does say that you have it in your stat menu. You will also get the 3-Way. The 3-Way is a piece of equipment that allows you to distribute your attack power amongst 3 enemies instead of all of them, which is useful when you are attacked by a lot of enemies at once. You have to choose one of your characters to equip this, and it doesn't matter too much which one you choose. If you try to take the item at location "1", you see that it is a sheaded husk of Garumu skin, to which Blue gets disgusted. It has no purpose and you just throw it away. When you head toward location "E" by taking the other fork, you will first meet with a non-random encounter. Your beam is pretty ineffective in this fight, but Rimi's Needle (ニードル) is quite destructive if your level is high enough to have it (level 14). You can probably win the battle in one turn by casting it twice. When you reach location "E", you find a Garumu soldier, Gi-Padein, who is injured and unable to move. He says that he is loyal to the Garumu, and that you should just finish him off. You are given the options to Fight (たたかう) or Rescue (たすける) him. If you choose Rescue, Mio repairs him. Then Blue calls out, "OK, buddy, now let's fight!". Gi-Padein replies, "Suddenly, I don't feel like fighting. In fact, I'm starting to feel feelings of affection for you people." He suddenly explodes (Why you ask? For now, it's a mystery), leaving behind a circular object radiating energy. You take it, but you don't know what it is. An android appears where Gi-Padein once stood. He says, "The password for Venus is 2126." Sounds important, yeah? ii. The Four Hearts [sec6.ii] You have the object left behind by Gi-Padein, but you don't know what to do with it. One of the androids gave a hint that the scientist on Unique might know what it is. So head to Unique. There, Seigi remarks that it is a machine that can disable Garumu force fields. You should be able to use it to free Hiroki. He activates the machine so it is ready for use. If you head to Argos, the machine (きかい) will automatically be activated, disabling the barrier which imprisoned Hiroki, allowing you to regain your HP/ESP and get your password here from now on. Hiroki thanks you and explains that he will give you the Antimatter Missile if you can prove you are the True Soldier by collecting the four 'Hearts'. Perhaps you already have the Heart of Courage from Uranus. If not, you should get it now. But where are the others? Well, the android on Uranus gave you a password for Venus, so that's a sign we should head there. A. However, there is a secret passageway, which is indicated as location "A" on the map above. At location "A", push up to access the passage. The android on the surface hinted about this secret, but it's still pretty hard to find. This leads to an area with an unbreakable wall. You have to talk to the android next to it who asks for a password. You got the password on Uranus, so enter 2126, and head through the passage to find the Heart of Friendship and a 1-Way. Choose a character to equip the 1-Way. It allows you to focus all of your beam strength on a single enemy. If you go through the series of non-random encounters on Venus, the third one is pretty hard. You should probably resort to unloading all of your missiles. If you don't take them out quickly, they will continue to call for backup, and you probably will never kill them all. The android located after the third non-random encounter tells you that the Heart of Love is on the backside of the moon. It seems like we already scavenged the moon, but let's go back and try to find that Heart. B. Backside of the Moon [sec6.iib] If you head back to the moon, you'll probably have no reason how to access the backside of the moon. Well, here it is: From the moon, leave and start heading toward Uranus. After jumping once toward Uranus, change your destination to be the moon, and go back to the moon. This causes you to land on the moon's backside. Map: Backside of the Moon Surface droid dialogue: Droid 1 - "This is the backside of the moon." Garumu Aircraft Carrier [sec6.iie] Go to Dic to restore HP/ESP and get your password before heading toward the Garumu Aircraft Carrier. It's time to finally save the Earth! Boss: Garumu Aircraft Carrier Just like the base battles, you first have to move into range. When you are finally in range, select Fight (たたかう), then select the Antimatter Missile (Hミサイル). The Garumu ship will be instantly destroyed. Yay! Earth is saved! III. Interlude [sec6.iii] A long story sequence now commences, which I translate in full below. Let's pretend you named your character Smith. Mio: The Garumu Aircraft Carrier is destroyed. The Earth army is triumphant. We should return to the waiting people of Earth. Blue: We returned peace to Earth. Let's go back, Rimi is waiting. When I get back to Earth, I think I'll open a flower shop with Rimi. Rimi: Warp to Earth! Mio: We've arrived at Earth. Daichi: The difficult war with the Garumu is suddenly over. With the destruction of the Garumu carrier, the Garumu are almost completely annihilated. The rest have abandoned Earth. Smith, Blue, your merit during this war was great. Nicely done. You have fought well for us all. Rimi: Smith, Blue, congratulations! Thanks to your victory, a great number of lives have been saved. Truly, congratulations. Narration: The difficult fight with the Garumu is over. With the destruction of the Garumu, the rebuilding of the solar system can begin. Leaving behind a tired Blue, Smith went alone to the beach to look at the stars. With the removal of the barrier over Earth, the light from an infinite number of stars came pouring down. In the newly returned silence of space, the faint light of Garumu wreckage can be seen drifting about. Only a little before, the Risers were up there fighting. Rimi: Beautiful starry sky, huh? Narration: Suddenly, Rimi was at Smith's side. Rimi's clear eyes looked far into space. Rimi: With this, peace has truly returned. Narration: Rimi grasped Smith's hand. Warmth circulated through her soft hand. Before long, the supposedly asleep Blue approached. Noticing him, Rimi released Smith's hand. Blue: Rimi! Let's get married and open a flower shop together. Rimi: Eh? Narration: Rimi was bewildered Blue: Rimi, what's your answer? Rimi: ... Blue: ??? Mio: Emergency! The Garumu have returned! Blue: Eh!? What the heck?! Mio: Riser Squadron, assemble in the control room immediately! Blue: These guess never give up, huh? Rimi, think hard about what I said. Rimi: ... Blue: Smith, let's go! Daichi: A stargate has appeared behind the Garumu Aircraft Carrier's location. A large number of Garumu fighters have once again been sent here. The stargate is a connection between us and the Garumu headquarters. Riser Squadron, it is your duty to pass through the stargate and destroy the Garumu headquarters. Do not return to Earth until you defeat the Garumu. You are the only ones that can perform this duty. Will you do it? Smith: Yes. For the sake of the future of Earth. Let us go. Blue: So it is. I'll go wherever I have to to do these guys in. Rimi: Smith, take this charm pendant. Blue: Rimi, thank you. I love you! IV. The Garumu Great Four [sec6.iv] Where the Garumu Aircraft Carrier was previously located, there is now a stargate. Travel to the stargate and select the first option (はいる) to enter. A short dialogue commences: Blue: Where the heck are we? Mio: We are in Garumu airspace. There is an asteroid nearby. Let's head there. When you reach the asteroid, you are attacked. ?: Damn Garumu! We'll never give into you! Blue: Hey, wait. We're not Garumu. ?: You can't fool us! (More attacking) Blue: Calm down. Does my face look Garumu!? ?: Look. Stop. I am a sage from Pios, Pamu. Please forgive my companions for jumping to conclusions. Where have you people come from? Blue: We've come from Earth to defeat the Garumu. Pamu: Oh, is this so? Are you Earth's Riser soldiers? I have heard rumors about you. We are survivors from the Pios civilization, which is now destroyed by the Garumu. Blue: How sad. Perhaps we can bring peace back to Pios, yeah? Pamu: You have a strong spirit! You are our only hope. We will give you whatever strength we can. Blue: Joy! Mio: Let's land. Pamu: This is Kyastero Your HP/ESP are restored on Kyastero. You can get your password, and buy Energy for 128 uranium and S-Missiles for 60 uranium each. When you leave the Kyastero asteroid, you are now presented with a different map, representing the Garumu airspace: ------------------------------------------------------------ O <--Alpha O <--Database O <--Uru O <--Kyastero O <--Battleship 1 O <--Garumu Gate ------------------------------------------------------------ There are 2 asteroids: Kyastero (キャステロ) and Database (データベース). There is one planet, Uru (ウル) and a star, Alpha (アルファ). There is one Garumu aircraft, the Battleship 1 (せんかん1). Finally, there is a stargate, Garumu Gate (ガルムゲート). The star, Alpha, is too hot to land on, so you can ignore that. If you go to Database, you receive a message from an artificial intelligence created by the Piosu who says that, if you bring it a disk, it can analyze it for you. Let's stop at Uru and see what we find there. Surface sage dialogue: Sage 1 - "The Garumu Gate connects the Garumu airspace to the dark airspace. In this shelter, you an buy the Mega Ion." Sage 2 - "If you destroy the Battleship 1, you can pass through the Garumu Gate." Interior sage dialogue: Sage 1 - "This planet was destroyed by the Garumu Great Four: 'Padein', 'Princess Madonna', 'Borao', and 'Gameringer'. You should be wary of these four." After getting this for both your characters, get the Booster, and you are done with Uru. B. Battleship 1 [sec6.ivb] If you purchased two Mega Ions on Uru, you should now be ready to take on the Battleship 1. Boss: Battleship 1 The battleship has the ability to turn characters to stone. If a character is turned to stone, he will be unable to take any actions, except that person's action can still be used to have Rimi use her ESP power. Hopefully, you can take out the battleship before both characters are turned to stone. Unload your missiles and have Rimi cast Power to improve the attack power of your regular attack. Having destroyed the battleship, head back to Kyastero to heal and get your password, then make your way to the Garumu Gate. C. Omega [sec6.ivc] When you pass through the Garumu Gate, you will be presented a map of the dark airspace. I guess it's called dark because there's no star. The only objects present are the Garumu Gate you just passed through, and a planet called Omega. So there's no choice but to visit Omega. Map: Omega Surface sage dialogue: Sage 1 - "Boosters are on Uru and Zangu." Sage 2 - "Padein has occupied this shelter. If only you can somehow destroy him." Sage 3 - "In Garumu airspace, your radar doesn't work correctly. If you get the Garumu Radar, you can find the rulers of this airspace." The fight commences after some trash talk. Boss: Padein (パディン) Padein isn't too difficult. He has 1550 HP and does about 30 HP damage to a single character per turn, but he also casts Smog, which prevents you from using ESP. You'll have to heal with Energy when you need to, and you won't be able to cast Power. Use missiles to make faster work of him. After victory, you receive the Disk (ディスク). As you will recall, you should take this to the Database. First, you'll have to pass back through the Garumu Gate. D. Amos [sec6.ivd] When you bring the Disk to the Database, you will learn the coordinates of a few new locations. The Garumu airspace now looks like this: ------------------------------------------------------------ O Iburu--> O O O O Zangu--> O O <--Amos O ------------------------------------------------------------ If you use the Disk by accessing it from your menu screen, you will get the message: "When love and light intersect, the six legged demon will be destroyed." Sounds important, right? There's no clue where to go next, so let's head for Amos since its icon it looks like the other safe places in this region. When you arrive at Amos, you are attack by Borao, one of the Garumu Great Four. Boss: Borao (ボーラオー) Borao has 1800 HP and damages a single character for about 35 HP. He also has an attack which will reduce a character's maximum HP. He's fairly easy to defeat with missiles, and you can use the Power spell to increase the damage of your beam, as usual. If he managed to drain your maximum HP, the effect won't go away after your victory, but the next time you level up, your max HP gain will be huge to make up for the deficit he inflicted, so it's like it never happened. After victory, the people of Amos thank you. The sage there asks if you've heard of the Icarus Gun. He says it is able to rip space and time and destroy anything. At Amos, you can buy P-Missiles for 99 uranium, which are super powerful. I recommend stocking up on these for the boss fights coming up with at least one of your characters. We've now killed off two of the Garumu Great Four. You now have two locations to choose from: Iburu and Zangu. If you go to Zangu, you will find that the shelter there is completely dark, so you cannot explore. So, for now, head to Iburu. E. If you unload 10 P-Missiles on her, you can kill her in one turn. When you defeat Princess Madonna, you will get the Garumu Radar. This causes a new location to appear on your map, so the Garumu airspace now looks like: ------------------------------------------------------------ O <--X-Point O O O O O O O O ------------------------------------------------------------ Head to the new location, X-Point (Xポイント). There are 6 enemies with around 600 HP each. The main problem is that they will heal themselves to full HP if you do not kill them. You can kill them all with about 17 P-Missiles, so they all die before they can heal. If you there are survivors from your missile barrage, cast Pack (パック), which prevents the enemies from using ESP, so that they can't heal themselves. After winning this battle, continue down the passage to find the Prism (プリズム). It will restore 3 HP to you every time you Jump in space, which will offset a little of the HP damage you take, especially as you accumulate more Boosters. G. Dark Airspace [sec6.ivg] With the Garumu Radar, you are able to go to more locations in the dark airspace, so head back through the Garumu Gate to get there. The dark space now looks like: ------------------------------------------------------------ Po--> O Ra--> O O O Garumu Fortress--> O O <--Battleship 2 O <--Imu ------------------------------------------------------------ There are two Garumu spaceships: the Battleship 2 (せんかん2) and the Garumu Fortress (ガルムようさい). There are also 3 new planets: Ra (ラー), Po (ポー), and Imu (イム). Ra is next to the stargate, so let's head there. It turns out that there is no shelter to explore on Ra, just sages with advice. Here is their dialogue: Sage 1 - "This is Pios' agricultural planet." Sage 2 - "The Garumu Battleship 2 send energy to the Garumu Fortress used to create a force field. If the Battleship 2 is not destroyed, you cannot attack the Garumu Fortress." Sage 3 - "The strongest of the Garumu Great Four, Gameringer, is at a stronghold on Po." Sage 4 - "Hey, did you know? There's a mysterious message entered on the Garumu Disk." Sage 5 - Restores HP/ESP. This is the only place to restore your HP/ESP in the dark airspace, so you will likely be here often. Are you ready to tackle the Battleship 2? If so, then make your way there. Boss: Battleship 2 As always, move into range. When you are close enough to attack, fire 20 to 30 P-Missiles to make short work of the battleship. With the Battleship 2 destroyed, you can now supposedly attack the Garumu Fortress. But if you try, you'll find that your weapons won't damage it, so we need another plan. We still haven't killed the final member of the Garumu Great Four. We know he's on Po. But there's also Imu to explore. You can do either one, but we'll go to Imu first, because it turns out you can upgrade your weapon. H. Imu [sec6.ivh] Surface sage dialogue: Sage 1 - "Yo, bro! Quite the company you keep, huh?! Weak!!" Sage 2 - "Welcome to Imu. Somewhere in this shelter is the Hyper Beam." Interior sage dialogue: Sage 1 - "The S-Shield has a cooling effect. One of the Garumu Great Four has it." Sage 2 - "There is a 1-Way on Zangu." Sage 3 - "There is a 3-Way in this shelter." Also on this planet are 2 Boosters and a 3-Way, so now both your team members can have a 3-Way. Pretty nice haul. I. Zangu [sec6.ivi] Remember how there was a door you couldn't destroy on Iburu. Well, now that you have the Hyper Beam, you can go through it. So go back to Iburu, go through that door (see the map in the Iburu section above), and get the Infrared Scope. Now you can see in the dark, and you will be able to explore Zangu. So head to Zangu. Surface sage dialogue: Sage 1 - "The Best Beam is in the shelter here. You can trade uranium for it." Sage 2 - "In this shelter are 3 wise Pios people. You should hear what they have to say." Sage 3 - "Without the Infrared Scope, you can't see very well inside this shelter." So don't use too much while traveling through the shelter. You won't need missiles for the fight, so you can use those freely if you like. It can be difficult to conserve your resources while trying to get to Gameringer. Make your way to him to kill the last of the Garumu Great Four. Boss: Gameringer (ガメリンガー) Gameringer is pretty easy for the most part. He has 2520 HP and does about 45 damage on a single character per turn. If you have 47 ESP or more, cast Power so that your beams can hit him for about 500 HP per turn. When his HP is around 400, he will erect a Reflect Barrier, at which point any weapon attacks will be reflected at your main character. During this time, Gameringer will only do about 5 HP damage per turn. The only way to damage Gameringer now is to use ESP. If you have 40 ESP or more, like I said, then you should be able to finish him off by having Rimi cast Spark two times. When you defeat Gameringer, you get the S-Shield (Sシールド). If you paid attention to the clues so far, you'll know that this item will allow you to land on the surface of Alpha. So head back through the Garumu Gate and go to Alpha. On the surface, go right a little ways and you'll come across Icarus (イカロス). This is supposedly the most powerful weapon in existence, so perhaps now you can attack the Garumu Fortress? You have to decide who to equip it with. Choose your main character since he always attacks first. K. Garumu Fortress [sec6.ivk] The Garumu Fortress is extremely difficult (unless you're using save states, to which I thumb my nose at you). You'll want to make sure you have your P-Missiles and Energy maxed out before tackling it, and be leveled up to the maximum level, 40. You have to be at least level 39 or else you can't win. When you're ready, head for the Garumu Fortress. Boss: Garumu Fortress Like all ship battles, move into range. When you're close enough to attack, select the Icarus (イカロス) option to attack with the Icarus. You will blow a hole in the outer wall of the spaceship. Mio tells you to enter the fortress through the hole, so select Enter (はいる) to do so. CO OD O OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOO OO O EO OOOOOO As you can see, the fortress is huge. There are no items to collect, just try to get to location "E" for the final boss. This is a difficult task since you be attacked frequently while traversing a large area. One advantage you have is the Icarus. You can use it during battle to inflict massive damage. However, you can only use it 8 more times, and to succeed, you will want at least 3 charges remaining for the 3 non-random encounters in front of location "C". Additionally, you MUST have at least 25 ESP remaining for the final boss battle. It is very difficult to survive this long trek while conserving these resources. It may take several tries. In the name of conservation, you will want to run from most battles. Although you rarely succed in escaping on your first run attempt, you almost always succeed on you second try. So, if you think you can take a round of damage from the attacking enemies without harming you healing resources too much, then run. If the attacking enemies will likely heavily damage you in one round, then you might want to use an Icarus charge to prevent that. Here, I list the enemies you will confront and my recommended strategies: Garubanboru (ガルバンゴル) - These are very common and have high HP, too high to attack, especially because they keep calling for backup. They are good to run from, even when there is a large number like 9 of them, because they miss often, and many will waste the first round by calling for reinforcements. So run. Garumesshu (ガルメッシュ) - Their HP is low, but their attack is very high (60 HP damage), so you don't want to run and allow them to inflict serious pain if you fail. Instead, attack. If there is a large number of them, use an Icarus to quickly finish them off. Garueba (ガルエバ) - They only have about 6 HP, but they're hard to hit with your beam. Instead, use one P-Missile to guarantee you hit and kill them in one turn. Garugarudo (ガルガルード) - These guys have a decent attack and call for backup. If there is only one of them, I use my beams to attack, but if there are 2 or more, you should probably run. Garu Padein (ガルパディン) - These have a decent attack and low HP. Take them out with your beam if their numbers are low, and if they are high, consider an Icarus. To travel faster to the end goal, go through one of the doors labeled "A" to skip ahead a bit to location "B". If you are fortunate enough to reach the non-random encounters in front of location "C" with 3 Icarus charges and at least 25 ESP, you are in good shape. The non-random encounters are Garubanboru. You need to take them out quickly so they don't call for backup, that's why I use an Icarus charge for each of these battles. The Icarus won't quite kill all of them, so have Blue shoot 4 P-Missiles or so to finish them off. When you make it through all 3 non-random encounters, head into the passageway at "C" and you'll come into the throne room. Continue forward to engage the final boss. Boss: Garujakka (ガルジャッカ) x3 There are three enemies here with about 1800 HP each, and they do about 15 HP damage on a single character per turn. Their attack is weak, but if you attack them, you do 5 HP damage at best. So how do we beat them? Well, remember the message that was saved on the Disk? It said, "When love at light intersect, the six legged demon will be destroyed." These guys clearly have six legs, so this must be the time to follow this clue. You can try the Pendant or the Prism, since they make sense with this clue, but nothing happens. Actually, all you have to do is use Rimi's Love (あい) ESP power. Their HP will instantly be reduced to 5 HP or so. Now it's easy to finish them off with some beam blasts. Believe it or not, that was the last boss. You beat the game! Now sit back and enjoy the long ending sequence in Japanese. Don't read Japanese very well? OK, then I translated the ending below for you, but don't peek unless you earned it. ********************************SPOILER ALERT!******************************* V. Ending [sec6.v] Below, the ending of the game is translated in full. Once again, let's pretend you named your main character Smith. Emperor Werai appears, sadenned by the loss of his great soldiers. He praises you for being able to come so far, but that you will die here. Blue gets angry and fires a beam blast at him, which directly hits, but has no effect. Werai says you would make excellent Garumu soldiers, but unfortunately it will never be so, so this is your end. He releases a powerful burst of ESP that hits you directly in the brain. Smith and Blue collapse in pain. Rimi telepathically calls to you. Rimi: Turn the pendant on him! It will repel his ESP power. Smith turns the pendant toward Werai. Werai: That pendant is my younger sister Rimi's! The emperor releases a violent burst of psy energy and the pendant is torn from your hand. It becomes engulfed in an ESP shield. Werai: That pendant is a Garumu anti-ESP weapon which can defeat any enemy by reflecting their ESP energy back at them. But now you have no hope. The pendant is engulfed in my 1000P psy power. To touch it would mean your death. Now, this time I will use my ESP to send you to hell! Werai releases fierce ESP power, and Smith and Blue once again collapse in pain. Smith: Rimi, what do I do? Rimi: Without the pendant, there's no way to save you. Blue: Crap! I am a soldier of Earth! Am I supposed to just hand over the planet I love to the Garumu? Blue jumps into the ESP shield engulfing the pendant. Blue is struck my the 1000P psy energy. With his last strength, he tosses the pendant to Smith, and then silently collapses. Blue: Smith, I leave the rest to you. I go to my final rest. Be happy with Rimi. Blue dies. Smith: Blue! The pendant, returned to Smith's hand, releases a brilliant light. Blue's dying wish has made the pendant's power grow even stronger. Smith points the pendant at the emperor, and Rimi concentrates to add her own power to it. Werai: Rimi, you are my younger sister! Why are you siding with the earthlings? Have you forgotten the hardships encountered during our people's travels? Rimi: I am a Garumu? With the emperor's bitter cry, Rimi's memory starts to return. Werai: You are the emperor's younger sister. If I am to die, then the Garumu will wish for you to inherit the throne. The pendant flies into the air, releasing a brilliant light, which drives the emperor to his death. ----------------------- With the loss of the emperor, the Garumu cease functioning and drift about in space. With an anxious heart, Smith heads toward Earth. Smith: Rimi is Garumu? It can't be. On Earth, just like that earlier time when the three of you were standing at the beach, Rimi is gazing into the night sky. Rimi: My memories have all returned. The 260 million lightyear voyage and its hardships. Can't I once again forget those memoris? But it won't do to forget. Rimi began explaining the Garumu Iron Law. Rimi: Our goal was to find a second planet for the Garumu. For this reason, it was thought that we should not be allowed to feel love for a human. The moment we feel love for a human, a Garumu virus will spring forth from our bodies. But in the end, I have fallen in love. Fate has determined that I will release the deadly Garumu virus. Very soon the Garumu virus will spring forth from my body and the Earth will become a star of death. Your fight with the Garumu is not yet over. With my death, the war will end. Rimi suddenly points a laser gun at Smith. Rimi: You are my older brother's enemy. I am the enemy of the people of Earth. To protect the Earth, take out your gun. Smith takes out his gun and readies his finger on the trigger. Smith: Rimi, I love you. Rimi: Me too, Smith. The sound of the laser blast echoes across the beach as the laser passes through Rimi's chest. The safety was set on Rimi's gun. From the beginning, she planned to die. Rimi and Blue, you will never be forgotten. *****************************END SPOILER ALERT**************************** - - - = = = ================== = = = - - - - - - = = = === Conclusion === = = = - - - - - - = = = ================== = = = - - - I hope you found this guide useful.
