Mother/Earthbound Beginnings FAQ/Walkthrough Copyright Nintendo 1989 Written By Brian P. Sulpher E-mail: briansulpher@hotmail.com Version 1.0 Dates Written: August 23rd to October 11th, 2007 Dedicated to my brother Danny. You loved the SNES Earthbound game and I recently set out to beat this one, recalling the time we first played this back in 2000. This one is for you, as maybe you will find the time to finally play through this one and beat the game outright. Also, for Cougar, Howler, Koonce, and Gracey. I miss you, and I hope you are living it up in the afterlife as you did in this world. You will always be in my memories, and you will never be forgotten. If you enjoy this FAQ and want to give back, you can click the Donate button by my author name above, and send some money my way (via Paypal). I have no set amount or minimum, so feel free to donate as little as you like (this is simply a from the bottom of your heart deal). Thanks for your consideration, now on with the FAQ! ----------- Version 1.0 ----------- -Submitted FAQ on October 11th, 2007 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------Table Of Contents------------------------------ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) Introduction 2) Controls 3) Characters 4) Walkthrough 5) Weapons 6) Armors 7) Items 8) Food 9) PSI 10)Enemies 11)Bosses 12)Status Ailments 13)Final Word ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------Introduction------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) The following is the story of the game, and is in no way the work of Brian P. Sulpher. In the early 1900's, a dark shadow covered a small country town in rural America. At that time, a young married couple vanished mysteriously from their home. The man's name was George, the woman's name was Maria. Two years later, as suddenly as he left, George returned. He never told anyone where he had been or what he had done. But, he began an odd study, all by himself. As for Maria, his wife... She never returned. 80 Years have passed since then. A young boy wakes up in the middle of the night and begins an odyssey... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------------Controls--------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) This section will look at the controls for field situations and in battle situations. o------------------o | Field Situations | o------------------o D-Pad : Moves your characters around. A Button : Confirms selection. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------Characters--------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) This section will give a quick look into the characters that dot the adventure that Ninten is about to embark upon. o-----------------o | Main Characters | o-----------------o ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ Ninten ~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~ The main character of the game, he is an average boy who suffers from asthma attacks until one day he wakes up in the middle of the night and discovers that an eerie force is attacking his house. Ninten is a well-rounded character, able to use both physical attacks and PSI spells with great ability. ~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ Loid ~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~ A student at Twinkle Elementary in Merrysville, Loid has low self-esteem and feels he is of little worth. Though weaker than Ninten and lacking in PSI ability, Loid is able to make use of explosives and specialized weaponry, which makes him a unique character and highly useful. ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ Ana ~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ A girl from a remote town of Snowman, she has long been acclaimed as a user of PSI, and she is indeed the most accomplished of the part in PSI abilities. She is by far the weakest member physically though, so she should never be allowed to become damaged too much. ~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ Teddy ~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~ An angry young man, Teddy is out to become strong enough to avenge his parents, who were killed by malicious creatures. Teddy is easily the most powerful character physically, and since he lacks PSI, his contribution is to beat down any foes foolish enough to challenge the party. o-----------------------o | Supporting Characters | o-----------------------o ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ Mom ~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ Ninten's Mother will feed the group Ninten's favourite food to refill their Hit Points and PSI Points. She will be a continual source of help throughout the game. ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ Dad ~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ Ninten's Father will never appear physically in the game, but he will talk to Ninten over the phone, saving his progress, cashing his money won from enemies, and telling the team how much more experience is needed to gain a level. You will speak to him on many occasions through out the game. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ Mimmie ~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ninten's youngest sister, Mimmie does not really do anything of use, but she is pretty cute for a young one. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ Minnie ~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ninten's sister Minnie store Items that Ninten and friends do not want, opening up more inventory space. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ Mayor Of Podunk ~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This seedy politician will let a small child risk his own life to advance the game, but he will also take the credit whenever Ninten accomplishes a tough task. ~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ Pippy ~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~ This neighbour to the south of Ninten's house has gone missing, and she was last seen in the graveyard. Later on in the game she will cross Ninten's path once more, offering help in a tough area of the game. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ Queen Mary ~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The ruler of Magicant, she seems to be slightly unbalanced and put off about something that has happened to her in the past. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ Flying Man ~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Found in Magicant, these brave warriors will accompany Ninten to lend their strength. ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ EVE ~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ A massively strong robot created by George for the purpose of assisting Ninten, she will supply two very key assists to the party. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------Walkthrough--------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) This section will have the step-by-step method for getting through the game. o-----------------------------------o | Things That Go Bump In The Night! | o-----------------------------------o Ninten will be sitting in his chair by his lamp ("Old Lampy, my most trusted furnishing!") before he starts out the door of his room, at which point the Lamp will attack ("it is SO not getting a Christmas card this year!)! ~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ Lamp ~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~ H.P.: 6 Exp.: 1 $$$$: 0 This is the first battle in the game, so of course it stands to reason that with no Items, no PSI abilities, and only his bare hands, that Ninten needs to beat the Lamp back to inertness with the Fight command. Afterwards, Ninten should go into the hallway, entering the first door to find his sister Mimmie under attack, by a very similar Lamp to the one that Ninten was accosted by (so use the same strategy to defeat it). Exit her room and go down the hall to Ninten's other sister's room (this would be Minnie), stepping past the terrified youngster, engaging her violently shaking Doll in battle! ~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ Doll ~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~ H.P.: 12 Exp.: 10 $$$$: 50 A bit of a step up from the Lamp, the Doll is still pretty weak, and it requires the same strategy of attack, attack, attack to take the victory! After the porcelain doll dusting, talking to Minnie will have her ask Ninten to CHECK (cap locks much? OOOOOH! BIG CLUE THERE!) the doll to find something that is hidden, which so happens to be a music box, and Ninten will remember the tune. Seriously, he does just that (press SELECT and see the first musical note in the bottom left corner), and this is just the beginning of his journey! Note that Minnie will give Ninten free Orange Juices, so feel free to stock up on what she is offering, as this generosity from a sibling (as in real life) is rather short lived. Head downstairs to speak to your mother, followed by answering the phone to speak to your absentee father. SO Ninten must stop this problem by using the musings of his Great Grand Father, save the family, and check in on them, though he must remember that with great power comes great responsibility... or something like that. So with that blatant example of a father dumping all family responsibility onto a child, Ninten should go outside, making a beeline for his dog that is in the yard. Despite the very scary innuendo (CHECK me out!), the cap locks CHECK indicates that Ninten should use that very command, locating the misplaced Basement Key on the collar of the dog! Head back inside and go into said basement (where Rats can attack Ninten periodically), locating GGF's Diary, Plastic Bat (choose USE and select it to make Ninten equip it), and open the final gift box to get some Bread. o-----------------------------------o | Baby Steps, Friend... Baby Steps | o-----------------------------------o With all of that done, it is time to head outside, sticking close to home, running around to get into random encounters (be especially wary of Wally and Hippie enemies, as they can really build their power up by flying into a rage), fighting foes to gain some valuable Experience and to put money into the bank (which can be accessed only at certain times). Raising levels is an evil necessity in this (and most other RPG's), so raise them at least two levels (though go higher if you feel the tougher foes are still beating on Ninten, making sure he has gained access to LifeUp alpha before going onwards. Also note that your Mom will feed you your favourite food whenever you are running low on Hit Points, so abuse the free refill as much as necessary to make the job of grinding some experience that much easier (this can be done right to the end of the game, so use it as much as you like). When this is done, it is time to trek southward towards town, so head east and south along the pathway, crossing a bridge, running into a frantic mother who has lost a child! She says her dear Pippi has gone missing (though with a crazy mother like that, who could really blame her) and requests that Ninten talk to the Mayor of Podunk about it, like the police are not a better option or that the Mayor is likely too busy to see some odd kid in a red cap at a moment's notice. Continue south and southwest along the pathway, arriving at Podunk! o-----------------------------o | Podunk? Sounds About Right | o-----------------------------o Welcome to the bustling town of Podunk, USA! First off, any door that is rounded or has a sign by it, can be entered, so keep that in mind from here on out. Anyway, chat with the townsfolk, finding out various things (like the Podunk Zoo running wild, Canary Village with a singing Canary, and the Zombies in the Cemetery to the south), all the while being wary as some of those same townsfolk are actually a PseudoZombi in disguise (typically found in the southern most reaches of the town)! When the town run around is done, head for the Department Store, visiting the ATM for your monetary needs, perusing the following floors of shops as well as a Food Place on the same street: =============== Floor 2 - Drugs =============== ________________ _______ _______________________ | Name | Price | Use | |________________|_______|_______________________| | Antidote | 20 |Cures poison | |________________|_______|_______________________| | Asthma Spray | 148 |Cures Asthma for Ninten| |________________|_______|_______________________| | LifeUp Cream | 194 |Completely refills HP | |________________|_______|_______________________| | Insecticide | 300 |Damages bug foes fairly| | | |effectively | |________________|_______|_______________________| ====================== Floor 3 - Sports Goods ====================== ________________ _________ _______ _______________ | Name | Power | Price | Description | |________________|_________|_______|_______________| | | | |Ninten's | | | | |weakest weapon,| | Plastic Bat | 3 | 80 |upgrade to a | | | | |better one soon| |________________|_________|_______|_______________| | | | |A better bat, | | Wooden Bat | 12 | 500 |it deals decent| | | | |damage to foes | |________________|_________|_______|_______________| | | | |Weak weapon, | | Slingshot | 7 | 120 |not worth using| | | | |for battle | |________________|_________|_______|_______________| =============== Floor 4 - Foods =============== ________________ _______ _______________________ | Name | Price | Use | |________________|_______|_______________________| | Orange Juice | 5 |Restores around 10 HP | |________________|_______|_______________________| | | |Restores around 20 HP | | Bread | 30 |creates crumbs in | | | |dungeons to track paths| |________________|_______|_______________________| | Sports Drink | 75 |Restores around 100 HP | |________________|_______|_______________________| ============= Floor 5 - Pet ============= ________________ _______ _______________________ | Name | Price | Use | |________________|_______|_______________________| | Canary Chick | 85 |Return it to the | | |or free|sad Canary for a melody| |________________|_______|_______________________| ========== Food Store ========== ________________ _______ _______________________ | Name | Price | Use | |________________|_______|_______________________| | Orange Juice | 5 |Restores around 10 HP | |________________|_______|_______________________| | French Fries | 15 |Restores around 20 HP | |________________|_______|_______________________| | Hamburger | 25 |Restores around 50 HP | |________________|_______|_______________________| With all of this tripping done, two very important Items exist for purchase, a Wooden Bat for $500 (this is a must for the nasty foes that lie ahead) as well as the Canary Chick from the Pet section on Floor 5. Although it costs $85, you can get it for free by refusing his price (say YES to buying it, then no to $85). With the Canary Chick in hand, it is time to go west down the street, entering the Town Hall (the door with the sign), going upstairs to speak to the Mayor, agreeing to help him with the missing child problem (as he is up for re-election soon), which will set the stage for the next two quests for Ninten! o------------------------------------------o | Canaries and Zombies... Nice Combination | o------------------------------------------o With the town run around all taken care of, Ninten can now go return to the Canary Chick to the Canary Village that lies to the northwest of town. From the Mayor's office, run off to the northern part of town, turning west at the town sign. Follow the path past the sign and to the bank of a river, continuing along a western route, turning north to go between two bodies of water, going west across the bridge to find a large brick wall. This is the eastern border of the Canary Village Wildlife Refuge (which the Canaries seem to abide by, despite them being wild animals), so follow the southern wall until an opening in the wall appears. Head north along the eastern wall area, turning west once the monolithic architecture appears, looking for an off-coloured tower. Walk in behind that aforementioned grey tower, walking straight up through the covered opening in the wall, and speak to the Canary here to realize it is... Laura. That is all it has to say... You would think that a talking Canary would have more to say, or be better protected, or out on tour making some money for some enterprising town official or poacher or... Okay, sorry, moving on here. So, use the Canary Chick by Laura The Canary to get her so excited that she will Sing, which Ninten will remember, gaining himself the second Melody of the game! Ninten must now wander back through the Canary Village, returning to Podunk, where he should stock up on HP replenishing Items (if desired) and raising his levels to 5 or 6, as he is about to embark on a very dangerous journey into the Podunk Cemetery! Head along the path that goes south out of town, running down the diagonal dirt way to reach a turn, where a sign sits declaring that "Healer's House WEST" and that "Beyond Bridge Cemetery Abandon all hope ye who enter!". Wow, that is rather comforting to read... you head out to the cemetery to see the grave of a loved one and are told that hope does not live here, you best not go anywhere near this area. Phenomenal. If you feel like paying the Healer, you will need some cash on hand (specifically $18) to get the PP refill, though the real use of the shack is the free use telephone in the corner, so save with your dad before entering the dangerous area of the cemetery. When ready to enter, go to the same sign as before, this time going across the bridge to go right to go down through the green trees, soon running into a large patch of dead trees. Continue along the downward trajectory (taking the fork on the right), arriving at the cemetery wall, turning left. Head through the opening to spot a small chapel, but ignore it and go down to find another wall, going right this time. When the wall move south, turn south with Ninten, looking out for the trees to start moving east, which is the signal for Ninten to turn east as well. Slalom through the gravestones to reach the small opening between graves and the nearby wall, moving northwest as Ninten walks over more graves, reaching a section of tombs where the monuments are tall towers. However, the goal for the hero is the broken off tower, entering the small hole that remains to find a large underground tomb. Run down the stairs and go through the door, arriving in a room with four coffins, all of which are shuddering in place! The three coffins closest to the door all contain PseudoZombis, so open at your own peril (good experience for doing so however), but to find Pippi, open the one that lies on the extreme left, allowing the strange girl to come flying out to join Ninten and help his cause! o-------------------------------------------o | A Day At The Zoo... Should Be Fun, Right? | o-------------------------------------------o Head back up the stairs and then exit the tomb, backtracking through the cemetery and paths to get back to the sign of doom and gloom that is near the bridges. Ninten now has a choice to make, as he can only advance the plot by returning Pippi to the Mayor's Office, but he can use her and her quickly building stats as a second body for fighting some tougher foes, helping gain Ninten some extra experience. To advance the plot, visit the Mayor (skip to the next paragraph), but to make use of Pippi and her strong abilities, keep reading onwards. Go back through town, heading northwest to go past the Canary Village (you should pass a sign that says the Zoo is ahead), and keep on going until strong animals begin to attack. Fight here with Pippi to assist Ninten, as she can add damage AND take some damage, which will allow for longer times without revisiting home/town to refill Hit Points/PSI Points and it will also offset the loss of experience to Pippi as more Experience will be gained than if Ninten fought solo (he spends a lot of time running back and forth when solo). Ideally, if you do this, when Ninten reaches Level 8 he should be strong enough to go it alone, and the split experience will take too long to add up by that point anyway. When ready to move on with the game, go visit the Mayor with Pippi in tow, presenting her to the Mayor, who will be so overjoyed at this coup for his upcoming election chances, that he will give Ninten 100 Hundred Dollars, which is a pittance considering Ninten went into the cemetery (as an EIGHT YEAR OLD boy) to do rescue work that the Police should have been doing (where are the Police anyway? We shall soon see)! So anyway, say yes to the request from the Mayor to check out the Zoo, and he will give Ninten the Zoo Key (via his assistant). Before heading to the Zoo (or returning if you were leveling up there previously), head back to home to refill Ninten's Hit Points and PSI Points, stopping at Pippi's house to find the red-headed wanderer waiting outside. Speak to her to begin a game of yes/no questions, so answer the following: No, Yes. With Pippi sufficiently impressed with Ninten, she will hand over a FranklnBdge (FranklinBadge), which will reflect any PK Beam gamma attacks back at the enemy! Yes, for saving her life (when she gets herself into bad spots), she will give up a form of protection that might keep her silly ass alive! Make sure to visit your Mom for a free refill, then get ready for the next stretch of the journey. Head back towards town, heading west at the sign for Canary Village. Follow the path along to reach the eastern border of Canary Village, but keep going north to find another sign, crossing the bridge to keep moving north, where Ninten will soon find the gates of the Zoo, with the crazed animals running wild and attacking Ninten. Walk up to the gate, where a Monkey lies in wait, and it takes the Zoo Key! OH NO! That is it... Ninten is finished on his quest... all because of a kleptomaniac monkey! WHY!? Oh, the gate so happens to have a broken lock... my bad. Head on inside the Zoo, heading west briefly, going north through the opening above Ninten, running past the rabbits (who are still in their cages) and two broken cages. Go right to cut between the monkey and panda cages, going south along the tree line to enter into a new portion of the Zoo. Head north through this part, zooming by two broken cages and a flamingo habitat, spotting a big poster on a cage, proclaiming about the one of a kind singing monkey! Since the monkey is missing, keep on going, heading south through the next section, arriving at a large building, which so happens to be the Superintendent’s Office (and boy does Ninten have a long list of critiques for how this Zoo is being run!). Enter the first room to find a Gift Box with Rope inside, and the door to the left of that room has a Gift Box as well, which holds Antidote. Take the stairs to the next floor, where the door on the right holds a Gift Box (inside of which is Bread), so grab it and then go up the stairs to the third floor. Enter the door on the right to grab a LifeUpCream from the Gift Box, followed by entering the door on the left, where an odd capsule floats in the air. Walk over to it to check it out, at which point the capsule will suddenly open and reveal a strange foe! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ Starman Jr. ~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ H.P.: 52 Exp.: 30 $$$$: 5 This out of this world opponent has a unique shape and he likes to make use of Beam attacks in addition to his regular attacks. Although his regular attack can deal decent damage (around 20 Hit Points per attack), his PK Beam alpha attack will take off about 30 Hit Points per shot, and PK Beam gamma will kill Ninten in one shot! However, if Ninten is holding the Franklin Badge when this attack comes, it will reflect and kill the foe in one shot! To defeat this foe, enter the fight with full Hit Points, then keep on attacking each round, only stopping to use LifeUp alpha when the Hit Points of Ninten reach 35 or less, though using a LifeUpCream (that was found just prior to this fight) when the Hit Points get desperately low is advisable as well. Keep landing hits when possible, and the Starman Jr. will soon go down for the 10 count! o--------------------------------------------------o | Civic Duty Fulfilled, Time To Pass the Roadblock | o--------------------------------------------------o With the unsettling alien presence removed from the Zoo, no more attacks will occur, so why not take some time to take in the sights? The highlight of this free Zoo tour will be to check out the Singing Monkey (check the sign) to hear it sing, as this will be the third melody of the game! Continue on out of the Zoo and go southeast (past Canary Village), landing back in town. Head for the Mayor's Office once again, telling him of your daring deeds, and the soulless creature that he is, he will dismiss you and not give your plight a second thought (typical politician, has what he needs and forgets who helps him out). SO it is time to go back home to get a quick refill and save the game, followed by returning to town once more, but this time head east along the path by the houses (head south once when the road dips), taking the next northern road back out of town. Move along the roadway, following it as it goes along the river, continuing along the windy way, finally reaching a sign that says the City Zoo is to the west. Head east along the path instead, crossing a bridge and continuing onwards, reaching a second bridge soon, which has two policemen guarding it. Now if you already came out earlier, you know they are guarding something out here, yet it seems to be in the middle of nowhere. Of course, no one in their right mind (except for you) would ever come out this far, so they should have been at home in Podunk, rescuing Pippy, or maybe help get the Zoo back under control (though to be fair, that was an alien creature behind that, and they likely could not have helped enough on that to be really useful). Right, so they lift the curfew, mention your PSI abilities and how they might help you out (do not worry, if they were psychic, they would know that I was shooting mental daggers at them for making me rescue Pippy and retake the zoo singlehandedly), followed by tipping you about a "strange, rock-like thing" in a cave ahead. So with that force feeding of information done, go along the grassy area ahead, moving east and then south, arriving at the mysterious cave. Once inside, follow the straight forward path, locating a pink rock spiral, and checking it will reveal that a voice is speaking into Ninten's mind. Use Telepathy to be asked an odd riddle, to which Ninten will answer with an even odder answer, whisking him away to another place! o-----------------------------------------------o | Magicant... Odd? Disturbing? Unbelievable! | o-----------------------------------------------o Ninten will appear to see a swimming cat to the right (lying in a pond) who has Candy for a small child, though it must only want one small child as he refuses to give it to Ninten (what a jerk). Go left across the bridge, cutting downwards past the two pink doored spiral buildings, reaching a large wall of white spirals, at which point Ninten should go left to enter the lone building. Say yes to wanting the Big Bag (it sounds dirty, but the being is not going to do something that will haunt you for years to come), trading your Cash Card for it, then speak to him again, getting the Cash Card back. The Big Bag holds a lot of Magic Herbs, acting as a perfect way to heal Ninten as he adventures onwards. Exit the building to go up into the building above that one, where the Mysterious Mimicker will save you game by pretending to be a phone (what part of the body is Ninten talking into for this to work? Never mind, I do not want to know), while the two building to the right can be skipped if you like and instead go upwards to the green doored spiral building, where the Mysterious Goods Keeper can store things for Ninten, making sure that his sister Minnie gets the Items he hands over (very useful). Walk past the next two buildings to find a trio of buildings, walking down and right from it to a solo building, receiving an Ocarina from the occupant (mind you, it has no apparent use that I or anybody else can determine, but hey you got it so WAY TO GO!). Walk up form this building to find a new trio of buildings, entering the one on the far right, saying yes to fixing the spoon for the small one, and Ninten can then use this building as a free refill by spending the night whenever he wants (though the little person is SOOOOOOO needy and has to have Ninten come back, it is rather uncomfortable to do so)! Head up and to the left find three buildings, with the center one being a hospital and the one on the right being an inn (a second place to stay the night... weird), with the three buildings to the right all containing shops. However, since Ninten is not likely to have much or any Cash on him, he must first journey out of the town to find the Magic Fountain, as that is where he can get access to his bank account. A note before venturing outside the walls of Magicant, if the enemy Groucho is encountered, do nothing but Guard every round, as Groucho will soon leave battle after saying "Hello", and he will leave behind far more Experience for Ninten than he ever would if defeated in battle (odd I know, but take advantage of this generosity). Go out of town through the opening that lies nearby, but do not follow the pathway laid out by the white spirals, instead running along a northwest pathway (cutting through the various weeds on the ground), looking for a bridge to cross, arriving at the Magic Fountain. It can be used in a myriad of ways, including: i) refills Hit Points. ii) Red Weed can be changed to Magic Herb. iii) Use Telepathy to call the Benevolent Old Man, who acts like an ATM. Grab all of your available money, and backtrack to town (southwest trajectory), aiming for the three buildings marked with "7". Each building is a shop, with the following wares for sale: ============= Left Building ============= __________________ _________ _______ _______________ | Name | Defense | Price | Description | |__________________|_________|_______|_______________| | Magic Herb | XX | 30 |Restores about | | | | |30 HP | |__________________|_________|_______|_______________| | Peace Coin | 5 | 260 |An okay defense| |__________________|_________|_______|_______________| | Protect Coin | 11 | 648 |A fair defense | |__________________|_________|_______|_______________| | Magic Coin | 20 | 1200 |A great defense| |__________________|_________|_______|_______________| =============== Center Building =============== __________________ _________ _______ _______________ | Name | Defense | Price | Description | |__________________|_________|_______|_______________| | Magic Herb | XX | 30 |Restores about | | | | |30 HP | |__________________|_________|_______|_______________| | Brass Ring | 8 | 460 |An okay defense| |__________________|_________|_______|_______________| | Silver Ring | 14 | 825 |A fair defense | |__________________|_________|_______|_______________| | Gold Ring | 28 | 1510 |A great defense| |__________________|_________|_______|_______________| ============== Right Building ============== __________________ _________ _______ _______________ | Name | Defense | Price | Description | |__________________|_________|_______|_______________| | | | |Keeps weak foes| | Repel Ring | 0 | 160 |away for a bit | |__________________|_________|_______|_______________| | | | |Lessens fire | | H20 Pendant | 0 | 700 |damage by half | |__________________|_________|_______|_______________| | | | |Lessens ice | | Fire Pendant | 0 | 700 |damage by half | |__________________|_________|_______|_______________| | | | |Lessens thunder| | Earth Pendant | 0 | 700 |damage by half | |__________________|_________|_______|_______________| The Items are fairly expensive, but you should be able to buy the most expensive Ring OR Coin, leaving enough to likely get a Pendant. Which Pendant you get is completely up to you, but I personally like the H20 Pendant, as fire foes can really rake the Hit Points down in a hurry (and they seem to be slightly more numerous than thunder or ice attacks). If you so desire, you can grind some foes for more cash to get the best defensive equipment for Ninten (do not buy inferior Coins/Rings, as it is a waste of hard earned money), but either way it is time to go back outside the walls of the town, as some more exploration should be carried out. Go back to the gate and head west along the wall, following it south past a normal monkey (of course they do not sing, but they can talk!), a small girl by some trees, and then head northwest through the opening in the trees to find a swimming cat... that backstrokes through the ground! When questioned by Ninten it even identifies itself as such, and once you get over that it tantalizes you by saying "guess what is in my hand" (it does not have hands, but all right) and promptly tells you nothing (sort of like that other swimming cat earlier, you will have to come back later). Continue up the path to find a hermit in a lone building, and he says he has a great secret for Ninten... once he becomes stronger! Then to really get you, he says to write it down (which means it might be very important), and then clams up! So basically, this entire paragraph was nothing more than an exercise in "sorry, come back later and maybe I will help you then!". How lovely. Continuing on with the exploration of the monster infested portions of Magicant, go back up to the main field north of Magicant, running to the northeast along the white spirals, reaching the gates of the castle. However, go east and then northeast along the white spiral walls, going directly north when the walls turn west, spotting a building to enter, which houses the five Flying Men! These feisty fellows will immediately join Ninten to assist him in battle, though only one at a time, and they are not controllable in battle. They also can not be directly healed by Ninten with PSI or Items, though using the fountain or staying at one of the two places in town will heal them. With everything explored now, it is time to go see Queen Mary in the castle, so wander around the walls of the castle again, getting to the entrance, where the central guard will let Ninten pass, provided he can answer the riddle he has, but he does not state it! So to cheat this rather unfair quiz master, use Telepathy on him to find out the answer, and he will grant Ninten access! Inside the castle now, head left and bypass the first door (though go into it and talk to the fellows for some very neat backstory on Queen Mary), entering the next door. Go into the door on the right, speaking to Queen Mary herself, learning that her song she can not sing is 8 notes long, and if Ninten learns it, he should return to her! Well, Ninten already has 3 notes under his belt, so he knows he only needs five more and he also knows what they are for! Exit the throne room and go through the other door on the wall, finding two more doors in the next room, with the door on the right holding three Gift Boxes (holding, from left to right: Flashdark, Antidote, Magic Herb) and the door in the center leading to four Gift Boxes (holding, from left to right, top row then bottom: Bullhorn, Magic Herb, Antidote, Empty), and the door on the left leading to a room with six Gift Boxes, but when the first present is removed, the rest of the Gift Boxes magically empty! So, to make your decision of what item you desire, use the following chart of the Gift Boxes to decide: ___________________ Key | | 01 - Boomerang | 02 - PSI Stone | 03 - Fight Capsule | 04 - Rope | 05 - Ruler | 06 - Berry Tofu | | ___________________| ______________________ / |01|02|03| \ / |__|__|__| \ / \ / \DOOR / \ / \ / \ / __ __ __ \ / |04|05|06| \ /______________|__|__|__|________________\ Although both the PSI Stone and Fight Capsule are both highly useful, the best way to go is with the Boomerang, as it increases the attack power of Ninten, making him more able to pound foes effectively. With everything finally explored and south out, it is time to exit Magicant and return to the real world! o-------------------------------------------------o | It Is Not Good-Bye Magicant, More See You Later | o-------------------------------------------------o Head back into town to repair any battle damage, maybe buy that last piece of strongest Armor for Ninten, and then go to the gate of town to begin the journey out of here. Head east along the border of town, continuing east above the treeline while looking for a bridge across the river. Head south from the spot just to the left of the lone well, walking directly downward towards an entire field of wells, entering into the only real one, which is the entrance to the Magicant Cave! The first portion of the cave is a big maze, with only one way through to the next area, but before going there Ninten can grab some treasure. Take the following openings in the rooms to find a Gift Box that holds a Magic Herb by going right, right, left. Now backtrack up two ladders, taking two lefts and then a right to exit this area (from the start it is right, left, left, right). Head along the wide corridors ahead, taking note of a massive dragon on the right side of the screen, turning to the right to open a Gift Box for a PSI Stone, followed by going upwards to arrive at a fork in the paths. Going to the left will accomplish nothing for now, as the Dragon is not going to be woken up by Ninten's current Psychic Power, so take the path on the right, running into a hatch that leads deeper into the caves. However, when Ninten draws near, a foe will attack! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ The Fish ~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ H.P.: 65 Exp.: 140 $$$$: 180 The Fish is just bit a stronger and tougher than the average foes that Ninten has been facing in and around Magicant, but he should still prove to be no match for the Psychic Kid. Attack away on him repeatedly, only pausing to heal if Ninten's Hit points drop lower than 25. This fight should end in two or three rounds, and should be of little to no trouble what so ever. Head down the hole he was guarding to discover a Gift Box, this one holding a one of a kind Item called the Onyx Hook (when used, it will whisk Ninten back to Magicant at any time, making it a great option when Ninten is really hurt). Head back up to the previous area, continuing along, opening the next Gift Box to get a Sword (though Ninten can not use it, so dump it on his sister at the first opportunity), followed by advancing once more, arriving at a door blocked by the Forgotten Man. He seems to define himself as a forgotten fellow, so pester him and answer the following way to get him to disappear: no, yes. With him gone, pass through the door to be returned to the real world! o------------------------------------o | The Weakling; Friendship & An Ally | o------------------------------------o Ninten appears in a cave much like the one he arrived in Magicant from, but this is in a different locale. Head out of the cave to catch sight of a big factory to the south, but before bothering to explore it, Ninten should head north. Move north along the escarpment, looking for a pass down to the lower valley floor, at which point Ninten should start out to the north once more. Ninten will quickly arrive on the paved streets of Merrysville, with a gleaming building directly ahead, so move right on inside, entering Twinkle Elementary School! Feel free to converse with the children of the school (though avoid the girl in the library that has the Cold, as it will require a visit to the Doctor to cure), but to get the move on head up to the second floor, entering the second door from the right, locating two Gift Boxes (holding a Slingshot and a Plastic Bat), followed by going up towards the roof (staircase on right side of the second floor) to find that the door is locked. Backtrack down to the first floor, entering the door on the far right side of the floor, locating the Janitor (who has some serious issues he should talk over with his wife). Talk to him, answering yes, yes, no, yes to get the Janitor to go unlock the door (hold the B Button down to make him move faster than his plodding walk), allowing Ninten onto the roof. Here Ninten will see a nice view (including an ominous mountain in the distance.... OOOO FORESHADOWING!), but his main job here is to talk to the shaking garbage can, saying yes to his question, making the kid pop out of hiding. He wants nothing more than to shoot some Bottle Rockets off from the Sweet's Little Factory, so Ninten has a new objective to complete (Since he is needed for the game, help the guy out)! However, before going south to the factory Ninten saw earlier, he should first check out the town. Ninten can get a free Phone Card (good for 50 calls on payphones) by finding the man in blue near the side of the Department Store and answering his questionnaire. Since Ninten is there, stop into the Food Store and Department Store to see what wares are up for sale: =============== Floor 2 - Drugs =============== ________________ _______ _______________________ | Name | Price | Use | |________________|_______|_______________________| | Antidote | 20 |Cures poison | |________________|_______|_______________________| | Asthma Spray | 148 |Cures Asthma for Ninten| |________________|_______|_______________________| | LifeUp Cream | 194 |Completely refills HP | |________________|_______|_______________________| | Insecticide | 300 |Damages bug foes fairly| | | |effectively | |________________|_______|_______________________| ====================== Floor 3 - Sports Goods ====================== ________________ _________ _______ _______________ | Name | Power | Price | Description | |________________|_________|_______|_______________| | | | |A better bat, | | Wooden Bat | 12 | 500 |it deals decent| | | | |damage to foes | |________________|_________|_______|_______________| | | | |PING! Finally, it may be a bit of a sidetrip, but heading east out of town and over to Podunk to go home, visiting your sister to drop in any Items that are not a necessity to have right now (GGF Diary and Basement Key are two possibilities, though keep the Onyx Hook as a safety net), opening some inventory for the trip. When ready to go, head to Twinkle Elementary and go south through that valley that brought Ninten to town, continuing on past the pass that brought Ninten down from the escarpment, heading down to go around the front of the Sweet's Little Factory, passing through the door to find a massive job ahead of Ninten! Sweet's Little Factory is fairly confusing, but the enemies are mostly just Rats (pathetic) and the odd Barbot (the majority of which will not survive through one round of fighting), so it should prove to be a long but not too difficult of a trek. Run left and follow the wall as it slopes upwards, continuing to the left to find a room with a Magic Herb in a Gift Box. Leave the room and keep going along the wall, following it to another door, where a Butter Knife is held in a Gift Box (a weak weapon for a member later, so best to skip it most likely), followed by going down the nearby ladder. This area has a door to the right (Antidote inside) of the ladder, and three doors to the left of the ladder (second door has Physical Capsule and LifeUpCream inside, while the third door holds a Magic Herb), so grab what you desire and then go back up the ladder. Go left along the rail and follow it until a door is reached (Rope inside), looping around the wall to find a second door (holds a Magic Herb), and a third door (nothing inside). Keep following the wall to find a ladder, climbing up to the next level of the factory. Go left to the very end, grabbing the Fight Capsule from the door before backtracking, getting a Magic Herb from the door that is above the ladder, allowing Ninten to go to the furthest reaches on the right (ignore the ladder for now), reaching a door that holds an Antidote. Return to that ladder was just passed by, climbing upwards to turn right and follow the railing all the way to another door (this one has a Quick Capsule inside). Backtrack to the ladder once more, but pass right on by it and keep running to the left, eventually reaching a garbage can by a door. Search the garbage can to locate a Bottle Rocket, noting that the supply in this trash receptacle is never ending. Yes, if only it worked with food, then world hunger would be solved, but instead it is a creation meant for destruction and not something truly helpful, so too damn bad. The door to the left holds a Plastic Bat and a Magic Herb, so grab them if desired, then backtrack to the entrance and make your escape. Head north through the valley, heading right into Twinkly Elementary School, beelining for the rooftop, and Ninten can then give the Bottle Rocket to Loid. He will lead Ninten to the lab, where he will attempt to create more Bottle Rockets, which ends in a manner that would kill kids in real life, but luckily it just results in a huge mess and a rather funny silence afterwards! Congratulations, you now have a second member to the team! o-----------------------------------o | He IS a Weakling... Time To Train | o-----------------------------------o Although Loid mentioned Duncan's Factory (due to his obvious obsession with blowing things up further elevated by his rampant destruction of the classroom), first thing to do is to use the Onyx Hook and go back to Magicant. Why do this? Well, the enemies are a tad weaker, making them easier to handle, but more importantly is that Ninten can proceed to purchase a Magic Coin, a Gold Ring, and one H20 Pendant (this is a MUST for the next area, and is the most useful one of the three overall for the entire game) for Loid, as that will get him properly outfitted. Also be sure to stop in and speak to the swimming cat that is right by the area where the two of them appear, as it holds Magic Candy, which will raise Loid's Fight statistic by 5. Once he is properly outfitted (and gained a few levels), it is safe enough to use the foes around Merrysville to train against, as they yield slightly better Experience and Cash. Make sure to buy Loid a Boomerang (or just give him the one Ninten has, and buy an Aluminum Bat instead), as he needs to be able to deal some damage. Just be wary of the vehicles, as they can give Ninten an Asthma attack at any point, which can really handicap the team in any battle. Finally, if desired, head back to the Sweet's Little Factory and go to the crazy garbage can, as Loid can stockpile Bottle Rockets for the fights ahead, as they reasonable damage to enemies. o------------------------------------o | Factory Tours... This One Is HUGE! | o------------------------------------o Back in Merrysville, head northeast out of town and once the train tracks are reached, head northwest along them, looking for a blockade of boulders. Head west from here, going through the narrow valley (ignoring the odd fact of cars and transport trucks ripping it up on the grassy areas), turning north when the river appears. When a narrow passage up onto the higher ground appears, Ninten will locate the Pass on the ground (thanks to some careless individual, it will be easy to get in!). Continue along the northern path, turning east to arrive at a factory. The guard dog at the entrance will not take a liking to the Pass however, and he will attack (oh CRUEL IRONY!) However, it is simply a Stray Dog, so pound it with one hit to gain entry to the factory First off, this place is absolutely MASSIVE! Seriously, it is so big you have to wonder how it was even possible to fit it onto a NES game. The best map you will ever see for this lovely can be found here: http://walkthrough.starmen.net/earthbound0/image/maps/duncanfactory.png The next thing to take note of is that this place is likely to require more than one trip (likely two or maybe even three) to get every Item, so prioritize, what are the most sought after Items. Some of the better Gift Boxes to go after are: i. Franklin Badge ii. Super Spray iii. Any Capsule iv. PSI Stone v. Bombs/Bottle Rockets Those are what I would consider the most important Items to chase, though there are very few things that are not that good. Still, lesser items that are in dead end or long away branches of the factory will be ignored by this walkthrough (they are not worth the trouble they represent due to multiple enemy attacks). Finally, the last piece of advice is to bring Bread with the party, using it to create a bread trail to follow back to the entrance, including the Crumbs item, as that is a very easy way to escape when they party is weakening. The enemy here can really dish out the damage too, so be ready to heal at a moments notice. Okay, with that out of the way, start off the trip into the Factory by heading to the right, going up the first ladder encountered, turning right on this ledge to continue along past all other ladders, entering the door at the end of the area to find the Super Spray (fantastic insect killer that is reusable). Move back tot he left to find a ladder to go down, heading right along the wall at the bottom, grabbing a Bomb from the first door encountered (give it to Loid). If you want a Rope, head right to go down a ladder to an area with one door to enter, but it is a dead end and not worth the risk really. Head left and down from this door, following the railing to find a ladder, climbing down it to turn left, running into a door nearby, which houses two Bottle Rockets for Loid to use. Head left to go back up the ladder, heading left again (along the railing), cutting straight across the large gap to rejoin the railing, which leads to a ladder going down. There are two doors to the left, with the first one holding a LifeUpCream while the second has one of each of the following Capsules: Quick, Wisdom, and Physical. Head back to the ladder and climb, moving up and to the left through the narrow area, watching for a door on the wall above, as inside of it is a Bomb. Move left and look for a ladder to take downwards, with a door on the right (Rope) to raid if desired, followed by continuing off to the left, watching for a new ladder to take upwards. The door at the top of the climb holds another Bomb for Jeff to use, so snag it and cut off to the right, climbing the ladder to go left, scaling another ladder to find a door, which houses a PSI Stone. Climb back down the ladder, heading right along the large wall, looking for a tall ladder to climb to the next level of ledges. Run to the left (ignoring the ladder that goes downward), heading up the next ladder to scale another ladder in the same area, reaching a ledge where a brief trip to the right leads to a ladder, which ends at a door (LifeUpCream). Head down the alder and start off to the right, with the next set of ladders leading to doors on their own landing, each holding Gift Boxes to be raided (if so desired): i. Bottle Rocket ii. Rope iii. Bread, Franklin Badge The third one is by far the most important, as the Franklin Badge will help keep Loid safe from PK Beam r attacks (not much of those right now, but they are coming). Keep bearing right along this platform, looking for a door in the far wall to pass through, grabbing a Bomb for Jeff before exiting the room to go up and left to find a ladder to the next ledge. Head left and climb the first ladder encountered, turning left again to scale another ladder, moving right this time to find a door with a Force Capsule contained within. Move left again (ignore the ladder Ninten just scaled) to continue along the really long and angled path, heading left along the railing when the rail straightens, entering a large room. Head left from the door to find three launchers, one of which that is still armed, and it will be time for Loid (our pyromaniac/serial arsonist in the making) to aim the rocket at the boulders strewn upon the train tracks, carelessly firing it off, hoping (or maybe not, he is a pyro after all) that no one gets in the way! To escape the factory easily, go all the way back to the right, taking the first ladder down, going right to take the next ladder down, and then take another right to another ladder leading down. Go down from this point and look to the left, finding a ladder there to take downwards, moving right to find a series of three ladders to slide down. Head left over a large stretch of platform, taking the first ladder down, continuing to the left, ignoring the ladder that goes up, instead following the wall to arrive at the door to leave the factory! o-------------------------o | Time To Tour On Trains! | o-------------------------o Head back to Merrysville, stopping in at the Hotel to sleep to regain all HP/PP, also stopping at the Department Store to sell any unwanted Items. Now with draw some money (say around $100), followed by going north out of town again, following the railway tracks, passing through the area that was caved in. Keep going along the tracks until the two boys reach the train station, entering to go to the right to buy some tickets. All aboard the Paradise Line, riding into Reindeer (first stop!). When the boys arrive, talk to the old woman in red, saying you are headed to Snowman, and she will give Ninten a Hat, which has the name "Ana" embroidered on it. With this done, go back to the ticket counter, and ask for two tickets, going to Snowman. Upon arrival, the boys will note that the enemies in this area are quite strong (so be careful), the harsh climate causes a lot of people to be sick (so only talk to people when absolutely necessary), and the whole town seems obsessed with this mystical girl Ana. Go to the southeastern portion of town (look for a sign), seeking a passage through a narrow and winding valley, following it all the way to the end, where the Snowman Chateau sits in pristine beauty. She will say she dreamed of Ninten, but to get her to join, use the Hat to say YES you are Ninten, and she immediately begins to boss Ninten around about finding her mom and how she needs Ninten's help! She then tells her dad that she is leaving home to find her missing mom, and since he was too lazy to look himself and that Snowman has no child services force to speak of, he will let her go with two strange boys who just rode into town on the train! Yeah, I do not get it either. Anyway, welcome to the team Ana! With Ana in tow, run back to town (have her Guard the entire time, as it may save her from one hit in battle), going to the building on the left (of the two near the JACK sign), entering to find the Snowman store! ________________ _________ _______ _____________________ | Name | Power | Price | Description | |________________|_________|_______|_____________________| | | | |Restores around 20 HP| | Bread | XX | 30 |creates crumbs in | | | | |dungeons to mark path| |________________|_________|_______|_____________________| | Mouthwash | XX | 175 |Cures common Cold | |________________|_________|_______|_____________________| | LifeUp Cream | XX | 194 |Completely refills HP| |________________|_________|_______|_____________________| | | | |A weak weapon, barely| | Frying Pan | 8 | 300 |better than bare | | | | |hands | |________________|_________|_______|_____________________| It is wise to go back to Magicant right away, purchasing the full run of equipment (Gold Ring, Magic Coin, and H20 Pendant), visit the swimming cat in the ground to the west of town (use Telepathy with Ana to get the Ribbon and use it on her to raise her Force by 5), followed by raising her levels up (she starts at 1, so a minimum of about 6 should be met before leaving Magicant). Once out of Magicant, fight around Merrysville or in Duncan's Factory for a bit, further raising her levels, but once you feel secure enough in her strength, head back to Union Station once more, making sure to bring about $300. Buy a ticket to Reindeer once more, but this time upon arrival, head out of the station, moving south into town. This town is filled with odd things, including: a rumour of an Old Man in the nearby mountains who never gets sick (or dies allegedly, as he is said to be hundreds of years old), a fellow in red studying "indoor architecture" (code for being a peeping tom), a fellow who sings a unique tune (though not one that Ninten needs), an odd man outside of the Department Store who will give Ninten cash if he agrees to not talk to the cops (make yourself over $400!), a dirty girl in the southern part of town who wants an Item (no matter what you give her, she will hand over a Flea Bag), and a few people mention that a neighbouring town has ghost issues (Spookane just became a very intriguing place since Podunk had similar issues before). With all this out of the way, it is time to sample the local wares, so head for the Department Store, checking it out as well as the local Food Store down the street: =============== Floor 2 - Drugs =============== ________________ _______ _______________________ | Name | Price | Use | |________________|_______|_______________________| | Antidote | 20 |Cures poison | |________________|_______|_______________________| | Asthma Spray | 148 |Cures Asthma for Ninten| |________________|_______|_______________________| | LifeUp Cream | 194 |Completely refills HP | |________________|_______|_______________________| | Insecticide | 300 |Damages bug foes fairly| | | |effectively | |________________|_______|_______________________| ====================== Floor 3 - Sports Goods ====================== ________________ _________ _______ _______________ | Name | Power | Price | Description | |________________|_________|_______|_______________| | | | |PING! With the Reindeer tour over, why not head into the mountains to find this Old Man who never gets sick and is hundreds of years old? Go north from town to arrive back at the train tracks, going west past a sign, continuing along the tracks, following them as they turn north. Right around where they turn north, walk near the treeline on the left, as they contain a Healer's House, so crash in there to get refreshed or softened, also taking advantage of his trusting nature to use his phone to call your dad (which is likely long distance too, but you are bad ass kids saving the world, so he can just deal with it). Continue the northern route on the tracks, following the treeline on the left when the tracks bend back towards the east (they are still going north mind you), looking for a large escarpment ahead, moving east along it to find a small pass leading up onto the higher ground. Head northwest to keep climbing the foothills, soon arriving at a house! Sadly, the Old Man appears to have lost his ability to speak... so head outside the house, moving east to find that the path continues, so go around the hill the house rests on, eventually reaching the sign to the east of the house, reading it to discover... that someone lost their dentures right under this sign!? Hold up one second... is the game trying to tell me that someone went out to this remote spot, discovered the dentures, and then decided (in their infinite wisdom), to go back into town, purchase sign building supplies, trek all the way back out here, build a sign, and then LEAVE THE DENTURES where they lay (as most people who have dentures are up for a LONG HIKE into the mountains to find them)!? That is not only silly, it is downright sadistically mean! After checking the sign, the dentures are automatically into your inventory, so reverse course to get back to the Old Man's House, entering to give him the Dentures, and in return he will give the three characters all the Mouthwash they can carry! Yes, the Mouthwash Man never gets sick because he gargles with Mouthwash apparently, and from now on he will sell Mouthwash to the crew for the low price of $10 a piece (as opposed to the heavy prices found elsewhere in the game), so it is a good spot to get some supplies as you run out (since it is the only way to cure a Cold outside of visiting a Doctor). This also presents a fantastic way to make cash, as buying for $10 here and selling elsewhere for $87, a profit of $77 per Mouthwash can really make for a real windfall! Head back to Reindeer Station, hopping the train once more, this time going to Spookane, as Ninten blew right through it before when he went to find Ana (my man has got to deal with his lack of lady problem first!), setting out from the Spookane station by going south into town. Right away, you will notice that enemies are attacking even in town, and no one seems to be out and about. Head for the Hotel, entering it to find an odd, grey fellow behind the counter (DUDE, GET SOME SUN!) who is offering a very cheap rate for staying at the Hotel, so feel free to take advantage of this opportunity. However, he will soon reveal why he is so oddly coloured, as he is a Starman in disguise! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ Starman ~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ H.P.: 80 Exp.: 165 $$$$: 68 This guy can use PK Beam attacks as well as physical hits, so expect him to dish out some damage. Attack him early, trying to end the fight quickly, though be ready to heal with Ninten if the Starman lands a harsh hit on Loid. Just not the hotel will no longer be operational after this bout. Head southeast from here, passing through the small valley to get into the eastern portion of Spookane, where people are actually able to live without fear of attack in the streets. Like any residential area, many interesting characters are around, whether they are the unfriendly greeting guy (first person you see), ghosts appear to be everywhere (mainly in houses, hence the busy streets here), a family named Rosemary (who had an unearthly child), a hint woman who will give clues for $1000 a pop (refuse though, and she will retreat away, never to return), and a Piano in the Rosemary Manor that supposedly plays a haunting melody! Since the mansion was locked by the townsfolk, someone must have the key. Head for the southeast portion of town, looking for the small house by itself, speaking to the woman there, as she holds the Ghost Key in her possession. o----------------------------------o | Play Me A Song, Possessed Piano! | o----------------------------------o Head north from the Ghost Key lady, going up two passes, moving west briefly to find a third pass. Now move east to find another pass, going northward to find the massive Rosemary manor, using the Ghost Key to head inside. Much like Duncan's Factory, this place is confusing, BUT this one is even tougher due to everything being laid out into small rooms, with a maze of doors connecting the whole thing. Here is a map for reference again, and again it is from stramen.net (fantastic site, check it out if you do not know it): http://walkthrough.starmen.net/earthbound0/image/maps/rosemary.png This walkthrough will get you to every Gift Box that is worthwhile while requiring a minimum amount of effort, but it will still be a long haul. So it is advisable to bring Bread and use it, as the Crumbs Item is a great way to get out as the team begins to weaken from all the tough foes inside of the Manor. Start out by going forward to see an odd mouse (he laughs maniacally... and he can talk. yeah, that is just odd), followed by through the top door. In this room, pass through the top door to enter a stairwell that leads down to the cellar. Take the next two bottom doors to find a long staircase, walking down the long, sloping corridor (ignore the dire warning given as you move along). Enter the door at the end to find a Gift Box with a Life Up Cream inside, which has an odd piano lying nearby. Head on over to it and check it, receiving the fourth melody of the game! The remaining portion of this section of the walkthrough will deal with collection of the other Items in the manor, so feel free to skip down to the next section to continue on in the game, but if you want to get it all, read onwards. Now backtrack all the way to the very first room in the Manor, taking the lower door here and in the next room, locating a Gift Box with an Antidote inside. Take the top door to find a long stairway, scaling downward to go through the door to enter a room with two doors. The bottom door leads to another staircase, going down to a room with Bread, which will end the raid of Items. Feel free to hang around in the manor and level up a bit, but at this point it might make more sense to head back towards Snowman, raising levels there versus the tougher (and more valuable) foes found there. o----------------------------o | Ninten of the Yucca Desert | o----------------------------o Whenever you are ready to move onwards, buy tickets to head for Union Station, getting out of there and heading to Merrysville for a few moments. Here Ninten and the crew can stock up on Life Up Cream, grab a few hundred dollars to carry along for the trip, and make a quick side trip over to Podunk, visiting Ninten's sister Minnie to store any unneeded Items. The challenge ahead is going to be a tough one, so make sure to have the team ready. When ready to advance onwards, hike back out to Union Station, but instead of going inside, head east down the tracks, going north into the hills when the path opens up. Keep bearing north through the hills, looking for an opening leading to the east, taking the two small passes down to the lower ground, moving east for a brief distance to arrive in the Yucca Desert! The Yucca Desert boasts some incredibly mean foes, so only fight battles that are not going to cost a lot of Hit Points or PSI Points. Also make sure to have the Super Spray in hand, as it will eliminate some of the insect enemies instantly, which is a great thing to do as they tend be tough opponents. When the desert first appears, run exactly east from your entry point, not deviating in any way. Eventually Ninten will reach a path of green among the brown of the desert, so head north to find an oasis, a tent, and a crazy old man! The old man turns out to be a former soldier (who has left a single landmine amongst the scrub and dirt... HAPPY HUNTING!), and he will offer rides in his airplane for a price. Making sure you have room for at least 12 items in your inventory, take the first route, noting the odd cactus that he circles around early on in the flightpath and then the ruins that lie on the second half of the flightpath. The other two routes are slightly more expensive, but route two will show some of the area previously traversed (Duncan's Factory, Ninten's house, Podunk) while route three will show some of the area to come (northern desert, outskirts of Ellay, end of the train line). After getting ten ticket stubs (you will have twelve, but only need ten), a brief sidetrip has to be undertaken BEFORE getting into the tank. Head north from the oasis, getting Ninten lined up near a line of four cacti. Turn west, hiking towards that same cactus the pilot circled earlier, keeping in mind it is the only cactus in the entire desert that has a face. Once it is located, use Telepathy on it, and it will sing into Ninten's mind, giving him the fifth melody of the game! Backtrack to the oasis once more, using a Ticket Stub on the pilot to trade 10 ticket stubs for the opportunity to climb aboard and use the tank! No enemy will attack you, so touring the desert will be a breeze (but you can not leave the desert). Head east from the oasis, going around the rock outcroppings by driving right through the area, reaching the ruins that the pilot skimmed earlier on the first route. Maneuver between the wrecked walls, going north into the top area of the ruins, and suddenly a massive foe will attack! ~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ R7307 ~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~ H.P.: 1000 Exp.: 205 $$$$: 71 Although that is one HUUUUUUUUUGGGGE robot, since the crew has a tank, the foe can not damage them. Instead, attack away, marveling out how your tank (well the PILOT'S tank, but he is not here, so it is more yours now... and who lets three kids drive away with his piece of military machinery anyway?) bounces back the enemy's attacks, keeping up the attack pattern to scrap the robot for good! Unfortunately, the tank is demolished by the fight, but there is nothing you can do about that. Instead, strive forward and enter the hatch on the ground, locating the Monkey Grotto! o-------------------------------------o | Monkeying Around For Fun And Profit | o-------------------------------------o Upon entering the ruins, the very first monkey will proclaim that the monkeys here are liars for the most part, so keep that in mind while touring around the border of this floor. Look for a passage into the center to follow, heading down the hatch to the floor below. Head left and keep going until a Gift Box with a PSI Stone is found, then backtrack to the right to take the passage downwards. Follow the path until a second Gift Box appears (also containing a PSI Stone), followed by going down to take the path on the left (the path forks). Continue along the path ahead, talking to the second monkey to get a Quick Capsule, and then go left, right to the dead end room, where the Gift Box with yet another PSI Stone waits. Finally, follow the wall on the left and go up, then right, and finally down to go through the hatch to find a cave! In this cave is an odd pink stone, which should be familiar as using Telepathy on this stone will send Ninten and the group to Magicant! Although this seems like a wasted trip, exit from Magicant in the typical fashion, BUT this will change where Ninten exits from Magicant, as he will appear in a cave near the Yucca Desert (this is permanent, and it makes life a lot easier if you ever have to go to Magicant, as no hiking through the desert to get back into this chunk of the world). o---------------------------------o | That Sucks... No Kidding Around | o---------------------------------o Move east to find the railroad tracks, following them along until the station is reached. Head southwest from there, reaching a rather shoddy fence with a young, scared kid, which signals the arrival of the team at Youngtown! However, poor Ana will have to wait a while longer to see her mom, as she and all other adults were abducted by a ship from the sky. Talk around to find out various things, but the first real stop should be in the northeast portion of town, as the house with the sign in front of it offers free overnight stays (free refills), while the house on the right boasts the only shop in town. ________________ _________ _______ _______________________ | Name | Power | Price | Description | |________________|_________|_______|_______________________| | | | |Restores around 20 HP | | Bread | XX | 30 |creates crumbs in | | | | |dungeons to track paths| |________________|_________|_______|_______________________| | LifeUp Cream | XX | 194 |Completely refills HP | |________________|_________|_______|_______________________| | | | |An okay upgrade for | | Nonstick Pan | 16 | 700 |Ana, it is still weak | |________________|_________|_______|_______________________| | | | |An excellent weapon for| | Air Gun | 42 | 1400 |Loid to wield | |________________|_________|_______|_______________________| As you can see, a couple decent weapon buys here (though giving Ana Loid's old Boomerang might be a better idea), so after settling up, head back into town to explore. The Garrickson baby is mentioned more than a few times, so finding it might be a good idea. Head for the west side of town, entering the house with the blue door, going to the baby to use Telepathy. After a brief back and forth, the Garrickson baby will teach them Teleportation. Yeah, I am not so sure how a kid who has never been anywhere is able to know this PSI spell, let alone know how to properly implement it. With the stop in Youngtown over, it may be advisable to use the free inn at the town, raising a few levels. It has been a while since level grinding has been forced on you, but the enemies ahead are taking a huge leap in toughness, so it is best to do so. When this part of the journey is over with, exit out of town tot he east, starting on the road to the city of Ellay! o---------------------o | Swamps & Wilderness | o---------------------o As soon as the swamp appears, prepare for some brutal enemy attacks. Head up and look for a bridge going to the east, crossing the water to turn north again, bearing east along the water, arriving at a second bridge. After crossing, run north once again, coming across yet another bridge to move east across, this time turning southeast. The crew will soon come across a shack in the swamp, and as every kid knows, shacks in the swamp never contain anything evil! Well, it turns out this is a good shack (I know, I am disappointed as well). First things first, talk to the shaking garbage can to discover that Loid's father is living in there (so that is where he got it from), and he wants to know who is playing (so feel free to input whatever name you feel like... seems like a phishing scam to me). This is for later on in the game, so add your name in there, and then his father will just crush what little self esteem Loid may have established for himself in his helping Ninten up to this point. The shack itself is a nice place, and that is not the only surprise, as Pippy is the one in possession of it! Yes, the lost girl in cemetery, the one who helped you grind some levels with her superior strength early in the game, she is the one who has decided to meet you here, offering free overnight stays to refill the party's HP/PP. This is a fantastic place to grind levels, so feel free to go at it, making sure that Ana has a wide array of spells (Super Healing is going to be VERY helpful soon) to call upon. When you are ready to advance, go southwest from the shack, following the main land route (if anything dead-ends, just backtrack the short distance to the other pathway), reaching a bridge. Head south upon crossing, following the pathway easterly, looking for another bridge to get across the water in the east. Keep going east (ignore the path that leads north at the fork), going northeast as the water funnels Ninten that way, crossing a final bridge. Head north along the long stretch of water, keeping the trek going upwards, looking out for a large forest. Go north by passing this forest by taking the path on the right, looking to go northwest when the forest begins to disappear, reaching a bridge. Follow the dirt path westward, and the crew will soon land in the city of Ellay! o---------------------o | Ellay Is Happening! | o---------------------o Ellay is huge, but the majority of it is not helpful suburbs. First stop in this gang addled land is the Department Store and local Food Shop: =============== Floor 2 - Drugs =============== ________________ _______ _______________________ | Name | Price | Use | |________________|_______|_______________________| | Antidote | 20 |Cures poison | |________________|_______|_______________________| | Asthma Spray | 148 |Cures Asthma for Ninten| |________________|_______|_______________________| | LifeUp Cream | 194 |Completely refills HP | |________________|_______|_______________________| | Insecticide | 300 |Damages bug foes fairly| | | |effectively | |________________|_______|_______________________| =============== Floor 3 - Foods =============== ________________ _______ _______________________ | Name | Price | Use | |________________|_______|_______________________| | Orange Juice | 5 |Restores around 10 HP | |________________|_______|_______________________| | | |Restores around 20 HP | | Bread | 30 |creates crumbs in | | | |dungeons to track paths| |________________|_______|_______________________| | Sports Drink | 75 |Restores around 100 HP | |________________|_______|_______________________| | | |Restores around 10 HP | | Berry Tofu | 975 |Trade north of Ellay | |________________|_______|_______________________| ======================= Floor 4 - Variety Goods ======================= ________________ _________ _______ _____________________ | Name | Power | Price | Description | |________________|_________|_______|_____________________| | | | |Get's the party into | | Ticket | XX | 350 |the Ellay Live Show | |________________|_________|_______|_____________________| | | | |Dull and weak, Teddy | | Butter Knife | 15 | 580 |can find better | | | | |weapons | |________________|_________|_______|_____________________| | Rope | XX | 600 |Immobilizes an enemy | |________________|_________|_______|_____________________| | | | |A much better | | Survival Knife | 38 | 1200 |starting weapon for | | | | |Teddy | |________________|_________|_______|_____________________| ========== Food Store ========== ________________ _______ _______________________ | Name | Price | Use | |________________|_______|_______________________| | Orange Juice | 5 |Restores around 10 HP | |________________|_______|_______________________| | French Fries | 15 |Restores around 20 HP | |________________|_______|_______________________| | Hamburger | 25 |Restores around 50 HP | |________________|_______|_______________________| The town is abuzz with worry about the ominous clouds around the nearby mountain, the police seem to be selling weapons (check back later... though hope you never have to), and the biggest topic by far has to be the B.B. Gang, and their leader Teddy. Yes, these ruffians wear blue, and they attack whenever they are addressed, so your first instinct might be to avoid them. However, the B.B. Gang members possess a fairly useful item (the Flame Thrower), which gives Jeff a HUGE boost in power on his attacks, so it is advisable to win some in battle. The only other place of note is the Ocean View Tower, found to the northwest of town. Head north from town and locate the water, going west to find the tower. Move inside to take the elevator to the roof, where Ninten should look through the telescope on the left (CHECK it to do so), boarding the rocket that appears. Ride it out to find a laboratory, entering to find three men, all of which want to taste Berry Tofu. If you trade Berry Tofu to each one of them, they will give the Items in return (the Doctor gives Words of Love, Able give Swear Words, and Baker speaks of a robot on Mt. Itoi (more mention of that mountain... still MORE FORESHADOWING!). To advance the plot though, it would be best to buy a Ticket from the Department Store, as the only other source for tickets is a scalper, and he has more than a 300% mark-up! Also take out an additional $200, as you will find the Live Show door blocked by a familiar face... the crazy desert military man! Yes, he is here to collect the money he needs to repair the damage to his scrapped Tank (if you recall, the R7307 crunched it when it attacked), and he will not move until he gets paid. After paying him, enter the Live Show, use the Ticket to get past the door person, and feel free to work the room. However, DO NOT accept the offer of a drink, or the cops will arrest the team, taking away Ninten's weapon! The weapon is buyable from the cop, but why waste the money on that (plus you have to buy a new Ticket to the Live Show)? After touring around, agree to perform on stage, which will lead to an "impromptu" performance (by impromptu, I mean they perform as if they have been practicing several hours a day, for many weeks... I wish I could adlib that well). However, at this point the guy wanders in from off the street and will pop onto stage, and Ninten will be forced to face off with him, one on one! Just attack for a few rounds, and he will soon stop the fight, choosing to join the team, booting Loid out of the crew (and taking his Items away, so I guess he is not as good at heart as some people would have you believe)! o-------------------------------------------o | To Magicant For Equipment... And A Melody | o-------------------------------------------o First thing you will note about Ellay is that the B.B. Gang is now friendly with Ninten (thanks to Teddy's presence), so I hope you got all the Flame Throwers you needed for Loid (though he is gone, not a big concern). Use the Onyx Hook to go back to Magicant, once again purchasing a Magic Coin, a Gold Ring, and an H2O Pendant for Teddy. Also be sure to give him the Sword you collected a long time ago (likely in storage, so see the Mysterious Goods Keeper). Teddy is incredibly powerful, even putting Ninten to shame. This means he can often wipe out foes in a single attack, so be sure to take advantage of this, and this fact will comfort you on the loss of Loid. To find that Melody, go through the typical exiting scheme for Magicant, getting into the maze like area. However, instead of ignoring the Dragon (like you have been on all the previous trips), head on over and Check it to wake it up. Note that Ninten needs to be at least Level 25 for the Dragon to spring into action, so raise levels for a bit before coming here (if needed, but by this point it should be no problem to clear this). ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ Dragon ~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~ H.P.: 650 Exp.: 500 $$$$: 1200 The Dragon has a myriad of abilities, a strange cry is able to lower a single character's defense, able to use PSI spells like Fire b and Thunder r, and he can also deliver BRUTAL physical blows (with some ability to hit SMAAAASH!! attacks consistently). He also has a wealth of Hit Points that is bolstered by his defensive abilities, so have Ninten lead off with a Defense Up b (helps lessen physical damage), Ana should use PSI Block (stops the hit all PSI spells from connecting), and Teddy should attack, and after the defense is up for the team, have Ninten use Offense Up on himself and Teddy while Ana plays healer for the group. Keep pouring the attacks onto the large creature, and he will soon go down in defeat! Talk to the Dragon after the bout, and he will croon out the sixth melody for Ninten! o----------------o | Mount Mt. Itoi | o----------------o Exit Magicant and use Teleport in an open area, landing the three youths in Ellay. Fill up at the Hotel and save the game, followed by moving towards the northeastern portion of Ellay, following the dirt track through the suburbs. The point that the three need to find is a bridge, going across the water to turn southeast, passing between the two main areas of trees. Head across the bridge to find a house sitting out in the open, so head inside. A very generous doctor owns this house, and he will let the children sleep there to refill their Hit Points and PSI Points for free, and he will also give away free Life Up Cream! Seriously, he gives out the best healing Item in the game, giving the children their medicine (makes him sound like a drug dealer... which he is technically, but not the bad kind!), so feel free to stock up as needed, as it is a great way to save PSI Points in the upcoming trek. Finally, it also makes a decent place to level up if desired, so take advantage if you are the grinding personality type. When ready, head out of the shack, moving east and north through the open area between the two main tree groupings, and soon the crew will come across an opening in the rockface, which happens to be the Mt. Itoi Cave! The caves are mightily confusing, so best to not go wandering aimlessly, or you may never get out (USE Bread for the Crumbs, they can be a lifesaver). Head right and take the pathway that leads upwards, following it to pass through the portal that lies ahead. Move down the path ahead and when the fork appears, go down and then right, passing through the opening to find a Gift Box that holds a Bomb. Now backtrack through the last two openings, heading back down the path to the fork, this time moving to the right. Once the next fork is reached, head to the left and follow the pathway, reaching a lone Gift Box at the end of the path, which so happens to hold the Katana (Teddy's best weapon!). Move back to the fork and head up, going through the opening to the next area. Go down and to the left, continuing past the fork that leads upwards to wind along the twisting path, arriving at a Gift Box that holds a Life Up Cream. Continue along the path from that point, reaching the next opening for Ninten and friends to use to advance. Ignoring the nearby opening, go down the path instead, going up at the fork to raid the Gift Box for an Iron Skillet (Ana's best weapon!) before backtracking to the fork, taking the left passage this time, following it until another opening appears for the crew to pass through. Head down the path and keep on going until the path turns to the right, following it the entire way to the right to find a door pass through. Follow the short path here to a Gift Box, getting Hank's Bat (Ninten's best weapon!), followed by backtracking to the previous area of the caves. Head left, taking the path on the right, walking upwards along the lengthy path to go through the opening. Follow the path here, grabbing a PSI Stone from the Gift Box that lies along the path, and then keep on moving, passing through the opening to arrive at the Mt Itoi Plateau! o----------------------------------o | Fresh Off The Manufacturing Line | o----------------------------------o First thing to be noted about the enemies here (and from now on) are that they are super to insanely strong. Make use of powerful PSI spells from Ana (PK Beam r/PK Freeze r can be really helpful) to assist the boys in taking out foes, but it is likely a good idea to just flee from tough foes like Grizzlies. Head west to find a vine that allows the crew to climb up the wall of rock ahead, following the path to find a second vine. Walk straight north to spot another vine to scale up the large cliff wall, turning to the east. Run along and go down a single pass, keeping the eastern trajectory until a cabin with some cheery trees outside comes into view. Enter to find a Healer, and he will immediately fill up the team's HP/PP when spoken to. Also feel free to make use of his phone (though how he has a land line way up here in the middle of crazy Grizzly land is beyond me), as it can be used for a good trick in a bit. Anyway, although this free healing makes level raising a possibility, I would advise you to not waste your time, due to a certain event that is coming. To advance the plot, head into the next room of the Healer's House, where Ana and Ninten will dance around, have an awkward exchange (why do women always want to hear that "L" word?), and then Teddy will re-enter the room, getting ready to leave. However, massive booming noises soon start, and Teddy (assuming the other two have gone completely deaf and are unable to sense vibrations) will point said noises out, and soon after a familiar looking shape will come through the walls! ~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ R7308 ~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~ H.P.: 1000 Exp.: 430 $$$$: 101 Sadly, there is nothing to be done here, so use whatever style of attacks you would like, as the R7308 will hammer on the crew, decimating them with several hundreds of damage at a time. Take the beating and see what happens next. Luckily Loid came along and blasted away with the recently repaired Tank... and he shoots the crew by accident! To show how much of an issue this is for him, he helpfully supplies the lines "Oh shoot! I missed!". Are you serious? You just shot your two close friends (and the bully who kicked your weenie ass off of the team) with a BLOODY TANK SHELL and all you can say is "Oh shoot! I missed!"!? What kind of heartless ass is this guy? With the crew in tow, Loid heads back down the mountain, dropping the injured team members at the very generous doctor’s place. o------------------o | Back To Mt. Itoi | o------------------o Head into the next room to find the badly injured Teddy, speaking to him to hear about what he now believes (likely the massive concussion he is suffering from), and then Loid will come back to the crew (no doubt his plan all along, shoot the already injured Teddy with a Tank Round)! Make sure Loid has the Flame Throwers he won before in his possession, also making sure to stock up on any Life Up Creams that they can from the Doctor (he has yet to be busted for his drug dealing... of course the Ellay cops are too busy using loose women at the Live Show to confiscate weapons and then sell them on the black market to make more cash), and then exit to face the grim prospect of climbing up Mt. Itoi once more. However, if you saved at the Healer's House on Mt. Itoi Plateau, you can instead die on purpose, choosing to continue, which will place the crew back up on the Plateau without the fuss of climbing up once again. Either way you do it, get back to the Healer's House, using it as a base for leveling up a bit (which is highly advisable due to the insanely tough foes that lie ahead), prepping for the next step. o---------------------o | Onwards To The Lake | o---------------------o When ready to head out, go north to pass through a narrow area above, heading east along the shores of a lake. Follow the shore as it head to the northwest, and keep following it along as it twists around to the northeast. When a rock wall appears close to the water, continue along the shore, heading south to find a boat with a broken motor. Luckily for the crew, Loid can fix it, so ride west from the dock, happening upon a whirlpool. Like any sane kids who are boating out in the middle of nowhere on top of a mountain (where aliens are patrolling and using telekinetic powers to try and annihilate them), they should go right at said whirlpool, sinking the boat and sending them spiraling down to... the bottom of the lake, where a hatch will grab hold of them. Apparently inside of a hidden lab (with no enemies), take the lift downwards to a wide landing area, moving out to the left. Keep on going left, passing through doors and moving past the large windows, looking for a ladder to climb up. At the top sits a rather long legged and funny looking robot, so Check it out to activate it, learning that it is named EVE, built by your Great Grandfather (which is pretty lucky, since he lived in a time of no robotics... I guess he learned a lot in space), and EVE is designed to protect Ninten. This statement is immediately followed by the glass of the underwater lab bursting, sending everyone flying in all directions (well done EVE!)! o-------------------o | Climb To The Peak | o-------------------o DO NOT GO BACK TO THE HEALER'S HOUSE WHEN EVE IS WITH THE GROUP, OR SHE WILL BE DESTROYED! She is far too important to your efforts to climb the mountain, so make her do most of the work on the climb by just Guarding with all three team members, as she is so powerful she destroy foes with a single blow! Appearing on the southwest shore of the lake, start the circle of the lake once again, reaching the spot with the rock wall close to the water. Head north from here and climb up the pass onto the higher ground, going north from there to find two vines to climb up. Move off to the northwest to find the next pass to climb up, moving northeast from here, ignoring the pass that appears, instead cutting north through the lower area instead to find a vine to climb up. Walk to the east from here, wandering through the rock outcroppings while watching for a pass that leads up to the next level of the mountain. A vine will be in sight here, but go east instead, locating a cave to pass through, emerging on the far side of the mountain, where a Gift Box rests, holding the best Pendant in the game... the Sea Pendant! This beauty is capable of cutting all PSI elemental attack power in half (like a free PSI Shield for the wearer!), so it is likely a good idea to give it to Ana since she has the lowest Hit Point totals of the three party members. Backtrack through the cave to the previous area, taking the vine that was ignored before, climbing up to the next area of the mountain. To advance the game, head to the west, but if this occurs, EVE will be destroyed. So, before doing this action, feel free to keep making use of EVE to raise the levels of the party members, as she can really rack up the Experience Points for all three members. However, once you do go west from that spot, a battle will occur with a "new and, unfortunately, improved" R7308! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ R7308XX ~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ H.P.: 1000 Exp.: 550 $$$$: 180 He is even nastier than before, including an intimidating, bright red paint job. However, the trump card this time is that EVE is with the crew, and she will draw all of the focus from R7308XX, so just do anything that will not waste your PSI Points, as the battle will continue until EVE is destroyed, but she will take the massive robot with her in resulting fireball! Check the fallen EVE after the battle, for she holds the seventh melody, meaning one final melody remains! Without EVE, the battles on the mountain are going to prove to be just insanely tough, so it is best to pick and choose which battles to fight, making use of 4-D Slip with Ninten, using PSI Stones between bouts if necessary. Move out to the east from the mangled wreck of EVE, looking for a vine to climb to a higher ledge. Head directly north from the arrival point, finding another vine to hike up to the higher cliff, heading east from there to find one more vine, climbing it to find a gravestone! Check the gravestone to reveal a black stone, which holds the spirit of Ninten's Great Grandfather George! George will reveal the melodies are really the love of Ninten's Great Grandmother Maria, scattered purposely by the enemy. He then teaches Ninten the final melody, so it is time to head back to Magicant (via the Onyx Hook) to see Queen Maria! o------------------o | Magicant Exposed | o------------------o Use this stop to make any last minute grabs from the Mysterious Goods Keeper, stay at the Inn, and any other actions you feel would be ideal. Head for the palace, wandering into the throne room, and she will request Ninten sing the melodies that he has learned, and he shall oblige. Queen Maria will harmonize with the song, and as her memory rushes back, she will be ready to be with George, so her illusion of Magicant will be destroyed as she leaves! The crew is then whisked back to the gravestone belonging to George on Mt. Itoi, at the very peak of the mountain! o------------------o | The Final Battle | o------------------o Head north from the gravestone to find a cave, so head inside to begin the trek to the end of the game. Follow the path inside to find a fork, so head through the opening on the right to find a room filled with kidnapped people! Ana's mom is here amongst the victims, but nothing can be done for these people until the mothership is defeated. Head back to the previous path, following the other fork all the way to the end, passing through the opening to find the final battle! ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ Giegue ~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~ H.P.: --- Exp.: 0 $$$$: 0 The mothership will rise up from the depths, bringing the alien Giegue into direct conflict with the party! Giegue can not be hurt by any means for the first 8 rounds of battle, so start the fight by using PSI Shield beta with Ninten, followed by using Ninten/Ana for Life Up spells and have all three make use of their Life Up Cream stock they got from the doctor as the base of Mt. Itoi. When not performing any of those actions, have the party members Guard. When Giegue tells Ninten to join him on the mothership, now is the time to start Singing to the alien baddie, making sure to heal repeatedly, keeping the Hit Points of the group high. After 11 rounds of Maria's lullaby, Giegue will retreat, ending the battle! After threatening to return, he will blast off in his mothership, which will result in the end of the game scenes! CONGRATULATIONS!!! You have beat what would have been an incredible RPG for the NES, it ever would have been released. Enjoy the ending, you deserve it! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------Weapons----------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) This section will look into the weaponry that Ninten and his crew can make use of. It will be divided into specific weaponry for everyone (they each have a unique weapon type) and one set for common weaponry (that all can use). o---------------o | Ninten's Bats | o---------------o ________________ _________ _______ __________________ _______________ | Name | Power | Price | Obtain | Description | |________________|_________|_______|__________________|_______________| | | | |Ninten's Basement |Ninten's | | | | |Podunk |weakest weapon,| | Plastic Bat | 3 | 80 |Sweet's Factory |upgrade to a | | | | |Twinkle Elementary|better one soon| |________________|_________|_______|__________________|_______________| | | | |Podunk |A better bat, | | Wooden Bat | 12 | 500 |Merrysville |it deals decent| | | | | |damage to foes | |________________|_________|_______|__________________|_______________| | | | |Merrysville |PING! ------------------------------------Bosses---------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11)This section will strategies for each Boss Fight from through out the game. o-------------o | Starman Jr. | o-------------o H.P.: 52 Exp.: 30 $$$$: 5 This out of this world opponent has a unique shape and he likes to make use of Beam attacks in addition to his regular attacks. Keep landing hits when possible, and the Starman Jr. will soon go down for the 10 count! o----------o | The Fish | o----------o H.P.: 65 Exp.: 140 $$$$: 180 The Fish is just bit a stronger and tougher than the average foes that Ninten has been facing in and around Magicant, but he should still prove to be no match for the Psychic Kid. Attack away on him repeatedly, only pausing to heal if Ninten's Hit points drop lower than 25. This fight should end in two or three rounds, and should be of little to no trouble what so ever. o---------o | Starman | o---------o H.P.: 80 Exp.: 165 $$$$: 68 This guy can use PK Beam attacks as well as physical hits, so expect him to dish out some damage. Attack him early, trying to end the fight quickly, though be ready to heal with Ninten if the Starman lands a harsh hit on Loid. Just not the hotel will no longer be operational after this bout. o-------o | R7307 | o-------o H.P.: 1000 Exp.: 205 $$$$: 71 Although that is one HUUUUUUUUUGGGGE robot, since the crew has a tank, the foe can not damage them. Instead, attack away, marveling out how your tank (well the PILOT'S tank, but he is not here, so it is more yours now... and who lets three kids drive away with his piece of military machinery anyway?) bounces back the enemy's attacks, keeping up the attack pattern to scrap the robot for good! o--------o | Dragon | o--------o H.P.: 650 Exp.: 500 $$$$: 1200 The Dragon has a myriad of abilities; a strange cry is able to lower a single character's defense, able to use PSI spells like Fire b and Thunder r, and he can also deliver BRUTAL physical blows (with some ability to hit SMAAAASH!! attacks consistently). Keep pouring the attacks onto the large creature, and he will soon go down in defeat! o-------o | R7308 | o-------o H.P.: 1000 Exp.: 430 $$$$: 101 Sadly, there is nothing to be done here, so use whatever style of attacks you would like, as the R7308 will hammer on the crew, decimating them with several hundreds of damage at a time. Take the beating and see what happens next. o---------o | R7308XX | o---------o H.P.: 1000 Exp.: 550 $$$$: 180 He is even nastier than before, including an intimidating, bright red paint job. However, the trump card this time is that EVE is with the crew, and she will draw all of the focus from R7308XX, so just do anything that will not waste your PSI Points, as the battle will continue until EVE is destroyed, but she will take the massive robot with her in resulting fireball! o--------o | Giegue | o--------o H.P.: --- Exp.: 0 $$$$: 0 The mothership will rise up from the depths, bringing the alien Giegue into direct conflict with the party! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------Status Ailments------------------------------ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 12)This section will look at each Status Ailment effects and how to cure each one. o--------o | Asleep | o--------o When a character falls asleep, they are unable to do anything until they wake up. This effect can last for multiple turns (and often does). To cure this affliction, the following methods work: i) End battle. ii) Character wakes up. iii) Healing omega. o---------------o | Asthma Attack | o---------------o When Ninten inhales exhaust from the various machines in the game, he will be rendered unable to do anything, other than hack and cough and try to breathe properly. To cure this affliction, the following methods work: i) End battle. ii) Asthma Spray. o-------o | Blind | o-------o When a character is blinded, their accuracy of their physical attacks will drop, making them less effective in battle. To cure this affliction, the following methods work: i) End battle. o------o | Cold | o------o When speaking to regular, everyday folk in the overworld (particularly in colder climates), your characters can catch a cold from sick people. The effect is a continual sap of their Hit Points (1 Hit Point per every 8 steps taken), which can kill them after a while. To cure this affliction, the following methods work: i) Mouthwash. ii) Visit a Doctor. o----------o | Confused | o----------o When a character becomes confused, they will begin to attack ANY being in battle, whether they be friend or foe. i) End battle. ii) Noble Seed. o-----------o | Paralysis | o-----------o When afflicted by this horrible malady, the affected party member can do nothing at all, not even use PSI or use Items. i) End battle. ii) Healing beta. o----------o | Poisoned | o----------o When a party member is infected by a toxin, they will lose 1 Hit Point for every 8 steps they take in the overworld. i) Antidote. ii) Healing alpha. iii) Visit a Doctor. o-----------o | PSI Block | o-----------o When Ninten or Ana get this ailment from a foe, they will be unable to use PSI for the remainder of the battle. If they try to use PSI, it will be a wasted turn, as the attempt will be blocked (though the PSI Points will be used up anyway since the PSI Spell was attempted). i) End battle. o---------o | Puzzled | o---------o When afflicted with this, a character will often let their mind wander, and they will not attack. Although rare, it is a VERY irritating thing to have occur. i) End battle. o------------o | Restrained | o------------o When a character is tied up or becomes stuck (thanks to a sticky substance attack), they will be unable to do anything in battle for a short while. It can last one turn or multiple, it appears to be random. i) Character breaks free. ii) End battle. o-------o | Stone | o-------o When a character is solidified, they will be unable to do anything in battle, which essentially means that they are no better than a statue in a market square. i) Healing gamma. ii) Visit a Healer. o-------------o | Unconscious | o-------------o When a party member has their Hit Points reduced to 0, if a PK Beam gamma attack is successful, or a PK Fire omega attack is successful, then the targeted character will pass out. i) Visit a Doctor. ii) Super Healing. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------Final Word--------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 13)As is the usual, this walkthrough is copyright property of Brian P. Man thanks to http://www.rpgclassics.com/shrines/nes/ebz for the fantastic enemy reference on some of the hidden stats of the foes. It proved invaluable and it also made sure that a lot of this was bang on accurate. It also helped me out on a few Items as well, so check out the page for an excellent reference for this game. Also, starmen.net is an amazing Earthbound resource (for any game from the series, Japan only or not), so make sure to give it a look over as well. I specifically recommend their amazing maps, they really are stellar!
