Introduction------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chubby Cherub was one of the earlier games on the NES, it was released in 1986 and was made by Bandai, in it you take the role of a cherub (or a ghost if you are playing the Japanese version). The goal in every level is to rescue your friend at the end, in the meantime you will have to eat to keep your power meter full because when that's empty you'll die. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------II. Controls---------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A: Press the A button to jump, holding the A button allows you to fly until your power meter is almost empty, also press A while flying to go back to the ground again. B: Pressing the B button will let you attack, to attack you need to pick up lollypops to fill up the GAU and to shoot. Start: Pauses the game Select: No function D-pad: Use the D-pad to move around ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------III. Items--------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- o----o |Food| o----o To fly you must have your power meter full and to get it full you must pick up a lot of food, when the power meter is almost empty then you won't be able to fly anymore making the game a lot harder and when the meter is fully empty than you'll starve and die. The amount of increase will be different by food, the food that gives more points will also increase your power meter more. Grapes - Ten points. Apple - Ten points. Ice-cream - Twenty points. Rice - Twenty points. Cake - Fifty points. o--------o |Lollypop| o--------o Unlike the rest of the food the lollypop doesn't increase your power meter, instead it gives you more GAU, GAU allows you to shoot hearts which only kills dogs. o--------------o |Special object| o--------------o In the middle of every level you'll come across a stop sign, to go further you must pick up all the food on the screen to make a special object appear and than you must pick that up as well, this object can be anything, from a computer to a hat, from a star to a heart etc. etc. o---------o |P powerup| o---------o The P powerup will appear randomly when you pick up food and it will make you invincible for a short while, use the invincibilty to kill the hard enemies like the barking dogs for example. o----o |Bone| o----o At the end of every three levels you have to defeat a level boss, to do this you must pick up the bone laying behind him and than throwing it at him with the B button. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------IV. Tactics and hints----------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bonus points ------------ - In the stages one, two and three you'll get bonus points for picking up food. (Picked up food X 40) - In the stages four, five and six you'll get bonus points for time. (bonus depends on time) - In the stages seven, eight and nine you'll get bonus points for killing dogs. (killed dogs X 200) - In the stages ten, eleven and twelve you'll get bonus points for picking up jewels. (picked up jewels X 400) - In the latter levels there will be chimney's, there will be smoke coming from some chimneys, touch the smoke which has a halo form from underneath to go to a bonus level, there your power meter will be filled instantly. - Don't forget that you can use the chimney bonus level as often as you like to rack up points. Extra lives ----------- - Get 30000 points for an extra life. - Get 50000 points for an extra life. Enemies ------- - The only enemies that you can kill are the dogs, keep this in mind. - After you've killed a dog be careful that you don't touch it when it falls down, because then you still die. Boss ---- - Every level except the third one will end by a set of windows where there's food placed under it, you must pick the right food to rescue your friends, if you pick the wrong one a dog could come out of the window and kill you, this is always random so your friend will always be behind another window. - At the end of every third level you have to free your friend from a guy with a big smile, to do this you must avoid the bomb the guy's throwing and than getting the bone laying behind to him. After you grabbed the bone a dog and a cat will appear, quickly shoot a bone at the guy and the cat and dog will attack him completing the level. Obstacles --------- - Be careful for pits, when you fall into one you'll enter a dark room with a dog and a few cats and it's almost impossible to get out of these things so try to avoid falling into one. Food ---- - Picking up food that gives higher points will give you more power. - To get food in last few levels you'll have to pick up jewels to make food appear, the jewels appear when you cross certain spots. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------V. Enemies------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Small dogs ---------- Sometimes they bark and sometimes they just follow you around, the barking ones are really though because their barks can reach a bigger length than you can shoot. The best way to kill them is to get a P powerup so that you can get a bit closer and than kill them, the non-barking dogs are a lot easier to deal with because you can get close enough to them. Big dogs -------- These dogs are a bit tougher than the small dogs, the barking big dogs will bark a lot more and a lot faster than the smaller ones making it harder to kill them, just like to small dogs it is recommended picking up a P powerup before attacking them. Bird ---- The bird will fly up and down the whole time so when it comes your way plan ahead to avoid getting hit. Crow ---- The crows fly in straight formations so they're a lot better avoidable than the birds but when flying underneath them be careful because they will try to throw eggs on your head. Cat --- The cat doesn't do anything more than follow you around so just fly over it. Balloon ------- The balloon will also follow you around the whole time, this is extremely annoying when your energy has run out and you're not able to fly anymore. Smoke ----- Avoid the smoke coming from the chimneys in the latter levels, even though touching the halo form brings you to a bonus level you can only touch it from the bottom or else you still die. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------VI.
