Walk in with nothing, walk out with everything, that's what you came here to do! Work your way from table to table, and from player to player, laying down cards and racking up chips. Build yourself a reputation as the sharpest of card sharks around, and you just might win the attention of a true professional---a man who won't play against anyone but the best, of the best. So Kid, if you want to make it out of here without losing your shirt, I suggest you take a look at these strategies I've detailed below. Just consider them a gift, from one Vegas High-Roller to another. ======================================================================= |-II.---------------------- LEARN THE BASICS -------------------------| ======================================================================= Strolling around the checkered carpet of the Casino floor is how you will move from table to table, chat with some of the best poker players around, and meet up with those seeking a new challenge. ==========-----========== -----Control the Kid----- ==========-----========== You, the "Casino Kid", are the short character with the blonde hair and white tuxedo. D-Pad 'UP'...........................Walk upwards D-Pad 'DOWN'.........................Walk downwards D-Pad 'LEFT'.........................Walk to the left D-Pad 'RIGHT'........................Walk to the right 'A' Button...........................Talk to another player 'B' Button...........................No function If you want to start up a conversation with another player at the Casino, you need to walk right up to them and press 'A'. This is how you will challenge other players to a game of poker, as well as learn about some of the other players and blackjack dealers. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ==========-------========== ---Play Your Cards Right--- ==========-------========== The only way to fill the Casino Kid's pockets in this game is to win hands of Poker and Blackjack. And although the skill levels of your opponents will (usually) rise as you progress through the game, the rules will always remain the same. ==------------------== -==--------==-- The Rules of BlackJack --==--------==- \==------------------==/ The object of this game is to get as close as possible to the value 21 without going over, which is known as "busting". All number cards have the value of the number in the corner, Jacks, Queens, and Kings have a value of 10, and Aces have a value of either 1 or 11, depending on whichever would be most beneficial to your current hand. If you are dealt a 'Ace' along with any face card, then you have a hand known as 'Blackjack', and you automatically win. First off, you place your bet before any cards are dealt. How much you bet depends on what the bet range is of the table, and how much money you currently have. After you've placed your bet, the cards will be dealt to both you and the dealer. You'll be able to see both of your cards, but only one of the dealer's. If the dealer's visible card is an 'ACE', then you will be given the option to buy 'Insurance'. Insurance is always 50% of your current bet, and you will pay it no matter what the outcome. If the dealer ends up having blackjack, then all you lose is whatever amont you paid for insurance. But if the dealer did not have blackjack, then he or she just pockets the insurance money, and the hand continues as usual. If you get dealt a 'Blackjack', then you automatically win the hand. After the cards have been dealt you will be given several options regarding what you want to do with your current hand of cards. 0---------------------------------------------------------------------0 | Stand: Keep the cards you have, and let the dealer continue. | | Split: If you have two of the same cards, you convert it into | | two seperate hands, which will be played against the | | dealer's hand individually. | | Hit: Take another card from the deck and add it to your hand.| |Double-Down: Double your bet and put it all on how much the next and | | only card you take from the deck will improve your hand.| | Surrender: Forfeit your bet to the dealer and begin another hand. | 0---------------------------------------------------------------------0 You should only 'Stand' if you are confident that the cards you currently possess are good enough to win, or if you are afraid that taking another card might cause you to "bust". You can only 'Split' if the two cards you have are both the same. Choosing to Split is always a gambe, because it can cause you to win both hands, lose both hands, or win one and lose one, thus "breaking even". However, if the two cards you have give you 20 in total, it is never a good idea to split. You should 'Hit' if you think the cards you currently have are not valuable enough to win against the dealers cards. You can hit as many times as you want, until you are either satisfied with the cards you have, or you get too many and you "bust". There is never really a good time to 'Double-Down'; it really just depends on how lucky you are. Anytime it is appropriate to 'Hit', it is an appropriate time to 'Double-Down', if you are feeling lucky that is. You should only 'Surrender' if you feel that you can't possibly win. But, as a situation like that is nearly impossible, you should never really opt to surrender. After you have decided what to do with your hand, the dealer will then choose what he or she wants to do, from the same options you had, and then they will reveal their entire hand to you. Whoever has the cards worth the highest value, without going over '21', is the winner of this hand. If the values of you and the dealer's hands are equal, or if both of you "bust", then the hand is declared a 'Push' and the money you bet is returned to you. ---------------------------- ==----------------== -==--------==-- The Rules of Poker --==--------==- \==----------------==/ First, you will have to place the "Ante" before any cards are dealt. An Ante is the money that you and the other player put down to begin the betting of the hand. The amount that you must Ante will vary from table to table. After you've placed your Ante, both you and your opponent are each dealt 5 cards. Take a minute to review your cards, and then the betting will continue. You now have the option to "Raise", which means that you increase the amont of money you are willing to bet, or "Call", which means that you only agree to match the current bet. You should Raise when you feel that you have a good chance of winning this hand, and you should Call if you aren't sure. But if you think you have no chance of winning this hand at all, then you should "Fold". To Fold means that you automatically forfeit all the money that you have currently bet, and the hand ends. After you and your opponent have agreed on the amount of money you are willing to bet on this hand, you will then get the oppourtunity to "Draw" cards from the deck. You can only Draw a maximum of 3 cards from the deck, and for each card you Draw from the deck, you must put one of the cards you currently possess back into the deck. Choose to "Hold" the cards that you do not want to return to the deck, and all of the other cards that are not Held will be exchanged for new cards. If you are content with the first 5 cards you are dealt, and you do not want any more, then choose to Hold all of the cards. The object of the game is to have a more valubale set of cards then your opponent. To add value to your hand, you must attempt to hold one of these specific combinations of cards. CARD VALUES ~ LISTED FROM LEAST VALUABLE TO MOST VALUABLE ~ 0-----------------------------------------------------------------------0 | | | One Pair: Two cards that have the same Number or Face value. | | Two Pair: Two different sets of pairs that do not all have | | the same Face or Number value. | | Three of a Kind: Three cards that have the same Number or Face value. | | Straight: Five cards that are all in numerical sequence. | | Flush: Five cards that are all of the same suit. | | Full-House: One Pair and Three of a Kind. | | Four-of-a-Kind: Four cards that have the same Number or Face value. | | Straight-Flush: Five cards that are all in numerical sequence, and | | all of the same suit. | | Royal-Flush: The 10, Jack, Queen, King, and Ace card, that are | | all of the same suit. | | | 0-----------------------------------------------------------------------0 This begins the second round of betting between you and your opponent. It will progress just as the first round of betting, and when the two of you have come into agreement, both of you will reveal your hands and a winner will be declared. The player with the most valuable hand is the winner. If both of you have the same combination, such as if both of you have two pair, then the player whose pairs contain the highest numbered cards is the winner. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ==============-----============== ----------Work the Tables-------- ==============-----============== You won't get anywhere in this casino if you don't know how to play the game. And now that you understand the basic rules, I'll clue you in on how the Casino kid works the table. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ==---------------== -==--------==-- The BlackJack Table --==--------==- \==---------------==/ At the beginning of a hand, as well as throughout the entire game, you use the 'A' Button to skip through the dialouge of the dealer and your opponent. When it is time to bet, use 'RIGHT' and 'LEFT' on the D-Pad to increase or decrease the value of your chips, and use 'DOWN' and 'UP' on the D-Pad to increase or decrease the amount of money that you place into the Pot. Then Press 'A' when you are at the amount you want to bet. You can never bet less then the Minimum Table Bet, or more than the Maximum Table Bet. If you wish to request that the game end, or ask if you can bet all of your remaining money on the next hand, then press the 'SELECT' Button before you place your Bet, and then press the 'A' Button to choose an option. But, your requests must be approved by your opponent first. After the cards have been dealt to your and your opponent, use the D-Pad to move the arrow around in the menu, and use the 'A' Button to choose the option that the small white arrow is currently pointing to. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ==-----------== -==--------==-- The Poker Table --==--------==- \==-----------==/ At the beginning of a hand, as well as throughout the entire game, you use the 'A' Button to skip through the dialouge of the dealer and your opponent.
