Casino Kid FAQ Copyrighted 1989 by Sofel Written By: Brian P. Sulpher E-Mail: briansulpher@hotmail.com Version 1.8 Date Written: July 18 through July 20, 2002 I dedicate this game to J&B's Video Game Store. Without there used games for sale, I never would have bought this gem of a game for my brother all those years ago. Also, for Cougar. I miss you, and I hope you are living it up in the afterlife as you did in this world. You will always be in my memories, and you will never be forgotten. ----------- Version 1.0 ----------- -Submitted on July 20th, 2002 ----------- Version 1.2 ----------- -Submitted December 4th, 2002 -Took out Unicode markers (back to ASCII) -Added map of Casino with locales of players marked ----------- Version 1.5 ----------- -Submitted guide on May 30th, 2003 -Reformatted for a more polished look -Fixed the Map Of Casino section to include complete KEYs ----------- Version 1.6 ----------- -Submitted guide on March 18th, 2004 -Reformatted a few areas of the FAQ ----------- Version 1.7 ----------- -Submitted guide on March 28th, 2005 -I added in Honestgamers as a site allowed to use my FAQs -Altered the format significantly to make the FAQ read a little bit better ----------- Version 1.8 ----------- -Submitted guide on June 22nd, 2005 -I added in Retronintendo as a site allowed to use my FAQs -Altered the format to make it easier on the eyes of the reader ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------Table of Contents------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) Introduction 2) Controls 3) Winning Hand Rankings 4) Blackjack Strategies 5) Order Of Playing Opponents 6) Location Of Opponents 7) Map Of Casino 8) Opponents Bios And Stats 9) Passwords 10)The Final Opponent 11)Final Words ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------Introduction---------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) This is a game about a youth (the "Casino Kid") entering the Golden Crumbs Casino to challenge eight poker and eight blackjack opponents. His goal is to get his winnings up to $1,000,000 from his meager start of $500. If Casino Kid can do the near impossible, he will get to face-off with a mystery opponent in a secret location in the ultimate showdown. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------Controls------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) The controls to get you where and what you need. D-Pad====> up, down, left, right all move you in the same direction pressed, left and right picks chip for betting, up and down picks amount of chip being betted. A Button=> the A button is to talk to people, to enter commends. B Button=> the B button cancels choices, also calls for new cards during poker allows fold during poker. Also, allows player to turn down playing an opponent (used to exit conversation). SELECT===> select calls for password when wandering the casino, allows player to ask for last hand/bet all money options when in play. START====> start has no function once you enter the game. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------Winning Hands Ranking--------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) This section will list the hierarchy of winning hands for poker from lowest hand rank to highest. High Card========> Five different non-sequential, at least two different suits, and no repeated cards. Usually not a good hand to bet large amounts on, but risk it if you feel lucky. One Pair=========> Having two cards the same, and three other different cards. These are fairly common, so you or your opponent can get these often. Two Pair=========> Having two cards the same, as well as another two the same, but different from the first pair. Also, a fifth card that is different from the rest. A solid hand to start betting a large amount of money to drain your opponent, but be wary of betting too much. Three of a Kind==> Having three cards the same, with two other different cards. A very good chance of winning the hand with this, but there are better combos to consider. Straight=========> Having five sequential cards, that are made up of more than one suit. Another solid hand to bet large amounts of money on. Flush============> Five non-sequential cards, all of the same suit. Hard to get, but will win hands more often than not. Full House=======> having three of a kind and a pair at the same time. Bet lots of money because this one is very hard to lose on. Four of a Kind===> Having all four of a card, and one other different card. When you enter this range of good cards, rarely will you see a better hand. This is a 98% of the time winner. Straight Flush===> Five sequential same suited cards. Even better chances of winning, so let us say a 99% of the time winner. Only time these rules do not make a straight flush is when the hand is a... Royal Flush======> This near impossible hand to get is when the five sequential same suit cards are: Ten, Jack, Queen, King, Ace. This hand is a guaranteed winner (except if someone else has a royal flush themselves). I have seen three of these myself; twice in this game, and once in real life. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------Blackjack Strategies------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) There are a few rules & thoughts to keep in mind when playing this very challenging strategic game. a) Keep in mind a dealer must stop hitting when they have 17 or higher. This also means that they can not stop short of 17 either (16 or less for the dealer means they must hit until they are 17 or higher). b) Blackjacks pay 3 to 2, which means you get back what you bet, an equal amount to that, plus an extra half of what you bet as a reward. c) If there is a tie, no winner is awarded, and you get your money back. This is called a "Push". d) You can not go over 21, so you must decide what number you will stop hitting (getting more cards) on. The general rule is to HIT until 14, then a player must decide how lucky they feel, what they think their opponent is holding, and what cards are gone (count what cards are gone since they only shuffle every so often). e) If you have two cards the same off of the deal, then you can choose the SPLIT option. This will make you have two hands instead of one. This means you can win double your money, but lose double your money. The key to success is to pick the right hand to split. What makes a good split hand you ask? Well, the following are all solid choices: two aces (the best because it can give two blackjacks), two tens, jacks, queens, kings (gets many twenties), and nine, eight for high scores with ten point cards. f) The DOUBLE DOWN is a big risk to take, but when done in the right situation, can make for a lot of quick success. This can be done when your card count off of the deal is 7 or higher. The dealer will tell you if your double-down is accepted, and then you receive one card, and the dealer can take as many cards (within the dealer rules) to try to beat your hand. A very good strategy is to double when your card count is from 9 to 11. This will yield a lot of 19,20, and 21 for you (win a lot) and even 12 or 13 is quite good to go on (good chance of not busting). g) If you want to try for a quick win, then use the bet all money strategy. This can be done after the dealer has shuffled once, and then only part way into the second set of deals. Usually it is better to have more money than they do. It is a good way to gain a lot of money if you want to risk all of your hard earned cash in one big gamble. This also applies to poker, but they have to offer it first before you can ask them for it. Many of your encounters will end in this fashion. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------Order of Playing Opponents---------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) This section will list the Blackjack and Poker opponents hierarchy of play (need to beat lowest to get to next one). a) Blackjack Opponents b) Poker Opponents Lisa Joseph | | v v Martha Stephen | | v v Tom Ted | | v v Harry Lloyd | | v v Stefany Whitney | | v v Clyde Jack | | v v Bo Pam | | v v Bruno Cindy \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ MUST DEFEAT BOTH / \ / \ TO GET TO / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / V THE FINAL OPPONENT c) This will show the order I follow when I play this game is: Lisa => Joseph => Martha => Stephen => Tom => Ted => Harry => Stephany => Lloyd => Whitney => Jack => Clyde => Bo => Pam => Cindy => Bruno The reason I alter from the almost always tried and true method of blackjack to poker and back method is because Lloyd has a large amount of money with high bet ranges (he also possesses unreasonably good luck). Extra money from quick blackjack victories (Harry and Stephany) allow the extra cash flow needed to take him on (and his lucky hits will not hurt you as much). The other spot that deviates form this is playing poker players Pam and Cindy to leave Bruno for last. This is done because Bruno is a tough opponent because of his high bankroll, so extra cash helps to get the best of him. This means you get a couple bet all money options to beat him. Also, it means it is the easiest way to get to the final opponent since he has no password to get directly to him (ie the last, mystery opponent). ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------Location Of Opponents----------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) This section will be divided into Blackjack and Poker opponents for an easier time locating them. o-----------o | Blackjack | o-----------o a) Lisa -> South between the poker room, and Stefany. b) Martha -> West above the bar, and to the left of Lloyd (Poker Player). c) Tom -> North-East Corner. d) Harry -> Just below Tom. e) Stefany -> just to left of Lisa. f) Clyde -> Just above and to the right of Lisa. g) Bo -> Right near the entrance, on other side of wall. h) Bruno -> Right with Pam, to the right of Bo near the 'N' Sign. o-------o | Poker | o-------o a) Joseph -> Just to the right of Poker Room. b) Stephen -> In North by three rows of slots. c) Ted -> In East by row of two slots. To right of Harry (Blackjack Player). d) Lloyd -> In West, by Martha’s table, just above bar. e) Whitney -> Below the Bar, in the South-West corner. f) Jack -> Right in the Poker Room. g) Pam -> Near the north, to the right of Stephen. Usually around. h) Cindy -> Right at the bottom of the hallway from the entrance. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------Map Of Casino--------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) This section will give a rough idea of where to find each card player in the Casino. _________________________________ KEY | | JOSEPH - 1st Poker Opponent | STEPHEN - 2nd Poker Opponent | Ted - 3rd Poker Opponent | Lloyd - 4th Poker Opponent | Whitney - 5th Poker Opponent | Jack - 6th Poker Opponent | Pam - 7th Poker Opponent | Cindy - 8th Poker Opponent | | _________________________________| _________________________________ KEY | | LISA - 1st Blackjack Opponent | MARTHA - 2nd Blackjack Opponent | TOM - 3rd Blackjack Opponent | HARRY - 4th Blackjack Opponent | STEFANY - 5th Blackjack Opponent | CLYDE - 6th Blackjack Opponent | BO - 7th Blackjack Opponent | BRUNO - 8th Blackjack Opponent | | _________________________________| +DOORS-------------------------------NORTH---------------------------------+ | BO | | TOM | | | | | | STEPHEN | | BRUNO | | | | | | PAM | | | | HARRY | |CINDY | | | | | | | | | | | | TED | | | | | | | | | W E E A S S T CLYDE T | | | MARGERET | | LLOYD | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | STEPHANY LISA | | | | | | | | | | JACK | | | | | | JOSEPH | | | | | | | +------------------------------------SOUTH---------------------------------+ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------Opponents Bios And Stats------------------------ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) This section will tell how much money an opponent has, the bet range, what game they play, Their speech patterns, their face mannerisms, what they say outside of playing, and what people in the casino know of there weaknesses. After winning against the final person left in the casino, you are magically whisked away to a large mansion, with scary music and crashing thunder! If this is not corny enough, you must put up with terrible music when you play him. You and King will both have $1,000,000, and it is a test of pure Poker skills with the bet range at a gigantic $10,000-$100,000!!! King is a guy in a purple hooded robe that has a large black head ornament with a spade and a large 'K'. All kidding aside, King bets insane amounts of money at a time ($30,000-$60,000), and always seems to get a slightly better hand than you. Play him the best you can, and bet large on hands you think you can win. Also remember that King is not possible to read, so figuring out what he has is just not possible. He says things like: "You're Pretty Tough, Casino Kid!" "I Won This Hand." "Alright!!" "I'm Fine." "Wheew..." "Hum..." "Glad You Folded!" "I Deceived You With My Poker Face!" "MMM!" "Now, You're The King Of The Casino!" When he wins, he gets the Japanese cartoon eyes (upside down frowns). When he loses, he gets all bug-eyed. When he says I will bet all I have on the next deal, you get no choice, he just does it. Sort of unfair, but you likely would have accepted regardless! When you win, you get to see the credits, and your award trophy (which is a Golden Hand holding up a Gold King of Spades, surrounded by Gold Laurels), and get treated to the credits. CONGRATULATIONS on winning the game, and I hope you had loads of fun!!! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------------Final Words------------------------------ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11)As is the usual, this walkthrough is copyright property of Brian P.
