Miscellaneous 9. Credits --------------- 1. INTRODUCTION --------------- I have noticed that there's lack of information regarding this game on the web, even though it is one of the best games I have ever played for Nintendo. Maybe it's because the game is in Japanese? I don't think so. Oh, and by the way, I know no Japanese. Anyway, I hope you'll find this FAQ useful, I think I have more than enough info to make this thing complete and accurable. -------------------------- 2. A LITTLE BIT OF INFO... -------------------------- OK, is this game really a sports game? Well, I don't think so. It's not like FIFA International Soccer or Goal!, and it's somehow unique. I mean, I have never seen/played a game like this one, except Captain Tsubasa 3 and a few other ones (read the Miscellaneous section for more info about those). A combination between Dragon Ball Z, Goal! and Pokemon maybe? I don't know... maybe. But I definitely wouldn't say it's just a 'sports game'. In this game, almost every character has his special move. Like Tsubasa's Drive Shot, for example. Well, so some would think that makes the game rather easy, cause you could be doing Cyclon and Neo Tiger shots all the time. Wrong. (Un)Fortunately, your players (not the CPU's, of course...) have 'guts'. The more you use your character, the less guts he'll have. Normal tackles or passcuts cost any character 50 guts, or even doing normal passes take 20 guts. Of all the characters you can control, Tsubasa is the one with the most guts (880 in the final match). The whole game is based on this guts. How many times did I say 'guts' in this paragraph??? There are 33 matches, and you get to play with 3 different teams (Sao Paulo, Nankatsu and Japan). The game is very hard, especially from the third part of the game to the final match. ------------ 3.CHARACTERS ------------ This is a long list... OK, I'll arrange the characters by country. I'll mention his name, team, default position (in his national team) and special move(s). ===== JAPAN ===== 11. NITTA - Nankatsu Falcon Shot (200 guts) Falcon Volley Shot (240 guts) 10. Tsubasa 9. Gil 8. Babington 7. Marini 6. Tahamata 5. Amaral 4. Dotoru 3. Lima 2. Platon GK. Renato Your best players are Tsubasa, Babington (who plays in Argentina), Gil (your best striker), Amaral and Dotoru (they play in Brazil). ************************ SAO PAULO vs. FLUMINENSE ************************ Fluminense has no important players, the strikers won't do much against your GK Renato. Tsubasa, Babington and Gil will easily score against Fluminense's GK. ************************* SAO PAULO vs. CORINTHIANS ************************* Corinthians: 10. Ribeiro 9. Satrustegui Satrustegui (who also plays in Argentina) is a very good striker. GK Renato will be unable to stop his powerful Blast Head Shot. Mark him with Tsubasa and most of the time choose Passcut, because Satrustegui usually does a lot of One-Two's to reach your GK area and strike. Also, Ribeiro plays in Corinthians. Though he's not that good, his Banana Shot is still dangerous. Mark him with Dotoru and Amaral, tackle him a lot and also try to block his shots. Since both DFs are very good, this should be pretty effective. Use Tsubasa to score. Don't worry about special shots thought, a few head shots should be enough. ******************** SAO PAULO vs. GREMIO ******************** Gremio: 9. DaSilva GK. Meao This match isn't really hard. After striking GK Meao a few times (in vain), Tsubasa will do his Drive Overhead Kick and you will automatically score. But you still have to worry about DaSilva. He is unstoppable. No matter who tackles him, you won't take the ball away from this guy. His shots are pretty good (epecially his volley shots) and he almost always scores. Tip: do not use Tsubasa to strike before he does the Drive Overhead Kick, it would just be a waste of guts. Better use less important players, like Batista, til Tsubasa finally gets mad. Oh, and after scoring for the first time, it won't be necessary to do the Drive Overhead Kick again. Overhead Kicks will almost always do against Meao. *********************** SAO PAULO vs. PALMEIRAS *********************** Palmeiras: 10. Nei 8. Toninho Nei's dribbling is almost as good as DaSilva's. You should mark him with Tsubasa, Dotoru and Amaral. Their tackling skills are really good. Renato is almost impotent against Nei's Booster Shot. The other problem here is Toninho. His shots are pretty good, and he also has a Drive Shot. His dribbling isn't that good, so you better mark him with the rest of your DF, and Tsubasa if he's in the midfield, before he's close enough to shoot. Use Tsubasa, Gil and Babington to strike. ******************** SAO PAULO vs. SANTOS ******************** Santos: 9. Zagalo 4. Dirceu Zagalo has a very powerful shot and dribbling. Try to mark him with Dotoru, Amaral and Tsubasa. Dirceu's Cannon Head Shot isn't that much of a danger. It will blow Renato away, but that will be enough to clear the ball away. Again, use Tsubasa, Gil and Babington to strike. ********************** SAO PAULO vs. FLAMENGO ********************** Flamengo: 10. Santana 8. Santamaria 4. Jetorrio Santana's Mirage Shot is impossible to stop. His dribbling is also pretty good. Most of the time, he will easily go past your DF. He can score with his shot from almost anywhere in the field. Mark him with Tsubasa, Dotoru and Amaral. Santamaria has a Banana Shot. Renato should be able to stop half his shots, but try to block them with your DF anyway. Jetorrio is a really good DF. He'll easily stop or slow down your shots. Be sure not to shoot when he's close. Strike with Tsubasa. ============================= PART II - JAPANESE TOURNAMENT ============================= Your team is Nankatsu: 11. Kizugi 10. Misaki 9. Nitta 8. Taki 7. Isawa 6. Urabe 5. Nakayama 4. Ishizaki 3. Takasugi 2. Kishida GK. Morisaki Your best players are Misaki, Nitta, Ishizaki, Kizugi and Taki. They play in the Japanese national team. ******************* NANKATSU vs. KUNIMI ******************* Kunimi: 9. Sano 4. Jito Jito is a very good DF. His Sanotono Combi Shot is very powerful and Morisaki will find it really hard to stop. Also, Sano's overhead kick is a problem for your GK. Mark Jito with Misaki and Ishizaki, and mark Sano with your whole DF. Strike with Misaki and Nitta, but be careful because the GKs keep getting better and better. ****************** NANKATSU vs. AKITA ****************** Akita: 11. Kozuo Tachibana 9. Masao Tachibana These brothers are really dangerous. Their combos are unstoppable... Don't let them reach the goal keeper area, their shots are extremely hard to stop. Mark them with Misaki, Taki, Ishizaki and Takasugi. ******************* NANKATSU vs. KUNAMI ******************* Kunami: 4. Soda GK. Nakanishi DF Soda is a threat. His tackles and shots are really good. He won't score if he shoots from a long distance, though. GK Nakanishi isn't really dangerous. He's not that good. You can easily score this way: put either Nitta or Misaki in front of him and shoot. Don't try to dribble though, cause that would be a waste of guts. ******************** NANKATSU vs. MUSASHI ******************** Musashi: 10. Misugi (only during the second half) Even though Misugi is not in the team for the first half, this match is really hard to win. Musashi's strikers and GK are pretty good. Misugi's shots are dangerous, especially his Diving Overhead Kick. Tip: concentrate hard on scoring in the first match (use Nitta and Misaki to strike all the time), and in the second half when Misugi enters the game, concentrate on defending and marking him with your best players (Misaki, Ishizaki). You can even switch to 'Press' in the DF box in your team's options. ******************* NANKATSU vs. FURANO ******************* Furano: 10. Matsuyama This team is really fast. Their passes are very good. Matsuyama's Eagle Shot is extremely hard to stop. Mark him with Ishizaki and Misaki. Concentrate on reaching Furano's GK area, and passing the ball to Nitta and Misaki. Don't put the ball at stake. Use Taki, Misaki and Nitta to dribble. ***************** NANKATSU vs. TOHO ***************** Toho: 10. Sorimachi 9. Hyuga 8. Sawada GK. Wakashimazu This match is really difficult. Each time Hyuga gets the ball... well, just pray. Mark him with Misaki and Ishizaki. The best way to score with Nitta is going next to Wakashimazu and do his Falcon Shot. You can also do this with Misaki, it's really effective. =========================== PART III - FRIENDLY MATCHES =========================== Your team is Sao Paulo. ***************************** SAO PAULO vs. AS ROMA (Italy) ***************************** AS Roma: 9. Rampion Rampion's Head Shot is very powerful, almost unstoppable. But this match isn't really hard. The rest of AS Roma is weak. Use Tsubasa, Babington and Gil to strike. But also use Tsubasa to mark Rampion in the midfield. Also mark him with Dotoru and Amaral. ********************* SAO PAULO vs. URUGUAY ********************* Uruguay: 10. Victoriano 9. DaSilva Victoriano's shots are pretty good (especially his Overhead Kick). Mark him hard. DaSilva... well, you have already met this guy back in the third match. He's a pain in the ass... Tsubasa's Drive Shot isn't very effective against the uruguayan goalie. Always make Tsubasa shoot when he's very near the GK. Mark DaSilva and Victoriano with Dotoru and Amaral. ********************************** SAO PAULO vs. HAMBURG SV (Germany) ********************************** Hamburg SV: 10. Cappellmann 8. Kaltz 5. Mezza GK. Wakabayashi Cappellmann's Side Wind Shot is a threat. Kaltz shots and dribbling are good too. Mezza is really good at cutting passes. Wakabayashi is the best goalie in Japan. Tsubasa's Drive Shot and Drive Overhead Kick are not that effective against this guy. Shoot only when you're next to Wakabayashi. Mark Kaltz with Tsubasa, and mark Cappellmann with Dotoru and Amaral. ******************* SAO PAULO vs. JAPAN ******************* Japan: 11. Nitta/Misugi 10. Misaki 9. Hyuga 8. Kozuo Tachibana 7. Mazao Tachibana 6. Sawada 5. Matsuyama 4. Ishizaki 3. Jito 2. Soda GK. Wakashimazu Wakashimazu will stop all your shots, except for the Drive Shot and Drive Overhead Kick. And Overhead Kick too, if you're lucky. If you can, make Tsubasa go next to him and then shoot, but that will be hard because their DF is very strong. Do the same with Gil and Babington. Mark Hyuga with Dotoru and Amaral, and mark Misuki with Tsubasa. You can also strike with Babington, and see what happens... years ago, I thought this match was impossible. Now I think it's almost impossible. =================== PART IV - ASIAN CUP =================== Your team is Japan: 11. Nitta 10. Tsubasa 9. Hyuga 8. Misaki 7. Kozuo Tachibana 6. Mazao Tachibana 5. Matsuyama 4. Ishizaki 3. Jito 2. Soda GK. Wakashimazu Your best players are Tsubasa, Hyuga, Misaki, Misugi and Wakabayashi. *************** JAPAN vs. SYRIA *************** Syria isn't a very good team. They will score a couple times if you just goof around though. Their GK will sometimes stop some of your shots, but he's not that good really. Don't think that just because Wakabayashi and Wakashimazu are on your team you won't have a hard time tryin to stop the opponent's shots... what I do is put Wakashimazu first and constantly do his Rolling Sabot. When he runs out of guts, I put Wakabayashi. This is the best way to handle your GKs. Tip: From now til the end of the game, Tsubasa will be able to do his powerful Twin Shot with Hyuga (once in each match). In every match he gets mad if the goalie stops a lot of shots. Well, after he gets mad, pass him the ball and shoot! *************** JAPAN vs. CHINA *************** China: 11. Bankun Lee 9. Hanne Lee The Lee bros really are quiet annoying. They don't have very good skills for dribbling or pass cutting, but their Shuryokyku Shot is unstoppable. Try to prevent them from reaching your area. Strike with Tsubasa, Misaki, Hyuga and Matsuyama. Oh, and replace Nitta with Misugi in the second half and use him to strike too. By the way, NEVER use Misugi too much, because if he's got less than 100 guts when the match ends, he'll have 0 guts in the next match. ************** JAPAN vs. IRAN ************** This team doesn't have any stars, but they're still pretty good. They like to play rough, and their skills for shooting, passing, tackling and passcutting are good. They will surely score many times if you aren't careful. After playing a couple of times against these guys I realized that whenever they mark one of your players they ALWAYS tackle him, always. So if one of your players gets marked, pass the ball to another player. Especially if the guy being marked isn't Tsubasa. *********************** JAPAN vs. CHINA TAI PEI *********************** They are very good at shooting and passcutting. Use Tsubasa, Hyuga, Misaki and Misugi to strike. And try to put Nitta next to the GK and doing his Falcon shot, that could be useful... **************** JAPAN vs. ARABIA **************** They play very rough, their shots are very good and their GK is also pretty good. Concentrate hard on defending, since you won't score many goals in this match. You should put at least one of the Tachibana brothers in the DF. Their Sky Lab tackle and passcut are very effective. To score, try to put Hyuga and Tsubasa next to their GK and shoot. *************** JAPAN vs. KOREA *************** Korea: 10. Kimu 9. Sya Not only they play rough and have good skills, but their two strikers, Sya and Kimu, will be a nightmare for your goalie. Their Twin Shot is very powerful. Their normal shots are dangerous too. Keep those two guys out of your area. Yet again, use Hyuga, Tsubasa, Misaki and Misugi to strike. Mark Sya with Jito and Soda (always use their special tackles), and mark Kimu with Ishizaki (use his Gammen Block). ======== PART III ======== ******************************** JAPAN vs. VASCO DA GAMA (Brazil) ******************************** This is a friendly match (I'd call it filler). It's very easy. **************** JAPAN vs. POLAND **************** Poland: 9. Maher GK. Yaisch Maher is one of the fastest players in the game, his volley shots are very good. Mark him with Jito, Soda, and the Tachibana brothers. Their special tackles are very powerful. GK Yaisch is hard to beat. The only shot that will surely score is the Twin Shot between Hyuga and Tsubasa. But one goal is not enough for this match. You should get Tsubasa or Hyuga next to Yaisch and do the Drive Shot/Tiger Shot. It could work with Matsuyama or Nitta too. ***************** JAPAN vs. ENGLAND ***************** England: 9. Lorimar 4. Robson Lorimar's shots are very powerful, even though he doesn't have a special shot. Mark him with Jito, Soda and the Tachibana brothers. Robson is a pretty good DF, but not a major threat. Just don't shoot when he's next to you. **************** JAPAN vs. RUSSIA **************** Russia: 9. Beraev GK. Rashin Beraev is as dangerous as Lorimar, so mark him heavily. And Rashin, the Russian goalie, will stop all your shots. Always get your players next to him and shoot. Actually, it's only gonna work if you do that with Tsubasa, Hyuga, Nitta, Matsuyama, Misaki or Misugi. If Hyuga's level is high, there is a chance that he will score with his Neo Tiger shot even if he's not near Rashin. **************** JAPAN vs. FRANCE **************** France: 10. Pierre 9. Napoleon One thing I instantly noticed about this team is their incredible pass and passcutting abilities. They always cut your passes and not even Tsubasa can cut theirs. Strike with Hyuga (very effective) and Tsubasa. You should be really worried about the French combi, Pierre and Napoleon. Their Twin Shot is unstoppable, so do not let them reach your area. How? I don't know, good luck. Pierre and Napoleon also have their individual shots. You shouldn't worry much about Napoleon, but mark Pierre with Ishizaki and do his Gammen Block. ===================================== PART IV - THE SUB 16 WORLD TOURNAMENT ===================================== **************** JAPAN vs. MEXICO **************** Mexico: 9. Espana Their only star is striker Espana. His shots and dribbling are very good. But it still isn't very hard to win. Mark Espana with Jito, Soda and the Tachibana brothers. Oh, and mark him with Ishizaki if you want to stop shots with his Gammen Block. Strike with Hyuga, Tsubasa and Misaki. *************** JAPAN vs. ITALY *************** Italy: 9. Rampion GK. Fernandez You have already met Rampion. His Rampion Head Shot is extremely powerful. And GK Fernandez is one of the best goalies in the game. Score with the Twin Shot between Hyuga and Tsubasa. Once you have scored, let Tsubasa, Misaki and Misugi control the ball. For example, if Tsubasa has the ball and someone's about to mark him, pass the ball to Misaki. Misaki should pass the ball to Misugi, and Misugi to Tsubasa. Trust me, it's very useful. I chose these 3 players, cause they have the best skills. ***************** JAPAN vs. HOLLAND ***************** Holland: 9. Isurasu 4. Libuta Isurasu's shots and dribbling are excellent. You better watch out. DF Libuta likes to play rough. Make sure he's not in front of you when you're about to shoot. He'll probably stop the shot. Mark Isurasu with the Tachibana brothers and your whole DF. ******************* JAPAN vs. ARGENTINA ******************* Argentina: 11. Batin 10. Diaz 9. Satrustegui 8. Babington 4. Galvan Argentina is one of the best teams in the game (and in real life too!). Diaz will easily dribble all your players (goalie included). He has a Drive Shot, like Tsubasa. And his Zenten Shot is hard to stop. The other threat in Argentina is Satrustegui. His Blast Head Shot is unstoppable. It will easily blow away your goalie and the whole DF too! Galvan is the best DF in the game. He can block almost every shot and he has great passcutting and tackling skills. Um... good luck! ***************** JAPAN vs. GERMANY ***************** Germany: 11. Schneider 10. Schester 9. Margus 8. Kaltz 7. Cappellmann 5. Mezza GK. Muller Schneider will score with his Fire Shot from almost anywhere in the field, so try to mark him with Ishizaki to stop the shot with his Gammen Block. Kaltz has a very powerful dribbling, mark him with Jito, Soda and/or the Tachibana brothers. Cappellmann's Side Wind Shot is hard to stop. Especially when he does it in corner kicks. Mezza has great passing and passcutting skills. GK Muller is very good. Try to get Hyuga next to him and shoot. He will probably score with his Neo Tiger Shot. And, of course, do Tsubasa's Cyclone Shot no matter where he is. You will always score. **************** JAPAN vs. BRAZIL **************** Brazil: 11. Nei 10. Ribeiro/Coimbra 9. Santana 8. Toninho 7. Zagalo 6. Santamaria 5. Dirceu 4. Dotoru 3. Amaral 2. Jetorrio GK. Gertize Gertize is a nightmare. He can even stop Tsubasa's Cyclone Shot. The most dangerous players in the Brazilian team are Santana, Zagalo, Coimbra (who enters in the second half). Their shots are unstoppable, their dribbling is very good. Try to mark any of them with Ishizaki to do his Gammen Block and stop their shots. That's it, Japan (?!) is the world champion. Well, lots of blah blah blah in Japanese. Cute tunes. The end. ------------------------ 5. PASSWORDS ------------ Just take a look at the images that come with this FAQ. ----------------------------- 7. Frequently Asked Questions ----------------------------- 7a - Is it true that I can play Captain Tsubasa II on my PC? Duh. 7b - Where can I find the file? Well, it's a NES file. It runs under Nintendo/Famicom emulators. The most popular emulator is NESticle. You can find it at www.zophar.net. You can find the game in a few web sites. There are lots of sites that contain NES files (or NES ROMs), but most of them don't have this game, since it's not very popular. Anyway, you can download it from this site: http://www.fortunecity.com/rivendell/sakura/165/ct_sflash.htm The site is in Spanish (I haven't found one in English yet), but it's pretty easy to figure out which is the game you want to download. Just click on the file name and download. You can find all the games for NES, SNES, SEGA, and Gameboy in this page, and the emulators, so it's pretty cool. 7c - Where can I find the music for this game? This game has got some excellent tunes. Its music can be found in an NSF file. These files are music from Nintendo games that can actually be played by Winamp or some other programs. You can download Winamp at www.winamp.com (freeware) You can download the plugin for Winamp that allows you to play NSF files at www.nofrendo.org The plugin is called Nosefart (do NOT download the program cause it sux, just download the plugin). You can find the NSF file at www.zophar.net 7d - Are there any cheat codes for the game? Yeah. In the main screen (KICK OFF and PASSWORD options), hold: A+B+START+SELECT This will take you to the Sound Test Room. Also, there are a couple of passwords that will take you to the match against Iran, but with full energy, god mode, super high level, whatever you want to call it. Just take a look at the images that come with this FAQ. For more passwords, see the Passwords section. 7e - Are there any other Captain Tsubasa video games? Yeah: NINTENDO: 'Captain Tsubasa' SUPER NINTENDO: 'Captain Tsubasa III: The challenge of the Kaiser' 'Captain Tsubasa IV: Pro Rivals' 'Captain Tsubasa V: Super Champions' 'Captain Tsubasa J: Youth Version' GAME BOY: 'Captain Tsubasa VS' 'Captain Tsubasa J' PLAYSTATION: 'Captain Tsubasa: Get in the tomorrow' SEGA CD: 'Captain Tsubasa' And there's a game for Sega Genesis: 'Tecmo Cup Football Game'. It has nothing to do with Tsubasa's story line, but it's pretty much the same game. The 'tsubasa' in this game is Robert. It looks a lot like Captain Tsubasa III. 7f - Are there any translations for Captain Tsubasa II? Nope, sorry. But here's a link to the translation for Captain Tsubasa for NES, by Lestat. http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Pines/9462/tsubasa1.htm ---------------- 8. MISCELLANEOUS ---------------- Tips for Japan: - Tsubasa will be able to do his powerful Twin Shot with Hyuga (once in each match). In every match he gets mad if the goalie stops a lot of shots. Well, after he gets mad, pass him the ball and shoot! - Put Wakashimazu first and constantly do his Rolling Sabot. When he runs out of guts, I put Wakabayashi. This is the best way to handle your GKs. - Always replace Nitta with Misugi in the second half of the match. - NEVER use Misugi too much, because if he's got less than 100 guts when the match ends, he'll have 0 guts in the next match. - Once you have scored, let Tsubasa, Misaki and Misugi control the ball. For example, if Tsubasa has the ball and someone's about to mark him, pass the ball to Misaki. Misaki should pass the ball to Misugi, and Misugi to Tsubasa. Trust me, it's very useful. I chose these 3 players, cause they have the best skills. General tips: - If you want your DF to mark heavily, switch to 'Press' in the DF box in your teams options. The box will appear if you choose the second option. Switch to the last option. Damn! This would be easier if the game was in English! - If you want the matches to be easier, you should lose a couple of times and replay the matches. This will increase your players' levels and the game will be easier. This isn't cheating, by the way. ---------- 9. CREDITS ---------- John Roa, cause I borrowed some stuff from his 'Captain Tsubasa 3' FAQ The Introduction: the first part of the Introduction is like the intro of his FAQ. The Layout: I guess some parts kinda look like the layout in his FAQ. Anyway, I didn't give him credit in the version 0.1. I know it made me look like a freaking ripper but it was just a mistake. I'd just like to give him credit and apologize for the inconvenience. His FAQ is also available at www.gamefaqs.com Any comments/suggestions/information about the game/money/Hot Pamela Anderson pictures you want to send to me?: veryloko@yahoo.com
