Released in 1991. =============================================================================== Introduction ************ Bo Jackson was one of the most successful baseball players. It is a really good sport simulation compared to many other games. =============================================================================== Controls ******** Pitching: Direction Pad Point to the desired pitch, move pitcher left/right, alter pitch movement while in the air A Type of pitch, throw the pitch at speed B Pick-off Offense: Direction Pad Batting Style, base to run to, steal bases. A Batting Style, run back to base. B Run forward to base. Steal base. Defense: Direction Pad Move defensive players on the field, point to bases A Dive/Jump for ball, throw ball to base. B Run to base. On the team selection you can pick from any available team. Player 1 always chooses first. Confirm your selection with the A button. After choosing your team, the Lineup Screen will appear. Use the SELECT button to move to different sections. Finish this mode with "End Team Set-Up" and press A. Your first decision will be your starting pitcher. Once you've determined which pitcher you want to start the game, move the arrow to that pitcher's name and press the A button. The original starter and the one you just selected will swap places. Your batters are listed in order from 1 to 9. To move a player to a different spot in the order, move the arrow to that player's number i nthe order and press A. Then move the arrow to the spot in which you want to place that player and press A again. When you are all done, press SELECT. The player's positions are listed to the right of their names. To move a player to a different position, move the arrow to that player's listed position and press A. Use right on the control pad until the desired position you want for that player appears. Press A again to swap position. Press SELECT when done. There are a number of substitutes, select them to exchange with your existing roster. Settings: Toggle Music On/Off Toggle Icons On/Off No. of Innings 5 to 9 Difficulty: Little League (least), Big League, All Star League (most) Screen View: Batter, Normal (from Pitcher's View- 2P is always Batter) Steals: Allow stealing while icons are on or not Playoff Games: 3, 5 or 7 Replays: On/Off Display: Top Left: Base Runners Bottom: Player Data Icons in the middle Scoreboard provides the current score and game data. =============================================================================== Modes ***** Player vs. NES One player game against the computer. Player vs. Player Two players against each other. NES vs. NES Demonstration game with bot hteams controlled by the computer. Play Offs Play the play offs. The Play Offs are a four-team play off series followed by a championship series for the two winners. All game set-ups operated just like in normal games except that four teams are selected, there is a team overview of the current standings, you can choose NES vs NES Quick to skip a game you are not playing yourself. =============================================================================== Pitching ******** There are five different pitches you can throw, each one has three different speeds. Up: Change Up Left: Slider Right: Curve Down: Fast Ball Center:Knuckler Press A to choose. Next you must position your pitcher. Move him right or left. For different speeds: Up + A: Slow A: Medium Down + A: Fast Remember that fast throws wear out the pitcher quickly. When you are pitching, press the B button with the direction for a base to tell the runners to get there. Up: 2nd Base Left: 3rd Base Right: 1st Base Down: Home Press SELECT to substitute the pitcher. Pick a new one with the A button. =============================================================================== Defense ******* The player you are in control will be flashing. Move him around with the control pad. Simply move him where the ball will land to catch it. Use A to jump. Jump straight up for balls above your head, or use Left and Right to jump into that direction and dive for balls. Use the control pad to throw at a desired base with the A button once you have the ball in your hands. Up: 2nd Base Left: 3rd Base Right: 1st Base Down: Home Run to the desired base with the B button. =============================================================================== Batting ******* Use the control pad with the A button for a desired bat. Up: Power Left: Bunt to 3rd Right: Bunt to 1st Down: Contact Center: Normal Contact will reduce the power but increase chances to make contact with the ball. Power increases the power but reduces the chances to make contact. When you press the A button, make sure you get the timing right. Press SELECT to bring in a pinch hitter for the one that is supposed to be batting right now. =============================================================================== Bases ***** Batters will run automatically after the ball is hit. Once he reaches first base the controls are in your hand. Use the control pad to make the players run to the desired base. Up: 2nd Base Left: 3rd Base Right: 1st Base Down: Home Run there with the B button, run back to the previous one with the A button. The runners are shown as small helmets in the upper right corner of the screen. You may steal bases while the pitcher is not being careful, by simply starting to run before the batter hits the ball. There are options to make stealing possible while you the icons are still on the screen. =============================================================================== Player Ratings ************** Pitchers: ERA - Earned Run Average. This number indicates how many earned runs the listed pitcher allows statistically in an average nine-inning game. ST - Stamina. Rated from 1 (lowest) to 5 (highest), this rating indicates how durable the listed pitcher is. CO - Control. Rated from 1 (lowest) to 5 (highest), this rating indicates how good the listed pitcher's control is. Others: BA - Batting Average. This is the statistical likelihood, on a percentage basis, of the listed player getting at least a base hit. SL - Slugging Percentage. The player's ratio of total bases to time at bat - it's an effective way of determining your power hitters. SP - Speed. Rated from 1 (lowest) to 5 (highest), how fast the player is. TH - Throwing Ability. Rated from 1 (lowest) to 5 (highest), how hard and fast the player throws. =============================================================================== Strategy ******** - Pitching is most important part of the game, learn this first. - Strong hitters are good, but running bases is equally important. - In the long run you must be good in defense. - It might not be a big factor of the game, but steal bases wherever you can. - Line-ups can decide games, consider this carefully. - Take Bo Jackson into your lineup if you get the chance.
