What's New -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Version 1.0 (8/20/10): The first version of this FAQ. ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 2. Introduction -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Bakushou!! Jinsei Gekijou 2 is the second life simulator game in this series for the Famicom. It is largely molded on the Game of Life, where you start off as children and work your way through to retirement. A wide variety of events can occur depending entirely on the luck of what spaces you land and the events that follow. I would say this one is a bit more simplistic and straightforward than the first game in the series, so if I had to pick one, I would suggest playing this one. If you like life simulation board games, that is. It is fun, but considering how randomly things can occur, this may not be the type of game for everyone. ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 3. Controls -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Control Pad: Move cursor on menu screens Start: Start game A: Make selection on menu screens, roll dice, perform action during events ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 4. Overview -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ================ General Gameplay ================ When you first start the game, you will first be asked how many human and computer players there are (there must be a total of four players in this game). After that, you can enter your name (up to four Kana characters). Once you finish that, you can pick your gender and blood type (A, B, O, AB). Next, you can select the hair, eyes, and face of your character. Once you do that, press A and the computer players will be randomly generated before the game begins. Since this is a life simulator, you start off as an infant. You work your way through schooling, then onward to adulthood, and ultimately to retirement. The game is complete when you reach the final Goal space at the end of your retirement. Your ultimate goal is to end the game with the most money, and how you fare through the game will determine this outcome. Each player takes a turn rolling the dice to determine the number of spaces they will move that turn (1-6). Movement occurs automatically, and the event pertaining to the space you land on will randomly occur before the next player gets a turn. New to this game is a menu screen that can be accessed before you roll the dice. The options are as follows: Roll Dice (サイコロ): Roll the dice. Status (ステイタス): View your character's status, including money earned, statistics, love progress, and items currently held. Scroll (スクロール): Scroll left/right across the current map section. ============ Infant Stage ============ The first six spaces of the game board are the infancy period. There are mainly normal spaces in this section, with one Luck space. Up ahead is the primary school, as designated by the Short Stop space immediately after the Luck space. If you pass this space, you automatically enter the school. You will also receive 20,000 Yen for arriving at primary school. The spaces that follow the Short Stop are part of the next stage. On one of the normal spaces during infancy, you may be given a dog as a pet. There are more details about this later. ============== Primary School ============== Upon arriving in primary school, you will see some new types of spaces, including the Study and Exercise spaces. Up ahead, you will see a split in the course you can take. When you get to the Short Stop space, you will be asked what course you want: Intelligence (まなべ) or Exercise (あそべ). Of course, your statistics will be affected depending on what you pick. Regardless of the course yuo take, there will be a Short Stop space at the point where the path becomes one again. You will have to take a test there to graduate primary school. The results of this test are based on your stats thus far, as follows: Intelligence Course: Exercise Course: INT: 8, 0 points, Luck -2 STR: ~14, fail, Luck -2 INT: 9-14, 70 points, Luck +1 STR: 15, pass, Luck +3 INT: 15, 100 points, Luck +3 After you pass the test, there will be another Short Stop space ahead which leads to middle school. Get to that space and you will get 50,000 Yen, then continue to the next stage. Other Information ----------------- If you take the Intelligence course, the northeast corner space will send you to play a mini-game of Space Invaders. You have a ship at the bottom of the screen and the enemies slowly move back and forth above, shooting at you as well. Press A to fire shots upward; one shot will kill each enemy. Defeated enemies will drop coins, good for 1 point each. The UFO that flies over the top area drops 3 coins. Try to kill enemies quickly and grab coins later. You need to get at least 45 points to pass the test later. If you take the Exercise course, one of the normal spaces sends you to a basketball mini-game. You play against an opponent while attempting to make shots into the center basket. If you win, you get Physical Strength +3; lose and you get -2 on that statistic. ============= Middle School ============= Here in middle school, you now have three paths to take at the Short Stop space. You can participate in club activities (ぶかつどう), stay at home (きたくぶ), or go to cram school (じゅくがよい), from top to bottom. Going home means you only get normal spaces; the club activities have a mixture of everything above, and the cram school is more study-oriented. Regardless of the path you take, once the path rejoins and you reach the Short Stop space, you will have graduated and continue on to high school. You get 80,000 Yen as a reward, too. =========== High School =========== This is the third level of education you go through in the game. The path splits again into two, but it seems to be randomly selected which way you will go. You are asked to blow into the Famicom II Controller's microphone, which will affect your Physical Strength stat. It is possible that upon entry to high school, you can earn a 300,000 Yen scholarship, but you would need to have high Intelligence for that. In the middle of this stage, you will see a small path connecting the two. It is possible to get stuck in that area if you are not doing well enough to proceed to graduation. When you reach the large building at the end of both courses, the Short Stop space will be where you choose what happens next. You will be able to either seek employment immediately (しゅうしょく) or go on to university (しんがく). If you decide to go to university, you will get an additional 100,000 Yen when you get to the Full Stop space ahead. Other Information ----------------- On certain normal spaces, a kidnapping event can occur where your player is taken hostage in a barrel. You will then have to play a mini-game involving them. Each player takes turns thrusting a knife into a different part of the barrel, and the player who hits the person inside the barrel loses. Their Luck statistic will also decrease by 3. There is another mini-game involving skydiving from a plane. There are four coins in the sky and you need to move back and forth to collect them all, AND land on the target below, to succeed. If you fail, you get Luck -3; if you win, it is Luck +3 for you. The key to this game is to not move so harshly; simple tapping of Left/Right will suffice. Along the bottom path, one of the normal spaces has a store where you can spend your money and buy an item if you want for 50,000 Yen. There will be more details on items in a later section of the guide. There is also a karaoke-style mini-game, which involves using the microphone in the II Famicom Controller. If you do well at this event, it opens up being a Pop Idol as a potential job up ahead. =============== Young Adulthood =============== After leaving high school, regardless of what track you take, you are now in the young adulthood phase of life. Starting off, you take a single path no matter what course you are on. The path does split up ahead, with the spaces leading to it filled with Job Hunt spaces. If you are on the university track at this point, these spaces act like normal spaces. If you went right for employment from high school, you can pick from three random jobs based on your skills and statistics. When you reach the Full Stop space, the path will split. The upper path is yours if you chose to go to university, otherwise you are on the bottom path. What level of university you go to is determined by your stats: Top University: 25+ Intelligence, +180,000 Yen Sports University: 25+ Physical Strength, +90,000 Yen Pass a Vacancy Test: 20+ Luck, nothing happens Throughout your stay in the university track, you can land on Job Hunt spaces and get a job while in school. This can be beneficial to you when you finally graduate. At the end of the university track, there will be a Full Stop space which tells you that you have graduated! Dating ------ In this stage, regardless of the track taken, you will find more Love spaces. Land on them and you will be able to go on dates with the opposite gender. Initially, you can pick from two people (right or left), then go from there. If you go on the right dates with the right person, you will accumulate hearts. Get five hearts next to your name and you will marry that person. At the marriage screen, you can use the II Controller's microphone to make noise if you do NOT want the marriage to go on. This is optional, but if you stay silent, the marriage will commence. At least you receive a monetary bonus for getting married! You can check on the status of your progress with any people you've dated by selecting the "Status" option when your turn comes up. Job Hunting ----------- If you land on the Job Hunt space, you will be able to select from three random jobs relevant to your skill level. If you did well singing, for instance, that will be a possible option. You can not turn down a job, but once you pick one, the results can be random. There are 12 possible jobs, and they are detailed in a later section of the guide. Once you have a job, be VERY careful about landing on another Job Hunt space, as you will have to give up your current position and move on to something possibly less attractive. Dating Chart ------------ Because of the high amount of information involved, please consult the large table near the middle of this page for date information: http://hccweb1.bai.ne.jp/~hde37001/life2/life23.html The chart will show you the face of each type of person you can date. Just below each picture is a bonus showing how your stats will increase after each date with them. Farther below, you will see a list of date types and how many hearts you will gain by taking your date to that location. You need five hearts to marry the person. The big bonus is when you get married, since you will receive money and get to go on a honeymoon trip to further boost your stats! Other Information ----------------- On some normal spaces, you will meet an old man who will challenge you to a mini-game of sorts. You are sent out to a field with holes, and two types of men will pop out of the holes at random. Step on the black-haired man's head and get a point; step on the old man and you lose all of your points. If you get more than 16 points, you will win. The reward is that you can choose a statistic to give a +5 boost to! ========= Adulthood ========= Once the path reconverges after the university track, you will be in the next stage of adulthood. There will be a LOT of Love spaces ahead, as well as a couple of Money spaces for you to collect your salary at. If you are doing well and luck is on your side, you will be bumped up a rank when you get paid! Now that you get a salary, you will receive money for your job at Money spaces. You can also receive bonuses based upon certain circumstances with your character. The game operates on a 3-point system, where the points are given based on your performance, as follows: Blunder Event: -1 Change Job: -1 Demotion: -2 Marry into Money: +2 Buy a Family: -1 Have Success in Career: +1 Embezzlement: -1 Protest: +1 Criminal Investigation (when married): -1 If you end up with zero points, you are fired! At the end of the path, you will find a Full Stop space in front of the church. The next stage of adulthood will commence, where you will now see Stock spaces (the spaces with turnips on them). You can buy stock at that point, but it is a risk as you would expect. Up ahead, you will get to another path split. The bottom path is riskier, since the events that can occur on the normal spaces can either earn you a lot of money, or cause problems (such as your child being kidnapped!). If you are on the upper path, less events can affect you, but if you land on a Job Hunt space, you are forced to give up your current job! If you take the lower path though and land on that space, you will have to exchange your job with another player (this can be good or bad). Other Information ----------------- On the normal space immediately after your first Money space, if you land there, you will reach the hidden Dragon's Palace. This is a side map where all of the spaces can lead to positive results for you! If you are not yet married, these will be positive results, but if you are married, it can change the events to come. At the end of this short track, you can pick from three present boxes. One causes you to get older, another will give you a whopping 20,000,000 Yen, and the last does nothing. Good luck! After the paths combine again, there is another hidden space where you can go into outer space! Like the Dragon's Palace, this is another side area, but the spaces have different effects. You can get forced into a marriage here! The only troublesome point of adulthood is the possibility of going to jail if something bad happens. This will send you to a side area for the jail, and you will lose your job as a result. This means that when you get out of this course, you need to build yourself back up again. This can be disastrous, so hopefully it does not happen to you! ============== Late Adulthood ============== On this section of the course, you will find another path split. If you had a successful career, you can take the upper path, otherwise you are forced onto the longer bottom path. The upper path is your "fast track" to retirement, in a sense. There is another shop hidden in the spaces, where you can buy some expensive items like a luxury apartment. As you can expect for this point in life, this is the part where you will likely be making the most money of your career. At the end, when you reach the Full Stop space, you will receive a pension/severance pay since you will now be retiring up ahead. The pension is 8x your current salary, so enjoy it! ========== Retirement ========== At last, you are at the final stages of your life. The new gold coin spaces are Casino spaces. Land there and you will enter the casino, where you can play a slot machine or bet on horse races in an attempt to win more money. Fortunately, if you pass the Money spaces, you will receive a very nice sum of money as part of your pension! Before you reach the goal, there is one more Short Stop space. This is your last chance to mess around with your other players by challenging one of them to a mini-game battle. The winner gets 10,000,000 Yen and the loser will lose that amount. There really is not a whole lot more you can do in this stage. Simply enjoy the remaining part of the game, and try to bolster your money supply before you reach the Goal. As always, the person with the most money at the end of their lives wins! At the end, the results will be displayed and the game will end. The winner is the person who reached the Goal space with the most money. At the goal, you will receive bonuses based on circumstances, as follows: First Place: 100,000,000 Yen Second Place: 50,000,000 Yen Third Place: 25,000,000 Yen Have Children: 3,000,000 Yen for each child Have Stocks: 2,000,000 Yen for each sheet Have Diamond: 30,000,000 Yen Have Luxury Apartment: 50,000,000 Yen ================= Game Board Spaces ================= Blunder Spaces -------------- On this space, you will see a blue star in the middle area. Land here and a mistake at your job will occur. This will also cause you to be demoted a rank. If you are already at the lowest rank, you will get fired! Casino Spaces ------------- This space has, as you would expect, a gold coin on it. Land here and you will be able to either play a slot machine or bet on horse racing. The horse racing is WAY more profitable, especially if you win! Exercise Spaces --------------- This space has a picture of a dumbell on it. Land here and your Physical Strength stat may increase. Full Stop Spaces ---------------- This looks like the Short Stop space, but it has a red background. You must stop at this location to play out an event, and your turn ends even if you have more spaces to move. Job Hunt Spaces --------------- This space is white with a white star in the middle. If you are NOT on the university track, these spaces will prompt you to pick from three random jobs that you qualify for based on your current statistics and past achievements. If you are in university, no jobs are given, rather you gain/lose stats. Love Spaces ----------- On these heart spaces, you will be able to go on a date with the opposite gender. If this is your first time, you will be able to pick from two people to date. In subsequent dates, you can pick the location of the date, and the results will vary depending on the person dating and where you go. If you get 5 hearts total, you get married, but can continue to go on dates with these spaces later in the game. Luck Spaces ----------- These spaces have a yellow crescent shape on them. When you land on this space, you will get a random event which will affect your Luck stat. Money Spaces ------------ Introduced after high school, this space with a money bag on it is where you get your allowance/salary. You don't have to land right on the space to get paid, either. If you don't have a job, of course, you get nothing from it. Normal Spaces ------------- When you land on this regular white space, a random event will occur, usually resulting in a boost to one of your statistics, or a decrease. You can also gain or lose money with this space. Promotion Spaces ---------------- This is the white space with a red star in the middle. If you have a job and you land here, you will receive a promotion (usually leads to a stat boost) in your current field. Short Stop Spaces ----------------- This space has a yellow circle with a white bar across the middle. When you encounter this space, you stop there temporarily as you pass to complete an event. Your turn continues if you have more spaces to move beyond it. Stock Spaces ------------ This space has a turnip icon on it. Land here and you will have the option of buying one of three types of stock. Land on the space again and you will see the outcome of your stock-buying activities; you can either win a lot or lose a lot of money doing this, so invest wisely! Study Spaces ------------ On this space, you will see a green pencil icon. If you land here, you will see a boost in your Intelligence. ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 5. Jobs -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-= In this game, there are 12 possible jobs you can have. You initially get a job by selecting from the three random choices at a Job Hunt space. You can get promotions over the course of the game, or demotions (they are both done solely by luck). There are four ranks to each job, each with increasing pay rates. Upon retirement, your severance pay will be 8x your final salary, and your pension payments after that point will be 4x your final salary. When you land on Promotion/Blunder spaces, certain random events may occur in relation to your current position.
