HISTORY]* *********************************************************************** Version 1.1 Finish Update: May 20 at 9:26pm, Pacific Time. This guide is already up on Gamefaqs and Gamespot. I am sure you have all seen many mistakes up in this FAQ. Sorry, it was done rapidly and I was bored at the end of writing this FAQ. Now that I have relaxed, I corrected a lot of faults for a more pleasant lecture. There is still some errors but the biggest ones are corrected thank god!! I have holidays this week so I'll be working on the next update, it should be up next week. Thank you everyone!!!! Version 2.1 Finish Update: June 7 at 6:24pm, Pacific Time. Well I started my second part of the FAQ. I was very busy, sorry. I had exams to prepare which are more important than this FAQ. Anyway, I manage to finish my second update. I finished up to the defense stats. I don't know if I will have time to update it until the end of June, if I can manage to do it, I will. Anyway, I hope you like this guide. *** If you could rate my guide I would be very thankful Thank you! *** Version 2.2 Finish Update: June 17 at 6:41pm, Pacific Time. I've read little parts of my guide and noticed that some sentences did not make sense. I decided to sacrifice the rest of the second part to correct and replace sentences. I don't know if I will have the time to add the version 2.3 for the rest of the second part. Version 2.3 Finish Update: June 21 at 1:18pm, Pacific Time. You should all thank Theemikester for this quick update. He gave me the motivation I needed to continue and update this guide before September. All my projects have been pushed one week farther. This is maybe the second biggest reason why I've updated this so soon. Anyway, I've put in every attack move in the game. Also, I finished the second part of the FAQ. I'll try and work on the third and final part before I go on vacation. *** Hello everybody and have a nice summer. *** *TAKE NOTE* From now on, you have to enter everything in the brackets by pushing ctrl + f to be directed in the right place. That means, the brackets and the letters. I've also made a battle chart, it will ease you greatly to find a quick shortcut on pokemon type advantage. Version 3.1 Finish Update: September 4 at 16:47pm, Pacific Time. Well I pretty much finished the FAQ. The Third part is completed and also the Top Twenty. You'll maybe notice that things were changed. First, the moves were brought at the end of the FAQ due to some complaints and typos were corrected here and there. ***So farewell everybody and have fun!*** *********************************************************************** *Introduction - [INTRODUCTION]* *********************************************************************** First, I created this guide to help people. Brief Description: Normal is the most common type in the game. Although it is common, doesn't mean there are a lot of great pokemon. Surprisingly this type is home to a very few great ones. If you are going to raise one, I strongly suggest to buy TMs. There isn't any powerful normal attack, except Horn Drill, Hyper Beam and maybe Mean Look. Mean Look is great for capturing pokemon. Hyper Beam is maybe the strongest normal attack move, but you lose a turn. Horn Drill if hits, causes an instant KO. Still then, it has a 30% success rate, which is very low and makes it an unreliable move in bigger battles. Not really the best type but you could at least make room for a decent Tauros or Porygon 2. Teach them some good TMs or else they won't be worthy of the time you'll invest in them. 2. Type Advantage - Disadvantage Normal Normal....Nothing Fire......Nothing Water.....Nothing Electric..Nothing Grass.....Nothing Ice.......Nothing Fighting..Nothing Poison....Nothing Ground....Nothing Flying....Nothing Psychic...Nothing Bug.......Nothing Rock......Weak Ghost.....Can't Hit Dragon....Nothing Dark......Nothing Steel.....Weak Best of Type: 1) Porygon 2 - Has good stats, can also learn the best special attack in the game, Zap Cannon. 2) Snorlax - Snorlax has decent stats and learns rest and snore which makes a nice combo. At higher levels, he will learn Hyper beam. If you teach him good TM for his last move he can be a very powerful pokemon. 3) Tauros - Tauros stats are not bad, but not the best ones. He will learn Rest at level 34 and can also be taught Snore with TMs. In my opinion, don't train him unless he's your favorite pokemon. 4) Ursaring - Pretty much the same as Tauros, don't train him. Well this is pretty much the normal type. A lot of pokemon, and for the most, very bad stats. Like in every type, some are better than others and you will have to stick with them. If you are going to raise other normal pokemon then I suggest to teach them TMs and boost their stats with calcium, zinc, protein, etc. 4. Pokemon of that Type: Pidgey Pidgeotto Pidgeot Spearow Fearow Hoothoot Noctowl Rattata Raticate Sentret Furret Cleffa Clefairy Clefable Igglybuff Jigglypuff Wigglytuff Togepi Togetic Dunsparce Ditto Aipom Snubull Granbull Stantler Meowth Persian Girafrig Tauros Miltank Smeargle Farfetch'd Lickitung Eevee Tediursa Ursaring Doduo Dodrio Kangaskhan Porygon Porygon2 Chansey Blissey Snorlax So here are the normal type pokemon, as you can see there is a hole bunch of them. So, have fun catching and trading all these pokemons. *********************************************************************** *Fire - [FIRE]* *********************************************************************** 1. Brief Description: Now it's the turn of my favorite type, the fire pokemons. This type has some fine pokemons but at the opposite of the normal type, they aren't as common. I strongly suggest to leave Cyndaquil in its pokeball because he isn't the best choice when it comes to the starters. I suggest you Chikorita even if you'll get problems starting with it. Your first gym is flyers but if you've trained it well then it shouldn't be to much of a problem. Let us get back to fire pokemons. With Fire blast and Sacred Fire, these pokemons are a must on your party. Also fire pokemon that have Sunny Day and a strong Fire attack can easily beat the crap out of a water pokemon in two or three rounds. 2. Type Advantage - Disadvantage Fire Normal....Nothing Fire......Weak Water.....Weak Electric..Nothing Grass.....Strong Ice.......Strong Fighting..Nothing Poison....Nothing Ground....Nothing Flying....Nothing Psychic...Nothing Bug.......Strong Rock......Weak Ghost.....Nothing Dragon....Weak Dark......Nothing Steel.....Strong 3. Best of Type: 1) Entei - A very powerful pokemon that gain good stats as well as good attacks. Only at high levels though. He'll learn Fire Blast at level 71 (which is pretty high). You can always teach him Fire Blast with TMs if you can't wait until you get a good fire attack. 2) Arcanine - The best Pokemon of Red/Blue/Yellow. The only little thing that cost him the first place is that he doesn't learn Fire Blast, Although you can teach him Fire Blast with TMs, Entei has better stats then Arcanine. Entei is much harder to catch than a Growlithe though, which isn't in the favor of Entei. Arcanines stats compared to Enteis are almost identical but the legendary pokemon gets 1st place. 3) Ho-oh - Maybe People will say that Ho-oh is the best fire pokemon but for me, his flying type cost him the first place. He has extremely high stats, I know but if he encounters a Raikou or a Zapdos, he'll be knock out quickly. This is an "if" but this if makes all the difference. He also comes with Sacred Ash which heals HP and Status condition of every pokemon in your party. 4) Moltres - Like Ho-oh, Moltres has a second type flying that cost him the second place. He has very good stats, but like Arcanine he doesn't learn Fire Blast so you'll have to teach him the move with TMs. This part is based on the type and not on the stats. If this were based on stats, Ho-oh and Moltres would come first and second respectively. I think you should train a good Ho-oh or Moltres if you don't have a very good flying pokemon and that you haven't trained an Arcanine or Entei. 4. Pokemon Of This Type: Cyndaquil Quilava Typhlosion Vulpix Ninetales Growlithe Arcanine Magby Magmar Flareon Ponyta Rapidash Houndour Houndoom Slugma Magcargo Charmander Charmeleon Charizard Moltres Entei Ho-oh *********************************************************************** *Water - [WATER]* *********************************************************************** 1. Brief Description: There are tons of water pokemons but very few can put a good match on the good old Blastoise. These pokemons are quite common but you'll have to fish most of them. Some may roam in the fields but they are quite rare. Water is a very powerful type but they are weak against those nasty electric pokemons. They have a wide range of Powerful techniques, if we think of Hydro Pump, Octazooka, which has a 50% chance of reducing accuracy. Although there is a lot of great pokemon related to this type, some pokemons are just bad. It will be up to you to make the right decisions. Also If I can recommend a good starter it wouldn't be Totodile because water pokemons are much more common then Fire or pure Grass pokemon like Chikorita. 2. Type Advantage - Disadvantage Water Normal....Nothing Fire......Strong Water.....Weak Electric..Nothing Grass.....Weak Ice.......Nothing Fighting..Nothing Poison....Nothing Ground....Strong Flying....Nothing Psychic...Nothing Bug.......Nothing Rock......Strong Ghost.....Nothing Dragon....Weak Dark......Nothing Steel.....Nothing 3. Best of Type: 1) Suicune - Suicune is the best of the water type but only at high levels. He'll only learn Hydro Pump at level 71 which is pretty high for a good attack. 2) Blastoise - Blastoise is the second best water pokemon, he has some great attacks that he will learn at lower levels than Suicune. He will learn at level 55 Skull Bash and 68 Hydro Pump. The reason why Blastoise is second is because most of Suicunes stats are a tiny bit better than Blastoise, which will result in his defeat in almost every battles against Suicune. 3) Feraligatr - Feraligatr in my opinion is better than Blastoise. Feraligtr stats are better in Attack and Defense than it is in Special Attack and Special Defense. For a water pokemon it isn't the best thing. It is a Water pokemon and his stats should be upside down. He should have better special attack and defense because water type moves are categorized in special attacks. Pokemon of That Type: Totodile Croconaw Feraligatr Wooper Quagsire Poliwag Poliwhirl Poliwrath Politoed Magikarp Gyarados Goldeen Seaking Slowpoke Slowbro Slowking Marill Azumarill Psyduck Golduck Quilfish Tentacool Tentacruel Krabby Kingler Staryu Starmie Shellder Cloyster Corsola Remoraid Octillery Chinchou Lanturn Seel Dewgong Vaporeon horsea Seadra Kingdra Mantine Lapras Omanye Omastar Kabuto Kabutops Squirtle Wartortle Blastoise Suicune *********************************************************************** *Electric - [ELECTRIC]* *********************************************************************** 1. Brief Description: Well as you already know this is the electric family. Home to great pokemon and as you can figure out, it is a rare family compared to normal or water. They have great speed in general. If we think of Electrode who maxes out a 300 pts at level 100, wow! I think you already know that speed is an important key to win a fight. If your pokemon is quick he inflicts a good move that could knock out almost everybody in a single strike. If you want speedy pokemons than go with this type. They also have the best attack in the game which is Zap Cannon (if hit, it paralyzes your opponent). 2. Type Advantage - Disadvantage Electric Normal....Nothing Fire......Nothing Water.....Strong Electric..Weak Grass.....Weak Ice.......Nothing Fighting..Nothing Poison....Nothing Ground....Can't Hit Flying....Strong Psychic...Nothing Bug.......Nothing Rock......Nothing Ghost.....Nothing Dragon....Weak Dark......Nothing Steel.....Nothing Best of Type: 1) Raikou - The best pokemon of the electric class. It has incredibly good stats and high special attack and defense. His skills are limited but learns Spark and Thunder, which are great attacks. As the legendary dogs, these pokemons are great but only at high levels. They learn their best attacks at level 71. 2) Jolteon - If we think of Jolteon in Red/Blue/Yellow, this would definitely be the best pokemon. They have lowered his stats in Gold/Silver/Crystal, a mysterious reason that I haven't yet understood. He is still a good pokemon and is also very fast. He is even faster than Raikou. I think that Jolteon is still the best electric pokemon because he can take out a psychic pokemon with its bug attack "pin missile". One little thing though, it would lose against a well trained Raikou that is why it can only be in second. 3) Zapdos - Another legendary pokemon. Zapdos is great and is better than the two above. again, its second type flying placed it in third place. Also he learns Thunder at level 73 which is even higher than Raikou. Pokemon of That Type: Pichu Pikachu Raichu Mareep Flaffy Ampharos Magnemite Magneton Voltorb Electrode Electabuzz Chinchou Lanturn Jolteon Zapdos Raikou *********************************************************************** *Grass - [GRASS]* *********************************************************************** Brief Description: Grass type is in my opinion the second best type after "psychic". In the older versions it wasn't as good as it is today. Very few of them were pure Grass and even then they weren't very good. The good grass pokemon were usually mixed with poison (Venausaur). This was bad, very bad, because they are weak against the best type "Psychics". Thankfully, this version gave hope to this type by offering plenty of new great techniques and pokemons. Like Synthesis who replenishes your Hit Points. Giga Drain, like the word says drains the energy of your opponent, by doing that it heals half the damage you have inflicted to your opponent. 2. Type advantage - Disadvantage Grass Normal....Nothing Fire......Strong Water.....Weak Electric..Nothing Grass.....Weak Ice.......Nothing Fighting..Nothing Poison....Nothing Ground....Strong Flying....Nothing Psychic...Nothing Bug.......Nothing Rock......Strong Ghost.....Nothing Dragon....Weak Dark......Nothing Steel.....Nothing Best of Type: 1) Meganium - A very solid pokemon who can deal great damage. It also has great defense that makes it a tremendously tough pokemon to beat. It has great moves like Synthesis and Body Slam. This should also be your choice as a starter (Chikorita). 2) Bellosom - A little bit weaker than Meganium but still a great pokemon. You have to evolve it from Gloom with a Sun Stone. They are very common in Gold/Silver/Crystal. It has great moves like Petal Dance and it can learn Solar Beam at level 55. 3) Venausaur - Most people will say this is the greatest grass pokemon but have you forgotten that it is weak to "Psychic". It is half type Poison. I also think it is a great pokemon who learns great move but because of its weakness it can only be placed in third. Pokemon of That Type: Chikorita Bayleef Meganium Bellsprout Weepinbell Victrebeel Hoppip Skiploom Jumpluff Paras Parasect Oddish Gloom Vileplume Bellosom Sunkern Sunflora Exeggcute Exeggutor Tangela Bulbasaur Ivysaur Venusaur *********************************************************************** *Ice - [ICE]* *********************************************************************** 1. Brief Description: Not a very common family but surely one the best. Ice is a very powerful family and is one of the rarest type compared to the families. A very good type with some big potential. This type doesn't have a lot of techniques but one thing is sure, the techniques they have are badass. Aurora Beam, a good low level attack that does a lot of damage, it also has a 10% success of lowering attack. Blizzard is another good example, its very strong and has a 10% chance of freezing your opponent. 2. Type Advantage - Disadvantage Ice Normal....Nothing Fire......Weak Water.....Weak Electric..Nothing Grass.....Strong Ice.......Ice Fighting..Nothing Poison....Nothing Ground....Strong Flying....Strong Psychic...Nothing Bug.......Nothing Rock......Nothing Ghost.....Nothing Dragon....Strong Dark......Nothing Steel.....Weak 3. Best of Type : 1) Lapras - Trusty Lapras is now the best Ice pokemon. Lapras starts with a good technique Sing. Also, it will learn Confuse Ray, Perish Song, Ice Beam and Hydro Pump. It can also learn a bunch a good TMs. Definitely the winner here. 2) Articuno - A tie with Cloyster. The legendary bird of Red/Blue/Yellow is in best of type. It can learn good attacks like Blizzard, only at level 73 though and Ice Beam at level 49. As always these legendary birds have second type flying that cuts their efficacy by half because of their weakness to electric. 3) Cloyster - A decent pokemon, I suggest you stick wth Lapras or Articuno. Pokemon of That Type: Smoochum Jynx Cloyster Dewgong Delibird Swinub Piloswine Sneasel Lapras Articuno *********************************************************************** *Fighting - [FIGHTING]* *********************************************************************** 1. Brief Description: The fighting type. Not one of my favorite type due to their weakness against common types like Poison, Flying, Psychic and Bug and they can't even hit Ghosts. Even though they have great attacks. for me it just a waste of time raising one of these pokemon. They're only strong against Ice, Steel and Dark type which are very uncommon types. Their real advantage is against Normal and Rock. So if you want to raise one then it will be against these two types that you'll want your fighting pokemon to battle against. They have decent attacks if we take the example of Counter which deals 2x the damage of a non-special attack. Cross Chop which is likely to become a critical hit and Dynamic Punch, if it hits confuses its opponent. 2. Type Advantage - Disadvantage Fighting Normal....Strong Fire......Nothing Water.....Nothing Electric..Nothing Grass.....Nothing Ice.......Strong Fighting..Nothing Poison....Weak Ground....Nothing Flying....Weak Psychic...Weak Bug.......Weak Rock......Strong Ghost.....Can't Hit Dragon....Nothing Dark......Strong Steel.....Strong To much variation for this type which makes them unreliable pokemons. 3. Best of Type 1) Hitmonlee - Hitmonlee is the best fighting pokemon. Like in Red/Blue/Yellow, its good special defense and good attack make Hitmonlee the best fighter in the game. He will learn his greatest attack at level 46 Mega kick that has a power of 120. He will learn reversal at level 51. You could also teach one of the greatest combo, Rest and Snore. 2) Hitmontop - Hitmontop is the second best Fighting pokemon. He'll learn triple kick at level 49 and can also learn the Rest and Snore combo with TMs. 3) Machamp - Machamp has better stats in general than Hitmonlee and Hitmontop. But, Machamps low speed isn't at it's advantage. Speed is a crucial element in the game. He'll lose in a one on one match against the above two just because of its low speed. It's the main reason why it was placed in third. Although, it learns very good attacks like Cross Chop at level 43, which is pretty low for a good attack. 4. Pokemon of That Type: Poliwrath Heracross Mankey Primeape Machop Machoke Machamp Tyrogue Hitmonlee Hitmonchan Hitmontop *********************************************************************** *Poison - [POISON]* *********************************************************************** 1. Brief Description - One of the worst type of the game and maybe the worst of every type. Poison pokemon in Red/Blue/Yellow just suck the way through. Anyhow, in Gold and Silver TMs brought this type up a bit. They hade to innovate in techniques and they have done exactly what we were waiting for. They brought up good TMs and techniques. What I find disappointing is that no pokemon of note for that type was created in Gold/Silver/Crystal. 2. Type advantage - Disadvantage Poison Normal....Nothing Fire......Nothing Water.....Nothing Electric..Nothing Grass.....Strong Ice.......Nothing Fighting..Nothing Poison....Weak Ground....Weak Flying....Nothing Psychic...Nothing Bug.......Nothing Rock......Weak Ghost.....Weak Dragon....Nothing Dark......Nothing Steel.....Can't Hit 3. Best Of Type: 1) Gengar - The half Poison Gengar. Gengar doesn't learn any poison techniques but you can teach him Toxic, which is a very good poison move. 2) Weezing - Weezing is a great pokemon. He'll learn Explosion at level 44 and Destiny Bond at 51. If you teach him Sludge Bomb and Toxic he could be an decent pokemon. 3) Muk - Muks stats are good and can be compared to Weezing. Weezing, on the other hand, has much more balanced stats compared to Muk, which plays in the favor of good old Weezing. He'll learn Sludge Bomb at level 60. 4. Pokemon of That Type: Weedle Kakuna Beedrill Spinarak Araiados Zubat Golbat Crobat Ekans Arbok Gastly Haunter Gangar Bellsprout Weepinbell Victreebel Oddish Gloom Vileplume Nidoran (F) Nidorina Nidoqueen Nidoran (M) Nidorino Nidoking Venonat Venomoth Koffing Weezing Grimer Muk Quilfish Tentacool Tentacruel Bulbasaur Ivysaur Venausaur *********************************************************************** *Ground - [GROUND]* *********************************************************************** 1. Brief Description: Ground types are good but for a limited number of pokemons. Its weak to very few types if we compare them to the fighting type. They have some decent moves like Fissure. The opponent will faint if it gets hit. Also Earthquake, a very incredible and powerful attack. Ground type is good and you should have atleast ono on your party. If 2. Type advantage - Disadvantage Ground Normal....Nothing Fire......Strong Water.....Nothing Electric..Strong Grass.....Weak Ice.......Nothing Fighting..Nothing Poison....Strong Ground....Nothing Flying....Can't Hit Psychic...Nothing Bug.......Weak Rock......Strong Ghost.....Nothing Dragon....Nothing Dark......Nothing Steel.....Strong 3. Best of Type: 1) Donphan - This pokemon is exclusive to the Silver version. This means, if you have the gold version than you can't capture it in the fields you'll have to trade him via a link cable. Donphan is the best ground type in the game. It's excellent attack makes a big difference compared to the others. Donphan learns almost every best attacks that the type has to offer. If you really want a tough ground pokemon than go for the mighty Donphan. 2) Dugtrio - This pokemon was the best ground type pokemon of Red/Blue/Yellow. Now he is a good second. Dugtrio has more speed than Donphan and this could play a big role in a battle against Donphan. 4. Pokemon of That Type: Geodude Graveler Golem Sandshrew Sandslash Wooper Quagsire Onix Steelix Nidoqueen Nidoking Diglett Dugtrio Gligar Swinub Piloswine Phanpy Donphan Cubone Marowak Ryhorn Rhydon Larvitar Pupitar *********************************************************************** *Flying - [FLYING]* *********************************************************************** 1. Brief Description: The flyers, a hole bunch of them so don't get stressed out if you haven't caught one yet. For me flyers aren't a good type. They need to be mixed with a very powerful type like psychic to stand a chance into battles. Don't level a flyer with mediocre second type like normal, bug or any other of the weakest types. They have to be mixed with the stronger families. Flying type pokemons are basically used for the HM Fly. Very few flying techniques are good. There is Aeroblast, that is likely to become a critical hit and Sky Attack, which is a second turn attack but very powerful. These attacks don't come on every flying pokemon, just on the hard and uncommon pokemons to catch. 2. Type Advantage - Disadvantage Flying Normal....Nothing Fire......Nothing Water.....Nothing Electric..Weak Grass.....Strong Ice.......Nothing Fighting..Strong Poison....Nothing Ground....Nothing Flying....Nothing Psychic...Nothing Bug.......Strong Rock......Weak Ghost.....Nothing Dragon....Nothing Dark......Nothing Steel.....Weak 3. Best Of Type: 1) Lugia - One thing is sure, Lugia is badass in this game. Lugia has the best flying attack, Aeroblast. In this game, he has the best stats of all pokemons. So its hard to argue the fact that he is the best Flying pokemon. 2) Legendary Flying Pokemons: Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Ho-oh all these are in the top twenty of the stats cumulative so I think they deserve the right to be put in the top flyers. Only Moltres learns Sky attack, which is the second best flying technique. 3) Skarmory - Silvers exclusive pokemon, the mighty Skarmory. This half steel pokemon is hard to beat with its good defense and a lot of immunities. This half steel pokemon can take some damage before it faints. 4. Pokemon of That Type: Pidgey Pidgeotto Pidgeot Spearow Fearow Hoothoot Noctowl Butterfree Ledyba Ledian Zubat Golbat Crobat Togetic Hoppip Skiploom Jumpluff Gyarados Yanma Scyther Farfetch'd Natu Xatu Gligar Delibird Mantine Skarmory Doduo Dodrio Murkrow Aerodactyl Charizard Articuno Zapdos Moltres Dragonite Lugia Ho-oh *********************************************************************** *Psychic - [PSYCHIC]* *********************************************************************** 1. Brief Description: The best type of pokemon games. Most of the legendary pokemons belong to this type with all there good stats and attacks. The two best pokemons belong to this family. Lugia and Mewtwo are the two top pokemons in the top twenty cumulative. there isn't much to argue about this type. Leave at least a space for this type of pokemon or you'll be missing an important element in your team. There are extremely good techniques for this type. Dream Eater, Future Sight, Hypnosis, Mirror Coat and Psychic. As always some are not as good as others so it will come to you to make the right decisions. 2. Type Advantage - Disadvantage Psychic Normal....Nothing Fire......Nothing Water.....Nothing Electric..Nothing Grass.....Nothing Ice.......Nothing Fighting..Strong Poison....Strong Ground....Nothing Flying....Nothing Psychic...Weak Bug.......Nothing Rock......Nothing Ghost.....Nothing Dragon....Nothing Dark......Can't Hit Steel.....Weak 3. Best of Type: 1) Mewtwo - Lugia is better than Mewtwo with a somewhat big advantage but Mewtwo is focused on a single type, which is at his advantage. Mewtwo is a very reliable pokemon but you can't get him unless you've traded or gotten it via gameshark. Anyway, a very solid pokemon who learns great attacks at each 11 levels. He'll learn Future Sight at level 44, Psychic at level 66, Recover at level 88. He can also learn a hole bunch of TMs. 2) Lugia - Like I said Lugia has a weakness that Mewtwo doesn't have. Lugia has the weakness of being weak to Electric. Even though Lugia stats are a bit higher and that he would probably beat up Mewtwo his weakness makes all the difference. Lugia learns attacks at each 11 levels (like Mewtwo). He'll learn Future Sight at level 99 which is pretty high but he can learn a hole bunch of TMs to replace this attack. 3) Mew - The little pokemon from Red/Blue/Yellow. He'll learn Psychic at level 40 which is pretty low for a good move. He can also learn every HM and TM, which makes him a versatile pokemon to have. 4) Espeon - The new evolution of Eevee made its way out with its high special attack, 280 points. He'll evolve from Eevee based on tameness. If he evolves during the day he will turn into a beautiful but dangerous Espeon. Espeon has very good stats which makes him a very tough pokemon. Mew and Mewtwo can't be caught in Gold/Silver/Crystal and Lugia has this weakness against Electric pokemon. So if you cannot trade or gameshark your Mew or Mewtwo then stick with the newly design Eevee evolution Espeon. Lugia is not a good idea especially if you have the gold version because he won't learn its best Flying technique, Aeroblast. 4. Pokemon of That Type: Unknown Slowpoke Slowbro Slowking Drowsee Hypno Abra Kadabra Alakazam Exeggcute Exeggutor Woobuffet Girafrig Smoochum Jynx Mr. Mime Natu Xatu Starmie Espeon Lugia Mewtwo Mew Celebi *********************************************************************** *Bug - [BUG]* *********************************************************************** 1. Brief Description: You'll definitely want one because otherwise you'll have trouble beating up those nasty psychic pokemons. Bug class is a very Common type. The best place to catch most of them is in the Bug contest. Some good moves are from that type if we take the example of Megahorn, it has an attack power of 120. Also their is Spider Web, an attack especially design to catch some tough pokemons easiily. I really think it is a good type and that you should have at least one in your party. Watch out though because many of the good bug pokemons have a weak second type so chose carefully the one you want. 2. Type Advantage - Disadvantage Bug Normal....Nothing Fire......Weak Water.....Nothing Electric..Nothing Grass.....Strong Ice.......Nothing Fighting..Weak Poison....Weak Ground....Nothing Flying....Weak Psychic...Strong Bug.......Nothing Rock......Nothing Ghost.....Weak Dragon....Nothing Dark......Strong Steel.....Weak 3. Best of Type: 1) Scizor - The best bug pokemon of the game even though it lost its speed from Scyther. It makes up for it though with good defense and a variety of decent moves. Also don't forget to teach him fury Cutter to catch tough pokemon easiky. It also made the top five for the attack stats. 2) Heracross - Heracross is very tempting because he is the sole pokemon who can learn Megahorn. Anyhow, his half fighting type negates his strength against psychic pokemons. So Half-Steel Scizor wins this one. 3) Pinsir - Yes, the well-known Pinsir has made it. Even though Pinsir is a Pure bug, he won't learn any bug techniques. Although, you can teach him TM 49 Fury Cutter and he should a decent pokemon. 4. Pokemon of That Type: Caterpie Metapod Butterfree Weedle Kakuna Beedrill Ledyba Ledian Spinarak Ariados Paras Parasect Pineco Forretress Yanma Venonat Venomoth Scyther Scizor Pinsir Heracross Shuckle *********************************************************************** *Rock - [ROCK]* *********************************************************************** 1. Brief Description: Rock wasn't a very good type in the previous versions but some Gold, Silver and Crystal pokemons have changed the rock type. Many pokemons belong to this family but very few of them are as well balanced as the mighty Tyranitar. Although, there is a lot of pokemons, there isn't a lot good moves that belong to this type. Other than that, there isn't much to say about the type except the fact that you should keep them out of sight of water pokemons. 2. Type Advantage - Disadvantage Rock Normal....Nothing Fire......Strong Water.....Nothing Electric..Nothing Grass.....Nothing Ice.......Strong Fighting..Weak Poison....Nothing Ground....Weak Flying....Strong Psychic...Nothing Bug.......Strong Rock......Nothing Ghost.....Nothing Dragon....Nothing Dark......Nothing Steel.....Weak 3. Best of Type: 1) Tyranitar - The Tyranitar Family is pretty much like the Red, Blue and Yellow Dragonite family. Tyranitar is very powerful but you'll have to be patient because he only evolves at level 55. He'll learn decent attacks like Rock Slide at level 22. Earthquake at level 61 and Hyper Beam at 75. 2) Aerodactyl - This is Rock/Flying pokemon. This type combo is great because the rock type gives it a chance against electric pokemons. Aerodactyl will learn Ancient Power at level 29 and Hyper Beam at level 50. You could teach it the HM Fly if you haven't picked any flying Pokemon already. 3) Golem - That was a tough call between Golem and Rhydon but Golems speed made all the difference. He'll learn rollout at level 34 and Earthquake at level 41. If your one of those kamikaze maniac, than you'll like this move, "Explosion", he will learn it at level 48. 4. Pokemon of That Type: Geodude Graveler Golem Onix Rhyhorn Rhydon Magcargo Omanyte Omastar Kabuto Kabutops Aerodactyl Larvitar Pupitar Tyranitar *********************************************************************** *Ghost - [GHOST]* *********************************************************************** 1. Brief Description: Ghosts are pretty tough to beat. Anyway you don't have much on which to pick because they aren't many pokemons belonging to that type. Some attacks are very strong and some make nice twist like the awesome Normal combo of Rest and Snore. There are also powerful Ghost attacks, like Destiny Bond, if the user faints than its opponent will too. Shadow Ball is also very good too, it has a 20% success of decreasing Special Defense of your opponents. The Hypnosis and Dream Eater is pretty much like the Rest and Snore combo. In my opinion it's better than the normal type combo because you're not asleep during the process. Your opponent is the main victim instead of you because you aren't asleep. 2. Type Advantage - Disadvantage Ghost Normal....Can't Hit Fire......Nothing Water.....Nothing Electric..Nothing Grass.....Nothing Ice.......Nothing Fighting..Nothing Poison....Nothing Ground....Nothing Flying....Nothing Psychic...Nothing Bug.......Strong Rock......Nothing Ghost.....Strong Dragon....Nothing Dark......Weak Steel.....Weak 4. Best of Type: 1) Gengar - He is a half poison type, which is very bad, he is still a worthy pokemon who starts with great attacks. He starts with Hypnosis that you'll want to keep for the future. Also, Dream Eater at level 39 that makes the greatest combo in the game. 2) Misdreavous - The first pure ghost in the history of pokemons. Even though her stats aren't very good, she learns plenty of cool and funny moves like Pain split and Perish Song. I don't think it is a great pokemon but ghost type are very rare, especially her. You'll only be able to catch her near the end of the game at MT. Silver during the night. 4. Pokemon of That Type: Gastly Haunter Gengar Misdreavous *********************************************************************** *Dragon - [DRAGON]* *********************************************************************** 1. Brief Description: Well this is one of my favorite type. Their big weakness is ice but if you've noticed, ice isn't a very common type. Strong moves belong to this type. Like outrage, which has a power of 90 and attacks 2 to 3 time in a row. only one exception, you become confuse when you finish your attacks. You should think of leaving a place in your party for these strong and trustworthy pokemons. 2. Type Advantage - Disadvantage Dragon Normal....Nothing Fire......Nothing Water.....Nothing Electric..Nothing Grass.....Nothing Ice.......Nothing Fighting..Nothing Poison....Nothing Ground....Nothing Flying....Nothing Psychic...Nothing Bug.......Nothing Rock......Nothing Ghost.....Nothing Dragon....Strong Dark......Nothing Steel.....Weak 3. Best of Type: 1) Dragonite - As always, this strong pokemon made its way up again. It is now even more powerful than it used to be in Red/Blue/Yellow. In the previous version, Dragonite has won this by default but not this time, the newly added Kingdra added some competition to the type. 2) Kingdra - Thanks to Kingdra, Dragonite know has competition even though Dragonite is better. Kingdra is a fine pokemon who has a half type water. It'll evolve from Seadra by trading it withc a Dragon Scale equipped. It'll learn its best attack at level 51, which is Hydro Pump. 4. Pokemon of That Type: Kingdra Dratini Dragonair Dragonite *********************************************************************** *Dark - [DARK]* *********************************************************************** 1. Brief Description: We've finally reached the newly Dark type. It was brought in the games Gold, Silver and Crystal. This newly added type has great potential with its new Pure Dark Eevee evolution and with many other half Dark Pokemons in the field waiting to be caught. This type is promising, with its good and tough pokemons. *Note* Crunch is now a Dark type move. Anyway, very few techniques belong to this type. Only thief, pursuit, Faint Attack, Crunch and Beat up are part of it. I'm sure you can enjoy this type even though it doesn't have much to offer in techniques. 2. Type Advantage - Disadvantage Dark Normal....Nothing Fire......Nothing Water.....Nothing Electric..Nothing Grass.....Nothing Ice.......Nothing Fighting..Weak Poison....Nothing Ground....Nothing Flying....Nothing Psychic...Strong Bug.......Nothing Rock......Nothing Ghost.....Strong Dragon....Nothing Dark......Weak Steel.....Weak 3. Earthquake at level 61 and Hyper Beam at 75. 2) Houndoom - Houndoom looks very cool and with his half type fire, he can deal a lot of damage. He is also vulnerable to popular types which would be a very bad thing for most Pokemons but not him. If you look carefully you will see that Houndoom has the best attacks of his two types. One thing is sure, he wasn't meant to stick with weaklings. 3) Umbreon - Many will ask why I've put Umbreon after Houndoom. Simple, the type isn't enough powerful to be by its own, they have to be mixed with other types to stand a chance. Maybe, in a near future will Dark type pokemons get better moves but for now he is in third place. 4. Pokemon of that Type: Umbreon Murkrow Houndour Houndoom Sneasel Tyranitar *********************************************************************** *Steel - [STEEL]* *********************************************************************** Brief Description: The newly added pokemon type comes with a bright future. The one's with the Silver version will experience the trustworthy Skarmory that I strongly recommend for a strong party. Anyway, Steel is a very good type but with very few pokemons. We will have to be patient a little bit and wait until the next generation comes out. The best steel type moves are Iron Tail, with its power of 100 and its 30% success of reducing defense and Steel wing. 2. Type Advantage - Disadvantage Steel Normal....Nothing Fire......Weak Water.....Weak Electric..Weak Grass.....Nothing Ice.......Strong Fighting..Nothing Poison....Nothing Ground....Nothing Flying....Nothing Psychic...Nothing Bug.......Nothing Rock......Strong Ghost.....Nothing Dragon....Nothing Dark......Nothing Steel.....Weak Best of Type: 1) Steelix - This is a powerhouse when it comes to defense. it has 420 stat points. one thing is sure, he'll have a thing or two to say before he faints. A very reliable pokemon with some good moves like Crunch, that he'll learn at level 49. Teach it some good TMs and this pokemon should be on your party. 2) Skarmory - The exclusive silver pokemon rocks with its good moves and lots immunities. He'll learn Steel Wing at level 49. Teach him good TMs and he will be fine. If you can't trade your Onix with a friend then stick with Skarmory. 3) Scizor - Another pokemon you'll have to trade with Metal Coat to get its evolution. Anyway, if you can't trade Scyther than stick with Skarmory. 1. You or your friend don't have a Link Cable. 2. You don't have a friend. LOL :) Anyway, if you don't have a cable connection, you will have to stick with Forretress. Scizor is good with lots of immunities and good attacks. 4. Pokemons of That Type: Forretress Scizor Magnemite Magneton Skarmory Steelix *********************************************************************** *Second Part - [SECOND PART]* *********************************************************************** Welcome to the second part of this guide. Like types, each pokemon can dominate in a category or in an other. So, I decided that it would be fair to put up the stats in a guide. Each will have a brief description about their characteristic. There are 6 different categories and here they are. Hit Points, Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense and Speed. *********************************************************************** *FONCTION - [FONCTION 2]* *********************************************************************** Introduction: Welcome in the second part of this FAQ. As you have already read, this covers the stats. Every pokemon has stats. Like every type, some pokemon are better than other, which is ok, but you don't really know which one at the beginning of the game. This part will help you on which pokemon to choose. Also think that not all legendary pokemons are better than common pokemons. Some are indeed but not all. Anyhow, I'll explain everything covering HP (Hit Points), Attack, Defense, Special Attacks, Special Defense and Speed. I'll also give the best pokemons regarding the stats cumulative which means the sum of the 6 different stats. Sure, maybe some people will disagree saying "My pokemon got better stats than the ones that are listed in your FAQ". Let me explain this as simple as it is. Maybe did your pokemon get better stats than the ones listed, and I believe you. But some different factors vary in the world of pokemon. Here are the main reasons. The gender of your little creature. Females tend to get better defense while male get better attack stat in general. Also pokemons that are caught at low levels get better stats, baby pokemons too. Sometimes, the same pokemon can get different stat even if they are at the same level and specie, this happens often. All these things vary from pokemon to pokemon. This is an approx. to give you a good idea of what your pokemon will look like. Also, don't forget to treat your pokemon well and let it hold an item to get their mood in the best conditions for better stat growth. 1 - Brief Description: A little description of the stats. 2 - Best of Stat: The best of that stat are listed from one to five. 3 - Worst of Stat: The worst pokemon of that stat. *The best pokemons that were taken in this Guide were all level 100* With all this you should understand pretty well the way this second part of my FAQ works. Sometimes, pokemons have the same stats as other pokemons at level 100. If we take the example of the attack category. there is a lot of ties. The ties will be clearly marked at the beginning of the pokemon name. *********************************************************************** *Hit Points - [HIT POINTS]* *********************************************************************** Brief Description: First of all you should know that hit points is the little bar green on top of the experience bar. Hit Points are important for many reasons. How many points your pokemon has before it faints is its primary use. Also the more Hit Points your pokemon has than better are his chances of staying alive on the long run. Though this category is important, it wouldn't be much without the aid of Special Defense and Defense. All these stats complete themselves to make your pokemon strong and resistant to your enemies attack. The category of hit points are mostly dominated by the normal type. -Best of Stats- 1. Blissey - Blissey has an amazing 630 Hit points at level 100. Although, he can't endure many attacks dueto its low defense. Blissey has good Sp. Attack and Sp. Defense to compensate his lack of Defense and Attack. 2. Chansey - Chansey is the first evolution of the mighty but fearful Blissey. It will evolve by Tameness. Chansey has an amazing 630 HP. Chansey and its evolve form Blissey have the same amount of Hit Points. This is maybe the only exception where I shall not put a tie because Chansey stats are much more weaker than those of Blissey. 3. Wobuffet - With its 510 Hit Points this strange pokemon can take some hits. If you ever want a Wobbufet, you will be surprised that it only learns counter attacks. If we take the example of Counter, Mirror Coat and Destiny Bond. All these attacks make your opponents damage after they have inflicted some to you. 4. Snorlax - The gigantic and big brute Snorlax. This Sleepy pokemon impressed me with its 450 Hit Points. He is also in the best normal type category to give you a little idea how strong he is. He'll learn decent attacks, definitely a pokemon you want in your party. 5. Wigglytuff - The third evolution of Igglybuff. It is also the second evolution of Jigglypuff. Anyhow, this cute pokemon isn't very good and I suggest you to think twice before leveling him. Anyway, if you want it so bad because it's cute than what can I say, go for it. He still can be a good pokemon but you'll have to boost his stats. -Worst of Stats- 1. Shuckle (Tie) - This funny pokemon is definitely strong although it has up and down stat. Anyway, it can actually be a good pokemon if you know how to manipulate it. You'll have to look carefully at his life bar because he doesn't have a ot of HP. 1. Abra (Tie) - This is the first stage of the mighty Alakazam. Although it doesn't have a lot of Hit Points, its third evolution does make some place for it. *********************************************************************** *Attack - [ATTACK]* *********************************************************************** Brief Description: This category is very important in tough battles. If you want your opponent pokemons to faint than you'll want to check this stat carefully. Anyway, some people have already asked me what type of moves are considered in the attack stat. Many people are confused with this. I'll explain it as simple as it is. So here are the moves that are categorized in the attack stats. Normal Fighting Poison Ground Rock Bug Flying Ghost Steel Every move that is from that type enters the attack stats, this includes every pokemon in the game. It doesn't matter whether your pokemon is from another type that is not listed above, like Fire, Water or Electric if they have an attack from these types it enters the attack stats. Hope you understand more the difference between Attack and Special attack. This is also the same for Sp. Defense and Defense. -Best of Stats- 1. Tyranitar (Tie) - This mighty pokemon can deal a lot of damage to its opponents. This newly added family that can be compared to the Dragonite family starts with force in pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal. This half Rock, half Dark is very powerful and it will surely have a word to say before it faints. You should think of having this mighty pokemon in your party if you don't know what to choose. 1. Ursaring (Tie) - This big bad bear can make damage with its 290 attack points. Although it is strong, it is part of the common family the normal type, which isn't at its advantage. 1. Rhydon (Tie) - Wow! another pokemon with 290 attack points. This rock type Rhydon has good moves that suits him perfectly. Like earthquake that Rhydon will learn at level 65. It is pretty high but definitely worth it. 4. Dragonite (Tie) - Yeah! This trustworthy pokemon is again in the top five with all these new pokemons. Dragonite is part of the fearful Dragon type class. It is definitely in good position to faint other pokemons with its powerful attack stat. If you are planning not to use Tyranitar than go with Dragonite, he is the second best choice for this category. Both Dragonite and Tyranitar made the top twenty cumulative. Dragonite has an impressive 280 points for the attack stats. 4. Flareon (Tie) - The Eevee evolution is in the top five for attacks, impressive. You will have to evolve your Eevee with a fire stone if you want this cute and lovely pokemon. Flareon is a good fire pokemon that learns decent attacks, not the best Eevee evolution but still a great pokemon. Flareon has a mighty 290 for the attack stats. 4. Scizor (Tie) - The half steel Scizor made its way up in the top five attack stats. This is the best bug pokemon even though it lost its speed from good old Scyther. Although it lost it speed, it makes up for it with good defense and a variety of decent moves. Scizor also has 280 points in attack stat. 4. Slowking (Tie) - Again, another pokemon that made its way up in the top five for the attack stat. Slowking has 280 points for the attack stat. Slowking is the third evolution of slowpoke. You will have to trade your Slowbro with Kings Rock if you want this pokemon. Their isn't any clear winner in this category even though Tyranitar was put in first place. The pokemons in this category have almost identical stats when it comes to attack. As you know, This is approx. ---Worst--- Chansey - Hope you don't intend to level one of these pokemon. This pokemon has the worse attack points in the game, it only has about 20. Its evolve form isn't even better so don't teach them attacks. Only special attacks if you want to inflict damage to opponents. Also keep them away from direct hits because it doesn't have much defense either. *********************************************************************** *Defense - [DEFENSE]* *********************************************************************** Brief Description: As many people know. Defense is a very useful stat that you should consider important. When you try to build up a strong pokemon, you should always consider every stat important. Let me explain what the defense stat is. Defense is the opposite of attacks. The more defense your pokemon has, the least amount of HP your pokemon will lose. All these stats complete themselves one another. It comes to you to master them all when you try to build a pokemon. These are all the type of attacks that enter the defense category. Normal Fighting Poison Ground Rock Bug Flying Ghost Steel Every move that your opponent or yourself suffers from that type, enters the defense stat. It doesn't matter whether your pokemon is from another type that is not listed above. If he suffers from one of the move above, it will enter in the defense category of stat and lose some HP. Hope you understand more the difference between Defense and Special Defense. --Best of Stats-- 1. Shuckle - This funny pokemon is definitely strong although it has zigzag stats. Anyway, it can actually be a good pokemon if you know how to manipulate it. You'll have to make sure that it won't faint because it doesn't have a lot of Hit Points so bring in some potions. 2) Steelix - This is a powerhouse when it comes to defense. it has 420 stat points. one thing is sure, he'll have a thing or two to say before he faints. A very reliable pokemon with some good moves like Crunch, that he'll learn at level 49. Teach it some good TMs and this pokemon should be on your party. 3) Cloyster - This half ice pokemon is very talented in the defense category. Cloyster maxes defense points around 400. 4) Onix - Don't know if you've noticed but a first evolution is among the top five for the defense stats. Anyway Onix is the fourth best pokemon when it comes to defense. But, if you intend to rely on that rock pokemon then I suggest to evolve it into a steelix. 5) Forretress - Again, another half steel pokemon made its way up in the defense category. Seems to be potential type. It is also a half bug type, which can be very useful against those nasty Psychic pokemon. With its good defense which maxes around 300, it should stay alive quite a long time before it faints. -- Worst -- 1. Chansey - None of the new pokemons are anywhere near Chansey in this category. So it gets this prize twice in a row because he was the worst pokemon in this category in Red/Blue/Yellow. *********************************************************************** *Special Attack - [SPECIAL ATTACK]* *********************************************************************** Brief Description: As you all know, each and every stats are important. Special attack is among the stats you'll want to look at carefully. If you want psychic, water or fire attacks among your pokemons, you will definitely want this stat to be as high as possible. Remember what I said about attacks, only half of the attack types were considered in the attack stats. Well, the whole bunch that was left behind now goes in this stat. So here are the attack types that are part of the Special Attack Stat: Fire Water Electric Grass Ice Psychic Dragon Dark Here are the moves types that enter the Special Attack category. If you have a pokemon that belong to this type, make sure they have high ---Best Of Stat--- 1. Mewtwo - It has an astonishing 340 points in the Special Attack category. Mewtwo is a very reliable pokemon but you can't get him unless you have traded or gotten it via gameshark. A very solid pokemon who learns great attacks at each 11 levels. He'll learn Future Sight at level 44, Psychic at level 66, Recover at level 88. He can also learn a whole bunch of TMs. 2. Espeon (Tie)- The new evolution of Eevee made its way out with its high special attack, 280 points. So if you cannot trade or gameshark your Mew or Mewtwo then stick with the newly design Eevee evolution, Espeon. Lugia is not a good idea especially if you have the gold version because he won't know its best Flying technique, Aeroblast. 2. Alakazam (Tie) - This old generation pokemon tied the score with Espeon. This wouldn't be a bad choice at all if you ever intend on leveling this pokemon. One thing tough, you will have to trade this one or else it will stay in its old form Kadabra. Anyway, if you can't trade and you don't want to go in the long process of Espeons evolution than stick with this one. Alakazams stat for Special Attack is around 270. 2. Gengar (Tie) - He is a half poison type, which is very bad, he is still a worthy pokemon who starts with great attacks. He will start with Hypnosis that you'll want to keep for the future. Also, Dream Eater at level 39 that makes the greatest combo in the game. Gengar is also tied with the two pokemon above when it come to Special Attack. 5. Moltres (Tie) - This legendary bird from Red, Blue and Yellow really got pushed out of its once high glory. Anyway, Moltres is still a tough pokemon but I hate their weakness against electric pokemons. Moltres is tougher than the other two and he is the only one who learns Sky Attack in these games. Moltres maxes out a 270 points in Special Attack. 5. Exeggcutor (Tie) - I really don't know how it manage to have 270 points in Special Attack. Anyway, I'll be brief here, don't bother leveling this one stick with the other. He isn't worthy enough to be leveled. ---Worst--- 1. Shuckle - I don't know for you but I'm actually starting to think that offense is not shuckles thing. Anyway, it can be a good choice if you go out for long travels and you want him to last as long as its possible to reach a Pokemon Center. *********************************************************************** *Special Defense - [SPECIAL DEFENSE]* *********************************************************************** Brief Description: The Special Defense category of stats are practically the same as Special Attack. The only thing that change is the fact that instead of inflicting you recieve damage from an opponent. Here are the attack types that enter the Special Defense stat category. Fire Water Electric Grass Ice Psychic Dragon Dark One thing is sure, every pokemon you intend on building up should always have good Defense and Special Defense because you will have a hard time staying alive. ---Best Of Stat--- 1. Shuckle - YAY!! for Shuckle. I'm sure your starting to ask yourself what kind of pokemon this is. This is a very bizzare pokemon with good defensive skills. In this category Shuckle maxes out 480 points in Special Defense. 2. Lugia - Lugia has 480 points in Special Defense. As you can see, their is a difference of 140 points between Shuckle and Lugia. This is a very big difference. Anyway, one thing is he is badass in this game. Lugia has the best flying attack, Aeroblast. In this game, he has the best stats of all pokemons. So its hard to argue the fact he is the best pokemon. 3. Ho-oh - The legendary pokemon of the gold version. Ho-oh has good Special Defense. It has 330 points for this category. Its flying type cost him a lot in this game because it weak against electric. Anyhow, it has extremely high stats, I know. But if he encounters a Raikou or a Zapdos, he'll be knock out quickly. This is an "if" but this "if" makes all the difference in the end. 4. Mantine (TIE) - This is na exclusive pokemon for the gold version. I think that Skarmory is a better choice by far. It's only good stat is Special Defense other than that it has very bad stats. It will learn decent moves but its to weak to be leveled up. 4. Blissey (Tie) - The only two categories that Blissey masters are its amazing 630 Hit points at level 100 and also 300 points in Special Defense. Although it can't take many normal attacks because of its low defense. Anyway, Blissey has good Sp. Attack and Sp. Defense to compensate his lack of Defense and Attack. ---Worst--- 1. Caterpie - This old genration pokemon is again on the list. Sorry Caterpie but the thing is you can't take a hit without being knocked out. *********************************************************************** *Speed - [SPEED]* *********************************************************************** Brief Description: Many will say this stat is the least important and many tend to forget this one. I for sure thinks it's one of the best stat. If you got a very quick pokemon, it will attack first and maybe even KO your foe. This is surely one of the most important stat. Anyway try to think which pokemon you want without forgetting this category. My opinion, speed is badass to defeat other pokemons. ---Best Of Stats--- 1. Electrode - The good old electrode with its 300 points in speed it's definitely a pokemon that was meant to finish battles quickly. Its other stats aren't that bad. You cold always level this one without getting to much problems with it in the future. 2. Aerodactyl (Tie) - I like Aerodactyl, his Rock/Flying type is a very good mix. It gives Aerodactyl a chance against those nasty electric pokemon. Its other stats are very good compared to many pokemons and he learns a variety of decent moves. He maxes out a 300 points in speed. This is very quick for a rock pokemon. Rock generally have poor speed. 2. Mewtwo (Tie) - It has a lot of speed. It maxes out 290 points. This pokemon is very tough to beat. Mewtwo is a very reliable pokemon but you can't get him unless you have traded or gotten it via gameshark. Anyway, a very solid pokemon who learns great attacks at each 11 levels. He'll learn Future Sight at level 44, Psychic at level 66, Recover at level 88. He can also learn a hole bunch of TMs. 4. Crobat - The only one from the new generation that made its way in the top five for the Speed category. This pokemon is also in the top twenty cumulative. A very reliable pokemon that you should think of leveling up even though its weak to psychic. Crobat has incredible speed that reaches out 280 points for this category. 5. Alakazam (Tie) - This old generation pokemon tied the score with Jolteon. This wouldn't be a bad choice at all if you ever intend on leveling this pokemon. One thing tough, you will have to trade this one or else it will stay in its old form Kadabra. 5. Jolteon (Tie) - If we think of Jolteon in Red/Blue/Yellow, this would definitely be the best pokemon. Jolteon is tied with Alakazam on the speed stats which is around 270 points. *********************************************************************** *Twenty Best Pokemons -[TWENTY BEST POKEMONS]* *********************************************************************** Let me explain this part as simple as it is. These pokemons here, are only listed because of their amount of stats. What it means, the sum of the six different stats combined together makes a grand total of stats cumulative. Example) HP + Attack + Defense + SP. Attack + SP. Defense + Speed = X ---Quagsire--- 310 + 190 + 190 + 160 +160 + 90 = 1100 --> Stat Cumulative. *Note* The Pokemons stats are all rounded up top the nearest 10. ****************************************************************************** Lugia ---------------------- | | | 11 | | 1 1 | | 1 | Mewtwo | 1 | | 1 | ---------------------- 1111111 | | 2222 | Ho-oh | 2 2 | | 2 ---------------------- | 2 | | 2222 3 | | | -------------------------------------------------------------------- #. Crobat - 1310 pts --> Tie 18. Slowking - 1310 pts ¯/ Tie 1) Lugia - One thing is sure Lugia rocks in this game. Lugia has the best flying attack, Aeroblast. In this game, he has the best stats of all pokemons. 2) Mewtwo - Lugia is better than Mewtwo with a somewhat big advantage but Mewtwo is focused on a single type, which is at his advantage. 2) Ho-oh - The legendary pokemon of the gold version. Ho-oh has a tough Special Defense. It has 330 points for this category. Its flying type cost him a lot in this game because it's weak against electric. Anyhow, it has extremely high stats, I know. But, if he encounters a Raikou or a Zapdos, he'll be knock out quickly. This is an "if" but this "if" makes all the difference in the end. . 4) Dragonite - As always, this strong pokemon made its way up again in the classification. It is now even more powerful than it used to be in Red/Blue/Yellow. In the previous version, Dragonite has won this merely by default. 5) Mew - The little pokemon from Red/Blue/Yellow is in the top of the psychic type. He'll learn Psychic at level 40 which is pretty low for a good. He can also learn every HM and TM, which makes him a very reliable pokemon. 5) Celebi - I've decided to put him in here even though I should not because there is no real way to catch him without cheating. 7) Moltres - This legendary bird from Red, Blue and Yellow really got pushed out of its once high glory. Anyway, Moltres is still a tough pokemon but I hate their weakness against electric pokemons. Anyhow, Moltres is tougher than the other two and he is the only one who learns Sky Attack in these games. Moltres maxes out a 270 points in Special Attack. 7) Articuno - The legendary bird of Red/Blue/Yellow is tied with Moltres in the top twenty. It can learn good attacks like Blizzard, only at level 73 though and Ice Beam at level 49. As always these legendary birds have second type flying that cuts their efficacy by half because of their weakness to electric. 9) Suicune - Suicune is very tough pokemon just look at this, on 250 pokemons suicune is the first water pokemon to be up there plus he's ninth in the overall not bad at all. He'll learn Hydro Pump at level 71 which is high but worth to be leveled. 10) Raikou - The best pokemon of the electric class. It has incredibly good stats and high special attack and defense. His skills are limited but learns Spark and Thunder, which are great attacks. As the legendary dogs, these pokemons are great but only at high levels. They learn their best attacks at level 71. 11) Tyranitar - The Tyranitar Family is pretty much like the Red, Blue and Yellow Dragonite family. Tyranitar is very powerful but you'll have to be patient because he only evolves at level 55. He'll learn decent attacks like Rock Slide at level 22, Earthquake at level 61 and Hyper Beam at 75. It is also a half dark that can be a good or bad thing depending on what pokemon your Tyranitar will be confronted too. 11) Zapdos - Yet, another legendary pokemon. Zapdos comes third in the top twenty when it comes to the three birds. Again, its second type flying makes it a crucial disadvantage against electric pokemons. Also he learns Thunder at level 73 which is even higher than Raikou. 13) Although it wasn't talked much in this FAQ, Venusaur is among the greatest pokemons in the game. It is only a matter of type that decreased its worth into battle. Anyway even if he wasn't talked much he is the only Red, Blue and Yellow starter to make its way up in the top twenty. 14) Meganium - A very solid pokemon who can deal great damage. It also has great defense that makes it a tremendously tough pokemon to beat. It has great moves like Synthesis and Body Slam. If you teach it TM 39 then you should think about leaving a free space in your party for this powerful pokemon. This should also be your choice as a starter (Chikorita). 14) Blissey - Blissey has an amazing 630 Hit points at level 100. Although, he can't endure many attacks because of its low defense. Blissey has good Sp. Attack and Sp. Defense to compensate his lack of Defense and Attack. 16) Feraligatr - Feraligtr stats are better in Attack and Defense than it is in Special Attack and Special Defense. For a water pokemon it isn't the best thing to have as stats. It is a Water pokemon and his stats should be upside down, maybe then it would be in my opinion the best water pokemon of the game. He should have better special attack and defense because water type moves are categorized in special attacks. 16) Kingdra - Thanks to Kingdra, Dragonite know has competition even though Dragonite is better. Kingdra is a fine pokemon who has a half type water. It'll evolve from Seadra by trading it with a Dragon Scale equipped. It'll learn its best attack at level 51, which is Hydro Pump. 18) Arcanine - The best fire Pokemon of Red/Blue/Yellow. The only little thing that cost him the first place is that he doesn't learn Fire Blast, Although you can teach him Fire Blast with TMs, Entei has better stats then Arcanine. Entei is much harder to catch than a Growlithe though which isn't in the favor of Entei. 18) Crobat - Amazing that the third evolution of the little Zubat is up in the top twenty. Anyway Crobat will evolve from Golbat by tameness. So you better have to take care of Golbat if you want Crobat. Although, his two types are maybe in my opinion the worst in the game. Look at these two types Poison and Flying. Just the idea of these two types combined makes me shiver. 18) Slowking - For one thing Slowking can be very useful but in many case, he will attack second because of its low speed. Anyway I think it's quite a neat combo, Water and Psychic. It also learns some decent attacks and can be teached a lot of good TMs. *********************************************************************** *Type Moves - [MOVES]* *********************************************************************** ---NORMAL MOVES--- -Attract- Pow: - Acc: 100 PP : 20 TM : 45 Des: Prevents opposite sex attack's (50% success) -Barrage- Pow: 15 Acc: 85 PP : 20 TM : - Des: Attacks 2 - 5 times in one turn. -Baton Pass- Pow: - Acc: - PP : 40 TM : - Des: Swaps pokemon; New pokemon gains any beneficial effects. -Belly Drum- Pow: - Acc: - PP : 10 TM : - Des: Raises attack to MAX, but loses half of MAX HP. -Bide- Pow: - Acc: 100 PP : 10 TM : - Des: Deals Damage = 2x opponents attack after 2 - 3 turns. -Bind- Pow: 15 Acc: 75 PP : 20 TM : - Des: Traps and attacks opponent continuously for 2 - 5 turns. -Body Slam- Pow: 85 Acc: 100 PP : 15 TM : - Des: Paralyzes opponent (30% success) -Charm- Pow: - Acc: 100 PP : 20 TM : - Des: Greatly reduces opponents attack. -Comet Punch- Pow: 18 Acc: 85 PP : 15 TM : - Des: Attacks 2 - 5 times in one turn. -Constrict- Pow: 10 Acc: 100 PP : 35 TM : - Des: Reduces opponents speed (10% success) -Conversion- Pow: - Acc: - PP : 30 TM : - Des: Changes own type to that of one of user's moves. -Defense Curl- Pow: - Acc: - PP : 40 TM : 40 Des: Raises Defense -Disable- Pow: - Acc: 55 PP : 20 TM : - Des: Disable opponents last used move for a few turns. -Dizzy Punch- Pow: 70 Acc: 100 PP : 10 TM : - Des: Confuses opponent (20% Success) -Double-Edge- Pow: 120 Acc: 100 PP : 15 TM : - Des: 1/4 of damage dealt is also dealt to user. -Doubleslap- Pow: 15 Acc: 85 PP : 10 TM : - Des: Attacks 2 - 5 times in one turn. -Double Team- Pow: - Acc: - PP : 15 TM : 32 Des: Raises user's evasion -Egg Bomb- Pow: 100 Acc: 75 PP : 10 TM : - Des: No special properties -Encore- Pow: - Acc: 100 PP : 5 TM : - Des: Opponent must repeat last attack 2 - 5 times -Endure- Pow: - Acc: - PP : 10 TM : 20 Des: User survives with 1HP.
