|---------------------------------------------------| |=====-----(o) ! Pokémon Gold/Silver ! (o)-----=====| |---------------------------------------------------| Written by Son_Goku (songoku@hawaii.rr.com) Version 1.9 Pokémon Gold/Silver was released on the 21st of November in the year of 1999 in Japan. It has been a big thing ever since. The game consists of 100 new Pokémon, where you try to catch 'em all once again. There are male and female Pokémon too, unlike just having the Nidorans stand out like that. Pokémon Gold/Silver has many different changes from its previous title, and it is a whole new world... Version 1.9 - Added more FAQs to the FAQs section, explaining how to get some of the new evolutions. The next update will be when the American version of this game comes out. Version 1.8 - Mistake corrected on how to get Machuuru. Found Eevee in Kogane City. Started the Locations of Pokémon section. Version 1.7 - Walkthrough completed. A few more Evolutions have been added. Found out how to get Houou and Lugia for both Gold and Silver. Version 1.6 - More FAQs, Evolutions, and Pre-Evolutions added. Version 1.5 - Added the Walkthrough up to Ash. Added a few more things in previous areas for the Walkthrough. Explained Breeding better in the FAQ section and found a faster way to travel from map to map. Corrected how to wake Usocky. Version 1.3 - Frequently Asked Questions section added. RPGamer was added to the list of pages that can use this FAQ/Walkthrough. Walkthrough was updated up to after the Elite Four. Version 1.0 - FAQ was started on November 28, 1999. Wakaba Town ----------- After going through the title screen, you start a new game. There you will see Professor Oak explaining about Pokémon, using Mariru as an example. Name your character whatever you want, but his real name is Hiroki. You'll end up in your house, where you first walk down the stairs. After doing so, you'll come across your mother. She gives you something, and then you must set the time. Go to Professor Utsugi's house next, it's just a little northwest of your house, and walk inside. Talk to the professor and he'll allow you to choose one Poké Ball containg either Chicorita, Hinorashi, or Waninoko. |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Who's to Choose? | | | | Some people may be asking who exactly should you choose. Well it all | | depends on who you want to choose. | | | | Chicorita is the grass one with the leaf sticking out of its head. He's | | a good choice to get because he's almost like Bulbasaur. His Grass attacks| | tend to be very strong, however, you have to train him well because the | | first GYM is against Flying type. | | | | Hinorashi seems to be the least favorable to be chosen, as I've seen so | | far on the internet. Hinorashi relates to Charmander, who wasn't chosen | | too often because the first GYM was against Brock, a Rock/Ground Trainer. | | However, the first GYM is against the Flying type, like I've said, so if | | you like Fire, choose Hinorashi. You should know its Hinorashi because it | | looks like a porcupine with a flame on its back. | | | | Waninoko is a popular choice. He is the one that looks like an aligator. | | Waninoko is the one I started off with, I still don't know why. He's | | pretty good, but like all of these Pokémon, it depends what you like. | | | | Each of these Pokémon are good, no matter what you chose. Either get | | Chicorita or Waninoko, if you want, because Chicorita can learn Cut, | | which is necessary later, and Waninok can learn Surf, which is a more | | powerful move than its Water Gun attack. | |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| After deciding, he'll give you your Poké Gear. Head west through the grass fields and battle some Pokémon. |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Useful Pokémon at this Point | | | | Since this is the beginning of your adventure, might I suggest a few | | Pokémon? There are a few of the lousy Pokémon around this area, as some | | may call them. However, do not try to catch them just yet, because you | | don't have any Poké Balls. After a certain point, please refer back to | | this part. The certain point will be labeled a little further into the | | walkthrough. | | | | Hoohoo: If you encounter Hoohoo around this area, try and catch him. He's | | a little better than Pidgey in my opinion, and can learn Fly. Plus, his | | evolved form looks really cool. | | | | Otachi: One of the new Pokémon, Otachi looks like a flying squirel. If | | you didn't get Chicorita as your starter, I suggest getting Otachi. It | | can learn Cut and is very useful for the beginning of the game. But later | | in the game, it's usefulness dies out. | | | | Pidgey: If you hate building up Pokémon, dont get Pidgey. It evolves to | | Pidgeot very late as you may know. But, if you want someone you can give | | Fly to, choose Pidgey, but I suggest you get Hoohoo instead. | | | | Rattata: Don't bother with this guy, he's useless! If you really want it, | | go get Rattata, but I suggest you don't, if you don't like wasintg Poké | | Balls. | |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| Keep going west till you arrive in... Yoshino City ------------ Go to the Pokémon Center (labeled P.C. on the building) and heal your Pokémon if needed. Don't bother trying to get Poké Balls because they aren't being sold just yet. Head west then north up a path. You should come up to see two people battling a little further into the path. Talk to one of the guys and then head north till you reach a house. Go inside and it's Professor Oak. Talk to him and he'll give you a Pokédex. Oak will then leave the house and talk to the other guy to heal your Pokémon. After that, Professor Utsugi calls you on the Poké Gear telling you to return to Wakaba Town. Head back the way you came and exit Yoshino City, but first, someone approaches. It's your rival, but he is named ??? for now. He'll battle you with the Pokémon he chose. If you chose Chicorita, he has a Hinorashi. If you chose Hinorashi, he has a Waninoko. If you chose Waninoko, he has a Chicorita. Just beat him if you can to earn some money. I don't think it's required to beat him, but just try. After winning/losing to your rival, he'll leave and you should head back to Wakaba Town. Wakaba Town ----------- Go into Professor Utsugi's laboratory and then you'll talk with a police officer. The police officer will say that a Pokémon was stolen from Utsugi's laboratory. It was your rival who did it, so now you can finally name him. Name him whatever you want, but Kamon is his name. Leave Professor Utsugi's place and head back to Yoshino Town. There you can buy some Poké Balls at last. (Now go back to the section titled 'Useful Pokémon at this Point') Head up back to where the two people were fighting and you'll see that they're gone. Go through the path and you should arrive in Kikyou City. Kikyou City ----------- There is a GYM there in Kikyou City that uses Flying type Pokémon. Don't go there just yet, head over north to a tower. This tower is called Bellsprout Tower, and it's obviously named that because all the people inside mostly use Bellsprouts. Defeat the Trainers as you make your way up to the top. Your rival is there and he is seen leaving, aftering beating the main guy of the tower. Beat the main guy of the tower as well to receive your reward, the Flash HM. Heal now and if you want to get a Geodude, head east to the cave and catch one. If you don't want one, just go straight to the GYM. It is very, very easy. |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Hayato | | | | Hayato is a very easy GYM that will use Flying type Pokémon. | | | | Pidgey: Very easy to beat. Just use whatever you want on him, except a | | Geodude. | | | | Pidgeotto: Just like Pidgey, but a little bit harder. | | | | Wing Badge: Allows you to use Flash. | |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| For beating Hayato, you will earn the Wing Badge. Leave the Kikyou GYM and go to the Pokémon Center. Talk to a guy by the counter and he'll give you Togepi, but still in its egg form. (A few walkthroughs and FAQs say that Togepi will hatch in a certain place. That's not true. Togepi hatches only after a certain time. It is never going to hatch in just a certain place.) Leave Kikyou City and head south. Go through the rock like tunnel that has a few Trainers in it. When you exit, head west and you'll enter Hiwanda Town, a place that Team Rocket has taken over. Hiwanda Town ------------ You should notice that one Team Rocket member is guarding a well-like structure. Ignore this for now, but remember where it is. Go to the northern most house in the town and talk to a man. He should be inside with his daughter. The man will soon run out of the house. Go back to the well-like structure and you'll see that the Team Rocket member is gone. Go down the well-like structure and beat the Rockets down there. Soon, you'll find a bunch of Slowpokes, which were stolen by Team Rocket. Team Rocket is soon defeated and you return them to the town. After doing so, head over to the Hiwanda GYM, where you should encounter a bunch of Trainers with Bug type Pokémon. Make your way up to the GYM Leader, Tsukushi. |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Tsukushi | | | | Tsukushi seems like a push-over at first because she has a Metapod and | | Kakuna, but you must be aware of her Scyther. | | | | Metapod: Do you really need strategy against this...? | | | | Kakuna: Be ashamed if you lose against a Kakuna... | | | | Scyther: If you have chosen Hinorashi as your starting Pokémon, you | | should have no problem using its Fire attacks on Scyther. If you don't | | have Hinorashi, use Geodude if you have it. Scyther has no Grass attacks, | | only weak hits that will barely affect Geodude. If you don't have Geodude | | either, then try anything you can. | | | | Insect Badge: Level 30 Pokémon obey you. | |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| Leave the GYM and heal your Pokémon at the Pokémon Center, because when you head west to exit the town, you'll encounter your rival. Your rival will now have a Zubat, Gastly, and the second stage of his starting Pokémon. He may seem a bit hard for some of you. If he is, then I suggest you build up a few levels and then fight him. Defeat your rival and head the way you were going, west. You'll end up in a dark forest area. Walk up north and to the east a little until you see a bird. It's a Farfetch'd. Talk to it and it'll run away. Keep on following it until it leads you to a police officer and its owner. The police officer will give you the Cut HM when you talk to him. Equip Cut on Otachi or Chicorita and cut your way through the bushes till you find a building to the west. Kogane City ----------- Possibly around this time, Togepi should be hatching. Head straight to the GYM if you want, but I advise you, it is a bit harder than the last two. If you don't wish to go to the GYM right away, you can do a few things. First, get the Bicycle to travel faster. Just go into the Bike Shop located east in the city and talk to the man behind the counter. You can also get the Radio in the Radio Tower, located west. You can tell it's the Radio Tower because of its large size. Talk to the woman at the east end of the counter. To obtain the Radio first, you must answer he questions in the correct response. The answers are Yes, Yes, No, Yes, and No, I believe. To obtain an Eevee, go to the house west of the Pokémon Center in this city. Go inside and you should see Bill with a few other people inside. Talk to him and make sure you have an open slot in your line-up. After answering 'Yes' to Bill, he will give you an Eevee. Now go to the GYM. |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Akane | | | | Akane is a GYM Leader that will use her powerful Normal type Pokémon. | | Don't be caught off guard by her using Normal Pokémon, Mirutank is hard. | | | | Clefairy: Very simple to beat, just hope that it doesn't hit you with a | | powerful move, because it does have Metronome already. | | | | Mirutank: Probably the hardest thing you've fought up to this point. | | Mirutank uses a Tackle attack, which is very powerful. My suggestion is | | that if you can't beat it, use Togepi to make its attack go down by using | | its screaming move. Then, have a Pokémon use Leer to make its defense | | lower. Finish Mirutank up by attacking head on with your most powerful | | Pokémon. | | | | Regular Badge: ??? | |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| Akane doesn't give you the Regular Badge at first, but talk to her after you lost and she should give it to you. If she didn't give it to you when you've talked to her, try exiting the GYM and going back in. Then talk to her. She should give you the Badge now. Next go to the house to the east of the GYM. Find the lady near the flowers and she should give you some Squirtle Liquid. You'll need this for later. Head north and defeat all the Trainers. If you want to do a Safari Zone related thing, go into the building and talk to the guy standing by the door. Sometimes, this guy is behind the counter, so that means he won't do a thing. If the guy in that building never moves, go north through the park and east into another building. There should be another guy standing by the door. Same thing, if he's behind the counter, he won't do anything. It all depends on what time it is. Anyway, when he finally stays by the door, talk to him. He'll give you 20 Safari Balls and ask that you only bring one Pokémon. Choose your Pokémon and head into the grass. Caterpie, Weedle, Venonat, Scyther, and Pinsir are the few to name in the area. Scyther and Pinsir seem to be the only ones worth getting, but Venonat may be something you want to get, because it is partially Psychic. Leave this place and head east. You should find some kind of tree blocking your path. Press the 'A' Button and you'll shake it. Now use that Squirtle Liquid the flower lady gave to you and it should pop out at you and attack. This is Usocky, a Pokémon obviously. Catch Usocky if you want, then head north into Enju City. However you might want to pick up TM 8, which breaks cracked rocks. Talk to a fat man just east of where Usocky was who should give it to you. Enju City --------- Heal up and head straight for the GYM. This GYM uses Ghost Pokémon, but the first thing you'll notice is that the path to the GYM Leader is completely black. It's a very simple invisible path, and you should reach the GYM Leader, Matsuba in no time. |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Matsuba | | | | Matsuba uses all the known Ghost type Pokémon. Use anything except | | physical attacks on his Pokémon, because physical attacks go through the | | Ghosts. | | | | Gastly: Easy to defeat, use something like Water Gun, Razor Leaf, or | | Ember to knock him out. | | | | Haunter: Only a little bit harder than Gastly, because it's Gastly's | | evolved stage. | | | | Gengar: Use very strong attacks on Gengar, because it is the strongest | | Pokémon Matsuba has. | | | | Haunter: It's not over yet, just use the same strategy you used on the | | previous Haunter. | | | | You'll notice that the Ghost Pokémon will use a move that involves | | stabbing themselves. This move takes away half of their HP, but it also | | creates some kind of curse on you, so watch out for it. | | | | Phantom Badge: Level 50 Pokémon obey you. | |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| Don't leave Enju City just yet. There are two more places to go. First go to a large house in the city and you'll find that there are dancers in there. Talk to all five of the dancers, each one should fight you. They use the Eevee evolutions, so they're not hard to beat. After beating them, talk to the man watching and he'll give you the Surf HM. Next, go to the tower located in the northwest area of Enju City. Equip TM 8 on one of your Pokémon and break the cracked rocks. Make your way up the west side first, then head north. Go east and then south, falling down in a hole. You'll arrive underground of the tower. Head north and you'll see three Pokémon. Once you're close, the three will run away in different directions. Those Pokémon were Raikou, Entei, and Suikun, the Legendary Dogs. Now head west and then south so you'll reach Asagi City. Asagi City ---------- As you enter the city, your rival exits the GYM, telling you it's empty. Go to the Pokémon Center and heal, then go to a house in the most southwest of the city. Talk to the man in there and he'll give you the Strength HM. Equip Surf and Strength on your Pokémon now if you haven't, and Surf southwest to Tanba City. Tanba City ---------- Go to the Pokémon Center to heal if needed and go to the GYM. Inside this GYM they use Fighting Pokémon, but they're really not that hard. You'll soon be done with the Trainers and meet up with three boulders. Use Strength to move the left boulder up, then use Strength again to move the right boulder up. You'll be left with the center boulder untouched, so either move that to the left or right and the path to Shijima will be opened. |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Shijima | | | | Shijima is a strong Pokémon GYM Leader that uses Fighting type Pokémon. | | Don't be afraid of his Primeape, but watch out for Poliwrath. | | | | Primeape: Have a fast, strong Pokémon attack Primeape head on for a fast | | win. | | | | Poliwrath: If you have Mokoko or Denryuu already, use it because | | ThunderShock will bang up Poliwrath. Also, if you have Chicorita, then it | | should also be simple, just use Razor Leaf. | | | | Shock Badge: Level 70 Pokémon obey you. | |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| Heal your Pokémon and go to a house south of the GYM. Inside you should find a guy with sunglasses on. Talk to him and he'll give you medicine. Now Surf back to Asagi City. Asagi City ---------- Go east and you should find a large tower. Make your way to the top after beating Trainers to find Mikan, the Asagi City GYM Leader, with her sick Pokémon. Give the medicine to her and she'll thank you by going back to her GYM. (If the guy with the sunglasses didn't give you the medicine before, go back to him now. I'm not sure if you had to talk to Mikan first to get the medicine, that's why.) Now, the Asagi City GYM is inhabited, but only by one person, Mikan. (Two if you're counting the guy that's always near entrance of the GYM.) Make your way up to Mikan and talk to her. A battle for the Steel Badge will start. |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Mikan | | | | Mikan is a GYM Leader that uses the new Type of Pokémon called the Steel | | Type. | | | | Magnemite: Magnemite may not be as simple as you think. It uses SonicBoom,| | a cheap attack that lowers your HP by quite a bit. Try using a high Rock | | or Ground Type Pokémon if you can. (Thanks to GJ | | for the name of the move) | | | | Magnemite: Same strategy as the other Magnemite. | | | | Hagane-Ru: Very simple to defeat, even if it does look threatening. Use | | a few Water attacks on him and he should faint in no time. | | | | Steel Badge: ??? | |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| Choju Town ---------- Go back to Enju City and head east through a building. Surf east a bit and you should arrive in Choju Town. Someone's blocking the GYM, so there is no way to enter it just yet. Head up north and you'll see a Gyarados in the water. Surf to it and you'll fight it. Capture it if you want, since it's a strange red color. After that, go back on land and go south a little till you see someone looking at a sign. Talk to him and it's Lance. He'll talk to you and then disappear. Go back to Choju Town and enter the Shop. Lance will reveal it's a Team Rocket base, and lead you down into their basement. You and Lance must now stop Team Rocket's operations, so you're left on your own. Walk around this place and pick up everything you see. Soon you'll encounter a researcher by a computer. Defeat him and look at the computer. These things are telling you passwords, which are required to open up those irritating gates like in the previous version of the game. On the next floor, Lance will meet up with you again and talk. Your rival should also meet up with you, but he doesn't want a fight this time. Soon you'll reach the top and fight the male Team Rocket boss. He's pretty easy. After defeating him, talk to the bird in that room and you'll get the final password. Go back down to the floor with the gate blocking you from entering the area with machines inside. The two Team Rocket bosses, male and female, will appear and Lance will help you fight them. This time, you're fighting the female Team Rocket boss. She's also easy, so defeat her. After beating them, they'll run away by disappearing. Go into the area with the machines now and help Lance destroy the Electrodes supplying the base with electricity. There are three of them, and they usually do SelfDestruct. When that's all through, Lance will give you HM 6, titled Whirlpool. Go back outside and you'll see that the man guarding the GYM door is not there. Go inside now and get ready to fight Ice Trainers. There is a small puzzle inside the GYM to get to its leader, Yanagi. It's another pretty simple puzzle. |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Yanagi | | | | Yanagi is an old man who is a GYM Leader. He uses average Ice Pokémon | | which seem to be real pushovers. | | | | Seel: If you have a Fire Pokémon, take care of Seel quickly. Otherwise, | | resort to using strong physical attacks. | | | | Inomuu: Easy to defeat, use the same strategy you used on Seel. | | | | Dewgong: Same thing...easy, huh? | | | | Ice Badge: ??? | |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| Kogane City ----------- After winning your seventh Badge, Professor Utsugi will call you. Go all the way back to Kogane City and enter the Radio Tower to the west. Inside there are a bunch of Team Rocket members. When on the third floor, to the east, you should notice that there's a gate. Ignore that, because that will be opened later. Make your way up to the top after beating all the Team Rocket members and you'll meet the male boss again. Defeat him and recieve a key. Exit the tower and head north into an underground passage. Go down into the underground passage, then head east to unlock the door. Make sure you're at full health because your rival will soon encounter you and a fight will happen. He has stronger Pokémon this time, so I hope you saved. After that, there is a puzzle dealing with pressing switches. I have no idea what the real number order is to unlock the correct path, but it's simple to figure out. Soon after, you'll find some people trapped on a floor. Talk to one of the men and he'll give you a card key. Use this in the elevator nearby to go up. You'll find yourself in the Shop, now go back to the tower. If you remember where the gate that was blocking your path was, go there now. You should be able to open it. Fight the rest of the Team Rocket members along with the two bosses. After beating them, head back to Choju Town. Fusube City ----------- Go all the way back to Choju Town and head east into the icy cave. There are more ice puzzles like the one in the Choju Town GYM. You should also be able to find HM 7, which is Waterfall. After doing everything in the cave, head on out and south to Fusube City. Heal your Pokémon and go to the GYM. Defeat the Dragon Pokémon Trainers and fight Ibuki. You'll need a Pokémon with Strength to push down the stones in this GYM in order to get to Ibuki. |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Ibuki | | | | Ibuki is the final GYM Leader of the Jolt League, and possibly, the | | hardest. Her Dragon Pokémon can prove to be the only possible challenge | | this League. | | | | Dragonair: Use an Electric type Pokémon. If you have Thunder Punch or | | ThunderBolt, those will work good. Also, try to paralyze her using a | | Thunder Wave. | | | | Dragonair: Same strategy, since it's the same level as the first one. | | | | Dragonair: Same thing... | | | | Kingudora: The evolved form of Seadra as it appears to be. Kingudora is | | like the Dragonairs. However, it is very fast. Again, try paralyzing it | | and knock it out quick with anything that's strong. | | | | Raging Badge: All Pokémon obey you. | |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| Ibuki won't give you the Raging Badge just yet. Leave the GYM and go behind it. Surf to an opening, which will lead you into a cave. Go down the stairs and equip HM 6 on one of your Pokémon. Surf down and to the west to find a whirlpool. Don't go into the whirlpool, stay in front of it and press the 'A' button. Your Pokémon with the HM equiped should destroy it. Now, head south and to the east. Then north till you see an item. Go over to it and pick it up. Ibuki will then meet up with you and give you the Raging Badge. Leave the cave and head back to Wakaba Town. Wakaba Town ----------- After you got the eighth Badge, Professor Utsugi will call you. Go all the way back to Wakaba Town. Just Fly if you want, it's faster. But for you walkers, just head south of Fusube City. Talk to Utsugi in his house and he'll give you a Master Ball. Since you have gotten all eight Badges, you can now enter the Pokémon League. But really, it's just the Elite Four. This is going to be a very hard battle, so I suggest you build up your Pokémon into the high fourties. For extra power, get Houou or Lugia. Both are available in both versions. Houou and Lugia ---------------- - Houou Go back to Enju City and into the large tower with the moving block. Just ascend the stairs till you get to the top. There should be Houou. I suggest that you save before you fight him because this is the only chance you'll be able to get him. - Lugia Surf south of Asagi City. You'll find four caves. Go to the northeast cave and walk down the ladder. Head east and two paths will be seen, one on the top and the other on the bottom. Go to the one on the top, then head south. Now head south down the waterfall and go to the cave just west of it. Surf north and Lugia should be there. Like Houou, save before you fight him because you'll only have one chance to fight him. - Houou in Silver and Lugia in Gold? Yes, it is true. Both are available in both versions. To get them, you must go to Pewter City. Talk to an old man standing somewhere in the city, not in a house. He'll either give you the Gold Feather or the Silver Feather, depending on what version you're playing. Once obtaining this, go to Enju City for Houou, and the caves south of Asagi City for Lugia. Both are in the same area, nothing is changed. The only thing that is different is that the Pokémon is Level 70. For example, you fight Houou using Silver, it's Level 70. Same thing goes for Lugia. And, the Pokémon are harder to catch. The Pokémon League ------------------ Even if you got Houou/Lugia or not, it doesn't make a difference. In Wakaba Town, Surf to the east and a man will give you another map. Go east some more and enter a cave. You'll need to Surf into the water and end up seeing a waterfall. Equip HM 7, Waterfall, on one of your Pokémon. Stay in front of the waterfall and press the 'A' button. You should be able to ascend the waterfall this time. Go to the east and then down another waterfall. Leave the cave. Head on east till you can go east no more. Then head north up to the entrance building of the last cave. This cave is very simple to go through. At the end of the cave, save. You'll battle your rival as you're about to leave it. He has strong Pokémon, but they aren't compared to what the Elite Four has. Go north and into the building. Heal your Pokémon and buy what's needed because the Elite Four is very hard. * Note: The order the Elite Four send out their Pokémon is never known. The order listed is the order they usually send out their Pokémon. It may vary. |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Itsuki | | | | Itsuki is the first of the Elite Four, giving you a taste of what they're | | all about. He uses Psychic Pokémon, but they're not just pure Psychic. | | | | Neitio: This bird is very fast. Use Denryuu if you have it because it | | should have Thunder Punch, which can knock out Neitio in one hit. | | | | Jynx: Beware of its Lovely Kiss, Jynx can put your Pokémon to sleep. | | Forget using Electric Pokémon, use something with a lot of strength like | | a Gyarados to knock out Jynx in one or two rounds. | | | | Exeggutor: Again, power is all that will matter against Exeggutor. It's | | psychic powers seem to be the strongest of all the Pokémon Itsuki has. | | | | Slowbro: Thunder Punch, bam! It's finished. | | | | Neitio: Same strategy as the previous Neitio. | |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Koga | | | | Looks like Koga was promoted from the Fuchsia City GYM Leader to one of | | the Elite Four. However, Koga is the simplest of the four. | | | | Ariadosu: This spider can be knocked out within two rounds with a strong | | attack. | | | | Foretoso: Use something like Surf or Hydro Pump to knock Foretoso out in | | one or two rounds. | | | | Venomoth: Use a Thunder Punch followed up by a ThunderShock to knock out | | him. | | | | Muk: This one is very powerful because it takes less damage than the | | other Pokémon Koga has. Try using Surf or Hydro Pump to knock Muk out. | | Otherwise, do not use regular physical attacks. Only the most powerful of | | the physical attacks actually work. | | | | Kurobatto: A Thunder Punch followed up by a Thundershock will knock him | | out. | |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Bruno | | | | As the strength of the Elite Four, Bruno uses Fighting Pokémon to aid | | him. | | | | Kapoera: Use strong physical attacks to knock Kapoera out. Beware, | | because it has Dig, which makes it avoid an attack for one round. | | | | Hitmonchan: Don't use Gyarados if you have it, since Hitmonchan will use | | Thunder Punch on it, causing double damage. Try using Denryuu or some | | other powerful Pokémon. Mostly any attack will do damage to Hitmonchan, | | but knock him out quickly. | | | | Hitmonlee: Use something powerful with strong attacks, because Hitmonlee | | will usually start things off by confusing your Pokémon. If you're lucky | | and land one powerful blow on Hitmonlee, it'll faint. | | | | Onix: Surf or Hydro Pump will knock it out immediately. | | | | Machamp: Machamp proves to be the most powerful of the five Pokémon. Be | | quick and use very powerful moves to knock Machamp out. Try not to use | | Gyarados, because it has low defense. | |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Karin | | | | Karin is the last of the Elite Four and probably the easiest one. She | | uses the new Evil type Pokémon. | | | | Blackie: Something powerful will knock Blackie out in one or two rounds. | | | | Vileplume: Use Fire moves if you have any. Try knocking out Vileplume | | quickly, because it will poison you and do serious damage. | | | | Gengar: Gengar will use its new voodoo move and half its HP. Take | | advantage of this and use something powerful, not a physical attack, to | | take him out. | | | | Yamikarasu: The easiest one, just use a Thunder Punch. | | | | Herugga: Use Surf or Hydro Pump to knock this fire dog out. | |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| That wasn't so hard, now was it? It's not over yet, there's the Pokémon League Champion to fight, Lance. |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Lance | | | | From the fourth member of the Elite Four to the Pokémon League Champion, | | Lance is still the same. He uses his Dragon Pokémon, which are very easy | | to defeat with an Electric Pokémon. | | | | Gyarados: Thunder Punches will knock Gyarados out quickly. Avoid its | | Hyper Beam. | | | | Dragonite: Same as Gyarados, but with a little more HP. | | | | Dragonite: Same strategy as the Dragonite before it. | | | | Aerodactyl: Use a Hydro Pump on Aerodactyl because it is partially Rock. | | It also has Hyper Beam, so avoid that. | | | | Charizard: Use Hydro Pump to knock Charizard out in one round. | | | | Dragonite: Same strategy as the other Dragonties, but this time, | | Dragonite has more HP. | |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| Congratulations, you've beaten the Pokémon League to become the Pokémon League Champion. Professor Utsugi and your mother will rush in and congratulate you. However, you go in the back with Lance to enter your Pokémon in the Hall of Fame. Watch the credits roll by and the title screen, 'The End', appears. However, this is not the end... You find yourself back in Wakaba Town. Talk to Professor Utsugi and he'll give you a Boat Ticket. Now, go to Asagi City and down a path till you reach the area where a sailor once blocked. You have the Boat Ticket, so you can now enter the St. Anne. St. Anne -------- Battle all the Trainers if you want, you can always change your line-up and heal in your room. Your room is the one all the way at the west end with the sailor in front of it. You'll learn from one man that his daughter is missing Go up the stairs and talk to the sailor, who won't let you pass. Go back down and enter the room to the right of your room and fight the Sailor there. Defeat him and go back up. You can now pass through. Head west and then up another set of stairs. You'll find the girl talking to the ship's captain. You'll be transported back to the old man and he'll thank you for finding his daughter. Vermilion City -------------- The St. Anne will come to a halt, and you'll find yourself in Vermilion City. Everything is almost exactly the same like the previous game. Head to Lt. Surge's GYM if you wish to fight him right away. You won't need to do the puzzle of where the buttons are in the rubbish cans to open the door, the door is already open to Surge. |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Lt. Surge | | | | Lt. Surge uses Electric type Pokémon. You'd better be on guard, or he'll | | destroy you quickly. | | | | Raichu: I suggest that you use a Rock or Ground Pokémon because Raichu | | may resort into using a Electric attack. If you have no Rock or Ground | | Pokémon, hit him quickly with powerful attacks. | | | | Magneton: Same strategy as Raichu, except sometimes Magneton may hit you | | with SonicBoom, so you'd better try using a fast Pokémon. | | | | Electrode: Usually these things will use Double Team, then SelfDestruct | | so use a Pokémon with a lot of HP, or try to destroy it in one round. | | | | Electabuzz: Lt. Surge's strongest Pokémon, Electabuzz can paralyze you. | | Use a Rock or Ground Pokémon to try lowering your chances for a paralyze | | and hit him hard with Rock attacks. | | | | Electrode: Same strategy as the previous Electrode. | | | | Thunder Badge | |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| Saffron City ------------ Go north to Saffron City. Heal if you need to and go fight Sabrina. To get to her, just teleport using the squares on the ground. It's a simple pattern, all you do is go on the block to the left or right of you. For example, if you've just teleported onto a block and there's one just to the left of you, go on that one. Do not go onto another block if you have to reach it by going up or down, going the left right pattern is easier. After a while of teleporting, go fight Sabrina. |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Sabrina | | | | Sabrina is a tough Psychic Trainer that uses Psychic Pokémon. Her skill | | is unmatched by many, but her Pokémon are simple to defeat. | | | | Eefi: Use a strong attack on him and he should faint in no time. | | | | Mr. Mime: Two powerful attacks will knock her out. Yes, HER. The reason | | it's a she is because America messed up its name. Its real name is | | Barriyado, and that doesn't suggest its always going to be a male or | | female. | | | | Alakazam: Again, two or three powerful attacks will knock him out | | | | Marsh Badge | |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| Lavender Town ------------- Now go east to Lavender Town and enter the tower that was once known as the Pokémon Tower. It has been transformed into a Radio Tower! Talk to everyone inside then go back to Saffron City. Head north from there to enter Cerulean City. Cerulean City ------------- Once in Cerulean, head east through all the Trainers. When you reach the end, there should be a body of water. Surf through that water and head on down south where the Power Plant used to be. It's been transformed into a Power Station. Talk to the man operating the generators in the room with all the big machines and go back to Cerulean City. Enter the GYM and a Team Rocket member will bump into you. After talking to him, exit and head to the 'Nugget Bridge' just up north. The Team Rocket member should be there. Talk to him and fight his Golbat. After defeating him, he'll tell you about something he hid in the GYM. Go to the east now and through all the Trainers. Once you reach the end of that, Misty will talk to you and go back to her GYM. Now go back to the Cerulean City GYM and face Misty. The item the Team Rocket member hid in the GYM is located in the very small pool by the first Trainer in the GYM. It at the top left hand side of the pool. Just press the 'A' button to obtain it. |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Misty | | | | Misty looks like she has grown up a lot since the previous game, | | especially with the Pokémon she uses. Don't worry, Misty isn't very hard. | | | | Golduck: A Thunder Punch will easily defeat Golduck in one round. | | | | Nuoo: Same thing as Golduck, Thunder Punch her. | | | | Lapras: Probably Misty's hardest one, it may take TWO Thunder Punches... | | | | Starmie: Again, Thunder Punch. | | | | Cascade Badge | |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| After defeating Misty, go back to the Power Station to give the item that was inside the GYM to the man by the big machines. He'll give you a TM in return. Next, go back to Lavender Town and enter the Radio Tower. Talk to the man in the tophat and he'll upgrade your radio, so it can use the highest frequency. Celadon City ------------ Head down south and cut the bush that blocks your way. Head west and you should arrive at Erika's GYM, the place it was in the previous game. |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Erika | | | | Erika like the other past GYM Leaders has upgraded her Pokémon. She now | | uses some of the most powerful Pokémon, that are somewhat a challenge. | | | | Tangela: Just use FlameThrower on Tangela and it should faint quickly. A | | strong attack will do fine as well. Watch out, because Tangela uses | | Absorb, which steals your HP and uses it to heal itself. | | | | Watakko: Same thing as Tangela, but I don't think it has Absorb. | | | | Kireihana: This one may prove to be somewhat a threat because of its | | powerful SolarBeam attack. Watch out and attack quickly with fire before | | you get hit. | | | | Victreebel: Burn Victreebel quickly, or use powerful attacks on it. | | | | Rainbow Badge | |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| Go back up north and head west to the Cycling Road. Take the road down to Fuchsia City. Fuchsia City ------------ You'll notice a few things. One being that there is no Safari Zone, and the second, a new GYM Leader. (It is unconfirmed that it's Aya, Koga's sister) Inside the Fuchsia City GYM, there will be a lot of Trainers that look like Anzu, the GYM Leader. Lot of them are fake, and the real one is on the west side. There are invisible walls in this GYM, but it should be easy to see where you're going, since they are more like dotted lines. |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Anzu | | | | Anzu is the new GYM Leader in place of Koga, who is now part of the Elite | | Four. She uses almost the exact same Pokémon as Koga, Poision ones. | | | | Kurobatto: A Thunder Punch should finish it off easily. | | | | Ariadosu: Use a very powerful attack to defeat Ariadosu. | | | | Weezing: Again, another powerful attack will do the job. | | | | Weezing: Same strategy as the previous Weezing. | | | | Venomoth: Try a few Thunder Punches and strong attacks to knock Venomoth | | out. Be quick, because Venomoth does have Psychic. | | | | Soul Badge | |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| Vermilion City -------------- Make your way back once again to Vermilion City and head east to the Diglett Cave. You'll find that there's a sleeping Snorlax, so wake it up by going into your Poké Gear option and going into your radio. Turn the radio up to 15, the maximum frequency and then talk to Snorlax. Snorlax will wake up in an angry mood. Catch Snorlax, beacuse it's very strong. Go through the Diglett Cave and you should arrive near Pewter City. Pewter City ----------- Head northwest to Pewter City and face Brock. |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Brock | | | | Brock has grown like Misty and has collected newer, stronger Pokémon. | | | | Graveler: Use Surf to knock Graveler out quickly. | | | | Omastar: It may take a Hydro Pump or two to knock Omastar out. Try also | | using Thunder Punch too, because Omastar is Rock/Water. | | | | Onix: Use a Hydro Pump to knock Onix out easily. | | | | Kabutops: Same strategy as Omastar, because it is Rock/Water too. | | | | Rhyhorn: A Hydro Pump will do the trick. | | | | Boulder Badge | |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| Now you can, head off to Mt. Moon to the east. As you enter the mountain, your rival will attack you for the final time. Defeat him, because he was just like your last enouncter before the Elite Four, but with his Pokémon a little stronger. You could ignore the Mt. Moon part and head on down south to Pallet Town. Ignore the Viridian City GYM, because no one is in it. Talk to Professor Oak inside his house. Cinnibar Island --------------- Head down south and Surf south some more till you reach land. Talk to Gary who is examining something. He'll talk to you and then fly away. Heal your Pokémon on the small island if you want and Surf to the east. You should see a small cave. Go inside and it's Blaine's hidden GYM. |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Blaine | | | | Blaine has thrown away his wig and got newer Pokémon like all of the old | | GYM Leaders. However, his small number of Pokémon make him very weak. | | | | Magakarugo: A simple Hydro Pump can knock Magakarugo out in no time. | | | | Magmar: Yet again, a Hydro Pump may do the job, but it might take a | | little more, since Magmar is stronger than Magakarugo. | | | | Rapidash: This is the only Pokémon that may actually hit you. Don't worry | | though. If you're using a strong Water Pokémon, Surf or Hydro Pump will | | quickly extinguish Rapidash. | | | | Volcano Badge | |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| Viridian City ------------- Head back to Viridian City after defeating Blaine. Go inside the GYM and there will only be one person inside, Gary, the new GYM Leader. |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Gary | | | | After constantly losing to Ash in the previous game, and the disappearing | | of Giovanni, Gary has become the new Viridian City GYM Leader. Unlike the | | other GYM Leaders, Gary is no pushover. | | | | Pidgeot: A Thunder Punch will nicely handle Pidgeot. | | | | Gyarados: Be sure to try and defeat Gyarados as quickly as possible. A | | Thunder Punch should do the job. | | | | Exeggutor: Burn Exeggutor with fire moves quickly before it gives you a | | Psychic attack. Watch out for its SolarBeam and Leech Seed too. | | | | Alakazam: Use anything powerful against Alakazam, then he should faint. | | | | Rhydon: Rhydon is possibly the most dangerous Pokémon Gary has if you | | fail to knock it out as soon as possible. Hydro Pump should do the job. | | | | Arcanine: Another Hydro Pump will knock Gary's most prized Pokémon out. | | | | Earth Badge | |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| Go back to Pallet Town and talk to Professor Oak. He'll tell you to go to Shirogane Mountain. Go back to Viridian City and head westward. Enter the building and keep going west. You'll find yourself in the building that led to the Elite Four in the new world. Exit the building by heading west and out of the door. Head northwest to Shirogane Mountain. Heal if you want, there's a Pokémon Center nearby. Go through the mountain and soon at the end you'll find Ash standing all by himself. Talk to him to have the final battle of the game. |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Ash | | | | Ash has changed from the previous game. Equipped with the same Pokémon | | the television show, some evolved, Ash can take down some strong Trainers.| | This is the final battle, so be prepared. | | | | Pikachu: Ash's highest leveled Pokémon is the easiest. Use strong attacks | | such as Body Slam, Slash, or Hyper Beam to knock out Pikachu. Do not use | | try using a Water Pokémon because as you know, Pikachu is fast. Meaning, | | he'll use a Thunder, which can cause serious damage. | | | | Eefi: Resort to using your most powerful attacks. Anything will work. Try | | to use a Scyther though, because it's a Bug type. But, be quick, because | | Eefi really likes to use its Psychic attack, and this is only the second | | Pokémon, so you can't afford to lose one of yours here. | | | | Snorlax: Snorlax is Ash's strongest Pokémon, and takes the longest to | | defeat. Snorlax will usually start off by using Body Slam or Amnesia. | | Once you bring him down to a low HP level, Snorlax will Rest, causing it | | to gain all of its HP back. But sometimes during this nap, Snorlax does | | some sort of attack that hits you. Once Snorlax wakes up, if you did | | damage when it was sleeping, it'll go back to sleep again, restoring its | | HP to full. To defeat this big lug, either using a very, very powerful | | Pokémon. Mostly any powerful attack can do major damage, if your Pokémon | | is strong, since Snorlax is a Normal type. Or you can make him run out of | | attacks. You should have a Pokémon with Recover, or a lot of Super/Max | | Potions if you're going to do this. | | | | Blastoise: Beat Blastoise as soon as possible! It has a Blizzard attack | | which can cause some major damage to almost any Pokémon. One powerful | | SolarBeams should do the job here. | | | | Venusaur: Venusaur will usually do SolarBeam, so you have a free turn | | to do some damage. However, SolarBeam is powerful, so you might want to | | heal for that turn. Just try knocking it out with Ice or Fire attacks. | | | | Charizard: Finally, the last Pokémon. Charizard is very simple. If you | | have the red Gyarados up at a high level, and it has Hydro Pump, use it. | | Two Hydro Pumps will knock out Charizard. | |---------------------------------------------------------------------------| After defeating Ash, he'll give you the silent treatment and fly away. Congratulations, you've defeated the game! Watch the credits and when you re-start the game, you'll find yourself in front of the Pokémon Center near Shirogane Mountain. Pokémon List ------------ 1. Serebi (GameShark) Frequently Asked Questions -------------------------- Q: How do I get the two new Eevee evoltuions, Eefi and Blackie? A: There have been rumors on the internet that you need two new stones to evolve it, but that has been proved false. Eefi: Leave Eevee in your team Bring it to the Happiness Center Only train it during the day Blackie: Leave Eevee in your team Bring it to the Happiness Center Only train it during the night Q: Why hasn't my Togepi evolved yet? A: It's probably because you haven't used it in battles so it can gain levels, and left it in your team. If you've done all that and it still hasn't evolved, try making it happy in the "Happiness Center" located in the underground area in Kogane City. You have to pay 300 yen for each Pokémon. Q: How do I get Kireihana, Kimawari, Hassamu, Hagane-Ru, Yadoking, Nyorotono, and Porygon 2? A: Each evolve from one of the orignal 150 Pokémon, except Kimawari. Kireihana - Evolve Gloom using the Solar Stone. Kimawari - Evolve Himanattsu using the Solar Stone. Hassamu - Evolve Scyther equipped with the Metal Coat and traded. Hagane-Ru - Evolve Onix equipped with the Metal Coat and traded. Yadoking - Evolve Slowpoke equipped with the King's Symbol and traded. Nyorotono - Evolve Poliwhirl equipped with the King's Symbol and traded. Porygon 2 - Evolve Porygon with the Upgrade and traded. Q: Where do I get the Solar Stone, Metal Coat, King's Symbol, and Upgrade? A: Q: Where's the Fly HM? A: Talk to a lady in Tanba City, she'll give it to you. Q: Where are the three Legendary Dogs? A: Raikou, Entei, and Suikun are anywhere. After you've set them free from the tower in Enju City, they scampered off. Meaning, you can't find them in just one place. They are usually in the tall grass though. Q: Where are the Evolution Stones? A: Fire Stone - Show the guy in Bill's former house a Vulpix. Leaf Stone - Show the guy in Bill's former house an Oddish. Moon Stone - Route 27 Solar Stone - Place first in the Bug Catching Contest. Thunder Stone - Show the guy in Bill's former house a Pichu. Water Stone - Show the guy in Bill's former house a Staryu. (The guy only wants to see these Pokémon on certain days. I'm not sure what days they are.) Q: Is there a way to travel faster from the new world to the old world, or vice-versa? A: Yes, there is a way. In Vermilion City, go into the Pokémon Fan Club's house and talk to the man at the top of the room. After that, talk to the fat man and he'll give you a Clefairy Doll. Take this doll to the girl in Saffron City like likes to mimic. She'll take the doll and give you a ticket so that you can go on the motorcar, making it faster for you to travel. The motorcar station in the old world is located northwest in Saffron City. The motorcar station in the new world is located in Kogane City, near the Radio Tower. Q: How do I breed Pokémon and where? A: Breeding is done with a male and female Pokémon. Go to the house south of Kogane City. Inside there should be an old man and woman. Give a male Pokémon the old man, and a female Pokémoon to the old woman. Leave them there for a while and when you come back, there should be an egg. Usually some odd combinations may not work. For example, Venomoth and Mewtwo. Don't bother getting something really fantastic, because you won't. The only Pokémon that I know that work well are Pikachu, Clefairy, Jigglypuff, Chansey, Magmar, and Electabuzz. That's a male and female by the way. Two Pikachus, male and female, I don't mean breed Clefairy and Magmar... Try those out, because I know they may work. Mankey or Primeape might work as well, but I'm not sure. Q: My Pokémon doesn't evolve at Level so-and-so. Your FAQ/Walkthrough says it evolves at Level so-and-so, but my Pokémon didn't evolve at that level! A: Sometimes there are glitches in the game, or other times, it's because you used the Daycare Center. The Daycare Center doesn't evolve your Pokémon like the television show did. They probably stop the evolution when the level occurs. If this is not the case, then there may be something wrong with your game. Often Togepi doesn't evolve at the Level stated in this FAQ/Walkthrough for some odd reason. Q: What's the difference between the colored Pokémon (e.g. Red Gyarados) and the original ones? A: The colored Pokémon have much better stats the the originals. Q: Is there anything I can borrow from this FAQ/Walkthrough? A: The Pokémon List is the only thing you can borrow for yourself, nothing else. Q: When is the game being translated into English, and will your FAQ/Walkthrough change when it does? A: The American version of Pokémon Gold/Silver will come out in September or October 2000. Knowing Nintendo, this date may not be true, since they usually push the release date back. And yes, I will change this FAQ/Walkthrough when the American version comes out. It'll just be the minor changes such as the American names of Pokémon, people, and towns. Q: When will there be more questions answered? A: Either when I'm bugged with the same thing, or when I feel it should be posted. More to come anyway.
