O=========================================================================O / 01. INTRODUCTION - [0100] - \ O=============================================================================O BostonFuse51's Introduction: ---------------------------- Welcome all to the Pokemon Gold/Silver FAQ/Walkthrough written by Ashwin Suresh and yours truly. This has been a wild project after having a co-author have to leave the project while the guide was almost half-way done due to reasons outside of Gamefaqs. I was lucky enough to find Armads while creating a co-author request topic shortly after my co-author had left his half incomplete. Armads jumped at the chance, and has really risen to the occasion by working hard to get this guide as good as he can for all of you readers. I hope that you find this guide helpful, and if you have any questions don't hesitate to drop either of us an e-mail. Thanks, and enjoy. Armads' Introduction: --------------------- Welcome all, to the guide written by BF51 and yours truly. It was a little bizarre to be recruited after this project had come along a fair way, but I took the opportunity because I was looking to write a guide on one of the Pokemon games without investing too much time. This project is also interesting for me personally because it is the first time I am working with a co-author to write a guide. Chris is a great co-author who has helped me settle into the idea of working with someone else on a project with his dedication and friendliness. Two is always better than one, so I hope this guide proves to be invaluable to all readers. O=========================================================================O / 02. FAQ - [0200] - \ O=============================================================================O In this section, both of us will if necessary place questions that we are asked in this particular section, Frequently Asked Questions. As the title suggests, it is more than likely that frequently asked questions will be included here. Besides that, we may add very useful questions if we think that they are worthy enough. I suggest that you e-mail either of us. Our e-mails are: BostonFuse51: bbeltchris92@netscape.net Armads: mindreader.ivan@gmail.com If you use an IM Program, talk to BF51 because I am almost never online (and also usually never respond to people I don't know). Expect a reply to any e-mails sent within 1-2 days. BF51 checks his e-mail several times a day and I check at least once a day. Navigation - [0320] - +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ As you progress on your journey towards being a pokemon master, there are some aspects of navigation that become familiar and similar from place to place. On your journey, like in any RPG there are few select landmarks you must be accustomed to seeing in any town you head to. Pokemon Center -------------- Regardless of any place you head to, this is the ideal landmark you want to see. Pokemon Centers allow trainers to completely heal their pokemon to full health and normal status, even if they have fainted. Talk to Nurse Joy behind the counter to be able to heal your pokemon. To the far right corner of the Center is a PC that you can log on to. Here you can do various tasks; most notably, accessing various PCs to withdraw/deposit items, pokemon and also obtaining a Pokedex Rating from Oak. Going upstairs reveals a room where there are three separate sections. From the left, the functions of these individual counters are: - Standard trading system with Gold/Silver/Crystal in order to complete your Pokedex with all 251 pokemon. - Competitive battling with Gold/Silver/Crystal to test your wits against your own friends. There is a chart next to this section that contains a record of your battles (win/loss record). - Time Capsule that allows you to trade pokemon with the past (Red/Blue/Yellow) but you cannot trade new pokemon or pokemon with new moves. Pokemon Mart ------------ This is your convenience store for pokemon, located in most towns. The largest shopping centres are located in Goldenrod and Celadon. Most of the items sold are non-essential but useful items, so most of the time there is no point in purchasing items in here unless you are struggling or we tell you to purchase a specific item. As you progress further on your journey, the quality of the items sold improves, as well as the price. If you have any useless items, you can sell them to Pokemon Marts at 50% of the market price. Selling is very useful. Nuggets are ideal for selling, but there are plenty of other uses for selling besides making money. If you are finding your Inventory cluttered up, sell, sell, sell! As a general rule of thumb, sell anything and everything besides unique items and on the rare occasion, conserve those Potions. Gyms ---- Gyms are essential steps in advancing through your quest. Think of them as check points. In each Gym, you will fight a few trainers and at the end reach a Gym Leader (like a boss). Defeat the Gym Leader for a Badge and a TM. The Badge will grant you more power as a trainer to command pokemon of higher levels and abilities to use HMs outside of battle. A TM is a special move that can only be taught once to a pokemon of your choice (see that section for more details). Each Gym specialises in a different type of pokemon, so you must train many types to become a good trainer. Focus on the weakness of the Gym and capitalise. Apart from the landmarks described above, take the time to learn everything about a town. Explore every inch of town, visit every house, talk to every person and do all you can to get the most of of Pokemon Silver. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ c. Gotta catch 'em all! - [0330] - +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Anyone who has even remotely heard of pokemon probably has heard of the slogan 'Gotta catch 'em all!'. The main aim of Pokemon, above all is to catch every single pokemon possible. There were "over 150" in the original games, there are 251 in the Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal series. Pokemon can be found in various places, sometimes in water, grassy plains or even in caves. They vary not only in location, but also at the times which they appear at. Some pokemon are rarer than others, depending on location and the time of day. Some pokemon are unique, so you must make an effort to catch different pokemon as soon as you see them! Pokemon are caught with Poke Balls. There are various types of Poke Balls, some are better than others. The best type is the Master Ball, which has a 100% guaranteed success rate. Unfortunately, there are only two of these available in the game. There are numerous Balls designed to catch pokemon of different weights, speeds, and all sorts of other things. Generally, the higher level the pokemon is, the more difficult it is to catch. There is always a chance of catching a pokemon randomly with a random Ball, so always attempt to catch a pokemon, at the very least. To increase the chance of catching a pokemon, you must weaken it. Damage it with attacks and then if you like, also inflict a status ailment on it. This way, you can maximise your chance of catching strong and unique pokemon. Some pokemon try to escape from battle, so be aware of that. In battle, after encountering a wild pokemon randomly, weaken it with attacks and when its HP is red (indicating it is very low on HP), throw Poke Balls at it until it is confirmed as caught. Don't make the mistake of killing a pokemon if you want it, or trying to catch pokemon belonging to trainers (it won't work - you can't steal, unfortunately...). +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ d. Pokemon Stats - [0340] - +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ The statistics of a pokemon are vital for battle situations, particularly later on when you are worrying about them against your friends (competitive battling scenarios). This section should help you out to understand the five most basic and vital of all pokemon statistics. ATTACK: Determines how much physical damage your pokemon deals to the opponent. DEFENSE: Determines how resistant your pokemon are to the opponents' physical attacks. SP. ATTACK: Determines how much special damage your pokemon deals to the opponent. SP. DEFENSE: Determines how resistant your pokemon are to the opponents' special attacks. SPEED: Determines who attacks first in battle. Physical attacks usually encompass most contact attacks. Using your common sense, you can figure out normal attacks, for example, are physical. Special attacks CAN BE CONTACT ATTACKS, so don't be fooled. Special attacks include most of the elements and are generally non-contact attacks. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ e. Battle! - [0350] - +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Like in most RPGs, you must engage in battle from time to time. The basic concept has not changed for eons, so this shouldn't be too difficult to grasp as a whole. Fight: When you are interested in damaging the opponent, select this option. You can then choose from your moveset that contains four moves. After that, the battle unfolds in a turn-based system. The fastest pokemon usually goes first, unless a pokemon uses an unusually fast attack. PKMN: If you are concerned about your pokemon, select this option to be able to view your current party. You can also switch pokemon for various reasons, whether it be you are about to lose or you want an advantage over your opponent. Be careful, because in switching pokemon you are giving up a turn to your opponent. Pack: This option is used to view your Inventory and select various items to heal your pokemon, temporarily enhance your pokemon or throw Poke Balls. Some items cannot be used in battles. Run: If you are not interested in the pokemon, you can choose to escape from it. You may not be able to escape from all pokemon, and you can never escape from pokemon trainers. Losing a battle will result in losing half your cash and being transported outside the nearest Pokemon Center. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ f. Status Ailments - [0360] - +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Sometimes, pokemon can be impacted adversely by certain attacks. Usually, their overall condition, or status, is considered normal. Status ailments can alter this and have sometimes drastic and disastrous consequences. BIND: A pokemon in-battle affected will not be able to move until the bind is released. BURN: A pokemon in-battle affected will lose a small fraction of HP every turn after attacking. Burns are only consequential in battle. CONFUSION: A pokemon in-battle affected will sometimes attack itself randomly. A pokemon is automatically cured of confusion by switching it out, or by exiting the battle. There is a rumour that mashing A reduces the chance of a pokemon attacking itself. FREEZE: A pokemon in-battle affected will not be able to attack until it is thawed (unfrozen). PARALYSIS: A pokemon in-battle affected will not be able to attack. POISON: A pokemon affected will lose a small fraction of HP every turn or every step of movement outside of battle. This is the most potent of all status ailments. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ g. Elemental Chart - [0370] - +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ All pokemon are aligned to certain types. All types are weak and strong to certain other types. This Elemental Chart should assist in helping players understand the strengths and weaknesses of types and developing a sound knowledge of type advantages. As can be seen, some types are clearly superior to others, so choose wisely. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ h. Pokemon Gear - [0380] - +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ A new feature introduced in the Johto Generation of Pokemon games is the PokeGear that assists in a variety of functions. Date/Time --------- The game has its own clock that keeps track of the day of the week and time. The reason for this is that the game employs a day-night system, where some pokemon only appear at certain times of the day. The clock also adjusts to Daylight Savings, in case you were wondering. The game clock assumes that day is an exact period of 12 hours from 6AM to 6PM, and vice versa for night. World Map --------- In order to view the entire land of Johto (and eventually Kanto) you must first obtain Map Cards for the respective locations. This feature allows you to see where you are, and the routes, landmarks and towns that you are heading towards as well as ones that you have passed. The World Map is also useful for keeping track of certain pokemon. To obtain the Johto Map Card, talk to the old man at the entrance of Cherrygrove City. Cell Phone ---------- The Cell Phone is yet another interesting new feature. Certain people will exchange phone numbers with you (important figures, some trainers etc.) and from time to time, they will contact you with random news, or to challenge you to a pokemon battle. Some trainers are very useful for your journey, while others are somewhat... useless. Radio ----- The radio, like the World Map, requires its own Card that you must acquire in both Johto and Kanto. With it you can tune into certain radio stations that will give you handy tips (usually a little random) or provide a catchy beat to play the game to. The radio stations are usually unnecessary, but on the rare occasion it is required to advance through the game. The Johto Radio Card is available at the Goldenrod Radio Tower. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ i. Gold/Silver Differences - [0390] - +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ There aren't all that many differences between Pokemon Gold and Silver. The main difference is that the pokemon caught in each version are different, so some of the pokemon are version-exclusive. The version-exclusive pokemon are: O-----------O-------------O---------------O | GOLD ONLY | SILVER ONLY | NOT IN EITHER | O-----------O-------------O---------------O | Sandshrew | Ekans | Bulbasaur | | Sandslash | Arbok | Ivysaur | | Growlithe | Vulpix | Venusaur | | Arcanine | Ninetales | Charmander | | Mankey | Meowth | Charmeleon | | Primeape | Persian | Charizard | | Spinarak | Ledyba | Squirtle | | Ariados | Ledian | Wartortle | | Gligar | Delibird | Blastoise | | Teddiursa | Skarmory | Omanyte | | Ursaring | Phanpy | Omastar | | Mantine | Donphan | Kabuto | | Ho-oh | Lugia | Kabutops | | --------- | ----------- | Articuno | | --------- | ----------- | Zapdos | | --------- | ----------- | Moltres | | --------- | ----------- | Mewtwo | | --------- | ----------- | Mew | | --------- | ----------- | Celebi | O-----------O-------------O---------------O O=========================================================================O / 04. JOHTO WALKTHROUGH - [0400] - \ O=============================================================================O Here it is guys, the meat and gravey of the guide...the walkthrough! In this both Armads and I will take you through every area of the game. We'll put in every trainer, city, and route. We'll give you hints, and also some strategies which we are sure will help you on the road to victory. Once you're ready, load up your Gameboy SP/Advanced/Color and begin. Scroll through all of the ads, and you will soon see an option screen. On it, select "new game." Once you select the option, a voice somewhere will say "what time is it, can you check the time for me?" Once you gain control, select whatever time you want for the game. Once you finish setting the time, you will be introduced to Professor Oak. He'll explain what pokemon are, and also what they are used for. He will also let you know that he studies pokemon for a living. After this, he will ask you what your name is. You can make up a random name, or use your name in real life. Once you choose your name, Oak will explain how you're just getting started in the pokemon world, and you will face tough times and challenges. He will big you good-bye on the note that he will see you later. Once you regain control, you will be in your room. Explore a bit, and then when you are ready, head downstairs in the northeast corner. Once out here, your mom will come up to you. She will say that Professor Elm is looking for you. After this, she will give you your pokemon gear fresh from the repair shop. Once you obtain your pokemon gear, you will be asked to set the date in your game. Pick one of them, and then say if it is daylight savings time or not. Then she will ask you if you know how to use the phone. She will explain how you can save nmbers from important people and such using the phone icon in pokegear. After this, you're free to leave. Exit the front door and out into... +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 04.01. New Bark Town - [0401] - +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Once out here, take your time and explore your hometown city. Once you are finished, head to the north of the city, and enter the biggest building there... Professor Elm's lab. Once inside, walk up the carpet to the other end of the lab where he will be waiting for you. Up here, Elm will talk about his friend Mr. Pokemon. He will tell you that he just received an e-mail from him, about new pokemon research. Elm will say that this will be the beginning of your pokemon journey, and instruct you to pick one of the three poke balls layed out beside him. Well, it's time to pick the first member of your team. Here are the breakdowns for each starter. O------------O----------O------O | CYNDAQUIL: | Beginner | Fire | O------------O----------O------O----------------------------------------------O | Cyndaquil is built as a specialist; excelling at speed and special attack, | | but somewhat frail. Fire types are rare, and a good one like Cyndaquil is | | not easy to find. Cyndaquil is also strong against the majority of Gyms, | | so it isn't difficult to see why the fiery porcupine is a popular choice. | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O-----------O--------------O-------O | TOTODILE: | Intermediate | Water | O-----------O--------------O-------O------------------------------------------O | Totodile is probably the closest starter to being a tank. Boasting strong | | physical strength and defences, but somewhat lacking in special stats, the | | crocodile is suited to those who are looking for a fast and furious approach| | to the game. | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O------------O--------O-------O | CHIKORITA: | Expert | Grass | O------------O--------O-------O-----------------------------------------------O | Chikorita is a special grass type, because it boasts a wide variety of | | some pretty unique attacks, such as Reflect and Synthesis, and as a grass | | type, powerful attacks are learnt very quickly, such as Razor Leaf. Despite | | this, Chikorita is weak to many of the initial stages of the game, so only | | experienced players should undertake the challenge of raising it. | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O--------------------------O--------------------------------------------------O | OVERALL RECOMMENDATIONS: | OTHER NOTES: | O--------------------------O--------------------------------------------------O | Author: | Pick: | Well, we both pick completely different pokemon, | O--------------O-----------O for completely different reasons, I guess. BF51, | | BostonFuse51 | Chikorita | for instance, might like Chikorita for the unique| | Armads | Cyndaquil | nature of its attacks, and the difficulty of the | | | | challenge. Obviously, my reasons are a little | | | | different from his, but the point is to go with | | | | whichever choice YOU feel is the best for YOU. | O--------------O-----------O--------------------------------------------------O Once you pick your starting pokemon for your adventure, Elm will send you on your adventure to Mr. Pokemon over in Cherrygrove City, and alson, once you have all of your goodies, Elm will give you his phone number so that you can contact him whenever needed. Once you stop talking with him, walk down and out of the lab, and you will be stopped by Elm's assistant. He will give you a potion so that you won't get into to much trouble. Once he does, walk out of the lab and back out to New Bark Town. Once out here, go back to your house, walk to the left and into the grass taking your first step on your journey. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 04.02. Visiting Cherrygrove/Route 30 - [0402] - +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ As soon as you're off heading west, move down south, and enter the grass. This is one of many areas of grass in the game. In them you can find, fight, catch, or run from them. Right now you have no poke balls so you cant catch them, but you can fight the wild pokemon and raise your pokemon's level. In this area, you will find the pokemon Pidgey, Rattata, and Sentret. At night, you will find Rattata, and Hoothoot. Continue heading southeast until you exit this part of the route. Continue on and you will see a patch of white in the shape of an "L." Go in through the opening, and head northeast. Avoid the first patch of grass, and continue going up. Enter one patch, and go northeast where you will find a potion. From here, after you get the potion, go west and go across the patches of grass along the way running into wild pokemon. Keep heading against a long stretch with no grass, and then head southwest. If you want, go in through the opening and go up to the tree where there is a berry in. Once you finish, exit and continue fighting wild pokemon. Once you reach between the levels 8-10, whichever you want, head right into Cherrygrove City. However, if you're running low on health, or potions, you can go into the Cherrygrove City Poke Center and heal your pokemon to full health. After this, go back and continue fighting. Once you're up to a high enough level, enter the city and talk to the old man hanging out in front of the trees. When you talk to him, he will give you a long tour and he'll show you the mart, the poke center, Route 30, the sea, and his house. At the end of the free tour, he will give you a Town Map for free! Once you get your free map, go to the poke center, heal, and then enter route 30 going north of Cherrygrove city and to Mr. Pokemon. On this route, you can find the pokemon Ledyba, Spinarak, Caterpie, Weedle, and Zubat at night. Once you enter, go up through the route and enter the first patch of grass. As soon as you do, exit and head northwest. Grab the berry from the tree outside the small house, and enter the house, talk to the man, and get another berry. One you've gotten both, head out, and continue on your way. Once you pick up your berries, continue on heading north. Go up the tiny patch of grass on the right, and through the larger one above it. Once you break through it, you will finally see Mr. Pokemon's house. Once you do, walk right in and speak with him. As soon as you walk in, he will walk right up to you and start talking. Shortly after, Mr. Pokemon will give you a "mystery egg." He will talk about getting the egg from the daycare couple. He emailed Elm, and that's why you'rethere now. After this, Oak will step up, and talk about how and why Elm gave you the pokemon. Also he will help you out a bit and give you a pokedex. After this, Oak will leave and then Mr. Pokemon will heal your pokemon. After this, you are free to leave. Once you step out, you will have begun another step on your journey. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 04.03. There & Back Again - [0403] - +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Once you are free to go, step out, and Elm will call you. Elm will come over the line saying everything is horrible, it's all going wrong, etc. Once the phone call ends, go south of route 31. Keep fighting all of the wild pokemon you meet on your way, and then retrace your steps back to Cherrygrove City. Once here, walk to the east of the city where you will run into your rival. Also note that your rival picks the starter who is super effective to yours. So if you picked: Water he picks Grass Grass he picks Fire Fire he picks Water Trainer "???" (Payoff: $60) Pokemon (Level) Type Weakness(es) EXP ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Starter - Lv. 5, Grass/Water/Fire Varies 69 Once you've beaten him, continue on and retrace your steps all the way back to New Bark Town. Once you enter New Bark Town, go to Professor Elm's lab to the left of your house, and in the north of the city. Walk on the carpet to the back of the room where you will see Elm waiting for you. When you're up there, Elm will be talking with an officer. He will tell you the story about how someone stole one of Elm's pokemon (starters.) Apparently, it was a yound male with long, red hair. You will explain that you battled him and then be asked to give his name. For this, you can fill in whichever name you want your "rival" to be, or give the name of your rival in real life. After you give the officer his name, he will walk off planning on investigating more. Once the officer storms off, you're free to talk with Elm. He'll ask you what the big pokemon discovery was, and then you hand over the mystery egg. He'll be taken aback, and say this is a tremendous pokemon discovery. Also he will be amazed at Oak giving you a pokedex. Elm seems to decide that you should take the chance and become a pokemon master, and sends you on the way to become a champion. But before you go, he will ask you to talk to your mom. Once the conversation is over, walk out of the lab. Before you do, Elm's assisatant will corner you again and give you 5 poke balls for catching wild pokemon. Once that encounter is finished, walk out, head right, and enter your house. In here, mom will now become your bank. If you let her take in money, some of the money you win in battles will be taken and kept with her. Also what is good about this is that she can get you some really good items along the way. Whatever decision you make, be sure of it. Once that's over, walk out of the house and take some of your first steps as a pokemon trainer. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 04.04. On the Road to Violet City - [0404] - +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ In these first steps, head west and make your way back to Cherrygrove City. Shortly after you begin going, a man will come up to you. He will offer to show you how to catch pokemon if you let him. So do it, and I'll give a breakdown of the lesson. In the lesson, the man will run into a wild Rattata. He will show you how to select poke balls, and also select the type of ball you want. He will catch it right off the back, but you won't always be this lucky. Most of the time, you have to weaken your opponent and then go for the catch. After the lesson, continue on the old route back to Cherrygrove City. On the way, train up your starter a few more levels, and give catching a pokemon a chance. Once you enter Cherrygrove, go to the poke center and heal your pokemon. Once you heal, go up the opening, and onto route 30. From here, continue like you are going to Mr. Pokemon's. Only this time, when you see the back of the man who gave you they berry's house, go right and then go up through the opening. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 04.05. Youngster Joey (Payoff: $64) Pokemon (Level) Type Weakness(es) EXP ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rattata - Lv. 4 Normal Fighting 48 Once you take down Joey, go in through the opening above you, and on your first step through you will find... Bug Catcher Don (Payoff: $48) Pokemon (Level) Type Weakness(es) EXP ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Caterpie - Lv. 3 Bug Fire, Flying, Rock 33 Caterpie - Lv. 3 Bug Fire, Flying, Rock 33 One you beat Don, go through the opening all the way in the northeast corner. Continue north and east until you see a patch of grass. Go through it, and in the spot north of the patch, there will be an antidote. From here, go southeast, and go through the opening. From here, turn right and pick up the poke ball. From here, head left where you will find... Bug Catcher Wade (Payoff: $32) Pokemon (Level) Type Weakness(es) EXP ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Caterpie - Lv. 2 Bug Fire, Flying, Rock 22 Caterpie - Lv. 2 Bug Fire, Flying, Rock 22 Weedle - Lv. 3 Bug Fire, Flying, Rock 33 Caterpie - Lv. 2 Bug Fire, Flying, Rock 22 Once you take this guy out, go left, go to the middle of the bigger patch, and then go in through the small opening. From here, go straight, and then take a left. In the small building, out through, continue left, and out. May I be the first to say... +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 04.06. Welcome to Violet City - [0406] - +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Once you walk the doors into Violet City, go staright to the poke Center. In here, walk up to Nurse Joy, and get all of your pokemon healed all the way. Once you finish in here, walk out of the poke center. Once you're out of the center and back out onto Violet, go left, and the go to the north through the opening. Going north, take a slight left, and go past the sign. Keep on heading forward, and go into the large, tall building in the north of the city. This building is surrounded by plants on the left, right and back. Enter the building through the opening in the front of the building. Once you do, you will have enter Sprout Tower. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 04.07. Sprout Tower - [0407] - +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Once you enter Sprout Tower, you can talk to the men and women on the first floor. There aren't any trainers on this floor, but you can get some useful info on Sprout Tower, and stuff like that. Once you're done, go up to the next floor in the northwest corner. Once the second floor, take a few steps up, and then about 10 to the right. Next to the swaying walls to the right, you will find... Sage Nico (Payoff: $96) Pokemon (Level) Type Weakness(es) EXP ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bellsprout - Lv. 3 Grass Bug, Fire, Flying, Ice, Poison 54 Bellsprout - Lv. 3 Grass Bug, Fire, Flying, Ice, Poison 54 Bellsprout - Lv. 3 Grass Bug, Fire, Flying, Ice, Poison 54 Once you nail Nico, go down the stairs to the right. On the next floor, head south of the stairs, where you will find a Paralyz Heal. Once you pick up the item, go north and then take a left. Continue down the hall, where you will eventually run into... Once you pick up the item, head south. Stay to the right, and eventually you will run into... The first three trainers all have the same pokemon, and payoff 96 bucks. Once you beat Edmond, you can go back to the poke center and heal if you need to. Not everyone can have the same pokemon. Once you're done with everything, take a right and go up the stairs. On this new floor, head left and pick up a potion. After you get it, head up where you will find... In it, your rival will be screaming at the final Sage because the sage said he needs to treat his pokemon better. Once he does, he will storm over too you and claim that the elder is weak, and that he doesn't know how to take care of his pokemon. Shortly after, he will use an escape rope and leave the building. Once he does, go to the northeast corner, and pick up an escape rope. After you do, head south, take a left, and look north where you will find... Once you have beaten Sprout Tower, you can either use your new escape rope, or just retrace your steps all the way back to the opening gate. Once you are out, head to the poke center and heal all of your pokemon. Once you have finished, it's time to fight Falkner. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 04.08. Facedown with Falkner - [0408] - +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Once you have fully healed all of your pokemon, take a left, go north and then enter the opening. Once you do, continue north a few steps, and then take a left where you will see the Violet City gym. Once you see it, put the pokemon who you want to fight the earlier trainers. Once they are all healed, return to the gym, wnd your way north, and it is time to fight Falkner. ================================== Gym Leader Falkner (Payoff: $900) ================================== Gym Leader Falkner's status ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gym Leader Falkner's Favorite type of Pokemon - Flying Gym Leader Gym Leader Falkner's Least Favorite type of Pokemon - Electric Falkner's Likes - Flying pokemon, Flying Moves, Birds, and his gym. Falkner's Dislikes - Rock Pokemon, Electric Pokemon, Ice Pokemon, Fighting Pokemon. Strategy - Since there hasn't been any chance to get any electric pokemon yet, so your best chance is rock by far. It has protection from both Flying, and Normal attacks, and if you have rock throw (Geodude learns it at 11.) Using him will wipe out Falkner's flying pokemon. But you still need to look out for Pidgeotto's attacks. They do damage, AND some of them lower accuracy. The penalties add up qiuckly here. Swap in a strong pokemon who can finish off this flyer quickly (your starter most likely), but watch out for gust. Rewards from Gym Leader Falkner - A ton of cash (900 dollars.) Your first badge ever, a Zephyr Badge, raised attack to all of your pokemon, and TM 31. This move is good against rock, and lowers your opponent's accuracy. Flyers usually have this move. Pokemon - Gym leader Falkner has two pokemon. (See Below) Gym Leader Falkner (Payoff: $900) Pokemon (Level) Type Weakness(es) EXP ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pidgey - Lv. 7 Flying/Normal Electric, Ice, Rock 82 Pidgeotto - Lv. 9 Flying/Normal Electric, Ice, Rock 217 0--------------------------------------------------O | OTHER NOTES: | O--------------------------------------------------O Falkner will be opening with his Pidgey so have a strong rock pokemon or any other type which is super effective against flying pokemon. Pidgey isn't that hard to take down, so try and use the weaker pokemon in your party. This way, you can save your heavier pokemon for later on in the battle against Pidgeotto. Another thing that can really be annoying about the Pidgey is his move Sand Attack, so try not to use pokemon who have already had their accuracy lowered by the move. Pidgeotto is a different story. He (or she) is the heart of the team and the only real threat to you. Use your higher level pokemon, and try to use every manner possible to hand him a loss. Once you finish with Falkner, may I bet the first to say congrats on your first badge. Once you beat him, walk out of the gym, and Elm will call you and tell you to go to the poke center. Once the phone call is ended, walk over to the poke center. Here, heal your pokemon all the way back to full health. After this, talk to Elm's assistant. He will talk about how they want you to experiment with you and the egg. He will give you the egg to walk around with, and eventually hatch. Once it does, Elm would like you to come back to the lab, and give him some info. Eventually, he will walk away, and you will have the egg. Don't try and hatch it right now, it takes time, and also it will waist your time and make you bored with the game. Once you finish at the center, walk northwest, and then head south through the opening. You have just taken another step on your long pokemon journey. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 04.09. Going south to Route 32 - [0409] - +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Once you take a few steps south, head right and continue going down. After a few minutes, you will run into a man. When you do, he will give you a Miracle Seed just for beating Falkner! When equipped, this nifty item powers up your pokemon's grass techniques. Come back to this guy once you learn HM 01 (cut). When you do, head southwest, and then cut down the tree. Doing this will open up into a new area. When you get into the new area, talk to the man in here. He will give you TM 05 which is roar. Once you finish everything up here, continue southwest, and then head south another time. Here, you will find...
