Pocket Puyo Puyo~n for Gameboy Color By: Erikku E-Mail: Erikku@PuyoPuyo.zzn.com GameFAQs ID: HM64Schezo -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Table of Contents [1] Note from Erikku [2] Story [3] Menus [4] Practice Mode [5] Story Mode [6] Hard Mode [7] Endless Mode [9] Vs. COM Mode [10] Multiplayer COMING SOON [11] Options Menu Translation [12] Magic Power List [13] Photo Album List -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [1] Note from Erikku Wow, this game is just excellent! The best puzzler to hit the Gameboy Color! Do you remember Kirby's Avalanche or Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine? Well, Pocket Puyo Puyo~n is that, only while Kirby's Avlanche and Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine are the first installment of the Puyo Puyo series, Puyo Puyo~n is the fourth. You won't find this game anywhere in the US. Importing it is the only way! This is the first FAQ I've written so far. I hope it turns out well! I know it doesn't look so good right now, but it will eventully become better. I'm not too good at reading Japanese, I guess you could even say that I can't even read a word of it, but I understand what is going on, and I can make this game pretty much understandable too. Well, wish me luck on this FAQ! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [2] Story One fine day, Arle Nadja and her pet named Kaa-Kun decide to take a visit to the Puyo Puyo Circus! They watched all of the wonderful performances done by the crazy opponents that they once battled in Puyo Puyo matches. For the final act, the Ring Master does a dissapearing act! He chooses Kaa-Kun from the crowd, and leads him into the box. Hocus-Pocus, Alakazam, PRESTO! Kaa-Kun is gone! It was an amazing trick! Everyone loved it, but wasn't Kaa-Kun supposed to re-appear? The Ring Master is gone, and Arle bets that he was the one who did it, so she will now have to battle her way to victory once again, this time to find her beloved Kaa-Kun! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [3] Menus Here are the menus in the game. They are going in order as you move your selection to the RIGHT. 1. Start Game a. Story Mode b. Hard Mode c. Vs. COM Mode d. Endless Mode e. Practice Mode 2. 2-Player Vs. a. UNKNOWN b. UNKNOWN c. Pocket Puyo Puyo Tsu Battle d. Pocket Puyo Puyo Sun Battle 3. Game Configuration a. Options Menu b. Collected Spell List + Personal Information c. UNKNOWN d. Photo Album 4. UNKNOWN I will be sure to update the sections that I am not sure of yet. Menu #4 is blocked off from the start, I have no idea what might be in there! Only time will tell! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [4] Practice Mode This mode is very simple. You just have to beat three characters, Skeleton-T, Panotty, and Kiki Mora. This mode is just here for beginners. Yet even if you aren't a beginner, you should go through this mode. You get a picture added to your album if you do so! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [5] Story Mode Okay now, it is up to you to help Arle out by defeating opponents in Puyo Puyo matches! When you beat Pierrot, you will be lead to a character selection screen with three characters. You can choose any of the three, and you don't even have to beat all three to go to the next round, you can just skip right to the main enemy and beat him/her to go on. Another note, whenever you beat any of the enemies, you gain their magic power, so it is probably best to defeat EVERY enemy when you play the first time around. * This star will simply mean that the character is the final opponent to beat for the level. Like I said, you can skip right to the final opponent of the level, beat him/her, and go on to the next level. Level 1- Enemy 1 * Pierrot Spell- None Difficulty- Easy Level 2- Enemy 1 Skeleton- T Power- An ability to cause you NOT to rotate your pair of Puyos Difficulty- Very Easy Enemy 2 Panotty Power- An ability that lets your pair of Puyos drop very slowly. This will wear off after you drop two pairs. Difficulty- Easy Enemy 3 * Kiki Mora Power- This cleans all Ojyama Puyos off Kiki's side, and it dumps a bunch of colored Puyos on your side. Difficulty- Normal Level 3- Enemy 1 Archan Power- A random row on Archan's side will be selected, and up to three rows will be removed. Difficulty- Easy Enemy 2 Nohoho Power- A random row on Nohoho's side will be selected, only that row will be removed. Difficulty- Slightly Hard Enemy 3 * Draco Centauros Power- The first three rows on Draco's side will be removed with red Puyos. Difficulty- Normal Level 4- Enemy 1 Suketoudara Power- The last four rows of your field will be turned into stone. You cannot remove them, but they will eventully vanish. Difficulty- Slightly Hard Enemy 2 Harpy Power- Two un-removeable blocks will randomly appear on your screen. To remove them, you need to connect 6 Puyos. Difficulty- Slightly Hard Enemy 3 * Seriri Chan Power- UNKNOWN Difficulty- Slightly Hard Level 5- Enemy 1 Witch Power- The first three rows on Witch's side will be revomed with Yellow Puyos. Difficulty- Hard Enemy 2 Dragoon Power- If there are any Ojyama Puyos on your side, they will be turned into Tokuton Puyos. Difficulty- Hard Enemy 3 * Chiko Power- If Chico has any Ojyamas on her side, they will turn into different colors. This can be deadly. Difficulty- Very Hard Level 6- Enemy 1 * Schezo Wegey Power- UNKNOWN Difficulty- Hard Level 7- Enemy 1 * Rulue Power- I might be mistaken here. I think 6 Jama Puyos drop down on you. You need to connect 6 Puyos to get rid of the Jamas. Difficulty- Hard Level 8- Enemy 1 * Satan-Sama Power- UNKNOWN Difficulty- Very Hard Level 9- Enemy 1 * Dopple Aruru Power- 6 Jama Puyos will fall down on you. The only way to get rid of them is to connect 6 Puyos. Difficulty- Very Very Hard When you have beaten Dopple Aruru, Arle transports all the way back to the circus where the Ring Master stand next to the box that Kaa-Kun dissapeared into. Abra-Kadabra, POOF! Kaa-Kun is back! Arle reaches out to Kaa-Kun to hug him, then the credits play. When the credits are done, Arle and Kaa-Kun walk off as the Ring Master is smashed under the box that Kaa-Kun was in. Oh, and congratulations! You have earned a picture for your album! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [7] Hard Mode This mode really is hard, but the things you get from here are DEFINATELY worth it! The 23 Characters in the game are randomly placed through the tournament. You can be any character you would like. (You'll have to set this in Options if you want to be a certain character) You'll fight yourself, and you'll fight a few other characters that aren't found in story mode. Here are the stats of the new characters as well as Arle Nadja: Arle Nadja Power- A Jamma shield is formed. It will block large attacks for about one turn, then it will dissapear. Difficulty- Slightly Hard Incubus Power- This will make Incubus' attacks different. Sun Puyos and Tokuton Puyos will fall on you instead of normal Ojyama Puyos. Difficulty- Normal Honey Bee Power- A column of Puyos are randomly selected. Up to three rows can be removed. Difficulty- Slightly Hard Lagnus Power- UNKNOWN Difficulty- Slightly Hard Mino Power- Big Puyo appears on Mino's side. It will be placed wherever Mino wants it to be placed, and it will clear two columns of Puyos. Difficulty- Hard Kaa-Kun Power- Kaa-Kun himself will drop onto his screen and walk around. The Puyos that he walks on will turn to one color, and once he gets to the bottom of the screen, all Puyos will vanish. Difficulty- Very Hard There are challange points set up in every battle. If you can clear those challange points and beat that character, you will get to keep that character's magic power! You will now be able to use that magic power ANY TIME you want in Story Mode, Practice Mode, Hard Mode, 2-Player Mode, or Vs. COM Mode! The challange points are random, they change every time you fight a character. The best tip I can give you here is to be VERY fast, and make well-sized chain reactions, a 6 or higher chain reaction would be nice. Now if you manage to beat Hard Mode, you'll be rewarded with a nice little picture of Arle and Kaa-Kun. Is that it? No way! You'll find out that you'll have two pictures added to your album as well! (I think one can be gotten half way through Hard Mode, and the other one must be gotten once you beat it completely). If you manage to collect every magic spell, you will be rewarded with ANOTHER picture for the album! It takes a lot of skill to will all of the powers, but the strength that you'll have when you get them will be very nice! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [8] Endless Mode This mode may not seem to be too special, but there is a lot to it! You can be any character you would like to be here (It needs to be set in Options mode if you want to be a certain character). It doesn't matter one bit, but if you happen to have a favorite character, this is the place to use it! When you enter this mode, you'll have three options. You can choose from Easy, Normal, or Hard modes. Easy mode starts you out on Level 1. If you have Helpers turned on, Big Puyo and Kaa-Kun will help you out now and then. Normal mode starts you out on Level 3. If you have Helpers turned on, only Kaa-Kun will help you out. I highly reccomend using this mode. I think Kaa-Kun is much more of a help than Big Puyo is. Hard mode starts you out on Level 5. If you have Helpers turned on, only Big Puyo will help you out. I really don't reccomend this. It is a nice score boost to start out with, but you probably won't last long. Also in this mode, you will have Ojyama Puyos constantly dropping down on you, yet your helper will help you out more often. You can switch the Ojyamas off in Options mode, but the helper won't come as often as they did before. I reccomend that you do switch the Ojyamas off. It is much easier. There is a way to get another picture in the album here! I'm not exactly sure how though. I've been up to level 99 (Highest it will go), and when I stopped, it gave me a new picture for the album. I'm sure that you have to get to a high level to earn it, but I don't think it will be right on level 99. Just try to aim for a high level. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------[9] Vs. COM Mode This is THE place to work on a enemy that you are having trouble with. You'll be able to learn their weak-points and so on. You can be any character, and if you've earned any magic from Hard Mode, you can use it here! You'll also be able to edit some of the things in this mode. You can select the number of different colored Puyos, and your opponent's magic as well. This mode will count up the number of times you've won or lost on an enemy, try to win as much as possible. Why? If you win more times than you've lost, you'll earn another picture for the gallery! There is nothing more I can say here. I've cleared pretty much everything. Now on to the next part. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [10] Multiplayer Here is where the fun begins! You can connect up to a friend's Pocket Puyo Puyo~n, Pocket Puyo Puyo Sun, or Pocket Puyo Puyo Tsu. Very nice idea on being able to connect to other versions! Remember one thing though, if there is a character in Pocket Puyo Puyo~n that isn't in Pocket Puyo Puyo Sun, the Puyo~n character will show up as someone else on Puyo Sun. Example, Panotty in Puyo~n will be seen as Cait Sith in Puyo Sun. When you are finished battling, you won't go away empty handed, no siree. You'll get ANOTHER picture for the album! Sheesh, you get these things everywhere huh? I know that you get one picture for fighting against a Puyo Sun cartridge, but I don't know if you'll get newer ones if you battle against a Puyo~n or Puyo Tsu cart. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [11] Options Menu Translation COMING SOON I'm sure that this part of the FAQ will be HUGE! There is a lot to do in Options menu, it just isn't a difficulty adjustment and sound test, no. It is much more. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [12] Magic Power List COMING SOON This will be slightly large. There are 28 magic powers in the game, and I'll have to test them all out to see what they do. Each power has a number, so if you are looking for a spell to use in a battle, just look up the number and input it into the game. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [13] Photo Album List I plan on explaining the Photo Album List in detail. I'll tell about what all it does, and what pictures you will get. I don't have all of the pictures yet, I just need three more. I will just list the pictures that I have gotten, and I'll once again tell how they are gotten if you don't want to bother with going through this entire FAQ looking for a certain picture. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well, this concludes my FAQ on Pocket Puyo Puyo~n for Gameboy Color! It will update as I: 1. Discover more pictures for the album 2. Learn more about the Magic Powers 3. Get the Options Menu translated 4. Get the Main Menus translated Now if you have any questions, comments, mistakes, or so on, please e-mail me and tell me. My e-mail address is Erikku@PuyoPuyo.zzn.com. Thank You!
