This one covers the GameBoy Color game known as Gobs of Games. Gobs of Games is a relatively older, not-often-seen game that is actually a compilation of many other smaller games, namely peg-based games, board games, and puzzles. ... That's all I have to say on this game. Enjoy. =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= Section Two: Version History **GOBGBC_2** =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= Final - First and likely only version of this FAQ completed. 9:19 PM 12/22/2012 =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= Section Three: Legalities **GOBGBC_3** =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= This FAQ may not be reproduced under any circumstances except for personal, private use. Your goal is to eliminate all of the pegs on the board, or as many as possible, in a way similar to checkers or Chinese checkers, whichever you prefer. Imagine you have a board like this, where O's are open holes, X's mark pegs, and # marks the one I want to focus on. O O O X X Take a look at the "#" peg. Much like in checkers, you can O O O X X X only move pegs diagonally (up-right, up-left, down-left, or X X X O X down-right). In peg-based games, you also cannot move a peg X O # X X O unless it can go over one peg to an empty space. For example, O X O O O the "#" peg cannot go up-right (your destination is occupied), X X O X O X down-right (no peg), or down-left (occupied destination). All that is available is up-left. When you jump over that peg, you will make it disappear. Of course, the above example shows a particular type of board in which you can only go diagonally - like in Tri-Peg - but there are those that let you instead move only vertically or horizontally, but with similar principles. ----------- Paper Games ----------- Hangman: ```````` In this classic game, you will be given a set of blanks, which represents either a word or phrase. Your goal is to select letters that may be in the hidden word to fill it in. Correct guesses will fill in the blanks; incorrect guesses count against you. The hangman game ends when you fill in every blank or have nine incorrect guesses. As a few hints: - E, R, S, T, L, and N are the most common letters. - Every word will have a vowel or two, so guess them until it seems like there is enough in the puzzle. Dot Block: `````````` This is a two-player game, played against either the computer or a human. In it, you will have a board of 49 dots arranged in a 7x7 pattern. You and your opponent will take turns drawing lines from one dot to an adjacent dot (cannot be diagonal). In doing so, you will gain points if your drawing of a line completes the outline of a square and you also get extra turns for making a square. Once the entire grid is filled in (36 total squares), whoever has more points will win. Triangle: ````````` This works similarly to Dot Block. However, you have 28 dots in the form of an equilateral triangle, still allotting up to 36 points. Snake: `````` In this game, you will begin with a 7x7 set of dots. You and your opponent will be drawing a line that you work together on. However, this line cannot ever cross itself. Your goal is to trap your opponent into being stuck with a move in which the line is forced to cross itself. Note that you can work from both ends of the line. Color Snakes: ````````````` In this game, you'll have a board dotted with green and blue dots. Player 1 uses the green, and Player 2 uses the blue. The general goal is to make a line - it doesn't have to be straight - from one side of the screen to the other, while trying to prevent your opponent from doing the same. You do not have to work off of just one line - you can make several to use, for example, to stop your opponent. Tic-Tac-Toe: ```````````` I highly doubt you've never played this, but, regardless... The goal is to get three X's or O's lined up in a row, column, or diagonally. That's about it. You will play on the same board as your opponent, and are able to use your symbols to stop your opponent as necessary ... which is why this game is kind of worthless, as it is almost always ends in a tie. ------- Puzzles ------- Scramble: ````````` These types of puzzles will all rely on the same general principle. You will receive a set of pieces for the given puzzle, minus one piece, which leaves a blank. You need to shift puzzle pieces to and from that blank space to make the puzzle look like it should, minus that one piece. Move It!: ````````` In this game, you simply are given boxes to move. Choose one by using Left or Right on the D-Pad, then press A. You then move it vertically or horizontally to the blue circles; press A if you need to stop moving. The only catch about this is that the movement of the box is restricted if an object is next to it. If the object is above or below, the box can only move left or right, and a similar concept for the reverse. You win once every box reaches a blue circle. ----------- Board Games ----------- All this mode consists of is checkers. You and your opponent each have a dozen pieces called checkers. They are on the same colored spaces, with four per row. The lighter ones are White; the darker, Black. This takes place on your general 8x8 chessboard. Traditionally, Black goes first, with turns alternating afterwards. You can only move forward at the start like this: O O @ @ O = space X = piece you want to move O O X O @ = potential destination In this situation, your piece can only move to those two spaces. Now, if an enemy piece occupies that space, and a space is beyond it, you can jump over the piece, remove it from the game, and go into the space past it. (You can jump again from here, resulting in double/triple/quadruple-jumping.) Jumping traditionally isn't forced (by what I've seen). If you get a piece onto the farthest row from you, you have Kinged that piece. This piece can move forwards and backwards, and can capture pieces in either manner. Please note that, if you jump onto the square to become a King, you cannot complete a double jump. Take this into consideration: O O O O X marks your piece, O marks spaces, and # marks the enemy # # O O pieces. You CAN jump to the far row. However, from there, X O O O you will have to wait to next turn to jump the other three O O # O pieces. O O O O O O # O O O O O O O O O When someone loses all of their pieces, they lose. If neither player can move, a draw occurs.
