Duel Monsters 8 - "Reshef of Destruction" Walkthrough version 0.1 2003.6.14 by blackdiamond (blackdiamondblade@hotmail.com) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Contents 1 * Intro a - Intro to Yuugiou / Duel Monsters 8 2 * Characters 3 * Game controls a - Button functioning b - Translations of menus 4 * Rules a - Different Cards b - Rules for dueling and making a deck c - The duel screen 5 * The Walkthrough! a - Domino City / the other areas b - Search for Sen Nen Items c - The Neo Ghouls d - Sealing of the Reshef 6 * Card List 7 * Updates 8 * Contact Me 9 * Legal Stuff -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---======Intro======--- OK! If you don't know what Yuugiou is, I'm wondering how you got your hands on this game. But never mind, I'll explain that too. Yuugiou was originally a manga series by Takahashi Kazuki. Naturally, it turned into an anime not much later... Here's the basics in a nutshell. Basically, there are seven Sen Nen (Millenium) Items. The central one, the Sen Nen Puzzle, was in the hands of Mutou Yuugi who (after a long time) put the puzzle together. The Sen Nen Items possess the power of darkness (which is sealed inside them) and they may use these to play the 'yami no geemu', darkness game. Duel Monsters is a card game played by many in Domino City (where everything takes place)... well, anyway... I think that the rest of the plot will reveal itself as the game progresses. If you don't know the plotline of Duelist Kingdom/Battle City and don't want to be spoiled, then... I'll just say watch out for spoilers which are included in the walkthrough while I'm attempting to explain the game. *Duel Monsters 8* Duel Monsters 8 is, if you've played it, very very similar to Duel Monsters 7 (Kettou Toshi Densetsu) in the aspect of rules, controls, music, dueling, etc. The plotline takes place after the end of the Battle City Tournament. Other changes, plot things, etc, will be explained later. There are actually LESS cards in this game than the last (there are 800 this time instead of 900), so the order is a little changed. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---======Characters======--- The characters will be listed in no real order (other than what's generally logical) and they will be listed Japanese name first (which is listed last name first, Japanese style). If existing or if I know it, the dub name will be put next to it. The names in capitals are the ones by which I will refer to them as. Descriptions underneath. -=Mutou YUUGI=- "Yugi Moto" High school student (equiv. of 10th grade) in Domino City. He owns the Sen Nen Puzzle and has LARGE hair. Also there is the "mou hitori no Yuugi," literally meaning the "other Yuugi"... -=YAMI YUUGI=- "Yami" Cool-looking version of Yuugi (though technically there is no change, even if he does look a foot taller). His spirit is that of the pharaoh's, and his goal was to collect the god cards so he could regain his memory. He was the only pharaoh who was "wiped from the history books". -=JOUNOUCHI Katsuya=- "Joey Wheeler" Big-mouthed and a bully, Jounouchi-kun is Yuugi's best friend. But he has a really soft side for his little sister, Shizuka. A strong duelist with a good spirit. -=HONDA Hiroto=- "Tristan Taylor" Jounouchi's good friend (and also Yuugi's of course). Though not a duelist, he still has cards, and he's more of the all around kind of guy. (He has a big crush on Shizuka...) -=Masaki ANZU=- "Téa Gardener" A kind girl who roots for all of her friends - being of course Yuugi, Jounouchi, Honda. She actually knows the most about Yuugi out of their little group. -=Jounouchi SHIZUKA=- "Serenity" Jounouchi's pretty little sister, who used to have a severe eye problem (though she had an operation to fix that). She roots for her brother as a duelist and loves to watch him and be with him. The object of all Honda's and Otogi's attention... -=OTOGI Ryouta=- The duelist from Dungeon Dice Monsters. He rejoins the crowd during Battle City and stays around after that... also has a huge crush on Shizuka (and therefore is always fighting Honda for her). -=Bakura Ryou=- Unfortunately, Ryou doesn't appear in this game... (;_;) but he's another holder of a Sen Nen Item, the Sen Nen Ring. He's kind and gentle, and also very funny, but unable to control the spirit in the ring, and so he's always controlled by it instead. He's my favorite character but that information is of no importance to you ^.^; -=YAMI BAKURA=- The spirit in Bakura's ring, and the soul of a tomb robber. His only want is to collect all of the Sen Nen Items and to do so he has to put up with Bakura... he has a scary deck but there's no dueling him (until the end, when his Ouija ban wipes you out)... -=KAIBA Seto=- Of course, Kaiba, the owner of Kaiba corporation and a strong Blue Eyes White Dragon duelist. He is also the 'reincarnation' or something of someone from Egypt long ago, but doesn't believe in the Sen Nen Items, calling them the "occult" things... He has a big soft spot for his little brother Mokuba. -=Kaiba MOKUBA=- He always looks up to his big brother, and occasionally takes semi-control over Kaiba Corp. when his brother's out. A big help to Seto but also a big problem - the evil people are always taking advantage of Seto's very soft spot and kidnapping him. -=Mutou SUGOROKU=- "Solomon Moto" Yuugi's grandfather who runs a card shop. -=PEGASUS J. Crawford=- "Maximillion Pegasus" The former owner of the Sen Nen Eye and the creator of the modern Duel Monsters, he now has come back again... and I won't spoil the plotline in this section, so keep going. -=Kujaku MAI=- "Mai Valentine" Her last name literally means Peacock, I think. She uses bird cards and the Harpie Ladies. A good friend to the group... -=Insector HAGA=- "Weevil Underwood" A really annoying kid with a really annoying laugh. He is always running around collecting bugs and the sort, and his deck is completely buggy. (Literally) -=Ghost KOTSUZUKA=- "Bones" The ghost deck user who used to work for Bandit Keith. -=Espaa ROBA=- A kid who used to claim to be psychic. He's always out protecting his many little brothers. -=Dinosaur RYUUZAKI=- "Rex Raptor" Dinosaur user, who lost to Haga in the Japan national duel competition final. -=KAJIKI Ryouta=- "Maco" Ocean deck user who is always hanging around the sea trying to catch a fish. -=BANDIT KEITH=- American guy who lost to Pegasus in America and hates him forever for that. He has a lot of tricks up his sleeve and so he cheats a lot. -=MALIK Ishtal=- Finally we get to Malik. A teenager who has the curse of his family, the grave protectors, and hates the pharaoh for bringing it upon him... but then after losing to Yuugi (and having his shadow-thing banished) he returned to Egypt to remake himself... He possesses the Sen Nen Rod. -=ISIS Ishtal=- "Ishizu" Malik's sister. She knows very much about all the god cards and the Sen Nen Item business... -=RISHIDO=- Malik's servant who is extremely loyal to him. He was the seal of Yami Malik and cares for Malik a lot. -=PANDORA=- Black Magician user. He used to be under Malik in the Ghouls but now is working for Keith. -=RARE HUNTER=- Exodia user, and all he is known by is Rare Hunter (though all the people who run around getting rare cards are known as that). -=HIKARI NO KAMEN and YAMI NO KAMEN=- "Lumis and Umbra" The mask users, who have tag team duels. -=MEIKYUU brothers=- "Para and Dox" Chinese duelists (brothers) who team up in a tag duel. -=MALIK'S PUPPET=- The marionette who was completely controlled by Malik (though I don't know what's going on with him in this game). -=Yami no PLAYER KILLER=- A duelist who uses the darkness, from the Duelist Kingdom. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---======Game Controls======--- Buttons and their functions: + (D-pad) : control your character when walking, move the cursor A : talk to someone, scroll when someone is talking, confirm a selection B : scroll when someone is talking, confirm a selection, cancel (go back), walk very fast when walking L : bring up the start menu, show atk/def values of visible monsters in a duel R : challenge someone to a duel, scroll when talking, talk to someone, view what can be seen of opponent's hand in a duel Start : Bring up the menu Select : Bring up the menu, select choices in the start screen General Menu translations: If you don't know what the terms I'm referring to here mean, you might want to read the rules section before you read the translations of the menus. Hopefully this will be useful to those of you who are getting annoyed because you can't understand the menus in the game ^.^; When you start the game, you come to a screen with the Yuugiou logo and two choices. These choices are 'start' and 'continue'. If you have already started a game the cursor will automatically be on 'continue', the second option (on the right). If you want to start a new game, press select and then start. (If you've never played before then there will be no continue option.) *Game Menu* The first screen you will come to is called "Game Menu". The cursor is a little Sen Nen Puzzle. This gives options for self-play or cable link. The choices: Scenario start Link Duel Card Trade Scenario will take you to your game, from whichever time you have last saved in your room. The Link duel option takes you to another menu screen. This menu screen goes as follows: Kaban (Pack) This will take you to your pack (see below) Deck [deck number xx/40] This will take you to your deck (see below) Deck Capacity Limit This is an adjustable deck capacity (which you can change using the cursors) You can probably adjust the deck capacity for a custom duel. Total Card Cost in Deck xxxx This little thing just tells you how much cost your deck takes up. Start Go Back Card Trade takes you to the Trade Menu. This menu is as follows: Select [card] Cancel Start Go Back Choosing select will take you to your pack, the cards that aren't in your deck. The first number counting your number of cards tells you how many you have; the second in this case tells you how many you are trading. Selecting a card will bring up this menu: Detail Select Select All Return Return All Go Back Detail brings up the card's detail screen. Select puts one of this card into the trade box. Select All puts all but one of this card into the trade box. Return puts one of this card which was in the trade box back. Return all puts all copies of this card back. Choosing cancel will bring you to what I have been referring to as the 'trade box,' which cards you have decided to trade. Selecting a card brings up the menu Detail Return Return All ...which is pretty much the same as the other one. Start will begin the trade. *Start Menu (brought up by pressing L, start, or select):* There is a screen with three choices in the center, which are (in order): Status Kaban (Pack) Deck The Status Screen tells information about your player up until the point. You see a screen which has five notes on it. It reads as follows: ------------------------------------ name deck capacity ???? ???? duelist level life point ??? ???? ------------------------------------ money ?? domino The question marks are variables. The Kaban screen shows you a list of all the cards, starting with the ones in your pack and then continuing on to ones which you don't have (so in any case you have the list of all 800 cards here, which makes it somewhat hard to navigate). This is the screen where you organize your deck. First, the screen itself. The number of the card is on the leftmost side, followed with whatever fits of the card's name, its stars, attack and defense values, and the number of this card that you have in your pack and in your deck, which is then followed by a picture of the card. The number of the card you have in your pack is often red either because your deck is full, or because you can't use that card since your duelist level is too low. But more on that later. You can change the order you view cards in the pack screen. Press start and you will be confronted with a menu. You can organize cards according to: Number Name Attack Power Defense Power Type Element Amount Cost Stars Special Effect Go Back Number: The default, where the cards are grouped according to number. Name: Groups the cards in Japanese alphabetical order. Useful if you know the Japanese alphabet, but useless if you don't. Attack: Groups in decreasing attack power. Defense: Groups in decreasing defense power. Type: Groups in order of type. Within that it groups by number. Element: Groups in order of element. Within that it groups by number. Amount: Groups by how many of the card you have in total (regardless of whether it's in your deck or pack). Within that it groups by number. Cost: Groups in decreasing cost. Within that it groups by number. Stars: Groups in decreasing number of stars. Within that it groups by number. Special Effect: Groups by whether or not there's a special effect. You can also scroll between these modes using select. You can view different properties of cards using L, and it scrolls through the atk/def information (default), type/element info, cost, and blank (revealing the rest of the name). On top of the kaban screen next to the word kaban (in blue) there is deck capacity, being how much you've used out of how much you have, and then number of cards in the deck (how many out of 40). Selecting a card will bring up the menu Detail Send to Pack Put in Deck Detail brings you to the detail screen, which shows the picture of the card, and all its stats (plus a description). Send to Pack will put the card in the pack, but only if it is already in your deck. Put in deck will put the card in the deck but this will only work if there are actually some of this card in your pack and also if you can use this card (meaning your duelist level has to be higher than the cost of the card). The Deck Screen is very similar to the pack screen, except that all you can see are the cards. The only difference is that you can't see the cards in your pack from the deck screen. Everything else is organized in a similar fashion. When you select a card there will only be the options Detail and Send to Pack. I'll save the duel menus for later. *Card Shop Menu* Talk to Sugoroku and he will give you an option of buying or selling cards. (Buying is first option, selling is second) In either one, there is a new way of organizing things... When the cursor is hovering over a card it will tell in tiny print on top how much money you have, how much money the card costs, and how much you'd have left if you bought it. In tiny print on the bottom it says how many of this card there are in the store, how many in your pack and deck, the stars, cost, atk/def, type and element of the card, and on the very bottom left corner the number and name. If you press A on the card it will have the options Buy (Sell) Detail Return The organizing of cards in the shop is in a different shape so I'll show that here too: Number Attack Power Type Name Defense Element Stars Price Cost Effect Return All these options are pretty much the same as in the pack except for price, which lists the cards in descending price which the card shop is selling it for. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---======Rules of the Game======--- This section will briefly explain the [new] rules for Yuugiou for those of you who haven't played DM7 or haven't played Yuugiou at all... ** Cards ** Yuugiou is, as you probably know already, is a game of cards. There are four different types of cards, monster cards, magic cards, trap cards, and ritual cards. Each of the monster cards have different properties which I'll go into now... =Monster Cards= -Attack and Defense Each monster card has an attack value and a defense value, which will determine how it fares against other cards. In the Detail screen for a card, the Attack and Defense are below the monster's picture, and the attack is the upper value (therefore the defense is the lower value). More in the rules of dueling part. Attack/Defense values range anywhere from 0 to 5000 (but can be raised to more than that using magic cards). -Monster Type and Element There are 20 types of monsters, and these types affect how the monster will be powered up (or down) by field changes or magic cards, but the type doesn't affect whether it can win against others. The types are (in order listed in the Pack): Dragon, Magician, Undead, Warrior, Beast Warrior, Beast, Bird, Demon, Angel, Insect, Dinosaur, Pyro, Fish, Sea Dragon, Machine, Lightning, Water, Fire, Rock, and Plant. There are 11 Elements (or I suppose that's what I'll call them), ten of which have weaknesses and strengths. The element of a card may determine whether or not it gets destroyed in a duel. The elements are (in order listed in the pack): Black, White, Evil, Illusion, Fire, Forest, Wind, Earth, Thunder, Water, God I should list all the strengths (and therefore weaknesses) of these elements: Black > White > Evil > Illusion > Black Fire > Forest > Wind > Earth > Thunder > Water > Fire God - has no weaknesses or strengths (Notice the loops) -Stars Each monster has a star value which affects how it will be sent out in a duel using sacrifices. -Kouka (Special Effect) Some monsters have special effects (this will be shown where the coloring of the card is dark orange rather than the common yellow), which are either long-lasting special effects (such as that of Osiris) or one-time use effects which can only be used when the monster is just put out. Monster cards are placed on the top five spaces on your field. =Magic Cards= Magic cards do a whole lot of things on the field, some are power-up magic, some destroy other cards on the field... but in most cases they are useful and I'll attempt to go through some of the things a magic card can do. They're colored green. -Life Point regain/damage: these cards tinker with the life points of both sides of the duel. -Power-Up: You can use these cards on certain monsters (which meet the specifics of the card) to power them up. -Field: Field magic is special, it changes the field to power up certain types of monsters. The types of fields: Yami (Darkness): Power up Magician, Demon, power down Angels Yama (Mountain): Power up Dragon, Bird, Lightning Mori (Forest): Power up Insect, Plant, Beast, Beast warrior Sougen (Plains): Power up Beast Warrior, Warrior Umi (Ocean): Power up Lightning, Water, power down Machine, Fire Kouya (Wasteland): Power up Undead, Dinosaur, Rock -Monster destroying: Stuff like Black Hole and Thunder Bolt will destroy monsters on the opponent's (or both) field(s). Magic (as well as trap and ritual) cards go on the bottom five spaces on your field. =Trap Cards= Trap cards are traps, colored pink, meant to stop the opponent from doing something which might be helpful toward them. They are self-starting, meaning they activate the moment you put it on the field and do their work the first time the opponent does whatever the trap's out there to catch. I guess there isn't much more to say... =Ritual Cards= Rituals. The very annoying one. In any case these cards are colored blue, and when set they reveal that you need to sacrifice two cards for them to work! The ritual card is always paired with a monster card, and for them to work that monster and two other monster cards have to be on the field. Sacrifice the two other monsters so that the ritual can do its magic and transform the original card into a new card with element god! (You would be able to use these new cards directly in your deck but unfortunately the cost of these cards have turned into 999.) This probably doesn't seem worth it, but hey, it's up to you... ** Rules ** Finally we get into the way to duel. The basics: Both players (usually) start off with 8000 life points. The simplest way of saying it is, the first player whose LP hits 0 loses. Here are other ways to win or lose (not counting the life point stuff): --you win if you get all five pieces of Exodia in your hand --you win if you get the entire Ouija board --you win if the opponent runs out of cards in his (her) deck. There isn't (doesn't seem) to be a maximum life point value... Anyway! At the start of the duel both players get a hand out of the 40-card deck that each is using, and each hand is 5 cards. The hand can go under 5 cards but cannot go over 5 cards. On the screen there are five spaces on top for monster cards and five spaces underneath for magic or trap cards. In one turn you can only put out one monster but as many magic or trap cards as you please. The life points of either player are lessened (mainly) by monster fighting. How to explain this... this generally uses attack and defense values. When I refer to Attack mode and Defense mode, these are two modes that the monster card can be in which will determine the value being used, the attack or defense value. How these are used you (might) see in the next few examples... Let's suppose you have a Black Magician on your field. (Attack 2500, Defense 2100, Element Black) Here are some ways a duel could progress in your favor or contrary: If the opponent had... say, a Dark Elf (Atk 2000 Def 800, Black) in Attack mode, this is what would happen: Black Magician Dark Elf ATK 2500 --------------> ATK 2000 DEF 2100 DEF 800 Black Black Attack Mode Attack Mode The Black Magician destroys the Dark Elf, and the opponent loses 500 LP (the difference of the two attack values). However, if that Dark Elf was in Defense Mode: Black Magician Dark Elf ATK 2500 --------- ATK 2000 DEF 2100 -------> DEF 800 Black Black Attack Mode Defense Mode The Black Magician still destroys the Dark Elf but this time no life points are lost because the Dark Elf was in defense mode. In this face-off there isn't any element special... so what if the opponent had a BEWD (Blue eyes white dragon)? Black Magician Blue Eyes White Dragon ATK 2500 ATK 3000 DEF 2100 DEF 2500 Black ---------------> White Attack Mode Attack Mode Regardless of numbers the Blue Eyes White Dragon gets destroyed. Yes, that's right - the element differences override numbers. Whether the BEWD is in attack or defense mode here doesn't really matter - it would get destroyed anyway with no difference in the life point values. However, if there was a white card in attack mode with less atk points than the Black Magician the life points on the part of the opponent would still be lost. Again with the elements, it can happen the other way around: Black Magician Dark Eyes Illusionist ATK 2500 ATK 0 DEF 2100 DEF 0 Black -------------- <------------------ Illusion Attack Mode Attack Mode Yep, sadly a Black Magician can even lose to a 0/0 monster. Same as before but turned around. Here are some other possible occurrences: Black Magician Dark Necrophia ATK 2500 -------- ATK 2200 DEF 2100 --------> DEF 2800 Black Black Attack Mode [Reverse] Defense Mode If the defense of the attacked monster is higher than the attacking monster's attack power, regardless of type unless the type of the attacking monster is the stronger, the life points lost is the difference of the values but neither monster is destroyed unless the type of the defending monster is the stronger. So in this case 300 life points will be lost. It works similarly with attack (though I doubt you'd be dumb enough to do it): Black Magician Yami Makai no Haou ATK 2500 ------------- <-------------- ATK 2600 DEF 2100 DEF 2300 Black Evil Attack Mode Attack Mode Here the Black Magician would be destroyed (just as if the other one were attacking you). However you can see any of the opponent's attack mode monsters clearly, so you probably wouldn't attack them. The life points lost are the difference between the two numbers. A last example... Black Magician Black Magician ATK 2500 <------------> ATK 2500 DEF 2100 DEF 2100 Black Black Attack Mode Attack Mode If someone was desperate, they'd do this. If the attack values are the same both monsters are destroyed with no effect on the life points. Direct Attack: where you attack the opponent's life points with your monster (you can only do this if the opponent has no monsters on the field). Like so: Black Magician Opponent ATK 2500 --------------> LP 8000 DEF 2100 - 2500 Black LP 5500 Attack Mode ...so that (hopefully clearly) sums up what happens with the monster cards... Now the question is, how do you bring out that Black Magician? I might have mentioned before the stars and sacrificing. The rules are: 0-4 stars: no sacrifice needed: you can bring this card out directly 5-6 stars: one sacrifice needed 7-8 stars: two sacrifices needed 9-12 stars: three sacrifices needed You can only sacrifice a monster that's been out for at least one turn (which is logical, because you can only summon one monster per turn, and if you have just summoned that monster, you can't summon a second, as summoning high-level monsters also counts as a summon). Watch out for useless sacrifices - don't sacrifice anything if you have nothing to bring out! The only exception to this (I believe) is the ritual. How to sacrifice is explained in the duel screen part of this section, right now you just really need to know the rules. --Rules for Deck Construction There are certain limits for constructing your deck. The most general rule is that you can only have 40 cards in your deck, total, no less and no more. The other rules for building a deck pertain to how many of one card you can have, and then which cards can be put in your deck. *Deck Capacity and Duelist Level I might have mentioned it before, the deck capacity and duelist level. Both directly relate to the cost of the card. Each card, monster, magic, trap, or ritual, has a cost and the combined cost of all the 40 cards in your deck must be less than or equal to your deck capacity. I HIGHLY recommend using as much of your deck capacity as possible since it isn't easy to come by a high deck capacity in this game. The cost of the cards you're using must be less than or equal to your duelist level. However, even that doesn't always work out because always using cards that are on the same level with your duelist level will often override your deck capacity... You can only have three of one card in your deck except for special cards which you can only have one of each such as Black Hole, Thunder Bolt, Monster Reborn, and special cards like that. I suggest a themed deck for your own use so that it works together (and will often beat other duelists). Use cards mainly of one type (but not of one element, because that will very, very often be your downfall) so that you can power them up with cards or fields that will help. For certain duels you might want to reform your deck to have the element or elements that are stronger than those in their deck. ** The Duel Screen (and Menus) ** Now are the translations of the other stuff, so that they'll correspond with the rules of a duel... When you start a duel, there will be a screen full of cards just like that of your pack. Select a card using A, and then the menu will be Detail Bet this card Go Back If you bet the card you will gain a card if you win the duel but you will lose that card if you lose the duel. (This is the only real penalty of losing). If you don't want to bet a card just press B, and it will ask you if it's really OK not to bet a card. Go down (since the answer is in no-yes form rather than the other way around) and press A. Then you progress in the duel. As I said before, each person has a hand of five cards. The hand is laid out across the screen in front of you. (At the start of each new turn the draw is automatically dealt to you.) Each card has a miniscule hoard of information just on its face. I'll go through them... In the middle of the card is the picture, and around the card is its card color - yellow, orange, pink, green, or blue. Across the middle is a 1-2 digit number, a dot and another 1-2 digit number. Multiply the first number by 100 and then maybe add something, and you have the attack value of the monster. Do the same with the second and you have the defense. In other words, either two digit number is the value divided by a hundred and rounded down. (If the attack is higher than 9900 which I have only seen in Osiris, then it just says 99) On the upper left corner of the card, there will always be a little symbol if it is a monster card. This symbol is the element that this monster is. Here's a list of the symbols: When there is a little arrow-like thing it is one of the four (first loop): Black: Black; White: White; Evil: Pink; Illusion: Gray Otherwise, there will be a little diamond-like thing, with other colors: Fire: Red; Forest: Green; Wind: White; Earth: Brown; Lightning: Yellow; Water: Blue Then there's the symbol for the god-type cards, a cross of light like a flash of light. If there is a number in the left-hand side then that is the number of monsters needed to be sacrificed to bring this monster out (or to use this ritual). At the bottom of the card there may be a small colored square with a letter in it. The green colored "R" signifies that the card is ready to use an effect. What it literally means is that it's face down to the opponent. If it's a monster card, the "R" will remain until the card attacks, is attacked, or uses its special effect (so it can stay face-down if it's in defense mode). If it's a magic, trap, or ritual card, the "R" will remain for the duration of its existence. All cards in the hand are obviously hidden, so they all have "R"s. The "E" (which I'm guessing stands for "end") appears when a card can no longer be used in that turn, like when a monster has already attacked or been placed in defense mode, or used its special effect. A magic/trap/ritual card can never have an "E". Since only one monster can be summoned in a turn all monsters in the hand have both an "R" and an "E" when something has been summoned already. Now, the stuff that actually needs translating. Let's see, where should I start... OK! When you press B over (or not)a card's image, you will see a screen pop up with the duel stats. On the top there's a little menu which goes like this: Detail Throw Away End Turn The cursor is a little Sen Nen Eye-ish thing. Detail takes you once again to the card detail screen (but the attack and defense values are what they are in the duel at that moment - if they have been powered up or down). Throw away throws the card away and can be useful if you have useless cards in your hand or if your hand is full and you want to draw another card the next turn. End turn ends your turn. I believe there's only one other menu in the duel screen and that is the menu when you press A on a card on the field. (When you press A on a card in the hand you will have to place it in a proper place on the field.) If it's a magic card it will just activate (so watch out for that). When you press A on a monster card the menu will be such: Attack Sacrifice Defense Effect Attack means, simply enough, to attack, and you will select which card on the opponent's field to attack. Defense puts your monster in defense mode. (If it's the first turn you put it out, even though you can see it, the opponent won't know what it is.) Sacrifice sacrifices the card (you must sacrifice first and then bring out the monster, unlike in earlier games such as DM5 and DM6). Effect will use the special effect of the monster, but only if it has one and if it is 'ready'. ...Well, I think that's pretty much it. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---======The Walkthrough======--- ===Domino City=== The first thing from the start screen is the pick a name screen! There are four characters/letters allowed so do something, whatever you like. Then you will see your character in your room with Jounouchi. Apparently you, Jounouchi, and Yuugi are going to a duelist competition. Jounouchi is organizing his deck, and will then ask you how yours is. (Choose one, it doesn't really matter - if you can understand what he's saying, then do as you please but it doesn't affect the plot line at all.) Jounouchi gets excited and talks about the duel competition... but Yuugi isn't there yet and Jounouchi gets impatient. Suddenly Yuugi bursts in and says that his puzzle has disappeared along with Yami Yuugi! And so they will follow you outside (they follow you for most of the rest of the game, sadly enough). You meet Anzu in the square and tell her about what happened... Then Isis comes along and says that she heard. She tells you about the Reshef which made the Sen Nen Items disappear and will turn the God cards to stone... To get the god cards back the Sen Nen Items are needed, so she sends you in search of them. The first one, she tells you, is at the Egypt train stop. Thus you are free to go. Pause a second. What's a reshef, you say? ...I was wondering that myself. I have no clue actually but I'll take a guess at it. Considering that the title of DM8 is Reshef of Destruction and the Japanese title... well, I can't attempt to pronounce it but I at least can translate a bit. The first part obviously means 'destruction', and it's followed by the character 'no', indicating possession, similar to 'of'. So the next part means 'reshef'. Now according to the kanji, which in Chinese reads "dà xié shén" for those of you who understand that, it roughly translates as... um, a big god who... interferes? Hmm... well, I guess it tells more than 'reshef' does. So that's my attempt at explaining reshef. I'm sure someone else has a better definition, but I guess I'll live with this one... But wait. When Isis refers to the Reshef she puts the three kanji before the Reshef, so maybe Reshef is the name of this god... oh, never mind. Domino City ____________ ____________ ____________ |A | | | | | | | | x | | x | | | | | | | |- - - - - |_____|- - - - - |_______|- - - - - | | | | | | x O x | --| | x | | | < | --| | | | | | |- - - - - - -| - - - - - - - - | - - - - - - -| | | | | | | | \_______________ | x | x | x | | | x x | | | | x | x | /- - - -/____________________________________\ - x | --- ___ | | | | | | | | x | | - - | | | |B x x | | C | |___________| |_____________| The general shape of the city... The important places have letters and the x's are people. The places where you can go through are indicated by dotted lines, and the ones which are walls are solid lines. A - Your house: you save and regain your life-points here. B - Yuugi's house and the Game shop. Buy cards here. C - Kaiba corporation. There's a duel machine here. At the far left you can exit central Domino City and go either elsewhere in Domino City or around the world (which is why it says World Map). (Note: kaiba.com doesn't really exist at the moment. So don't actually try going there.) To go to the most recent spot opened, just press left (back) or up. It might help now to duel people around Domino City to raise your duelist level, which determines what cards you can put in your deck, as well as to prepare for going onto the train to go to the place where the item is. At this point everyone in the city who you duel will give you a boost of three deck capacity points (which will pretty much raise your duelist level by one each). At Kaiba Corporation bothering Kaiba and Mokuba is Rebecca. But maybe you shouldn't go there yet. Anyway you should try there later. Just go before you get the first item, or she'll be gone. After the area over there clears up you'll have access to the duel machine in the inner room, which operates like such: if you press R to talk to it, it will be ready to duel. The first question it asks you is what level you want to duel at. There are three levels, lower, middle, and upper. The first question asks you which level: Lower Middle or higher If you select lower it will just ask you if this is the right level, and if it is then press the first choice, yes. If you select middle or higher you will have another choice, middle level, or upper level. Select one (middle level is the upper choice) and then the same question, if this is the right level, will be asked. (Middle/upper level is good for collecting money, but lower level is useless.) In any case you can go to the Game Shop, though at the moment you're probably not rich enough to buy good cards. Anyway Honda and Otogi are easy targets at this time. (Even though they don't give you as much deck capacity, you can duel them as many times as you want.) If your deck gets a little better you can try Yuugi or Jounouchi, who you can duel inside the shop. ===Find the Sen Nen Items!=== Entering the train station, you will be met with a person who you'll have to duel to be let into the train platform. When you enter, you will be asked if you are a duelist or not (answer first choice, yes). Then they will tell you to play in a tag duel to qualify for the competition in the train. Choose the partner for the tag duel (Yuugi on top, Jounouchi on bottom), though it doesn't really matter who the partner is, Jounouchi will make some remarks afterwards anyway. The person you're dueling has a very similar deck to your own, and shouldn't be that hard to beat. When the three of you enter the train station, you will see the Player Killer from Duelist Kingdom follow you in. Entering the train (see the person in purple on the right? enter right in front of him), talk to everyone in the first car and then to the worker at the end of the room. The train will begin to move. You can duel everyone in the car but the only mandatory duel is the one with the controller of the train (the one you just talked to). He isn't that hard either as long as you get some decent cards in your first hand. Just a warning, he doesn't have many strong cards but he has a heck of a lot of cards with high defense and low attack. In the next room you will be greeted by... the Player Killer! He challenges you to a duel after the train apparently "enters a tunnel", and so you have to duel him... He uses a Darkness field, so you might want to watch out... This guy uses mainly Black and Evil cards, so that's my hint for this duel. After you win the controller will come in and announce that you've arrived. This guy is after the Sen Nen Items and after you beat him you will see him heading in the direction of the Item... Talk to the guy standing in front of the door in the next room. He will move out of the way, and when you go into the room, you will see the Player Killer being defeated by the guy in black. He introduces himself as the Millenium Guardians after asking you if you've come for the Tauk also. His deck is completely of the four elements Black, White, Evil, Illusion, though it is mostly white cards from what I've seen. When you win he gives the Tauk over to you. A flash of light, and then... a vision of Domino City in an inferno, with the Reshef in the background. The back of Yami Yuugi is to you, and then he turns around. When it fades away Yuugi wonders what it is as he discovers that you saw it too. He says this is the vision of the world that the Reshef destroyed (and he seems just to be discovering that what Isis said was really true). And what is Yami Yuugi doing in that scene? But then Yuugi tells you to return to Isis. When you come out Seto and Mokuba will be waiting for you. They come to see you because you were the ones assigned by Isis to get the God cards back. Mokuba says a few arrogant things but is then put down by his brother, surprising him. But Seto isn't all that friendly... When you come back to talk to Isis she will thank you for getting one item, but it is still not enough to bring back the God cards. While she is beginning to say where the next Item is a person in purple comes up and introduces himself as the revival magician, and tells you not to mess with "Tenmataiyou-sama". Then he challenges you to a duel once again in the Yami field. This guy just has a lot of Black and Evil cards (yes, the opposite of the one you just dueled) and they're all powered up by the field. After you win he gives you card which Yuugi identifies as a video card from the "Tenmataiyou-sama" and is set in the duel disc. As you put it in guess who appears? Yep, none other than Pegasus who congratulates you upon winning over two under him. He tells you that an interesting game is beginning and if you don't hurry, who knows what could happen to the world... Isis says that he is the one who brought the Reshef to life. You see another vision of fire, with the Reshef in the background again, and then Pegasus... Apparently the god cards are needed to seal the Reshef off, and she then tells you that the next item is at the Domino port at the boat. When you enter upon the boat scene there's that couple talking again. You can duel the guy if you want to. When you enter the boat you'll see none other than that Magnum chasing after Mai again and begging her to marry him. After she uses the Harpie Ladies on him apparently he still doesn't give up, so she asks you to duel him for her. All I can say is that this time, he's not very strong. (Wait till next time.) So he shouldn't be that hard to beat. After losing he complains that a big Hollywood star like him would lose, and Mai thanks you. Talk to her again and the two people standing in front of the door will move out. In the next room the item guardian is again waiting for you. He's changed his deck just a little, and now there are more black and evil cards. After beating him this time he'll give you the Ankh, and now Shadi appears in front of you (really freaking Jounouchi out). Shadi tells you that the soul of the owner of the item is inside of the item. Then he disappears. So Yuugi tells you to go back to Isis again. When you talk to Isis she says when two Items are collected, the power of Osiris no TenKuuRyuu returns. This card is Yuugi's and she offers it to him. He doesn't take it, though, saying that he can't use it. It is Yami Yuugi's card, he says, and so it isn't his. He says that you should take it, since you saw the vision of the Tauk with him and can use the god card. So now you get your first god card! Then she tells you that the next one is in Italy, at the Catacombs (the underground Christian graveyards). When you go to the Catacombs an old couple will be puzzling over the feeling in the air. After they're done with their speech go to the next room where Kotsuzuka is standing (and looking at graves?). After you tell him about the situation with the items, he seems to know where the item is but won't tell you where it is until you duel him. His deck is mainly undead cards (and therefore evil mainly). When you beat him Bandit Keith will come to meet you followed by Malik's puppet and Rare Hunter. He tells you that the Ghouls have formed to make the Neo Ghouls. Then Pandora, too, appears. They reveal that Keith wants the God Cards too. Then all four of them leave. Talk to Kotsuzuka again and he'll lead you into the next room. He will then be standing in front of another door which is where he thinks it is. Going down into the doorway the item guardian is there again. I don't think you still need tips for dueling this guy, since he's changed again but not that much. Well, not that much being some cards, since this time he seems to have a whole lot more of those cards not in the four types. When you beat him he will give you the... Ring! And guess who appears out of that ring? Yep - none other than Yami Bakura. (Hey, they couldn't cut him out completely.) He looks really cool in this game. (^_^) ...ANYway... He says he feels the presence of the God card (though isn't he the one after the items?) though he's the type to like that world steeped in evilness. (Say, he knows all this, but where's the real person all this time?!) Well, after he disappears, once again majorly freaking Jounouchi out, go back to Isis' place again. She is informed of Keith's wanting the Items and tells you that the fourth item is in China, and to hurry up and go there. On a side note, now there are some other things you can do if you want to take a break from Sen Nen Item-searching. If you go to the boat, Magnum has finally left and so Mai is alone and ready to be dueled. If you duel Mai, remembering that she has nearly all (but not all) wind cards and almost completely bird cards (plus she is in her own field), and you win, then there's a really cute scene with Honda, Otogi, and Shizuka at the game shop. See it for yourself, but I guess I still need to translate... so when you go there you will see Honda and Otogi dueling. You come in just as Otogi wins, and says that now he can go on a date with Shizuka! This gets Jounouchi mad, and he goes there and yells at the both of them. Meanwhile Shizuka comes in on the scene and tells her brother not to fight... when he protests that he's not fighting which causes Shizuka to apologize. Going into China you will be confronted by the guy selling ramen... at the next screen there will be someone who claims he is guarding China's treasure. When you go back down, Jounouchi complains to you, and then he suggests trying again. Now talk (duel) to the other person, the one in the first screen, and he will reveal himself as the older brother in the Meikyuu pair... and he, too, is working for Tenmataiyou. Duel him, and when you win his brother will come down and they will corner you. But then, Seto Kaiba will come in, and takes the tag duel with you... choose which brother you want to duel (top, the one you just dueled, bottom, the other one) and duel him. When you win you will see that Kaiba is just using his Blue Eyes White Dragon and creaming the other guy. After he leaves, the path to the item is wide open. By now you probably know the procedure... well, he's waiting for you again and this time after you beat him he gives you the Eye. Yes, Pegasus's Eye. Then, (what did you expect?) Pegasus appears in front of you, but apparently he isn't really Pegasus, he's the one called "Tenmataiyou" (if I did that right)... Bringing this news to Isis, she wonders about that too... Now the Obelisk card is ready for use. But it doesn't go to you this time, it goes to its former owner, Seto (who perfectly appears at that moment). After he takes the card, you are informed that the next item is in Canada. In Canada you will first come to a place up on a rock ledge with three people. Of them two will duel you; try them, they're pretty good and they will give decent cards. Then go into the next room where Ryuuzaki will be standing there. Talk to him (and inform him of the current situation), and then accept his duel (either way you'll duel him, so...). Keep in mind that he has a lot of earth cards! Well, after his duel you can proceed to the next room where the man in the black turban and robes is again waiting for you... His style hasn't changed much from before, just still mainly using those four (well... close) types, and after you beat him this time he will give you the Sen Nen Rod. Who to appear but the owner of that... Malik! Just a short talk with him, and it's off to talk to Isis again... Coming back from Canada, talk to Isis again. In the middle of the conversation you will see Honda and Shizuka come in, and you are then informed about the Kaiba Man Show. Yep, Kaiba Man (what will they think of next?). In any case go with Shizuka to the Kaiba Man Show at the Kaiba Corporation, and you'll be transported into the stage for the show... As you're all wondering where Shizuka is suddenly she runs screaming onto stage followed by the Big World Five who you saw before talking to Mokuba. Except now, they're all dressed in duel monsters costumes (cosplay). They look for challengers, and, of course, once again, Jounouchi puts you on the spot... so you're forced into dueling the Big World Five. Well, at least it's only one duel and not five in a row. When you beat them and return to the audience with Shizuka Kaiba Man will come out, and... well... watch the show. Now going back to central Domino City talk to Isis again, who reveals the next location for the Sen Nen Item, Galapagos. Upon arriving in Galapagos you will see in the first section Kajiki enjoying the sea. After that it doesn't make a difference whether you talk to him, ignore him, duel him, or anything. If you want to duel him, stock up on thunder cards. But anyway... the next screen will yield Haga on a search for his insects. Same with him, ignore him if you like, or you can duel him, or just inform him about what's going on, it doesn't really make a difference. Now the next room is what matters. You go in to see the Sen Nen Scale sitting on that ledge... and a person there taking it, none other than Yami Yuugi?! Well, after a short conversation, the guy gets annoyed and wonders if his 'trasformation is perfect'... upon which you know it's not Yami Yuugi but the impostor! Duel him for the item - this time it's in a yami field, but you'll have to get used to that really soon. After his defeat you will get the scale. Another vision of Shadi, who congratulates you upon obtaining six of the items. Go back to talk to Isis... There seems to be another earthquake. Yes, the god cards become unusable (turned into rock? I'm not sure) but if the Osiris was in your deck remake it. Isis tells you now to go talk to Seto... ===The Neo Ghouls=== After coming back from talking to Kaiba about the God Cards, he goes off in search of Isis. Upon re-entering the main Domino City area, you will see that it is covered with Neo Ghouls! Every section has at least one Neo Ghoul in it, so if you don't want to duel don't talk to anyone just yet. If you go to the left section, the one before re-entering your house, you will see Espaa Roba's little brothers being bothered by Rare Hunter. Espaa Roba will come and defend his brothers against other Neo Ghouls while you are left to duel with Rare Hunter. If you haven't dueled against the other Neo Ghouls yet this will probably be the first duel with one. Rare Hunter isn't extremely strong if you can use any method to get out some Illusion card first. He will be busy collecting Exodia and will once in a while put one on the field. (Better that than other things.) After beating him, Roba will guard that area of the field. Now your task is to gather other helpers to clear Domino City of Neo Ghouls. (Might help very much if you dueled the ones in Domino City just to get used to them.) Each one has a different typical type used and a different way of attacking/defending so it might help to learn them if you need to beat them numerous times. Now to get more helpers you'll have to go to each new place... there is no real easiest way to beat them all (since each one is different and by now your deck will probably be your own favorite cards) so I'll just list them in the order of which places you went to first while getting the Items. The train station and Egypt stop are at the moment closed off by Neo Ghouls. Go back there later. Mai is at the ship as usual, dueling Pandora's men. When you beat Pandora (he uses magicians, nearly completely focusing on the four types Black, White, Illusion, Evil, though probably more on the first three). I highly suggest putting all four types in your deck so you can attempt to win by type strengths as the attack/defense values of his monsters are insanely high. Also helpful would be monsters that power up in a yami field and one-sacrifice monsters, as many as you can fit, so if you get a monster that stands up against his for one turn you can sacrifice. This is probably the general skeleton for winning against all the rare hunters... In the Italian catacombs is Kotsuzuka (as usual as well). There he is cornered by a Neo Ghoul (no one special). Though this guy is a bit stronger than the others, just reorganize your deck a little and he shouldn't be _that_ hard to beat. There was no one in China before, right? Well, now Haga has gone there and is making a deal with Yami no Kamen and Hikari no Kamen. When you go over to him he reveals that he's joking and you now have to choose which of the masked people you want to duel. (Choice is Hikari no Kamen, top, and Yami no Kamen, bottom) Hikari no Kamen uses more of the mask cards, and their type is evil... but still he uses cards within the four types (which form a circle). Yami no Kamen uses certain cards outside of that circle but also mainly focuses on that. Either is pretty hard to beat with the difficulty in gathering duelist level points but... Then, in Canada, two Neo Ghouls are seen terrorizing some of the workers into telling them where the duelists are. They outnumber Ryuuzaki so he calls you to duel one of them. There isn't a huge difference in the one on the right or on the left, but it's up to you to figure out their typical cards. Galapagos. Kajiki is still there, this time fighting with Malik's puppet (or who used to be Malik's puppet) and is trying to get him to talk. Getting annoyed, he notices you and calls you to duel the guy. This person uses lots of Revival Slime (so his monsters are always multiplying, it's somewhat annoying). In any case it's a lot of water type stuff so it might help to hold a few thunder cards. But watch out because he also has earth-types. Also look out for sacrifices - revival slimes enable those to happen very quickly. That completes the people who would follow you to protect Domino City, and upon returning Espaa Roba is seen letting his brothers go to the Kaiba Man show. He welcomes you back and then you have to find the last Neo Ghoul in Domino City - at Kaiba Corporation. There you find Rare Hunter, and you follow him to see the end of the show. Rare Hunter defeats Kaiba Man easily, and then after the Big World Five join him Espaa Roba shows up. He defeats the Big 5 as you are left to duel with Rare Hunter again... After beating Rare Hunter again you will all return, and Espaa Roba tells you where Isis is, at the Egypt train stop. It's still closed off, so you'll have to take the train there. Ride the train, where you will have to have five duels in a row... not really easy but try to get ahead early. All these Neo Ghouls have only 2000 life points to start with. After beating the three on the train duel one of the people on the stairs and finally the person guarding the gate. Then the Egypt station will be opened and you can go back to Domino City to save and regain your life points. Go back to the Egypt station and go into the next room where Kaiba is dueling an entire crowd of Neo Ghouls. Talk to him, and he will let you go to where Isis is. In the room where you first got the Sen Nen Tauk, Isis is with Bandit Keith who is keeping her hostage. He will ask you to hand over the Sen Nen Items which you have collected. You have no choice but to say yes (first choice) because he threatens to do something to Isis. He will gather all the items, and bring out the puzzle, and you have to duel him... Have some white cards and some illusion cards on hand, he uses mainly Evil types but also has some black types and other types. If you have dueled him in DM7 he isn't much changed. After beating him you will take all the items, and Yuugi finally gets his puzzle back (with a nice scene with Yuugi and Yami Yuugi). Yami Yuugi takes over, and then Ra strikes Bandit Keith down... and you get the card of Ra in sphere mode as well as getting Osiris back. Soon, though, they are fighting over the puzzle and it breaks apart again, and then one of the Meikyuu brothers takes one piece of the puzzle. (Here we go again...) And so once again it's the search for the last piece of the puzzle. In the next room the other brother comes up behind Mokuba, who has come to meet his brother, and kidnaps him. After Kaiba leaves Isis tells you it's time to go find Pegasus and stop the reshef with the three God cards. The one who knows where Pegasus is is Simon Muran, who is in China, and you'll have to find him there. Note: At this point you can duel Honda and Otogi again. Might be useful to do so, since even though Honda hasn't gotten any stronger, Otogi has, and even Honda will give you some good cards. So take a look into that. Also, rediscover the dueling machine if you took beginner level for too easy and middle level for a bit too hard. You should be able to beat middle level now, and it will give you a good bit of money... ==Sealing of the Reshef== In China he tells you that you must awaken Ra, that it is useless in sphere form. The only ones who can read the ancient hieroglyphs are Kaiba, and Malik. As Kaiba is off trying to find his brother Isis tells you to find her brother in Egypt... so a new place is opened. In Egypt Rishido will greet you and say that Malik is busy. Then you'll be met with a choice: first, that he's right, or second, to decide it with a duel. If you don't want to duel, DON'T choose the second choice. If you want to duel him, he uses a lot of earth cards... But then Malik calls him inside and you find him paying his respects to his father, mother, and the spirit (Yami Malik? maybe), and then he notices you. When you tell him what you're there for, and Jounouchi recounts the encounter with Keith, he says he will help you, but will do so only if he finds you fitting to own the card of Ra. Yes, you know what that means. Duel! From here on my advice for duels is probably going to cease completely or dwindle down to a very low level because if I beat them I'm not sure how I did. Plus by now you have your own way of dueling and your own deck (hopefully, whatever you could do with the elusive deck capacity and duelist level) so my advice probably won't be needed quite as much (nor would it be quite as useful). All I will say about this duel is that it's rather annoying since Malik normally uses every magic card he gets in his hand plus he has a lot of good monster cards. Well, I wouldn't say they're good but they have a lot of special effects. As in, most of them have their special effects which get rather annoying (power down, etc) He uses Revival Slime often, some really strong fire cards, other slime-ish things with defense 2000... well, you get the point I think. As to magic cards, he always uses life point regaining cards and Swords of Sealing Light. Not to mention Thunder Bolt and Black Hole and a whole mess of trap cards... Well, when you beat him Malik will see that you are worthy of Ra's power and thinks you can handle it, so taking the card (and confusing the three of you) he reads it out loud and calls for Ra to awaken. Thus Ra will come out of its sphere mode. You will be taken into deck-editing mode and you can edit your deck from there. Jounouchi exclaims that Ra has completely been returned but Malik contradicts him. He reminds you of the other form of Ra, God Phoenix. Jounouchi asks him to awaken that too, but he says he can't do it, it must be done by the evil of his other self, since he doesn't know that power. He asks that when you know something new to go back to him. Yuugi now says that Simon Muran must now be willing to tell you where Pegasus is. So like that, it's back to Isis. Well, not exactly back to Isis, if you talk to her all she'll tell you to do is go back to China. And do so. There Simon Muran will be waiting, and as they ask him to tell you where Pegasus is, he laughs and tells you to follow him. In the next door the Millenium Guardians will be waiting for you again. Duel him (he only has 3000 LP) and he will say you can "take the Kuribo" which I don't know what that means (and judging from the question marks, neither do the characters), but anyway you can go ahead. This guy is easier than Malik, but you'll have to duel him way too many times in a row. The trick is, you can't go back and save or anything, because when you come back you'll have to start over again. In any case when you go forward you'll be transported back to the same place, beat him again, and he will tell you to take the Toki no Majutsushi (Time Wizard), confusing you again, but then he disappears and keep going... the next time, it's the Iwa no Kyohei (Stone Warrior). The fourth time, he says, I'll give you this card, take the Elf Swordsman. Though it seems different, it keeps going. Next, Curse of Dragon. (Am I doing pointless translating here?) But after the fifth time, you actually go into the chamber and Simon Muran complains that you were slow. Then he asks you if you understood the meaning of the cards you've collected up to here. (Well, do you? I've told them to you.) Then he gives you a quiz. Which card came out first? Elf no Kenshi Kuribo What was the fifth card? Curse of Dragon Iwa no Kyohei Then Yuugi reveals it, if you didn't know it already, that they are going up in levels. (Jounouchi is confused.) Kuribo is level 1, so it was first. Since Curse of Dragon is level 5, it was fifth. Then, he will make you duel him! (that's six.) This guy is pretty strong, he has cards with attack power in the high teens. These cards are cards you've been seeing very frequently, so hopefully you know how to deal with them. I can't really pinpoint his style, but I hope you can deal with him considering how hard it's been to collect deck capacity and the like. He's a good duelist, and made harder from the fact that you had to beat the Millenium Guardians five times before him. He uses trap cards and he really doesn't play by the rules unless he has a duelist level 999 - that's right, he also has those unuseable god-element cards. My suggestion: try your hardest to get out you powerful cards, because without them it's sort of impossible to win. And be cautious of his Gekiryusou (the trap that removes all monsters if you attack). Unless you have a God card out. After you win he decides to grant you your wish (to get Pegasus). He says it's currently guarded by a barrier but he will use his power to break it. Now a new area will be open, the Pegasus dock. You might want to save now. Well, going to the new area, Isis will follow you, and she will say that Kaiba has probably gone forward. Enter the doors into a gondola-thing, and Jounouchi wonders why Pegasus is doing something like this... then he asks you and you have to respond whether you understand or not (no, first choice). Let me just tell you now, though I probably should have said so earlier, don't think that just because I'm talking through this fast that it's easy... for some of you it might be for reasons I don't know (other than if you're cheating) but it did take me a really long time to even be able to duel these people. Then some green skinned person will jump in front of you and say you can't head forward. He says that he is the protector of "Tenma-sama". Now this guy uses a whole lot of different cards, all fairly strong but not extremely so. HOWEVER: they start with 10000 LP. I don't know why or how, but it seems that they do. He seems to make much use of field changes, though. As in, he changes the field, and then changes it again. But he will use cards that profit from that change. (By the way, this guy keeps on saying "Gauriniiga", which I am confused by.) Then after you beat him another two appear! They both keep on saying "Gauriniiga" and one duels you. After you beat the next one it's a similar deal. The third one who was just standing there will come to duel you. After you win him the car will stop. Then, after unloading, Player Killer and the impersonator will come to greet you. Jounouchi will offer to fight, and then tell you to choose who you want to duel. (Player Killer first choice, Death Impersonator second.) Scary! These guys seem to start with 150000 life points?! Well, these people are really hard this time. But if you win (and you will), they will be stunned and then say they will duel until they win. Jounouchi gets angry and says there's no need for you to stay there. You can either respond "it's no good" or "leave it to you" - take second choice. Jounouchi says you have to beat Pegasus down, and goes to fight with the two of them. In any case it's now just you and Yuugi and you can now go around the world again. (Isn't it kind of weird not having two people follow you now?) The new area opened is "Dungeon", at the same place as the first one. Then you are taken to a shot of Pegasus with all the green people reporting to him that you have come. He says that he will go and beat you down. Then two of the green people come and surround you and Yuugi. (You can go around them, though.) To the right is a mountain room and to the left is a fire room, each with one green being in it. Duel them or go around them, until you get to a side where you can't go around anymore. Either side, duel it and it will disappear, leading to a joint room, where Yuugi notes that you're almost at Pegasus' place. Then he asks you if you think you can win or not, and reply (I don't know, first; I can win!, second). Then the Meikyuu brothers come up before you and you have to choose which to duel with. (same choice as earlier) Yes, these guys also begin with 150000 LP! (Ugh.) Plus the field he starts with is the Mountain field. Watch out for strong cards. Or use your own. After you win you will see that Yuugi seems to be struggling, but then he gains the determination to save Yami Yuugi, and then calls on Yami Yuugi to give him power. And then, he calls out the Black Magician! He uses the Black Magic to cream the Meikyuu brother. Then, as the brothers demand a re-duel Yuugi goes up and says what he really wants to do is save Yami Yuugi and then (I'm guessing only if you chose to team duel Yuugi, though I'm not sure as I didn't play two games) a flashback to the very first duel tournament. Yuugi tells you to leave that area to him, and you go forward. The two brothers think they got an easy opponent now. Go to the next room, around the green being, and you, all alone, are allowed to tour the world once again. The new area opened is Pegasus' lair. Going to that place, Simon Muran will greet you, and he tells you that the road is infinite over there and you need a soul's light to get through. Going inside you will be greeted by Pegasus' voice, and he tells you that you won't be able to break through his power. Outside, Simon Muran will advise you to find your friends and have a duel. Don't go into the castle - it will only result in way too many duels with Kotsuzuka for you. Now, you will have to duel your old friends (as Simon Muran directs you) to get their "soul" cards. They all seem to recognize your purpose and will duel you for that. Espaa Roba - who gives you the Jinzouningen Psycho Shocker, Mai - who gives you the Harpie Lady, Kotsuzuka - who gives you Ghost King Pumpking, Ryuzaki - who gives you the Two Headed King Rex, Kajiki - Densetsu no Fisherman, and Haga - who (reluctantly) gives you Insect Queen. Those complete the soul cards. Just a note: all the following duels will take place in a default yami field. You have just dueled these people before, the difference is that they're not in their field of choice so they're actually weaker, yet they start with more LP. That's not saying they're easy, they're not. But that may just be a result of my crappy dueling. Entering the castle, go to the next room (any room). Kotsuzuka will appear, and seeing that card duel you. Then, after you beat him (he has 10000 LP!) he says that it's the soul card, and turns into a green being and disappears. Going into the next room (it doesn't matter which door you go through, it's the same), Ryuzaki will see the card that you have and duel you. After you beat him, he will say that it's his original card, his soul card, turn into a green being and disappear. Then in the next room Haga appears. He doesn't note the card, he just says that whatever you use is useless. Then, when he loses, he cries out for the Insect Queen (hah). As before, he turns into a green being and disappears. The next is Kajiki. He tells you to show him the duelist's heart. After he loses to you, he says he sees the light at the end of the deep sea, and again it's really a green being, who disappears. Then, Roba appears. He claims that he won't forgive you for beating him, and then you have to duel him too. But after he loses, he says that he hears it - the voices of his little brothers. So he, too, turns into a green being and disappears. Finally Mai appears, and says that she will definitely beat you. After she loses she tells you that there are things that can be seen and things that can't be seen, and that you will be the one with the duelist's light to break apart the darkness. Turning into a green being she, too, disappears. The next room reveals no one. Heading into the next room you see Seto dueling a green being. Again using the Blue Eyes he creams the green being. He sees that you have arrived and tells you that he will beat Pegasus on his own. Then Isis comes in and tells him that him alone, his God card alone, can't beat the Reshef of Pegasus. Seto says that his deck can beat anyone. Then, surprising everyone, Mokuba (controlled) comes in and says to duel him with that highest deck. Seto, surprised, asks him what he means and Isis says that he's being controlled, and this infuriates him. Then Mokuba asks him whether he wants to duel, or become a puppet. But Seto says he won't fight with Mokuba. So Isis asks you to fight him in place of Seto. So, yes, duel with Mokuba. Who actually has really good cards. Well, it again spans the four types. He uses similar magic cards to the other people who you have been dueling (you know, the life point regain/lose thing). (The music for this duel is pretty good.) Watch out for his stronger cards if he uses Swords of Sealing Light to bring them out. (Very possible.) When you win over Mokuba he will come out of it, yelling that his head hurts, and calling for his brother to save him. After having a little talk, Seto will ask you if you need the God card to duel Pegasus. He says he will give it to you, surprising you and Isis but... he has to duel you first. (OK, that's the eighth duel in a row.) I can't really pick up the pattern for his deck. Surprisingly enough I didn't see all that many dragons, but be prepared for anything that comes. Not surprisingly, he uses similar magic cards to many other people - meaning the best magic cards which always cost way too much. Isis says that the two of you were very even, but with everyone else's soul you weren't alone and so you won. She adds that maybe with that heart you can beat the Reshef. Seto just says that if he gives his best card to you he won't forgive you for losing. Then, after receiving the Obelisk card, Isis says it's time to go and seal the Reshef. The next room is Pegasus. He congratulates you on reaching him, and as Isis comes in and tells him to stop this, and calls him Pegasus, Pegasus says that he's not Pegasus, he's Tenmataiyou. Then he shows you that he actually has Yuugi's puzzle piece, and tells you of the perfect deck he has made. Which is not hard to believe. All I can say is good luck. He uses his toon monsters and the non-toon monsters on a Yami field, and will use many many magic cards... PLUS he starts with 20000 life points!! Even one blow of Osiris couldn't knock that out!! Well, if (and when) you win, the three god cards attack him and he says this is unbelieveable, that he lost even with the Reshef's power. Then the panel behind him begins to glow. Isis commands it to stay in the rock. But then it sends lasers around the area, sending the three of you flying back. Pegasus is confused, wondering what happened here. It seems that the real Pegasus had returned. (Interesting music.) They say that the losing spirit of a duelist is stronger than the Reshef's power. She says that the town is already in the boundaries of the Reshef, so there is no way to escape from it. Then Pegasus realizes that the losing spirit may bring the Reshef... The three god cards in light show themselves after you, and the Reshef is bringing itself to life. He says all the duelists who lost to you have their power taken by the Reshef. Seto, Yuugi, and Jounouchi come in and tell you to use your power against the Reshef. Pegasus gives the piece back to Yuugi apologetically, and in an instant Yami Yuugi has come out. He tells you to use the spirits of your friends and beat the Reshef. Then the Red Eyes Black Dragon comes out, Jounouchi's, and then the Black Magician, Yuugi's. So Seto calls out the Blue Eyes. The three of them call out their cards. The three cards attack the Reshef and Yami Yuugi tells you that now is the chance to seal it. Meaning, duel! (Arrgh, just after beating Pegasus, too...) Ouch! This thing has 400000 LP!! x_x I have no suggestions. Do your best. Might I say that this deck is beyond perfect? I can't say anything about it, unless you have all the best cards in the world, or use some field other than darkness, you might not stand a chance. Plus it has the God cards. So... um... win by luck? I think not. Oh well, if you've actually gotten here, I can only say good luck. Get a God card out or something. Hope you get a good hand, and use as many combos as possible. Take advantage of your deck. Jounouchi wonders if you've won, and Yami Yuugi says that it still has the darkness of the duelists' hearts. Surpring everyone, Pegasus goes up and all the spirits are absorbed into him. He says that the darkness in his heart can go into the Reshef. He tells you then to seal him away with the Reshef. He says you can't forgive him for what he's done, so to hurry up while he's this determined. Then the three God cards seal him with the Reshef and he thanks you. Yami Yuugi says that it's over. Then an earthquake starts and Seto says that this place is unstable now. Then Jounouchi says to quickly run away. All of them, with you last, run through the castle. As you all get to the narrow bridge on the mountains Mokuba comes and picks you all up with the helicopter. (How'd he get halfway across the world so fast?) The picture goes to Kaiba Corporation where the guard is wondering where Mokuba and Seto are, and what they did. Then he goes inside to the duel machine's room. Then he is in the Kaiba Man show's room, telling the give to put on the show, while they wonder if they can put it on without the two of them there. The guard says that the two of them will definitely come back and they have to come back to the duels and the fun. And so they suddenly go into their costumes, and the show starts. Meanwhile Magnum is bugging Mai again and asking her to marry him. Mai yells at him for being persistent and annoying, and he protests that if she marries him he won't be annoying anymore (heh). He says he's a Hollywood star and he has pride, too. Then Mai says she also already has her heart set on someone, and then thinks off to the side that maybe Magnum will give up. Instead he asks who that is. As she refuses to tell him he asks her if that's a lie, that she doesn't have someone she likes. Then she protests that there is one. After thinking to herself she suddenly wonders what happened to "that guy", surprising Magnum and making him ask what guy? She yells at him again. She says she's going out a little, and leaves the card-dealing to him. He begs her to wait, but she walks out on him. Then you go to the catacombs where the old couple is standing. Then Kotsuzuka comes in and surprises them. Then something happens to the old man and Kotsuzuka goes over to him and asks if he's okay. Then he says that it's better not to overdo it in old age. Then he says, I wonder how that guy is doing? Then the old woman asks him who, and he replies, a friend. Going to China now, where Haga has mysteriously moved to again, a butterfly flies past where he's standing. As it stops on the marble table he sees it and tries to catch it, but it flies away. This angers him and he exclaims, the bug got away! but, the bugs have come back, he says (as last time you dueled him he says there were for some reason no bugs). Then he wonders if "that guy" has come back, too. He figures since you took his card it wouldn't be weird that he went to see you. So he says he's going to see his card. Then you see Canada, where the people are claiming they've discovered something. They go inside, following the one who made the exclamation. They think maybe they have discovered a fossil or something. They are gathered around the skeleton (which was there for a long time...) and saying that it's really amazing. Ryuuzaki says it must be the real thing. One person says maybe the world-- and someone else says that may be possible. They start exclaiming about how they'll be famous. Ryuuzaki begins saying something about drawing a card from his deck. Then he leaves. In Galapagos there's a scene - huge human-sized cats seem to be ready to eat huge human-sized fish. Kajiki exclaims that this is bad. When they give a close-up of the cat's face it looks more like a mix between a cat, a monkey, and a robot... They eat the fish and run off. Then he figures he'll let that go. He hears the calling of the ocean (which he didn't hear last time) and he figures that you've won. Then he says that he won't lose either and dives into the sea. He comes out laughing, with lots of fish. Then the cats come again. He says he won't forgive them now. They act scared and run away. Then in the next part he tells them, all sitting in a line, to get wood for him. And so they do. Then one of them is just sitting there and he yells at them not to just do nothing. Then they make a raft for him. Then he says that he'll return to Domino City, and to wait for him. Finally to the Game shop. Anzu comes out and says she doesn't want to wait anymore. Then she says she wants to go and find them, but Honda says what would you do if you went? Otogi agrees with Honda (for once), and Shizuka tells her to believe in them. But then she says she can't just sit there waiting for them. Sugoroku comes outside and tells her it's okay. He asks her if she could understand, if she could feel it. Then you see people having street duels. Sugoroku shows it to her, and asks her if she could see the faces of the kids playing, it's already returned to the original Domino City. The kids come up to him asking for cards, and he says that he has new rare cards. They begin arguing over who gets to buy the cards, but Sugoroku calms them, saying that there's one for each. Then Anzu says she'll wait a little longer. Shizuka then tells them to look at that, and Otogi notes that it's Kaiba Corporation's helicopter. Espaa Roba is doing his psychic stuff again and his brothers ask him if he's worried. He says he's not, and that they definitely won, so the little ones agree with him, saying that you were stronger than the Big Five. Roba says that's right, there's no way you had lost. Then the brothers wonder if you're stronger than Kaiba Man, since Kaiba Man is invincible. Another notes that you were the first. So they wonder which is higher, first or invincibility. You hear a helicopter's sound, and Roba notes that too. So they head toward it. Kajiki comes back to Domino City with the cats. He tells them to go back, but they protest. Then Haga comes up to him. He wonders where you are, and Kajiki asks him if he got to like you. He retorts that he's only worried about the card. Then Ryuuzaki and Kotsuzuka arrive, meeting each other. They think it was about there, and hope that you've come back safe. Meanwhile Mai is pacing around, with the Roba clan watching her. Then Anzu, Shizuka, Honda, and Otogi come up to her. She complains about how slow you are. She goes up to Honda and Otogi and wonder if they've become any stronger. Honda says they've become ultra-strong, and Otogi says, what's ultra... As they are standing there the three of you finally come back. Mai begins to say, Jounouchi, and Shizuka sees him and jumps on him (embarrassing him). She just says that she's glad he's safe. Yuugi thanks everyone and Jounouchi (finally) admits that you've become stronger. Then Seto comes into the scene followed by Mokuba. He comes up to you and tells you to give the credit to Mokuba, since it was the helicopter that saved you. Then after a little more talk he says that he will duel you again next time. He leaves, and as Mokuba says that you saved him, he calls after his brother to wait for him. Then Mai says it's true, you've become rivals with her, and Jounouchi wonders that even she says this kind of thing. But she says it's a joke. She does say, though, that she's a duelist and she will make her deck stronger, and with that she leaves. Roba, too, leaves and each of his brothers says goodbye too. Everyone is happy and then Isis comes in, thanking you. But then she says she wants to seal the god cards. So she asks you to give the cards to her. Answer yes or no (if you answer no, she'll ask you if you want to become the next Pegasus), and in the end you'll have to give them to her. She thanks you and then leaves. Then Yuugi says that you've worked hard, and Jounouchi indignantly says that he worked hard too. Honda gives him credit, and Jounouchi says that he understands, they must be best friends. Then he adds, though you and Yuugi worked harder. As Jounouchi is agreeing he realizes what he said and gets mad again. Then you are shown the broken rooms of the castle, and a shot of Pegasus... then the credits, which unfortunately in this game is just a list of the names of people who worked on this game, and then a final **owari**. Now you have to shut off the game and all your hard work is erased - but for the fact that there's a new room now, an odd room somewhere in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. In there you can talk to (or duel) people (counterclockwise): Simon Muran, Shadi, Noa (wow! You'd never think he'd appear in this game. He offers to show you the virtual world, but all I have to say is he looks kinda funny), Yami Yuugi (who has an odd message), Yami Bakura (WAI! but why couldn't it be the normal Bakura?), Malik-controlled Jounouchi (weird), Kaiba, and Pegasus (who seems to be talking about wine, cheese, and comics?). And if you duel them, they start with 600000 life points?!?!? Well, you don't have to. You can also beat Pegasus and the Reshef again if you want to see that whole story again. But anyway... **The End - Almost** -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---======Card List======--- A list of all the cards. Wai! Well, the walkthrough is done, the card list is pretty much so, as are the rules and character list and all that stuff. When I have the time I'll try to translate the card descriptions rather than just the effects. Boy, was that a long game. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---======Contact Me======--- My email address is blackdiamondblade@hotmail.com, and you can also use that to IM me via MSN messenger. Please contact me if there are any mistakes, additions, etc. that you find, and I will give you credit for it. But please, don't email me with flames - I will ignore you. Just as a note, as I have gotten many questions about this before, I don't know any good sites to get ROMs of this game (even though this specific game I do happen to have on a rom), as the site I got my rom on often stops working or takes the roms which aren't recent down. Nor do I know where to buy the games online (as I get my games in a store near where I live). Also, please don't email me for codes, cheats, or passwords. I don't have any. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---======Legal Stuff======--- I'm sure you've seen this before and even if I might sound like this is a joke, it's not - if you use this walkthrough ANYWHERE without my permission then you will be subject to the full extent of the law.
