INTRO Well, it should be no surprise that my second FAQ is also for connectivity! When Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour came out, there was no hint in the game that connectivity would be used, but a year later, a surprising RPG came out for the GBA: Advance Tour. Now, once connectivity is done, you can use your Advance Tour characters in Toadstool Tour and unlock a whole slew of stuff for Advance Tour. Though I do find that linking helps you level up too easily, and that AT relied too much on connectivity. As usual, the guide may contain SPOILERS for either game. Also, another warning: You cannot cross PAL and NTSC versions of the game. From here on, Toadstool Tour will be refered as TT and Advance Tour will be refered to as AT. -1.2 Version info-------------------------------------------------------------- (v1) August 1 2005: Started FAQ (v1) August 7 2005: Finished version 1 (1.3)Nov. 10 2005: Added "Using Edited Taunts" section, made section cuts more noticeable hopefully. :) ******************************************************************************* 2. LINKING ******************************************************************************* ~2.1 How to link~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Your first link will be a little confusing, so don't worry, you have me to help you! Anyway here's what you do: 1. Connect your GBA to your GameCube (GCN) BEFORE turning either system on. 2. Turn on your GCN first. 3. Just as the title screen for TT appears, turn on your GBA and keep pressing Start. 4. When AT reaches the opening video and if TT is still on the title screen, both games will go to the linking screen. 5. Press A on the GBA to start the link. (Note: During linking, ALWAYS use the GBA's A button to advance everything.) 6. Once the link is done, AT will notify you of any prizes, then return to the link ready screen. 7. Press A on the GCN controller to go back to the main menu and press B on the GBA to return to the main menu. There. You've done your first link. After this link, a new option will appear on TT's main menu: Link. After this, choose "Link" to go to the linking screen, then turn on your GBA to open the link. Better than trying to get both games at the title screen at the same time, eh? ~2.2 Linking info~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Before you go on, there are some things you should keep in mind while linking: TT can hold four different linked files. Meaning, you can have 4 different versions of Neil and Ella on one Memory Card! Most prizes for AT will have to be obtained using the main character of a file, but some prizes affect all linked files. While TT has such liberty with linking, AT seems to not. I would advise against linking AT to TT files other than the one that was involved in the original link. I don't know the end result, but don't do it. After linking, if you've gained prizes for AT, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PLAY AT UNTIL ALL PRIZES HAVE BEEN GIVEN ACCORDINGLY. ~2.3 Linking bonuses~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ TT and AT both gain something from connectivity, but once again, it's the GBA game that profits more. Here's a quick list of happens: The first thing the link will do will is give TT its major benefits. Your AT characters, Neil and Ella, will be availble to play as in TT. On TT's character select screen, try to move the cursor up beyond the top line or down beyond the bottom line to access the AT character files. Four GBA picutres appear to represent each of the four link files TT can hold. Choose the one you want to play as. Neil and Ella will also bring over your taunts from AT. Since you can edit your gender's taunts, they will also be brought over AND WILL BE USED FOR BOTH CHARACTERS. During matches where taunts and supports can be used, use the control stick and the A,B,X and Y buttons to use your edited taunts. Use the control pad and the C-stick to use the default taunts. (See section 2.4 for more details) Another thing TT gains are all your custom clubs from AT. The custom clubs can be used by ANY character in TT. To use the custom clubs, highlight the character you want to use, then press X to access the club screen. Once you've highlighted your club sets, press A to select the character and advance to mode select. TT will also gain an experience system for Neil and Ella, though a little different from AT's. In AT, only upon sucessfully completing a task will you gain exp. In TT, as long as you have done enough to gain even 1 exp., you will be notified when you save/quit/finish whatever you're doing. After that, the exp will be stored in the proper link file. On the link screen, you wil see a little pink box marked "exp" under the appropriate file. Once you've linked, that exp will be transfered to AT and is used to level up in AT. Now, you should notice that AT only has four Mario universe characters. Linking will gain you another four. The four will also come with their star characters. AT will gain 1UP mushrooms and new holes for the Star Courses in Quick Game. ~2.4 Using Edited Taunts In Toadstool Tour~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In the last version of this guide, I mentioned Luigi using my AT taunts. Well, in a multi-player match between friends, I found that that was not a glitch at all. It seems that the connectivity file with the most recent link update takes advantage of this. During gameplay with any character, use the Control Stick and the A,B,X,Y buttons to use your most recent AT taunts and supports. Use the Control Pad and C-Stick to use the character's default taunts. For other connectivity files, they keep their own taunts for gameplay. ~2.5 Bonuses list~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Here's a list of what AT gain from linking. OTHER ******************************************************************************* -3.1 Frequently Asked Questions------------------------------------------------ Please look at some of the questions I'm asked before sending me an e-mail. Q: I don't see the link option! A: After your tiring first link, TT's main menu will gain a Link option. TT will never link from the title screen once that option appears. Q: Can the other new characters from AT be uploaded too? A: No. The only characters that can be transfered to TT are Neil and Ella. Q: Can I trade clubs from TT to AT? A: Nope. Clubs earned from AT's story mode will be transfered to TT, but TT can't be used to take clubs from one AT game to another. Q: If I link more than one file to TT, can I mix partners from different files for a team. A: Yes. It's fun to see how your characters do against or with other pairs. It's also fun to see two of the same character do the hole out animation synchronized. -3.2 Copyright/contact info---------------------------------------------------- This FAQ is my own work and I it is currently only allowed to be hosted on: GameFAQs NeoSeeker You may print parts of it for YOUR OWN PERSONAL USE.
