Level Maps & Data A. Enemies ---------- 1. Stalfos - up to four of these are found underneath each room. They will stick knives up through the floor which you must avoid, or you will be damaged. There are actually two different types of Stalfos. Type A: Always stays in the same position, raises knife at set intervals regardless of Link's position Type B: Moves left and right to follow Link (when space permits), only raises starts to raise knife when Link is above it In rooms with both types of Stalfos, you can distinguish them by the sounds of the beeps as they raise their knives — type A makes a lower pitched beep and type B makes higher pitched beeps. All rooms except room C in levels 1 and 5 have exactly one Type B Stalfos. 2. Ghost - Some rooms have a ghost in the back of the room. Occasionally the ghost will rise up and back down, and often (but not always) shoots an arrow from behind when it rises. To deflect the arrow, hold your attack button down and Link will hold his shield behind him. Be careful, however, as Link is vulnerable from attacks to the front when holding the shield behind him. 3. Guard - Each room has a guard at the right side of the room. To clear the room, you have to defeat the guard by hitting it with your sword until it is out of energy. Each hit takes 3 energy away. They can hit you with their arrows when you are on the right side of the screen, and will occasionally shoot them across the screen. As long as you aren't holding the attack button, Link's shield will deflect the guard's attacks. 4. Dragon - The top room in each dungeon has a dragon guarding the Triforce piece. Move back and forth to dodge the fireballs, and also move back to dodge when its pointy tail moves forward. Whenever you're in the right space, jam on the attack button to do damage. B. Items -------- 1. Tomahawk - One room in each dungeon has a tomahawk. Once found, Link will automatically use it at the end of the dungeon to attack the dragon. When you have the tomahawk, it will do 9 damage per hit to the dragon, as opposed to the normal 3 damage per hit with the sword. 2. Map - One room in each dungeon has a map. Once found, the map display in the upper left screen will show all the rooms in the dungeon, instead of only the room you are currently in. 3. Water of Life - When you have this item, press down on the control pad to refill your life meter to 5 hearts. It will also activate by itself if you run out of hearts. You can only have one of these at a time, so if you're about to clear a room where you'll get another one of these, use it! 4. Heart - Adds 1 heart back to your life meter if you aren't at the maximum. Unlike all other items, you don't always receive the heart after defeating a room containing one (you may get nothing from the room instead). C.
