INTRODUCTION ============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2.1 SOME HISTORICAL INFO AND OTHER SRPG GAMES ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Fire Emblem series is a famous series, but before this, it was only released in Japan, and were never released in the US. The first game in the series was released on NES. Later the series moves to SNES, then GBA. The game you are playing now is the first English version of the Fire Emblem series. I remember forgoing one night sleep for "just one more turn" syndrom this game invoke in me. At that time, I was playing the Fire Emblem 3 for SNES. This also happen with me when playing FE. Sales data (might be inaccurate) Based on NPD data, the sales of FE : Nov 2003 : 75,748 unit, rank #7 Dec 2003 : 111,728 Jan 2004 : 23,855 Feb 2004 : 20,395 Mar 2004 : 24,308 Lifetime To Date : 256,034 For you who enjoy this game, please try the Advance Wars and Advance Wars 2 game on GBA, also by Intelligent System and Nintendo. Advance Wars is another game that induce the "just one more turn" syndrom in me. For those who have PS2, you can also try Dynasty Tactics and Dynasty Tactics 2 by KOEI. These two games are also Strategic RPG games (SRPG), covering the Three Kingdom Era, an era of Ancient China that are filled with famous general and many battle. Other good SRPG, a famous series, is the Super Robot Wars series, by Banpresto. Unfortunately, this series is Japanese version only , no English version yet. This series is about battling using many robot (Voltus, Gundam, Mazinga etc). Every robot have their own special attack type, and special battle/fight animation (taken from the anime series). Currently (up to October 2003), there are four SRW games for GBA (latest one is the Super Robot Taisen D), and several games for PS2 (latest one is the 2nd Super Robot Taisen Alpha). ============================================================================== 3. MENU AND GENERAL TACTIC ============================================================================== There are four type of Menu. I will give detailed information for each menu in their respective subsection, but I will give general information on them here. 3.1 Main Menu This is the menu you will get when you turn on your GBA/GBA SP, with FE game cartridge inserted in the cartridge slot. 3.2 Battle/Character Menu This is the menu that will show up after you move one of your character/unit. 3.3 Field Menu This is the menu that will show up when you press A in empty square or any character that are grey (have moved in the current turn) 3.4 Preparations Menu This is the menu that will show up once you finished chapter 6. This is the menu you get after you finish a chapter, and before you start a new chapter. Which of these musics you can here depend on whether you have triggered the requirement or not. When you first start the game (by turning on your GBA or GBA SP), you will encounter the main menu. There are three slots provided for saving your game. I suggest you use all three slots, so you can get back to earlier game if you have inadvertently made a mistake. There is also in-game save. In-game save will be automatically saved whenever you made any move, not when you end your turn. If this is your first game, the only option available will be : New Game ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ When you choose "New Game", you will select the slot that you wanted to use. Choose any slot (first slot if you have no preference), then you will be asked to whether you wanted to enter your name or not. Note : If you wanted to skip the conversation, you can press START button, and it will skip the part you are on (introduction, map, conversation). Based on birthmonth, you will get your Affinity. The possibilities are Fire, Water, Wind, Thunder, Magic, Light, Dark See table below for resulting affinity, based on blood type and birth moon. Use this chart if you wanted to have a certain affinity (like Light) Month Affinity January Light February Water March Wind April Thunder May Wind June Magic July Fire August Dark September Fire October Magic November Water December Thunder ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3.2 BATTLE/CHARACTER MENU ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ During battle, pressing A button when the cursor square is on top one of your unit (in blue color), it enable your unit to move through movement stage. All square in blue show the square you can move into, while the one in brown color show square you can attack based on all weapon in your unit inventory. After the movement phase of your unit, you will encounter the Battle Menu. Depending on your situation, the battle menu will vary. If you can do both talk and support, the menu that show up is talk. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ITEM. There will be submenu, which change depending on the situation. Possible option are : Use/Equip : Can be used to change the equipped weapon or use item. If the item selected is a weapon, then the menu is equip. If the item selected is an item (key, treasure key, Vulnerary etc.), then the menu is use. Trade : This option appear if there is another unit directly beside you. Use this option to change the selected item with your neighbour. The trade submenu will the show up. Discard : This is always the lowest option. Use this to throw away the item. Additional menu and their trigger : Arena If your unit is on the arena square, you will be given this choice. You will then be told the amount of bet, (700-800), and you will need to choose YES (left one) to start the fight or NO (right one) to cancel your participation. If you lose, your character will die, and you will lose the bet money. If you win, your character will live, gain experience, and you will win 2x the bet money. You can use b to cancel during the fight. You will lose the bet if you cancel, but your character will live. Pressing B will only stop the fight in the next round, so you need to keep your eyes on your character health. Should you think that s/he may loose in the next round of fight, press B. TALK If your unit is the Lord, this function is mostly used to recruit enemy. Usually, if a unit has a relationship with another unit, this unit will be able to convince other unit to join. For details on how to recruit a certain character, it can be seen in the chapter walktrough. Hint : If enemy unit (other than boss) has a portrait and name and attribute (wind/fire/magic etc), instead of generic name, usually it mean it can be recruited. You just need to find the right person (not always Lin/Eliwood), it can be somebody else) to recruit that character/unit. This can be done by certain character, usually character that is of the same class and has different opposite type (water and fire, for example). If the two characters have "support capability", then sometime this menu will appear when the characters are adjacent (side-by-side). I suspect that purpose of the talk menu in this instance is to give the initial support level (make it easier to get a support relationship) between both characters. SUPPORT This menu will show up once relationship between characters have reached a certain level. This can be done by certain unit, usually unit that is of the same class and has different opposite type (water and fire, for example). If the two unit have "support capability", then this menu will appear when the units are side-by-side. There are three type of support level : A (highest), counted as three levels B (medium), counted as two levels C (lowest), counted as one level One character can only have 5 levels of support. So, possible relationship example : Example 1 : Character 1 A level Character 2 B level or Example 2 : Character 1 B level Character 2 C level Character 3 C level Character 4 C level All of above relationship example used up 5 level of support, so this character can no longer have additional support with any other character. Indication that your character already have maximum support is that all support text will be green colored, instead of the standard Blue colored text. Detailed info on this will be explained on 5.7 Support List Example : After choosing this menu, there will be the name of the friend in the "weapon and support level", together with the support level (always start from C). If you wanted to know who wanted to support which, choose "Army List" from FIELD MENU, go to page 6, and anyone who can upgrade the support level will have the name of their partner show up on this page. Based on my experience, I will also write down on the character list who character can have relationship with that character. STEAL Can only be done by thief unit when they are adjacent to enemy unit, and the enemy unit has inventory that is neither weapon, book, staff. Every time you steal, you will get +10 EXP. DOOR Can only be done by thief that still has remaining lockpick or other class that has the key (see item list for more information). If thief that has lockpick and key wanted to use the key, he/she will have to use the "use item" menu, since this menu automatically use the lockpick. Key is key that has only one maximum usage. CHEST Can only be done by thief that still has remaining lockpick or other class that has the treasure key (see item list for more information). If thief that has lockpick and treasure key wanted to use the treasure key, he/she will have to use the "use item" menu. Treasure key is key that have five maximum usage. Once the chest have been opened, then "chest" become "empty chest". VISIT This will happen when you are in the square that denote open fence village. Using this option will trigger an conversation with the village resident, and usually you will get money or item. This option will also appear when you are in the house (house is single square, while village is usually 4 square or 2x2). MERCH This option will show up when your character stop in a square directly next to Merlinus. Choosing this will show another set of menu : Give : choose any of your character's item, and this item will be stored. Take : to get an item into your character's inventory There are many tabs (sword, spear, axe, bow etc) and you can navigate/change active tab using the d-pad left or right. RESCUE, TAKE, GIVE and DROP If your unit (A) is next to another unit (B), and A's Aid value is same or higher than the constitution value of B, then "Rescue" will show up. If you select this, then B will disappear from the map, since it become one with A. As a result of A rescuing B, A will have his "Skill" and "Speed" value halved and rounded down. The "Skill" and "Speed" value will return to the original value once A is no longer in the rescuing state, by dropping B, or having another character transfer B from his safe keeping. If you move a character (A) to square adjacent to the character in Aid state (B, Aided person C), if A's Aid value is same or higher than C's constitution value, then "TAKE" will show up. If you select this, C will be transferred from B to A, and B's penaly in Skill and Speed will dissapear, while A will get the Skill and Speed penalty. If A is in Aid state (have B in safe keeping), and there is another character (C), whose Aid value is same or higher than B's constituion value, "GIVE" will show up. Choosing "GIVE" will make B transferred from A to C, A will lose "Skill" and "Speed" penalty, and C will get the Sill and Speed penalty. If A is in Aid state (have B in safe keeping), and there is an empty adjacent square on A's position, "DROP" will show up. Choosing "DROP" and determining which square you want B to appear on, will result in B showing up on the designated square (B lose the Aid state damage protection), and A will lose "Skill" and "Speed" penalty, since A is no longer in Aid state. RIDE and EXIT When you are in Ballista square, the "RIDE" option will show up. It enable you to use the Ballista. If you wanted to stop using the Ballista, use the "EXIT" option, and you will dismount the Ballista. SEIZE Some chapter will have winning condition : seize throne. After you kill the boss, Lin/Eliwood can go to the throne (usualy a square that were occupied by the boss), and this option will show up. Choosing this option will end current chapter, and start any post chapter conversation. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3.3 FIELD MENU ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ If you press A in empty square (none of the character, either yours or enemies', is in this square), or you press A on your character that has finished his move in the turn (this unit will turn grey), the Field Menu will show up. There is always five options in this menu, which are : UNIT STATUS OPTIONS SUSPEND END Unit : Using this menu, it will show up all of the character that is in the current map. There are six screens, with the following names and columns : 1. Character: Name, Class, Level, Experience, Hit Point, Maximum Hit Point 2. Explanation of screen : On upper right corner, you have the Chapter No, and the winning condition. On the left side, you have 5 menu, with text that explain you can press "START" to start the battle (chapter). On the right side, there is some explanation area, which explain about the menu you select on the left part. Options in this menu (left side of screen) are : PICK UNITS TRADE FORTUNE CHECK MAP SAVE Press "START" to start the battle. Pick units : press A to select/deselect a character. Please note that there is a limit of number of character you can bring to a chapter, which will change from chapter to chapter. On the upper right corner, there are 3 numbers. First number is remaining character (empty slot). Second number is the number of character you have selected. Third number is the number of total characters you can bring to this chapter. On chapter 7 (the first chapter this menu show up), you can choose a maximum of 8 characters. I suggest you use the maximum allowed characters, since it will make your game easier. Press "START" button to start the battle. Press "SELECT" button to see "UNIT LIST" screen (1-6). You can also select and deselect character using A button in this screen. Press B to get back to the previous screen. Trade : When you select a character using A button, another menu will show up, in which you can : * Trade * List: search for items * Use (stat item) * Sell (show up if you have Merlinus) * transfer (if you have merlinus) * Give all - give (store) - take (retrieve) Fortune : (this option will be active starting from chapter 14) * Rank - Tactics : measure how many turn it take you to finish. If you take too many turn to finish chapters, your ranking will be lowered. If you use my turn by turn guide, you should be able to get five stars rank in this category. I have not confirmed it yet, but it was said that the first 11 chapters (Lyn Chapters) is not counted towards this result. - Survival : measure how many of your character were killed. It also record the no of death even if you replayed the chapter. If you lost two character, replaying the chapter will not erase the fact that you have lost two characters in your attempt. Note : If you wanted to cheat on this item, you can use two slot to save a chapter, and copy the clean slot (have no death yet) should you have death in the other slot. - Funds : measure how many item you get from the game. If you miss many chest, you will have a low rank in this category. If you use a lot of upgrade class item or stat enhancing item, your rank in this category will also decrease. So, sell or use items only if you need to (suggested by me in this main guide). - Experience : based on levels (total Experience) that everyone have in your team. If you do a balanced leveling, it should be easy to get five stars in this category - Combat : ratio of battles won/total battles fought. If you win all battles, you should get five stars in this category. * Tactician : You can see advisor data here : Name, Blood, Month of Birth, male/female, ranking. Ranking star will increase when you have finished more chapter. * Augury : By paying small amount of money (50-60G), you can get tips for the coming battle / chapter. Since you are reading my FAQ, it is not necessary for you to waste money using this option. * Reading. (available since chapter 22x). In this section, you can see list of support for each person. Check Map : - View Map Select any character (yours or enemies), and you can see their movement range. Press "SELECT" when you are finished with this function. - Formation Select a character with A, and choose another character with A, and their position will be swapped. You can not change Leader (Lin/Eliwood) starting position. To finish changing position, press A in empty space or press "SELECT". - Options - Save Save : Self explanatory enough. Use this if you have finalized the character selection and/or inventory management, or if you wanted to quit the game. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3.5 UNIT STATISTIC EXPLANATION ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name : The name of the characters Class : There are many type of basic / standard class, together with their upgraded class. For details of class type, please see section 5.3 Class List Level : Starting from 1, to a maximum of 20. If your class can be upgraded, using the correct upgrade item, you can upgrade once you were on level 10 or higher. But it is better if you wait until level 20 before you upgrade. Benefit : Your attribute will be higher, since every level increase gave a possibility of attribute increase. Attribute that can increase during level increase is Max HP, Strength, Skill, Speed, Luck, Defense, Resistance. Experience : Once you fight with enemy, either they attack you or you attack them, you will get experience. Once your experience reach 100, it will reset to zero, and your level will increase by one. The experience you will get follow this rule : A. When you reached level 20, you will no more get experience increase, since you are at the maximum/highest level already. B. If you do not hit them (either because they are out of your weapon range, or because you miss, or because your hit is "no damage"), then you will get 1 experience C. If you hit them, but do not kill the enemy unit, you will get (their level - your level)/2 + 8 (rounded down ?). This means if your level is higher than enemy, you will receive less than 8 EXP. But if your level is lower than the enemy, you will receive more than 8 EXP. The minimum is 1 EXP. For advance/upgraded class, the formula is complicated by the fact that not every upgraded class is treated the same. Once I found out how the upgraded class is considered, I will put it here. D. If you hit them, and kill the enemy unit, you will get (their level - your level)*3 + 43. This means if your level is higher than enemy, you will receive less than 43 exp. But if your level is lower than the enemy, you will receive more than 43 exp. The maximum is 100 EXP. For advance/upgraded class, the formula is complicated by the fact that not every upgraded class is treated the same. Once I found out how the upgraded class is considered, I will put it here. Note : - Level 1 Thief is considered as Level -12 Archer. - I am still trying to get the correct formula for experience, since it looks like the formula given above is not valid for EVERY instance. Hit Point : Your character current Hit Point. As your character receive injury from the battle, their HP will go lower. To increase the HP, you can use Vulnerary in your inventory (through item menu) or if you have healer, you can use their healing staff to cure. Maximum Hit Point : This is the maximum amount of Hit Point. Whenever you heal, you can not exceed this value. Example : Your HP is 20, and your MHP is 29. If you use a Vulnerary, which will recover 10 HP, you HP should be 30. But since 30 is bigger than your MHP, which is 29, your HP will not become 30, but become 29 instead. Strength : This will affect the damage you inflict to your enemy. The higher the number, the more damage you inflict. Skill : This will be used to calculate the %hit. A higher number improves the unit's hit %. Speed : This affects both evasion and attacks. This will affect whether you will hit enemy once or twice, and also whether your enemy will attack once or twice. If the speed difference is 4 or higher, then the higher speed unit will attack twice. If you are using a weapon that have higher weight than your constitution, then your speed for calculating the number of attack will be affected. Example : enemy speed is 12. Your speed is 16. You should be attacking twice, while your enemy attack only once. But since you are using a weapon that have 12 weight, while your constitution is only 10, then your speed will be considered as 14 ( 16 - (12 - 10). This does not mean that if you are using a weapon that have lower weight value compared to your constitution, you will have an increased speed. Luck : This affects many different things. This will also affect the calculation of the % hit. Defense : Reduces damage from weapons. This will affect how many damage you will receive from enemy attack that is not magic based. Resistance : Reduces damage from magic attacks. This will affect how many damage you will receive from enemy attack that is magic based. Movement : How much you can move in one turn. Please note that some square need more than one movement for a certain unit. If there is special treatment, I will note it in their own chapter walkthrough. For more information on terrain and their movement cost, please see 5.5 Terrain List. Constitution : This is your capability of wielding weapon. Try to avoid using weapon that has higher weight compared to your character constitution since it will make your % avoid value lower (see below for more detailed explanation), and may caused you to be attacked more often (twice instead of once) or attack less often (once instead of twice). Aid : This is a value that specified your Aid capacity. You can Aid a unit that have same or lower constitution value compared to your Aid value. If the unit have higher value in constitution compared to your Aid value, you can not Aid that unit. Please note that during Aid, your skill & speed will be halved (and rounded down), to reflect the fact that it is much harder to fight when you are lugging another unit. The benefit of a unit that was Aided is that they will not sustain any damage. Traveler : This value will only be filled when you are in Aid mode. The value in this field is the name of the unit that you are traveling with. Affinity : This show the symbol of elements you are strong with. Condition : This value will only be filled if you are affected by special condition (like poisoned, silenced, confused). There will be an explanation of the situation and the number of turns. After the turn counter reached zero, the condition will disappear automatically, and you will return to normal condition. Equipped weapon : Self explanatory. Attack : Amount of damage this weapon causes. Affected by defenses. Derived from the following formula : Strength (from character stat) + Sharpness (from weapon stat) + Support bonus (cumulative) Other way to get the attack value, is to go to possession item screen (screen no 2, accessed by R button on the character). See the value of the row and column right under the "Equipment" word, that is the attack value. % Hit : Chance that the attack will hit. Affected by terrain and enemies. From the following formula : Hit (weapon stat) + 2 * Skill + Luck /2 (rounded down) + Support Bonus (cumulative) % Avoid : Ability to doget enemy attacks. Affects enemy's hit %. From the following formula : 2 * Speed + Luck - (Weight - Constitution) * 2 + Support Bonus (cum) If your weapon weight does not exceed your constitution, then the value used in the calculation is zero (not minus). Critical : Chance the weapon will strike a critical blow, doing triple damage. From the following formula : Skill / 2 (rounded down) This statistic show how probable for you to do "critical". In critical attack, your attack damage will be tripled. So if your standard damage is 10, a "critical attack" will give 30 damage. Weapon Level : Each character, depending on their type, will have proficiency in a certain type of weapon (for fighter type) or book/staff (for magic type). If you do not have any proficiency in that type of weapon / magic (denoted by "-"), you will not be able to use it. If your proficiency level is lower than the weapon level requirement, then you are also not able to use the weapon. Example : All legendary weapon have level requirement of S, so if your level is lower than S, then you will not be able to use the legendary weapon. Level from lowest to highest : E - D - C - B - A - S. Please note that for basic class, your highest level of skill is A. Only upgraded class can have skill level of S. If you wanted to increase your skill in a certain weapon type, you need to use the weapon during fight with your enemy. There is a progress bar in each weapon, so you will know when you are nearing weapon level increase (when the bar is full to the right). Support : You will have a maximum of 4 friend that can support you, and give you bonuses in attack, % Hit, % avoid and Critical (Deadly). Level of support will increase from C to B to A (highest). I am still not sure how you can increase the support, but usually I paired the couple and have them fighting the same unit (usually the boss unit). Once they can do support (or increase their support level), it will show up in the menu when they are standing side by side or in the "Army List" menu, support chance screen (Not all support chance show up immediately on the support chance screen). Note : it is possible that the support can increase just by having characters standing by each others when you end each turn. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3.6 GENERAL TACTIC ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ - Weapon will break. Once the usage reached zero, then the weapon break, and you can longer use that weapon. It is important to plan ahead and never run out of weapons. - Try to conserve your good weapon for fight against difficult enemy (high level, high defense). Otherwise, use an iron weapon, which have a high hit % value. An exception to this tactic is the pegasus unit, which have a very low constitution, so you will be better of using slim spear and slim sword. In my opinion, steel weapon is pretty much useless in the game (they have increased weight and decreased accuracy compared to iron), except steel axe. - As much as possible, use a weapon that have a lower weight compared to your constitution. This will make your % avoid maximum, and you will have less chance of sustaining any damage. It will also maximize your speed, since you will not suffer a speed penalty (weight - constitution). Higher speed (less speed penalty) means you may be able to hit the enemy twice, and minimize situation in which your enemy attack you twice. - When you wanted to fight, please consider the weapon you use (especially for paladin class, which can use sword, spear and axe). Use the following chart of weapon and magic strong against and weak against : Sword : strong vs. Axe, weak vs. Spear Spear : strong vs. Sword, weak vs. Axe Axe : strong vs. Spear, weak vs. Sword Anima : strong vs Light, weak vs. Dark Dark : strong vs Anima, weak vs. Light Light : strong vs Dark, weak vs. Anima If you are strong, you will have 15% bonus to your damage and %Hit If you are weak, you will suffer 15% additional damage and % Hit. Note : Some weapon will give reverse effect of this strong and weak vs. Look up the weapon detail to see whether the weapon has reverse strong and weak. - Thief and Bandit can destroy village, so kill them as soon as possible. - Note than some weapon are critical against a certain class. Since critical give you twice or more damage (your strength is effectively doubled), use those special weapon only when you need to. - Keep flying unit (pegasus knight, dragon knight and their upgraded class) away from bow weapon, since bow weapon will give critical damage to flying unit. - Wait until you reached level 20 before changing class, so you will get higher stats. - Instead of using only 15 characters, try to level most characters, so when you want to use the upgrade class item, you will have choices in selecting the character you will use the item on. It will make your life easier, in the later chapters. Once the characters were upgraded, choose around 15 characters, with a good mix of characters. - Use the Arena when you encounter it, but do not spent too much time using them, if you wanted to get good / perfect rank. - Torch will increase visibility when fog-of-war effect are active. Give torch to thief, and they will be able to see all enemies in 13 squares radius. - To achieve fast battle, use your rear units to attack the enemies first, so your front units can attack enemies rear unit. - Conserve your money. Try to never have less than 1000G when you are done shopping. Reduce your cost (expense) by : - Purchase only iron weapons. - Use only iron weapons. Use better weapons (silver, steel, killer etc), when you need to. Increase your revenue by : - visiting house or village that give money. - go to extra chapters - go to arena. IMPORTANT : - Never sell weapons you have. Sole exception is when you are nearing the 100 item limit in Merlinus tent. - Chapter 1-10 is tutorial. No need for you to save money. - Plan ahead. See this FAQ for store list, and items they sell, and try to plan ahead. - See this FAQ, which will give suggestion on items you buy. This advice is more usefull if you keep on using the same character as I did. ============================================================================== 4. A swordfighter with an important mission. Opinion : There are three characters that are Lord class. If any one of them died, the game ended (game over). Rating : 5 (of 10) Class : Archer Level : 1 Hit Point (HP): 18 Strength : 4 Skill : 3 Speed : 3 Defense : 3 Resistance : 0 Movement : 5 Weapon : Bow (D) Upgrade to : Sniper (New weapon : N/A). Deadly +30 Description : Lightly armored warriors armed with bows. Can attack from a distance. Opinion : Can attack from afar, can not do melee attack. Slow movement. Pretty useless. Use Nomads as soon as you got one. Rating : 3 (of 10) Class : Bard / Dancer Level : 1 Hit Point (HP): 14/14 Strength : 1/1 Skill : 2/2 Speed : 7/7 Defense : 1/0 Resistance : 0/1 Movement : 5/5 Weapon : N/A Upgrade to : N/A Description : Musicians whose songs inspire allies. Cannot use weapons or attack. Opinion : Useful in the middle chapter. Useless in later chapter. Opinion : A little bit less useful than fighter, but can traverse mountain. Rating : 2 (of 10) Class : Cavalier Level : 1 Hit Point (HP): 20 Strength : 5 Skill : 2 Speed : 5 Defense : 6 Resistance : 0 Movement : 7 Weapon : Sword (E), Spear (D) Upgrade to : Paladin (New weapon : Axe) Description : Mounted knights with superior movement. Well balanced for speed, defense & attack. Opinion : Best standard class. Just remember to not use them exclusively, since in upgraded class, paladin is not the best class. Rating : 8 (of 10) Class : Cleric Level : 1 Hit Point (HP): 16 Strength : 1 Skill : 2 Speed : 2 Defense : 0 Resistance : 6 Movement : 5 Weapon : Staff (D) Upgrade to : Bishop (New weapon : Light) Description : Wielders of sacred staves that aid allies. Cannot use weapons and cannot fight. Opinion : Very difficult to live without this class. Bring at least one every chapter (two is even better), until you get troubadour (which is even better than priest) or upgraded your mage/monk. Rating : 5 (of 10) Class : Fighter Level : 1 Hit Point (HP): 20 Strength : 5 Skill : 2 Speed : 4 Defense : 2 Resistance : 0 Movement : 5 Weapon : Axe (D) Upgrade to : Warrior (New weapon : Bow) Description : Axe-wielding powerhouses whose wild fighting results in poor defenses. Opinion : Almost the same as bandit, but a little bit more useful, especially after upgrade. Rating : 3 (of 10) Class : Knight Level : 1 Hit Point (HP): 17 Strength : 5 Skill : 2 Speed : 0 Defense : 9 Resistance : 0 Movement : 4 Weapon : Spear (D) Upgrade to : General (New weapon : Axe) Description : Heavily armored knights. Superior defense outweight his poor movement and speed. Opinion : Good doorstopper against non-magic enemy. Very slow movement. Rating : 4 (of 10) Class : Mage Level : 1 Hit Point (HP): 16 Strength : 1 Skill : 2 Speed : 3 Defense : 3 Resistance : 3 Movement : 5 Weapon : Anima (D) Upgrade to : Sage (New weapon : Staff) Description : Mages schooled in anima magic. Bypass most defenses but weak against weapons. Opinion : One of the best class. Very useful. Rating : 5 (of 10) Class : Mercenary Level : 1 Hit Point (HP): 18 Strength : 4 Skill : 8 Speed : 8 Defense : 4 Resistance : 0 Movement : 5 Weapon : Sword (D) Upgrade to : Hero (New weapon : Axe) Professional soldiers-for-hire. Well balanced, with superior abilities all around. Opinion : Quite useful early in the game. Became less useful later on. Rating : 5 (of 10) Class : Monk Level : 1 Hit Point (HP): 18 Strength : 1 Skill : 1 Speed : 2 Defense : 1 Resistance : 5 Movement : 5 Weapon : Light (D) Upgrade to : Bishop (New Weapon : Staff) Description : Ascetic wielders of sacred light magic. Superior ability to hit but low in power. Opinion : One of the best class. Best against Shaman or Druid. ANSWER TO THE MOST-ASKED QUESTION ============================================================================== Q : I do not understand your FAQ (especially the turn-by-turn FAQ). They said : Move Sain to (4,13). Where is (4,13) ? A : I use (X,Y) coordinate to refer to square in a MAP. X is horisontal, while Y is vertical. (1,1) denote lower-left most square (or South Western most square). Example : In chapter 2 MAP, House is on (1,1), (1,3) and (2,3). Fort is on (3,8) and (4,8). Q : How many extra chapters in this game, and what are the requirement to reach those extra chapters ? A : List of extra chapters, and the requirement to reach them (not a complete list yet) : - 7X : Finish chapter 7 in 15 turns or less. Even if you do not go to North East village, as long as you finish this chapter in time, you can go to 7X. - 13X : No specific requirement. One possible requirement is visiting the village. - 16X : There is no # of turn requirement to go to this chapter. I've got feedback that you need to save at least one ally soldiers (that was in prison). - 18X : Finish chapter 18 in 15 turns or less. - 22X : Recruit Hawkeye and possibly you also need to get 700 EXP in chapter 22. Q : Where can I get Arena ? A : Arena are available in the following chapters (not a complete list yet) : - 16X - 20 - 23B Q : Which chapter have secret shop ? A : Secret shop are available in the following chapters : - 19 : 2 Secret shops, in (22,1) and (8,17) - 20 : 1 Secret shop, in (3,21) Q : Should I follow your FAQ to the letter, and bring the characters that you brought ? I only use your FAQ when I need it, and I develop different characters. A : Please feel free to make the necessary changes based on your actual situation. Example : In my game, Rebecca have better stats compared to Wil, but if in your case you have developed Wil, then every time I suggest you bring Rebecca, you substitute Rebecca with Wil. General suggestion : choose a different character with the same class, or at least a same type weapon wielder class (Myrmidon and mercenary, both are using sword, so you can substitute Guy with Raven or vice versa). Q : I can not access the secret shop. Help !! A : To access the secret shop, you need to put the member card in one characters's inventory, and select the "secret" menu that show up when you are standing in the correct square. If a character doesn't have the member card in their inventory, the "secret" menu will not show up. You can steal the member card from enemy thief that show up in Chapter 19. For more details, you can see Chapter 19 walkthrough. Q : Can you bring the people who died back to life and if you can how? A : I'm not 100% sure yet, but I think you can not. Exception is for tutorial chapter (Lyn's chapter, Chapter Prologue - Chapter 10). In these chapter, all who died do not really died, they just disappear and will show up in Eliwood's chapter. Q : Where do I get upgrade class items ? A : The list of upgrade class items you will get is as follows : - Elysian Whip - Chapter 20, Village (20,14) - Guiding Ring - Chapter 17, got from enemy shaman. - Chapter 19, Chest (22,13) - Chapter 22, steal from Jasmine. - Hero Crest - Chapter 16, Chest (3,9) - Chapter 20, steal from Oleg. - Chapter 22, location (1,11), (2,11), (1,12), (2,12) - Knight Crest - Chapter 16, Chest (3,27) - Chapter 21, got from enemy cavalier. - Orion's Bolt - Chapter 18, got from Uhai. - Chapter 23B, Village (4,15) - Ocean Seal - Chapter 22, location (19,1), (20,1), (19,2), (20,2) - Earth Seal - Chapter 23B, Village (25,4) ============================================================================== 7.
