Version History ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Version number: 0.01 The ultimate in bare-bones. I just got the ASCII art at the beginning of this guide, wrote the Table of Contents, and stopped working on it for the day. Version number: 0.30 Okay, I got a little further than last time. Version number: 0.90 Everyone is added except Lyon. This is the first version submitted to GameFAQs. Version number: 1.10 I added in everyone's max stats, and growth rates, even Lyon, who I now have the info for. This guide is pretty much complete, I would think. I'm not going into strategies for the Tower and Ruins, but I might add in better overviews of the characters. Version number: 1.50 It's complete. I added in the average stats at level 20 for all of the characters, and I added in their Affinities. Some minor formatting changes may occur. Version number: 2.00 Everything is done. I don't expect to be adding anything in from now on, however I may, which is why I'm not labeling this version as final. Version number: Final I've gotten everything I can think of right here, which was basically a few minor changes from the last version. There's next to no chance of any more updates, so don't hold your breath. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Introduction ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ############################################################################### ##################################IMPORTANT!################################### ############################################################################### This guide will contain spoilers (descriptions of plot events) for the game Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. If you have not completed the game and do not want to find out the story in advance, don't read on. When you complete the Final Chapter of the game, you unlock the Creature Campaign and the Map mode for the completed file. After these are available, you can continue fighting your way through the Tower of Valni, the Lagdou Ruins, and the monsters that randomly appear on certain map areas. For completing certain areas, certain characters that were enemies or neutral units in the game will join your team and will be available to use the next time you enter an area with monsters in it. Unfortunately these characters can't be used in the game's multiplayer Link Arena and have no dialogue (no Support conversations or death quotes). However most of these come with useful items. I am writing this guide to describe the characters and how to recruit them. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Q.s) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Question: I've done what you've explained in the methods of recruiting these secret characters but I can't use them! What's going on? Answer: You either haven't finished the Final Chapter on the save you used to recruit these characters or you haven't entered another level of the Tower/Ruins or another random skirmish with monsters. Question: Why can't the secret characters be used in the Link Arena? Answer: I really have no idea. Except for one (Lyon), these characters are the exact same classes and have the same potential maximum stats the characters you use in the story and in Link Arena. Question: What's the reason for doing Creature Campaign and unlocking these hidden characters? Answer: One reason is for completion's sake. Another is for unlocking said characters. You can also buy stat-enhancement items to max out your units' stats and level them all up to 20, the maximum level. Question: What is a growth rate? Answer: Say a character has a growth rate of 50% for their Speed stat. This means that every time the character levels up, they have a 50% chance of gaining a point in Speed. Question: I got character X after clearing area Y, and your guide said X was supposed to be recruited after completing area Z! What gives? Question: This happens sometimes, I hear. I don't know why, but one theory is that when secret characters are unlocked is determined by how many monsters you kill in the Tower or Ruins. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. Secret Character Information ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here's where the main information you'll be looking for in the guide will be. I list the information on each secret character in a specific way, followed by my opinion on him or her. Here is the format I'll use. Name: The character's name. Appearance: A description of the unit's portrait. Description: The character's description, found by pressing R on the Profile screen for the character and moving the cursor over his or her name. Introduced in: What chapter the character made his or her first appearance in. Class: The character's class. All of them are promoted and therefore they can't change their class. Affinity: A character's affinity determines the stat boosts the character gets from Supporting with other characters. However, the secret characters can't Support. I added this in anyway, just for completion's sake. Level: The level the unit is when it joins you. Base Stats: The character's stats when they are recruited. HP: Hit Points. These decrease on each successful (read: that doesn't miss, do zero damage, or get blocked by Great Shield) attack you suffer and when this number reaches 0, the character dies/retreats from the battle and cannot ever be used again. Str: Physical strength. It is interchangeable with Mag, which is used for magic-using characters. Skill: The stat which controls the unit's chance of making a critical or hitting their target. Spd: Speed. Having at least four points higher speed than your opponent (calculated after weapon weight penalties) allows you to attack your opponent twice. It also factors in on a unit's dodging ability. Luck: Along with Speed, Luck determines a unit's chance of dodging an attack. Also, it determines a unit's chance of hitting, alongside Skill. Def: Physical defense which reduces the amount of damage you take from a physical attack. Res: Magic resistance. It works like defense, but with magical attacks. Move: How many spaces the unit can move in one turn. Con: Constitution or physical size. The number determines the highest weight you can use for weapons without losing speed on an attack. Maximum stats: The highest the character's stats can go, determined by class. HP: This is always maxed out at 60. Str: Skill: Spd: Luck: This is always maxed out at 30. Def: Res: Move: This is always maxed out at 15. Con: It either maxes out at 20 or 25 depending on the character's class. It only increases on promotions or with special items, and you won't need to max it, either. Growth rates: The chance, expressed in a percentage, that a certain stat will increase upon leveling up. Determined by the RNG, but I'm not going into it here so you'll have to check out another guide for that. Average stats at Level 20: What a character's stats will be on average at Level 20. Determined by growth rates and how many levels the character can gain. Held items: What the unit has when joining your force. A description accompanies each item. Weapon level: The character's proficiency with each weapon type it can wield. Ranges from E to S, E being the worst and S being the greatest. Besides Lyon, a character can only get an S-level in one weapon type. ............................................................................... .1 Caellach ............................................................................... Name: Caellach Appearance: Dark red, almost brown, slicked back hair, with an angry or smug grin across his face and wearing some sort of jacket, possibly a trench coat. Description: An ambitious general in Grado's army. He's better known as Tiger Eye. Introduced in: Chapter 3. Unlocked by: Clearing Floor 3 of the Tower. Class: Hero Affinity: Thunder Level: 12 Base Stats: HP: 47 Str: 19 Skill: 14 Spd: 13 Luck: 14 Def: 15 Res: 13 Move: 6 Con: 13 Maximum Stats: Str: 25 Skill: 30 Spd: 26 Def: 25 Res: 22 Growth Rates: HP: 85 Str: 50 Skill: 45 Spd: 45 Luck: 20 Def: 30 Res: 20 Average Stats at Level 20: HP: 54 Str: 23 Skill: 18 Spd: 17 Luck: 16 Def: 18 Res: 15 Held items: Silver Axe (Durability 20, A-rank Axe, 1 range, 12 weight, 15 might, 70 hit, 0 crit) Tomahawk (Durability 15, A-rank Axe, 1-2 range, 14 weight, 13 might, 65 hit, 0 crit) Hoplon Guard (A unit holding it cannot be hit by a Critical hit) Weapon level: A Swords, A Axes He's... all right, I guess. The second Hoplon Guard is nice to have, and his stats aren't too awful, but why use him when you can use Gerik or someone better? Unfortunately, this is the case with most of the secret characters. Max him out on stat boosters if you're a completionist, otherwise just give the secondary Hoplon Guard to someone who has horrible Luck. ............................................................................... .2 Orson ............................................................................... Name: Orson Appearance: Brown slicked back hair along with a green cape. Description: A cavalier or Renais. He's a devoted husband and a serene and quiet man. Introduced in: Chapter 5x Unlocked by: Clearing Floor 6 of the Tower. Class: Paladin Affinity: Darkness Level: 13 Base Stats: HP: 48 Str: 18 Skill: 15 Spd: 14 Luck: 6 Def: 14 Res: 11 Move: 8 Con: 12 Maximum Stats: Str: 25 Skill: 26 Spd: 24 Def: 25 Res: 25 Growth Rates: HP: 80 Str: 55 Skill: 45 Spd: 40 Luck: 25 Def: 45 Res: 30 Average Stats at Level 20: HP: 48 Str: 24 Skill: 21 Spd: 18 Luck: 8 Def: 21 Res: 12 Held items: Runesword(Durability 15, A-rank Sword, 1-2 range, 11 weight, 12 might, 65 hit, 0 crit, drains HP from attack target) Silver Lance (Durability 20, A-rank Lance, 1 range, 10 weight, 14 might, 75 hit, 0 crit) Red Gem (no use, can be sold for 2,500 gold) Weapon level: A Swords, A Lances Nice Defense, otherwise not very good at all. If you want a Paladin, use any of the other ones, unless you really, really, really like Orson for some reason. ............................................................................... .3 Riev ............................................................................... Name: Riev Appearance: Creepy. Receding hairline, slicked-back reddish-purple hair, sunken eyes and yellowish skin. Description: A heretic and traitor in Grado's army. He's also known as Blood Beryl. Introduced in: Chapter 3. Unlocked by: Clearing Floor 7 of the Tower. Class: Bishop Affinity: Darkness Level: 16 Base Stats: HP: 49 Mag: 14 Skill: 21 Spd: 19 Luck: 9 Def: 16 Res: 18 Move: 6 Con: 7 Maximum Stats: Mag: 25 Skill: 26 Spd: 24 Def: 22 Res: 30 Growth Rates: HP: 75 Mag: 45 Skill: 50 Spd: 40 Luck: 15 Def: 30 Res: 45 Average Stats at Level 20: HP: 52 Mag: 16 Skill: 23 Spd: 21 Luck: 10 Def: 17 Res: 20 Held items: Aura(Durability 20, A-rank Light tome, 1-2 range, 15 weight, 12 might, 85 hit, 15 crit) Purge (Durability 5, B-rank Light tome, 3-10 range, 20 weight, 10 might 75 hit, 5 crit) Blue Gem (no use, can be sold for 5,000 gold) Weapon level: S Light Magic, A Staves Riev can be pretty useful in Creature Campaign, as his fairly low Mag is easily cancelled out by the triple might given by Slayer against monsters (incredibly useful in CC as the only enemies are monsters, except for a very small amount of Thieves in the Ruins who will run for any treasure chest before you can get it). He can take hits better than your other potential Bishops as well, looking at that beastly Def. Just give him some lower weight tomes and he'll be pretty good. Easily the best secret character. ............................................................................... .4 Ismaire ............................................................................... Name: Ismaire Appearance: Long red hair, somber expression on face. Description: The queen of Jehanna. She is known as the Queen of the White Dunes. It's not included in the game's description, but she is Joshua's mother. Introduced in: The introduction cinematic-thing. First truly introduced in Eirika's Chapter 14, and not at all in Ephraim's route. Unlocked by: Clearing the Tower. Class: Swordmaster Affinity: Wind Level: 9 Base Stats: HP: 35 Str: 16 Skill: 20 Spd: 23 Luck: 12 Def: 8 Res: 15 Move: 6 Con: 7 Maximum Stats: Str: 22 Skill: 29 Spd: 30 Def: 22 Res: 25 Growth Rates: HP: 75 Str: 30 Skill: 60 Spd: 55 Luck: 30 Def: 20 Res: 25 Average Stats at Level 20: HP: 41 Str: 19 Skill: 27 Spd: 29 Luck: 15 Def: 10 Res: 18 Held items: Shamshir (Durability 20, D-rank Sword, 1 range, 5 weight, 8 might, 75 hit, 35 crit, can only be used by Eirika, Swordmasters, Assassins, and Myrmidons) Wind Sword (Durability 40, B-rank Sword, 1-2 range, 9 weight, 9 might, 70 hit, 0 crit, effective on flying units) Master Seal (promotes any unpromoted unit level 10 or up, excluding those of the Lord, Manakete, or 1st-level Journeyman, Recruit or Pupil classes) Weapon level: A Sword She'll probably be killed very easily by everything, and only has one redeeming factor, the Wind Sword. Like most of the secret characters, she's not worth it without stat-ups. ............................................................................... .5 Selena ............................................................................... Name: Selena Appearance: Shoulder-length light-blonde hair, earrings, and some sort of (military?) uniform/jacket. Description: One of Grado's generals. She's also known by the name Fluorspar. Introduced in: Chapter 2 Unlocked by: Clearing the Tower three times. Class: Mage Knight Affinity: Thunder Level: 11 Base Stats: HP: 38 Mag: 13 Skill: 13 Spd: 16 Luck: 10 Def: 11 Res: 17 Move: 7 Con: 6 Maximum Stats: Mag: 25 Skill: 24 Spd: 25 Def: 24 Res: 28 Growth Rates: HP: 85 Mag: 40 Skill: 55 Spd: 40 Luck: 25 Def: 20 Res: 30 Average Stats at Level 20: HP: 46 Mag: 16 Skill: 18 Spd: 20 Luck: 12 Def: 13 Res: 20 Held items: Bolting (B-rank Anima tome, 3-10 range, 20 weight, 12 might, 60 hit, 0 crit) Elfire (C-rank Anima tome, 1-2 range, 10 weight, 10 might, 85 hit, 0 crit) Recover (C-rank staff, range 1, fully heals one friendly unit in an adjacent space) Weapon level: A Anima Magic, B Staff Good HP for a magic-wielding unit, however the rest of her stats are awful. Use anyone over her, as she's pretty much the worse secret character. She's way too difficult to unlock as well. Pretty much the worst secret character, I'd say. Don't bother using her unless you really, really like her for some disturbing reason or absolutely need to have everyone at level 20 promoted with their stats maxed out. ............................................................................... .6 Hayden ............................................................................... Name: Hayden Appearance: Quite old, with slicked back gray hair. Description: The king of Frelia. He's a good friend to both Eirika and Ephraim. Introduced in: In-between Chapters 1 and 2, shown in the opening cinematic about the nations of Magvel as well. Unlocked by: Clearing Level 5 of the Ruins. Class: Ranger Affinity: Anima Level: 10 Base Stats: HP: 37 Str: 17 Skill: 14 Spd: 15 Luck: 17 Def: 12 Res: 12 Move: 7 Con: 10 Maximum Stats: Str: 25 Skill: 28 Spd: 30 Def: 24 Res: 23 Growth Rates: HP: 70 Str: 40 Skill: 45 Spd: 45 Luck: 40 Def: 25 Res: 25 Average Stats at Level 20: HP: 44 Str: 21 Skill: 19 Spd: 20 Luck: 21 Def: 15 Res: 15 Held items: Silver Sword (A-rank Sword, 20 durability, 1 range, 8 weight, 13 might, 80 hit, 0 crit) Silver Bow (A-rank Bow, 20 durability, 2 range, 6 weight, 13 might, 75 hit, 0 crit) White Gem (No use, sells for 10,000 Gold) Weapon level: A Swords, A Bows You'd really expect a Ranger to have better Speed than this guy. He's mediocre without any stat boosting items. Again, anyone else is quite a bit better than him. Use someone, anyone else for your bow user. ............................................................................... .7 Glen ............................................................................... Name: Glen Appearance: Cormag, just with red armor. Description: A general in Grado's army. He is better known as Sunstone. (It's not included in his bio, but he's Cormag's brother) Introduced in: Chapter 12, Eirika Route (not sure, please e-mail me and correct me if you know for sure) Unlocked by: Clearing Level 5 of the Ruins. Class: Wyvern Lord Affinity: Wind Level: 12 Base Stats: HP: 46 Str: 20 Skill: 17 Spd: 13 Luck: 7 Def: 18 Res: 5 Move: 8 Con: 12 Maximum Stats: Str: 27 Skill: 25 Spd: 23 Def: 28 Res: 22 Growth Rates: HP: 85 Str: 45 Skill: 50 Spd: 45 Luck: 20 Def: 35 Res: 40 Average Stats at Level 20: HP: 53 Str: 24 Skill: 21 Spd: 17 Luck: 9 Def: 21 Res: 8 Held items: Silver Lance (Durability 20, A-rank Lance, 1 range, 10 weight, 14 might, 75 hit, 0 crit) Sliver Sword (A-rank Sword, 20 durability, 1 range, 8 weight, 13 might, 80 hit, 0 crit) Blue Gem (no use, can be sold for 5,000 gold) Weapon level: A Swords, A Lances He's not as great as Cormag, but he isn't too bad for a secret character. He has fairly good stats all-around, except for his Speed, Luck and Resistance. His low starting Resistance is what holds him back, as his 40% growth in it isn't bad for a physical unit, much less a Wyvern Lord. Keep him away from magic and he should do fairly well. ............................................................................... .8 Valter ............................................................................... Name: Valter Appearance: Creepy. Pale skin, long blue hair and a sadistic expression on his face. Description: A general in Grado's army. This cruel man is also known as Moonstone. Introduced in: Prologue Unlocked by: Clearing Level 7 of the Ruins. Class: Wyvern Knight Affinity: Ice Level: 13 Base Stats: HP: 45 Str: 19 Skill: 17 Spd: 17 Luck: 3 Def: 13 Res: 12 Move: 8 Con: 11 Maximum Stats: Str: 25 Skill: 26 Spd: 28 Def: 24 Res: 22 Growth Rates: HP: 80 Str: 40 Skill: 55 Spd: 50 Luck: 15 Def: 20 Res: 20 Average Stats at Level 20: HP: 51 Str: 22 Skill: 21 Spd: 21 Luck: 4 Def: 14 Res: 13 Held items: Silver Lance (Durability 20, A-rank Lance, 1 range, 10 weight, 14 might, 75 hit, o crit) Spear (Durability 15, B-rank Lance, 1-2 range, 10 weight, 12 might, 70 hit, 5 crit) Fili Shield (Protects flying units from the extra damage given to them by arrows and wind magic) Weapon level: S Lances Okay, I more or less hate Wyvern Knights (well, the ones that promoted from Wyvern Rider, because they can become the far superior Wyvern Lord class), so I may be biased against Valter here. But honestly, he's pretty bad. His Luck is horrid (lowest average in the game, lower than even Knoll), and his defensive stats (Def and Res) are crap. Even his Speed and Skill, which are supposed to be his strong points, are bad compared to the rest of your units. His Spear can be sold for a nice 4,500 Gold, and his Fili Shield is useful, but Valter himself isn't as useful as his equipment. He starts out pretty pathetic for a Level 13 promoted unit, and doesn't get much better. Sure, he will get good with some stat-ups, but anyone will. ............................................................................... .9 Fado ............................................................................... Name: Fado Appearance: Blue hair and a blue goatee. He wears green armor. Description: The devoted king of Renais. His sole concern is for the people he leads. (It's not mentioned in his in-game bio, but he is the father of Ephraim and Eirika) Introduced in: Prologue, or the introductory cinema. Class: General Affinity: Fire Unlocked by: Clearing the Ruins once. Level: 11 Base Stats: HP: 46 Str: 20 Skill: 14 Spd: 12 Luck: 5 Def: 18 Res: 11 Move: 5 Con: 18 Maximum Stats: Str: 29 Skill: 27 Spd: 24 Def: 30 Res: 25 Growth Rates: HP: 85 Str: 55 Skill: 40 Spd: 30 Luck: 25 Def: 45 Res: 25 Average Stats at Level 20: HP: 54 Str: 25 Skill: 18 Spd: 15 Luck: 7 Def: 22 Res: 13 Held items: Silver Sword (A-rank Sword, 20 durability, 1 range, 8 weights, 13 might, 80 hit, 0 crit) Silver Lance (Durability 20, A-rank Lance, 1 range, 10 weight, 14 might, 75 hit, 0 crit) Silver Axe (Durability 20, A-rank Axe, 1 range, 12 weight, 15 might, 70 hit, 0 crit) Master Seal (promotes any unpromoted unit level 10 or up, excluding those of the Lord, Dancer, Manakete, or 1st-level Journeyman, Recruit or Pupil classes) Weapon level: A Swords, A Lances, A Axes Use another General. Really, his stats all-around should be far inferior to Gilliam or Amelia's, or, hell, anyone else's. The General's stat caps are beastly, but he's crap compared to your other characters unless you give him stat-boosters, at which point he can utilize the awesome General caps. Gilliam should be closer to his caps if he hasn't hit them already, so it'll cost less for you to max out Gilliam, so Fado's not needed unless you're a completionist. ............................................................................... .10 Lyon ............................................................................... Name: Lyon Appearance: Light purple hair. Description: The Prince of Grado. The Dark Stone is slowly corrupting his body. Introduced in: The flashback during A New Journey (the Class: Necromancer Affinity: Ice Unlocked by: Clearing the Ruins three times. Level: 14 Base Stats: HP: 44 Mag: 22 Skill: 13 Spd: 11 Luck: 4 Def: 17 Res: 19 Move: 6 Con: 7 Maximum Stats: Mag: 30 Skill: 25 Spd: 25 Def: 30 Res: 30 Growth Rates: HP: 85 Str: 50 Skill: 55 Spd: 55 Luck: 30 Def: 45 Res: 55 Average Stats at Level 20: HP: 49 Mag: 25 Skill: 16 Spd: 14 Luck: 6 Def: 20 Res: 22 Held items: Naglfar (S-Rank Dark Tome, unlimited durability, 1-2 range, 18 weight, 25 might, 95 hit, 0 crit) Physic (B-Rank Staff, range is equal to user's Magic divided by 2, 15 uses, heals an ally from a distance) Hammerne (B-Rank Staff, 3 durability, can be used to restore the durability of an ally's weapon if they're within one space of the Hammerne user) Weapon level: S Dark Magic, A Staff Lyon suffers from the curse of having horrible bases yet some of the greatest growths in the game. If you're going to use him, just max him out with stat boosters, at which point he'll kick ass. Don't forget to give him Body Rings until he has at least 18 Con, because of that damn heavy Naglfar tome. He can summon phantoms too, just like Knoll and Ewan if you make either of them the Summoner class, but his summons are superior to theirs, which is also noteworthy. ............................................................................... 6.
