WHAT THIS GAME FEATURES F-Zero: Maximum Velocity was a Launch Title for the Game Boy Advance in 2001. It features: 10 new pilots and machines 22 tracks 4 cups 2 multiplayer modes Lots of unlockable content and replay value. 1. INTRO, CONTROLS AND BASIC PLAY Intro: (This is exactly the same plot, but edited a bit by me) It's been 25 years since F-Zero X Regulation Advancements (GX) have dropped due to risking too many lives. The legendary names of Captain Falcon, Samurai Goroh, Silver Neelsen, and many others have just become dust in history. After a long, 5-year senate debate, the law has made F-Zero races legal once more. The only downside was that it wasn't F-Zero X rules where you could speed past 1,000km/hr- Speeds were set back to the swiftness of the early F-Zero days, around 500km/hr speeds. As soon as this law passed, fans raised an ear once more to spectate and even race in the old regulations. This meant a chance for new drivers to emerge- A new start in the world of F-Zero. Enter new pilots... And let the race on F-Zero: Maximum Velocity on the Game Boy Advance begin!! So, yeah, a pretty basic plot. Now onto whatchyall are waiting for. Controls: In terms of controls, go to settings and switch your controller type to Type 2. It's the easiest control scheme to use and it feels so smooth! The controls in this scheme are: D-Pad - Turn, push and hold down for longer Jump Distance, better Jump Speed, and no Landing Damage (Must be on a Jump Plate for the Down Button to really work) L and R - Strafe, Drift with corresponding direction A - Accelerate B - Booster L+R at the same time - Brake (YOU DO NOT NEED THIS!) But just a forewarning! Those who are used to playing F-Zero on the SNES, GP Legend or Climax on the GBA, this game handles VERY differently. Basic Play Blast Turn - Mash A button while turning, makes cornering much easier Rocket Start - Push the gas at 3, 2, or 1 in the countdown to get a perfect speed start to get you going- If you push too early, your engines will overheat and you'll slow down to a crawl and then start accelerating. Push at 3 - Silver Thunder and Jet Vermilion Push at 2 - Fire Ball, Sly Joker, and The Stingray Push at 1 - Hot Violet, J.B. Crystal, Wind Walker, Falcon Mk-II, and Fighting Comet For you who are new to F-Zero, this is what you need to know in order to play this game! The green spaces on the tracks are called Healing Strips. They will heal your machine if it's taken a lot of damage. You can tell at the colored bar at the top of the screen. For some forewarnings as to damage taking, you can lose health by: Bumping into walls, bumping into other racers, hitting Land Mines, and taking fall damage. If you lose all of your Power, your machine will break and you have to start the entire race over. There are a few ways of dying in this game... They are: Failing to survive a jump and losing all of your Power. Next, Boosters. Once you complete a lap, a green S will appear at the bottom of your screen. This is a Booster. To use it, press B. It will temporarily increase your speed. You can carry up to 3 at once. You can use these to go off-road without any slowdown to your machine. Since there are 5 laps per race, you will obtain 4 Boosters per race. Unlike F-Zero X, GP Legend, Climax, and GX, you don't lose health from the Booster, but they are limited, like I said. 1a. PROFFESIONAL TRICKS Strafing - I reccomend doing this on straightaways. Press L then R in a rhythmic pattern. Example: L, 1, R, 1, L, 1, R, 1,... It's not hard to master, and even though your spedometer may not say it, you actually go faster. Opposite Drift Turn - This is a trick that works great if your vehicle has bad handling! You turn one direction and press the OPPOSITE shoulder button! Not hard to do, but not easy either. 2. Pilots and Machines *Denotes unlockable Machines. There are 10 playable machines- 4 to start out with and 6 unlockable. Megan and Hot Violet Pictures: http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n08/afzj/machine/hv/index.html Age: Unknown Rumored Karate expert Machine Stats: Top Speed: 422 km/hr Boost Speed: 579 km/hr Boost Time: 6 seconds Body Strength: 69/100 Turn Performance: B Balance: C This one's reccomended more-so for beginners. Not bad, but not great either. Mickey Marcus and Fire Ball Pictures: http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n08/afzj/machine/fb/index.html Age: Estimated to be 35 A popular F-Zero Pilot, and racing is his biggest hobby Machine Stats: Top Speed: 440 km/hr Boost Speed: 565 km/hr Boost Time: 6.5 seconds Body Strength: 82/100 Turn Performance: C Balance: B I suggest you use this machine after getting used to J.B. Crystal. I used this machine to complete a vast majority of the game. Jane B. Christie and J.B. Crystal Pictures: http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n08/afzj/machine/jbc/index.html Age: Rumored to be 20 Has been known to lie about her age Machine Stats: Top Speed: 418 km/hr Boost Speed: 560 km/hr Boost Time: 9.5 seconds Body Strength: 63/100 Turn Performance: C Balance: A J.B. Crystal is PERFECT for beginners! It's quick to accelerate and handles pretty well, too! Nichi and Wind Walker Pictures: http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n08/afzj/machine/ch/index.html Age: 30 Nicknamed "The Sweep Man" Machine Stats: Top Speed: 428 km/hr Boost Speed: 585 km/hr Boost Time: 5.3 seconds Body Strength: 50/100 Turn Performance: A Balance: D Little trivia behind this machine: In Japan, this machine was called Crazy Horse. In the international versions, its name was changed to Wind Walker due to the pilot being a Native American and the machine's name possibly being viewed as racially insensitive. But this machine should NEVER be used unless you feel insanely ballsy and you're a major pro. *Lord Cyber and Sly Joker Pictures: http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n08/afzj/machine/dj/index.html Age: Around 40 Owns a castle rumored to be in Empyrean Colony and has thousands of servants Machine Stats: Top Speed: 436 km/hr Boost Speed: 591 km/hr Boost Time: 3 seconds Body Strength: 75/100 Turn Performance: C Balance: A Like Wind Walker, Sly Joker has some trivia as well. In Japan, it was called Dirty Joker. In the international releases, its name was changed to Sly Joker, possibly because Dirty Joker was too inappropriate for a game targeted to everyone, even kids. One of the BEST machines in the entire game, has great speeds and outstanding potential overall. *Alexander O'Neal and The Stingray Pictures: http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n08/afzj/machine/thesg/index.html Age: Around 30 An African-American Ex-Pro football player Machine Stats: Top Speed: 460 km/hr Boost Speed: 525 km/hr Boost Time: 12 seconds Body Strength: 85/100 Turn Performance: C Balance: C YES, IT'S LITERALLY CALLED 'THE STINGRAY'. That name is so, so stupid... But the machine itself is one of the best in the game! Boasting to be the second-highest top speed machine in the game, The Stingray is still a great machine to take on Master difficulty! *Kent Akechi and Falcon Mk-II Pictures: http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n08/afzj/machine/fmk2/index.html Age: Unknown Claims to be the son of Captain Falcon Machine Stats: Top Speed: 448 km/hr Boost Speed: 573 km/hr Boost Time: 7.2 seconds Body Strength: 66/100 Turn Performance: C Balance: B Again, one of the greatest machines in the game, and my favorite machine to use in this game due to its great speeds, acceleration, and the best handling in this game! It's SO good!! *Blitz Wagner and Silver Thunder Pictures: http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n08/afzj/machine/st/index.html Age: Unknown He is the protege and successor of Dr. Stewart, his machine was also designed by Dr. Stewart Machine Stats: Top Speed: 464 km/hr Boost Speed: 589 km/hr Boost Time: 3.7 seconds Body Strength: 90/100 Turn Performance: D Balance: B Not horrible, but not the best, either. The fastest machine top-speed wise, but this is a 'no' for beginners. This machine is meant for pros, and is the second-best machine in the game according to pros, but there are multiple good machines in this game, they all have to be unlocked, sadly. *Kumiko and Fighting Comet Pictures: http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n08/afzj/machine/fc/index.html Age: Unknown A young Japanese woman who loves the challenging circuits and is nicknamed "The Bullet" for how fast she pilots Machine Stats: Top Speed: 412 km/hr Boost Speed: 593 km/hr Boost Time: 9 seconds Body Strength: 56/100 Turn Performance: D Balance: B Another one of the BEST machines ever in the game. Its low body strength does make it very frail, but it is very good, capable of outspeeding Falcon Mk-II if you can perform correctly. *Professor Yazoo Jr. and Jet Vermilion Pictures: http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n08/afzj/vermil/index.html Age: Unknown He is the son of a famous racing machine enginner, his machine's Booster is the only one to break the 600km/hr barrier Machine Stats: Top Speed: 456 km/hr Boost Speed: 602 km/hr Boost Time: 4.2 seconds Body Strength: 100/100 Turn Performance: E Balance: B Handles worse than Silver Thunder, but ironically handles really well on ice. This machine hold the world record for every best lap time in this game. Takes a lot of practice to master, and the unlock conditions are extreme. 2a. WHAT MACHINE FOR GRAND PRIX? Your best bets are Sly Joker, Falcon Mk-II, The Stingray, and Fighting Comet. Add Silver Thunder and Jet Vermilion if you're pro with them. For those who haven't unlocked any machines, J.B. Crystal and Fire Ball are your way to go. 3. UNLOCK CRITERIA (SPOILERS AHEAD, GO TO 4 IF YOU DON'T WANT TO SEE) Unlocking Machines Criterias: Beat Pawn, Knight, and Bishop on Standard Beat Pawn, Knight, and Bishop on Expert Beat Queen Cup on Expert Beat any cup on Master Beat all cups on Master ^No matter what you do first, the machines will be unlocked in the following order^ Sly Joker The Stingray Silver Thunder Falcon Mk-II Fighting Comet Unlocking the Jet Vermilion (DUN DUN DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN) Oh boy. I HATE trying to unlock this thing. Unlock conditions are WAAAAAAAAY too extreme. To unlock it, either: -Clear all cups on Master with all 9 other vehicles -Or clear the Championship Track 255 Times Or the easy way so that you don't stress about the GP or take weeks to unlock it... USING THE PASSWORD! On the Japanese website, there was a thing you could use to generate a password based on the name of your Save File. This no longer works, but... F-Zero Central has a password generator of their own that you can use. http://fzerocentral.org/viewtopic.php?t=176 I can't get it to work, so I'd ask an admin to aid you with this task. If you want to try it, put in your file name as shown in all caps. (Mine would be CODY/PY for example). Once you get the password, check out how to get to the password screen below. Password Screen To access this, go to Grand Prix and into the Machine Selection screen. Then press L, R, Select, R, L, Start. This screen really only has one purpose- Unlocking the Jet Vermilion. Unlocking the Queen Cup All you have to do is beat Pawn, Knight, and Bishop on Expert. Master Difficulty Beat any cup on Expert (note that you only unlock Master for that cup). Championship Clear a bunch of Grand Prixs, and it will eventually appear underneath Multi-Pak Link in the Mode Select. 4. TRACKLIST Difficulty ranking is in *s. *=Easy *****= HARD. Kay? Here are the tracks. There are 22 tracks in this game, but 21 of them are listed in this section. The 22nd track is for Single-Pak mode. Pawn Cup Bianca City - Stretch Circuit * Stark Farm - First Circuit ** Empyrean Colony - Dash Circuit * Stark Farm - Second Circuit ** Cloud Carpet - Long Jump Circuit ** Knight Cup Tenth Zone East - Snake Circuit ** Beacon Port - Crossroad Circuit *** Synobazz - Explosive Circuit **** Ancient Mesa - Split Circuit * Stark Farm - Third Circuit ** Bishop Cup Bianca City - Tightrope Circuit ** Ancient Mesa - Skating Circuit **** Crater Land - Skid Zone Circuit ** Cloud Carpet - Icarus Circuit *** Bianca City - Ultimate Circuit *** Queen Cup Crater Land - Loop Circuit ** Tenth Zone East - Plummet Circuit ** Empyrean Colony - Twist Circuit **** Fire Field - Land Mine Circuit ***** (HARDEST TRACK IN THE GAME) Fire Field - Warrior Circuit *** Championship Synobazz - Championship Circuit *** 5. CHAMPIONSHIP As hard as Synobazz in Knight Cup was, the Championship is much easier. To beat the Championship, you have to beat a staff ghost with a time of 1'57 done by Hot Violet, and pretty well-done, too. This track isn't too hard to get used to, believe me. Not too easy, but not too hard, either. This track is a test for you- A test for you to demonstrate what you've learned in the game! If you lose, maybe go unlock some more vehicles and then try again! Good luck to you in this track!! 6. LOCAL PLAY Local Play is a very fun activity if you're with a friend on the bus and you both are bored. Whip out some F-Zero: MV and have an epic, competetive race with up to 3 other people! It's a great time-killer and allows for a bit of insanity. 6a. MULTI-PAK PLAY This is easily the most fun of your options. Both of you get to use your machines that you've unlocked and play on every track in the game of your choice! I mean, head-to-head at your best bet! Great opportunity! 6b. SINGLE-PAK PLAY Not as fun as Multi-Pak, but can be fun sometimes... Everyone is automatically assigned a colored Standard Machine and you race on one track, and you get no music in this mode... But you unlock the 22nd track in the game if you do it. This track is called Silence - Open C Circuit. It's an okay track, I just wish it were more fun... 7. CREDITS AND WHAT I THINK OF THE GAME This FAQ was written by PurpleYoshi-GFQ. If you have any other questions, feel free to contact me here at GameFaqs. F-Zero: Maximum Velocity and the F-Zero Franchise is copyrighted by Nintendo. I have nothing to do and do not own the F-Zero Franchise whatsoever. And my final thoughts on the game: F-Zero Maximum Velocity has to be #2 on my Top 5 F-Zero Games. MV was a really fun, difficult ride all the way. I highly reccomend that you get this game- Wii U VC, Emulator, Nintendo DS, or even go back to the GBA! Just play it is all I'm saying! I rate Maximum Velocity an 8/10! For a GBA Launch Title, Nintendo did a really good job!
